The OP sounds like someone who just wants the rewards from the high level fractals without putting in the effort to get the 150 ar so they can do their daily T4.

AR used to be a decent gate to make sure people got familiar with the mechanics, but these days is too easy getting ascended gear and far too easy to get 150ar. So now you have people doing t4 fracs who really don’t know the fractals when you pug them.

I doubt we will see any other kind of system put in place as the development time required could be spent on more important things.

If anet actually removed AR requirements from fractals it would turn T4 fractals into pure frustration for pug groups and there would be a lot of complaints about getting kicked and the whole toxic/elitist type stuff would become more pronounced.

Swamp - Not worth the aggravation

You could have avoided the whole situation.

Situational Awareness is the ability to identify, process, and comprehend the critical elements of information about what is happening to the team with regards to the mission. More simply, it’s knowing what is going on around you.

Knowing that the oakheart has a KD and choosing to stay and continue to res was your first mistake, not identifying that Bloom was within leaping distance to the downed player was your second, not knowing who the oakheart and bloom had aggro on was your third. If you had the aggro, you should have kited the mobs away from the downed person and not gone for the res. If someone else had aggro, then you should have told them to get away from the vicinity while you rubbed the down person.
Shouldn’t have to mention all this to someone who “pugged their way to 100 and got their legendary fractal backpiece all on their own”.

Or they could add an agony pulse to the fractal level selector. Once you confirm the selection it pulses a wave of agony. Ar checking shouldnt be optional , but it also shouldnt be a chore like it is now to try get everyone to gather on the ar check area in the lobby. If it was added to the selector then everyone would be checked at the same time, so no one would be singled out.

Necro not optimal for fractals

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Muffin Nook.5923

Muffin Nook.5923

And yet, I keep seeing parties forming in the lfg only looking for “condi reaper”. At times I join these

I enjoy necromancer as well, but I think there’s a lot of “lord of darkness bias” going on here and would really like it to stop so I can actually get things done

Simple solution: stop joining the groups looking for necros and form your own.
Most people are doing the reaper thing because they get sick and tired of the bearbows, warriors camping longbow or rifle, mesmers using gs, pistol/pistol thieves etc. When you join a pug group there is always at least one person who runs some special snowflake build that does absolutely nothing for the party. By limiting it to reaper only groups even if 2 or so people have mediocre builds/gear the remaining necro can complete the fractal(s) without it being a hard carry situation.

Since when is condi warrior with a longbow, LB ranger, P/P theif, or mesmer GS a ‘special snowflake’ build? P/P does crap loads of damage, but that’s all it does. It’s has no utility, which is why no one uses it.

Calling everything that isn’t listed at the top of the meta battle chart a snowflake build shows how disconnected you actually are. And condi reaper is the DEFINITION of not doing anything for the party. So that point can be thrown out.

Most people are doing the reaper thing because it’s easy. It has nothing to do with doing something ‘for the party’. And most of the new condi reapers can barely play the build right anyway, which means they aren’t as effective as they could be, because they lack the support of the classes that those builds were designed to be supported by.

I listed specific builds that pop up regularly in pugs and then stated that in the avg pug group you will get some special snowflake build. (such as guardian in full nomads running monk runes camping mace/shield) The Snowflakes vary and are usually so unremarkable I dont bother to remember them hence the label.

And as to the “for the party” comment:
Thats the main reason most of the pugs are asking for all necro. To be self sufficient, since you can’t trust that random chrono, or PS war to be running the right utilities or do their skill rotations. Since without the right utilities, proper skill rotations and traits there really is no reason for having these professions in your group anyway.
Most people when they want to run efficiently will hook up with friends or guildies and run a decent comp that they can trust to do their jobs.

The downed state - Hurting the game?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Muffin Nook.5923

Muffin Nook.5923

No, it’s a realisation that all these things, combined (not just zerker gear), are encouraging players to play in a boring, formulaic way, which ruins what could be a really good game.

I’ve said this before, but my guild chat is full of “we’re so good at cheesing” comments.

A well designed game, in this way, simply doesn’t allow cheesing (or as little as is humanly possible).

…and it sure as heck doesn’t actively encourage it.

Are you new to MMO?
There have been no significant changes to dungeons since release. The content is extremely repetitive, players want to get through it as efficiently as possible. Same thing can be said for any open world content too.
Funny thing is same attitude creeps into any online game I have ever played going as far back as Diku MuDs.
Diku Muds – you wanted to be a C/M/T for the backstab, sanc and firepower.
EQ – so many “cheese” professions to choose from. Bard, Druid, Necro, Shaman.
UO – didn’t matter as long as you maxxed alchemy
Lineage II – the list is too long to bother.
Guildwars – Ritualist, Imbagon, Mesmer, Assassin.

