Very nice fight today at Lake tower in the Underworld Borderlands. Hadnt expected Underworld to churn out such numbers to be honest. Managed to record the battle

Drakkar is quite strong during the weekend, for our part, Gunnars hopes to catch up to them during the week. Ofcourse we also need to watch Underworld, being 2nd place means fighting both ;-)

Drakkars Borderlands are upgraded and well defended, we managed to take the camps a lot but they fight like demons for the towers and keeps.

Actually alot has changed over the past few weeks. Of the guilds that came from gunnars hold CIR is the only remaining active force. Yes you will see people from the other guilds such as DKR, INT and ThUn but not alot of them like before. Same with Ruin guild, very few of them active like the numbers that probably fought for desolation. BT has lost alot of players since the first week we reached number 1 spot.

What happened to DKR, INT and Thun?, I was under the impression you guys were quite happily fighting in WvW on Blacktide

We got a bit bored after dominating t1 the first week there. Hopefully we’ll get more people in now that there’s more fighting to be had.

I had hoped that Blacktide would give you the fights and opposition you wanted. perhaps when the French servers set aside their mutual dislike and team up against you?

Cant see that happen though, They seem to love fighting each other. Shame the fights arent living up to your expectations, but can always try a quick pop over to the US based servers and see if you can rise to 1 there as well I suppose.

I am keeping you from getting free sieges, and also because I’m doing something the WvW players on your server would’ve like to do to you since you’re essentially being a dead weight and taking up a queue spot that your server could’ve used to get another WvW player in.

Can you explain your psychological reasoning for doing WvW jumping puzzles at the expense of your server’s interests?

Those sieges are the reason why Gunnars Hold will frequently have mesmers on standby to assist with puzzles.

As one of those mesmers I make it a point not to attack enemies in the puzzle unless they have attacked others before, not out of any altruistic motive but because fighting in the puzzles makes getting others up there more difficult.

No one gets accused of slacking when they do those puzzles, siege is a vital part of WvW.

It is impossible for WvW to settle with free, near no strings attached server transfers still availible. Gear treadmills are only going to make it worse.

Also, GW1&2 aren’t even free to play games.

Yeah I agree, with free transfers the server populations will continue to shift so it wont settle. With free to play games I mean you dont have to pay monthly subs.

We lost quite a few to PS2 as well, but many still out there in WvW :-)

‘stole’ the idea? Many Daoc people like to see WvW the way it is because they have good memories of Daoc, February isnt that far removed, just a few months and WvW is still adjusting itself to match up changed. I think its good they dont make hasty decisions or add-ons in WvW, an area that is very easy to unbalance.

Best let WvW settle a bit, THEN introduce new content. I dont agree with your post about either the stealing or the fact that there wont be any new WvW stuff till February. Considering Guildwars 2 is free to play as was Guild Wars 1 Im happy to see that they release any updates at all, in fact, Anet usually delivers very good upgrades to their game.

But like you, I would like to see new things in WvW and am eager to learn what they might add. Just be patient a bit and dont rip on Anet for using good ideas from other games.

Just one Question, who came to AG website to accuse us of exploits? If you do say that, back it up with images and the guild tag – instead of just saying stop using exploits, so we can actually do something about it.

It only takes a handful of these people to effectively ruin matches by sucking all the fun out of them. These people call it “meta gaming” and think it’s perfectly legit.

They call it that? really? its about as legit as winning a chess match by hiding your opponents pieces so he cant put them on the board. Glad that we havent seen this on European Server yet, or at least, not on the Tier that we are in.

As expected Drakkar has been pushing heavily during the weekend and has build up a significant lead. Underwold and Gunnars Hold are closely tied for score.

Your mentality would mesh very well with our forces. Even when we have the numbers we try not to grow dependend on them. As such we have ninja-ed camps, towers and keeps.

Server wide mumble&forums will help you communicate with other raiding groups out there to prevent both showing up at the same location or to call for a bit of backup should a camp be upgraded/guarded.

