Server – Yak’s Bend
(edited by Nodo.6907)
The new map is absolutely beautiful in terms of looks and mechanics. I enjoyed the terrain, even though I did take some damage while walking which reminded me of the old days when you’d just die randomly. The bugged skills for necro that were fixed on live, were still bugged for this test.
The choke points are every where and the different levels of elevation are amazing. I’ve read some of the comments so far on the board and I disagree with the ones saying roamers will have a hard time here. This map felt very big and no blob is going to come after the small havok groups.
That being said, that’s what seems like could be a strong point for this map, the lay out. A big concern for a lot of people are blobs and the fact that not all servers have one. This map seems to take that into consideration with the different objectives you can do to help your server out and I appreciated that.
Our group came organized and ready to fight/test but unfortunately there wasn’t much opposition which made the stress test feel more like a PvE fest and K-Train. That’s fine because we got to check out many different things and had a great time with it. I would have had liked to have had more fights over the objectives and see what all the terrain has to offer but maybe next test, if there is one.
I know our team came out organized and probably too prepared but it was explained to us to be ready for fights, I guess we took it too seriously but I feel those who didn’t make it into this beta and those wanting the best out of the new map deserved a fair test. Having people swap servers during the test was not the right call from those invited to this beta. This was a stress test on the new WvWvW map that LOTS of people have been anxiously waiting for after all this time. I get that people wanted to explore the map but I believe our mentality was trying to put this map to the test. Some of those who were invited will be the same ones complaining later on but how can criticism be had when people were so quick to give up and log off or swap servers?
After wiping the opposing teams just a few times we realized that there was not going to be opposition, never saw a group of red again because people were swapping servers at this time(30-40 mins into this thing), and so we explored every part of the map. There is a lot out there to see and again, it looks amazing.
The buffs you receive are interesting, especially being immune to fall damage as a server. With how elevated you can be at times, this buff is fun The lava dogs, or whatever they are, could probably be toned down a notch but it’s hard to say since there wasn’t many to fight or use it against. The lava portals and stealth mechanics were cool too. Upon entering our first fight, our enemy was in stealth and got the jump on us pretty good. You could really see the potential there for some fun happenings. I did not care for the wind turrets but I enjoy the mechanic they bring.
It was an honor to be invited to help test the future WvWvW map for GW2.
We all were there to explore and have fun. I know our group did just that but the lack of interaction with opposition overall was a bit of a shame. Being allowed to swap servers seems to have under minded the work that ANet put into this and I found that to be silly. Again, this was a stress test…
As far as a stress test goes, I thought it went really well. Nicely done all around to the ANet devs involved. It was a lot of fun getting to discuss the map with you all.

All I can say is don’t watch or try and start streaming yourself and get a following…
I say props to all three broadcasters for putting on a show for everyone who didn’t get to make it in there.
Not even touching the “unprofessional” comment because Dark summed it up well enough. All Reya could do was ask people to be respectful but she can’t actually control the people.
As one of those in this “unprofessional” channel, we had lots of fun and I think the chatter and staying to the end on the server appointed to us shows that.
Sorry you were offended by watching it.
I was leveled up to 80 instantly. There wasn’t a need to click the level up rewards as it was a beta test.
I was set up under 10 mins so to me, this complaint wasn’t accurate and felt the need to comment on it.
I saw mesmers with Torch too so not sure why or how you didn’t receive all your weapons that you needed. As a Necro, all weapons were given to me…
Great work ANet team!
I agree, the major cities should have been left alone. I don’t agree that server identity is limited to only WvWvW either as one poster wrote. Mega servers are good on paper but I do think they haven’t been implemented well so far.
I would rather have seen it on a server basis for their roll out plan, not just by zones. The most populated servers didn’t really need any merger through this system. I can see it beneficial for servers with lower populations but I do think spanning it across all servers immediately was a bad idea(just my opinion).

LOL at those who demand a “ty” for rezzing others. I honestly don’t want anyone to say “ty” because then I feel the need to say “yw”. I know they are thankful(and if they aren’t then w/e)..no reason to be reassured imo. Even in the times I go out of my way to revive a downed player, it’s to help them out not to be reassured I’m doing a nice thing.
That being said, I spend a lot of time rezzing people(and not for the “ty”) during these zerg events only to see them go down again and again and again. There is no repair here in the new LA but people don’t care, they just keep running around the full hour with broken gear.
People go off and do their own thing and get killed only to see a zerg run by and you expect to be rezzed? Most zergs are following a commander and listening to a commander lead them, working as a group. Don’t like dying alone, then join the group.
Granted, I’ve been in a zerg before and been downed and not revived even though I revived the guy next to me 4 times prior to and he is the reason I am now down. However, accusing the entire community of this one persons action isn’t justified. I WP, brush myself off, and keep playing…
This subject title reminds me of a news headline where only bad things are reported and discussed. I see plenty of people going out of their way to revive people all of the time, myself being one of them.

