it’s pretty interesting.
every time when a random noob create a topic about a sepcific ranger nerf in the pvp section.
it takes around 1-2 days and you can see exatly this nerfs in the patch description.
1 pet qq on pvp section => hard pet dmg nerf and hard pet range nerf (bm ranger)
1 sprit ranger qq on pvp section => some days later first spirit nerfs, followed by more
1 smokescale qq on pvp secition => 2 day later smokescale hard nerf
1 lingering light qq on pvp section => lingering light hard nerf
etc etc. there is for sure more.
every time ranger gets good in pvp they nerf it verry fast down.
of course anet don’t want to get ranger players viable in pvp.
in the same time it hurts ranger for pve aswell, but maybe they don’t want rangers to get viable anywhere.
but this thief/mesmer combo and celestial ele cheese can faceroll for one year.

there is three good ideas around in this forum which would solve this issue…
1.) make f1 and f3 to attack and come back on one button so we can use f3 as second pet ability, problem on nearly all pets solved.
2.) let us choose between the two pet abilitys which one we want to use on f2 .
as example smokescale between the revenant attack or the smokefield.
3.) create a second smokescale pet, so one can heave the old f2 ability.
smokescale was the best pet ever created, don’t leave it this way.

I like to use the f2 to stack might with WHaO.

this is completely unrealistic in a real pvp scenario. completely. the only use for this field is blasting it before the fight so the team doesn’t have to run a thief (they got deleted from pvp apparently, Karl has some ’splainin to do).

some short examples of verry useful smoke field use:

positive of this skill now:
it does what it should do (finaly again), healing allies. good for raids ofc i guess.
negative of this skill:
it dies when you use the rez for a downed player and go on huge cooldown.
spirits at all can’t follow any more.
this two negatives makes spirits a boring spawn to get passives
pve only mechanic.
you lose the active play because they die if you do that (how stupid is that please)
they can’t follow, just bad when a fight moves to an other positon out of spirits range.
overall:
spirits was amazing one year ago and suck now.
95% dmg reduce would fit perfect to the old spirit system

moving spirits for pve:
with this changes moving spirits should work verry well in pve,
i guess they are nearly never targeted by mobs and can survive verry good even when they stay near to the ranger now? (also because of druid, (would heave been amazing with the old version of lingering light, but ok…))
at least, it’s much more fun to use spirits when they follow and you can time the active skills on the right moment if you need them (things like blind, but for that they should stop dying from this)
moving spirits for pvp/wvw:
a lot of rangers asking to get moving spirits back for pvp/wvw and i can just say,
just bring it back, i see no reason to don’t let them move in player vs player situations.
and it would open more builds diversity for rangers and make shortbow a viable weapon again.
there is no real reason to be annoyed by ranger spirits as long peoples are ok with mesmer clones, it’s way more hard to deal with this then with ranger spirits.
every ai can move exept of spirits, they don’t even attack, please just think shortly about this, there is/was no sense to remove spirits unbound
sry for off topic, but this dmg reduce for ai in pve makes me feel like spirits unbound should still exist
This was the systemic change to help with pet survivability that I’d alluded to earlier.
I’ll be listening for feedback on the changes to see how the 95% damage reduction feels and whether we need to tweak the numbers some more.

this trait change sounds like a nerf for me, before it was better in my opinion.
on discription it sounds still nice but in practice i fear it’s worse.
the beta version with the wisp circles you for 5 seconds was much better.
simply because it was up for 5 seconds healing you, allys and the pet without the need to attack.
in the same time you was able to build up celestial avatar faster with it.
and of course the shiny wisp arounding you looks nice.
now, with this changes you just heal every 6 seconds(?) for one time.
comparing this to the beta version of this trait, where a wisp arounded you for 5 seconds and healed you and allies without the need to attack for 5 seconds…
make it look verry bad for me.
at least you can random blind with it…
but lets see when it’s out, this change is made allready so…
to late to test it because no second beta weekend for ranger and engi.
the rest looks good, but not to much interesting changes for
ranger in pvp i guess.

the player is losing the ability to controll the pet.
after that, the pet is starting to attack the ranger player.
reason behind this change:
the pet sees that his master is weak and wants to take the lead.

well, i guess our pets are just really true friends and keep helping us in downstate.

ele, mesmer and thief downstates even decide about winning or losing a teamfight in some key situations when you heave to stability stomp them…, haha.

as i see you like to play guardian a lot,
guardians received a verry good shield buff on this patch,
i ask myself why no ranger should complain about the nice shield buffs on guardian,
because this buffs make shield a verry good counterplay to projectiles and to most ranger builds running around.

when your own profession get a pretty good shield buff on this patch aswell.

a lot of players with some specific professions had a to long time where there lovely professions was to much on the top of the meta.
the ranger profession is not used in esl since one year and is the weakest one compared to the other professions.
so… looks like all ranger players had to play better since one year now to receive some win/reward in pvp.
i guess that was a good training, so the time to farm mesmers like you will come some day again, haha.. :P

