Add me to the disconnects, virgin media, uk; stable internet. Gw2 loses connection. Has done it 5 times today in about 2 hours. That’s not good enough really anet. Server reset or diagnostics are needed! Aside from this, the game randomly pops up with this error for no reason at all. All traceroute etc are normal and its ONLY this game that is affected.
How about anet…if you are having server issues to have a dedicated page informing people that there are problems etc currently and to try again later or something? Its a bit annoying when clearly there is something going on and as per usual the customers are not informed of this. Cheers.

GW2 freezing on loading screen Windows 10

One of the common Windows 10 issues is drivers, have you downloaded the latest win10 motherboard drivers and chipset drivers if you are using the generic drivers windows 10 installs this is most likely your issue. If the chipset drivers are not the correct driver for the chipset then this will cause issues with the video card drivers. Don’t use one of those craptastic driver install apps, get the drivers straight from the motherboard manufacturer.

Its nothing to do with that in this case. This is a known bug in Guild wars 2 solved only by the steps mentioned. I will also say this is a workaround and not a fix and Gw2 devs have shown no interest or ability in getting this problem fixed. It has been well documented on here and explained to them several times and nothing has been done. Its a problem only on laptops with Nvidia mobile gpus on Windows 10. Sorry to see that this STILL hasnt been looked at, acknowledged, or fixed.

Very Long Load Times After Patch

Try defragging the drive the game is on; as the patches really seem to fragment the hard drive a lot. If you can defrag that particular folder then do so, but as the game has information in other areas, I would defrag the whole drive. You will see some benefit.
That said, I agree. I dont think patches should have this much affect on loading times, but doing the above helped me after being disgusted at load times after the last patch.

Silent, my post has nothing to do with skill lags or fps drops.

It is a gamebreaking bug that affects EVERYBODY with a Windows 10 laptop and an Nvidia mobile gpu. I wrote that post on the off chance that an actual developer can pass comment on it, but I see now that wont happen.
If you read the thread, its an issue that can be reproduced on every system, so it needs to be fixed by a dev. So far, it has been 8 months and not even a whisper from them about the problem and a fix, or even acknowledgement that the game has the issue. Not good enough.
What is really annoying is that they respond to threads like this that are a random users problem (simple task of selecting dedicated gpu rather than intel graphics for the exe file) and not the games, and completely ignore this massive issue that will affect everybody.

As for the other part of your question, on a desktop gpu, the game works fine on Windows 10. On a laptop it is horribly broken. Issue affects all laptop users: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/stuck-on-loading-screen-when-switching-maps/page/2#post6160530
This has never been fixed or even acknowledged.
You have no need to worry with your desktop system however, the game runs great using the 64 bit client on Windows 10. (r9 390, 2500k@4.6ghz, 16gb ram, Windows 10)

Hi Johan, since you noticed and responded to this thread concerning laptops performance, maybe you could respond to the following thread, which is affecting a massive number of people playing on laptop. Its not isolated to settings, its a game bug that affects ALL users with this configuration:
Windows 10 Laptop issues never been addressed by ANET:https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/stuck-on-loading-screen-when-switching-maps/page/2#post6160530

There are a large number of people with this problem and Anet has not even responded once to this issue. Its not an issue in any other game and is specific to GW2.
I just received a forum infraction for bumping the topic which is ridiculous. The only reason I have done this is that it seems impossible to get the devs attention to these matters; whereas others like this (with no disrespect) get an answer. Why?

Seems this is a bug they wont address or cant fix, and is tied to the games engine. There have been many posts about it and no response from Anet. I wouldnt hold your breath on a fix to this one. Its annoying and has been for years; and in pvp on maps such as skyhammer this will happen every time you dodge over a “spring button” leaving you immobile and defenceless showing it is an inherent engine bug that you can reproduce every time.

Have you tried deleting the local.dat file? This can get corrupted and cause issues. Its in users/appdata/roaming/ Guild wars 2. Delete the gfx settings files as well. To see this folder you will need to enable the ability to see hidden files and folders in windows.

This will reset ALL keybindings and gpu settings so think about that. When loading the game up again this file will be remade and you will need to adjust gpu settings.

Have to say it makes no sense this problem unless there is an item or something on said account that is bound to the character/account and is causing problems. I take it different chars have been tried too? Odd one. Fps is tied to pc performance and cpu performance especially. Both pcs should be able to run this game fine at double those figures at least. Is this on the 64 bit client or the normal one? Try the other client. Also check security on your account page and make sure there is no unauthorised access going on.

