Moa racing achiv

I think the Moa racing was just in bad taste to begin with. There is very little interaction with the player while doing it. You pick a moa and wait until it crosses the line.
There are people that run with the moa (I know I did when i first started betting). Why not incorporate some sort of user interaction to make it more fun, such as oil spills, movable speed buffs the moas can run over and trip wire explosives that knock the moas down. (If you’ve ever seen Wacky Races from back in the day, everything the bad guy did to try to win).

If Moa Racing was put in for a gold sink then maybe the problem isn’t with the amount of gold in circulation, but lack of content available for gold.

So after Shuguard’s advice, I looked up the drops for Silver Doubloons from different bags.

Heres a list of all the different bags on the wiki:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Package

Heres 3 different bags that drop Silver Doubloons (Don’t remember if there was more then that):
Bag of Skritt Shines: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Bag_of_Skritt_Shinies
Bag of Pilfered Goods: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Bag_of_Pilfered_Goods
Light Miner’s Bag: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Light_Miner%27s_Bag

Personally, while the bag idea was a good alternative, and great advice, I don’t think it is a very practical way to get Silver Doubloons.
Beginning out, I farmed Skritt in Blazeridge Steppes at Tongue Rock, (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Skritt_Sentry). The Skritt there are Gear Lobbers, Bottle Lobbers, Skritt Sentries, and Pistoliers.
The Skritt Sentries dropped them the most (for me at least), I farmed about 50 Bag of Skritt Shinies and got 0 Silver Doubloons. I then wanted to see what the statistics on the bags were, so i went to the Black Lion Trading House.

I opened a lot of bags, bought them from 75c-2s.
I spent a lot of gold on them, and I currently have 18 Silver Doubloons.
I recall opening 100 Bag of Skritt Shinies and getting 2 Silver Doubloons out of them.
Opened 100 Bag of Skritt Shinies and got 0 Silver Doubloons.
I lost track of how many I opened, but I’d say maybe 1000-1500 bags total of the ones I linked. (That is just a guess though, I did lose track)

Currently, Silver Doubloons are 40-50s a piece. Assuming that the drop of a Silver Doubloon is 1-2% (This is a rough estimate of my own experience). Buying 100 Bags at 75copper would be 75 silver for only a chance to get one (if it is a 1% chance), mind you you do get oranges and chocolate bars that sell relatively well though.

I spent all my gold cause gambling is addicting :P

Hope this helps some people.

Dogblaster and V are right: the OP forgot about the demand for these weapons. Just about any guardian (and maybe some warriors) would love Juggernaut, while thieves and rangers might rather have a different legendary than Dreamer. That’s why it’s cheap: no one cares.

In the end, there will never be parity with all weapons, and that’s fine, too. You just need to go for what you’re comfortable with grinding out, if you choose to grind yourself a legendary.

As I stated earlier, the price in the Auction House for items is irrelevant. I understand that the price reflects demand of the items.

My problem is that there is no way to specifically farm Silver Doubloons and Unidentified Dyes which are needed. There is a lack of balance on acquiring both these items compared to the other items needed for every legendary.

Furthermore, you are right. “Guardians (and maybe some warriors) would love Juggernaut”…..because they’re the ONLY ones that can use it.

While yes, Warriors are the most played Class and Guardians are the third most played, to say that Silver Doubloons cost so much because it is a high demand item due to how many Juggernauts are being made, is false.

http://www.guildwars2junkies.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/Gender-Profession-Race-Crafting-Graph-590x378.jpg

Only 2/8 classes can even use Hammers
I doubt that it is a reflection of demand and more about the lack of supply that can be obtained through farming methods.

If I’m wrong and Silver Doubloons are easy to obtain, and I’m just lazy, please share this information of how/where you were able to get more than 1 a day (from a specific mob/chest/craft),if even that.

I respect the disagreements to my opinion but at least try to look at this objectively. I am not the first to complain about being able to acquire Silver Doubloons. The same goes for Unidentified Dye.

Equipping two legendaries?

In Pokemon, Fire beats Electric. So Incinerator would take precedence.

