Authenticator problem with website

Anyone know any news? I just ran into this issue and reported it in the authenticator sticky a few days ago, but everything seems to be silent: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/account/Authenticator-Questions-Concerns-merged/2838590

The forum search does not seem to work at all either currently, so maybe the whole forum is not stable at the moment. I only found this topic by browsing manually.

I just tried the mobile authenticator for the first time (Android) and encountered the following, what appears to be a bug:

After linking the account to the authenticator, I could not log into the forums anymore. When trying to log in with username, password, and code, it would always say that my user or password is wrong. Log-in to the actual game with the game client worked fine.

I then unlinked the authenticator again. Is this a known issue?

I find it ugly, and it just confuses me that the patch notes said the change would only affect the lesser air elemental, but the big one was changed as well. Hopefully it is a bug and will get fixed.

Daily Puzzle Jumper not counted

I just completed the same puzzle I did 2 days ago for the daily. I got some stuff from the splendid chest, but the daily did not update. This puzzle should have completed my daily achievements, but it is still 4/5.

After defeating Claw of Jormag the other day, I moved up and down just a few meters near the treasure chest. While moving, nearly all of at least 30 other players, who were standing around relatively still, disappeared, and only started reappearing again when I stopped moving. I have not noticed it as bad as in this situation before.

This issue is known since beta and was communicated plentiful by players. Back then, balance was the reason for the cap on stacks, according to the devs. Unlimited stacks would be overpowered.

Now, when checking on the issue by asking Colin, server performance seems to be the reason all of a sudden. And it seems we are even further from any solution. Did I miss a lot of stuff in between, what’s going on? :o

I think heroes were meant to make it easier for players to complete content meant for groups, if they could not find anyone else to play with.

Adding heroes would feel like making every class a pet class, and I don’t enjoy those as much as the other classes. So I would rather have them improve the guesting system and remove the region restriction, so we can always swap to a busy timezone when needed, and more importantly release the much improved the LFG tool.

Now LFM means said person is looking to build a group; that’s the person you want to whisper asking if they have room or for an invite.

Maybe is helps to specifically mention that LFM stands for “looking for more” or “looking for members”. That’s at least how I learned it. Groups or single players willing to lead are looking for more, and players wanting to join a group are looking for group.

Just join onto the person LFG or LFM. Usually the person LFG already has several others on him.

To clarify the convention described by the OP, with my own words: You should join the player who is LFM, but invite the player who is LFG.

A change from daily to weekly would be very good. Why should a player who can log-in only every other day for 3 hours, not be able to get the same amount of laurels than a player who can log-in every day for 90 minutes? Both play the same amount of time and log-in regularly. I does not make any sense.

If I’m not wrong, the vertical FOV was activated by default some patches ago… Am I right?

Yes. The effect “-testVerticalFov” had before, is now built into the game as default. So adding this command line flag does not have any effect anymore. In order to restore the old FoV like it was before the change, use “-useOldFov”. Anyone can verify this easily via screenshots, or check the old patch notes in the news and announcements forum (the search box works well).

Phoenix cancels dodges

I just noticed that this always happens when my phoenix (scepter skill 3) returns to me when I dodge roll. When the phoenix touches me and grants me vigor my dodge just stops.

Also I noticed that when I cast churning earth (dagger skills 5) and use arcane wave while casting it, my churning earth just stops.

This seems like pretty clear and easy to understand and reproducible bugs. If you post them in the game bug forum and also /bug them in game, they should reach the QA properly, and we all will benefit from the fix.

Loot should be much more fun in this game in general. Especially chests from events, dragons, dungeons and jumping puzzles, should provide more shiny things than just salvage/vendor trash.
Why not buff them significantly, but only let you loot a chest per dragon/event/jp/etc. once a day? But of course reset them at a specific set time of the day and not just every 24 hours.

I always get completely naked and lay out all items on the ground, including those from my bags. Then I apply the spray evenly. It just seems as if it does not have any effect on items from the inventory, for no good reason.

Only equipped items are repaired. Items in the inventory are not repaired.

When repairing armor via NPC, e.g. Antonin in Lions Arch, all items are repaired, equipped or in the inventory of the current character. Therefore, I would expect the canister to work the same way, especially as the tooltip does not say otherwise.

The way it works right now, repairing only equipped items, makes it very annoying to use, when often swapping items with stats for different situations, e.g. open world solo, open world big events, dungeons, WvW.