In every single online game eventually knowledge of the mathematical nature of character statistics becomes readily available and people determine the best party composition based on available gear, skills and professions. Through practice and experience they will find the optimum ways to finish content as efficiently as possible to access the end rewards faster.

That all being said, If anet were to add a “hardmode” where there wasn’t a downed state in dungeons, gave an endurance debuff for less dodging, and bumped up the rewards I would be all for it. Something like that would make us all have to rethink group composition, gear choices, and would probably make skipping extremely difficult in certain dungeons. It would certainly add something to the dungeons after 3 years of the same thing day after day.

Dungeons aren’t fun at this stage of the game. The people I do dungeons with are fun though. We treat each dungeon path end boss is someone who owes us money. The faster we get to it the faster we collect what is owed.
Once our daily dungeon tour is over then we can go do whatever we do for fun.
If you have the stomach for taking the time to kill whatever is in your way, more power to you. But I doubt you are doing 15-17 paths in 2-4 hours making bank.

After reading the OP, I have to ask were you here from bwe or the launch of the game?
You probably dont remember but way back before they changed it dead people could wp while the rest of the party were still engaged in battle. It was changed so people couldn’t just zerg their way through dungeons keeping the boss in combat so he didnt regen or reset.
Removing the down state from pve at this point would only do one thing:
Create an even more specific rift in the LFG tool or make it useless altogether. People would only want to party with people they know that can carry their own weight without becoming a useless corpse. It would make those who tolerate the odd carry in their party change and be less forgiving, leading to new less experienced players being kicked. New players would get frustrated quicker and possibly give up playing altogether.
I do not see the downed state being removed or re-worked anytime in the future.

Regarding the glassy spec thing:
Go into a dungeon with people using glass builds that basically copy and pasted them from metabattle. See how long they last.
The people who use glass builds that have taken the time to learn their profession and use effective team configurations will generally melt any mobs before there is any real danger to the group.
What your lengthy posts have been about is not so much a game mechanic as it is about a learn to play issue. Basically you are saying that 3 years into the game you don’t have any challenging content available to you.
I might suggest that you try amuse yourself with 2-3 manning the usual dungeons you 5 man. When that becomes too easy there is always soloing content.

Not sure how to get started again?

Thunder before they changed the new player experience, you would “feel” your character getting stronger and more advanced as you unlocked your traits and expanded your abilities. But alas they nerfed it into oblivion but have stated they are changing it yet again in the future. (whatever that actually means)
Regardless of gear a lot of how your character plays depends greater on how you distribute your traits. You may find that the feeling you are looking for will come once you have unlocked access to all your traits.

I wish more people would watch their fractal videos then maybe I wouldn’t get so many yolo phiw people when i do pug.

Higher level fractals ranged>meele ?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Muffin Nook.5923

Muffin Nook.5923

It gets really annoying to melee in pug groups. I dont do anything but melee except if im on ele and even then i go into melee range to stack might and to kite the boss. But yeah in unorganized groups where everyone is ranging it can be risky to melee because the boss can change aggro pretty quickly so you have to pay attention. Also on bosses like archdiviner and shaman that have projectiles the stupid guards in pugs will put reflects where it benefits them and not the party….. so you will have little to no support in melee range

At the same time melee is way more fun!

Thats solely a l2p issue, and can be said for any profession in a pug group. I find most pug players can’t be bothered to optimize their traits and utilities based on the upcoming fight. They would rather be lazy and put on sub optimal gear, traits and utilize utilities that benefit themselves over others. Forget about switching food/potions for specific encounters. Thats the “joy” of pugging.

Fear climate in dungeons nowadays

Muffin Nook.5923

Know why you have a hard time joining a group as a ranger or a necro?
You have to be able to play those professions really well to make up for their shortcomings while using very specific builds to make them even feasible in dungeons.
And yet every pug necro I see is usually using staff and scepter and using fear to scatter all the mobs. The rangers are usually camping longbow and clicking skill 4 off cooldown while not using frost spirit or spotter. There are exceptions where the necro is running dagger/dagger and the ranger is using frost spirit, spotter and actually using melee weapons. Too many pug mesmers run around with GS and use skill 5 at the dumbest times such as just as you engage a boss instead of letting icebow kitten first.
There are people that know how to run rangers, necro and mesmers effectively. But far too often in the pug lottery you will come up snake eyes if you let one of those professions join without knowing the person.
The same can be said for any profession really, its just all the other ones are more forgiving. A bad Engi will still give vulnerability stacks, a bad guardian still has aegis, bad ele has the conjures, etc.
You talk about people from other games willing to help others and what not. There are guilds dedicated to that stuff here in GW2. When I dungeon run I am there to make money as efficiently as possible. I am not there to teach Joe Bob how to play his profession or explain why he needs certain utilities and when to use them. From time to time I do help people when they have a lfg asking for someone who knows what to do. What you are describing in your posts isnt community: its entitlement. You expect everyone to help at the drop of a hat or to accept sub optimal players with sub optimal builds when people are trying to play the meta. They can learn like everyone else has by watching youtube, researching using google and asking more knowledgeable players from the various teaching guilds. (such as We Teach How We Want [Noob])

