And why do u say multiple times in your vid you’ll gain any time u use CC quickness which is an incredible boost (it would be yes, but cmon, 20sec cd kill this trait.)

My bad I didn’t mean literally any time, just realised I said it once near the start so apologies for confusion. There’s multiple indications I make to it having a cooldown as well though

20 second cd can be acceptable though, especially since you can gain stability so no time is wasted with Overcharged Shot. Perhaps with I.P the Hip Shots you get from Quickness can be devastating + it’s not like every fight will last a duration shorter than 20 sec

edit: it’s for the Juggernaut Quickness procs that you’ll get from literally every ability knocking enemies back. It adds to the power of the elite which is the purpose of the build essentially

Am i the only one that saw “you’ll often have 5/6 stacks of might” and thought wat?

It’s cause of Elixir B with Might gains from Enhance Performance along with Sigil of Strength for passive might gains on crit hits

You can get up to 12 stacks man I swear hahah, it’s surprising

3. You can increase duration of Elixir X either via Elite Supplies or Potent Elixirs (if I remember correctly). If you take into account your high elixir recharge rate you end up with an uptime of 25 seconds on rampage every 84 seconds. That is almost 1/3 uptime on your elite!

Ahh, I overlooked Elite Supplies at first because 5 seconds didn’t seem a worthy trait, but now that you mention it being combined with Fast Acting it seems more viable.

Are you sure it would be valuable to get this extra duration over an increased combat speed as Juggernaut though? I’m unsure myself

I made my first attempt at an Elixir X build a few nights ago:

I’m interested to see any other build ideas for the Elixir for comparison.

In mine, the traits stacked together with the boons create, most importantly, huge Might stacks that never really run out. There’re Might gains from the heal, from the weapon sigil and from Elixir X abilities. This means that Elixir X abilities are twice as powerful as normal as you’ll often have 5/6 stacks of Might when you activate it.

There’s also a high amount of CC with the build. As it revolves around Synaptic Overload for getting Quickness to use in both rifle abilities and Elixir X abilities, I’ve incorporated various knockdowns in the build and if you look at the Juggernaut and Tornado abilities there’s also a ton of ways to interupt/knockback.

Tornado may not be as good as Juggernaut but there’s still a wide variety of crowd control involved with the number 1+2 abilities. Generally the build’s good for capturing nodes and group scaled combat, as you can pop Elixir X and just reign havoc over 3+ enemies at the same time, and since you get a big health pool you don’t have to worry about survival too much for those 20 seconds.

It’s useful to prepare yourself before using Elixir X by logically popping all Elixirs in the build so that you have maximum boon potential when you go into one of the forms. 1v1 the build is almost unbeatable when you turn into Juggernaut (as long as you take a bit of time learning the abilities that get you closer to enemies and the abilities that require you to be in close range to enemies) and with Tornado there’s still a large chance of winning. Chances are roughly 80% Juggernaut 20% Tornado anyhow (surely? I tested it and almost every time I got Juggernaut /20 attempts).

With Fast Acting, I’m also pretty sure that this is the shortest cool down Juggernaut activation in the game, so surely it can be utilised.

Please post your builds if you have any ideas for Elixir X combinations. I understand that almost everyone uses Supply Crate- but who’s to say we shouldn’t try and branch out for once

Ah the delicious tears of the impotent Prince Valentine. A triple kit engi played well can kill every class, but has a risk/reward aspect to it.

Zerker ranger is a cute “counter” suggestion, which suggests total ignorance of the fact that Rapid Fire is easily countered by Tool Kit and trying to get in his face with GS will have every condi in the game except torment with a side of blindness dumped on you.

this can be easily kited by a zerker ranger but no need to worry since most rangers have already rerolled.

Ranger and Mesmer have always been my vulnerability as an Engineer since day 1, but there’s ways to fight kiting.

havent watch video but dunno how this build can succeed. what do you do against any ranged class, especially power, but condi too? super squishy, with no ranged dmg, isnt this a sitting duck?
you rocket boot, enemy dodges/kites away. you try tool pull, enemy dodges. then what?
what is the purpose of the build, how do you play it?

Gear Shield is perfect for ranged defence. There might be a lack of ranged damage but I find that kinda pointless to point out, because with Rocket Boots you aren’t really going to be kited. Almost all Engineer builds have a slight weakness at range anyway, and if you can aim with the Grenade Kit there’s your ranged damage.

