Guild chat still bugged

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Nilas.2605

When guild chat was bugged a few days ago, I did the trick where you change your social status to “invisible” then back to “online” and it worked. But now it seems that I am the only one who still has the bug, and the trick doesn’t work anymore.

Can I do anything to change it, and are the devs working to fix it?

Re-enter Fractal after patch

Nilas.2605

While we were inside a fractal, a game updated occurred. Later on, a player re-logged to repair, but couldn’t get back in the Fractal afterwards because of the patch. Is there anything we could have done to get him back in? (We tried kicking and re-inviting him, but that didn’t seem to work).

If there’s no solution, it’s really one of those bugs that I would hope the bug-fix team would have prioritized. It doesn’t affect many players, but when it does, it causes a huge waste of time, as well as a lack of will to do Fractals in the future.

Turret Tequatl bug

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Nilas.2605

This is a pretty old bug. I haven’t seen it a lot recently, so I thought it may have been fixed, but got it again today.

Sometimes, the turret on Tequatl just stop working temporarily. You can still use the abilities, but nothing happens, the turret doesn’t fire. Whenever this happen, I usually go off the turret and cast a few abilities, in case it may help, but I have no idea if it actually does. After a little while, the turret functions again.
This is really frustrating, especially because people may think I’m AFK if I just stay at the turret, or steal it from me if I try to go off it for a bit.

Mouse keybindings don't work after patch

Every single time I enter the game after patch download, my mouse keybinds never work. I have to restart the game to make them work again. Any ideas what could be causing this?

I am using a Steelseries mouse designed for WoW. I guess I should note that it has a weird issue where some of the mouse keys are inexplicable bound to various letters (for example “mouse button 7” is bound to “g”). I don’t know if this is related.

While I appreciate the bonus, I don’t understand why you have to hide this information on the forum. If you can’t include it in-game without a full patch, at least put it on the launcher or the website frontpage. Also, what the actual bonus is would be nice to know.

Can't re-join fractal after patch

I was just doing a Fractal when the newest patch update hit. When I was about to kill the last boss in a Fractal when I disconnected. Of course, I couldn’t log back on without downloading the update, and when I got back on, I couldn’t re-join the fractal. I know this is probably not going to get fixed, but I still wanted to share my tears.

Nilas.2605

Regardless of whether it’s permanent or not, I’d like a date for how long this part of the LS is going to last. Seriously, if the next 3 parts have already been planned, is there any reason to withhold this information? As usual we are left in the dark on this question. Is there a lack of communication between game designers and community managers?

Since this is the way they choose to design it, the achievement-designers should at least have included this rather vital information in the achievement description.

It's time to do away with Overflow.

Comparing it to mass-scale multiplayer games like PlanetSide seems a bit unfair since I (without having played it) am going to assume that PlanetSide takes place on huge battlegrounds where the players are split out in several factions rather than fighting on the same small location.
Big events like Tequatl or Marionette is already tough for PCs that aren’t top-tier, but even if that weren’t an issue, having hundreds of players right on top of each other would be still be weird.

I certainly agree that the overflow system is getting old. An MMO is supposed to immerse the player in a virtual world. By that definition, I would say that every time you arrive in an overflow, it means the game messed up. It is refreshing to have an MMO that integrates its bosses in the actual world rather than just putting them inside an instance (which is usually twenty times larger on the inside than outside). But it is paradoxal that the overflows means that they are pretty much instanced anyway.
Overflows are unavoidable when the game released or when new content arrives. But it is rather annoying that I am still seeing overflows for Teq. We can only hope that the overflows for Marionette will get better when everything calms down.

Let's fix Elites

While I guess we should be grateful that the FGS and its “Ability 4 without target against wall” makes us more desirable for dungeons, I am personally quite bothered that it exist. It’s truly silly that you have to “exploit” a skill/weapon to optimise it’s effect, but again, that is just a drop in an ocean of bugs.

Tornado is really cool which is why I think it deserves a buff, More damage would be obvious, and maybe better debuffs as well or protection for your allies.
Even cooler: Replace the boring “pick one out of 3 abilities” actionbar with a new 5-skill actionbar, so you can actively play as a Tornado. Example:

1. Strike the area with a lightning bolt (X damage, vulnerability)
2. Blind nearby enemies (Blindness)
3. Knockback your target with a windblast
4. Grant swiftness to allies and cripple enemies
5. Unleash a storm to damage and fumble enemies

PvP bug - can't move

Sometimes I get a bug in PvP where I can’t move or dodge. It’s not due to a condition, and I’ve only noticed it in PvP. It usually happens for 5-10 seconds, but I just had it happen for about a 30-60 seconds. What can cause this?

GW2 Christmas songs

I love the Tequatl one!