When a player clicks on the join button in the lfg tool a confirmation window with the full lfg description pops up and asks “Are you sure you want to join this group?”

Whirling in you symbol or wall of reflection will condi cleanse anyone struck by the bolts 3. Running offhand focus gives you ray of judgment another condi cleanse 4. And then take purging flames for aoe condi cleanse or use as a blast field for might 5.
You still do respectable damage with the build as well as bringing other useful utilities to the group.

Dungeons are not fun at this stage of the game. They are a source of income, and like any other method of acquiring income you want to be the most efficient you can be.
Thats why people have shorter tempers and the itch to kick.
Far too many people just see a path they want advertised and join without reading any of the LFG message. They deserve to be kicked.
Those who say well I have zerk gear and trinkets and I was still kicked: Were you attacking from ranged? were you using sub par traits/utilities. Or were you simply one of those “know it alls” chiming in every 30 seconds. Another situation where you deserve to be kicked.
Personally I avoid lfg posted that include the term “speed run”. In my mind that is for the guys in [Yet] (your fractal speed runs are inspiring), or [DnT] (even their casual runs are insanely fast).
While I disagree with people asking for AP in their LFG posts, I can understand they are just trying to get people with at least some experience.

I truly do not understand why it is so hard for people to hop on google or youtube and find out what is required for them to be an effective part of a quick or efficient dungeon run.
To be honest though I think 80% of the people complaining about zerk only or “speed runners” got mad that they were called out or kicked for being a carry.

There are countless guides on what will help you become effective in your chosen profession in any dungeon path or fractal, take the time to research it.

If you hate looking stuff up or can’t be bothered, try looking up and joining We Teach How We Want [Noob] they have a great mentoring system so you learn by doing.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/dungeons/Dungeon-Mentors-Noob/first

The darkside you referred to in the title is probably created by all the tryhards who look up the builds for the “meta” but never bother finding out how to use them properly or effectively and take dirtnaps regardless of how experienced the rest of the group actually is. To me berserker gear is sort of like spandex… just cause you can wear zerk doesn’t mean you should :P

Just stay the hell out of my meta only groups.
For me dungeons are all about efficiency. I have been in all the dungeons and on all the paths, so at this point if I can shave 20 seconds off a run that’s exciting.
I still pug and for the most part it isn’t too bad in certain dungeons.
But you still run into people who have the mindset of the OP. When I encounter these types of people, I apologize to everyone in the group and just leave since pugs are always forming. I do not force the way I play on others… is it wrong to expect the same in return?

Posted by: Muffin Nook.5923

Muffin Nook.5923

Disagree on both counts:

1. Should be easy enough for any group to quickly grab a member to fill the spot made by the person leaving.

2. This would just lead to people abusing the system to harass others.

I’m sorry there are times when you just have to cut your losses whether its 1 minute or 10 minutes into a run.

There is no solution to this at this time. A lot of it could be cured by giving us more control over the forming of the group with checkboxes that limit level, armor type (even limiting it to armor type generalization such as power, or vitality , etc) , and professions. If a person trying to join the group doesn’t fit the requirements they can’t join. Another bonus to this would be not having to deal with swappers since they wouldn’t meet the level requirement.

Plus, “play how you want” works both ways. If a person wants an efficient dungeon run and gets stuck with a subpar group they should be allowed to leave and find something they find more enjoyable.

