I dont do SPvP, i would go and play a MOBA or a FPS if i wanted that kind of pvp system, but you can try and spread the word here https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/pvp/pvp for 1v1 match system or even in the PvE map so they can duel while waiting for a dragon.

I run solo a lot, especially when doing jumping puzzles or scouting.

So yeah….I fully endorse this ’ duelling’ idea, next time you see me (a lone mesmer, specced for 1v1) kindly form an orderly queue and fight me 1v1

Im easy to recognise as I tend to /wave,

I seldom try to engage people 1v1 when scouting, the mission comes first and being a 1v1 specced mesmer duelling and winning isnt really that much of an achievement, while dying would really shatter my fragile ego :-p

First off, best wishes to the whole GW community, a bit belated perhaps but I doubt Im the only one having a slow gaming start in the new year. Various parties, cleanups and new years resolutions have kept me from being too active in either game or forums, now, with the muscle aches of one of those resolutions limiting my physical activity I thought it was a good time to return to WvW.

Prior to the new year I transfered over to Piken Square from Gunnars Hold, quite a few of our fighters were considering moving and I couldnt resist the opportunity to take a peak in Pikens kitchen to see how they are doing. I talked to some Piken Square commanders prior to hopping over to make sure they wouldnt be too shocked, Vzirel and VIIth promptly decided that since I was coming over it would be a safe period for them to take a holiday :-p

I definatly had a blast on Piken, I didnt do much PvE because…well, its PvE. But the WvW crowd is as nice a bunch of people you can hope to run into. Guild groups and pugs alike are very welcoming, even if you are a complete stranger. I asked guilds if they minded me tagging along and not a single one objected, in fact, all were very welcoming. The Piken Teamspeak server was likewise very openminded. Even as a complete stranger they took the time to listen to suggestions and discuss options.

Piken differs from Gunnars Hold in a few aspects though, Apart from BOON control I didnt see much use of defensive siege setups, some, but not much. In Gunnars you can track our wereabouts by the position of defensive siege we leave behind. There also seemed to be less mesmers than on Gunnars. When I ran the mesmer jumping puzzle taxi the idea that mesmers could do that was quite new to some Pikeys, On Gunnars we mesmers frequently run puzzles in the hopes that the people we help will not complain to loudly on the forums about our overpowderdness :-)

All in all, a very nice server, but I returned to the people on Gunnars at the end. Still quite a few nice and crazy people left on Gunnars and its my brand of crazy so I missed them.

Great fights with tightly run groups, and as I found out when guesting there: its all done by very friendly and nice people. Politely and without fuss they plan the dismantlement of their enemy. Even in their internal coms they are polite and respectfull about their opponents.

They fought us a long time ago, had a chat with some of their commanders then. Was a blast, dont think I ever heard Slaughtererer get such a scare as Vanz gave him :-p

Appears that next week will see another national server in T1, the Germans this time. I dont know if Vizunah has Canadians or not(never fought them) but I’m pretty sure the Germans dont have any overseas allies that speak the same language,.

The closest would be several Dutch and as a rule they dont team up that well with the Germans :-p

Should be interesting to see how that goes next week, hope to see less accusations of hacking/cheating though. Every server seems to have hackers, even the lower tier ones. Best to report and move on, hope that they will get banned.

Had loved to see Blacktide fight both Elona and Vizunah but that doesnt seem likely :-(

Professions seem to vary from server to server tbh,

Gunnars Hold for example has a lot of mesmers, currently a guest on Piken Square where there dont seem to be that many.

RoF seems to be home of the killer Necro’s, seen other servers that seem to ritually murder anyone that doesnt play a thief.

Would be nice to see the stats per server, preferably level 80’s only. I mean, I got alts of all professions but mostly play Mesmer.

loot bags, they tend to acrue when you are manning a siege engine, giving you the choice of manning your post or getting ze lootz.

I confess, once I see five or more shiny loot bags I have been known to leave my post momentarily :-p

doesnt take long happily, but yeah, missing loot isnt fun, auto loot would help.

Not currently fighting in this match up, but I like to suggest that all further complaints about hacks/cheats/exploits are send privatly to both Arenanet and respective community people that have posted here.

All servers have their bad eggs, lets not let them pester us in the threads as well as the game.