Greatsword #4 Counterattack and Greatsword #5 Hilt Bash need to have the same range. They read as the same range but this is not true when actually using Hilt Bash.
If Hilt Bash had the same range as Counterattack, Rangers could stream attack combos much more easily.Sword #2 ~ After the first click which jolts you backwards, the time interval that allows you to wait before needing to do the second click, should be increased. This would allow a Ranger greater time to untarget, face a direction and jolt away with the second click jolt forward. This would help the Ranger with it’s disengagement and give a viable choice over Greatswords.
Axe Off-Hand #5 ~ Increase the radius of effect baseline, proportionately to how it was pre 6/23/2015 with the old trait that reduced off-hand recharge and increased off-hand range. Axe Off-Hand was actually viable then.
Skirmishing ~ Trapper’s Expertise and Strider’s Defense need to swap their positions so that condi specs can run both Sharpened Edges and Trapper’s Expertise.
Traps ~ Remove the arming time or significantly boost the DPS of traps. Right now traps are a joke compared to Ele fire rings, Purging flames and all of the other enormous fast casting condi splash AoE available to other classes.
Empathic Bond ~ Change this to: Removes 1 condition every 3 seconds. Here is why: After the DPS creep and condi patch, the current Empathic Bond of removes 3 conditions every 10 seconds is too slow vs. the strength of condi bursting, especially burn stacking. It’s often that a Ranger will die after a condi burst before 10 seconds are up to cleanse his condis. 1 condition every 3 seconds would be a more practical approach at this point, especially vs. burning.
Pets Remastered ~ Pets need a serious overhaul. The only useful pets in spvp are wolf/drakehound and sometimes hyena/spiders. The CCs are critical for success as a Ranger in pvp and not enough pets have CCs. This renders large majority of pets completely useless. Either up the damage of some of the non-CC pets or give them CCs.
~ With the above changes, Ranger could be viable in meta.

+ Spirits need to follow and don’t die on active skills again
+ dagger 4 dodge range need to get increased back to the old traited range again

to some responses:
i made this video because sometimes i get instantly 6 -12 burning stacks while fighting around the ring of fire, by don’t touching the red line.
in my view i’m not crossing the ring of fire,
but get punished by this 6-12 instant burning stacks by not doing a real mistake.
in this video i stack 48 burning stacks by only touching 2 times the ring of fire (i failed),
but the rest of stacks i was just “close” to it.
of course it’s also a problem about the hit box and different character sizes,
but i play a normal sized human/sylvari there.
you can also try to run around a ring of fire and just be close to the red line.
on some unlucky movement (i guess when you don’t run a perfect circle aroudn it)
you can stack verry fast burning, because it counts as running in and out (we are still just near the red line, not crossing or touching it)
edit:
don’t to forget that players sometimes get 6 burning stacks instead of only 3 burning stacks by running out of the ring of fire,
this happens if you don’t cross it just smooth in a direct line forward.
so you will enter again (outside the red line) a area that counts as running throw ring of fire and get 6 instead of only 3 burning stacks…

to play a mesmer you need also really much player skill, every mesmer player says that, so it must be true!

same with d/d ele, this professions are so super weak and need harder buffs in future, so every pve player can instantly go pvp and play them successfully
rangers was allready completly useless for 1 year now, before this patch.
there was just no place for rangergameplay in competitive pvp.
allot good ranger players just left the game in this time, for me that says enough.
with this patch now,
ranger becomes completly useless,
playing as a ranger feels so super weak now, i mean ranger was not good before the patch, but at least you was able to do something, with this patch it feels like rangers just exist to get first targeted and killed fast.
i would say anet should start to think about removing this profession finaly,
so players don’t need to waste time trying to find working builds for this profession any more.
all builds around for rangers are just tryhard builds,
it’s much better to take an other profession and do twice better then you can do with every existing ranger build at the moment.
at least, just look what they did to the ranger profession with this patch.
that’s allot of nerfs and changes make some builds completly no fun to play anymore.
TRAPS: you can’t throw them any more and they need some seconds to be placed on the ground. that means also healing spring need some seconds before you can blast it now, that’s a nerf when you want to leap away and use healing spring fast to blast on the second leap
SPIRITS: they can’t follow you any more, for me that breaks completly the fun to use this (into the ground nerfed) build and makes them also completly useless now.
i still ask myself why peoples was so in hate to this 2 single spirit npcs in pvp.
look on mesmer, there you heave annoying npcs in pvp.
OFF HAND TRAINING: the nice old dagger dodge range and torch flame range just don’t exist in a single trait any more.
CONDI REMOVE WITH EMPATHIC BOND: you can completly forget to use this trait to remove condis at the moment, because your pet just dies ins seconds with this new condi stacking,
for example you heave 2 stacks of burning on yourself and your pet got this 2 stacks of burning also, because of some aoe burning skills,
when the pet starts to remove this 2 stacks of burning from you, then it will heave 4 stacks of burning and some other condis of course, that means your pet dies verry fast
NATURAL VIGOR (50% in the past): im not sure but if im right it’s nerfed again from 25% to 20% vigor regeneration. i never understood this hard endurance nerfs on the ranger profession which is forced to survive by dodging verry well.
i also ask myself, why the hell other professions can dodge allot more times then a ranger can do + other survive mechanics like ports, invulnerable etc.
would be a good idea to buff natural vigor back to the old 50% and i’m sure it would not make rangers to a super strong dodge machine.
there is more points to speak about what is wrong about ranger, because there is 75% working wrong on this profession and it get worse with erver patch, but
of course there is some interesting changes and buffs on ranger aswell
some interesting new traits and shouts are a bit better now.
but every profession got nice changes like this, even more
so i’m pretty sure, ranger will stay the last profession for another 1 year.
And if you are using churning earth against your opponents you are pretty much saying “you are bad”.
In 1v1s I always call it the disrespect churn. If I’m using it against you, its me saying I don’t think you’ve got a brain in there.
or it can also mean your profession heave the match up, doesn’t matter how stupid you play.
