imo this looks terrible. there are really not a lot of great rifle choices, fewer with effects of any kind. A ship. Really? As an engineer I wouldn’t even see it much since I use kits, which makes it even less worth getting. I do think another rifle legendary was needed. But not this.
This could be considered a spoiler for folks who like to explore everything themselves…
After trying for about an hour to get up into this little cave area I noticed near the Depths of the Maw WP, I finally made it and took a bunch of screenshots and was glowing from my victory; SURELY I was the first person ever to figure this out, right? No, of course not. I searched, I saw a post on reddit about it and I’m sure there are more elsewhere. Maybe there is one in these forums but I didn’t see it. So anyway…
For those that like to explore every nook and cranny of a map, there is this to check out. I gather that it was some map element that they were going to include but then didn’t. The reddit post seemed to indicate they have no plans to do anything with this area now.
I was a little disappointed that this wasn’t a hidden jp; no chest or anything. And I can’t believe that when I made it to the floating rock with the updrafts no balloons and confetti were dropped down from the heavens to mark my achievement. Alas. Maybe they’ll add that next time.
You can also get below the world from here and die. I did that a few times, just for funsies.
My storyline is bugged in the last step of the “Strange Observations” story (where it wants you to “share the news” with your team). I went the wrong way at first (missed the little hole you go through to get to the group) and went all the way back down to the bouncing mushrooms and ended up just underneath the group. Taimi popped up with the rest of the team, so when I came back around (the right way) she was already there and nothing happened. Could not advance the story. I found another thread where other people reported having problems with this part of the story, though for different reasons.
I also completed the Verdant Brink map and got no reward. I had 100% map completion prior to HoT release.
I have already finished all of the story episodes, and am going trough them now for achievements. Currently working on Echoes of the Past, Hidden Arcana. I am bugged and cannot enter Glint’s lair, at the point where you’re supposed to talk to Stonehealer. Like others are saying, he just gives options for lore dialogue but not anything that will progress the story.
After experiencing this the first time, I logged out and tried again. Same issue. There is briefly a window (no text) that pops up behind/before the list of lore options, but there’s nothing to click and it happens just for a second.
As i said, I have completed all of the living story episodes once already. I mentioned in another thread that my story seems to be bugged in that the Echoes of the Past episode is acting like I haven’t finished it, even though I have (the icon/green star thingy indicates that I haven’t finished the series of stories in that episode, even though I have, and does not give an option to “replay” the episode but rather to “continue” it). I don’t know if that has anything to do with the issues I’m having.
I have completed all the episodes at least once
I have only ever done the living story stuff on ONE of my characters
I have not grouped with anyone for any part of ANY story/episode
This happened to me too with Echoes of the Past. It gives me the option to see the achievements (button appears over the chest in my story journal) and I absolutely know I finished all episodes, but it’s acting like I need to finish this still.
I am ASSUMING that if I go through all of them again (ugg, not fun) it will mark this episode as completed and allow me to do achievements.
edit: I had to go through the first two episodes (which do not have achievement options) before seeing that it would in fact allow me to complete the achievements. But the icon for this storyline still shows as if I have not finished it, and acts like I haven’t.

@ Quae … In one part your complaining that the new system is too cumbersome and that the other system was easier becuase it had easier choices but then you complain about some choices being too easy, this is then followed by choices being too hard like a fractal. Then complaints about rewards which are are same what we got from the last system. I can tell that you are extremely satisfied by this change ( no sarcasm)
Hmmm. That’s not really a correct paraphrasing of my point(s). I didn’t say I liked the previous system because it had, in your words, “easier choices”. What I said was that there were more choices, and more types of choices (daily lvl, personal story, daily kills, etc), which made it easier for an individual to pick dailies that fit with his/her play style. The individual tasks that one might perform to complete the daily are a different matter, but you seem to be confusing those two points. It’s understandable; I wrote a lot! It can get confusing.
But as to the second point — at least if I understand where your confusion lies — it’s pretty simple: doing the daily SHOULD take time, but I feel like the time spent on each category/task should be more balanced. I believe I specifically mentioned this in my previous post: having a 10 second vista in a lowbie zone and then a 40 minute daily Jormag or Fractal is … odd. Unbalanced.
It means we are spending 90% of our time on 1/3 of the total daily. Whaaat?
