Will we have “Vision of WvW” blog post soon? Since change of team leader is quite a big thing. So it would be great if Devon would post extensively about his view of WvW, its part of the game, future plans and direction he wants to take it.
Retaliation is source of complaints, and always was (especially when one coudnt use siege weapons since they were destroyed by retaliation).
That said, for Engineer, the answer is – go for retaliation yourself. Eng have actually nice capabilities for that, and it works nice with tanky built with elexir gun/bomb kit.
Never had trouble caping camps with Zerker Grenade Engineer. Just let Golem tank the mobs while i nuke them to death. With upgraded guards its more tricky, need to pull them separately – but still works.
Dont see why 5% protection /damage would drastically change the situation. Mostly worthless traits imho.
Grenade Kit skill: Grenades no longer require the player to have line of sight of the target area to throw them.
that might be a good change for WvW depending on how it works. Can I now throw nades 1500 even if I can no see top of wall area.
Grenades still will collide and explode on collosion during their ark flight. However removing LOS, allows to drop them down from the walls without standing on the ledge – since grenades fly in ark and if you see ground, you can trow them over the ledge. Very very useful if works like that.

I hope its as it reads. In that case grenades become awesome in Keep defense from the walls.
I find it ironic how ever since release SFR loved to brag how they were a medium pop and now they have to be all ‘hushhhh’
But I don’t think it’ll be that easy to get that free transfer off to SFR, with the people coming back and it being a high tier after all (no. 1 even), it’ll fill up quickly.
I`ve done my share of bragging and it was truth. We started as most empty server in EU, with just US and i personally spoke/invited/chased away guilds that ended up on SF. We Fought as low server to high ranks, than changed medium. SF remained medium until later 2012 and reached 2nd tier that way.
The changes become after that point with SFR attracting some americans, Blacktide and Desolation getting other guilds, FUBAR mostly restructuring and lots of people quiting, people changing sides (Disorder League, our sworn FS enemies now figh on SFR… heh) etc.
By now SFR has little to do with SFR there was when i left, but same applies for every server – its like all servers merged into each other multiple times. Still pevepe.net runs still, and some old timers like OSC and exkittenand other people still organizing things – while majority of the fighters i see though are new or even those who we fought against before.
SFR still is medium/at some times high server though, and while i myself distanced, i am proud of what SFR achieved and name it created for itself and continues to fight for.
Returning to the point of “bragging about being small” – not the same people, not the same people to brag to, not the same situation. The people we fought against now fight for SFR. Some SFR people fight on other servers.
Still, i believe SFR becoming behemoth would be unlikely outcome, even with transfers and not really welcomed – though by now, the main problem: queues, is not so sever as it was in earlier days: population dropped for all servers. Still i believe, the SFR prospers not because of server population – but PvP focus, as it was intended from beginning. And you cant deny – the initial goal of “giant slaying”, working from dead bottom to the number one: was achieved, though the competition and population at the moment is not the one it once was.
I am poor grenade WvW engineer. I dont care for other kits and weapons. I just hope Grenades are not nerfed even further
Karma is a second “general” currency – its used for hell lot of things and its anything than useless. Because its used for so many purposes, adding more and more stuff to be bought with karma is inadequate – instead new currencies are added.
You woudnt go to dungeon to earn “useless” tokens. You went maybe for other purpose and got tokens as a bonus. If you dont care about achievements, appearance of the gear etc. you might ignore them. (than again, instead of grinding dungeons if you were only interested in other aspect of the game, you could do it). I dont see a problem. Their purpose is not to be trader – but for specific things: for example like buying Dungeon armor sets.
Problem with using unifying currency for many purposes is – prices on different things will be different, and ways of attaining that currency will be different in effectivity as well. If you play WvW and want WvW armor that cost say karma or gold, you might find that some other activity provides lot more karma/gold than WvW. If you want ascended gear that cost karma – you might find you also want 10 other things that cost karma and your total need in currency raised 2-5x times. Point is so that people could buy things they want, tied to activities they like, by doing those activities. If there were 2 flat currencies like in beginning – gold and karma, for example fighting in WvW would be not optimal way of obtaining WvW gear. If dungeon armor costed gold – crafting and AH trading could be better way of attaining it instead of doing dungeons. If Ascended gear costed karma, one could spend whole days doing dynamic events instead of doing fractals. Differing currencies prevent fluctuation of values relatively to other goods (i.e. something costing 10 tokens is cheap, but not when you need 500 tokens on item from other category that uses same tokens, in this case where every token counts it would be waste), and rewards specific activities with tied rewards.
For items all people might need, regardless of specific activity type – theres already multiple ways of attaining them – for example for fractales, for laurels (and soon likely in WvW Ascended gear for badges)
They are not “worthless” since those currencies exist for specific purpose and always have established value for those items/purpose. Its not “traded” currency like gold, it has fixed value. If they are worthless for you, you dont have to earn them – since most of them are earned via specific activities, allowing players to work toward different goals with different ways and play styles.
Confusing? Yes. But you don’t need ALL currencies, you select what items you want/what play style to achieve them – and work toward them. Pretty straightforward and rewards whatever you prefer to do – Fractals, Dungeons, Guild Missions, WvW etc.
A new currency would be bad, but I fear that’s what will happen. Let’s just look at what is already in game