In all seriousness though, I doubt that there would be a combination of the two, being that the likelyhood of people doing the work to acquiring two legendaries would be a small percentage that Arenanet would not see the point in programming two effects being combined. If they did end up being combined it probably wouldn’t look very good (unless they did specifically program dual animations) and there would be overlapping of one over the other.

This is supply and demand, nothing to balance here.

Correct, it is a supply and demand issue. The price of Silver Doubloons and Unidentified dyes are increased due to the inability to correctly stock the supply, thus increasing the price of the ones that are being bought.

The balancing issue isn’t the price. The price is fine, in my opinion it is cheap considering how many are actually available in circulation.

What needs to be looked at is that there is no sure way to actively farm Silver Doubloons and Unidentified Dye. Every other item has a specific node or mob that can be farmed to acquire them, this is not the case for Silver Doubloons and Unidentified Dye.

The price is irrelevant to acquisition because that goes down a different route to acquiring them that everyone has the ability to do. The problem is that not everyone wants to spend gold to make their legendary, they would rather farm the actual materials themselves.

Today: Fractal lvl 12
1st Fractal Cat-Robot, went fine no one disconnected.
2nd Fractal Charr, someone disconnects just as first gate goes down. We 4 man the rest of it with multiple wipes but we did it.
3rd Fractal Dredge, I use a repair canister, get fatal error message, come back and someone else got a game crash too.

  • Within one run, 3 people disconnected or crashed, ruining the group.

This is worst then how long it took George W. Bush to help out people in Louisiana during Hurricane Katrina.
(context: Arenanet is Bush in this scenario)

Seriously. It’s got to the point where I don’t even want to run it because of fear of wasting an hour or two on a dungeon that will not be finished, thus wasting time because Arenanet’s programmers and/or debuggers are too busy playing WoW or something to fix this.

Dogblaster, while I may not like it, you make valid points.

Just get over it. Stop looking at other legendaries, how cheaper they are and how unfair it is for you. Come on.

True, people trying to craft legendaries shouldn’t look at other legendary costs because it is like comparing apples to oranges. Your logic makes sense that while it may be unfair that someone can craft Kudzu easier than Juggernaut, they both are different legendaries that people want (As you said you went for Juggernaut because the Shield is easier to get making the Hammer more appealing)

Also .. I am farming with one mate, hes going for Sunrise. He had to buy precursor for 250 gold and now he has to farm 100x charged lodestones, you think hes complaining? No, he knows that is the price for prestigue and unique weapon.

I disagree with you here though. While yes, your friend does have to farm 100 charged lodestones, those have a specific drop from mobs and can be farmed.
This is why I disagree with the way things currently are.

I have leveled 6x 80 lvl. Stop complaining here .. 2 of my guild mates are going for The Juggernaut too and they have all the doubloons. I bought Doubloons from TP in one evening and believe me, there was like 150 availible when I put the first offers in.

While I commend your tenacity to craft it, I feel that here in lies the problem, you had to use the Auction House to purchase your Silver Doubloons, while your friend is given the ability to farm them without issue (as well as everyone that is going for most other legendaries)
If i was a gambling man, I’d venture to say that everyone that has crafted Juggernaut has used the Auction House or took donations from their guild to acquire their Silver Doubloons.

I just would like a way to acquire items at the same rate that everyone else does with their respective legendaries, even if its similar to Orichalcum Ore and there being only (x amount) of Chests in the world that will give you Silver Doubloons a day.

The amount of wood needed for crafting is used less by the crafting profession(s) than ore.

Wood is only used for Artifice, Huntsman and Weaponsmith.
Ore is used for Armorsmith, Huntsman, Weaponsmith and Artifice.
Same goes for cooking and plants.

I agree. Gift of nature is way easier to farm than gift of color. I think the dyes I can make from cooking should count to make it a little bit more balanced

if there was a recipe to craft the silver doubloons(probably in jewelcrafting since you already need jewelry for the juggernaut recipes anyways). I’d be perfectly okay with the requirements. It doesn’t make sense that jewelers can make gold doubloons(from silver doubloons), but we can’t make silver or platinum doubloons.