Not going to quote any one person in this thread but I do see a lot of people use the argument of “play how I want” or “I’m casual and can’t grind the gold to have that piece”
In my mind….a player does NOT need this back piece. Players can still play how they want…they just may not be able to look the way they want. There is a difference. The game, imo, is still 90% casual friendly but there is in fact an aspect of it for those with more time to invest in the game(Legendary weapons and various items that require time). This is where these armor sets and better looking items come from.
A casual player can acquire them but it will take more time, time they apparently do not have. This could be the busy schedule of the individual person or the game limiting how long an event lasts. The only thing I can say about it though is that these items and things people MUST HAVE are not intended for everyone to be wearing. They are incentives for those with more time on their hands or a goal a casual player can shoot for overtime. Sure, it sucks if you do not have the time but it’s not like you HAVE to have it in order to progress further into the game. It’s a vanity piece.
I’m an understanding person and I realize that grinding the items required during the event can pose an issue for those who have plans this week or next etc. And in those situations, there isn’t much that can be done. Events in a game come and go, it’s not a new concept.
I mention my method earlier about grinding the mats needed and crafting later when I can afford it and can spare the gold. Right now, the high cost is an issue for me. In the future it will not be.

If I gather all the main pieces from this event, blade shards and the schem for backpiece…I will be able to craft this in the future right?
I ask only because I do have a 500 tailor but would prefer to level my Leatherworker up and craft it through that way. If I can craft it later, as long as I have the materials from this event stored, that would be great. I don’t need the backpiece now/today/or yesterday but I would like to have it eventually once I wanted to craft it. Currently, I just don’t want to craft it.
as long as you have all the necessary pieces, mats and crafting patterns, then yes. yes you can.
Awesome and thanks for the response. Currently I have tailor to 500 and yes, crafting the back piece through tailoring is steep to me but because things change constantly I’ll just hold off on crafting it till a later date.
In the meantime, I will slowly push another craft up due to price variance on this(and probably future content) but I have plenty of event materials currently and there is still lots of time for gathering extra materials to ensure I have everything needed when it’s no longer available. I really don’t care if I have the back piece first or even soon.
I view it as a lesson learned and something else to strive for. I have all crafting to 400 on multiple toons just never went higher because wasn’t super interested in doing so before and never really had a reason to want it. Now I do. Thanks again!

What exactly is ATT? Is it an experienced PvE guild from BG or is it another super guild like the Teq ones?
I sent you a PM. I have a bad habit of being long winded and writing walls of text so thought a PM would be better
50 people waited 2 hours and weren’t on TS? That says a lot.
Don’t tell them to show respect when they were the ones organizing everything, paying for food, etc. I don’t know what was said or not said in map chat, but I don’t see the problem with guild and voice comm taking priority when it comes to something like this.
I wanted to join them for a serious attempt and got on TS as soon as I logged into GW2. I’m not even a BG native or [Att] member. I’m just some random person from a world that gave up on the type of content I enjoy. If I could figure out where I needed to be in order to participate in a serious attempt, why couldn’t the 50 people that were left behind on BG?
Everyone did great, but I’d like to say thanks to [Att] for organizing everything and leading us to victory! Being there for a win after all those attempts felt awesome even if I got straight up trash from the chest.
(That first time feeling only happens once. Just putting that out there, Anet. coughs)
And I’d like to take the opportunity to thank you, if you are who I am remembering, for moving from Cobalt to Crimson the time we got the kill even though you really had your heart set on Cobalt.
The decision was made and if you knew about it then you were already listening and ready to help out. There is no real reason for anyone to be upset or trying to sling mud at anyone concerning this topic.
The 3 heads takes coordination and attention from people floating in and out of the zone and if some choose to not be in TS there isn’t much you can do about it. The TS info is spammed constantly and is impossible to miss. For those who waited 2+ hours and then felt abandoned….I don’t know how anyone can respond to that logically. If you are waiting for 2+ hours to have people lead you through something like this then why not work with them rather than oppose what they are asking of you? I’ll add that this was a guild run, not a Blackgate run.
Att is not just a Blackgate guild, it just came together on Blackgate after the initial Wurm kill by the startup folks who had been together all week. Any server is open to be chosen before a designated run, not just Blackgate.