The first fix may help in case it is a keybinding issue or some other account specific problem with settings, but how this has happened I couldnt guess. What Maze said is your best bet; settings are left per account on the keybindings and options side so something is not playing nicely for some reason there and resetting and going from scratch might help.

Just how many people are required for the developers to do something about this issue?

At least acknowledgement that this issue is occurring and you are looking into a fix would be nice, we are not in the dark ages of carrier pigeon communication any more -_-

If you cant fix it at the moment, tell us! If you are working on it, tell us! This is a massive issue for a large percentage of your player-base and yet “silence” is your answer to the feedback about the problem. If people knew the problem was being worked on we could work together to bug check and fix it.

Most tech problems like this are sorted out by your team reasonably quickly, so how does a MASSIVE one like this go unnoticed and ignored?

The game has problems with Nvidia/optimus systems. To see whether this is the same error, set the game to “Windows 7 compatibility mode” and do not use in game vsync. If necessary you will need to delete local.dat in order for all settings (graphics and keybinds) to be reset and then make sure Vsync is not switched on. To avoid screentearing you can use borderless windowed mode.

There are inherent problems with this game and Nvidia based laptops. The developers have not admitted anything but there has been a gamebreaking problem for months now directly related to GW2 and Optimus. This is worth a try although yours may be a different issue.

Normally this issue, when it crashes you can alt tab and click the running gw2 process and get back into the game, texture corruption can then be displayed but may be different on your system.

Send in a ticket about it.

Its a known problem that they arent even acknowledging.

Ill guess you run a Nvidia mobile gpu and windows 10. If not then you can ignore this, but the work around is

a)Run the game with no vsync. Its this that is the problem. To avoid screentearing you will need to run in borderless windowed mode until they fix it.

b) Alternatively, run the game in Windows 7 compatibility mode, then you can use vsync.

They have had several tickets and an email with about 30 threads about the same issue. I have also sent this problem to Nvidia, and nothing from both parties.

AMD gpu users are not having this problem.

The devs don’t acknowledge pvp players or players that make balance recommendations or bugs. They will, however, acknowledge pve players and pve recommendations. They give 0 craps about us or at least they make it seem like they do. Then again some players say such hateful things, I don’t totally blame them. I wish they would just like say “we are working on it” for certain things.

Sounds like someone needs to l2p

Don’t even try that kitten. Rev is buggy as hell. Most unused things arent even able to be determined if they need buffs cause they just don’t work.

We can even go beyond that, equaling bad design choices.

Look at Distracting Strikes, causing confusion whenever you interrupt a foe, it’s in Strength, a power traitline. Now look at Dual Wielding, increases the attack speed of your weapon as long as you have an axe, sword or mace in your offhand, in arms, the condition traitline.

You can argue it’s for balance issues, but lets take it a step further of bad design.

Powerful Synergy: When you activate a leap combo finisher, it activates twice.

  • There are 9 combo fields, it has 0 effect on 5 of them! You can argue being worthless with 7. A trait that is 77.7% useless to the entire combo mechanic, you wanna know the best part?

The warrior cannot do anything with the trait with himself, necromancer, guardian, revenant or mesmer.
A trait that is completely useless to over half the professions in the game!!

Powerful Synergy is something you’ll see on food, not a freaking grandmaster trait!

When it comes to designing combat, ArenaNet is really lacking. They have a good base and does nothing with it.

What a great post. Spot on.

Looks a bit similar to the problem Guild wars has with Windows 10 and mobile Nvidia gpus.

Try:
a) running in Windows 7 compatibility mode …OR
b) Running the game without Vsync enabled, and
c) use borderless windowed mode to avoid screentearing.

You may want to try earlier drivers if you have updated to the latest ones. Nvidia are known for gimping old gpus in various ways with later driver releases for obvious reasons.

If this is a specific driver problem, then I would agree. NO DRIVER works to correct this issue. I have sent a request to Nvidia support and received nothing back as yet. This is a problem specific to this game and does not appear in any other title. What does that suggest?
It also appeared since a game update or the Windows 10 update in November last year. Neither party has done anything about it. I would have hoped Anet would want to know about this issue and would be taking steps (maybe with Nvidia) to help. This kind of reply helps noone. If it was a driver issue something would have been changed in a driver to create this problem and an earlier version would correct the issue. This isnt the case. It is a problem on all drivers on mobile Nvidia Gpus running Windows 10. ON THIS GAME only.
Im afraid it is something Anet needs to sort out and it appears have little idea or interest how to do so.

