Main reason is – there is no collusion detection in GW2. People would go through the big tanks or hide inside their models. Golems work since they are bipedal, and biggest part of model is on higher heigth than character height.

This, getting Dragonite Ore in WvW is a pain. The only decent way is capturing SM, and that requires being in EB and waiting for it to happen – which can take hours depending on server balance. Or if you hold it and fight off enemies – never.

Add Dragonite Ore to towers and supply camps. 100 Supply camps capture = 100 ore. Its ridicculous how easy is to get it in PvE, and how long it takes playing normally in WvW.

For people saying “they could not have made rewards worthwhile since everyone is getting them!”

They did not had to make rewards monetary worthwhile – at least something of personal worth for players, giving feeling of achivement for those weeks (and face it, its THE biggest so far activity/achivement tree that was in GW2. All living stories and such can be finished in a day or two). – unique skin, some WvW gimmic (i believe EVERY player that finished the achivement regardless of server rank at least deserved permanent finisher), an unique WvW toy or town clothing… It would affect economy and other parts of game in no way, but players would be satisfied. Even another ugly useless backpack/headpiece skin would be better than what we got.

The only worthwhile thing of whole season is “Veteran of the Mysts” title, and thats it. The chest itself, the thing that kept teasing players and look forward to end of season – turned to be worthless.

Only ones complaining are people who haven’t wvw’d before leagues came out or people who bandwagoned to JQ in hopes of getting first and an easy reward at the end. I’m glad the reward chest is bad because all it would do is encourage bandwagoning to the top servers come Season 2 and would kill off several of the smaller servers like my own. I’ve complained about decisions Anet has made in the past but this certainly wont be one of them.

Only people complaining about people complaining are people that did not WvW when WvW was not profitable and huge money sink.

We were promised a reward. The requirements for this reward were higher than any other game activity or living story. We got screwed over. Thats it.

People will not stop WvWing because of this, but you cant take from them being legitimely kitten ed about being taken for a fools.

I`d be happy if reward was a single thing unique to WvW – a cosmetic weapon/armor skin or something.

This much “rewards” as we got, i earn in evening playing WvW. Dolyak, tome of knowledge etc. are completely useless for not new players. Every single Living World event had better rewards.

So basically the only thing worthy of doing the achivement was title. I understand the idea of not having too great rewards so that it does not turn into necessary grind/transfer race – but this is just plain silly. All excitement of multiple months nullified in instant.

For those who say we should WvW for WvW sake – we do. But neverless its normal to be insulted and tricket when you open a christmas present and find a pair of socks after being told to behave and be a good boy for the months before Christmas so that Santa would come.

You should have been a good boy anyway without bribery

Next time Santa comes, i`ll kick him in the nuts and steal the bag with presents then set his beard on fire.

I actually like the concept. This is what Orr should have been with sequenced events, players needing to clear the path etc.

The only problem there is this concent is presented as soloable – and it clearly is not. A group can do it ok, with zerg its breeze. Solo? Only if others cleared the path.

The events that block way, monsters that CC constantly, respawn rate, veterans and elites with insta attacks on wooden platforms – its a pain in the kitten. Spores are the least problem since you can see and easily avoid them.

Superior Rams

Iron hide does not protect the ram itself, neither do heals affect it.

There are many way to counter or at least stale siege if the tower has even 1-3 people inside and siege is prebuild, also, obviously – it`ll not stop dedicated attacker (nothing will unless you personally go out and wipe them).

a) Supply traps and trebs poison allow to make enemy run to the gates, drop a blueprints and run back since have no supply to build them.
b) Superior Arror Carts successfully destroy Superior Rams, with more rams its race of time but still quite managable. Not everywhere they can be placed so that they cant be hit from outside, but pretty much everywhere you can destroy rams with it if you place them behind gate.
c) If you have supplies – repairing actually DOES win quite enougth time. If you dont – your bad.
d) With a small-medium group you can still defend effectively AFTER the gate was breached in some towers/keeps if you have siege weapons placed stalling time. Spreadshot does wonders.
e) Burning Oil exists for reason – destroying it takes some time if its manned especially if user is traited.
d) In cases of EB you can pretty much defend the towers form the keeps – trebs and mortars do wonders.

