Besides WvW league there is nothing of importance to me.
Spvp got nothing.
This game is almost dead to me. Wildstar cant come fast enough.

Thinking back i did almost down him quick one fight when i used a lot of stealth early and had phantasms out. I didnt shatter them though. As he shadowed and re opened.

I hope i can run into more fights like it. I want to duel and 1vx at a higher level than my thief.

Used to use this build in spvp in hotjoin and duel server’s with great success. Been dueling in WvW a lot during these blowout matches. Specced into this and was killing everything until I ran into a Perplex Thief using PD, PP.

I’ll just say I got wrecked 3 times in a row and was puzzled. I’d get 5to 8 stacks of confuse on me really fast. 1 time it was like 12 stacks plus all the other damage he did. So i had to try to cleanse and hurt myself or just sit there and get wrecked. I did better the last 2 times with blocks and flurry but the thief still found ways to get stacks on me then pew pew me once my evades were on cd.

I even switched to mantra heal and cleanse had them recharged but it wasn’t enough. I did almost down him as I went down with phantasm damage but that was too late. When my phanty’s did there big burst he had instinctual response so he stealthed.
I main a thief as well so know all there moves and still just got beat.

Any advice on this matchup or against any of the classes that can abuse those runes? I really dislike those runes.

So ive been looking for an affordable build switch from shatter and this looked good on paper.

I did a couple different gear choices. Also i really wanted to include torch with prestige and more condi removal so i took torch trait.

I have almost same stats. Little less condi damage but more tough and power.

In 3 hours i did very well and had a blast. Thanks for posting this.

Look at rune 6 piece when in combat. It greys out. I do think its in combat only.

Its fine. Still worth it to me. I love having a free utility to use different skills.

Dont forget you have to have 20 people jump on his corpse when your done too…

I play a thief as well as all other professions too. Each has it’s strong points and I see crying about them in each forum, from other players unable to deal with it. It would seem there will all ways be players that feel they deserve to be all powerful and understanding most games of this ilk is a larger form of rock, paper, scissors.

I have played other games that involved stealth, and in this game stealth is very weak compared. The best game I played many years ago that dealt with stealth was LOTRO (Lord of the Rings Online) in my humble opinion. In that game they gave a Ranger the utility to see and tag for set time frame those in stealth.

Something could be done similar a ranger if pet alive (as pets use other senses) can tag those in stealth no matter range. Ele could have a utility that allows to see movement in a mist around them in say 150. Mesmer can detect the mind of another nearby..etc.etc..

That way if players are so concerned they can juggle a Utility or make sure an Ally has, thus giving them fore warning. Also if such Utility is being used thief gets a message saying “you feel as if your being watched”. This makes the tactical exchange more riveting but also allowing for skill and counter measures.

Very cool ideas. I like the thought process. Rock paper scissors.

These changes are just baffling. 2 different cooldowns for a skill? What?!!?!

I can live with most but this RTL “fix” is so broken I can’t even understand the thought.

It’s been said time and time again that if they buffed the other weapons, fire, air and earth that more people would be inclined to move away from bunker DD.

These changes make it even worse. I have shelfed my ele for over a month now. It’s just not fun to me anymore compared to my other toons

Pistol hasnt been mentioned.

Also dual swords is amazing in small scale or 1v1 pvp. Sword 4 has saved my bacon against thieves more than i can count.

I tried this out today. Smashed some thieves. Got a necro in a tie. Beat an engineer.

Then got destroyed by a dd ele. So bad i retraited to dd bunker my variant and destroyed him.

It was stated theres some hard counters. Im sure i need to l2p more. All in all very fun. I just want scepter to get some quality of life fixes. Dragons tooth and more aoe to start. If not more aoe then harder or easier to hit fire moves.

Ether renewal all the time now. In a panic can pop it then mist form to full health and wipe away everything.

I think the build my buddy runs is even more frustrating. Its a Sb/ sword torch build. Its based off a Wvw build made to 1 v many. Trust me it works for good players. Very frustrating to fight as a dd ele bunker. He had lots of heals and a couple bursts. Im sure its a L2p on my part but its a tough build to fight. Lots of cc which sucks for dd ele.

What i found out with my thief tho is its susceptible to burst. I won 2/3 with thief. I am much bstter with ele than thief so its puzzling me.