Although I agree the whole legendary crafting process is ridiculous in that it would “cost” you more to do it this way, the whole point in this is that you gather the materials and craft the precursor. i.e. do not buy stuff from the tp. That way you will get a precursor at no gold outlay at all but you will have to take a longer time to do it all. Forcibly so from the time gated parts to the fact there is a massive amount of the basic mats needed to complete the crafting process. This info is everywhere on the web; researching stuff like this is the best way to go about it.
I don’t see how you have “wasted” anything though, you are still further along the process than you were when you started and this is not about buying the things needed with gold but farming the mats yourself. To do it any other way would defeat the point of starting it in the first place.

The cost of the materials is far more than it would be for you to farm gold and buy the precursor outright but there is plenty of information saying this on the internet from a quick search. instead of getting anxious about it, play the game as normal and do a bit of the gathering from time to time and you will eventually get your pre. I am fully in agreement that the requirements are on the ridiculously high side but I’m afraid that is the case with many things in the game

Posting this on the forum isn’t going to help you either, if you think you have a chance of this being reversed submit a ticket but in this case if I was Anet you would be refused.
In any case, it isn’t something to get anxious about; so just take your time and Good luck!

Make sure you are running the latest 16.1 AMD crimson beta driver and not drivers that came out with the card. If you are indeed using the 16.1 drivers and are having this problem, go back to the last Catalyst driver and try that. That card should eat up the game as much as it is allowed to by the game being very much cpu bound. If the problem continues, reseat the card in the pc physically i.e. take it out and put it back in again. After downloading the latest drivers use ddu to uninstall the old ones in safe mode prior to installing the new ones. You can after you run ddu and it has restarted then go through the pc and delete any amd folders (assuming you dont have an amd cpu….if you do best to skip this unless you are sure of what you are deleting) before installing the new ones.

If you have problems in other games then after doing the above you may have a faulty card.

I use an r9 290 Windforce and on max settings without supersampling the game runs great (60fps) solidly in vanilla zones (except lions arch etc where slight drops are common due to cpu limitations and thats on a 2500k @ 4.6ghz which is getting on a bit but has great single core performance) and I recently repasted the gpu and get to a max of 68 degrees. Before the repaste i would get to 73-75 with the stock paste. Which is acceptable and didnt create a massive hairdryer effect. If you are using the stock “blower” design cooler and single fan of the reference models then it will be loud and hotter than other aftermarket ones. I dont know why AMD persist with this cooler. Its terrible.

It has nothing to do with GW2 .. if the GPU does or does not use all 16 lanes its
already visible in GPU-z if you are only on your Windows desktop. So in the end
this is more a problem of bad mainboard or case design or whatever.

How do you explain all the cases of Gw2 being the only game whos performance suffers terribly?

I remember many many examples of people with this exact problem also stating that games like Fo4 run fine.

Why should i explain it .. i just listed a fact. If other games run fine with only 2 of 16
lanes .. good .. maybe they even run great when your CPU is clocked down to 1 GHz
and only 256k of RAM.

Still the fact remains if GPU-z shows not @x16 that is a hardware problem.

If you have 8 GB of ram, but your PC only show 4 GB then a lot of games will
also run great .. but if other need more, then it is not a problem of the game
but of your PC.

Another few facts: Other games would not work well. They would all display the same powersaving problems —low framerates and gpu usage. No game would run well with this type of hardware issue.
You would be getting sub 10fps on a lot of games. This is an issue with GW2 to go alongside the others that the game has ---simply try and use the game on an nvidia mobile gpu on windows 10 and see what happens for another issue with this game directly. There is no explanation for these things outside of GW2s coding imo.

GPU-z will report on what is happening with the hardware at the time. i.e. clock rates etc the same way as cpu-z will report multipliers on cpu speed. This doesn’t necessarily indicate a hardware problem. If the op was to do the same thing on other games and it does not display this issue, what does that tell you? Its a pretty simple test. If they did, then indeed it was a hardware issue all along, but i suspect it isnt. On a new rig, one of the simplest parts is to slot a gpu into a pci express slot which is then locked in and screwed in additionally for support. I doubt all of these peoples machines werent built correctly.