Guesting is Coming

Please re-evaluate the region restriction. With it in place, I cannot even use guesting for personal needs, in order to temporarily switch to NA when I play at odd hours. And as stated by others, it is a big showstopper for international guilds and alliances.

I’m from EU and when playing other MMOs on NA servers, lag is a very minor issue compared to the social limits of such internet borders. It should be fine as long as players are informed that lag is a drawback of a possible cross region solution. But not implementing the feature in the first place would be a pity.

Can I delete a PM after reporting it?

This looks like the known bug which happens when setting interface size to small in the graphics options. A workaround for me is to set interface size to normal.

It seems the major effort of getting a legendary is all about grinding money. So selling them on the TP is the last consequence to cheapen the accomplishment of getting one even more.

It would be nice if there would be something more epic about the journey to get the legendary. I heard about a quest to be added to get a precursor. I think that’s the right direction and cannot wait for it. But all legendaries should obviously also be account bound and not subject to trade between players.

The rewards in the grove dungeon did not even seem to reset at midnight GMT, which is a pity. So once Tixx arrives in LA there is no real point in doing the dungeon if you have done each version once already. This will be a long holiday. :o
It would be nice if rewards (cogs etc.) reset at least once a day.

Alt+F4 is no escape
If someone that you’re fighting disconnects during combat (via Alt+F4, killing the client process, etc.) their character will be instantly killed, death penalties will be applied, and XP & loot will be handed out as usual.

Why not instead leave the character of the player in the game for 10-20 seconds, vulnerable to attacks? This alternative method seems to be well established in plenty of similar online games, as it would avoid issues like being stuck in combat state without actually being attacked. If no enemy manages to kill this player within the time-frame, then no one should get any loot or death penalty.

Also for those with a low-range to a mid-range system, could make separate graphics settings for PvE/sPvP and for WvW. Changing the graphics setting every time one enters WvW could get tedious for others.

I haven’t seen customize-able option profiles since EQ2 over 5 years ago. When there are
different environments in a game like WvW, dungeons, open world, etc. it makes so much sense to be able to define individual profiles for each, in order to get a good player experience.

I think developers and players will always have opposite opinions on randomness. Developers like it and players hate it. Maybe randomness should be kept away a bit more from gear that increases a characters combat effectiveness, in contrary to cosmetic and optional things like skins.

Has this anything to do with nameplates not showing on some enemy invaders?

As I noticed after this reset for the very first time, that some invaders rather close to me would not show their name unless I target them. I have showing of all names, enemy, friendly and NPC enabled.

This happened in a situation with a maximum of 20 allies and 20 enemies around me, but not more than 5 allies and 10 enemies in my field of view.

Also I noticed micro stuttering in WvW combat for the first time today. It does not occur in PvE, only near or right in the middle of battles in WvW.

Interesting. It looks like the Trait “Electric Discharge” is the cause of this.

It happens without any traits as well. I have bugged it in game months ago, and it is the very first on the stickied bug list in the Elementalist forums:

I just tried to pug fractals level 2 and we started with the dolphin level. A minute into the jelly fish, the whole group suddenly got booted to Lion’s Arch. It took us a moment to figure out that it was the party leader who got disconnected, so the game kicked out the remaining 4 of us in the middle of the fight. We could have easily defeated the boss with 1 player down.

This makes 3 fractal runs since the content patch a week ago, 2 of which ended abruptly just a few minutes from the start because one player DCed.

it’s really about large events in general anyway.

Something was horribly wrong with our ability to receive kill credit (both XP and a chance of receiving drops from the corpses)

Thanks for your detailed post! What you describe takes most of the fun out of well populated dynamic events for me currently.

I imagine if you mostly farm events for karma it is not an issue. But the game already seems extremely reluctant to support players with a most basic gold income in PvE at max level, compared to other MMOs. It seems to me you have to go out of your way with gearing for magic find and speccing for some form of efficient AoE tagging build, in order to produce a steady income from drops in events.

Those problems are kind of cancelling out the cooperative PvE aspect the game is supposed to have, so I hope the devs can take a serious look at it soon.

EDIT: Forgot to add, I got 1-3 drops from the Ancient Karka event, apart for the chest. That event was nearly 3 hours of button mashing on my overflow, I maybe only AFKed for about 10-15 minutes max.

There is also a new MgF/Vit/Tuf in the Fractals. It’s called Wayfarer.