Create combo fields with Fire Bomb and Poison Grenade for Explosive Shot to deal more condition damage from a range. Purpose is the mass conditions you can build up with multiple kits, as well as the additional bunkering capabilities you get from a couple of abilities like Big Ol Bomb. Magnet Pull will hit more than it misses if you time it correctly so it can’t be dodged

I might be off topic, but what is this op build you are talking about? I just made a couple of days ago a thief and was curious about this build.

And to beat it as an engi just block once you see him put the venoms on, generally thiefs will just start. Also reflects from shield or the new turret bubble trait work well if you are running them.

Surely it’s futile though to do all of these defensive CDs before he has popped his almost permastealth? Usually against this build it’s after they regain the venom conditions that I get scared

This build might seem outdated to many of the turret/HGH builds at the moment, but the trait points stack high amounts of condition usage and damage so that this build can be very competitive.

In Legacy Of The Foefire and Forest of Niflhel, instead of the Rocket Boots utility it might be useful to swap to the Grenade Kit. That way you have different offensive opportunity as you can stand away from nodes but continue to apply strong conditions from a range. The kit also gives you a whole lot more conditions to stack with the Bomb Kit.

People might be put off by the lack of stun breaker, but I don’t believe in stun breakers as strongly as others and sometimes I think it can be a waste of a utility (don’t hate).

I’m open to constructive comments but please don’t pointlessly criticise, I’m just trying to help players. Too many trolls have had pointless arguments with me about only being able to play the latest FOTM builds involving unbeatable and solidly damaging turrets, otherwise an Engineer is ‘terrible’

I found a 1v1 I can't win...advice?

Well, I have run a spec similar to this since the HGH days (I always refused to do HGH):

30/0/20/20/0 (main variation from what I used to run is Power Shoes instead of Speedy Kits).

Anyway…I have become, in my mind, pretty good at solo roaming. I never fear a 1v1, have fun during 1v2s, and only get nervous at 1v3. Tonight that changed. I fought a Thief who didn’t 222222222222 against me. A condition burst Thief (somehow I haven’t ran into these before in a 1v1 situation). This guy would load me up with conditions, stealth, come back out at high health with all my conditions cleared.

Running away is not a solution. Is there any possible way to fight these guys?

Dude I have had the exact same problem recently. There’s NOTHING I can do, I’ve fought this build with Thieves so many times yesterday and it sucks that I can’t find a way to beat them.

I play a condition build that uses Bomb Kit/Rocket Boots/Tool Kit, so I’d like to think I have a big enough balance of defensive and offensive capabilities to beat almost everyone in 1v1 as like yourself I find myself rarely losing, but I can’t do it. The build’s unbeatable.

It’s not fair how the Thief can just disappear while you’re ticking heavy damage with a heal on cd, and then they appear about 15 seconds later with three quarters of their health (when they were basically dead beforehand) and REAPPLY the initial burst. It’s too much, you’d probably have to play a variation of some Elixir Gun/heavily-traited Inventions build to stack enough toughness and vitality in order to survive that kind of burst imo.

Also Lert if you happen to read any of this, how can you call the choice of picking an additional condition over, effectively, an additional boon(regeneration in a way) ‘simply a waste’? You’re comparing two different attributes to be applied to a build, essentially both defensive.
PERSONALLY I would prefer the opportunity for a bursty thief (for an example in this case) to have his initial burst blinded, even if it is only a 50% chance, over the rather petty heal you gain from Backpack Regenerator. Don’t hate, but it’s a condition build

Man, how do you expect to have “serious” discussion if you’re not treating other point of view seriously? How can you expect to be treated so?
I will be one of those guys and say it loud – this build isn’t strong. You pretty much confirmed it by saying you don’t want any other opinions that these agreeing with you.
Using Acidic Coating instead of Backpack regenerator is just pure waste.
And about what capping point did you talk about with your <2000 armor?

for god’s sake what has happened to this silly sheepish community? Can you explain when I said that I would not treat other points of view seriously?
I simply said that I have had TOO MANY dumb and illogical arguments with trolls trying to explain that only one FOTM build for each profession is viable during each update, so I don’t want to have to deal with that on my forum posts… I’m trying to help players…
I said anyone willing to have a ’"serious" debate about Engineer builds to DM me, because I want to filter the trolls

Also (from an sPvPers perspective) i’m not ‘allowed’ to be any build that isn’t the FOTM in high rated pvp, because it’s not the most famous and supposedly ‘best’ build out there. This instantly stops me from being able to make imaginative builds in competitive play. always has to go back to the power stacking rifle buid.

sure Engineers are fun and have a variety of imaginative builds, but the mindset of the community ruin any imaginative ability we have.
Even on this thread most people are saying that strong condi. built necromancers beating engineers is ‘completely unfair’, but it’s just the one flaw of our profession being taken advantage of. It’s completely fair, it’s just that GW2 is a team game where you have to find the counter to every build/spec in order to win.