This is my major gripe. Trying to craft Juggernaut there is no way to essentially farm a mob that drops these on a regular basis (the same goes for unidentified dye). It seems that Transmorgify silver and platinum doubloons were left out (my cynicism says to intentionally make this more difficult purposely), but it doesn’t seem fair that if someone is crafting one legendary that they will have an easier time farming their legendary specific gift.

The fact that cooking coincides as a requirement with the Bifrost gift and Jewelcrafting coincides as a requirement with the Juggernaut gift shows that their original intentions were to give those crafting professions to be able to make those items. If not, then why even have a requirement for the profession? And why have chefs be able to make dyes but not unidentifed, and jewelers be able to make gold but not silver doubloons?

I used the price of obtaining Unicorn Statue for Dreamer and Vial of Quicksilver for Juggernaut as examples of difficulty of obtaining. I personally would rather farm the materials. Price does not always reflect difficulty to obtain, but makes a good foundation of the difficulty. (Lower droprate items = Higher price)

The issue I have is that the playing field is not level.
Look at Gift of Water and Gift of Ice and tell me that those are on par with difficulty to farm the items compared to Gift of Nature.

Legendaries with unbalanced difficulties

Pig.5827

Each Legendary uses Gift of Mastery and Gift of Fortune along with the respective gift for the legendary. There seems to be unfair difficulties for certain legendaries as opposed to others.
For example, with current prices, to make the Unicorn statue for the Dreamer, it would cost (at current auction prices) 17g. While, the Juggernaut’s Vial of Quicksilver would cost a little over 200g to make.

While antagonists would say: “Well stop being lazy and just farm the items.”This is easier said then done. There are multiple discrepancies with the ability to obtain certain items as opposed to others as well as the factor of the droprate. Certain items do not have a specific mob that will drop the item you are trying to acquire, such as Silver Doubloon or Unidentified Dye.
While Legendary items are meant to be difficult to obtain and be for only the exalted few, I feel it is a bit disheartening that that is not the case for every legendary. It is not Arenanet’s job to control the price of items in the Black Lion Trading House, but the way to acquire certain items needs to be looked at.

Here’s a list of the Legendaries and their specific item needed to craft their gift.

Juggernaut: Vial of Quicksilver:
250 Steel Ingot
150 Molten Lodestone
250 Silver Doubloon
1 Gift of the Forgeman

I want to be pleasant and assume that Arenanet is working diligently to get this fixed asap, but I have my reservations being that if this issue was something that was exploiting the Black Lion Trading House then it would be hotfixed asap.

Source: The issue with Precursors being easily made from buying the bugged priced karma weapons and forging them.

No one wants to waste time in Fractals and miss out on loot because of an issue like this. Fire or hire people if you need to get this fixed, preferably fire, light them on fire.

If you are thinking about making a warrior but are afraid they’re going to be boring it sounds like you’ve already made a predetermined opinion on how the class will be.

Anytime anyone wants to know how a profession plays I always suggest they go into structured PvP or WvW to kill players or monsters to get a good reference of what it will be like at higher levels.

I’ve never been anything but Greatsword, Rifle, and Hammer. Since you plan on being ranged what I can comment on is that Rifle is “decent”. I’m not a big fan of ranged, but its essential when things start getting bad and you need some space. The damage seems low compared to the other weapons and the cooldowns are long making it monotonous.

My personal opinion is if you want to be range, don’t be a warrior. Have you thought of trying out the engineer? A lot more fun if you like being range.

I agree it is a little dissatisfying to see the Greatsaw greatsword get such a detailed graphic and a similar weapon like the One handed saw look like it was put together hastily in comparison.
This is speculation on my part but given how people act when they have to wait for anything, (Look at the release of Act 1 and how many people were crying about a delay) it’s possible that Arenanet might have been more concerned with releasing the patch then focusing on creating something as flashy as the Greatsaw.

I’m sorry I can’t hear you over the sound of my chainsaw.

I actually agree. My first character to 80 was an Engineer. After seeing the legendary pistol (confetti gun) and legendary rifle (slightly cooler but not worth the time imo), I leveled a warrior just because end game is all about aesthetics.