Many currencies = good. More things tied to single currency is bad, as it causes inflation and devaluates cheaper goods. Just look at Gold – people might as well just trade in Powerful Blood/Ectoplasm as real currency, since they have actual value.
Different currencies are for different things/goals – they should not be mixed. I`d prefer badges being used only for Gift of Battle and siege blueprints, while wvw armors/weapons have separate currency.
From a point of WvW strategist – “+supply” is a must, all point in it. For yourself, your guild, your server. Nothing else really matters.
However players tend not to act/think as common need/strategy matters would them do – but rather on personal preferences and playstyle: which may be not the “best” choice, but more suitable one.
For one – supply upgrade seem to have quite big point cost, meaning many people rather than spending all their points to get questionable benefits (since i assume 1 point is maybe like 1 supply. 11 or 12 supply does not feel like great advancement. At full 5 points , say 15 supplies its great though (5 bonus from influence its superb!)) – on other hand, at same point price you could fully upgrade multiple other perks.
And not everyone (sadly) has team strategy and contribution in mind, so a lot of players indeed will pick all other skills – just based on their preferences, and ideas – especially as some of those offer VISIBLE advancements – like new skills for siege weapons.
That said, it seems you CAN get ALL the upgrades, just like with lernable skills – meaning, its not a question of choice – its question of priority of what to pick first.
So i am not really concerned about Supplies dominating perk choice – its obvious “best” choice, but its not obvious “preferable” choice for the players, that will not get its benefits outside of team play and long time until they upgrade it fully.
What i`d like to see more is actual divercity and alternative – current presented perks are basically linear upgrades – while it would be better if people could specialize in one at cost of another, and such choices actually make some kind of difference.
This forum will be much more quiet when SFR will collapse.
If SFR ever collapse, it will be in the name of our true mission, getting Vabbi into t1!

I dont even play anymore, but nice to see SFR on top. All the hard work was not in vain. The server literally started as empty one with just one alliance that selected it because it was the least popular server after BWEs – and was small/medium server fighting against high/big all the time – successfully, and manage to raise to top and attract interested pvpers. Now i see its high fighting the giants that were there from beginning. Congratulations to all people that made that happen. Truly heroic effort and dedication!
The main problem for me is – WvW is not sustainable. The 24/7 concept kills itself, as it require immense efforts and participation from all people, and all people eventually burn out of it after forced to fight everyday, all their free time to keep their servers competitive. Taking a brake is “betrayal”.
At this moment, my server, that was one of the most competitive servers in EU and beat most of enemies in prime time, even if not having night coverage to compete at top ranks, simply burned out – doing wvw for two month straight, with all the associated bullkitten and issues, is simply tiring and people lack motivation and seek excuses to do something else.
I myself, considering going Darkfall, since i simply see no point in continue the “work” that is WvW as its less and less fun, and already like half of people quit and participation on most servers noticeably dropped.
Already now i see a very big stream of players leaving GW2, and no patch will fix it as the issues are fundamental.