But basically it boils down to – do not keep your possessions unattaned: track the enemy movements and report them. In most case if report is made in time, there is enougth time for commander to respond. If he hesitates and gives priority to something else – tower would be lost/sacraficed. And its pretty much supposed to be like that.

And its not just superior rams – Golems do the same and more often than not, no one bothers to destroy the trebs simply destroying tower walls from safety. Tower is upgraded not just for the sake of it – if you man it, it can be effective base of defence or assault on other objective.

But generally – loosing it is not a big concern, since it`ll become downgraded and can be easilly retaken. So, ppt is not an issue. The issue is for person who invested in its upgrade – but one should understand, just like with pumping money in supply camps switching hands every 5 minutes, you should not expect the upgrade on themselves to matter: you still should be there to defend it.

1 Gold, Silver or Bronze medal that can be exchanged on respective items and armor skins on respective levels of towers (prices start with 5 medals per piece)

Season one rewards

I “actually” play WoW and i length have my achivement, i`d say, i have more say about WvW than most people posting here and its always ironic to read someone implicate silly things without knowing the person they refer to.

Now to point of grind: It is. All points i listed stand.

Any living world update can be finished in a few hours/days/few days if it requires dailies.

The WvW achivement in contrast requires active gameplay for long period of time and substantional amount of pure meaningless “grind”. Unless you are not dedicated to getting it – chances are, a lot of even active players will not have it finished till end of season having it “almost done” unless they specifically go to grind few remaining ones.

The WvW set of achivements requires more time investment and dedication than both “monthly” achivements, let alone any living world or any other.

And about the “actually play WvW and not just get there to get achivements” – if i would just normally play WvW as i usually do, chances of me getting achivements would be much much slimmer: sunce current achivement set motivates nothing but zerg run and objective flip.

This question again. It seems to pop up every once in a while.

Every profession has some build or skills or weapon thats usefull for tagging multiple enemies. Like a Staff/Well necro, or a Staff Guardian, or Longbow Warrior etc. So you should just play what profession you enjoy and find a build that works good for tagging.

But if you’re talking about the absolute best, the apex of tagging. The only answer is Grenadier Engineer. Any other answer is stupid.

I have both Grenadier Engineer and Shortbow Thief – thief > anytime. Clusterbombs > greanades to hit walls, Shortbow > greanades to mark targets(plus, zerker thief SB in WvW makes like 2.5k damage per shot x 3 targets). Even in melee, you can just explode cluster bombs under your legs.

Engineers advantage is greater distance and ability to put constant pressure on spot/walls.

1-attack always hits 3 targets, cluster bomb is great for making groups, and dagger storm elite lets you tag half enemy raid passing near it when attack starts.

Season one rewards

Nope, no information yet.

And calling it a grind is quite silly, since you would quite easily finish the meta by just playing WvW as usual for those 7 weeks. But I suppose playing the game is grind for some.

I personally don’t see the big deal with rewards at all. I play for fun and that is reward enough in my eyes.

It IS grind, harmful to that too.

The kills/captures achivement can be done easilly playing WvW indeed, but the other ones require you to go out of the way of you normally play to get them and are substantianal grind in time.

People are dropping 5 rams on doors to get Destructor achivement, repair walls that dont need to be repaired wasting supplies, capture empty control points in borderlands over and over to get 50, queue to EB to get the SM achivement etc.

The achivements motivate people running with zerg train and even so, after you done with main ones require you to go out of the way to get Mercs, repair, door destroy, supply etc. ones since total requirement to get reward is high.

It IS by all means a pointless and time consuming grind requiring more time investemt/wasted effort than many Live Stories combined.

I just hope for next season they either reduce number required to get reward, or add bigger variety including things like Defensive achievements, ressurrections, healing, kills with siege weapons, money spent on upgrades etc.

Maybe i missed the topic, but was there any actual info/clarification of what to expect from the Season One final chest reward, other than doylyaks finishers?

The achivement is probably the biggest ever grind compared to any other living world/dungeon achivements.

So is there a chance there`ll be something worthy? Or it`ll be finishers and some greens again? Though the title alone makes it worth.