Maybe no one has ever told them what they are trading for roughly 700 more armor and 12k more hps before kicking them from a group…

they lose roughly 40% chance to crit just from gear choice, even more when you add in trait and utility skill decisions

they lose around 85% critical damage (this is where it impacts groups the most)

avg berserker geared warrior with cheap consumables has approximately 250% critical damage. ( 85% from gear/traits + 15% banner of Discipline + 150% base )

person choosing to wear PTV gear and trinkets with soldier runes gets 150% critical damage. (150% base)
But its a moot point since the base chance to crit is so kitten low it hardly will ever happen. ( 34% chance to crit if they do manage to put at least 10 points into Arms and use an accuracy sigil and fury otherwise its zero)

didn’t even bother mentioning weapon choices and their effects

Reviving Guild Wars 2 if it stops thriving

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Muffin Nook.5923

Muffin Nook.5923

GW2 took 90% of the GW1 population when it was released due to it being a sequel. No one wants to go back to a game killed by its sequel. Besides, most people who have been playing GW1 have been playing it for years. GW2 is something a little newer. Adding something like this to GW2 would be completely different seeing how combat is not very similar in the two games.

I’m not suggesting to add this any time in the near future. I’m talking about adding this when the game needs a revamp that will really throw things in for a loop and bring people back into the game to try new things. This wouldn’t even require the developers to actually develop much of anything – the skills are already there – they would just need to change how things work.

I’m throwing the idea out there in case something needs to drastically change later down the road so that there is a new way for players to enjoy themselves in a game that was previously stale and out of options. GW2 is not that game right now, especially with the big feature patch around the corner. This is an idea for when GW2 needs this to re-spark the interest of its playerbase.

This isn’t really aimed at bringing new players in. It’s more so aimed at keeping the current playerbase interested and potentially bringing back players who were waiting for some big changes to hit GW2 to play again.

Lastly, I think your point about the learning curve is valid, but I’m an average player, and I had little trouble with getting into GW1. GW2 is very simple already. Adding something like this won’t make it much more difficult for new players. It will however keep them entertained longer.

If you really wanted to, you could save the new players from the higher learning curve by reserving dual class builds for level 80. To be honest, I don’t think it would really be necessary as PVE players would probably have a blast with it.

If it was really necessary, the game could go as far as to split into modes of the old and the new for things like PvP (e.g. servers/arenas where people are allowed to run dual classes, and servers/arenas that run on the single-class system). That way, people who liked the single-class system would still have the option to play that way, while others could play with a dual-class system.

1. People still play GW1, even i still log back in from time to time to run FoW/UW for fun.

2. When it gets to the point the game needs a revamp… why wouldn’t they just introduce new weapons for the professions and at the same time add/modify profession traits to work with new weapons. Trying to emulate GW1 skills and how they work in GW2 would be a nightmare from a programming perspective.

3. People would come back for new explorable zones, or new dungeon content plain and simple. There is a lot of the map that isn’t available to us (yet). The biggest thing I hear from people about GW2 is lack of “endgame” content. Of the 26 available zones to explore only 4 are level 70+. Of the 8 dungeons, the only one that gives any kind of challenge to endgame geared players is Arah.

So respectfully, rather than mess with a skill system that works for the type of game it is. All they need to do is add content for people to explore and experience at the level 80 range. Give us something to do, don’t change the way we do it.

And yet the same thing would happen that happened in gw1 with that skill system. Certain Bars would become the meta, and the opposite side of the coin: bad builds would become worse as people would be bringing completely useless skillsets. Not to mention the higher learning curve that would be required for new players.
Besides if people wanted the skill flexibility of GW1…why would they not just go back and play GW1.

Discounted character slots: So people can rush a couple toons to 80 before trait system changes on the 15th, discount it by 20% and more people will be inclined to snap a few up. Some will grab 1 or 2 just for extra storage space
Would think we would see new explorable zones well before we see a new playable race.

I find the ones who QQ the most about berserker gear and stacking/skipping are the ones who can’t survive wearing the gear and playing meta builds. They fail during the skips, and don’t know how to properly mitigate damage (blocks, evades, movement).
Purple has the best solution: they can play however they want to, but don’t expect to play with me and impact my enjoyment.

[NA] Looking for Dungeon Guild

Hi there,
Looking for a guild that does a daily rotation on dungeons/fractals. Preferably one that uses meta.
I have 11 toons all geared in zerk armor and trinkets.
I am not looking for something extremely hardcore, I would prefer being able to login and hook up with others who are doing dungeons and not have to abide by a schedule.
I am familiar with the usual runs:
AC p1 p2 p3 – usually run ele or war
CM p1 p2 p3 – usually run thief or guard
TA For, Up – usually run war or guard
SE p1 p3 – usually run war or guard
CoE p1 p2 p3 – usually war, guard or mes
HotW p1 p2 p3 – usually war, guard or mes
For fractals guard has 45 ar and mes has 30
I am on SoR but as long as guild is NA based its fine by me. I dont have a problem doing runs with people who are just learning as long as they are not bringing useless builds and professions into dungeons. ( may as well keep pugging)
