1. Yes we won’t get all the answers about Scarlet’s plans, but the community as a whole commanded Braham’s dialogue: he/we didn’t want to hear about why she did it, we wanted her gone. I personally didn’t hate her, but you’ve seen the outpouring of hate. It’s what we deserved for wanting her gone and moving on.
2. You mean that which dragon was awoken would not have mattered based on prior hints? I think not. Primordus contacting her would have been a big difference from his MO from what we know before. It’d be a bigger shift than say some krait working with “lesser races” to get religious artifacts. It’s not impossible but Mordremoth makes more sense. He’s not awake yet, he’s plant-affiliated. Plus being out WEST in the cutscene, past Rata Sum and Thaumanova… it fits well.

3. I agree, early on the dialogue was kitten poor and small. But it’s improved substantially so far. I trust Anet to shape up really well for Season 2.
On the topic of it taking time for the story to lead to greater scope and something DRAGON SIZED, well… that’s how stuff should go. We shouldn’t have constant action. Things of this scheme took and do take huge planning efforts. Scarlet was going on schedule I’d say. (That’s why she was never kittened at what we did, anyway.)

If you think the EDs are the only threat worth mentioning, then you’re disgracing yourself as a fan of the lore. Even forgetting the lore, in the Tyrian planet you have more to worry about than forces of nature out on the periphery of civilization. Tyrians adapted to the remaining dragons and only Jormag is severely affecting anyone imo (the Kodan), and perhaps Kralk with the Brand invading Charr lands from time to time (we don’t know how that’s going tbh).

You’re on the cusp of how to make an ED humanizable, it’s right here! Their effects on Tyrians. Such as a champion! Scarlet was extremely interesting (not a Mary Sue really) and she showed how dragons can cause tragedies. Scarlet is a tragic figure.

And really, do you NEED villains to be relatable? That’s sort of cliche.. Not everyone has a good reason for what they do or whatever. Sometimes hurricanes happen and there can be human interest stories within them but the hurricane doesn’t care. That’s an Elder Dragon.

It’s a decent explanation. I just wish she used a disguise in the official story or something to mask that she’s a woman. The FL is pretty misogynist.

Well I have to say as a former HoD player since week 2 of release I have to tell you of how disapionted I am with the perseverance of of YOUR server. That’s right Your server. Me and my guild transfered off last night because the lack of heart HoD showed soon as TA left the game/server.

I remember a leader ot TA posting on these same boards saying something along the lines of “if the free transfers are not stopped we will be leaving because this will kill wvw”
I will tell you this, the free transfers are whats saving this game. If we couldn’t take our guild off HoD we might have stopped logging on.

Thank you Anet for letting us get off HoD and Join a classy server like JQ where true champions play!

I don’t understand why people have an obsession with seeing progression for NPCs first hand. If it’s a new character of course she developed on her own. And if she’s a sylvari perhaps she didn’t change much since being born into Tyria.

A fall from grace is an overdone trope. A Harley Quinn is much less common.

I’d like to know if ANYONE came away feeling they understood Scarlet’s invasions from an in-setting perspective? Seriously, is there a single goal on any map they appear on that they take action to seize? No, of course not. They’re like deer, or dolyaks, just another form of natural resource.

Not sure if this is the right place to talk about it but I would say I definitely understand the Invasions from an out-of-universe perspective, but my in-game character would be a lot less knowledgable. That said, they’d be able to figure out that the MA was formed by Scarlet’s machinations as well as the Aetherblades and somehow the Steamcreatures fit in too.

I would like to respond to what Bobby Stein just posted. I have followed his name a lot and I know he’s been responsible for writing in GW2 after a long time doing writing things in GW1 too. He’s been involved with Tyria for a while and I think as a fan/observer of this now very transparent dialogue he has grown as a writer, a developer and as a community collaborator. It sounds like a big PR dribble quote I’m making but I want him to know that I think he is adding value to his professional skills. People went out of their way to talk about why they hate Trahearne (mostly inappropriately or without merit) and he took it in stride in the initial post-release feedback topics. I think the story has started to increase in nuance and general quality since August 2012. He’s part of that change.

He sounds honest in these posts and gets me to feel, at least this one fan, that the team can accept they didn’t put forth an excellent writing component to their product at onset but they have the option to do more or to do better. I think his plan for Scarlet’s characterization and what is apparently planned is just what we needed to hear. At least for me. I think Scarlet is similar to “Mary Sue” type but she probably isn’t one. I defend her against hordes of internet opinions on Reddit from time to time. If she has more to her than being crazy than I might just be right in my hunch. I hope for the sake of lore and story progression that she shows some cool aspects of Eternal Alchemy or other things that make Tyria the way it is. She can expose cool new and old aspects of lore to us! Anyway, thank you Bobby and to the team for having this discussion. Keep adding that sexy nuance to your set pieces.

Safe to say people like Palador are in the minority. Most people are just whining about being bad and probably because zerking won’t be as effective.

Some of us (yes, including myself) simply and strongly dislike being at odds with people. Even in a video game.

Give me an NPC boss that’s as tough as a good PvP player, and adaptive, and I’ll give it a shot. There’s a solid chance I may even enjoy taking it on in a fair fight, even if I lose.

Give me a player to fight in PvP, even an unskilled one that I can easily beat, and I’ll feel bad. Uncomfortable. I’ll worry that they were having a bad day, and instead of getting to blow off a bit of steam, I just added that final straw that takes them from unhappy to miserable, or something similar. It may not be rational, but it’s there.

With all that said, I’m thrilled they’re putting the LS into PvP areas. I hope it’s such an unmitigated disaster that they finally realize that the game modes need to be kept separate. No more forcing players into other parts of the game against their wishes.

In other words:
Go. Hunt. Kill Skuls… err noobs.

I think the problems highlighted with this interview are more problematic for lore than Scarlet is. Angel responded but evidently could use a more thorough screening process I think.
