The average player just cannot complete the story !

In GW1 you had the option of selecting normal mode and hard mode. It at least provided payers with an option to play at the level they wanted

The problem is that ANET sunk a lot of cash into the HoT project and it failed to meet the expected financial returns. (I am not going to go into the why and how in this thread).

They are not going to be making any major investments any time soon in the game. Its a simple matter of cash-flow. they need to recoup their investment in HoT before anything else is invested.

Something everyone on this topic should watch.

This is an excellent video and get to the point of “Where does this begin and end ?”

As one of the people say in the video, “it is up to the individual to protect themselves, as there is no clear definition of what even begins to be a spoiler”

Let me also state here that i have ZERO sympathy for those individuals that intentionally and not in the context of a chat discussion just shoot out movie details.

I am sorry but i have a big issue with this “Reporting Policy”.

So we are now going to start reporting everyone for anything that “may” spoil someone else life ? Whats the next movie or event we will pick to do this on ? Are political and religious events included ? What about cultural issues ?

Where does this end ?

Yes. I agree that its not “morally” right to be doing this, but whats next ?

“ANET, please put a gag order on everything and anything on the game because it will spoil my life !”

The whole internet, radio and TV is full of spoilers for the new Star Wars movie.

My local TV here in CT was discussing certain major events in the movie 1 day after it showed !!! Talk about spoilers there on 6 pm news !

I say “live and live”.

Like someone else said, for those that do not want to be “spoiled” set your chat to your guild, assuming you have no idiots there and leave there until you see the movie.

This “eye for an eye” approach is getting ridiculous.

Some common sense would go a long way, and some “under-reaction” rather than “over-reaction” would also help.

My 10 cents…

in PvP

Posted by: Prime Greek.1092

Prime Greek.1092

Give it up Mido ! It wont happen.

The way all PvP game go are as follows:

1. Game starts .
2. One team starts to loose.
3. Players on loosing team stop playing / give up. They become “AFKers”
4. Remaining players on loosing team get their behinds handed to them, and become frustrated at people not playing or that have quit.
5. Same people log on to GW2 forums to vent and request reporting of AFKers.

What we need is not a “reporting” system. We need to have the ability to “replace” AFKers or rage quitting players with others DURING the game.

Unfortunately doing this in fair and equitable way is impossible.

Suffice is to say, PvP is never going to be what it was envisioned 3+ years ago.

Prime Greek.1092

ANET did this intentionally.

They needed to do it from their business model perspective.

Why?

Too much gold was being held by players on the sidelines and those amounts where growing based on what the dungeons, Fractals, and Bosses where dishing out.

This also impacted negatively the amount of Jewels bought by gold rather than using actual cash currency.

Remember that ANET makes 90% of their money off the TP. Recirculating gold earned in the game into jewels by players gives them Zero Income.

I agree with most that this strategy has failed and has only driven more players AWAY from the game.

However, as with most companies, trying to convince them that their decision was wrong and that they should institute a correction is a pipe dream.

These types of companies would rather sink with the ship than admit failure.

The ANET Developers have lost touch with their true audience.

They keep insisting on designing / adding content for themselves and the 5% hardcore players, forgetting the 95% of casual players are who sustain the game and pay their salaries.

You don’t keep biting the hand that feeds you.

I stopped playing HoT because its just too hard, too annoying and too un-rewarding.

No way. ANET and their SW developers need a wake up call.

Personally I would fire them all as a VP. They have missed the marketing mark and have cost NC SOFT millions in lost revenue.

They treat this game as if it’s their personal sand box and they keep missing the mark.

You guys are so wrong in the direction you are taking thids game.

Need to focus on the casual and average player.

You need to look back at GW1 and relearn some lessons learned. You took a great game and destroyed it.

Why did they make Maguma so hard?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Prime Greek.1092

Prime Greek.1092

So got HOT the other day and I’m sick with the game play i really hate it its the worst, and i find myself going to other games now and just not playing

Maguma is all team based nothing solo all team based join a team maybe survive don’t join a team and you die.

Maguma is so OP you have mordrem snipers who can take out a whole team with one shot you might as well be canon fodder, then you have mushroom kings and vets they explode poison and again can take out a whole team in one go, giant beetles small beetles, pocket raptors huge monsters way to many Op bosses and monsters and stuff for anyone to solo.

Bosses respawn too fast you manage to kill some monsters and you turn around and there back again and before you know it you are swarmed and mobbed yet again the.