To me, that doesn’t make sense. And viewing a vista I’ve seen at least once across 6 characters so far, even if it only takes 10 seconds, is not very challenging or rewarding. With the previous system, however, the different tasks needed to complete the daily felt more equal to each other. There were fewer “freebies” like the vista, but nothing extremely time consuming either. It was more evenly paced/balanced.
The rewards, aside from additions appearing in the login reward panel, are pretty much the same. You’re right. What I complained about, what I said was very cumbersome, is largely how they are packaged. That has definitely changed with the new system.
This is true EVERYWHERE and I see it as one of the main reasons I become less engrossed and invested in this game than I have in MMOs like EverQuest where none of the NPCs say anything. It’s actually MORE disruptive to that “real life” feel to have them repetitive and annoying, “breaking the 4th wall”, than to have them silent. When I first started playing GW2 during beta, I had actually turned all the ambient chat off I think (iirc that is an option). But I shouldn’t have to do that. Just have it on a longer loop.
I also think it’d be relatively easy and VERY worth it for them to change up some of the things merchants and other NPCs say when you interact with them. I understand that there are a lot of Norn praying to the spirits of the wild, and that the spirits rarely answer, but I’m tired of hearing about it. I was tired of it after the first month. Just a wee bit more variety…
“I haven’t taken leave of my senses! I’ve seen creatures of metal and steam!” Yes lady, we get it. We have ALL heard it by now….
(edited by Quae.5431)
(continued…)
7) Over all, it’s more cumbersome. This may be my BIGGEST issue with the new system. More pop-ups getting in my face, more clicking “ok”, more chests wiggling at me begging to be opened, more opening chests so they can give me bags so i can open bags so they can give me items so i can click on items so I get my laurels, experience, etc. More individual items, bottles, bags taking up inv space, waiting to be transferred to the character I would RATHER BE PLAYING. I’m tired of having to transfer dailies exp scrolls to the character I’m trying to level. Just make it so I can play any character I want and get it done.
I can only assume this is an experiment to test our “clicking on stuff” tolerance.
8) Daily world bosses. PLEASE NO. If I just got home from work and have an hour to play, I am absolutely kitten out of luck if Maw just finished and my only other option is a fractal run if I want to do the daily. The daily should not take 3 hours, and timing should not be everything.
9) Less choice for those who prefer PvE or playing solo. I feel like I’m being punished for enjoying one aspect of the game more (arguably, pve is the “main” aspect of the game). There was one day with TWO fractal options. Two? And then a 10 second vista. Speaking of…
10) Cheap thrills. Some of the daily achievements have always been a gimmie, like “daily crafter” where you’d just refine 10 of something. Painfully easy, barely worth doing, not worth rewarding me for. Now we have a “daily vista” in Queensdale along side a “daily fractal” or bunch of events in Orr (for example), and the huge difference between these kinds of tasks is… silly. One takes 30 min, the other takes less than 30 seconds…?
There are more but look how crazy long this is!
At this point, I don’t really care if I get my daily done which means I don’t really care if I play GW2. In case anyone is thinking “If you don’t like it, quit”: yeah, I already thought of that. It’s a good idea.
I’m sure it’s been discussed already, but I honestly don’t know what was wrong with the old system. Or, at the very least, I don’t know how this is supposed to be better.
Sorry this is long! (two posts cuz apparently you’re not allowed to write a book in the forums)
This is actually the brief list of reasons why I don’t like the new system. The overall problem is that the dailies are so restrictive now that people can’t play the game how THEY think is fun and get it done. More open-ended daily achievements like daily leveler, daily personal story, or regional events/gathering (instead of zone-specific) would go a long way to fixing the problem(s).
I held off on posting, thinking I might “get used to it”. Nope:
1) Daily events, especially in noob zones, are over-crowded and can take forever. I spent something stupid like 1.5 hours in Metrica Province the other day trying to get dailyevents done. With the megaserver, there are so many fracking people shoved into one zone that by the time I knew the event was starting it was pretty much over (bonus hate: more lag). My strategy ended up being to just stand around kicking rocks and staring at my shoes in a place where I knew an event would EVENTUALLY start, then do just enough to get credit before ditching and looking for a new event that hadn’t started yet. Hooray for playing….?