To the students,
I am a fellow student and if you are like me you are relatively inexperienced inside of most dungeons. Since we do not have an official forum set up for this guild, if it’s needed I could look into throwing one together, I am posting here in hopes of gathering interested people who might want to spend some time dungeon hopping for an hour or two this weekend.
Depending on the responses received, I would like to go into some dungeons over this upcoming weekend for more experience and somewhat of a community builder. Please be aware I am not a mentor, but a student. If any mentors are online over the weekend and willing to go, I’d love to that too but seeing as how a lot of the mentors have outside guilds and their own speed runs I believe it is up to us, students, to also put forth some effort in on our own.
If you are interested and have availability, simply send me a PM through the forums and I will construct a listing of interested/available people and work on trying to set up some teams with specified play times of students.
Very good. I must have misinterpreted, but still what I said stands for anyone coming in xD.
Once you have demonstrated your ability to do the dungeons you will be promoted to “Graduate” and then as you find your niche you can become a mentor (there are different ranks, like meta mentor, general mentor, Arah mentor). These will help distinguish what you are best at teaching.
Haha yeah, after re-reading what I wrote I can see how it could be interpreted as you did. My fault :P
I just meant in random groups, which is about all the experience I’ve ever had. I think all joining up with this guild would have an understanding and respect for one another because this guild has a purpose and goal in mind upon signing up.
Again, I look forward to being a part of this and being shown some things. Great idea and I appreciate those putting it together and the mentors time.
Hi, please consider me for this and invite me when you can. I have very little experience in the dungeons and would love to be mentored in a group setting. Also, I think some of us students could get together in the off hours to work on things ourselves without the pressures of LFG tool and expectations of others!
An invite will be sent.
As a note, I just wanted to clarify, as mentors (most of us) we aren’t going to have super huge expectations of our students initially and I personally hope that no mentee feels like they are being picked on or pressured in any teaching group. I don’t think that will ever be the case in this initiative, so I hope no ones feels like that might happen.
Thanks, I look forward to seeing you all online this week. For clarity sake, what I meant by expectations of others was meant outside of this guild in random PUG groups. As it is now, I’m not big in going into PUG groups because I honestly don’t know much about the dungeons I am going in too.
Once that newness fades away it would not be an issue to me. Also, after I become more comfortable in running certain dungeons, I’d be happy to do some mentoring myself but that is future plans Thanks again for the consideration and invite.

To me, this makes this an ideal situation guild to be a part of, knowing ahead of time what a lot of the players status is in the beginning.
Look forward to being in this guild!
Great thread and is perfect for a player like me. I’m one of those on again off again GW2 players. I came back to the game 3 months ago and finally feel like it’s beginning to sync in with me and I am enjoying it all very much.
The one thing I do not do, currently, is dungeons. I’ve done CoF 1 and 3, HoTW 1, AC 1 and 3 but that is it. I consider myself an extra in these runs but I had a friend of mine lead me through them. However, that doesn’t really help control the other 3 people who get on the team…so needless to say I just gave up on dungeoning since I wasn’t really learning anything in them other than where to place my portal. What do I want to learn you wonder? Things you can’t learn in the open world dynamic events such as the importance of stacking might, best combos to use and small explanation of why(like not placing light field while might stacking), and which builds to use, etc.
Am I an elitest? Far from it but in any game I’ve played before I’ve always been min/maxed and on top of my game. In GW2, however, I don’t quite feel there yet. I find it more difficult to see ones full potential out in the open world (unless soloing champs and oddities of the sorts) vs an instanced group setting. Sure, in open world, I can play how I want and who even notices but in an instanced setting it becomes more apparent.
I have steered clear of dungeons as I see them as extra content that I don’t care if I do or not because I enjoy a lot of other aspects to this game. However, I do feel like I am neutering myself and experience by not doing them.
I wanted to post here because I was contacted by someone here at random about dungeons and it led me to this post. What you all have here or are trying to form here, is awesome for the dungeon community. You see the same thing popping up with guilds like TTS, TxS, and Att where they come together with an understanding that we all want the same thing, to win.
Sometimes this means altering your play style and builds to build synergy with the other classes on your team. I find this extremely fun and worth anyone’s time as it helps to better your own performance all around. Everyone is entitled to play how you want but when playing with others I think it is important to work together as was intended.

It’s mostly an Overflow thing @locoman
Very well written OP! Love every bit of it!
I am also going to start going over to Borlis Pass, and start trying to get the wurm killed there. Come and join me there!
I’d be interested in that Librari! I’d be happy to join your quest in getting your server more interested and coordinated. Still doesn’t mean you can back out of that transfer
Just message me if you cereal!
Second thought….idk haha!