The server wide WvW raiding guild gives acces to the Gunnars Irregulars, veterans all who can be called on to fill various roles if you need to fill out your raiding party.

Apart from those tactical benefits we are also a non-elitist, fun-loving bunch. Should you be interested you are welcome to join the comms and see if the personalities would mesh.

Thanks for the commanding, very communicative in both Mumble and /Team, EB is generally considered a pain on which to command but you pulled it off very well.

Vitas will be training more with siege deployment. Our thanks to Unity/Fury for awesome fights in Klovan Gully and Bravost. Both siege deployments have been frapsed and will be evaluated. Gully fell, Bravost held.

What is mostly lacking in siege deployment is the option to tie down elementalists, I really wonder why people bother trying to pull Commander Uroo of the walls, he treats walls as if they are red hot coals :-p

Some great fighting tonight again, its noticeable that Aurora takes a more relaxed attitude now that their victory and promotion are in the bag. Both Whiteridge and Aurora put up some good fights though.

Some of our fighters were recalled to defend our own borderlands against Whiteridge attacks, when we arrived we truelly outnumbered the invaders but I hope Whiteridge still had an enjoyable evening.

Last day tommorow before the new match ups. Should be fun.

You might enjoy the community and spirit of Gunnars Hold, we have good fighters but no elitists.

We are frequently outnumbered and as such have learned to fight the odds, to communicate and cooperate. We have some people in your time zone but I have to admit that is one of our weaker periods.

Today Aurora Glade hosted Operation Triumph, an attempt to draw more new people into WvW in preparations of their next weeks matchup when they will move up a tier.

There has been a bit of bragging and boasting in this matchup so its nice to see a good event being organised and our opponents actually telling us in advance. That way, Vitas could cut short PvE night and find our way to WvW :-)

I had hoped that the event would take place a bit later during the day when more Gunnars were online, during the day our lands were all taken by Aurora, who then proceeded to Whiteridge but were stopped by their valiant defenders.

When the forces of Gunnars started logging in we did notice that there were a lot more new players in WvW on AG’s side then normal, as new players tend to do, they died faster. I hope they still had a good time and I suspect they have because they kept fighting.

I would like to hear from the other servers and other people what their experience was with this event.

Thanks to Aurora Glade for actually mentioning their event, allowing the other two servers to also see what they can field.

Special mention and thanks to Unity/Fury for helping us test a siege set up. You wiped us twice, but the concept is sound I feel. The third time we had KISS standing nearby :-)

Some people will use names to send insults or to threaten, you can report those people then should that happen.

I’d happily put up with those people if it means being able to talk to my opponent. I frequently used the Report function to do so and not once has it degraded in an exchange of insults.

Id rather see this responsibility given back to the players, to act in a mature and civilised manner, with incorrect behavior corrected when necessary(there is an ignore/report function).

Assuming people will not be able to handle such responsibility and treat them like so will just mean they will feel justified in acting in an immature manner. While people in these forums insult each other at times there often are helpfull or supportive comments as well.

There is precious little on WvW tactics and help discussed here. A lot of this can be traced to people not wanting other servers to take a look in their kitchen.

The best way to defend or attack varies, WvW is dynamic and the situations change. But once thing remains a constant: the need to communicate with your forces out there.

1. Call incoming: Report in /Team the amount of incoming enemies and your location, as precise as you can. Watch for disappearing Sentries or Caravans to predict where an enemy force will strike.

2. Call ‘location clear’ when attackers have been dealt with so people know no further reinforcements are needed.

3. Respond to ‘incoming reports’ even if you cant send reinforcements at least acknowledge that the message is recieved. There are few things as disheartening as calling out in a void.

4. Try to get in touch with the organisation on a map, even if you are a veteran or a commander, if you just arrived on a map there will be people there who know more about the current situation then you do.

5. Use the servers communication channels, either go there yourself or if you need to stay on guild comms send a representative to relay information.