I’d love the Twilight one too if you didn’t use “gay” as a pejorative Maybe “dumb” would scan well enough as an alternate?

I feel it’s important to point out that I only used “gay” as a joke based on the fact that pink unicorns could be stereotypically interpreted as “gay”.
I personally think The Dreamer is a cool weapon, and I certainly didn’t mean to have a go at gay people.

GW2 Christmas songs

in A Very Merry Wintersday

Nilas.2605

I came up with a few GW2 Christmas/Wintersday songs based on popular Christmas songs. Enjoy, and have a happy holiday!

Tequatl is going to spawn
(based on “Santa Claus is coming to town”)

You better watch out
Not be AFK
Commanders shout:
“Just stack up, okay?”
Tequatl is going to spawn!

He summons undead
A big wall of bones
We attack it with sword, spell and bow
Tequatl is going to spawn!

He knocks you down with big waves
He slaps you with his tail
He drowns you in the muddy depths
So get up, no time to fail!
Oi! You better watch out
Not be AFK
Commanders shout:
“Just stack up, okay?”
Tequatl is going to spawn!

I’m dreaming of the sword Twilight
(based on “I’m dreaming of a white Christmas”)

I’m dreaming of the sword Twilight
Just like the ones all my friends own
A sword that glows all black
Equipped on my back
Unlike that gay unicorn bow

I’m dreaming of the sword Twilight
With every centaur I kill
I know for sure I have the will
I’ll stand proudly in LA and chill

I’m dreaming of the sword Twilight
With every dredge bag I pick up
I’ll make all you haters shut up
With Twilight I’ll kick you in the butt

Claw of Jormag = Clawmag

in Dynamic Events

Posted by: Nilas.2605

Nilas.2605

Most players refer to the Claw of Jormag simply as “Jormag” as it’s shorter and faster to type. However, you will hopefully be aware that the real Jormag is an Elder Dragon, so far unseen, making this world boss one of his lieutenants (or “Claws”).
In other words, the costs of saving the time to type 6 extra letters when talking about the world boss in chat is to call him a technically inaccurate name. Not a huge deal, right? Certainly not, but I have an elegant solution:

Claw of Jormag: Clawmag.
It is almost as short as “Jormag”, it sounds good, it looks good. If you hear some lore-nerd say “Dude, it’s actually not Jormag!”, you can say “No, it’s Clawmag!”. Let’s make it a thing.

April Fools: "Mystic Toilet"

As we all know, many players jokingly refer to the Mystic Forge as the “Mystic Toilet” due to the fact that it often feels like you’re “flushing out” items when trying to, for example, acquire a precursor.

My idea: For next April Fools day, have the forge literally transform into a huge toilet (just like it changes appearance during Halloween/Wintersday)! It might be a bit weird, but I feel most players will get the joke (or be told by their guildies).
Additionally, have the forge make a “flushing sound” every time you use it. Would be quite hilarious, I imagine.

How Long Will the Achievements Be Available

Considering that the next Living Story update will also deal with the Nightmare Tower, it would make no sense for the current achievements to disappear.

Also, the new daily achievements does not contain a Halloween achievement, but they do have one for Tower of Nightmares. I consider this “proof.”

Arah change to stop sales of group-spots

Nilas.2605

Oh snap, when I wrote “last boss” in the original post, I was refering to Simin, the Dwayan priestess, not the actual last boss. I didn’t do the reserach well enough, GW2wiki made it look like Simin was the last boss when you skimmed through it.

Anyway, I just finished the Arah P4 in a pug (except for last boss because I got kicked out due to leader being kicked/leaving), and while it lasted 3+ hours it wasn’t as bad as I could have feared. I still think my pre-doing-P4 remains valid, though (but the frankly idiotic system where entire group gets kicked if leader is a reason by itself. I just experienced that myself).

Fragment, I don’t know how spot-selling worked in GW1, but surely you would only pay for it in GW2 to get the achievement without doing the dungeon. That can in no way be seen as beneficial for the dungeon-community, and as I think, is a sign some dungeons could use a revamp.

Thanks for the replies and advice. But I’m afraid you guys misunderstoood my main point. Sorry if it came accross as whiny, but it wasn’t about me personality or my own experiences. I don’t think I’ve even ever attempted Arah P4, and I don’t know if it is as tough as the hype. I’m perfectly okay with spending several hours learning the bosses.
When I said “it is my understanding that the hardest part is the last boss” I was basing it on a quote from the wiki, having never seen the boss myself.