Now, while some people do argue that flashiness isn’t that important. I know people that think that weapons should not be as big as they are and that the trail of sparkles is distasteful.

While it may be hard to appease everyone with the graphics of something, some are more eye-catching due to their size and what can be done to make it flashy. You are going to notice the trail of glitter from the legendary Greatswords before you notice the laser from the legendary Rifle. Bigger weapons also have more to work with, so they are more noticeable.

My advice is play the character you enjoy before getting caught up in the glamour of the shinies. Arenanet will be more apt to come out with new graphics for weapon types before changing the playstyle of class.

A little frustrating that this is just now getting answered. During time when people were running The Mad King Dungeon there was a lot of people that had asked this question in the forums and did not get a direct answer. (Along with Diminishing returns effecting chests as well).

I understand that it isn’t Arenanet’s job to give out their formulas on how things work in the game, but during the sprint to obtain Halloween items, time is important as it can be easily wasted by not managing it correctly (such as running a dungeon repeatedly and saying that loot is unlucky rather than a diminished return or kittening your damage by having 5 party members in magic find gear to increase their odds on better drops.).

If this was answered before, i apologize, I had not seen it nor had anyone I had talked to.

Yesterday I ran Mad King Dungeon at least 28 times (I took a screenshot every loot because in case Greatsaw Greatsword drops I’d like to be able to verify it to people).
There seems to be a lot of disagreement as to whether it drops or any of the NON-craftable weapons for that matter and people are saying “skins drop” when they mean the halloween exotics drop.

And because this is the internet anyone who wants to know anything usually gets someone that has to complain about a question.
In my honest opinion I don’t think you can get Greatsaw directly from The mad king dungeon chest. (Also might be miscommunication being that there is the http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mad_King_Chest that you can craft which is probably why people who say they got it from the Mad King chest, are probably referring to the Mystic forge one).

Until someone verifies that the Black lion chest non-craftable weapons drop directly from the dungeon chest I think its safe to say they don’t. Anyone who disagrees and says “I got a cousin out in Utah who got 7 of ’em his first try!” Tell your cousin to post a screenshot.

FAQs about Mad King Dungeon chest

Pig.5827

There has been a lot of questions that have been asked but have not actually been verified by Arenanet. This thread is in the hopes that someone from the Arenanet team can answer these or someone can verify it with a source.

The most asked questions are:

1. Does Magic Find effect the Mad King Dungeon chest?

2. Do diminishing returns actually effect the Mad King Dungeon chest?

3. While it has been proven that you can get Arachnophobia, The Mad Moon and The Crossing. Can you get the actual non-crafted skins from the Mad King Dungeon chest? (Greatsaw, Grinning Shield, Scythe Staff, etc.)

4. Is it possible to get a Precursor Legendary from the Mad King Dungeon chest?

It is understandable that the idea of it being a mystery adds to the effect of finding out for yourself, but wasting time trying to get an item that could possibly not even be part of that loot table is hindering the player trying to acquire that item.

These questions being answered will put to rest all of the theories and assumptions. A lot of people want specific items and would like to know if doing the Mad King Dungeon is the best route to take.

(This is not a post complaining about the rate of drops. It is about verification of how the chest works.)

Feel free to add any other questions.

I agree that rare items should be rare.
But it was a little unethical on Arenanet’s part to promote people to spend money on keys for the first 2 acts to get skins, and then coming out with a different way to obtain the skins that is essentially free.

It’s like charging a guy to cross a bridge when there is a free boat that comes by.

This could have been done two different ways to reduce anger in players:
1. Have some sort of way to work up to get what you want. (Such as tokens which seem to work pretty well)
2. Give players information so they can plan accordingly. Would the people that bought a bunch of keys spent all that money if they would have known that there would be an easier way in the future?

But then again, it seems like games are heading in the direction of money.

I would like proof is due to the fact that the Greatsaw is something I would like to acquire prior to the end of the events (Many people feel the same). If this was going on indefinitely I wouldn’t be so concerned.

The reason why this answer is pertinent is the limited time frame to farm this dungeon. If it does not drop I would much rather spend my time farming gold to buy it off the Auction House.