Or better yet moan at both Nvidia and Anet for breaking this game on mobile gpus:
To fix it:

a) Run the game in Windows 7 compatibility mode
b) Run the game without vsync; to eliminate tearing you need to run in borderless fullscreen mode.

Please report this by way of a ticket and mention it is a known problem and we would like some help getting it fixed by anet. Its been 3 months now and they have known about it and done nothing. No Nvidia driver will fix it, unless they come up with a new one. Look at the thread “Nvidia drivers dont work with x64 bit client” on this page and add yourself as another one with this problem. Note that the problem afaik will happen on both clients. As I helped you please submit that ticket :P it will help us all push them for a solution. In any case download latest gpu driver.
Uninstall current driver using DDU In Safe mode(google it. Download latest version)

If problem remains, delete local.dat from user/appdata/roaming/guild wars 2.
If problem still remains in guild wars 2 only try without Vsync on and in borderless fullscreen mode.
This probably wont work, so then you can try downclocking the gpu slightly to see if this helps.
If all else fails try reseating the gpu.

To help answer questions like this, its no good posting a video without current specs and driver versions. It looks like artifacting as suggested but hard to tell without more details such as whether it happens on other games.

There should be no need to “reseat” cards in this way if it was in the correct slot to begin with. Although I’m glad it worked, it points to another bug in guild wars 2 to be honest. I have never had to do this for any game in the whole life of my pc; and its a bit of a coincidence that people are having to do this a lot at the moment.
There are too many of these threads for it not to be; and rigs built by anything other than a novice would always have the gpu installed in this lane. I would bet most people aren’t building their rigs themselves, which suggests the problem is GW2. I wonder why this specific game exhibits this problem :/
To the op….glad it worked anyway. Happy days.

This is a non enduro based 7970m but I will add this suggests the problem needs to be sorted out by ANET AND NVIDIA. So please Anet….do something about it. How many people need to have this problem before something is done?

No; thanks Drugo…anyone with this problem posting is help as Anet will eventually do something about it. This confirms another case where Windows will (using compatibility troubleshooter) default the game to work with Windows 7 compatibility mode on and therefore work correctly as suggested before.

As a side note, latest Nvidia driver installed and tested….same problem as usual. On an 870m. Firing up a laptop today which has an AMD 7970m in to test. Currently updating Guild wars but am interested to see if it has the same problem. Ill bet it doesnt.
This laptop is running using a 7970m but Enduro features are not present which are switchable graphics like the Optimus system Nvidia uses to detect whether an application should be using onboard graphics or the discrete card and I believe this is part of the problem on the game/drivers(/Windows 10?).

We will see…gonna post an update later. Again this system is running Windows 10 on the latest build; and I will test with the x64 bit client not that this matters.

If your mouse is a usb (non wireless) type, and is not completely shot…delete all mouse drivers completely and let Windows install its own generic ones. Aside from this there is another issue. Even if a mouse disconnects it should not leave the cursor “stuck”.

You can also google and download a program called ghostbuster which will eliminate all old usb devices that have been plugged into the usb ports and are not so cleverly always stored by Windows and never deleted even when not used anymore. This may or may not help; but it sounds like a problem with your mouse driver software. It might have something to do with the fact Windows is trying to install new driver software when it reconnects and this is causing a hiccup. good luck!

Also as far as I can tell the latest version is 15.12 (actually 15.12 is newer than 15.3 which suggests AMD doesn’t understand decimal positions).

There is also “AMD Software Crimson Edition 16.1” Listed under drivers on their website which I am not too sure about, I believe this installs a bunch of other applications along with version 15.12 of the driver.

The driver numbers are dates. i.e. 16 being 2016 and 1 denoting January

All of AMD drivers like Nvidias install “a bunch of stuff” and both manufacturers driver installs need to be switched to a custom install and geforce experience and raptr deselected. . They both are useless in terms of pc performance and do more harm than good. The rest of the installation options are fine, install all of those. Geforce experience and RAPTR are good for streaming functions and that is it. The rest is bloatware.

The latest driver is 16.1. This is the one you should be installing, but apart from your current driver being corrupt for some reason this possibly isnt the issue. Do make sure to take the advice above and use ddu to uninstall the current driver in safe mode. Then install 16.1 (make you you have downloaded it before using ddu in safe mode as you will have no network access).