Engineers have a huge advantage over Thieves. Condi necromancers have a huge advantage over us, and so it continues. The playerbase just need to change the way they think about balance a bit, and then we will be appreciated as much as our profession should be by everyone.

I like the idea of showing builds apart from the decap engi, but tbh that build is nowhere near viable. It maybe was back in the early days of PVP but the only thing you have proven is, that you are able to kill people in your elo range. If you progress you will see how easily you can be outplayed.
Also the pressure you create with this build is nowhere near as effective as for example the teldo bomb build. It sometimes look like you just dont watch your enemy. You spam your skills and you are too busy with yourself that you cant react to what your opponent is doing. And the tip with the clerics amulett is not good either – Since this is a damage oriented build you need condition damage and with clerics you are just a worse version of a decap engenieer.

Dont get me wrong. I like the idea of creating videos and have fun playing the game. But especially the part where you laughed about the thief wasn’t very nice and I am sure that there are still a lot of people out there, which could easily do the same with you.

Fair point my friend, comments like that are appreciative because I guess I could have a vain approach when it comes to to the use of different builds for arenas, but this is just a video for entertainment for the moment because of the f.pack coming soon. Once those trait changes are released to turrets and their sustainability/defensive capabilities are improved, bunkering and point holding IMO is going to become the main path of Engineers (at least for me).

This was a last-time play of a wildly outdated but creative build that, excluding the lack of power of it in higher-rated tournament games, can be an entertaining spec to play.

In 10 days playing any sort of style like the spec shown in the video will never happen again for me. I should have made my intentions with the video clearer, so thanks for the comment. But as I used to play tournaments in a more competitive way with completely different builds, this will all be changing on the release of the pack.

Just briefly, here’s a little bit of a refined build based on a Glass Cannon spec for sPvP, using the grenades as big hitters (yes, even now after nerfs).

The traits are completely drawn towards crits and power for the build’s crits, and you’ll noticed the Tool Kit is strewn in there for a bit of added defence and survivability, mainly for the gear shield. I believed the build was just too squishy without some sort of defensive cooldown.

Just as advertising for people possibly interested in watching some sPvP from an Engineer’s point of view, here’s my current Livestream for now and the future where I’ll be playing a few games, but mostly GW2: tournaments with a group of friends.

Some people might know me from some of the Engineer builds I’ve made, from OpticsTV. Because I make builds, I’ll also be crafting new builds and ideas as well as playing tournament PvP. I hope people might find this interesting too, as there seems to always be new ideas that I get for Engineer builds and now I can record the testing of these builds live.

It won’t be a completely serious livestream, but the gameplay from me, as far as I know, will not be poor. However, the livestream is only 480p at themoment, but I’ll be fixing that very soon (it’s just some simple internet issues).

I hope anyone who’s possibly bored and just wants to watch some regular Engineer sPvP will enjoy this. I’ll be streaming basically every Friday, Saturday and Sunday night according to GMT, as well as some other week nights that I haven’t scheduled.

For general use, do you guys prefer the flame or the rocket turret?

The flame has several advantages, like lower cooldown to start, bit more aoe near the turret. And of course: the blind is pulsing several times and a smoke field, two very important features of it.

But the rocket turret knocks down once or twice every 20 seconds (depending on when you press overcharge) and it hits a LOT harder.
The knockdown is a lot of control over a character, but the downside is that it is easy to avoid without the net turret.
The auto attack as well has great burn but still good direct damage too.
And the range of course: much much longer.
Longer cooldown too of course, much much longer… sigh.

On dummies the rocket turret burns down a target about double as fast as the flame.
Couple that with the sitting duck trait and a net turret, and it goes even better because the direct damage benefits from the vuln stacks more.

Convince me of why the flame turret would be the better choice, currently tempted to go with the rocket turret.
My other turret will most likely be the net turret.
I think net turret has more uses than the thumper, which seems point holder mostly.
But that’s another debate of course: net vs thumper.

Right, so, on paper, the rocket turret seems way better, right? It deals more damage overall, and theoretically it’s like the rifle turret and the flame turret combined (without the cooldown bleeding from the rifle). If the rocket turret and the rifle turret had similar cooldowns, a build would be amazing with them combined, as they have similar ranges, would deal moderate amounts of direct damage and would stack condition damage nicely too.