Word to the wise on AG. Don’t come to rely on the former GH guilds, they obviously have a track record of defecting not just to any server, but the enemy server, when times are hard.

To be fair to LoE, they had already mentioned they were thinking of leaving weeks ago.

They will have their own reasons for choosing AG.

I agree, it would help a lot. Siege engines can be practised which is good. But it would be nice to at least be able to fight 1v1, that would help prepare people for the tricks they can expect out in the field.

Im a mesmer, it would help if I could show people how to spot the real mesmer rather then the illusions.

Right now it goes like this.

‘No that’s a phantasm’
‘Your hitting a clone now’
‘Now your hitting your keyboard, with your face’

Which ends in servermates swearing eternal hatred to all mesmers, and that leads me to portalling them up in the Jumping Puzzle to prevent them petitioning Anet to ritually burn all mesmers.

I dont share your experience with pugs but I know that many commanders do, I have met quite a few new people in WvW so perhaps thats the reason.

Pugs will be pugs, in fact, Im frequently one myself.

But I actually meant your advice to our community, not just the pugs around your group.

Thieves, given one class the highest burst DPS, highest speed and guaranteed escape to is a bit much.

since rendering issues isnt a thief ability I feel they shouldnt be faulted for that. We already have enough kitten evidence to hang them thrice over :-p

But….dont nerf them too much, I like thieves for being the best covert ops/scouts. My main problem is that even if you know a thief is there it currently is to easy for them to just keep stealthing and kiting(not just stealthy but fast as well).

Why not make rangers the fastest movers instead?

There are slightly more GH people online then would otherwise be the case, but not that many more then is normal for us, our overal numbers are actually lower than normal, the remaining guilds only have a few more on though.. When KISS was on Gunnars Hold you often took a borderland for yourself, considering your size, that made sense. That also meant you didnt have eyes on a lot of the other players.

None of the KISS members spend time in the Community mumble, Disaproval did at first but stopped later. Considering the hassle of being on two comms with large groups of people AND commanding, that isnt surpising.

Its just that now that KISS is on the other side you will see the rest of Gunnars working together because they are right there in front of you.

When KISS came back from Ehmry Bay they were welcomed back, some had their doubts about your sincerity when your leader said ‘Gunnars Hold is the only place for us in the EU’, I was not one of those.

When your leader told us about trolls we actually send people with you to find out who those trolls where. Turned out they were people who trolled both KISS and the rest of Gunnars.

Most of our community did respect you, apparantly not enough for your tastes. We had trolls, but few that targetted KISS more then they did all of us. Of the ones that did that at least one claims to have followed you due to how succesfull the trolling was, that one isnt who he claims he is btw, he claimed to be the leader of Book but isnt. I have little love for Book’s leader but wouldnt want anyone’s reputation to get slandered by impersonation.

As for the strategy, KISS was the largest guild we had, most other guilds had to find tactics and strategy to counter larger numbers. TDA/BdB/Cry Havoc(keep forgetting the tag) for example became very efficient in move fast, hit hard. Gunnars also became very adapt at using defensive siege.

As someone who has run with KISS as well as being a part of the GH forums and mumble I ask you where you(KISS) have pointed out your advice that got ignored by so many. I havent heard that advice on the WvW meetings, nor read about it in the forums, or in /Team or heard it on your Teamspeak when I relayed between KISS and other guilds.

This is a genuine question, if you did advice us, it somewhere got lost I fear. If that is one of the reasons for losing a guild I’d rather find out about this oversight then start losing more guilds to it.

Thank you for defending the tower, sounds fun. Losing stuff late at night is something we have accepted will happen in this match up( and to be fair, GH does their share of nightcapping)

RoF, we definatly arent teaming up with AG against you. Nor are we teaming up with RoF against AG.

Wouldnt work anyhow, both RoF and GH do fine when awake, its when we need to get sleep and wake up to AG having capped everything.

Thats the nature of WvW, dont get me wrong. But its very good to see Gunnars Hold defeat the people that left us saying we were kitten at fighting.

@RoF: what the hell are you feeding your necromancers? didnt get the guild tag of those lads but their conditions HURT, very well done. Also seen one of your guildless necros use a very handy method to solo camps, we got into a bit of a fight since we were both trying to solo the same camp, neither of us managed to kill the other.