2) It’s made it more difficult to do dailies with my friends and family. One example: I can no longer do dailies with my nephew, who doesn’t have any characters over lvl 40ish (he likes creating new characters; 11 year olds aren’t big on commitment). I’ve gotta go do Megadestroyer and forage in Malchor’s Leap if I want my 10 ap. Meanwhile, he can’t complete the daily AT ALL. I can’t even offer to help.
3) You don’t earn an AP for everything you do, you just get 10 at the end … so if you end up doing most of it (2 completely done, 3/4 events completed) but then have to go to work, you get ZERO POINTS. Not fun. Gimme a little credit for what I did do, even if I don’t earn laurels.
4) Getting a prize just for logging in feels cheap and lame. Next will we be getting experience and money for NOT logging on (I’m told WoW had that “resting experience”)? Laurels, by definition, are a “recognition of achievement.” Reward us as we go…. for, you know, actually DOING STUFF.
5) The “just for showing up” rewards are not awesome. Today I got three tomes of knowledge. …Yay?
As a side note: please stop putting everything in its own little bag (see #6)!!! Mellagan’s mercy, it’s unpleasant! Just make the laurels go directly into my “bank”. Just give me the ACTUAL tome of knowledge instead of making me click the bag open to reveal the tome we all knew was inside! It’s just annoying.
6) You can’t do events, gather, or otherwise gain experience on any character you want. When lvling a new character, I want to PLAY that character for the daily. Maybe she can’t go to Silverwastes, or even Sparkfly, for events. I have multiple lvl 80s, but only one has 100% map completion. I don’t want to have to log her on just because she’s the only one that can go gather in god-knows-where. Too restrictive.
I searched the forums and don’t see anyone else having mentioned it, but I have encountered two “bugs” in the new ls (in Silverwastes) having to do with keys and full inventory.
Due to all the Wintersday presents (ugh the snowflakes), I am walking around with a pretty full inventory on all my characters! I hadn’t realized my inventory had filled up again when I finished the Drydock jp and was looking for the 3 key pieces needed to open the Skritt burglar chest. The piles of rubble, when I interacted with them, said only “there is nothing here but rubble” (or something similar). It did NOT do the standard “your inventory is full” or open up a loot window so I could at least see what I would be looting if I had room in my bags. Just “there is nothing here but rubble.” Took me a few minutes to figure out what was wrong; I thought maybe I had missed a milestone. The problem, when it arises, should be more clear to the player. The “full inventory” problem should be indicated as it would be in any other looting situation.
More frustrating than that, I ended up with a full inv again when I attempted to make my first Key of Greater Nightmares. I tried to combine the nightmare essence with the bandit skeleton keys, and all that happened was my keys got eaten. I didn’t get a nightmares key in return. I assumed, since I had the exact number of each required in my inventory (so each stack would be 100% used up, freeing some space), that this would produce the desired key. Again, no “you don’t have room for this, dummy” message or anything… it just ate my keys. Not understanding what happened, I used crests to buy more keys and tried it twice more with the same result: NO key of greater nightmares. Just consumed bandit skeleton keys. It did NOT consume the nightmare essence on any of these attempts, however.
I dunno if these can be considered true bugs, and obviously this can be avoided if your inventory is not full, but if this is the intended mechanism for creating these keys then all I can say is that it’s very disappointing! =p
There are so, so many things I could complain about with the new update. The new trading post ui is cramped and annoying, I don’t like that when I go to my “hero” window it doesn’t default to what is now the “equipment” tab like it used to (please lord change this; it’s not entirely from the newest update, there were “dye” and “wardrobe” tabs added previously and the old way was better). So many other things that make me feel like walking away…
But there are lots of complaint threads, so instead I will say THANKS! Why? For the changes to the quest in Queensdale where you now have to dance for the cows rather than feed them. I discovered this and was inexplicably filled with joy. Now that I know anet is willing to make changes to old quests, and has no problem making them silly or nonsensical (there have always been a few of those), I would like to request that all renown hearts that involve feeding, watering, or otherwise caring for anything, be changed so they are dance-centered. I don’t care if we’re dancing to revive wilted corn. New players will love it. People will eat it up like cows ate hay in days of old, before dance moves alone could sustain them.
Honestly, I would settle for one quest where we dance and/or sing for baby quaggans.
Along with that, I would also like to formally request a “Dancing With the Cows” mini game. The name is self explanatory. Go. Make this happen and all will be forgiven.