Dont feel bad if u run into a tough matchup. Usually theres a counter. Also you have to be open to changing your play or habits. In the end it makes u better.

Just tried this for a few. Omg. Ridiculous. I was ownong a dd ele. Got him to 10 pct and he ran away.

Then fought a bunker engineer. He was trying to kite my phantasms across whole map. He dies too. Ao funny.

Im sure i wasnt even playing that well. I forgot to do any shattwring or use the illusion signet

Im at work and having trouble finding the difference between heavy and mist. I see u use the shorter cd heal but from the vids cant see any other difference.

What page if any lists differences between heavy and mist? I think it was in one of the middle pages of this thread.

Also is there no variation that uses focus? I do switch it in to keep up but it gets tiresome switching it in and out over a long session.

Switch first major trait in chaos to “shorter cooldowns for manipulationskills” = More blinks ( i think)
I miss “/equip xxx” from wow, if Only anet was’t so against macros.

When i got home i saw the differences. I like it. I had been using the mirror heal already. Shorter cd and with all the shatters hardly got that heal bonus.

With lower cd on decoy its definetly useful. I may just situationally use portal and keep mirror images. Ill play around with that slot.

Those hylek pots got nerfed and unusable in WVw from what i hear. I tried finding them to test the other day but couldnt find them.

I tried golem in a box that didnt work in Wvw

Mesmer needs some swiftness love bad. Getting annoying equipping focus just to keep up. I run dual swords or pistol. So equip focus here and there to not keep up with my thief and guardian friends.

How about speed in a signet like almost any other class.

I run runes of the air and staff blink too and its just not enough

I cant seem to remember or find the answer.

Does shatter cat original have more swiftness uptime? I am loving heavy but even with runes of air, staff blinking and util blink i fall behind the group farther than id like. Usually run with eles theifs and guards
I know i wont keep up with the thief or ele but would like to stay vloser.

Ill have to watch ouy of combat movement vid again too.

I have been running d\p for quite awhile. This build seems great with the gear Yishi has but not my more typical zerk valk knight setup.

I have a ele and mesmer if i want to grind out fights. For my thief i want to blow people up and escape when needed. I run 10-30-30-0-0 and it works very well for that.

Sigh im sure shadow tree and pistol is next on the nerf block….

I was intrigued watching the vid at work. So i tried the spec with my gear. Which is mostly valk armor rest zerker and allbut one zerker trinkets.

No ascended no divinity. Only 1 knight trinket.
Im sure it was a lot of l2p but ive been using d/p for quite awhile in my normal shadow crit build pretty well. My other thief friend had similar issues. Seemed like lack of any real burst and not quite durable enough. Our crit rates werent high enough and lack toughness and some vit.

Seems like a great build but i wont try again until i get a set of gear more in tune with the build

The first day or 2 after reset I usually avoid Wvw. Im on JQ so our tier zergs the best. Sigh..

Usually impossible to get into small skirmishes. It can be hard to a lot of the time. Ita been worse sunce they added the ranking. Thats why i took the break and time to level mesmer.

My buddy was 1v3 with his ranger friday before the reset so im pumped to get in there with my mesmer today.

I just need to craft a pistol another sword and 4-5 pieces of gear. If i dont have the mats for armor ill use some karma til i grind cof or wvw badges.

I have spent a lot of gold on this toon craft leveling and gearing. Lol

I was a little confused on the ascended amulet u listed for shatter original. You put V. I assumed valkyrie. I got the Godrock one. Seemed stats were closest. More zerker tho with only 18 vitality on shard.

I just want to tank u for all the awesome vids and info in this thread. I have literally read every page and watched every video at work on breaks and home.

I am a new mesmer kind of. Was my most played toon in spvp the first month but stuck to PVE where my ele and thief were already 80.

I have a Dd ele and a thief. I have done well with those toons. Im very bored of the ele. Thief not so much but ive always wanted to level mesmer after my spvp days at launch. Finally did it this week.

I am going to start with the shatter heavy build. Seems more forgiving to start. But i want to gear more for the normal since once i get things down i will switch to that. I run in small groups of 2-5 people with thieves warriors and eles. We hit and run fast and hard so i cant wait to run both builds.