So AG planned their WvW event when my guild plans PvE night? :-(

Ill probably miss the WvW tonight but I expect the others from Gunnars to meet AG. Ill donate some siege to a commander for use tonight so I dont feel too guilty.

Meanwhile, Commander Slaughtererer is enlisting an agent to try to get royalties for each time he appears in a video(its the pink armored norn warrior) :-)

Good fights today, in Eternal Battlegrounds AG’s forces were more then WR and GH combined, still, it was fun to put down some siege in Bravost, forcing AG to break out 6 catapults, 2 trebs and 2 rams to take it down.

At that time only a skeleton crew of volunteers remained, allowing others to capture camps while the main force of AG was distracted. Thank you to those defenders that, knowingly and willingly, stayed on their post to the last to buy the others more time.

Whiteridge is still in range of Gunnars Hold in points. Neither Whiteridge nor Gunnars will bridge the gap with Aurora Glade. Nevertheless, my focus will be on Aurora Glade mostly. Whiteridge gives good fights, but the sheer numbers of Aurora give a good opportunity to try various strategies.

This is a video game, not everyone has the same sense of loyalty attached to animated pixels as you do. Not everyone is concerned with making internet friends and not everyone cares if you hate them.

Transferring to the server with the superior numbers does get you tangible rewards, it gets you karma, experience, gold, and badges accompanied with a better playing experience than you’d receive if you were losing. The only drawback is that you may receive the ire of a half-naked sylvari, hardly a drawback.

Not everyone has the same sense of loyalty attached to pixels like you do. Karma, experience, gold and badges. Some play for the game rather than its reward. Moving to a winning server just to be part of the winners feels like entering a marathon one hundred meters before the finish. You might reach the finish first but I wouldnt consider it a victory.

Dont get me wrong, not all that transfer to a higher tier server are going for easymode. Many dedicate themselves to their new home with a passion. Getting up early, staying up late. Considering that there arent any tangible in game-rewards such dedication is admirable.

With the 24/7 set up of WvW that is ironically still split between two time zones, the server with the most time coverage will generally win. If that could get balanced out then the true fighting skills of guilds like VII, RG, KISS, CIR, TDA, RUIN, XAOC and others would get a chance to shine.

I have no difficulty with loyalty to pixels, most of my banking involves pixels, my work gets processed digitaly. calling a game or anything in it just ‘pixels’ is about as accurate as calling your girlfriend a random collection of atoms.

That about sums up Gunnars Hold, Many small scale guilds, a few big ones. But most guilds operate in small teams, attacking camps, yaks, ninjaing towers or even keeps.

Try a mesmer, lots of utility and they can give a fair fight to the thieves, most times when I fight a thief I tend to win(granted, the thief still gets away cause, you know, thief) Mesmers are good 1v1, they arent just fancy taxi services.

Guardians and Elementalists are also quite nice, got a healing/protection Guardian and a class cannon staff ele for melting things from walls or giving free loot to the enemy 1v1 :-)

Good fights so far, Aurora does seem to have slightly more numbers then Gunnars while Whiteridge has slightly less then us.

Please keep the thread clear of accusations about exploits or cheats, if possible, report cheats and exploits to Arenanet and people on the server, we all dislike cheaters/exploiters.

The scores are still quite close, we will see what the week will bring.

Please keep the discussion clean, Id like to see more battle reports then accusations. The French servers already know there is a timezone coverage difference that will start to show up during the week as Blacktide starts pulling ahead more.

Some details about your battles would be more interesting to read then that Blacktide has 24/7 coverage, we already know that :-)

Whiteside, after reset yesterday we had to rethink our fighting style as you stood your ground at water supply camp, then started pushing us back. Good flanking and good fighting from the lower ground.

Aurora, your start was a bit slow after reset but you have really caught up today. Good fights as well. Very annoying thief on you side btw, been chasing him for half an hour on my mesmer to prevent him attacking our yaks. Well done to that guy!

yes it is. I know many people who have done that. Though I would suggest getting to level 10 in PvE before heading into WvW, youll still die a lot but you wont feel quite so helpless.