[…] you can go to the wiki maps and find areas that have no poi, wp, skill point or heart. Then go to your character’s map and see if the area name shows up. Again a chore if you have more than one character.
Thanks for the tips! I had already done this for my main character, the one who is farthest along in map completion, with no luck. I have multiple lvl 80 characters, so this would have been a real chore indeed had I needed to do it for all of them!
Luckily, I just found my missing piece: motherfracking Tribulation Caverns…!?!?! Argh! I had already done the jp and I know I had already “discovered” this area and come out the other side where the skritt are. All I can think of is that I explored it so early (I had a 3 day headstart or whatever they called it), that they were sill working out bugs maybe…. and/or somehow when the achievement system was added/updated, it didn’t tally up correctly…? I dunno, but this area was nothing new to me. Both my first characters were Norn, and I had done most of Shiverpeaks so long ago that if there was something “weird” that happened, or didn’t happen, when I was initially exploring, I’m sure I wouldn’t have noticed.
It never fails that as soon as I ask in the forums, I figure it out on my own. LOL. Now to finish the wvw map…
Bumping this instead of making a new thread cuz i think this one has some good tips…. None of the areas mentioned here were the ones I’m missing, but they are good tips nonetheless!
Here is my problem: I’m at 174/175 for Shiverpeaks and am going nuts not being able to find the final missing piece. I already have commonly missed ones like Griffenrook, Ulukk’s Hunger, Lair of the Serpent, Forsaken Halls and others mentioned here. I have 100% completion on each zone’s map, so what I was initially doing to check was cross referencing the list of areas within each zone (using the wiki page linked in this thread) and looking for spots that ONLY have a jp or nothing listed in them (I did all the jp). In theory, I should have already “discovered” anything with a wp, poi, vista, etc. No luck with cross-referencing. I must be counting wrong when I compare the areas on my map to the total number each map should have. I’ve done it three times. Instead of something hard to find, I am starting to worry I’m missing something painfully obvious. lol. I’ve searched a dozen other forums and threads here in the gw2 forums. Alas.
Any ideas on what I’m missing? Areas/instances that were added with living stories or otherwise added late in the game?
I was stuck at 173 for the longest time and it turns out I was missing Cragstead. For those that were “early explorers” like myself (meaning I started playing GW2 at launch and had completed Wayfarers within a day), check into it if you’re missing a Shiverpeaks area. I had assumed Cragstead didn’t count for exploration since going into the instance did NOT trigger a “discovery” of the area for me (I thoroughly explored it, determined to get my world completion). I had got the skillpoint in the cave under the instance like 2 years ago so… yeah, I had no reason to go back there on the same character. But I stumbled in there by accident last nigh and was surprised to see that I “discovered” Cragstead in doing so. I had to go in the cave with the skillpoint though, NOT in the instance itself. It’s the one near Solitude wp.

You could always transfer items across professions and orders and across levels before the wardrobe. This is nothing new. It’s something that could be done since launch.
Before the wardrobe I put my Norn necro tattoos on my Charr ele and my Charr ele’s flame eye, I put on my Sylvari Mesmer. People commonly got items from one order and gave them to another char in another, or no order, to use.
To do it, you got the item, used a Transmutation stone or crystal. You transferred the skin to a low level white piece of gear. This broke the soulbinding and made it account bound. You then put it in the bank. You other char picked it up, transmuted it to it’s own piece of gear and then you had a char with gear from different orders or professions. This had to respect the profession types, light to light for example, and cultural armor restrictions but otherwise allowed switching between professions, races, orders and levels.
So what you dislike here has nothing to do with the wardrobe system.
Whoa! I did not know that. lol. If this is true then I guess you’re right, it’s nothing to do with the wardrobe system. It’s just the game being lame. Although, this being the case, the new system does make it infinitely easier to transfer items across orders/professions (based on your description of how it was done before). I mean, now it’s easy enough that someone like me, who is obviously slow when it comes to finding ways to transfer Vigil pants to a Whispers agent using the old system, can easily make such changes. Haha.
