Rebalancing the Scale-down Feature

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Pjwned.3601

Pjwned.3601

Even if it was balanced properly there wouldn’t be much point to working on it since the zones are dead because they’re uninteresting and largely pointless.

This game should’ve been designed to hit the level cap early on just like the original Guild Wars so that there weren’t so many pointless areas, but it’s a little late for that now. The dynamic events are just as boring & uninspired as they were since the game launched over 2 years ago with many of them frequently being broken, so that doesn’t help either.

Direct trades would only be beneficial with the additional existence of the trading post, but everybody against it always goes “MUH SPAMADAN” and “MUH TRADE SCAMS” and as a result we have an MMO where trading with other players is a hassle; it’s hard to manage that unless you really try to be as incompetent as possible.

I don’t really see how it would matter because you refuse to fix the glaring flaws in the game like terrible optimization, extremely lacking skill system, bad dungeons with boring damage sponge bosses, and many other issues, a lot of which have been plaguing the game since release i.e two YEARS ago now.

However I agree that on the 2nd and later runs, all dialog should be skippable in some form. Perhaps a waypoint you can go to to declare “I don’t want to listen to this again” and then it skips it all. Similar to how you can skip talking to your friends in the first instance, but for the entire conversations instead.

Reminds me of the annoying, unskippable intro scene in Culling of Stratholme from WoW: lich king. People complained that it was boring and annoying, especially when doing multiple runs to get bronze drake mounts for people, so Blizzard eventually let players skip the whole scene after seeing it a whole bunch of times.

The point is though, since ANet went the way they did with achievements and repeatable story missions I’m really surprised they didn’t take a page from Blizzard’s book and do something similar, it really does get annoying sitting through forced cutscenes and dialogues multiple times just because you’re expected to go back repeatedly to get more rewards.

Is season 2 going to be a repeat of season 1?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Pjwned.3601

Personally I’m not looking forward to another year+ of horrible stories, generally bad content, and fundamental issues & broken promises finally being addressed near the end of it all wrapped in a “feature pack” despite numerous player complaints for months on end to get to it sooner.

Here’s hoping ANet proves me wrong, but I’m not too optimistic when those updated skills & dungeons that were mentioned over a year ago still haven’t happened. There are still a number of things that need to be improved as well, so if they get sidelined for another year-long crapfest I’m going to be even more disappointed.

Would it be bad for the AI to be smarter?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Pjwned.3601

The original Guild Wars actually had some pretty good AI for mobs, so good in fact that it warranted turning it off until the planned hard mode came not too much later where mobs were back to avoiding AoE, using skills reasonably well including heals and interrupts, not spreading out damage too much unless they had some hard hitting AoE themselves, etc.

Of course, most of the time if you expect something good from the original game to have stayed then the answer is it didn’t.

Trait hunting is terribly unfun

This just highlights how boring and crappy most events are, it just leads to the majority of zones being dead even with megaservers active because nobody wants to do them so then it’s even worse.

like the idea, but not a fan of the execution (i say this a lot about Anet)…….since the requirements send you to content 10-20+ lvls higher than the level you are when you can get the trait.

you end up just buying the traits from vendors as you go…which is fine if you’re an experienced player who knows what traits to take and has a bankroll. for a new player, though, the system is HORRIBLE and discourages experimenting with different builds.

they need to tweak the requirements. for example: all major adept traits should send you to lvl 30-40 zones/events.

I could be wrong but that might be a hint that you should branch out into other trait paths if you can’t get the ones you want because the requirement is too high.

Still, I’m not really familiar with the woes of unlocking traits at lower levels yet, and I do pretty much agree it sounds dumb.

I have to wonder why anybody would buy gauntlet tickets from the merchant, they’re horribly overpriced if you’re just going to use them on Liadri who will likely wipe you over and over.

My only real gripe is that the time limit can be really harsh unless you do the first phase almost perfectly, which is mostly just trial & error because it starts (essentially) the same way every time and it’s pretty difficult to deal damage to Lidari while running around trying to heal and dodging visions & red fields.

It would be nice if the turrets didn’t spawn so far away from her, maybe a slight turret health nerf or healing nerf would be nice as well, but the main thing is how far away the turrets are planted. It would also be nice if she had some sort of distinguishable animation for it because as far as I can tell the turrets just pop up out of the ground instantly from ~5,000 range away.

Aside from the healing turret making the fight really tedious, it’s not very fun or interesting because other than that you just dodge bombs, easily the worst pavilion champ by far.