Do not trust the AMD auto update system; and instead turn it off and manually check every month. 16.1 is not whql certified but this makes no difference and it is the best of the Crimson drivers. When installing, select custom install and untick the option to install “RAPTR” as its….useless.

With that rig, you should have great performance…except in zergs etc which will slow the single thread performance down as it does on everyones rig. If this doesnt do the trick, and all other games are fine, make sure your card is seated properly in the x16 pci slot in your motherboard. Also you can delete local.dat in your user/appdata/roaming/guild wars 2 folder to make sure settings were not corrupted for some reason. To access this you will have to enable viewing of hidden files and folders in folder options in control panel. Good luck!

If you are suggesting Windows 10 is a “downgrade” from other operating systems, you might want to check again. Its much better; coming from someone who has used all of them since Windows 95.

NilSatis.6720

Although there are problems in GW2 at the moment on the technical side to put it mildly; I cant say I have encountered this issue at all on my desktop pc. The game runs wonderfully. i5 2500k @4.6ghz, 8gb ram @1600mhz, Gigabyte Windforce r9 290 @ (currently) stock clocks. AMD Crimson 16.1.
Only thing I notice; and this is a problem with the 64 bit client (when are we actually going to come out of beta on this Anet or even have some updates on the client?) that has been there since it released are slight hiccups or pauses very rarely where everything freezes for a millisecond and then comes back perfectly. It seems to happen on really populated maps. The 32 bit client doesn’t do this.

My fps is stable as to be expected, with cpu related dips in zergs etc. To the op. Reseat your gpu, there have been a few threads with this exact problem. Make sure it is in the x16 pci lane slot. Also you could try deleting the Gw2 local.dat from your user directory in Windows (user/appdata/roaming/gw2/local.dat). This will reset graphics options etc. in case something has been corrupted. (rare) The file will be remade when the game is restarted. No download required.

As for the dc with a network issue, thats the game and an exchange server somewhere; they have been having a lot of problems recently with this. I live in the UK and this happens to me sometimes in gw2 on an otherwise stable connection.

If none of this works, I would also try deleting Geforce experience software. It is horrendous bloatware that you dont need (aside from Shadowplay) similar to the AMD junk Raptr. It used to cause severe cpu spikes on the laptop when I used it and problems with certain apps. You can on a custom driver install opt out of installing it. You have a nice pc; you should know how to set graphics options. Dont rely on something else to set that up for you! It will never help you that app….aside from the great video streaming part of it (that can be replaced by other things)

Did you try setting up a modified gameprofile for GW2 using nVidia Inspector yet?
Did you investigate this issue further?
Can you provide insights on energy behavior, latency, timing and clocking while experiencing these things maybe even WPA logs?

I got curious in this matter and only have a 750M available at the moment.

Regardless – A-Net definitly has to act and provide informations. These are the problems that matter and should be priority.

“they wont admit this is a known issue yet will say to avoid using Windows 10”

Very, very dissapointing.

There is also a very recent Hotfix driver called 361.60 dealing with alot of clocking and management based issues. Maybe give it a try.

Yeah, I have investigated this a lot. I will state that I investigated it on a machine I bought for my girlfriend before; on my machine which is a desktop using Windows 10, the game works fine. There really isnt a lot you can do to test it further however as the game simply will not use the Optimus system to switch the gpu on right from the login screen. It works on the login screen, and character select screen and then crashes loading any map. This is when the light to the mobile gpu goes out; suggesting either it has stopped responding or there is some switching issue. When you then go out of the game using alt tab and click on the unresponsive gw2 icon in the taskbar it will fire the game back up and load the map.

Then you will see texture corruption on things….maybe not straight away; but shortly after, or when loading a new map (which will hang again). It all points to drivers but I tried every known Nvidia driver (this was a month or so ago) and nothing worked. If they have released one now I am yet to see it. I have been keeping an eye on the changes but have not actually tried the latest hotfix driver; as it seems Nvidia support is mostly for desktop gpus.

Nvidia settings/ inspector settings do not work on this game (maybe since this problem?) examples being vsync and forcing other graphics changes. This might also be specific to mobile gpus, but nothing I did changed the behaviour of the problem. This included fresh Windows 10 install and driver uninstallation/installation of every driver on the laptop. Also a game repair, and a complete reinstallation of the game.