All those moves have much longer cooldowns than any melee users gap closers. Also the effects are pitiful.

I play a thief and have never had a staff ele slow me down for more than 2 seconds. The only time one ever got away was dropping air 5 well right next to their base.

Staff needs love. I’m no expert but there is no denying it. I don’t care for zerging at all so it never gets used by me.

I avoid zergs like the plague unless no friends are on. We hunt for other skilled small groups that roam. Im in T1 and yes we zerg the best but there are some good roamers.

After watching this it makes scepter look more viable. Atm i kind of hate scepter buy figured it was an aquired taste and would need to change the build and gear not just gear.

Id like to see a link or vid of full gear, traits food and stat breakdown. Some of those crits were very nice!!

I agree with this in a whole. It is much harder to kite in this game with a staff than other mmo.

They dont have to go cheap with more stuns but can add more slows to our enemys and give us the blinks that mesmer got or run speed that dd ele has.

Staff just isnt right.

I am glad to see more theorycrafting going on. I am so bored of my ele. I havent changed traits much but have tried lots of armor and weapons.

U hit one of our major issues. When we go too higher offense we lose so much hp and defense we are so squishy its stupid.

I also have a thief but have been playing it way more in wvw. Its role is much more clear and i succeed and have more fun. I either go glass and blow people up r shadow art semi glass crit and still blow most up or stealth and evade.

On ele it feels i just tag and stun or run from zergs. I do well with standard dd but honestly it isnt that hard. I would like a high reward build or 2 to play with.

This games ele just doesnt capture a mage feel to me like other mmo.

I will be following threads like these and hope Anet see a lot of eles are bored with the norm. If we had more viable ranged options there would be a lot less dd eles

Ok im not the only one who has noticed culling and lag being worse tonite.

Its so bad ill be 1v1 stomping then 10 guys appear and insta gib. I dont see them til they are almost in melee range.

I do blame nvidia and Anet. They need to get this figured out. Us users also have to maintain. Keep an open patient mind about hardware and software.

I’m not out to prove anything. I started posting in here to see if i can help anyone. Not gonna be definitive at all. The things i did seemed to help me. If it helps one other person i am glad.

I dont have a 570… I am not overheating. Oh and I rolled back to 304 driver and no crashes at all. Been fine and dandy for 2 days. Amazing how that can happen if my computer is just a broken pile.

From my experience it was nvidia and Gw2 problems going on. Obviously everyones problems can be different.

I tried 306.23, 306.63 and 306.97. 97 was awful. 63. wasnt much better. 23 was usable but still occasional crash. Have gone back to 304.79 and no crash or bsod yet in a few hours. seems its a mixed bag. some have had no issues while others have had nightmares like me.

no issues in any other games. bf3 bkacklight, tribes all fine. my sts row 3 had some file problems but after repair was fine. For me Gw2 was fine for 3 weeks then a disaster last couple. It all started with new updates and drivers. Usually i just stick with a driver for months. Guess ill stick with that mentality.

I have had similar issues last couple weeks. I did have an hdd go out around same time but took it out and reinstalled windows After fresh install and newest drivers it was fine until the Oct 7 patch. then random crashong ensued.

After googling my issues many people have had this just pop up over last week or 2. Random game crashes bsod. Now i find it hard to believe all these peoples systems just had catastrphic failures with hardware. There is something wrong thats a fact. part is nvidias fault too. we need a stable driver for gw2. its been out over a month already.

i had no issues until these last couple updates and updating to the 306 drivers. i tried the 306.97 and it was a joke. multiple crashes in a short time. so i have rolled back to the 304.79 drivers and haven’t crashed yet. also underclocked my card some thinking the superclock isnt stable in gw2.

To sum it up I’m tired of admins and others trying to say everyone with an issue has bad hardware. All these peoples issues are with this game and popped up around the same time.

I agree. The zergfest has gotten annoying. The thing that kept me going in Star wars was the 1v1s 1v2, 2v2s that we would get in at far points. Rarely happens here. You start those fights then the zerg comes. Very annoying.

Also tourneys aren’t much better. It’s just a bunch of Thief, mesmer, guardian teams and all the other cheesy crap. IDK this game needs some serious TLC to last. As of now there are A LOT of problems.