Some tips:
- run with the main force, at lower level youll need the support numbers give you
- siege engines dont care about level, man them.
- repairing walls/doors, while boring. gives good XP and income during an attack. its vital work that will help you level.
- small ninja teams for camp takes work great for XP but keep in mind that at lower level your contribution to the teams hitting power will be relativly low.

expect to die a lot, dont expect to win (m)any 1v1’s

Long time since WAR, Ive heard many good things about Red Guard in GW2. Apparantly you have been helping Thun and CiR to keep Blacktides Borderlands clean.

Good luck this week, shouldnt be too hard for Blacktide to hold its position. The French servers have already proven in the past that an alliance simply will not work, and as national servers they will not have the time coverage that Xaoc/Ruin gives Blacktide.

Xaoc especially seems very dedicated. Hope for a more interesting T1 matchup this week but not holding my breath ;-)

To the French servers, good luck, Congrats to Arborstone for fighting your way back up and Vizunah, hang in there! you’ve been in T1 for a looong time now, hope youll stay there despite the time zone differences. Would love to see a German server reach T1 as well btw

Drakkar, you deserve your win. Very dedicated, I’ve lost count of the amount of Omega golems you lot have fielded. There doesnt seem to be an end to the Germanic hordes.

Sure you do that. Stealth in this game is just dumb. No timer, you can stealth anytime, nothing stop stealth , nothing knock people out of stealth . Imaging if warrior had an ability that let them hit you and get invulnerable for 3 secs with no cool down. Even if that was the case I still rather fight a warrior. In that case I can at least keep my target on him and chase him down or back away.

This is a typical post from a typical player who doesn’t understand the game mechanics. Play a Thief to ~ level 30 and get your learn on, it will help you fight them.

If you aren’t willing to learn the mechanics of the other professions to PvP against them, then you honestly don’t have anything to complain about.

You are a typical player who plays a typical thief who doesn’t know the potential of your own class. I have no problem with 90% of the thieves out there thank god they are bad like you. But the few who does know the class and ‘abuse’ stealth is just dumb. But you would have a clue what I’m talking about anyway.

So you are complaining about someone being skilled with there class and you didn’t like it/or got owned? I can say the same about every class when the player is very skilled with it.

I’m saying stealth is dumb. It’s NOT FUN to fight someone you can’t target for 1/2 the fight. I’m saying give thieve more stuff if they have to but fix stealth. I just want 10 secs of fight time between each stealth , heck give me 5 I’d be happy.

No, I enjoy it more when the thief is visible and I can hit him. BUT…

Its not fun to hit an illusion rather then the real mesmer
Its not fun to hit a Guardian that heals through everything
Its not fun to hit a ranger underwater
etc. etc.

Thieves have stealth, its their thing, same as us mesmers have illusions. Take stealth away from thieves and what do you have left? a bunch of high DPS fellows with a suspicious taste in leather clothing.

1v1 I expect a thief to have the advantage, stealth is part of that. Their stealth doesnt help them much in the larger scale battles where you are as likely to die by accident then by targetted fire.

Im not a thief, Im a mesmer.

The players got this feeling of being ignored, not due the fact that a lot of the posts here stay without an official answer… But especially due the absence of real updates/fixes in WvW .

If they had to answer every post here it would mean they wouldnt have time to code, let alone list all reactions to all possible feedback. There are people claiming something is OP while at the same time others are claiming its to weak, some report something is fine, others say it needs to be fixed.

Even if Anet had the time to read and listen to everything they could never agree or do what everyone said. And Im quite happy that they dont. All we can hope for is that we can give Anet some idea about what we want and what is going on that they might have missed.

I put more stock in the coders, whose livelyhood it is to make games, then I do in the opinions of the players. Before anyone feels insulted, I include myself amongst that player group.