There is also flaw to your logic. If someone was to run it, they’re not guaranteed to get one. I ran it 20 times. It didn’t drop. Statistically it may never drop for me. So therefore if it doesn’t drop for me then it doesn’t drop for anyone?

I don’t think that asking for proof of someones claim is that big of a deal. There was a thread of people with screenshots/in-game links of the boots that dropped from the Clock tower chest as soon as they got them. People are inquisitive by nature, so its a valid request.

That is helpful being that it is “actually” considered a skin. While I’m glad people got the craftable ones, a lot of people were calling the craftable ones “skins”. Which they aren’t technically skins. They’re the actual weapons.

Mad King > Headless Horseman.

In WoW the fight took place in the graveyard at Scarlet Monastery. There was a lot of obstacles that made it kind of irritating because he would often run off and you would have to chase after him.
Having to chase after his head was quite annoying too along with the fact that his body was immune during that time. I dont know how they do it now, but you also killed him 5 times (once for each person that summoned him) which was a little monotonous. The fight wasn’t very engaging.

With the Mad King the fight is pretty epic (that might just be new car smell though). The downside in my opinion is the random teleportation (I could understand if he just went down at 75% to the middle and the bottom at 25%) but going from top, to middle, to bottom, to middle, etc. is kind of annoying (even though as someone that doesn’t want to die, having a linear path doesn’t make a whole lot of sense). But as a lot of people complained, they missed the chest for what I’m assuming would be a reason like this (My first kill he died in the middle platform).
The way down by jumping is a little annoying. I think a way to go down and back up the same way would have been better than porting to the top to go to the middle and such.

TL;DR:
Headless Horseman rating: 3/10
Mad King rating: 8/10

There has been a lot of people claiming that they or people have received item skins such as (Greatsaw, Scythe, and Grinning Shield). It would be nice if someone has a screenshot of receiving one of the non-craftable skins from the chest.

What loot did you get for the Mad King dungeon?

Best thing i got was some exotic gloves.
Decent item was a Dye pack that had ((White Gold dye) and (Pumpernickle dye)) or something lame)
ran it about 20 times, nothing super good.
*Edit: I also got a key, which was a nice 2nd try at getting something good like a Greatsaw, but got mystery tonics and a frowny face.

Can we get some screenshots of people getting the skins that aren’t the crafted ones (Greatsaw, Scythe, Grinning Shield). Not calling anyone a liar, but would like to know whether farming it is beneficial to obtaining them, or farming gold would be better to get them.

Will there be recipes for crafting other Halloween exotics?

There is a lot of evidence that solidifies your argument of them not being craftable such as:

The Grinning Ghastly Shield (from chest) is a different than The Mad Moon craftable.
The Scythe Staff (from chest) is different than The Crossing.
(If new crafting ones were coming out in later Acts then they would probably be the same)

The Halloween crafting materials are spread out to seem like that there would not be more. (The Crossing: 100 Nougat Centers, Arachnophobia: 100 Plastic Fangs, The Mad Moon: 100 Chattering Skulls).

The vendor that sells the 4 hour skins only sells the ones that can also be crafted. If the vendor sold the other chest skins then it would seem more probable.

My hope lies in the fact that there are 8 different types of dungeon tokens that only 3 have been used to make the ones that can be crafted. (Ascalon Tears, Deadly Blooms, and Knowledge Crystals).

After looking at Arachnophobia, The Mad Moon and The Crossing. Will there be the ability to craft the other weapons? Such as Greatsaw Greatsword and Chain Sword 1h?

This is my own speculation but:
Arachnophobia uses 500 Ascalonian Tears.
The Mad Moon uses 500 Deadly Blooms.
The Crossing uses 500 Knowledge Crystals.

I was assuming that with the other dungeons and the skins that are in the game that with the other Acts of Halloween opening that we would be able to learn new Gifts to create the other skins also that would use the tokens from other dungeons.

If that is not the case it’d be nice to know so players could plan accordingly to save up to buy the skin from purchasing keys or purchasing the skin off the Auction House.