But IF they had similar cooldowns. Above all the pros of taking the rocket turret, the ridiculous cooldown made me not choose it. In my opinion it’s not practical to have in a build, especially in competitive sPvP. I believe it’s double the cooldown (more or less) of the rifle and net turret, and since these two turrets are sort of vital for a turret build, the rocket turret just couldn’t be implemented for me.

With how weak turrets are and how vulnerable they are to AOE damage, so they are basically being destroyed by players who might not even know they are there (though that’s a different discussion), I think we need not only the cooldowns of placing the turrets to be low, but we also need them all to be similar to eachother. If they aren’t, you’ll possibly go through the whole game where 50% of the time your rocket turret isn’t available for a fight where it would have saved you.

It depends on the player a bit, I suppose. I need my turrets to be ready to place together, for maximum damage, and the cooldown of the rocket turret is just too big for my liking. It’s definitely more powerful than the flame turret, but it’s not as practical.
P.S I don’t think range of the flame turret is that much of an issue personally, not with the net turrets we have at our disposal.

Testing turrets myself since the patch too, so I’m really glad these posts and video’s show up.
It’s a fun build you use, seems pretty decent.

I’m not 100% convinced on any turret aside net turret yet, but you can feel the buffs indeed.

My biggest issues are: they die too fast for too long cooldown (looking at you rocket turret).
And also: they still target useles mobs. Turret UI needs to improve, or simply: why can’t a turret at least hit my target first, and than any other player hitting me second. And lastly: any npc hitting me.
Currently turrets hit npc pets first way too often. I need those long overcharge cooldowns on the players, not the pets. Or as I said: at least on my target.

Yeah, unfortunately you have to keep one eye all the time on who you’re turrets are targeting. If they are attacking someone you’re not, it’s a shame that you are almost forced to switch your target in order to deal a decent amount of damage.
The turrets dominate who you target (which is completely random) not you, who can make a more wise and beneficial choice.

However, at least the turrets have been buffed enough to be viable for something now. All that remains is the actual attitude of turrets, because random targeting and low health pools isn’t fantastic for the game.

After the Flame and Frost update, turrets have been buffed enough so that they are viable for good and useful sPvP builds.
So to test out the power of turrets now, I made a new build (adjusting my MechaMan build from pre-patch) and it’s quite effective.

The build uses all turrets as utility skills, and for the first time you can get away with this. You don’t need to compliment the damage with a weapon kit because the damage of your turrets, their cooldowns and your weapon skills alone are enough for a moderate damage output.

The survival of this build is very high because of the high points spent in Inventions (boosting toughness) and there’s high control from the Net Turret and immobilizing tool kit skill.

'Explosive Support' sPvP Build [video]

I haven’t posted a build on the forums for a while now, but here’s my latest sPvP build video that I uploaded a couple of weeks ago.

My aim with this build was to get more than one role in the build itself. For the base of this build, I picked up the Bomb Kit and the Grenade Kit together. Straight away, these two kits contrast each other regarding the range of them.

The Bomb Kit is almost like a melee weapon, having a radius of no larger than 250. Although it has heavy emphasis on conditions like the Grenade Kit does, the difference in range makes the Bomb Kit designed for close quarters.

The Grenade Kit has potentially the highest ranged attacks for the Engineer. This automatically sits it in a position where its range can be used to its advantage, and using the kit in close quarters would almost be wasting the advantages of its ranged capabilities.

If these two kits are combined, it means that this build can switch ranges and roles depending on the situation. If your team has a slight edge on capturing a point, and you are not necessarily needed to stand inside the point, then you can find a spot away from the point and support your team with grenades and elixirs.

If you are needed to contest for the point because your team is not doing as well, then you can play with the Bomb Kit and the pistol + shield and run into close quarters, being able to apply group conditions and knock people out of the point.

There are also elixirs to help support your team, as throwing them has quite a substantial range, yet not as good as the Grenade Kit’s range, unfortunately.

Endurance based Bunker Build | sPvP [Video]

I decided to go for a Bunker Build option for the Engineer.

This build uses 4 different weapon kits to utilise different aspects of combat. The Med Kit and the Elixir Gun specialise in healing and survival. Super Elixir and Bandage packs enable strong healing and also provide good condition removal.

The Bomb Kit enables the build to have some conditional support from abilities like the Smoke Bomb and the Glue Bomb. From the rifle itself, you have Net Shot and Overcharged Shot that give you control over the node, as well as Big Ol’ Bomb from the Bomb Kit.