BG natives vs guests? No one who was there last night, or who had been there consistently over the past week, would ever think of it in such a black and white perspective. Yes, BG was the server it was killed on. If people chose to guest over then that is fine but it doesn’t change the fact that the kill was on BG.
You think we turn away people because they aren’t native to the server? The wurm is a World boss, not a servers boss. People chose Blackgate, because contrary to what everyone says about BG for the lulz, it’s a wonderful server full of dedicated people within the community.
Most guesting had the opposite to say about their own servers so it’s easy to hate on this server if you are not from here and couldn’t be a part of any of it. I’ve read many posts complaining about how this encounter is too difficult for the average server and I am in agreement.
This is even true for BG to an extent. After our kill we made another attempt for fun but failed. Everyone was pretty ecstatic over our original kill, we barely even set back up for the next one. After we failed the next attempt, most decided to call it for the night. However, I came back for the next run. Not only was it an awful attempt, the map chat was extremely vile. People demanding free food buffs, being negative nancy because the only comanders tagged up didn’t know what to do, people were opposing TS…basically a typical day in GW2 world boss fighting zones just along for AP and auto attack like they do for all other world content.
Their strat? To burn down 1-2 heads for AP but not actually getting a kill. So from the start, they were set up to fail and by their own choice by not organizing as a zone. Who would want to be a part of that? AP junkies…the game is full of them.
Seeing as how I had left the zone for an hour and came back without hitting overflow, I knew the run wouldn’t be successful.
My point is, the boss was downed on BG but it took everyone to make it happen. This includes commanders leading and people respectfully listening, where you are from isn’t of any concern. The problem is most full zones will never achieve that type of coordination. It really is a shame because it’s worth it to me but it’s not to everyone. It has, by far, been the BEST thing I’ve been apart of in GW2. I’m actually somewhat sad that it is over because of the excitement I had there and the people I met.
Anyways, thanks again to all of those who made this happen. Never in my wildest dreams did I expect people to come crashing in here to nit pick…

Congratulations to everyone! Great job!
Meanwhile, my attempt at taking a group picture was photobombed by some adorable pink creature. :P
Lol, awesome photo!
Great time with awesome players. Thanks for sticking with it everyone!
-Facepalm-
If another person suggests stealth just please don’t…
I’m not an idiot, I know how to play the game. What I am saying is that the game should be designed better than it presently is. If you can’t actually be bothered reading what I’ve said previously then I can’t be bothered reading your response.
-Facepalm-
You suggest the game to be re-designed so you can compete Group events by yourself. You expect all maps to be soloable and even though they are(excluding POI and Vistas behind walls in WvWvW that your server needs to control), you make a post asking them to be redesigned. You continue to play a game for over a year yet you do not like it’s design and will not take advantage of the “work arounds” (which are there to help solo artists and the dead servers keep playing). You play a game for a year and are unable to complete Orr in that time. Why? Because you refuse to accept it’s not as easy as Queensdale? You can’t be bothered by reading responses from a community trying to help yet you post a wall of text complaining about how you can’t do something in game when you, as a player, take pride in solo competition stuff.
Btw, no one is calling you an idiot….people are only trying to help because the likelihood of your suggestion happening is slim to none. For your sake, and the sake of those who are unable to get past these “stop signs”, I hope they will consider your suggestion. From what I am understanding with the direction they are going, a dev has stated they are trying to raise the bar on players https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/livingworld/madness/Well-I-defended-these-new-events-at-first/page/5#post3559127 in hopes that future content will be involving and not always just easy content like what is in game currently.
I, for one, hope that they do take it in that direction. Best of luck to you.

