Yeah I think Windu is right- it was not so much the ending wasn’t fun as that there was no epilogue to follow up the ending to resolve hanging plot threads.

I definitely think Vayne has it right in that the Meta Events are half the story about what is going on. During the last story mission, one of the characters makes a comment along the lines of “We need to do this while the dragon’s focus is distracted outside”- I didn’t really understand what that meant until I got the chance to do the Meta for Dragon’s Stand.
I’d also like to point out that, comparatively, the aftermath of killing Moldy is not “fun”.
Zhaitan’s campaign was all about systematically pushing our way into his territory, cutting off his sources of power and then culminating in an all out aerial battle with our combined forces. A celebration is then in order to celebrate all the hard work put into getting to that point and the success of the mission.
Moldy’s campaign starts with the utter destruction of those combined forces, continues into desperately trying to bring together the scattered survivors of the pact, attempting to rally support from the locals and then try and finish the mission anyway. The whole campaign is one desperate push to another, fueled by mistrust for your own comrades, the grief for your lost allies and the knowledge that your big invincible fleet, which has already killed one dragon, was just destroyed in two seconds and you’re now trapped there.
The feeling is less of one of celebration and more of “Holy carp we just got through that by the skin of our teeth”

You mean the job done by one guy, over the course of the year, on his off hours, because he thought it’d be cool?
… Red card for the pun, dear lord.
I heard a thing suggesting that they are going to be moving old living world stories into fractals so that they aren’t permanently gone.
And, as Danikat said, it needs to be made more clear what characters specialize in before putting them in a story. (Remember Trehearne summoning 5 flesh golems and an elite shadow fiend, then never doing it ever again?)
If you take a second and watch traherne you could see he was a necro rather early. All his attack particles are black. Which is the necro’s thing. And the reason Anet said they wouldn’t release weapons/skins/dyes that changed the attack particles of characters, because then you couldn’t id them based on that. Which is kinda nitpicking I know.
In Marjory and Kasmeer’s case, Marjory wears black and green robes (signature of the necro, really) and while Kasmeer isn’t as clear on first meeting her (assuming you’ve never met them before) you may notice her using a pink stealthing on the two of them during the intro story mission, which is a mesmer thing.
….You do realize I’m referring to things that aren’t obvious by looking at them, right? I can’t tell if you’re serious or not.
Don’t worry, I’m not being serious.
Of course it’s a balance thing. When you can’t fix your balance by changing the numbers, you create new tools to deal with the problem areas. Conditions are overused and you can’t nerf them more or risk making them totally useless, so create more tools to deal with them.
They did that in WvW with the stealth detecting items to counter the stealth spam thieves, as well.
(first she’s some kind of Ghost Whispering detective, now she’s a poison expert).
Undead and Poison are two things necros are known for…

