S/F buffs, and why we need them

Lucadiro is a great ele (Para?), he knows what he is talking about, so do I. I have to learn to dodge a 0,25 second skill (which I know how to). A good gamer reflex is 0,1-0,2 seconds. Taking ping into equation, do you think headbut is a fair skill?

Fighting warriors, my camera is turned 180 degrees always, while warrior is chasing me until he dies. The thing is, a good warrior will always dodge Phoenixes, the highest burst damage skill an s/f ele has. The other thing is, a warrior can tank multiple Phoenixes which makes the class highly rewarding and s/f ele not so rewarding (how much do you have to kite to be called a kitten by every warrior and their mothers?). Add to this, Marauder amulet barely does damage to warriors, I have to go zerker amulet in hopes of killing them (I take more damage with marauder from retaliation than I do damage). It doesn’t matter how perfectly I play, one misstep on my side and I am dead, even when I dodged every skill possible before, one 0,25 second skill can turn the tide, while I can hit every phoenix and the warrior will still have plenty of sustain to mitigate + heal the damage.

Warriors ask me why I climb sides during 1v1’s, they walk away from the duel and tell me ’’I’m not going to fight a runner’’, while kiting is art itself.

I agree with Lucadiro, I am not experienced with a warrior, and I would bet that if a warrior main goes FA ele, and I go HoT Warrior, the win would be mine, 9 out of the 10 times (I have witnessed Lucadiro doing this to Goku [a solid warrior himself] with a core warrior build), Goku himself called me a kitten for running but got rekt by Lucadiro while Lucadiro went warrior, and Goku went s/f ele (guess he failed to kite enough and didn’t know how to dodge important skills under pressure).

An s/f ele needs much more micro management and general awareness of its surroundings, warriors are gimmicks, hit one skill and it is over.

It seems to me, you have no understanding of how ele works, and 1v1’s in general, or you just fought bad warriors (good ones will completely destroy s/f ele’s, unless they are core warriors).

So I just finished my Placements on my alt account, went 8-2 and had nearly in every game at least 2-3 top stats. I am surprised of the rank I got tbh Someone got an idea why or is the system just kittened?

Also, I play full zerker FA core ele in Platinum with scholar runes , yet I can’t climb higher just because I play this build and all other builds are easier, more rewarding and more brainless to play, yet whenever I lose a match, people tend to report me. I should switch up my play as well? Well, had a game against 3 druids 1 warrior, and a mesmer yesterday, while we had the core FA ele, a guard, a thief, an engineer and a revenant, guess who lost? ‘’oh, you want to burst me? let’s give myself protection and you, the bursting class, some weakness aye?’’ You see, with that game, 1 death was enough for a complete snowball, as in Foefire, Druids can rotate insanely fast and support the other Druids when needed.

Sorry Evan, but your argument doesn’t make any sense…. though the guy probably deserves to be at where he is, since top tier thieves are able to carry games.

i know everyone is entitled to their opinion but dang cobra that is a really unfortunate post. Comes across like you havent been playing video games for very long let alone gw2.

You say fights take a long time which means you werent around before the formula change.

“Business model blowing up in their face” lol you remind me of those guys that say a game is dying, 10 years later still say the game is dying.

I will give you that it makes no sense that some classes have enough active defenses and some dont, the ones who dont are punished for not having them. I also dont agree with the amount of invunerability mesmer in particular has. They already have ports, stealth, block, moa and the fastest burst in the game which is unrelenting on both power and condi. Why they also have invulnerbility that can be used multiple times in a fight is odd to me, yet revenant is constantly being nerfed, necro still has to rely on teammates and ele can only use tanking amulets.

People who talk about Anets business like they have numbers is pretty amusing.

Then answer this question, why do businesses exist? What’s their core purpose? If you can answer this question, then you can understand what Cobra means.

Build Diversity

Nearly 1 million damage in the first photo… A lot more than those “OP DPS BUILDS”… pretty good for “support only” no?

Second Photo has me at 37k damage received using a staff. (due to evades and dodging instead of tank n spank playstyle)

3rd photo is a hybrid build.

4th photo is marauder staff arcane mixture. 1v1 a thief for that point too.

5th photo is a 5 man ele team I was in for a few games, as you can see I’m clearly not the best Ele. That should be a testament to what people can achieve, I could probably do better myself if my fingers didn’t have arthritis or if I had a pc that didn’t sit at an avg ping of 300 with fps of 17-22.

I could post heaps of these builds/photos because I print screen every match stats to cross compare the stats between builds. Back to the point, it’s easier to spam aura menders heals than it is to actually play any other build. Don’t give the “team and TS” argument either because when I’m on TS or playing with a team I’m running a Paladin Ele simply because there is already a Mender Druid. What I bring as an Ele is mass condition removal, I let the real healers like Druid do the healing while I mass cleanse condi and apply hard and soft CC to a target. We fill in each others weak spots so to speak. Also playing with a Rev on our team, my mass condi removal is very much needed. (not pro teams, I just fill in for guild teams here and there)

There’s build diversity if players can handle high risk builds. Learning those builds takes patience and practice, you will wipe lots of times trying to learn them but the pay off is worth it. (its also the closest feeling you’ll get to the original pvp before HoT where timing and watching enemy skills actually mattered, before the HoT spray n pray builds)

Don’t mean to knock your builds (more power to you), but post-match damage stats is not the sign of a high-damage build. In fact, it can mean the opposite. Here’s an illustrative example:

If you instagib a rev with a perfectly timed burst 5 times in a row, your damage stat will be about 100k.