I think the downed state is something unique that encourages team play and more depth with the game. If the downed state wasn’t there, 2v1s would be much more accessible, and so that’s degrading team play a bit. For me, there are three professions that make the downed state a bit ridiculous, the Mesmer, Thief and Elemantalist. These three exploit the downed state and evidently have better abilities that disrupt fights to an extent that makes them a high threat even in the downed state.

I don’t think it should be removed (not that it will be removed) because there are also abilities that are focused on the downed state. Coming from an Engineer, my favourite elixir is one that revives players when they are downed. The fact that players can return, and it’s not just simple to die, makes PvP a lot more diverse.

The COD4 version of Slovenian Show is also very, very good. The editing is so good because its decent enough to not ruin the flow of the video, while also not beinf just one fraps after the other. And another point that make good fragmovies is the audio/video snyc. Notice how its almost always perfectly synced? Thats just fun to watch.

But after thinking some more about it, maybe GW2 just isnt a game that favors fragmovies all that much – I have not seen a single good one yet, although I think with paid tournaments out there might be something good soon.

And lastly, fragmovies (at least im my opinion) have already passed their zenith, I havent seen a lot of good ones coming out lately, no matter the game. Also, in the early to mid 2000’s, there were entire communities and websites dedicated to making fragmovies and for a 500mb+ movie you had to wait a few hours before it finished downloading. It was something special. Finding gems in the vast wastelands of youtube nowadays is hard.

It’s highly unfair for you to compare an MMO movie with a COD movie.

COD montages require a 2 second clip for people to see a level of skill. With MMOs, the clip can be minutes, sometimes many minutes, because the combat is slow-paced compared to COD and everything is important, as well as having to take in health bars, cooldowns, etc. Editing is much more difficult and the length of clips is much, much longer.

Plus, I didn’t try any fancy editing, because I just wanted people to see how I played. It’s clear, and to a degree MMO movies have to be clear. I have never seen an MMO movie that doesn’t have unedited clips that last at least 10-25 seconds (unless it’s an intro)

Dam Optics, every time I discuss one of your video’s I start to sound like a fanboy, and I don’t want that

Your editing is again really great, and I just love your intro’s and the way they set up the amosphere of the video’s.

The gameplay is nice to watch, kuddo’s there as well.

As for the panning and such, or the lack thereof: it doesn’t hurt the artistic value of the video one bit that you didn’t pan this time, or zoom too much.
It was indeed clearer now without being boring at all in terms of camera.

oh, nice intermezo there. Was bit surprising and fresh.

Nice video and editing. One thing I was wondering about though. I noticed you seem to crit quite a bit (almost every hit), but I took a look at your build and it only has 11% crit + target the weak. What crit % were you using in the video?

I had the med kit and so a lot of the time I had fury from the stimulant, which might explain it.

I dont know man. The editing is nice and all (although I dont know how choirs and jumping off a cliff fit into GW2 but whatever) but man. Back in the days of CS 1.6 and Day of Defeat, if such a montage (they were called fragmovies and had A LOT better editing than this one) was recorded on public servers, the creator would have been mocked to no end for that fact. And in my opinion, rightfully so. Nowadays, those movies dont show skill because we can not be certain that your opponents are skilled. Let alone coordinated, which is a HUGE HUGE part of high level guild wars 2.
I remember having GBs over GBs of excellent fragmovies, all worth watching because they displayed skill on the highest level of competetive gaming, with voicechat laid over the video in key moments, or having splitscreen action in a 2vX situation. I dont know man, I dont get why videos like this get praised so much around here.

Believe it or not I agree with you mostly, but how do you suggest I create a movie where I can prove 100% that every player I fight is skilful?
I don’t agree with you about the editing- how did these people you speak of create a movie with excellent editing yet still contain a level of skill awareness within the video?
I think editing takes the focus off the mechanics and skill of play, and puts it more on the epicness of the video. If I learned how to edit particularly well, I wouldn’t make a skilful movie… I would make a pure montage where the only things I show are highlights where I play particularly unskilled opponents because it makes entertainment.
At the end of the day, these movies are meant for entertainment. I don’t ever claim that I’m good, and frankly I have no professional guild, and no skilful friends, so I can’t judge how good I am, and I probably am not nearly good enough to combat against very skilful people. (I wish I could practise with a good guild, though)
And I’m not experienced with editing, with the last movie I made getting a bad respone editing wise, saying that I annoyed people because they couldn’t clearly see what was going on, so please, I am genuinely interested in how these people edited very well but kept the movie itself focussed on displaying very skilful plays.