Demolitions Expert: How does it work?

It seems not possible to get it from just hitting the door, so now everyne enrages commanders by dropping 5 rams on each door since everyone needs achievement. And even if you do man a ram and do the hits, it still might not trigger if multiple rams are hitting and you did not get last hit (or seem so).

Are achivements that HARM WvW process. Since there is no defensive achivements, all people do is ride the zerg train. Since there are grindy achivements to repair, capture camps and sentry, destroy walls – people do pointless/harmfull activities for sake of finishing them.

Also i dont quite get the logic of designer behind those achivements – “capture” achivements, including SM and Keeps and kills achivement: are rather easy to get, while those should be the Main ones.

Secondary importance achievements like Sentries, Repairs, Mercs – on opposite are way to grindy. People have to go out of their way of normal gameplay and grind them if they want to finish them in time.

Let’s do this way: let’s have Anet ban all the players from guilds that ever had GvG’s from WvW for 2-4 weeks, so only the “real PP- cough – WvWers can play WvW not those GvG spoiled brats”.

Then come back and tell us how’s going without 80% of the commanders and decently skilled group fighting.

This is ironic, since you are no a server that i, personally, organized, likely using our teamspeak and site i made and transferred here because of community and success we built. Seafarer`s Rest was build for one reason – WvW, its in community hands now – good hands. But i still hold to illusion of community that actually like WvW and that their reason for being there and not because they coudnt do GvG elsewhere.

Remove all the reward in WvW, and you won’t see them playing for PPT at all. Just saying.

WvW? Reward? Since begining WvW was huge gold sink and time waster, one had to PvE to gain money to WvW, pay guild taxes, spend hours in queues just to get in and then sit in tower clicking weapons so they dont despawn, carry supplies while getting nothing, spend hours fighting knowing if you log off, some important segment will likely be lost and you will not be replaced, wake up early to recapture points, always be on null since you spend all your money on upgrades and weapons etc.

Wxp, PvP gear, rewards, higher xp and loot all came much later

Once again proves what kind of scrubs are “GvG” players are. Hundreds and Thousands invested a lot of our time and soil in WvW and its insulting seeing people like you call yourself “WvW” ers now.

Preacher stay on topic, this is not a gvg topic, this is a post about a dev stepping out of place in a situation where there were no problems caused by any players present.
After which he implied that the players should play the game the way he plays.

You’re being ignorant about this fact and pull in facts that have nothing to do with the subject. This can be seen as trolling, just like the dev here has done.
Stay on topic of the dev doing what he did, which I myself would never have believed if I didn’t know about the kitten they pulled off in the last months.

How exactly he was out of place? What gave GvG players exclusive rights to interfer with other players gameplay?

Is conspiring with other side not against the rules?
Is leeching not against the rules?
Is player “standing there” against the rules?

He owes no excuses to OP, but OP certainly deserves disciplinary action for bringing this out her and starting harrassment compaign.

Sorry, but i just laught at pretending pvp and group warfare “skill” is bigger in equal open organized open world fight.

Didn’t you quit the game like around christmas time? Don’t pretend you know anything about GvG, because in fact the skill cap is much higher than average WvW zerg busting.

Yes… because organized guild on teamspeak fighting other organized guild on teamspeak in cooperated match in open field is so much more skillfull than organized guild on teamspeak fighting other organized guild on teamspeak in actual WvW.

The majority of “GvGers” i see now are scrubs that were irrelevant or not willing for actual WvW back in the day and now pose as real pvpers.

The “GvG” concept did not even arouse at all in WvW at begining of GW2 – since servers were full, organized guilds fought other organized guilds, alliances fought other alliances to death etc. It only appeared later when the “looser” servers realized they have no chance to win or unwilling to organize on scale more than their own guild, and when population on their servers dropped so that finding proper opposition became hard (especially on lower tier servers).