The mastery system is awesome the way it is designed to work is awesome but the xp is way too much first mastery is pretty easy next mastery is 1 mill+ xp you get very little xp for any events you do i mean 11k xp when your training mastery that needs 1mill + xp is nothing and bearly adds anything to the xp bar its more of a grind you have to grind grind grind there for its no fun.

You have to learn mastery to continue with your story again the rewards and too little for the grinding you have to do, am i the only one who genuinely feels that HOT content is really annoying and bad and over powered in maguma I for one don’t have time to spend 10-15 hours a day grinding for xp.

Every character I have I have done the hard way to get to 80 done the story lines so I’m not new to having to work for what you want but I thought it might be a bit easier and better and a better experience, for me I just think the way the xp is laid out for the amount of grinding you have to do is not worth it.

I thought the first expansion would be a bit better and more aimed towards the community and not such a bore to play needless to say I’m very disappointed.

I agree with you 100%

ANET has lost their focus as to who their target audience is.

I am also tired of seeing replies that say: “you have no skills”, “need to spend more time developing your skills”, “wrong build”, " the content is not intended for you"

These statement are all wrong, because this expansion was suppose to big fro EVERYONE ! REGRADLESS OF SKILL LEVEL !!!

Did the expansion say “ONLY FOR HARDCORE GAMERS” or " CASUAL PLAYER MAY NOT BE ABLE TO PLAY ALL ASPECTS OF THIS GAME ?"

ANET should not have made it so hard that casual players cannot enjoy or play all aspects.

Turn down the difficulty for Casual Players

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Prime Greek.1092

Here’s what I’d like to see:

Open world content – easy to moderate difficulty
Open world events – scaling difficulty, with difficult side events, bonus events, etc.
Hero Points – selectable difficulty, with scaling loot (Easy, Difficult, Nightmare)
Instanced content (including raids and dungeons) – selectable difficulty (Easy, Difficult, Nightmare), with scaling loot.

Everybody wins.

I could not agree more.

I think that all content should be accessible by people of every scale.

I also think that some of the people replying should not be using terms like “lack of skill”, “more time to develop”, “bad/lazy players”.

All people in this game play to the level they can. And yes, my guild and I are on the low end of performance but we try and we have fun.

However we feel very excluded from HoT and from Raids.

Making content so difficult that people cannot enjoy is just wrong and unfair. ANET needs to bring balance to this game for all players.

Our skills are good. We have played the game since the beginning and have over 14K AP each. and we each have at least one legendary weapon crafted with full ascended armor and weapons.

Still, the difficulty is to high in our opinion. I have seen others on this forum and other with the same complain . I am trying to propose a solution to a key question.

“CAN ANET ACCOMDATE BOTH THE PLAYER THAT WANTS AN EASIER CONTENET AS WELL AS ONE THAT LIKES A HARDER ONE ?”

Seems that in GW 1 that was possible. Why not in GW 2 also ?

I think that would allow all players to enjoy the game at the level they want.

That’s also makes better business sense fro ANET. Why turn away people form the game if you can accommodate them ?

Prime Greek.1092

I am not sure why ANET and their developers keep focusing on Hardcore players and their demands for more difficult content and ignore casual players.

ANET themselves have stated that the majority of their player base are casual players playing approx. 20 hrs a week.

Why do we (Casual players) have to take the brunt of these “insane” difficulty changes to all of the new content ?

My friends and I where looking forward to HoT, only to get turned off by the level of difficulty and coordination required. We just don’t have that kind of abilities.

As a result my friends and our guild no longer participate in HoT maps.

We just finished the HoT story and left the map. There was no fun in playing it.

Neither did the Masteries in HoT offer anything that we valued in that area.

Same with Raids. We were all excited about them, only to discover that the difficulty level was huge. That’s not fun for Casual players or fair. Excluding people that do not have the time or skill or resources is just wrong.

The Game is suppose to be appealing and fun to all levels. Not only Hardcore players.

We need a system where both Casual and Hardcore players can enjoy new content and challenges without frustration.

As I have said before, bring back the old GW 1 “Hard Mode” button.

That was a great feature in GW1, where players could switch from Normal (Easy) Mode to Hard Mode with a flick of switch and both player categories could enjoy the game.

It also allowed Casual Players to occasionally try the “Hard Modes” on their terms.

But please stop making everything so difficult to enjoy.

Something to think about.