PvP ranking. In opposite to PvE ranking in official topic.
Monitoring of servers score/forums, population/queues statistics, expiriences with servers we fought and my troll sense(us on top!). Not telling its entirely accurate, some (especially the ones i didnt fight personally) are quite wild guesses based on bits of info.
But if its incorrect, just post screens of your server dominating others at prime time, and i`ll fix the list. Desolation is one of the most populated servers so can beat a lot of lower tier ones by default – its not known to be very organized though – but for example. if you can show that Desolation beats Gunnars Hold with clear advantage in prime time: i`ll fix its position.
Ramza, prime time is 18-01 CET. So if Arborstone dominates you 21-01 CET, they do win. After 18 people come from work mostly, majority starts playing around 20.00 CET.
Aurora and Blacktide are both russian heavy servers, thus playing at +4 GMT. Still, until the 23 CET the fight is fair – after that you can start complaining about russians logging off – but the thing is : its blacktide and aurora that gets point offtime while french are at work, and loose at prime time when french return from work. There is slight difference in time zones – but on majority of EU servers the most heavy fights are around 21-01 CET – at other times specific servers can have slight timezone advantage (but on high populated servers, most maps are filled all length from 18 CET to 1 AM at least). French get massive points thanks to night score, since they log off LATER than russians and capture everything after russians log off – but if they still win in prime time, that matters little.
From what i know Blacktide is pretty active in offtime fighting itself, dominating at morning and early day. Additionally – Arborstone is smaller server than both Blacktide and Aurora.

It’s nice that you are proud of your server, even though it comes across as a bit of a whine. And if you guys can ever overcome the competition in tier 5 or wherever you are, we would gladly welcome you to a fight of “Who’s best in prime time” in the top tier.
Last time i checked, when we had a match against FS , guess who was leading in prime time? Need screenshots? Medium server vs FULL? And we didnt even play actively with an alliance – just were leveling in PvE and loged at evening for some wvw fun.

What makes you mad? You like night capping – there is other ranking for you and other topics. Your server is by far not prominent for beating anyone (except facing server they severely outnumber) in prime time and it still gets night capped by more active at night server despite that. If in prime time it takes you hours to take back keeps from the server that capped at night and you are switching leading score back and forth for few hours – it means servers are pretty close, and the other server (even if its nightcaps) is technically stronger – since short leading of specific server can be accounted for example for specific guild loging in, while on other server the opposite guild was not present. So short term results are not really indicative.
REAL prime time servers are called that because of REAL dominance at prime time – aka leading it for 4-7 hours at evening. Sometimes leading with the double combined score of the enemies – so yeah, in such situations its prettykittenobvious who is stronger in reality.
I dont descriminate against players playing at night, i descriminate against non-pvpers and non-pvp activities in pvp ranking. If you are good – you can beat your enemy. If you are bad – you cant. You cant prove you are good if all you do is fighting NPCs at night or outzerging enemies 10 to 1 in off time.

Well, the difference is in EU max 4 hours. If a server is not too small, primetimes mostly overlap. There are times when each server is stronger/weaker (for example 0 GMT English servers are still strong 2 hours after +3-4 GMT servers go to sleep), but also there is prime time period which is prime for all.
Basically – just taking a period when all maps are caped and all servers have equal numbers.

There are a lot of 3rd party tools available – game seems to be pretty vulnerable for all kind of staff from teleport, stamina hack to radars etc. And there are obviously a lot of people using them (not to mention the bots farming in pve/wvw zones).
I hope the only reason those people arent baned yet, is because arena wants to collect data and ban them all at once. Its people that tell the hacks dont exist, are the ones uninformed and ignorant. (lets separate exploits from illegal 3rd party tools/hacks though – what i am talking about are existing teleport, fly, stamina, radar hacks and bots: a programs interacting and altering client)

Zireael – we (FU) had an enemy next to us yesterday (Kodash) attacking north Dreaming bay, while we attacked east. Why would we go north and kill Kodash? What does it to us? We basically help Elona at this case.
On other hand – if we see enemy attack a keep we want, we either do it from other side, or just wait for enemy to do the job for us – break the walls and diminish enemy forces, and us take all the benefits by rushing in and killing the attackers and taking keep ourselves when the gates/walls are down.
Thats how it works. Its called opportunism. When we were on 2nd place, both servers naturally attacked us. Elona got to 2nd place – both servers attacked them (as yesterday). Servers content with their position? They attack whatever they can take (if elona cared about 1st place, they`d go exclusively for Kodash as we did whole week, however they think its unrealistic and just try to go for us. While Kodash grabs whatever poitns available to secure an advantage).
We held against them successfully at weekend – Kodash scored only at night, despite both servers fighting against us? So what? Just be proud of it. There is no conspiracy.