See, that didn’t make me blink because Marjory is a Necromancer, and if anyone was going to pop up and say ‘yo I know posions’ it would be a necro. I mean if the Mesmer chirped up and said SHE knew all about posions then I’d be a little confused.
I’ve got a friend who says that they are going to have legitamate anti aging tech within the next 50 years.
That’s actually not accurate, you don’t need the candy buff. If you stand right next to him when he arrives and then quickly eat enough candy to throw up when he becomes attackable it’ll work.
Yeah if there is any hope of doing it under a minute he’d have to be easy…
Besides, as far as the lore goes… he really was second rate compared to the Mad King himself. Of course he’s a pushover.
Antiltiger that wasn’t particularly helpful for a new player.
Butter, head over to the Haunted Nolani waypoint in the black citadel to start. They complete the “A Sweet Friend” achievement in the living world subheading. You can get to the mad realm via doors in places like queensdale.
There are repeatable achievements under the daily tab that count towards “A Sweet Friend”
I think they have a team working on making some sort of library for lore avalible to us in game, I remember a dev talking about all the questions they’d have to answer to make something like that. I have no idea when something like that would be coming, but I’m sure it’ll come eventually.
Yeah this is pretty hilarious. Nicely played XD
Well, gearing up your character is usally as simple as going onto the trading post and searching up exotic gear for your character. You can go around the high leveled areas and collect materials or run events and collect/craft/sell the high level drops you get to make money, run dungeons more effectively/do their explorable modes (with better gear and more personal playing experience), do the fractal dungeons, clear all the maps, fight world bosses, do WvWvW or other forms of pvp.
Yeah it’s probably just one of the limitations of it being a game versus it being not possible within the lore.
Its definitly a learned ability. If you think back to GW1, just about everybody multiclassed, letting a warrior also be an ele and so on. If you can find someone to teach you it, you can learn it.
That’s part of the reason you’ve got shatter skills, heh!
Where it starts getting stupid, though, is when it’s not at all constructive. When I see posts like, “these devs are incompetent and should hang themselves.” or, “I demand you do (x) or I’m gonna quit.” is when it crosses a line. If someone spoke to me like that physically face to face, their complaint would be lost on me immediately and I’d ban them from having anything to do with my business. Their money means little to me if they have the social skills of a gnat.
I feel like… there are a lot of people out there who forget, on some level, that they are talking to another human being who goes through all the same sorts of ups and downs as they do, and as such can’t empathize enough to be able to restrain themselves when they go to say things like that.
Then again there are people like that who will say that even to other people’s faces, but that is a different issue.
Yeah there is an actual general disscusion area for general disscusions.
Yeah I’m spending a lot of time in areas with iron ore, and I sell them for ~1s/ore, and with the amount of ore in the area and the stuff I’m salvaging….
The dude is just trying to make a point about how the infomation delievery system of what is expected of players in game could use work, that’s it. He’s doing it in a way that is kinda unclear and can be highly aggrivating, but that’s all he’s trying to do. His point revolves around that it doesn’t matter that the people in this thread are telling him that it’s soloable, because that revolves going above and beyond the game’s instructions to discover this which shouldn’t need to be done. The game should tell him as the player what he can and can’t do by himself, and it doesn’t, and he’s trying to make a point about this.
Elbegast, assuming this IS your point and that I’m not just blowing smoke, I agree with your goal but disagree with your methods. It should be clearly marked what I can and can’t do by myself, but by expressing this on the forums (where people come to find out exactly that kind of information), the other forum goers don’t understand what your intentions are, and as such, when they explain what their percived soloution is to the problem they percive you to be expressing, they get confused and angry when you go on about your original point and don’t appear to take in their feedback.
Besides this, I’ve enough faith in the devs that they understand that it shouldn’t be this way either but they have a limited amount of resources and haven’t allocated any to this particularly, in the grand scheme, minor issue.

Paying to win is about using a cash shop to give yourself an advantage over other players. Guild Wars 2’s payment model revolves around giving players customization or convience options, but does not give them an advantage over other players. You’re basically paying with either your time or your money, for all the stuff in there. The infinite coin doesn’t do anything differently than any other continue coins except save you the time of having to go out and get more. If the coin, say, also let you see where all the baubles were on the map, or made you immune to damage after using the coin for a minute, then it’d be pay to win. It’s NOT P2W.

Ahahaha! I did that World 2-1 under the waterfall glitch too, ran around screenshotting it. I eventually died somehow though.

Assuming the events are being set properly (I’ve seen guys who start events permadead due to glitches before), the guy who normally stands by the base of the tree should be coming round more or less soon. He comes from south of the spiral and has to be protected against undead to get to the tree, defended at the tree against waves of undead (using the plant mortars as back up), and then defended against a champion risen hylek.
This question has been asked several times on the forums.
The answer is no, not particularly. There are some dialogue options that will fail if you aren’t high enough in a particular track, and some renown hearts require you talking to certain people with a certain trait. Other then that though, they don’t really do much.
You can also get gear as loot drops and from renown hearts. Hearts from npc’s near your level will give armor of about your level.
In my experience, 1 event = 2 influence. However, when doing WvWvW I noticed a significant increase in the amount of influence per event we did.
Now, in the WvW case I was in a party of a number of guildies all working together, and my usual observations don’t have many guildies on at one time.
Currently, there are only 3 ways to getting someone there, two of which have been listed.
Personal Story reward (twice, one ’round 30, 35 or so; one at the level cap)
Guild Armorer (requires being in a guild with the Armorer being unlocked)
Be an Engineer and picking the backpack option at character creation.
Capes and other back slots are planned future additions, reportedly. For capes there were clipping issue that delayed their release.