I laugth and continue to laugth at attempting to bring “SPVP” to wvw – which basically GvG is. Its on same level of stupidity as people making “duelling areas” in Age of Conan and complaining when someone comes and kills them – thats open pvp for you. And similarly, you are not in position to complaint if anyone interfers with your GvG since by all means – you are legally abusing the gameplay mode (while i agree though, at current point: harm from it is mostly unexistent. This however was quite different before and a reason why such rules exist)

Fact: The gvg happened on an empty map, with no queues.
Fact: The event happened on a Thursday before reset, when there was a decided winner and the servers involved already had issues getting people to log in and fight.
Fact: Where the gvg’s happen is way down in the southern end of the map, far away from any towers/supply camps/keeps or any other objective needed to be flipped for WvW strategy and ppt.
Fact: The Anet employee parked himself untagged in the middle of what was a player-organized event and would not move.
Fact: The Anet employee only popped his tag after people asked him to move and then said “I’m watching you guys violate my game mode.”

How exactly were these guys violating your “game mode”? They were far away from interfering with any objective flipping or defense. They were on a map that was not queued or causing issues for players to get into. People can have their own opinions about gvg and its place in WvW, but in this particular instance any of the regular protestations (taking up queue space, etc) were moot.

This guy owes the community and these particular players an apology. What he was doing was pure griefing, considering their event did not prohibit this Anet employee from capping objectives or playing the way he wanted to play. However, he was preventing others from playing the way THEY wanted to play.

Appology for what? Standing up there and watching? Its his right, as it is of every other player. He does not violate any rules by that or “grief” you. In fact, he had all right to actively interfere (attack other players, bring mobs there, set traps etc) – as any other players. GvGers are not given exclusive rights and protections and only able to hold the events because people let them.

In fact, if you actually would contact other side and tell them to kill this specific player interferring with you: that would be a clear rule violation.

From an actual harm standpoint: indeed, this even most likely did not matter.
From the legal standpoint: the Dev actually had all rights to punish you for abusing game mechanics (farming XP, as neglectable it were), conspiring to influence match result and “leeching” – its actually in a rules. He did nothing of that so even there you have nothing to complaint.

So whats the whole fuss about? Since some player DARED to interfere with your holy GvG by standing there, and that player happened to be a Dev? (as if having a tag automatically made him untouchable).

He had absolutely no obligations to your side, used exact same rights as any other player could and recived trown insults and personal attacks there and now through forums and making his details public.

ArenaNet killed GW2, killed any interesting part of it (GvG). Most ridiculous situation I’ve encountered in my gaming life. They are worse than EA and first Origin.

They’ve stated painfully and obviously that they are not interested in GvG or any organisation of arenas for us.

The game is dead. Shame, GW2 had so much potential. Too bad that tards in the management killed the game.

Uninstalling the game after playing it over a year. Nothing else for us here.

This is an attitude i dont agree with. WvW died when people stopped playing competitively, not when someone decided on it or any changes happened.

That you like GvG more, does not invalidate the WvW mode. Basically, GvG is only prominent now, AFTER most of people already quite WvW and with excuse that WvW is dead anyway..

They`ll sure add proper GvG mode eventually, but WvW is not GvG (i.e. not balanced nice organized GvG with equal numbers , gear and enemy waiting for you to start).

I want revival of WvW, not turn of WvW in casual GvG arenas since WvW failed.

anet can only begin to ‘fix’ wvw when they realize people are still playing wvw/pvp because fighting other people is fun, not because of arbitrarily imposed objectives (pvdoor) that directly hamper said combat.

i understand the need for some sort of direction or goal to guide the combat, but obviously what they’re doing is not the solution. which is why outside of T1 servers, no one cares about ppt, and why as you say, ‘people stopped playing competitively’

Dont agree. WvW is an unique mode because it offers actual “meaningful warfare” – a server wide organization and goal, strategic gameplay, tactical possibilities and semi-persistent enviroment.

WvW failed because of disastrous assumtions that it HAS to be 24/7, resulting in most matches being won by coverage and server population.

So you mistake cause and effect. PPT, conquering and defending keeps etc are meaningless not because “only fun thing is killing people in open world in equal numbers”.

I absolutely dont associate WvW simply with “fighting people in deathmatch” and it being the only form of fun. If you did not notice, even Spvp not a single mode is “just deathmatch”.