But seriously, I am blown away. I have been playing since beta and have never noticed this. Because a character can only join one Order, it never would have occurred to me to attempt to wear armor from multiple orders (or races, professions, etc) so I wasn’t looking for ways get around the limitations that I assumed would be in place. Trying to “outsmart” perfectly logical scenarios, for me, does not compute. But I play largely by myself to explore and waste time, and am kinda oblivious to what other people are doing/wearing ….so I’d never have noticed someone wearing Vigil pants and a Priory coat. On the one hand, the fact that I’ve never noticed should mean it’s not a big deal, right? But on the other hand, I am pretty annoyed/disgusted by this knowledge.
So it’s not a recent oversight. It’s been built in for a while. I don’t know what to say other than that it’s one more disappointing thing which, in my mind, makes GW2 not as solid or tightly-woven a game as some of its predecessors. Oh well, if I can’t have another deep and well-written MMO I am ok with settling for free and pretty!
If lines are getting cut off I would try re-verifying the Gw2.dat(or redownload if your connection if fast enough).
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Command_line
You could use either the -repair or the -verify option.
I did a -repair and when i attempted the quest again i saw some signs of lag early on, but got farther than normal so i thought it was going to work. Unfortunately, i still got disconnected (although this time it was later, i was able to light the beacons first).
There appear to be threads on this in other sections of the forum, but i didn’t see one reporting it as a bug. At first i thought it was just an issue with my internet connection, but after getting disconnected during The Battle of Claw Island 5 or 6 times, I looked it up. It seems people have been having the same issue for months now.
I get to about the same place in the story, lag starts increasing, and then i get disconnected. It always happens right around when the risen start catapulting abominations into the fort. I also noticed issues with npc scripts, like that Traherne talks over himself in a few places (has two or three lines of overlapping dialogue) and that in the cut scene where the bone ship first appears there are lines that sometimes got spoken and sometimes didn’t, i assume due to lag.
It would seem I can’t continue with my personal story until i stop getting kicked off the island.
I’ve done this on other characters just fine, but tried it last night (5/9/13) and it crashed 4 times in the same exact spot, right after the risen abominations appear up by the trebs. Today when I tried it, it started lagging in the same place but i didnt get disconnected until i went to revive Deputy Whatsherface. I dont seem to be having internet connection issues other than that.
I prefer the duster / trench coat look on my Norn engi, but I abhor the fact that so many of the long coat skins make her look bulky and disproportionate. It’s so obnoxious to see a coat that looks nice and sleek on a human or sylvari and then pop it on my norn and it looks chunky as hell. There are skins that I think fit well and look decent, but they’re mostly lower level. So if i want something that shows I worked for it (“status” skins), I’m looking at a lot of ill-fitting coats that I don’t feel good putting time or gold into wearing. Thankfully, there are a few exceptions to the rule.
I am also not thrilled with the CoF “flaming hooters” skin. Is it a women’s lib thing? Is my norn burning her bra as they did in days of old? I may be in the minority here, but i’m not cool with my boobs being on fire. I’d be ok with the smaller flame pattern like the heavy armor has, I suppose. The most annoying part is that there’s another look for the medium CoF chest, but it’s not available for all races/genders. If you look at this, you can see that all of the males and 2 of the females (asura and charr) get the non-flaming-boobage armor skin. Sylvari, Human, and Norn females are stuck with what looks like a flaming bra. The inconsistency is bizarre; why don’t those 3 female sets have the same basic look as the rest of the medium CoF chest armor? Is it because all the males and Charr/Asura females don’t need bras (anatomically speaking)? Just … such a weird design choice…

I have been seriously annoyed by this too, but I still love the ft for many reasons so have been using it since launch. I agree with others that said aiming can be tricky and that there’s maybe a bit of a learning curve (as opposed to the rifle, which always seems to hit any in-range target). I’ve certainly improved my accuracy with it over the months. However, I do think it seems broken in addition to being tricky to learn. There have been countless times when a mob is standing directly in the big jet of flame, just a few feet in front of me, and all i’m seeing is “miss! miss! miss!” even when neither i nor my target is moving. Some small adjustment in my position will change that, sure, but in those situations it’s ridiculous that I should have to make such an adjustment. It’s just not realistic. If i were holding a flamethrower in real life and several feet of flame were spitting out the front, anyone standing in that jet is gonna get burned. There’d be no missing. It makes sense to me that such a kit would be a little tricky to wield, but it shouldnt be this bad.
Anyway I personaly feel it’s not worth to get a legendary on an engineer when you won’t see it for 50% of the fights.