Also worth noting is injector based software such as reshade will also no longer work on mobile gpus since this problem. It simply will not load the game up at all with the .dll files present. On my desktop I can use Reshade with no problem (variant of Sweetfx). This is the good part…..on ALL other games reshade will work fine. Something is borked with Gw2s coding.

I have tried going into the registry and deleting all old gw2 files after uninstalling; also appdata/temp files…everything. Nothing changes the problem. Deleting local.dat helps so far as the map loads with default gpu settings. As soon as you touch vsync (or sometimes other gpu settings) the game will freeze. The same problem can then be seen again.

Remedy for the error is run in Windows 7 compatibility mode…..really? This is on a system that never used Windows 7. It used Windows 8.1 before the upgrade to windows 10. Using compat mode for 8.1 doesnt help the problem. Only 7……wtf?!

Another remedy is to not use Vsync. WTF? If Vsync is not used then the game works fine, with horrendous tearing that cannot be avoided other than using borderless windowed mode. So there we have it. Pretty much an essay on the exact problems with this game. Hopefully someone at Anet can bother to test and work out the problems as much as I did. Again….all other games on this system work perfectly. Nothing like these issues.

There was a time when Windows ME was the CURRENT operating system, but many people will remember how awful it was. Just because it is current doesn’t mean it is the best to use. Windows 10 has a lot of updates that happen without most users knowledge, and it also still has an issue with the automatic driver updates.

That’s a windows issue, not a game issue. You really should take your problems up with Microsoft. Anet can only do so much. They can’t go and make the drive work for their game. Especially when it works for so many others.

Sorry, we have moved on from Windows ME; this is an issue with Guild wars 2. It happens in one game. “the drive”…..not sure what this means. If you mean the Nvidia driver; then its “drivers”, as none of them work. It beggars belief that people like you try to stick up for Anet on issues like this. They have made a great game, but this is a real problem that THEY need to deal with, and we would like to know they are dealing with. Shifting blame here isnt going to help. Are you suggesting people should switch os’s back to inferior earlier ones due to one incompatible game? That I will add was compatible at Windows 10 launch and in Beta.

To repeat again, this happens only with Guild wars 2. There are a number of threads on it in these forums. There are no threads about any other game. That suggests it is specific to a coding problem with Guild wars 2 and the way it uses Vsync and detects mobile gpus. This also suggests it can be fixed….

Im actually not sure if this affects AMD mobile gpus but since the problem is related to Optimus I dont think it will.

For gaming Windows 10 is the best OS to use, no question about it. It is also the OS MOST people are going to be using, if they havent made the switch already. Automatic driver updates can be switched off by users and you can uninstall any drivers updated and reinstall anything you like. I have done extensive testing on this problem and it is SPECIFIC to Guild Wars 2. That isnt a Windows problem, its an Anet problem. The fact that they havent even acknowledged there is an issue is both very poor from a customer service perspective and also a marketing perspective. If you buy a new gaming laptop, chances are it will have Windows 10 on it. Their game will not work…..they might want to think about that. In fact Im sure they do.

Whether they actually read these forums when the issue isnt to do with gem store stuff or account problems is another matter as it seems this sort of thing gets completely ignored.

I was having issues with my nvidia driver so I rolled back to an earlier version and haven’t had any issues so far.

Thats great, but did you read the thread? This is a problem with Windows 10 and mobile Nvidia gpus…..if you don’t have these specs then you wont have a problem. Rolling back to an earlier Nvidia driver does nothing to correct this problem.

I use reshade fine on an r9 290. If however, you are running Windows 10 with an Nvidia mobile gpu it will not work and neither will any form of Sweetfx. This was broken alongside using Vsync for Nvidia mobile gpus since the November 2015 Windows 10 update. Nothing will fix it aside from not running with Sweetfx. Amd users are not affected by this. It is a problem specific to Guild wars 2 and Nvidia mobile gpus.

All other games will work fine with it on an Nvidia mobile card.

Diagonal Line On Screen During Game Play

NilSatis.6720

This is a corrupt texture bug on Guild wars 2 specific to mobile Nvidia gpus and Windows 10. You actually remedied the problem yourself temporarily, as Vsync is the main cause of the problem for unknown reasons. It causes map hanging at loading screens and artifacts and this diagonal line on occasion. WIthout using Vsync you will suffer screen tearing. This can be avoided completely by running in borderless fullscreen mode or by actually running the game in Windows 7 compatibility mode.