Yeah, if you mouse over the skill it’ll say something along the bottom of the skill about disabling/enabling auto attack.
Generally it’s not safe to leave your character idling in a field somewhere unless you know the patterns of the area well enough that you’re not going to get attacked. Roads TEND to be safer, and outposts with NPCs in lower level zones tend to be safe. In higher level they are sometimes the focus of events which will make them somewhat less safe.
what I mean is that the whole area is not the same as GW1, Understanding that dragons and volcano have an affect but mountains in general are pretty strong like it would take this dragon doing a h3ll of a lot of damage.
with the exception of mountains changing over time due to natural causes :P – is there anything that is the same as GW1?
One dragon awakening caused an entire country to rise up from the depths of the ocean.
Yes. The Dragons DO have that kind of power. That is part of the reason they are a threat (the other part being them trying to, y’know, kill/corrupt everything).
Agree with the human constraints comment. From what I’ve seen and inferred, the sylvari more or less live wherever it suits their fancy. They all share living space, are content to just sleep more or less anywhere, aren’t terribly materialistic, and banks use magic.
There should also be a couple GW1 timelines available on the GW1 wiki that go over ancient past (that has some relevence in late game GW2) and more recent past that was covered by the GW1 campaigns.
Oh, the players are also mentioned in one of the novels, for that matter. Glint tells the story of how she instructed them to save the world and then they beat her within an inch of her life for no discernable reason to Destiny’s Edge.
Oh god that bonus was considered canon? I always thought it was out of place and random…
As for the war… I really don’t feel like anyone ever wins with war, especially this war… just a lot of dead soldiers and civilians.
Also, there WAS volcanic activity, thus the volcano in the southern reaches of what used to be the shiverpeaks and is now the steamspur mountains.
I’d say because there are a whole bunch of other areas that are bugged that are actively interfering with your ability to play the game. I’d call that a priority.
Unless you have an invisible bag and place your Mini in there then it’ll stay with you.
OH HEY YEAH that would work wouldn’t it. Good point, thanks.
Watch out, sending all collectibles to the bank will also send away minipets
At the Ascalon Settlement, there is a monument dedicated to an ‘Unknown Soldier’, perhaps this might be the memorial to our Guild Wars 1 hero.
I don’t think so, mostly because monuments to the Unknown Soldier exist in real life as well, and their purpose matches the description on the monument in game. It’s a monument to all those who have died in battle but we don’t know who they are.
It’s not “an” unknown soldier but “the” unknown soldier. All of them.
There is another thread about this floating around in this forum.
I found the Hero Anton’s grave in Gendarran Fields.
It’s in the snowy area up against the animal fighting pits where you do the renown heart. It’s a small unmarked grey headstone, and when you interact with it Anton’s ghost appears and talks to you about himself.
Skill points you get from the blue triangle icons on the map. They are used to buy skills.
Trait points you get from leveling after level 10, and are used to buy traits that boost your stats. In order to add a trait point to a trait line, you must first buy a trait manual from a Class Trainer (represented by a book on the map, tend to mostly be in towns). The first book will let you level traits from 1-10, the second from 11-20, and the final from 21-30.
I tend to find /map conversations going on all the time talking about all sorts of stuff. I only tend to use /say when I want to say something only relevant to people near me.
Yeah, I never go out of my way to replace gear. If I find something better as a drop then I’ll pick it up, or if I happen to come across a better karma item that’s significantly better then my current stuff.
Dailies is the first listing under the Achievements Tab in the Hero panel. It encompass killing a certain number of creatures, a certain number of variety of creatures, a certain number of dynamic events participated in and crafting nodes harvested. When complete a treasure chest pops up in the bottom corner of the screen and gives you stuff.
You can get the new bank slot (and inventory slots, for that matter), from the bank window itself. The little lock icon below the actual inventory space will do it.
I think you caaan use skins of a higher level, as long as you take the stats and level requirement of the lower level item. I think. I’ve personally never tried but theoretically you should be able to.
lol yeah, don’t run dungeons. Crafting is a good way to go about it, as well as collecting the three resource nodes. Events where there are lots of other people around as well work too.