GvG in fact is more senseless and less meaningfull then simply fighting in WvW with your guild on team speak against other enemies and guilds. Lets dumb down “fight” to equal numbers, equal gear, equal buffs, lets remove siege weapons, landscape and strategic factors etc. Even if Arena Net will add GvG it`ll certainly be not like whats happening now, but something more meaningful like original GW1 GvG. Sorry, but i just laught at pretending pvp and group warfare “skill” is bigger in equal open organized open world fight.

And with “arbitrary imposed objects” – thats the point of WvW, and what makes it WvW. ArenaNet killed GW2, killed any interesting part of it (GvG). Most ridiculous situation I’ve encountered in my gaming life. They are worse than EA and first Origin.

They’ve stated painfully and obviously that they are not interested in GvG or any organisation of arenas for us.

The game is dead. Shame, GW2 had so much potential. Too bad that tards in the management killed the game.

Uninstalling the game after playing it over a year. Nothing else for us here.

This is an attitude i dont agree with. WvW died when people stopped playing competitively, not when someone decided on it or any changes happened.

That you like GvG more, does not invalidate the WvW mode. Basically, GvG is only prominent now, AFTER most of people already quite WvW and with excuse that WvW is dead anyway..

They`ll sure add proper GvG mode eventually, but WvW is not GvG (i.e. not balanced nice organized GvG with equal numbers , gear and enemy waiting for you to start).

I want revival of WvW, not turn of WvW in casual GvG arenas since WvW failed.

Ah, i remember nice times when people complained about RPers in WvW on “unofficial roleplaying servers” and opposite – RPers complained about WvWers interfering with their events set in borderlands…

But then again. Just consider a dev an RPer – he obviously seen something treacherous happening: a group of your worlds fighters conspiring and organizing with the Enemy! Of course any patriotic individuum would interfer in such case and sacrafice himself to prevent such mischevous deeds!

Everyone jumps on him in this thread since he had a dev tag – but the fact is, he never abused his powers or even violate any rules as normal player. The opposite is true – GvGers believe interferring with their fights is for some reason abuse and they are protected species (while clearly abusing wxp and loot mechanic and violating one of the clear written rules about “leeching” and trying to downplay it)

To a dev and a normal player, bunch of people fighting each other on outskirts is no different from bunch of bots farming centaurs. You do break the rules. You were not punished in any way, the player interferred with you as any other would and could. The fact that in this case the rules were meaningless dont matter, since from legal standpoint he was still right. “leeching” and conspiration to farm each other is still illegal.

I find all the hate for GvGers on this forum hilarious. If my guild and the other guilds on GH who occasionally do GvGs didnt WvW, GH would be 10 ranks lower than it is.

The guilds sustain the entire server yet people cry and cry that we must never do GvG because we ruin WvW.

Its sad.. and ANet have now realy put their foot in it >_>

The hate for “GvG” forum warriors is exactly because they like to pretend they are and represent majority of WvW players and guilds. Which they certainly dont. Majority does not have against GvG on itself, however it indeed does interfer (well, to lesser degree at current state of WvW and populations) with actual WvW and they do not have exclusive rights and priorities over other players. WvW is half dead now, but at begining, even running solo killing people was looked dowkittennce you contributed absolutely nothing to WvW.

In fact it goes beyound that, the hate for anything “WvW” related which touches actual gamplay and strategy and not just killing each other in open field if even more riddiculous.

There are different visions on WvW, but GvG is not one of them since it denies the concept of WvW itself. Arena Net does thing to add content for meaningful guild warfare in WvW – grouping up, buffing up and killing each other in open field round after round is not part of it.

I really hope its fake. Since according to the notes – Ranger bow arrows for both Long/Shortbow projectile speed is increased. Meanwhile, Thief Short Bow, nerfed last patch and auto attack being useless against any player that can ministrafe or just not stand in same place remains same slow.

Boring? Hardly.

Its the most enjoyable minigame so far after the Super Adventure Box. In fact, its actually more enjoyable than sPvP for me.

Its dynamic, it requires skill, it requires map and flow knowledge and actual strategy, it requires teamwork – it rewards those who play smart/good. The only downside i seen are random teams where outcome of matches depends on who you get with you – very often i carry matches literally myself, seeing as a lot of people play it for 1st time and dont know all nuances yet, other times you get 2 or even 3 people Akitteng just to get an achivement.