Its a known bug that anet a) wont acknowledge or b) attempt to fix so it seems.

Is there going to be an official response to this problem? Its a rather large one for a lot of your customers, and you aren’t letting us know whether you are able to fix the problem?

It is easy to replicate on multiple systems and yet its like Anet are denying it exists. Even chatting with support, via a friends account who has EXACTLY the same problem its clear that they wont admit this is a known issue yet will say to avoid using Windows 10. This is the CURRENT operating system and while I understand GW2 was not out when Windows 10 was introduced this is the only problem of its kind I have seen on close to a library of 200 games since moving to Windows 10.

Nvidia drivers work fine on desktops which is what most people will be gaming on and therefore will reply about “theirs working fine” which is absolutely true but not relevant to your problem.

My desktop has frequent driver crashes (Nvidia, win 10, 64bit client) in just gw2. The newest driver (361.43) is virtually unplayable for anything more than casual mapping, while a November driver (358.91) gets hiccups, but is otherwise functional. I’d go back further if I knew one was specifically better.

The problem may be more common with the mobile gpu’s, it doesn’t seem limited to them.

Yours is a different problem if you do not get hanging on map load only and when alt tabbing and highlighting the gw2 running process and loading back in get freezes and texure corruption. Im 100% sure this problem happens only on Nvidia mobile gpus and Windows 10 after the November update. All other games work fine.
Your problem sounds like something else entirely tbh.

Starting a new thread would be better with the exact problem if you cant confirm this is EXACTLY the same issue you are having, and my advice if you haven’t done it yet is to disable driver updates for 3rd party apps in Windows 10, use DDU to completely nuke your current (and past) Nvidia drivers and the registry entries after downloading the latest driver, and start again by installing the latest driver. IF you are still then having problems you need to look a bit more at a hardware issue or if the problem only happens in gw2 try underclocking the card if it has a factory overclock (shouldnt have to do this but can help). Again this last part is if the game only crashes in gw2.

To op, if you are indeed using a laptop gpu then I would revise the title of your topic if you can to “Nvidia Mobile gpu drivers dont work with GW2 on Windows 10”.

Nvidia drivers work fine on desktops which is what most people will be gaming on and therefore will reply about “theirs working fine” which is absolutely true but not relevant to your problem. Please, please also report this to Anet. The more people that report it, the more likely they will have to do something.

To Sassy…there are far more problems than that issue with Nvidia laptop drivers, which to be honest is to be expected and advanced users would have picked up on that and gone into Nvidia control panel and selected for the gpu to be used on the new .exe file. The other problem is non fixable by the user and has as much to do with Anet and Microsoft as them. See posts above.

Laptop Buying Guide

Read about the problems with laptops and Nvidia gpus on this game under Windows 10 if I was you. If this game is the main reason you want to buy one. This still hasnt been fixed. There is a topic right next to yours where this is detailed “Nvidia drivers wont work on x64 bit client” and “Stuck loading map” and “texture corruption on nvidia mobile gpu”. I would tell you to search but the search function on this forum is terrible.

Aside from this problem a high spec gaming laptop will play the game great. The post by Loli is great, and mentioned what you should be aiming for, but you will pay a premium on a laptop compared to a much better performing desktop. If thats what you need then I highly recommend custom made laptops by Clevo/Sager for best bang for your buck/euro. Some of the latest MSI ones are great too, but are not so good cooling wise. This is the biggest concern, you want to keep temperatures down as much as possible. The 8 and 9 series Nvidia mobile gpus will do that. Im a massive Amd gpu fan as far as desktops go (price vs performance and their drivers are pretty good now in the main), but stay well away from them in laptops. That said….they dont have the problem the Nvidia ones do that I first mentioned but in general gaming terms they are not the preferable option. Hope this helps.

Because you dont use Windows 10 OS (with November update) on a Laptop with an Nvidia Gpu Loli? If you did, you would be getting this problem; if anyone is using a Windows 10 based laptop with a 8 or 9 series nvidia gpu (800m or 900m) and are not getting these problems please let us know.

It is something to do with the Optimus driver system and the latest update. If you look on the laptop when the map stops loading you will see the dedicated gpu light come on and then go off again. When you alt tab and click the non responding game in the task bar, this will fire up the dedicated card again and it will work. Alongside this texture corruption.