I bought a TV one time that was HD and large…now they have new ones that are thinner with a better picture for cheaper than what I paid originally for my TV in the past but I don’t feel entitled for a refund or an updated TV.
Using the examples, why do so many people feel they deserve a refund or an update to their existing pick? Please no trolling or flaming, I am just curious on the communities thought on that.
Would you feel cheated if when you bought your TV, you bought so under the assumption that all future TVs would only have a different color frame, rather than improved capabilities, and your TV would be the best TV on the market?
Honestly, what I assume when purchasing something is that there is always something better on it’s way out unless I was told otherwise and that things would never change by the one making the sell. Someone earlier also said that they bought the original ones with the understanding they would never be altered.
I’m in agreement, they should not have been altered and now that they have I think the solution would be to upgrade the existing ones. However, did they really ever say that was the case about them never changing? My question was mainly wondering why people would expect a refund or upgrade to their existing ones in the first place?
Also, why wouldn’t Anet have done that to begin with to avoid the uproar that it was bound to cause upon its release?
(edited by Nodo.6907)
Then, if you haven’t completed your story yet, you will have an issue with the end of the game because Spoiler Alert the last mission requires you to group up with others for SM Arah so yea….I wasn’t too thrilled about it myself first time through but still completed it and second time through it wasn’t an issue.
Also, word of advice, you mentioned in a post that the ones near statues have AOE hitting you etc, you can guest to another server where the temple is OPEN and these AOEs shouldn’t’ be activated. There will still be some mob action but nothing like what you are describing. http://www.gw2state.com/temples.html
The Champs guarding the SP, yea that is still there. I was able to do Orr solo on my second lvl 80 toon but not my first lvl 80 one and they are both mesmers. You mention you are squishy in comparison to a Warrior…well I am your squishy counterpart and have successfully done Orr so I know you can too. Get crafty, experiment with your build and utilities and I honestly think you’ll get it done. You seek self accomplishment? Well, Orr will give you that.
Point is, I learned more about my play style and about my advantages over time. If you are unable to access these SPs then think about other ways to approach it and hopefully one of your skills will help you. Kite mobs off, slow them, and using your fiery greatsword, try to rush back to SP and LOS if possible, for example.
Got any useful signets you can use to avoid damage or stun a foe approaching you in order to buy yourself an extra second if you need? If you use your skills to your advantage, you will get Orr complete I truthfully do believe. If all else fails, when you guest to a server where the temple is complete, odds are you will have people doing the same thing you are and can probably work with them. Doesn’t mean you have to group but if I see a guy eyeballing a SP, and knowing how tough and frustrating they can be, I’ll offer help. If you want to go at it alone, then by all means do it and you can be successful as well.
You obviously know, because you had to repeat yourself…Orr is end game zone. The higher tiered nodes and temples are there. Tough foes and mobs await your crossing of the shore, therefore it makes sense that the zone is a little more demanding in regards to solo play than any previous zone.
(edited by Nodo.6907)
Even ignoring the pay-to-win issue, this discourages players from buying because we now have confirmation of power creep so surely the next item will do even more.
And this is where I am currently. I have been looking forward to purchasing an infinite use set of tools as I didn’t pick any up previously. With this addition to the tool, I don’t really want to get this one now because I don’t care about sprockets myself and believe they will continue on with doing it. Before today, that thought never crossed my mind and because I now have that thought I’m hesitant on buying before seeing what becomes the new norm in this game.
Maybe there will be an addition to one of the “future” tools coming out that I’d rather have and with that in mind, it prevents me from wanting to purchase this one or any in this series. Thus, I wait…because all couldn’t remain fair and even across the board…so everyone would be happy.

While I won’t comment on whether or not I think this is P2W, do people really feel entitled to a refund for their previous purchases and if so why?
I bought a TV one time that was HD and large…now they have new ones that are thinner with a better picture for cheaper than what I paid originally for my TV in the past but I don’t feel entitled for a refund or an updated TV. I bought the original iPhone for $400 bucks but then soon after they released a new version for $200 and it had 3g and more features so should I be entitled for a full refund or an upgraded version for free?
Using the examples, why do so many people feel they deserve a refund or an update to their existing pick? Please no trolling or flaming, I am just curious on the communities thought on that.
There is no difference between your example and what is going on with the picks. I’d love to see the look on a Best Buy employee’s face if someone went into the store and demanded that their TV be upgraded because a newer one came out a month after they bought it.
There is. A new and better TV takes a lot of money to develop. This pick is just a virtual item which probably took less than 1000 USD to make. And they can make better picks ad infinitivum without it becoming more pricy or being limited by physics.
I seriously doubt you know the costs involved in manufacturing a Projection style TV versus an LCD Flat screen(if you do more power to you) but truth be told, the example I used covered people wanting returns on an older item they purchased after they are unhappy with it once a newer one comes out, even if it has an extra feature(s). This was countered very well by a poster already.
But using my iPhone example, did the new one cost $200 less dollars to make 2 months of when I purchased mine? Original iPhone cost $400…my point is that I bought an item when it came out or when I found one I liked and just because a newer one or better one or upgraded version of one comes out doesn’t mean I deserve an upgrade for free.
Honestly, my post wasn’t about the cost of these items, it was about the entitled who feel they deserve a full refund and/or an upgrade to their existing purchases.
By your logic, if this new item did take an hour extra to create versus the old one because of the new ability it has, you’d be okay paying for it and paying extra?
As I said earlier, I’d prefer to see this addition go away myself. I don’t like how they’ve gone about doing it but that’s a different topic to me.