And no btw, they dont win because they unite against us. Thats not a problem at all. get used to fighting 2vs1, happens all the time. They win because they have higher population and score at morning/day while we lead only in prime time. And they face same issue against each other and other servers so not their fault also. Thats just how it works.
We kickkitten in prime time, when numbers are equal, no matter the odds. So what is more to demand there? The fights are fun and thats all that matters. You cant stop two servers ganking on one in WvWvW and you cant stop scoring at night/work days – so why get angry?

Oh please, whoever the OP are – dont go there.
There is no real alliances between servers even though it might seem like that sometimes. Its all opportunism. Just yesterday us (FU and EC) sieged Dreaming Bay in the Kodash borderlands that belonged to Elona, while Kodash attacked it from different direction.
We used both attacks to break the Elona defences and see who gets the keep first, obviously not trying to attack Kodash raids (also having few skirmishes with them) as waited for opportunity for them to break gates, and than rush after them (in the end WE broke the wall and THEY rushed after us and died after we took the keep).
It was so funy, i went to german WvW section of official forums and make a post thanking our “allies” from Kodash for cooperation in yesterdays siege. The funy part – Elona reach actually believed we were actually allied! (all that while SR believes that Kodash and Elona are allied against us…)
Its just how RvRvR mechanic works. Both servers are also not nubs – they are good pvpers and are enjoyable to fight (sure lot more than previous match). Yes, we lead at prime time, and loose at night/day (medium vs two FULL servers) but its not their fault – its just how the game mechanic works.
Respect to Kodash and Elona,
at times we felt you were uniting against us, at times Kodash complained about us uniting with Elona against them, than Elona complained about us and Kodash fighting them, now its back to square one: wvw is fun
There is some truth that national servers tend to outsider targets rather than own nations other server – but it will be false to say they are working togehter: they fight each other as well. So facing two german or two french servers – one can expect a bit more attention, but in the end they all still fight to win: and would fight their main competition, as we do.
Lets not turn it into another night capping topic. There are a lot more issues beside that.

I have to strongly agree with night capping. I think it is a misinterpretation of what the WvW is trying to convey. We are currently playing a team that has a strong player base over seas… every day when we get on, we take back 50%-80% of our world back from them and every night when we go to sleep we lose 90% of it all over again.
You can guess who has the higher score (they do)… but who’s the stronger team when matched equally?
This is poor score representation.
Just so everyone’s clear about this; during the day you cap almost everything, and over night they cap almost everything… or put another way, during their night you cap everything.
While I agree population imbalances needs to be addressed, and outnumbered teams need help, what you’re ultimately complaining about is the game purely from your perspective.
You obviously did not include EU (which by the way have more servers/players than NA) into your logic.
Yeah. Some good post that is not summed up to “let them eat cakes” from people responsible, about plans for WvW and understanding of current situations and problems would be nice.
Agree that NPCs need to be buffed, by a LOT- both Lord and Guards.
Dont agree with supply cost change for rams. But the NPCs are a joke right now.

about soloing supply camps – i am playing glass canon engineer and i regularly solo fully upgraded supply camps, even if they have NPC guards. Not that hard. Damage from berserker gear is good enought to nuke down groups of NPCs quckly, while Asura defencive golem tanks for me.
Really need something to make supply 4-5 man content, not 1 man as it is with Doyliaks and Sentries.

We are wining against any server in prime time, and fine with it.
About the idea expressed in OP – nah. Will not solve anything. There is no magical easy solution. Its already discussed to death. Just add guild ranking for a players and guilds to at least stay motivated to play longterm regardless of server score.
Sadly have to agree. I still enjoy WvW a lot, i like the massive fights and sieges, strategy and competition – but i hope for GW2 to be a game for my guild for YEARS, but at the moment i dont see it as being realistic.
WvW slowly goes downhill. The major issues are killing it, exploiting rises, people loose interest, motivation falls – as a longterm gameplay mode its becoming less and less exciting.
We need Arena to finally pay attention to WvW – we need fixing the issues with night caping, adding new things to keep players motivated, some long term goals.
I believe in few month, wvw will be deserted on most of the servers except select few ones.
Can you make the Mystic Core/Tube etc. at least have some vendor selling price?
Because now people have a lot of them, and they are worthless since mystic chests are no longer and Conduits available from BLC.