Unless you use the steps I specified i.e. compatibility mode (only windows 7 works) and alternatively turning off vsync. Nvidia desktops and AMD desktops do not have this problem. It is mobile Nvidia gpus that do. Why that is…Im afraid, is beyond me. By now though this problem should have been fixed. It wasnt my laptop that I was working on to solve this problem so I haven’t tested this current Nvidia driver, but Im pretty sure it will have the same problem since even going back to drivers before Windows 10 has no effect; also several slightly older drivers before now either. Even reinstalling windows 10 and gw2; and completely clean installing drivers (including intel too) has no effect.

Carapace Coat Box: Feedback & Suggestions [merged]

75 tries now on Vinewrath. 1 Carapace coat box; that everyone gets. Rest of the collection done, so am waiting for something that relies on rng and is clearly broken. FIX it please ANET! No Carapace coat box since. Actually the drop rate from other carapace pieces is non existent now too incidently. Something is not right here. I dont even like the coat, but I want this collection done. It took AGES and is worthless waiting on a broken mechanic.

Reclaimed weapons - reclaimed metal plates

I have a similar case…..Tried doing the (admittedly horrible) Luminescent armour collection…all achievements and everything and then being unable to complete it because the Carapace chest armour from the Vinewrath in Silverwastes never drops. I have had a guild mate get around 30 of these. I have got one. Which is the one every one gets. RNG has dictated that in no less than 75 attempts (i have given up…f dat) with different characters, this didnt drop once more. I cant be bothered to keep trying. The game is broken in this case for me. I think something needs to be looked into on some of this stuff. Do i keep going….or is this broken?
As for the reclaimed stuff…I have done verdant brink 100% with two characters and have completed many meta events. Some of these were constantly bugged without reward as well at first. Not sure if they are fixed now….I have given up. I received 2 reclaimed metal plates through all of this. Ridiculous; and not fun :P There must be something generically wrong with the rng for these kind of items that gets broken on accounts and is never fixed. Can Anet really tell us this is the intention? I get the feeling I can get more reclaimed metal plates if I played for another 80 hrs or so (REALLY?) but the Carapace chest armour not dropping is undoubtedly broken.
Also I have 200% magic find and this has NO relation to what drops at all as usual. <——-broken mechanic right there.

Plenty of threads about this…search “map not loading” “texture corruption” etc. Please submit a ticket to anet despite this; as its the only way they are going to do something. Windows 7 compatibility mode or running the game with no Vsync also works (you can run windowed fullscreen mode to avoid screentearing—at a performance hit).

Also tools such as reshade/sweetfx will no longer work either; no matter how you play.

NilSatis.6720

Reporting it to Nvidia is great, but why should customers do this when it is happening in this game only? It is up to Anet to correspond with Nvidia and Microsoft over why the changes have affected Guild Wars 2 directly in this way and no other game.

Recently Fallout 4 has displayed bugs in AMD drivers to do with the compass. Instead of hiding this issue, Bethesda worked with AMD to sort this out over a couple of drivers for all cards. Why cant Anet do the same? This is a massive problem for them as a lot of people play this game on laptops; a game that otherwise works very well on a decent gaming laptop; and as Nvidia is the way to go regarding a gpu on gaming laptops, they will have a LOT of people with this problem.

In any case, I’m sure (I hope) people have reported this to Nvidia, as I have; and they are aware of the issue but as it is directly related to one game I hope Anet is also on the case. Also this is not fixed by any older Nvidia drivers…..so it is hardly fixable in that way.

This is a problem with GW2 specifically and mobile Nvidia gpus since the November Windows 10 update; it actually started after a Gw2 patch though. Solution to get your game running for now is either to a) play without vsync or b) play in Windows 7 compatibility mode (even if you have never had Windows 7).

NO Nvidia driver will work, as repairing the game, reinstalling windows and any other fixes will work. This is something that I feel needs to be sorted out by all 3 parties, but despite numerous threads and bumps from myself Anet has stayed very quiet as usual and done nothing. I’m not blaming Anet entirely but this happens in ONE GAME. Which is Guild wars 2. They need to do something about it and for me they are doing their best to hide it. Telling their support staff to say “The game doesnt run well with Windows 10” (which it does….just not on this hardware config) and denying there is this problem is not a good look.

To be clear, there is no rolling back solution to a driver that works for this problem. It will continue regardless and has to be fixed at developer level. There is no problem for AMD laptop users; Nvidia/AMD desktop users.