The problem with your analogy is TVs are not infinite use. They have Planned Obsolescence. You know that the TV you buy is built to fail otherwise warranties would not have much value. You know that you will have to replace it some day.
These picks were bought with the understanding that they were the Best in Slot(Orichalcum) AND Infinite use and therefore we would never need to replace them again.
Now we have a new pick that makes our previously purchased pick obsolete. This is the kind of Vertical Progression that so many people expressed negative reactions to in that particular CDI.
BTW I only purchased the Bone Pick 2 months ago. If I am going to have to replace an infinite harvesting tool every 2 months… I call Shenanigans!
Excellent response to my TV analogy. I was hoping my silly example would help me better understand why people are this upset over a new/updated item.
I was not aware that Anet led customers to believe these would always remain BiS, but I think your response sums up what a lot of people are thinking even if they aren’t expressing it well. Are there any threads that point to this statement? I think it would be worth linking in this thread.
That is what I was curious about in respect to this problem within the community. Being a player who has never purchased any of the Infinite Tools, I can’t really express an opinion on this subject or a view, only try and understand why the backlash.
I honestly don’t see why you’d have to replace your tool ever 2 months but we probably have different views on what is important in this game as well.
For the record, I do think this additional perk is unwarranted and not worth putting on the item itself.

A month, no, but 15 days and they would have to by the law of the state I live in
This is just a statement for giggles mostly, I do not actually believe anyone is entitled to a refund of course :p
Well, again I was just curious what people thought about it. You bring up a nice counter argument as does another poster responding to my post up above. My examples weren’t the best but the ones that popped into my head when reading all of this.
As someone posted above me, they had a 90 day return policy using my example. I don’t recall, because I don’t follow the gem store too close, but when was the last mining pick released? If it was recent then an argument is to be somewhat had for those who recently purchased theirs but if it was a while back then it is what it is.
Anyways, I don’t want to get too far out there and there are a lot of good points in this thread for people to comment on so I will just respectfully bow out I’m sure there will be plenty of posts to follow demanding refunds or upgrades to their existing picks and my post was mostly geared towards those thinking they deserve one.
Thanks for those who responded, your answers were great!

The true devoted players are those who are not in big servers with big pve guilds and are considered less compared to big guilds, and yet they still play.
Can you elaborate on what you mean? I don’t quite understand. It sounds like you are saying that the bigger servers do not have devoted players.
Still, I think it’s crazy that it’s necessary a whole overflow with 150 people on TS to beat this kind of bosses. Make them an instance is you want strategy, because now it’s just a big mess.
I can agree to this. It is VERY crazy but also the most fun I’ve had in this game. However, I do hope they work on better implementation of these things in the future. You are right, it’s a pretty big mess!

Congratulations on world first and well done by all of you!!

The only reason I’d want to do this while it’s “hot” is because the majority of the community here only seems to care about what shiny they will get after a fight not the self accomplishment of defeating some of the hardest content the game can throw at you.
I came back WAY after the Teq update but have defeated him multiple times. Yes, I am on BG so throw mud my way. However, unlike a lot of people it’s been my home server since the beginning and to contradict that, I’ve beaten Teq in overflows as well. Not as successful but it happens. I’ve also guested to servers and seen members of TTS there helping out. Just randomly happened but I did see it and that’s why I am all for what these groups or servers are doing.
People keep saying once it’s beaten people “will realize the rewards don’t justify it” but to me that’s a community issue. I doubt guilds like TTS and servers like BG really care what drops off of these bosses. Sure, we fight and hope but if your sole intention of doing these bosses is for loot then they are not for you imo.
I’m on BG and I can assure that that once the novelty wear off, the thing that keeps me coming back (or keeps me from coming back) is the reward.
You are on BG but you are not a “server as a whole”. Meaning, with or without you the server, imo, will continually fight these bosses even after they down them. Sure, you may not come back but others will take your place. There are still OFs on BG for Teq even though people always claim the loot is not worth it. I don’t think all servers have that unfortunately. Thus a guild like TTS was formed and I’m glad players like that exist in this game.

Our server does it for the prestige, community building, and because we enjoy what our server has become. Sure, we fight and hope for the best loot but if your sole intention of doing these bosses is for loot then they are not for you imo.