@AG Lords Of England, reduced to attempts to camp the puzzle and your commander running to the invulnerable spot in vale in a 1v1. Still, have never seen you so active in Gunnars Borderlands before.

@Gunnars Hold: There are still KISS members in our server, while some openly admit to spying(though I havent seen them sabotage anything to be fair) the majority either doesnt know if they want to move or doesnt want to move for various reasons, some didnt even know they were supposed to be in AG.

Please dont give them any grief over what the AG KISS say and do.

If you dont like outmanning people, come to Gunnars Hold for the week and fight Aurora Glade, its ok. Moving to an opposing server actually helps your own, thats what KISS has been telling us ever since they left.

You dont have to say you win only due to numbers, cause indeed, you have proven that before already.

AG you will win, you recruited a load of our people that you didnt need against us who now try to tell us ‘its for our own good’. We will fight you, you will fight us. You have quality people as well as quantity but dont try to paint this match up as ‘equal’ or ‘balanced’, youll win and move up and THATS where you will need these new fighters and where claiming to be in a balanced Tier actually makes sense.

For our part, we will just keep killing you&get lootbags.

There is bad blood between Aurora Glade(KISS)&Gunnars Hold, rather than letting it derail the match up thread Ill explain why here.

- Moving to the highest population server in your match up and expressing you hope it will be an ‘even and fun’ week
- Claiming that a server is your ‘one true home’ then within days, doing your best to stomp that server into the ground by joining a server that really didnt need your numbers to do that. Claiming to want to teach us a lesson and bragging about going to defeat us(again, while teaming up with a server that already did so easily two weeks back)
- Despite saying how much you liked most of Gunnars, on reset, trying to flood Gunnars Hold Borderlands. To be repelled by the people you claimed couldnt fight. Only being able to take objectives when RoF and GH go to sleep.
- Leaving trolls behind to sing your praises and guild members to spy. They arent even subtle about it.

Good thing CIR/Thun are mostly playing Planetside 2, I’d never hear the end the ‘told you so’.

Gunnars wont win on points, we will just fight you for as long as you are in this bracket. On reset both Ring of Fire and Gunnars outscored and outfought you, that lasted till the small hours. We might not be able to fight in all time zones, but the servers above have better coverage and good fighters :-)

When there were fighters in the field, Ring of Fire led in points and points per tick, followed by Gunnars Hold. When we go to sleep, they come out to cap.

We will not play the points game this week Aurora, its how you win in WvW sure, but we will be going for fights rather then points. Im not saying you dont know what fights are cause RoF and GH showed you last night before we went to bed.

Very nice fighting for, Ring Of Fire proved themselves very capable as they immediatly took and held the lead in points gain which they only lost when they went to sleep.

KISS, dont pretend your moving was meant as a ‘wake up call’ to Gunnars, or that this is a ‘balanced’ match up, you were on Gunnars the previous time when Aurora Glade easily outdistanced us in points. You know you will beat Gunnars.

Still, Gunnars had a lot of fun fighting KISS/LoE and talking to the LoE commander who was just relaxing on our lands, he was left in peace.

Only drawback were trolls singing KISS praises on our lands, saying they wanted to be a part of KISS but when told they were free to go they said they couldnt leave Gunnars since it was their true home.

In fairness, KISS denies knowing about these trolls so perhaps their echoing KISS statement from a few days ago is merely coincidence.

Keep up the good fights, well done to all the people in Gunnars who teamed up to keep fighting. Some very nice defenses and attacks.

This week promises to be tough on Gunnars Hold, not only will we face up-and-coming Ring of Fire but we will also be facing former server mates on Aurora Glade: KISS

KISS, the largest guild in Guild Wars 2, has decided to join our opponents, Aurora Glade to give Gunnars Hold a good kicking.

Considering that Aurora Glade was already quite capable of outscoring us last time that shouldnt present our former allies with any difficulty. According to KISS they want to punish Gunnars Hold for trolling them.

Ironically, many of us on Gunnars disaproved of the trolls. One of those trolls contacted me to brag about ‘getting KISS to move’ and wished Gunnars Hold ‘good luck getting stomped’ He said he wouldnt be there because he would also be on Aurora Glade, trolling KISS. He would keep doing that since it was obviously working.