On the other hand, if you spend 10 minutes fighting a rev on point without killing him because he keeps healing up in between your burst attempts, your damage stat will be like 500k+.

The more effective build/player ends up with a much lower damage stat at the end of the match.

Yea I’m aware of this factor, I use the stats, timer and total damage and reflect on the match to see what it is I’m looking to boost. That first match with a Million damage it was a full length match which rarely happens for my games, I was mostly trying to tell someone that build diversity exists across a wide range of builds. I got plenty of those lower stat ones but they only happen in ranked/team play and not solo/duo pubstomps. Either way I’m having fun on lots of builds, shame to see other gamers feel they are restricted to what esl players play.

Like someone else said though that makes a lot more sense: People are comparing ESL guild team builds as no diversity to that of solo q. My perspective is purely playing solo/duo and with guild teams, not pros.

You post pictures, yet I see no one in the enemy team that is a highly skilled player. In higher elo, your build would have been pretty useless. Unranked matches are matches where people tend to troll with builds, who’s to say that the opponents were running meta builds?

Good thieves would pretty much instagib you, revenants would apply pressure, so that your staff dps will be useless. A rev pressuring you means that you can’t kill kitten, because staff inherently, is a bad 1v1 tool, which means that you wouldn’t be able to kill rev’s 1v1 with it. You could perhaps hold him, but what’s the point of that build then, when its purpose is to dps? All those pictures show me is, that you haven’t been pressured at all.

Toxic, good player or bad, nice player?

Never seen a toxic good player.

Why? There are a lot of toxic ESL players that are both good and toxic. Toxicity does not always equal bad skill, however it might equal being angry with your teammates for losing, which is perfectly fine.

Am I a good player? Way above average.
Am I toxic? Yes.
Will I ever afk? No, I always play until the end.
Why am I toxic? Because the meta is kitten, this game mode has become kitten, the balance is kitten, the MM is kitten, the passive play is kitten, because the required level of skill has been decreased (in a game where micromanagement is not prevalent), because I want to win, not lose, because I want to have good and fun matches and not complete blowout matches.
Because I love this game, however the love has become bittersweet.

Am I toxic in other competitive games? No, it’s only in Guild Wars 2.
Will I ever stop being toxic? Unlikely, the times of bliss are over, at least for me, because it was during that time I had the most fun playing this game and I don’t expect Anet to ever make adequate changes, though there will always be hope!

I had a game yesterday where my team played against a bear druid and backpedalling necromancers that were legendary, we won of course, but I can imagine how frustrating it can be for people getting queued with those players, also backpedalling, it means you’re losing control of wtf you’re doing, this should not happen to legendary players, backpedalling legendary players don’t belong in legendary.

The game was best before the Celestial amulet was introduced, there was a role for every class, well except for Necro’s, even Hambow warrior is better than the kitten we have now. Pre Celestial GW2 was the best GW2. No CC spam, no unkillable tanks, except for good bunker Guardians, games were fun and exciting back then, now it’s just one big power creep Condi/CC fest.

umm you realize you have ret, which gives you stab on dodge…?

You do realize that not all revenants run retribution? CC spam is too much, classes also have too much passive access to Stability. Even with retribution, hit someone with lightning aura twice, and your stacks are gone.

I don’t have a problem with condi’s, I do have a problem with the CC output, in the past, CC was used to rupt important skills at a risk and high cooldown, stability countered this with equally high risk and cooldowns.

I think the sad thing is that there are still a lot of players stuck in ruby/diamond who deserve to be in legend division who aren’t because of solo queue MMR hell

I agree with this, after getting to Tier 7 Diamond ( solo ) and then suddenly dropping to tier 2 within 3 days, I can tell you that I’m pretty burned out, there were games where I got the same teammates 5 consecutive times, I would get the same players in my team on other days as well, no not in the opposing team, but in my team. Today for example, I got a warrior and 2 premades twice in my team, after having stopped playing for a few hours, I get the same players again. Match making is bad and I’m seriously thinking of leaving PvP until they fix their kittening system.

It doesn’t matter how hard I try to carry, I get frustrated about the loss in the end, if I made mistakes, I blame myself, I reflect on what I could have done better, but it seriously gets tiring after a while and I start questioning myself whether this game is really worth playing, though I will not lose hope.

I complained to support and they sent me an e-mail with ‘’this is a known issue that is currently under investigation.’’ not the issue stated in this thread, but the issue of someone disconnecting for over 1 minute twice, and our team losing because of that, we still lost a pip, my assumption thus is, that the entire disconnect system is a mess :P

I guess this is working as intended, take a look at Moba games, LoL for example, even though they have such a huge player base, the Challenger (best) players will most definitely have long queue times. Streamers play other games inbetween queues etc.

Oil is tied to the dollar, not the other way around. If the dollar strengthens, oil drops. However, if oil drops it doesn’t strengthen a weak dollar except in the most tangential way.

If countries start buying and selling oil with other currencies, the Dollar will grow weak, demand for dollars will drop, that’s why the USA made a deal with Saudi Arabia and other Middle Eastern countries, if I want to buy oil from Saudi Arabia, I have to convert my Euro’s to Dollars and buy the oil, Saudi Arabia would then have to invest those Dollars in American firms.

Crystalline Caches spawning "open"

Same for me, after opening a few and completing the Crystallized Cache Seeker achievement, this bug occured. I think those two are somehow tied. All of the caches on the map are now ’’open’’ and thus you cannot get the loot. Hope for a fast fix.

Did anyone find the Wild Bull (ambient) creature that we’re supposed to kill for the collection? This is not a normal bull, it is one of those creatures that die from 1 hit (ambient creatures). I’ve been searching the whole day with no luck.