Heart of thorns impact for casual gamer

The features of the expansion offer more depth, complexity and challenges. Specializations, master traits, a new character class. All seem to be centered on burst damage, delivering maximum amount of damage in the shortest possible time. This is great for hardcore gamers.

For the casual gamer however this sucks donkeyballs. I always enjoyed playing elementalist. Now he has been rebalanced in such a way that survivavility is completely gone. The tempest specialisation is near useless in PvP since nobody is going to sit there for 4 seconds while you charge to unleash armageddon. With this expansion, where the elementalist has low health and other classes gained huge damage boosts, the elementalist is completely unplayable for the casual gamer.

Please fix the balance for the casual player!

I cannot agree more with you.

ANET consistently is catering to the Hardcore players. As if hardcore players are the majority. This is the problem when developers are running the company.

In GW1 we had a very nice feature. A switch that would turn the game from Normal to Hard Mode.

We need that switch in GW2 !

This would allow us “Casual” players to enjoy the game while the “Hardcore” gorillas could pound away at the more difficult events and enemies.

Eir's Story [Spoilers]

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Prime Greek.1092

Prime Greek.1092

Very well stated and put. Eir was disgraced by ANET !

In chapter 6 of the HoT story, Prisoners of the Dragon when Eir is defeated by a minion of Mordremoth as much as this was foreshadowed, her legacy and her honour have, I feel, been disgraced.

First and foremost Eir was Norn and for over 200 years Norn have been known to be great solo Hunters and Eir was firm in her role in during the start of young Norn’s in guiding them to build their own legends.

Eir was a fierce and strong ally with Wisdom enough to have once lead Divinity’s Edge.

Eir may have been a little weakened from being imprisonment and was clearly worse for wear but with her Totem spirit being Wolf I believe she would have conserved her Strength and even though stabbed by Faolin, she still gave as good as she got.

To see Eir being impaled in to a nearby tree without one last fight, however futile, is what bring disgrace to her Legacy and in my eyes, even if Eir knew the fight was already lost she would have relished that one last chance to go out fighting with tooth and claw.

Eir could have Become the Wolf and entered a Blood Frenzy to recoup some of her strength, Eir could have and indeed should have gone out fighting, with her honour as a Norn intact.

Eir deserves a Heroes death as she also deserves a Heroes Remembrance.

Suggestion for Anet involving Mentor tags

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Do not change the Mentor Tags !

The majority of people complaining are people that paid for Commander Tags and find the Mentor Tag competing with theirs on a Map.

As someone who has both a Commander and Mentor tag, I do not have an issue. If anything, I find Mentor tags helpful in many maps where events are taking place and no Commander has a tag on, they actually help people locate others.

So what if on the extreme side, some maps may have 10 mentor tags (or more) on ? I think it actually helps people see where other players are.

And in HoT with low populations on maps, that’s a really good thing !

Prime Greek.1092

I think ANET is pushing to make money by creating Gold and Mat sinks, while minimizing ROR (Return on Rewards) for new game play. The truth is too many people (myself included) had stashed too much gold and Mats over the past 3 years and we were not moving it into the game market. So much Gold and Mats sitting on the sidelines was not good for the GW2 economy. This was mentioned several times by the developers.

By creating all these Gold and Mat sinks (precursor creation, new Ascended recipes with more expensive mat requirements, reduced rewards from Dungeons, Fractals, etc, the player base will be forced to invest in Gems to covert to Gold.

I think that this is a big mistake.
IMO ANET is driving people further and further away from the game.

Fewer Rewards = Fewer People Playing = Fewer GEMs sold = More Nerfing to Force People to by Gems = Even Fewer Rewards = Even Fewer People playing = Even Fewer Gems sold = More Nerfing …..etc. etc.

This is not a good game model or business model.

ANET may be better off to come out and say that the play for free model is not working, and start charging a monthly fee, and thus restore the rewards and improve RNG to the player base and not depend on GEM purchases to fund their game.

Totally agree.

GW2 is a failure. That is when compared to the Masterpiece called GW.

Why change a succesful formula ANET ?

Look at the playability of the original.

I have started playing it gain because i got bored with GW2

EVERYTHING THAT MADE THE ORIGINAL GREAT WAS REMOVED !!!

Henchmen
Missions
Customization
Inter character and interskill mixing
Unpredictability
Playability
Teams and Guilds

Now we have a game that will become Obsolete by New Years.

The orignal one has lasted almost a decade !

Sad, if you think how long it took them to develop GW2.

Ahhhhh…. back to GW.