The person who started this topic is from a medium population server (initially the most deserted server in EU, now with 2h queus in wvw in prime time) and if you belive low servers magically have no queues at all you are deluded. Its just differenceis from 6 hours in prime time on top servers to 2 hours at medium and 1 hour at low. With population spreading out, queues on medium and low servers will get worse (already happening.).
The issues is as stated: too little servers, too many players per server, too little players from server that can join in wvw simultaneously.

Yeah, seems a ranking not really representing a real situation for some reason. I am not sure how they rearranged it, but at any rate -its a ranking prior to the weekly matches start.
Also take a note, that servers are also matched with population in mind, and Seafarers Rest is MEDIUM, while both Abbadons Mouth and Fort Ranik are HIGH. The ranked is based on previous matches (and not all servers had a chance to fight against everyone – for example Fort Ranik was ranked higher than us, because faced weaker servers that it could beat – while we kept fighting a big servers, thus have less wins and thus ranked less: even though this much makes it obvious SR is much stronger than FR (FR is 3rd place, loosing to even lower ranked Abbadonth Mouth on 2nd place).
On other hand – the absolutely weak nightcapping Baruch Bay, that pretty much every server beats in prime time (we lead on them with 400 points vs 50….) is high in ranking, despite being one of the weakest servers we ever fought again – the system is screwed by itself.
Regarding the matchups- as told, we are medium server, and after win in this match probably will be forced to fight against HIGH/FULL servers again moving up the ranks.
We beat most in prime time, but because of lower population are in the middle level of ladder because of weakness against higher populated servers in offtime. Not so noticeable against Abbadon/Ranik (which both are bigger than us, but seems have lost their moral – though for example, Abbadon is more active than us at day too).
The problem with the ranking is that it cant achive “perfect” matchups since there are no 3 equal servers really.
We are medium server that ideally should fight other medium servers, but we are so more successfull in wvw that we have HIGH and sometimes full servers all the time – but thats also our limit, since even if we win against higher populated server on prime time, we`d loose at morning.
We`d prefer to fight equal population as organized wvw server – but there are no other medium servers like that atm. Abbadons and Ranik have to fight equal level and population HIGH servers : Jade Sea, Ring of Fire, Arberstone – but instead they were matched against us.
Either way, score based matchups are not really the most optimal – but fighting proper enemies for each server is even harder, since there really is not many servers of equal population or strength: even the top matchup of 3 overpopulated servers is utterly disbalanced because of night capping population difference.
Lol at the last list. Have absolutely nothing to do with reality. Arena posted results are 100x time more accurate in terms of server power than what you sorted.

Germans have surprisingly high night activity for whatever reason, but apparently not as high as French! Seems to pay the greek and other debts, someone has to still work, and the HARTZ IV alone cant bring the server to top of WvW ladder.
Your reading comprehension is astonishing. No. You just have drained all people from all french servers to yours, so that the others are deserted and we now have to spend week doing jumping puzzles since half our current opponent Fort Ranik guilds ran to Vizunah too.
Overbloated server is overbloated. I would imagine you have some canadians, but considering the overall populations i could believe in jobless people too. What i cant believe though is “normal” people playing every day at 5 AM enmasse – the argument about jobs and stuff that others brought up, i can relate to it.
Lol, Phara. YOU do the night capping – every higher populated server does against any lower populated. When we fought against FS we were leading in points in prime time – still lost by a lot, since had no presence at night/day.
So basically every higher populated server is high at ladder atm, since its due to population – with or without special organization is more active in offtime. Your situation right now is that 3 most populated server in EU are still expiriencing the same problem, since some server will ALWAYS have higher offtime activity. Thats the problem with the system. From high servers Riverside is active at night capping, but seems not active enought for your league.
Many servers in EU benefit from night capping (hell, even us right now cap most of map at night not since intended, but since our opponents gave up: thus the gap grows exponentially even higher. It shoudnt be like that!) – half the high populated servers, some german/french ones, but the only one that i know that really exploits it to a degree i understand VZ does is Baruch Bay – they openly admited they have latin americans playing (not hiding it unlike VZ) and they at the moment are high in ladder only because they cap everything at night – while the rest of the day being stomped by pretty much everyone (not even fight like you have with VZ – litterally, enemies having 400 points while they like 50 at primetime…): a best illustration, likely even better than VZ case of why the system is broken.
Sounds like SCUM (JUDGE nowadays). Something in their style. Though if thats them, they are likely better pvpers than people complaining about them.