Reminder: Personal Story is horrible

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Pjwned.3601

Pjwned.3601

The personal story might not have been as awful if it weren’t for the atrociously bad cutscenes popping up constantly and completely ruining the flow of the scenario in every single mission. The original Guild Wars didn’t have any of that crap and it actually managed to have a decent if not great story, although I did think Prophecies was pretty cool.

If there’s one thing I hope they change in presenting the story going forward, it’s not using those HORRIBLE cutscenes anymore, they are just irredeemably bad. Claw Island is a perfect example of how to use cutscenes in every possible way that’s wrong, nothing like having your epic battle interrupted by some stupid crap instead of actually SHOWING what’s going on with the game itself, not to mention the cutscenes crawl along at a snail’s pace if you don’t hit the skip button.

Actually, now that I think about it I’m obviously wrong about the cutscenes in GW1 because there were a number of them, but they all took place within the game engine and they were pretty sparse unlike the several annoying, boring, crappy cutscene windows that pop up for each personal story quest and completely ruin the flow on top being just plain bad.

Build Template System - Incoming?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Pjwned.3601

Pjwned.3601

We even had equipment templates for PvP in the original game so if we don’t get any templates of any kind, but most importantly skill/trait templates, I’m going to be sorely disappointed.

I wouldnt hold my breath, Their pvp tech reduced stats and combinations, supposedly so there is less data, so from a basic data stance, they seem to be no closer.
Of course that maybe marketing speak, but thats what they said.

Not only that but pvp apparently uses a different info for stats. Our actual stats arent considered.

the major issue with build templates, they havent tackled, is the equipment factor. Ideally a template system should also swap gear (since build is heavily gear based in this game) but a gear swap system would kind of needs equipment to be stored in seperate inventory, or have stats as unlocks. Either system seems like its not something they have considered yet, and neither works perfectly with transmutation system, though they could kinda fit in.

People tended to just store extra equipment in their bags in the original game and they had quite a bit less bag space to work with. That being said though, there wasn’t very much need to swap equipment around either (which was a good thing) since your build relied on skills & attributes far more than it did on gear, which was only really changed by inscriptions & runes.

I’m giving them some credit for at least stopping to fix and change a bunch of stuff that needed to be changed finally, but given their track record so far I’m not incredibly optimistic about further changes that are needed like revamping skills, events, dungeons, etc.

It’s better than them continuing with the living story crapfest and ignoring all these issues, but that’s still not saying much. I was more excited when ANet said they wanted to make dungeons better and maybe add some more skills (after being thoroughly and irreversibly disappointed with the game’s release) but that was practically a year ago now and all we got were some awful healing skills and that was it. I’ll wait until more of these things are fixed before I start singing praises because even though I would really like to appreciate the game more, it’s taken forever to get even some basic changes going.

Feedback/Questions: The Wardrobe System

Wow, account bound dyes are REALLY EXCITING, I sure love it when broken promises are finally made up for well over a year later!

Better late than never I suppose, and I will give ANet a miniscule amount of credit for making transmutation stones actually worth anything with the 3:1 conversion, but it should’ve been like that a long time ago; again, better late than never though.

“Broken promise”?
Seriously?
There was one point MONTHS before release where they talked about account-bound dyes (in a system that was MUCH worse than the current one) but that was changed months BEFORE release, and quite clearly told. Including the reasons for it.

It was changed because they were too lazy to put it in at release much like other basic features like events that actually work, a LFG system, being able to see anything happening in WvW, etc.

The game is dependent on skins, it is not your usual gear focused game where skins are nothing but one more lame feature. The payment is there to make it a challenge anyhow to change your looks.

Not only is it good for the company because this is actually a job and they want money but also it is highly argueable if the system becomes better if it is totally free to use. Yea, you will be happy jumping around now, however, easy content, never work and people eventually lose total interest because they don’t feel rewarded.

This way, collecting the skin and actually using it, feel more of an accomplishment eventhough it is only cosmetic, but hey, this is the point of gw2 to be cosmetic.

The accomplishment should be there by finally being able to acquire the skin, not by adding artificial grind on top of content that already relies on grinding the same stupid crap. Other games have some sort of challenging & interesting content so you can get those rare weapons or armor pieces (see: the original Guild Wars) but who needs that when we have the living story instead.

It’s a good start I guess but with the new system and being able to easily refund traits are we going to get skill templates finally? This was a thing years ago in the original Guild Wars and I’m really amazed it’s not a thing already, but I guess I’m not surprised either considering how little else from the original game made it in; that’s a bad thing if you can’t take a hint by the way.