However, when the teams are balanced and you and enemy have skilled players that actually get how it works – its a blast. Its a better designed combat flow than any existing sPvP map. Sure – its a pretty much classic map, but none less its one of the best – reminding of playing Quake or Unreal Tournament. The health and weapon bonuses empower it even further.

I would consider some kind of better rewards, since once you get achivement theres no reason to play for rewards – seeing as you get 1 chest, which is equal to killing 1 mob in open world… But other than thakittens very very fun, and i would not mind it staying in the game long term.

Seriously, i did not had such fun duels and multiple people encounters since long time in spvp and wvw.

Dagger storm is fine. Perfect combination of nice damage, missile reflect and short cooldown. Sure, might be not that great in tPvP, but actually pretty good in PvE and in many WvW situations. Combine it with combo field, and its superb.

No need to change this one. If anything, i find Basilisk Venom to be absolute trash, since its elite specifically designed for one type of thief build.

I dislike RNG, i dislike the chests/keys mechanic and never bought them – but lets be clear.

1) Majority of things in the chests can be acquired another way – if you want them, you can.
2) You can buy chests without paying any real money, by exchanging gold.
3) Arenanet probably does not care about YOU not buying chests or any normal players. Seeing as they still add MORE chests, this mechanic seems to be profitable, and i for one know there are many rich players that while you dont buy a single one – would buy hundreds, just because its convenient: people are different. And you cant it Pay2Win wither – because you know yourself how little the chances to “win” are and how big is the “pay” part.

TLDR:
Just ignore the chests. Accept that if you dont like this mechanic, maybe its not designed for YOU. They bring profit to Anet and thats why they are there. Tweaking them for you to like them and possible buy one, would not necessary mean higher profits for them.

I am playing a thief and love all the thief whining pretending that they instantly die and become useless if cant stay permastealthed .

The cost for this particular trap is however questionable, as its not really that useful. Once people stop playing with new toys and spamming them, will likely be very rarely ever used because of the badges cost. Still nice situational feature.

Agree that its not fun. Same as Kegbrawl. Simply does not feel fluid, interesting and only like a chore to get the achivement. The idea is nice, but, well – for me at least, its not appealing.

Guess its nice to have more minigames, but its nothing compared to how awesome was SAB for example.

Its free however, so i see no reason to complain. Some people will do it (however i believe, just like Keg Toss, after need to grind it for achivement will be gone, it`ll be empty too), so hate it. But thats some new content, so even if you only spent 5 minutes there, its good.

I came back month ago or so, playing only casually as time affords now every day. To be honest i cant really see “changes in last monthes” as anything constructive, as what i see from all servers atm is pretty pathetic for it being T1. WvW is past its time. Current metagame is absolutely nothing compared to what we had back than, and main reason is basically competition being dead – it seems no side takes wvw seriously anymore, where for back than it was almost a job, Though that was a reason so many people burnt out and quit to begin with. I dont see nothing impressive from either side. Some commanders are good at leading pugs and have overall good ability to lead random people in combat situation, but overall there is no strategic gameplay from either side and if T1 atm is most active what GW2 now has of WvW, it just shows what bad state it is in.

That said, i don’t want Arena to cater to current bad state of wvw, even if it mean displeasing people just going for it for wxp and some fun fights, but rather want to see WvW to be perfected in a way they intended it from beginning. They should work to bring competition back, not just accept the fact that they lost it.

Nothing was as great as raising SFR from bottom to the top fighting different servers at their prime time where people were really enthusiastic about wvw and full with pride. On another note, i laugthed at people on SFR complaining about some queues at prime time after free transfers. After release, we were low pop server, and still had hours of queues sometimes, while purposely chose least populated server – because wvw was that active, allied guilds could fill the maps without any bugs. Not to mention say Vizunah that since beginning had to deal with like 4h queues and still played. Now in T1 i can hop in prime time on any map, and in daytime in borderlands run around solo capping camps with no other people in sight…

Traps+Get More Out of WvW

We don’t need silly gimmick traps; what we need is an Asura Mega Laser. Can be built as an upgrade in the spire of Stonemist Castle and Keeps for 3000 supply with 12000 range.