My problem: It bothers me that spot-selling exists. I don’t want to look at it in my LFG, like I don’t want to look at goldspamming in chat.
The fact that people are selling spots (on all servers, I assume) is by itself evidence of a problem with the dungeon. You don’t think it’s too difficult or long? Fair enough, but maybe it isn’t fun enough. I realize that many of the people who are buying themselves in are bad players who can’t be kitten d to even find a guild group, but it’s still the sympton of an issue. Besides, considering that it’s hard to find people even in a big guild shows that people don’t think that it is worth the hazzle. So instead of saying “nerf” (like my first suggestion), maybe a better question is “What can encourage people to do the dungeon with their guilds?”

[Merged] Think "Mounts" outside the box!

in Suggestions

Posted by: Nilas.2605

Nilas.2605

While I think that the game has no need for mounts in the traditional sense (like in WoW, where there’s hundreds, you summon them in 1½ second and they function like a baisc speed-buff), I think that they could be an interesting addition to the games, especially for WvW. I think having them function like a vehicle (like in real life) with limiations would be a good start. One option is to have each region in the game have its own style of mount, approraite for the climate/geography of the zone.

Arah change to stop sales of group-spots

Nilas.2605

Despite having played the game for long, I am one of those players who haven’t got “Dungeon Master” yet, partially because my guild (and most guild, I imagine) almost never runs the harder/longer dungeon paths. The most infamous of these is of course Arah P4. Thanks to the LFG-finder, it should now be easier to find groups. But when I look for Arah groups, half of the entries are usually groups selling spots (not only to P4).
This is in my opinion an anti-social problem that hurts the game community. While some might think it should be punishable and others don’t, it is obvious that it’s a sympton caused by parts of Arah being too long and difficult for many players. Especially considering that you can get kicked before the final boss if the leader leaves group (which is a problem I put in another topic).

My suggestion is a change to either Arah (specifically P4), or even to the entire dungeon system. It doesn’t have to be a complete redesign, but just enough for players to find an average group that, if competent, can completely the dungeon within an hour or two. thus eliminating sales of group-spots. I am not familiar enough with the dungeon to have a specific change in mind, but I have a few suggestions:

1. Nerf Arah P4 last boss (EDIT: SIMIN, NOT THE LAST BOSS!
It is my understanding that the hardest part of Arah P4 is the last boss. While it makes sense for this boss to be the hardest in the game, a simple nerf seems like a reasonable option, considering that many players are willing to pay for others to kill it for them. This could by itself eliminate the problem with spot-selling. Any change that stops this problem is a good change in my opinion.

2. Difficulty options (or “pug vs guild group”
Another option is to allow players to choose between two or more difficulties for either bosses or even entire dungeons. In that way, your average PUG could complete the easy bosses for a normal reward, while experienced guild groups could do the harder versions for better rewards. This is of course a freature that many other MMOs have, and one that could potentially increase the challenge and enjoyment of the game for both casual and hardcore players. It could be done with a single boss/dungeon initially, and potentially expanded afterwards.

3. Arah trash change
Another basic problem I have with Arah in general is that half of the time have been spent running past trash (which in my few experiences usually ends with the group being split and trying to run past trash by themselves). It’s fair enough to use invisibility to run past a few groups, but up to half of the dungeons (in my experiences) is often spent running past trash. Simply reducing/nerfing the trash or changing the positions/pace could make the dungeon flow better. Also, more WPs.

4. Rewards appropriate to dungeon difficulty
One way of encouaring players to run more difficult/long paths is to have the rewards be proportionate to the difficulty of the path. CoF P1 is probably the most popular of all paths because it’s so fast/easy, so having a path that’s three times a long give three times the reward sounds reasonable.

Finally, an in-game calender (or “guild dungeon coordinator”) that allows guild members to arrange their own events/dungeons could make it easier to arrange guild-events. Of course, since most guilds have their own websites, this is not vitally missing, but it could still make things easier.

Group kick from instance when leader leaves

in Suggestions

Posted by: Nilas.2605

Nilas.2605

This is not really a suggestion, but rather a complaint about something that I’m certain has been brought up a hundred times since launch, although I am not aware of the devs response:
Is there ANY reason at all why the entire group gets kicked of an instance when the leader quits?

I know that GW2 is trying to be different from other MMOs, but this has not been a problem in WoW for 10 friggin’ years. And it is even made worse when you consider that the “leader” is just the player who arbitrarily enters the dungeon first.
Besides, I’ve been told that it’s caused by the fact that dungeons are based on the same system as the personal story instances (where it’s obvious who’s the leader). In other words, flawed game design that can be fixed.

I just spent an hour in CoF P3, finally defeating the Charr-ambush. For 2 seconds, endorphines rush through my body, before being replaced by annoynce when the loading screen pops up, and it turns out the leader’s quit for some reason.

In essense, it’s not about increasing the enjoyment of the game, but about preventing players from wasting their time.