With the amount of time the event has been live and the amount of guides available that describe the encounter entirely. There really shouldn’t be anyone who doesn’t know what’s going on anymore.
What about those who have not had any free time to log in? Or people who don’t even visit the forums or dulfy?
Not trolling, just stating that not everyone who plays this game can be on every day and every hour or cares to do homework prior to exploring the game. To think of it in this way seems unrealistic to me. Yes, there are guides and people can view them however there are some players who enjoy doing content before actually spoiling it by reading a “How To”. People play games and handle content differently. This game encourages it even if it seems punishing when events fail. You log in and the game tells you to go to this place…it is my opinion that your first time player should not be expected to read up on this encounter.
Afterwards, once they fail more than likely, they will to better understand what was going on. People say this all the time, before going into a dungeon, you should watch a video first. Personally, I will but not because I want to know the ins and outs of a dungeon before actually attempting it…I do it so people don’t get so kitten if I don’t stand exactly where I need to be or if I don’t skip a section in the manner that they do.
I’m not really disagreeing with you. Yes, it has been out for 50 hours now and there are guides already written but I’m pointing out that not every one has it like you or me where we can get on the game nightly or whenever we want. Some people learn through seeing it first then they understand what is being told to them in map chat or in these guides. There are a lot of factors behind an individual person…not always that they just suck
(edited by Nodo.6907)
Nodo I agree totally that in actual map/say chat you should report anyone who is specifically calling names or being rude. What I’m trying to discuss in particular in this thread is the toxicity of the forums, especially in regard to the new LS events. So many places I see absolute insults to others. How about taking some responsibility for your own/your group’s failures? If someone does not know what to do, help them to learn it. Don’t try to pass the failures off to “idiot”, or “lowbie” players “who don’t belong”. ANet designed these events for the community to come together to learn how to beat it, not lay insults and blame on each other for failures.
Agreed, I have a few level 80s but do not believe others should be excluded because they do not have a fully equipped character at max level. On the flip side, this LS story is sort of community driven and requires other players to pay a little more attention than they are used too. That is why I mentioned in my last post as to the WHY people throw out insults. This happens in a lot of games too, not just GW2 of course.
On the contrary, I just don’t understand the justification and reasoning behind doing so when it doesn’t benefit anyone. The benefit to everyone here is to help each other achieve what we all want, understanding mechanics and downing these events.
Sure, let ANet know your opinions and concerns about the content they release but taking it out on the community seems to be a step backwards. Maybe I am gullible, but I do believe devs read these forums more than a lot of games devs and I appreciate their efforts in making GW2 better in the future.
This is only my 2 cents.
I get WHY people insult others for failing on an event but I do not agree with insulting others for failing on a event. Seems to make more sense to work with players after a fail rather than try to one up Map Chat by ripping them a new one.
Insults and put downs don’t appeal to me in RL therefore they don’t appeal to me in a game. All I know is, lashing out over a game is silly business to me. Games used to be about having fun and for me that is still true. I do the min/max route and learn the mechanics of a fight because that IS how I have fun. Some players idea of fun is to grief and troll others. While other players idea of fun is to log in to a virtual environment to escape their personal troubles in the world while relaxing.
Having fun to me does not include trolling other players or insulting them. Regardless, name calling and insults are not going anywhere. Best to realize that and take it into your own hands as a player if it really bothers you.
(edited by Nodo.6907)
Personally, I like the way it is now. It’s not a guaranteed kill and is a fun fight. Individual performance errors are a factor and I understand why people are upset about it, to an extent, but it’s a great fight to be a part of. Yes, we all hate overflows but with lots of people trying this out, I find overflows can be successful too because they are also full, at least during prime time.
Yea, some people don’t know what to do yet…it just came out and trying to follow an explanation in Map Chat can be confusing with 50 people saying different things, overlapping each other and inserting things they forgot out of order. While there are guides online, some gamers want to experience the content on their own first and I don’t blame them. I do not think they should change the fight though, especially since it’s a limited time only kind of thing and it’s been downed by many servers and overflows.
I’m conflicted because I know how bad waiting around and putting extra effort into a boss can be for some types of gamers, people have more responsibility in their lives or previous engagements….not all can be on all day. A lot of people want to log on, do the LS in a day and be done…only to go back to grinding or whatever else they may do when their LS is done.
For me, I love this addition to the game and I welcome hard content that can’t be done within an hour. My favorite gaming moments and victories come from working at something and improving my personal game play to defeat the boss. While this event does rely on A LOT of other people to do their part, it’s a game and a community. I cheer on the other platforms when ours is done, but even my first time in I was not as aware as I am now.
Sorry to read all of the posts of people having issues with it and even though I do think there are improvements ANet can learn from this, I have really enjoyed the encounter and this release of LS.
I saw this thread, and knew I had to go back to that instance to do this!
Lol, nice.
I had a super epic encounter last night where everyone in my champion ring died except for me almost immediately (we were fighting the shrieker). Then, I went on to solo the boss, killing it with 20 seconds to spare, and managed to finish off the power regulator with less than a half-second remaining on the clock. All of this was happening to the cheers in /say chat from the viewers, stunned that a Necromancer of all things soloed the boss and ultimately broke the chain. We went on to win the whole thing because of that success (we had no failures allowed left before bar filled), and it made me swell with pride to think that not only had I achieved something truly great and not only had I benefited about 100 other people, but that a group of them watched it in disbelief and cheered me on. It was nerve-wracking and absolutely unforgettably amazing.
It’s moments like these that I remember forever, and for that, I thank ANet for making such an amazing and awesome fight where I could show off my personal skill and make a difference for everyone.
I had a very similar encounter like this myself last night. It was awesome! I am enjoying the new content. I would like to do some of this with my server rather than OF but it’s alright to me. OF is capable of doing it too at this point and I hate it for those who don’t give OF a chance. Ya, it’s not ideal but it can be done…I’ll be the first to admit OF populations tend to disrespect one another more often than not but at least the last two days I’ve gotten into some decent OF populations. It won’t last I’m sure