I totally agree. And although it is certainly more true when you’re using kits all the time, I feel many of the legendary weaps for other professions are also a waste of time. Legendary weapons are, like almost everything else in the game that’s supposed to be unique or some kind of status symbol, on a “why bother?” status for me. There are some legendary weaps with cool particle effects, but for the most part there are other skins that I actually like more than legendary. Unfortunately, there are only 2 rifle skins that I would even want on my engi — neither of them legendary — and neither of them is the right color for my outfit =p
I have my engineer at level 80 and it has gotten some “bad nerfs” […] My point with this is that reading the forums past the 26th patch, every class is broken and not viable any more. I don’t know what to think any more and the more I go on the forums the more it depresses me and makes me want to play something else…. Are engineers that bad or are they just not played how they are supposed to.
Well, my complaint is not that the eng is no longer viable across the board. Certainly there are builds that still work. Some peoples’ builds were not affected at all by the patch, of course, and they aren’t complaining. But I had tried several builds people have been raving about since launch and didn’t like any of them (i still don’t understand the love for grenades). I found one build that i liked, that made sense to me, that did what i wanted it to do and made the game seem worth while. With the patch, my build is gone. All of the people saying “learn to adjust, just play something different” are right in many regards. The fact that I can’t find another build that is intuitive and fun for me to play is maybe my own problem, not the fault of the game. But it doesn’t change the fact that my build becoming non-viable means I may have to find not just another build or another class, but another game altogether. That is the part that’s disappointing to me. With all that GW2 has going for it (it’s gorgeous!), I have found it lacking in many ways from the start. I felt “at home” with my engineer build, but now it’s gone. So it’s going to take me a while to see if I can find something else about the game that feels like home, and in the meantime I’m going to pout about the changes. That’s the plan. haha.
oh goodness yes please. doing the subcombines is super obnoxious. it’s not as bad as it is in some other MMOs, and in many ways i find the crafting system in GW2 to be too easy and very pointless, but that doesnt mean i want it to be tedious too.
What is all this terrible qq-ing about?
All of you playing PvE incuding WvW: Gaining titles is a huge chunk of the PvE experience. They title-letters below the nme plates aren’t are far less visible than the name plates themselves. I have a feeling that most of the hate against title displays comes from nothing but jealousy.
No it comes from the fact that i dont need my screen all cluttered up. Unfortunately, my computer is not awesome and i have neither a big ol’ monitor nor a super fast gaming computer. I want the option to turn off everything i possibly can during a dragon event just so i can not lag out and die. I have several titles to chose from, myself, and if other people want to hide them that’s fine by me. It doesn’t make my humble achievements any less valuable or the time spent getting them any less fun.
I also really do not like the color that the titles are in (it’s just white, I guess, but it bugs me). Is there a way to change that? I can’t check right now but I guess I should poke around in the options next time I’m on because it’d be great if I could change text colors.
(edited by Quae.5431)
haha i started playing my elementalist finally too. She had been sitting at lvl 3 since launch, because i fell in love with my engineer. The ele is only lvl 17 now and I can’t say i’m quite as excited about her (or GW2 in general, since my engi was really the only reason i kept playing) but maybe fire attunement will help heal the pain. just maybe.
EverQuest has a ton of options for stuff like this (which is one of the many things that makes that game fantastic, imo), like you can do “/shownames 1” for just seeing a person’s first name or “/shownames all” if you wanted to see everything like first name, last name, guild tag, etc. I’d love to see an option like that here.
No, the one thing that engineers miss about kit refinement is the condition removal. Most used elixir gun, a few used flamethrower—but the important thing was you could have condition removal without needing 20 points in alchemy and/or elixirs on your utility bar.
People are reacting strongly against the patch because even though the new KR effects are cool, they don’t fill that hole in a non-elixir build.
This is so true. I’ve already said it a dozen times in other threads, but the ONLY reason I keep elixir gun up is for the KR super elixir. Not the SE in the kit itself, which uses ground targeting, but the KR-triggered one. And the only reason i took KR is for SE. The other KR skills can be marginally useful, but over all don’t seem to make much difference. It’s a joke trait now for sure. This change, for me, makes both KR and the Elixir Gun useless (well ok… i still like the toolbelt aoe regen).