Good luck this week, have fun fighting. Those who are left on Gunnars will continue the fight. Ring of Fire, welcome to this Tier, looking forward to meeting you, Aurora Glade welcome back, looking forward to meeting you again as well.

That would make a lot of people pissed off, just leave the map till you have the outmanned buff, build the dragon, call people back into WvW and then continue the fight with both army and dragon. To exploitable.

KISS is leaving Gunnars Hold and transfering to Aurora Glade, expressing a desire to fight us. Should not be difficult for them as Aurora Glade already beat us without having the massive numbers of KISS on their side.

Seems Gunnars will not be at full strength when we face you and KISS/Aurora would be very happy to attack us. KISS because….well, no true idea tbh they just say they want to and Aurora because of their ‘Operation Triumph’.

Awesome vid, nice to see UP in action in a position where I can actually sit back and watch rather then fight furiously to stay alive!

I dont recognise a lot of it. Different servers have different cultures.

There are some pretty funny names out there. So far none have been sufficiently funny enough to prevent being killed. This doesnt sound like a major distraction.

Had to laugh at Underworlds ‘Mommy, the Charr touched me’ or our own ‘8 inches unbufffed’

Sorry to hear people are bored with WvW, Ive played WvW since day 1 or so and still find it extremely interesting and fun to do.

Hope that a brief break will rekindle your enthuisiasm. Perhaps a new class/server/tactic might help?

yes, good idea apart from the supplies. Would be nice to get more stuff for killing invaders.

Id also include participation in a defense, as it is, people dont get enough reward for doing that.

As far as I can tell there is no alliance between our two enemies, Drakkar is just as likely to attack Underworld as they are us, it just that they often choose to go through us first and being stubborn kittens we try to stop them.

Then we post a bit on Forums with some banter between Drakkar and Gunnars, cant blame them then for coming to pay us a visit. There are certain people on our server who just cant seem to resist pulling the tigers tail.

Drakkar, been fun tonight but I will not be so active in WvW tommorow, PvE night with the guild and the finger I use to press ‘F to loot’ has some cramps ;-)

Interesting question, Do I still feel server pride?

No, I do not ‘still’ feel server pride. When the game launched Gunnars Hold was just that to me, a server name, containing many people. Most of which I didn’t know, for a game I didnt know. I took no pride in being on Gunnars Hold, why should I? If you had dropped me in any other server I wouldnt have known the difference back then.

Then Gunnars started winning most of our 24 hour matches and a bit of pride started creeping in. When we started losing the week long matches several Gunnars left for greener pastures, and cant blame them for that since they never cared for our community.

After that Gunnars took a beating in rankings, several of our former server mates predicted our servers ‘death’. Even some of us that stayed around wondered where we would end up. Then, when the going got tough, our server got going. We banded together in forums, mumble, and above all: battle.

We are not high ranked, we do not have the night or morning coverage, we do not have the elite guilds but we have proven we can and will fight. Not for rank, not for the bits and bytes that is the Gunnars Server but for the community and the pride we take into being part of that.

Every time we win battles against the odds, every time our commanders and fighters step over defeat with humor and grace Im proud of my server.

I has already been said that Whiteside WvW-ers are welcome on other servers, but I’d suggest staying with your server for now. If you move before all has been tried you might come to regret it.

To be fair, most of the time Gunnars outnumbers Underworld. As their pink commander said, their garrison was also under attack when they tried to take the tower.

Hehe, that was a good fight alright. We were actually planning a portal bomb right to top, but your wall repairing messed that thing up totally. I was not patient enough to wait until you stop repairing the wall so I ordered them to rush in, and thats what happened.

Also we got a situation inside Garrison and without wiping out there we might have lost it as Drakkar was hitting it with 4(?) golems total, but we repelled that.

Thanks for all the nice fights, and maybe on this match-up I can meet this slaughterer you all have been talkin about, heh.

PS. What did Drakkar and RoF like my try outs with portals earlier today in UW borderland? Atleast we stopped a lot of Drakkar sieges with them and a lot of men got a good practice of them. Im pretty proud that we did them and succeed in it