Destroys all enemy siege and troops in a 600 radius AoE with 1 shot and deals massive damage to walls. Recharge time inbetween shots 10 minutes.

Structure Upgrades:
Tier 1: Build Cannons and Mortars – 90 silver + 1750 supply (merged)
Tier 2: Build Waypoint – 1 gold 50 silver + 2500 supply
Tier 3: Build Asura Mega Laser – 2 gold +3000 supply

We can have both Asura Mega laser AND minefields. We already have lightning bolt generator in Borderlands, Low Orbit Ion Cannon for EB would be a nice addition. The more possibilities for fun and tactics, the better.

Also, placing Mega Lasers in KEEPS in EB, would make people attack them more often, and not just leave them alone for majority of matchups and trade towers.

This is a joke, right? I’m scared you might be serious.

Never been so serious. Though buildable barricades and water platforms are still priority.

Let me just give an example of what in my understanding GOOD siege is.

Lets take situation when you are in own Borderlands and enemy holds fully fortified Hills. Mortars, catapults behind gates, trebuchet at the vista, ballistas at the choke points, lots of supplies inside.

For attacker it should be impossible to even try taking it if defender is capable, until they slowly drain Hills supply.

So a siege starts with attackers taking both supply camps, and probe of brute force attack – which likely will be repelled. Attack on north gate would be suffocated in poison treb fire form inside the keep and concentrated mortar fire. Attack on South gate would be futile to begin with, because of how easily the gate is defended.

Thus attackers build trebs and try attack from distance from different points, however enemy either suicide runs to destroy the positions or countertrebs (even stealth treb attacks, like building treb behind attackers positions to destroy their own). To defend own siege weapons, attackers build defencive siege weapons like balistas and carts at own positions too.

Still, its hard for attackers to hold trebs firing for long, so they resort to instead trying to drain resources of KEEP by sending smaller groups attacking the keep gates and walls from different positions while main force blocking keep reinforcement and supply income – with Keeps supply slowly draining on repairs.

Defenders to distract attackers, send strike force to attack their keeps, trying to make the attacker force move away and get supplies in keep.

Eventually attackers however, breach in, move in – but are greeted with ballistas on choke point and arrow carts. While holding the gate/wall open, they build treb behind, and treb the enemy defensive positions. They still however cant safely attack the gates, since the trebs placed in inner circle, are shooting their positions and destroy their siege weapons. So instead they place catapults on the wall, where treb cant reach them to shoot the gate, and a treb to shoot poison inside the inner circle to destroy any siege weapons/positions they may have behind the gate. Meanwhile porting Golems from Garrison, and stealth attacking the other gate which falls fast, since enemy fails to notice it in time.

Both gates breached, the go to Boss room just to be greeted with massive balisstae fire at chokepoint entrance. Only few defenders remain inside to defend the chokepoint for a minute, while rest ports out and runs to attackers keep with main force, using moment to try to either take it or make main attacker force pull away.

Attackers are forced to pull away to defend, however return later, send Golem to chockpoint to attract all the fire, and send mesmers inside to open portal, after which portal bomb remaining defenders.

THIS is how a proper siege with both organized forces should be conducted. If objective is defended, taking it should not be easy, and HOLDING and DEFENDING something should be relevant.

What we have now instead?

3 zergs of people run around the map mostly avoiding each other, taking empty keeps. Any defence and upgrades are meaningless. There is nothing that cant be overcome with brute force of few siege golems.

If you took objective, you should value it and defend it. Loosing it should be a wound, not a trivial thing. Supply lines should matter, proper siege conduct as well. I really dont get arrow cart whine, especially as its not really the stopping factor – even proper balista defense on chokepoints is better, and people fought much harsher defenses before where there was no siege limit and before AC`s nerf. No 2, no 4 no 10 arrowcarts should be able to stop or even really slow down a proper organized force. So for me most of complaints basically are read like “i cant stand in red circles anymore! fix it!”, while those weapons were created specifically for exact this purpose – anti personal weapons preventing people from just running around like zombies and pressing 1 targeting gate.