As far as SE goes, I rarely have to drop down the ground targeted version from the kit, and i don’t use it for healing much. The triggered SE was the only thing I used for condition removal. The rest of the elixir gun kit is just ok. I will likely be switching it out now, which is fine except it’s going to take a loooong time to get used to something new considering that constant kit switching — with the expectation that certain things will happen, like SE dropping — is programmed into my fingers at this point. I’m on autopilot with that stuff, and am not afraid to admit that I’m grumpy about the patch because I’m not good at adjusting to change! lol
Part of what I’ll miss is just that the KR super elixir was fun and it made me feel helpful. I liked to do drivebys and drop it down as I ran past someone who was fighting to give them a little extra help. Or when I was exploring a new zone it was awesome plop down while I was crippled and running for my life, and have it cure my conditions and save my little behind. Yes, I know there are other options for condition removal, but it’s just not the same. /sniffle
a couple people have talked about it like it’s no big deal to count to 20 in your head to manage cooldowns, but the reality is that it’s just too fricking difficult. There needs to be some indication, like with all other cooldowns, as to how long you’ve got left til you can use it. I need to see it ticking down. There’s no way that in a fast-paced dungeon where you’re talking to group members and doing your job in the group you can also count to 20 w/o losing your place. I need a timer on screen like they have for every other cooldown. And as EVERYONE keeps saying: it is absolutely ridiculous to think that I’m not going to switch to the med kit for a heal just because I don’t want to waste the KR cuz in 10 seconds I think I’m gonna want to use the glue trail or whatever. That’s foolish. I wish i could perma opt out of some of the kr triggers and save them for kits where the trigger doesnt suck (which is none of them now, btw).
We knew we were losing kit refinement. Did you really expect a 10 point trait to remain that powerful?
they could just moved up the tree, everyone would been fine with that, and besides look at all our tool grand master? do you consider them build defining or a sad little joke ?
I never really noticed it being overpowered or thought about the cost versus the performance. For me, it was useless except for super elixir; i was spending 10 points for that ONE thing, which seemed a fair trade. Kit refinement should have been moved up the tree and then pretty much left how it was. The grandmaster tool traits are a joke.
20 second static cooldown..not cool…not cool at all. Theres no way a -good- engineer who switches kits like crazy could ever keep track of and make use of kit refinement now.
Totally agree. I play 3 and sometimes 4-kit (depending on the situation) and switch like mad to use all the skills I want/need. It would help if there was some indication of how much time was left on the cooldown, but really…it’s just too long. Also, as far as utility and usefulness to a group, triggered super elixir was awesome. I feel naked and useless without it. Alas.
I gotta say, I am pretty much as angry as I can be about the changes with kit refinement (as angry as I can get over a game, anyway). I was very happy with my engi before, and she’s the only character I’ve really learned to like in GW2…and now this. I’ll get used to it, but it’s extremely disappointing. It mostly comes down to super elixir for me. My favorite source of quick condition removal is gone. The ONLY kit that needed to be changed, imo, was the med kit because the triggered spell for that previously made no sense (burst of fire).
Ruined.
I also would love to see self-targeting available in game for the reasons already mentioned (I want to see how my name/titles look to other people). It’s something I’ve been able to do in every other MMO I’ve played and, for various vanity-related reasons, I miss it. I recall being very annoyed by this in original GW as well.
I have been pretty annoyed by the target dropping on my engineer. If i get adds during a fight, i want to finish off the mobs i’m already working on before starting the new ones, but i frequently find my target has randomly changed and i have to find my lowest health mob again in a group of several. This is especially annoying if i end up in a downed state trying to get some rally action. At first i thought it might be some button i was hitting on accident, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. It just … happens.
I agree that the waypoint cost is too much. It needs to be cut in half. Like others have said, you already have to pay to repair your armor. ALso, it’s not as if the waypoint is right next to where you died most of the time: there’s still a run back to the fight… so that is penalty enough! I’ve just spent the last 10 minutes (yeah, no joke) downed and NO ONE will revive me and i dont have enough money to get to a wp because i just spent it all on crafting. heh. I had been working on jewelry at an outpost that came under attack, and now im gonna be laying there until the end of time because waypoints cost too much… there’s no way i should have to pay over a silver to travel 50 feet. Either cut the waypoint cost or make another way for people to revive that is free but somehow inconvenient (so there is still penalty), like extra armor damage or something.