What I am searching for:
I am looking for people accepting of a beginner to dungeon runs even though I don’t care if I do many dungeons or not at this point. I would like to be able to do them some day down the road without being yelled at while learning the run. I’ve completed a few of them but would be happy to learn the others and actually learn what I’m doing there in a group setting, so far I’ve only PUG’d them.
I am also looking for guild missions and some form of activity within a guild, though it doesn’t have to be daily or even constantly. I would like find a guild where people enjoy being a part of that guild and enjoy each others presence. Tbh, I don’t mind running solo a lot of the time myself and I actually enjoy it to an extent but thought I’d try to find a guild for this game.
Feel free to leave recruitment links and website links here so that I can review them. To people who have reached out in the past, I’ll also give you another look. Thanks in advance!

Could recruiting Blackgate guilds post here? Not looking for other server guilds to post in this particular thread. Mostly looking or a consolidation of guilds recruiting on Blackgate. I see some spread out and was hoping to put the ones currently recruiting all into one thread if possible. Thanks!
why do you have $75 of gem codes if you dont have the game? actually it doesnt matter haha. But no, you cannot buy the game like that. I am pretty sure there is no plan to introduce that option any time soon. I assume it would be like a free trial client that allowed you to “upgrade” to the fully paid version with gems, but as far as I know, no plans to implement that system or change the one in place.
Although, (not totally sure if this is ok to do, but I cannot see why it wouldnt) you could get someone to buy a copy of the game and give you the login info (which they set for you, you can change the password and make it your own easy enough), and you give them some gems for that, that could work I suppose, not sure how you would set it up though, maybe a mate or someone who plays the game that you know.
The OP is asking the question because they want to buy the game for someone….not themselves. Your response, however, is most comical.
I wouldn’t count random low level guy like you that you meet in guild chat and lends a hand as help.
Just curious, then what would you classify as help then?.
I see the advice given as an underlining awareness one player was pointing out to another about joining guilds who claim to “have it all”.
However, the OP is not asking for a guild anyways so these comments are irrelevant to his original post. He is merely looking for people to play with so he/she isn’t so bored while experiencing guild wars. I’m sure they could care less about where their “influence” even go at this point.

I like you guys!
Okay, so I tested it out. I dropped it for my friend who is lvl 21 and it did scale down for him to 10% MF instead of 30%
@ Nodo: Did your friend get 100% of the food’s effect or a scaled down version?
I just asked him and it’s been awhile for him but he says he does remember getting the affect but when I asked him about it downscaling he did not know. I’d be happy to test this tonight though. I have lots of trays stocked up and can report back here if you two are interested in the final result without having to do it yourself.
@Yoroiookami you mentioned Queensdale…if you’d like to meet up in a few hours(I get off work in about an hour then going to eat dinner) for a quick test, I’ll bring the food!!
@Seras Welcome to come too of course and if I don’t hear back from either of you, I may still head to Queensdale anyways and feed some peeps for a definite answer!
Just let me know
(edited by Nodo.6907)
I can’t say with 100% sureness but I put down a tray in FGS and my friend, who was not level 80, said he was able to eat from the tray whereas he was unable to consume individual Omnomberry Bars I had given him prior to that.
The reason I say I’m not 100% sure is because it was not my own personal experience but through word of mouth. I don’t recall confirming it by checking out his bars to see. Good luck!