I think a piece of Magic Find gear has 3 stats: combat attribute A, combat attribute B, and Magic Find. As I understand the argument of the OP, for the problem described it does not matter what specific stats A and B are.
When replacing one combat stat with Magic Find on a piece of armor, the wearer contributes less to the need of the group but more to their own greed.

In dungeons it is probably worst, but the negative effect of Magic Find exists in any kind of cooperative PvE activity which involves killing and looting.

Meta event Temple of Grenth is currently stalled at: Protect Tactician Footi as she sets up her cannon.

NPC Footi is nowhere to be found in the event area, trash mobs just seem to spawn in a loop and the event does not advance.

To my knowledge this is a showstopper, as it blocks access to the Temple of Grenth, and in consequence access to the Arah dungeon and personal story step Victory or Death.

What stats are you focused on?

I went for full sets of crafted exotic Valkyrie armor, Knight jewelry and Berserker weapons. That means power, vitality, toughness, precision and crit. damage. Then I added Dwayna runes for the support front, especially as the superior ones did not need me to sell any of my organs in order to afford them.

For open world PvE, dungeons and extremely infrequent WvW, with mostly staff and a little scepter/dagger, those stats feels most well rounded to me. But I have only done the first 6 story mode dungeons so far.

It would be nice if there was a few strong solo PvE builds, which bring the Ele closer to other classes, of course without overpowering it in PvP. The solution should not be trying to ignore how fast other classes can kill mobs.

I think it was Jon Peters who mentioned during beta, that Ele is the hardest class to balance. So I guess changes will only happen very slow.

I Just upgraded from 7 to 8 and GW2 is fine. The only annoyance so far is that I cannot enable any other language in Windows but this has nothing to do with the game.

Problem: Mad King’s Labyrinth is inaccessible since over a day, because all events which I thought should open the special haunted doors to the labyrinth, are either stalled in Queensdale, or just keep looping in Kessex Hills and Gendarran Fields.

Server: Gunnar’s Hold

Events:

  1. Queensdale – Meta event: Knocking On The Door – Help the Durmand Priory with their investigations – Doors investigated 1/3 – This event is stalled on 1/3, since before the special Mad King event in Lion’s Arch.
  2. Kessex Hills – Meta event: The Mad Engineer – The 3 or 4 events involved, seem to just loop endlessly. Looping as in, the events once finished just start over after a short time. I have participated in winning these events over and over, but never once have the special haunted doors appeared.
  3. Gendarran Fields – Meta event: Advisors Of The Lunatic Court – The problem appears to be exactly like in Kessex Hills. Winning the events does nothing and they just keep looping.

According to Dulfy’s guide, GW2 Access to Mad King’s Labyrinth / Realm, those meta events are supposed to open special haunted doors which grant access to the labyrinth.

Many thanks for the update. It feels better, but now the odd FoV difference between resolution 1920:1200 and 1920:1080 seems more pronounced.

1920:1200 seems to cut off at the sides and zoom in a little, compared to 1920:1080. But I would expect the viewport of 1920:1200 to be larger (i.e. to see more of the world) when compared to 1920:1080, not effectively smaller. This is the same problem Diablo 3 has.

Maybe this could be looked into? I know at least for comparison, SWTOR did not have this problem, when I last played a few months ago.

EDIT: What I am trying to say is that the larger resolution seems to have a slightly smaller vertical FoV, compared to the smaller resolution, even though both resolutions have the same width. It would be very nice if this could be adjusted as well.

I get weird stuttering with those on GTX 690 + Windows 7 64bit. Did a clean install as always.
After downgrading back to the 306.63 I had installed earlier and the stuttering is gone.

The problem seems to go away or at least I don’t notice it anymore when disabling multi-GPU mode. I wonder what has changed since 306.23 or 306.63 as those were giving me fantastic performance.

Can’t hurt to attach a current -diag file I guess.

EDIT:
When enabling vsync, instead of adaptive vsync or leaving it off, the issue also seems to go away.
Also the game client crashes each time when I exit to desktop with those drivers installed.

I just had something like this happen on a Borderlands in WvW on my Elementalist.

I could not move at all like being frozen or immobilized. Neither movement keys or pressing down both mouse buttons worked, dodge would not work either. Skills still worked as I could switch attunements. There were no conditions or me and no enemies close. It did last about 10-15 seconds.