I would prefer they put it on indefinite hiatus and fix the dozens of fundamental problems like poor game optimization, bad dungeons, dead zones everywhere, bad events, needless grind instead of actual endgame content, a severe lack of skills for every class, extremely lacking PvP, atrociously awful story, horrible class balance, broken events & numerous bugs everywhere…

I could go on, the game needs fixing but I doubt ANet will listen because they sure as hell haven’t for some time now, instead choosing to pump out more living story content that’s almost universally reviled despite a huge number of complaints posted on these forums the whole time.

I just came to trash the latest living story content and wasn’t disappointed to see threads popping up almost immediately to do the same.

What I find ironic is that NOW we’re going to get “expansion-like updates” after the living story crapfest for over a year, but if ANet had just focused on those updates before the living story then every single thing they’ve done post launch would have been much more well received.

I heard a rumor that more elite skills are coming out soon? Excellent, we could have used those A LONG TIME AGO, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg of things that should have been done instead of forcing stupid, poorly written content on everybody despite massive complaints from the community since the beginning. Where are those dungeon updates and added skills that were mentioned a year ago? Oh right, nowhere.

The problem is that being able to easily respec your skills and traits actually creates a problem of people switching their builds around like crazy for each type of pull when your builds is still supposed to matter. This system worked a lot better in the first game because everything was instanced and cities/outposts were the clearly designated area for you to get new equipment or skills or heroes or whatever, but in Guild Wars 2 everything is (for the most part) an open world so there would have to be some arbitrary location for you to be able to swap skills around, but where would it be in an open world?

I’m not saying it couldn’t work and I definitely miss having skill templates but it’s not so simple to implement in this game because it’s so fundamentally different.

Pjwned.3601

I don’t know if this has been suggested before (I imagine it has) but I really don’t understand why renown hearts don’t give karma when a big way of spending karma is doing renown hearts and buying rewards from the NPC. Relying on dynamic events only is stupid, especially when a lot of them are literally BROKEN.

In the same vein, karma rewards from renown heart NPCs shouldn’t cost nearly as much as they do considering how easy it is to get a reward, go to a slightly higher area in the same zone, and do another renown heart and find you could’ve gotten a better reward. In fact ideally this system would just be reworked entirely, but I’m just asking for simple solutions.

Why not have NCSoft IDs for accounts?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Pjwned.3601

Pjwned.3601

If your system is compromised it does not matter one bit how you login to the game.

It’s entirely possible that only your game account info would be compromised, whether by design of the virus or catching it after your account info is compromised but before your e-mail info is compromised.

And? The whole point of using that single-purpose email is that it doesn’t matter if it gets compromised.

This makes absolutely no sense, if your account info AND e-mail info is compromised that’s a lot worse than having only your account info compromised. The only reason I don’t want my e-mail compromised is to keep my account more secure, except the way it is now that’s more difficult than it should be because of how I log in to the game.

If you factor in other security measures, such as authenticators, the differences between the two types of usernames becomes so insignificant that the email should be used simply because you’re more likely to remember it.

I considered that and I don’t think it’s insignificant or I wouldn’t have made the thread.

Either way I just figured it wouldn’t be hard to implement since that’s how user names were handled in Guild Wars for a time. It also wouldn’t need to be mandatory if people would rather use their e-mail to log in instead, but I obviously would rather not.

Thank you for extended balance explanations.

Why not have NCSoft IDs for accounts?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Pjwned.3601

Here’s what I mean.

Example 1, as it is now: Some undesirable finds out your account information somehow or another, say a keylogger that doesn’t get detected right away. They automatically know what e-mail address it’s registered to so they can attempt (and quite possibly succeed, especially if you don’t use a different password) to log in to your e-mail as well and have free reign with your account.

Example 2, as it would be: Some undesirable finds out your account information somehow or another. However, since they would only know a semi-random user name instead of the e-mail it’s registered to, they would somehow need to find out your e-mail as well to get past authentication or do much of anything, unlike now where finding out the account info automatically means finding out the e-mail address.

The NCSoft account name was never actually used for anything, except to login to the NCSoft master account website.

Except that’s wrong, I remember using my NCSoft ID to log into Guild Wars and that’s why I brought it up, I thought (and obviously still think) it was better that way.

If you wanted to, you could always register your account under a unique email

That’s what I did, the problem is that the way it is now they automatically know what my e-mail address is if they find out my login information somehow.

I’m not sure if this has been brought up before, but personally I thought my Guild Wars account was more secure when my login info didn’t explicitly reveal the e-mail address it’s registered to. If somebody found out my account info on Guild Wars (which they never did and still haven’t, fortunately) at least they wouldn’t know my e-mail address and be able to cause all sorts of havoc if they figure out my e-mail password too.

I can appreciate the current security measures available but I really don’t understand why it was changed when Guild Wars 2 released since I thought NCSoft IDs were fine.
