Shield backpiece+ actual shield= a char with 2 shields in his back. Nope, won’t work.

Don’t see why this matters. Shields already cover up most back pieces anyways when they are sheathed..

You make a good point. I agree partially. I just see someone that earns them in game as saving their money and they get more of the satisfaction out of it. If they made a model that allowed you somehow to go back and earn these things (laurels or whatever), I’d be okay with that.

Though if they made them available in Gem Store I wouldn’t really care either. If I earned it in game, good for me, I saved money. If I didn’t, then cool I still get a chance at the aesthetic prize, but theres a price to pay for missing out on its original release.

I hope not, since that would trivialize the time people who actually earned it spent on it.

It was a reward purchasable during the attack on Lion’s Arch.

Got it myself. Would not care if it was put up on the Gem Store or Laurel Merchants. It wasn’t hard to get at all. People need to stop acting like everything you can’t get anymore was as hard as pulling teeth to get in the first place, Geesh!

Didn’t say it was hard. Strawmen don’t fight back, but you gain nothing by being able to best them.

It consumed time and resources. Had I not spent those resources on the Selfless and Thoughtless Potions, I could have spent them on other items offered by the same trader.

By putting it up on the gem shop so that anyone with a few dollars can buy it, then I’d have to question each time they put up a special reward for an event whether it’s worth it to put the time and effort into working for it while forsaking more potentially useful rewards, if I could just potentially drop an hour from a paycheque into the game and buy the same thing later.

Why bother putting in anything for special rewards if you’re just going to offer it for sale later?

I’d be just as annoyed if I farmed out 2,000 geodes for a good set of bug weapon skins, just to find out next month that they put the bug weapon skins on the gem store for a couple hundred gems each. Because while it isn’t hard to get geodes, I could have used those geodes on 100+ lockpicks that would get me ascended materials which are actually useful and potentially get me kites to sell.

Well to be fair, you DO put time and effort into getting your money to buy things off the Gem Store. Its just done in a different format. I see no reason to punish people who are late-adopters of the game or those who may not have been playing during the time of an item’s release.

Me for example, I wasn’t around/on a server capable of doing Tequatl when the event was big. So I never got the Wings of the Sunless… and to be fair, I’d LOVE to buy them in Gem Store or earn them via in game events somehow. So who am I to say other people can’t have something I put my time into (playing the game) in another avenue that they put their time into (working a job/extra hours).

Not Enough Content

Rainin.9812

Other than the most recent update I’ve loved the new content! Not to mention there is a new map, which is really pretty awesome when you get down to it!

My only frustration is that sometimes some of the content feels like repeat. For example, the Norn and Charr convincing for the Summit.. both story chains were nearly identical in the story aspect. Though I was shocked to see just how many enemies the Charr are actually contending with! (ghosts, flame legion and branded)

Otherwise I think they are doing great and at least its new and fresh story all the time. While, I think they do need to work on a somewhat major expansion soon, I still think we are a bit spoiled to be getting as much new content as frequently as we are. Because if you really look back at the past year, there really has not been much down time without SOMETHING going on in the game. (LS, Festivals, Feature Pack releases, etc)

So be patient, the game is gorgeous and there is more to it than is at the surface. Dig in a bit, start a new character and really follow the story. Enjoy the scenery that you so often take for granted when grinding for 80’s or Legendaries or farming or WPing or whatever you do.

Last two posts are epic..

But back to PopeUrban’s point. I agree that festival achievements shouldn’t be available year round or anything like that. But in my opinion festival achievements shouldn’t be where the “Elite Achievement Gamers” get their kicks. Make the ULTRA HARD achievements a part of permanent content so that everyone can try to become a better player to achieve such feats. Make the festivals more fun and care-free with the achievements and such.

I would agree with you also that they have come leaps-and-bounds since releasing South Sun and making a boss (and giving rewards) that only people who got on at a specific time on the weekend could have access to. The one good move they made was giving the rewards at least to people who were there and crashed/disconnected. But all those people that just happened to work, go on vacation, get sick, have soccer games, built a house or picked their butt that weekend missed out. And I could understand why those people would be pretty upset. Glad they haven’t made a mistake like THAT again.

Dragon's Reach Part 2 the mid season finale?

What annoys me most is that we had to hear this from some random article out there. Shouldn’t this have been announced like last week or a week before so we had an idea it was coming? Not to mention I can hardly believe this season is only going to be 8 episodes long.. After how last season literally lasted what felt like 9 months, this would be shockingly short.

Aside from that, I’m okay with a short break (though too long will be kind of buzz-kill). But I would assume this break is so that they can start hashing out Halloween.

I don’t think the people at the Summit are all going to be racial leaders. I mean even in Dragon’s Reach Pt. 1 we learned that the asura are sending some annoying high ranking officila “if” Taimi’s machine works.

Also, maybe this is just a gamer’s dream, but wouldn’t it be awesome if there were some LS content that truly “changed the world.” By this I mean, wouldn’t it be great if something we were playing through now actually changed the beginning of the game for new players/new created characters. Where their new character begins in 1327 AE? I mean there is some worry that people would complain they didn’t get to see the same start to the game as everyone else. But its nearly the same concept as not being able to have the achievements from GW1?

A true living world like this would be something new to gaming! This game is going to be severely limited in its ability to provide a “living, breathing and progressing” world if they have to constantly stay confined to the beginning of 5 races of personal story. Being unable to kill off/change things about the world because when you start the game these things aren’t the case. I think they are already showing signs of doing this by allowing new LS content to “assume” you’ve kill Zhaitan.

My hope is they are willing to change the game in ways where they aren’t afraid to alter it and can truly have the artistic liberty to make it an actual LIVING world.

There has been plenty that’s been RNG that’s only been available via the LS. Back item skins and minies from chests like in the Tower of Nightmares. So done be too shocked if they vanish.

Which is why I’m saying that shouldn’t happen. To be honest though, I don’t 100% care about mini’s.. Skins and stuff are what I am concerned about.

My complaint? Accountbound.

I’ve gotten five so far and I’d really rather be able to give them away to people that has bad RNG luck. (Give, not sell.)

I also agree with this. The only reasoning I see for making a lot of rare things account bound is to prevent them hitting open market and becoming an essential money-maker.

Rainin.9812

I fall right on the fence on this topic. As long as this is permanent content and we can try for as long as we’d like to get the fossils —> skins then I am okay with it being a RNG drop and working hard/getting lucky.

However, if the chests/keys are going to disappear once the season is over or whenever, then I think its a little ridiculous to make something only possible to get through RNG.

But I would warn all that want them to be tradable that if they really are decently hard to come by you are going to have to pay a cost to get them.

My final argument is this, if an item is only available in game and only by RNG then it should be permanent. If it is only or also available on gem store (and probably available again later) then it can be temporary and RNG.

RNG is VERY necessary. If everything is just handed and/or sold to us easily then what is the satisfaction in EVER getting something super rare or nice? :\

Achievements only attainable by a small percentage of players are annoying.. Just my honest opinion. You are discouraging players who may have a hard time with some stuff skill wise, but still try hard to complete all event achievements. Go try to solo Arah or take a Fort in WvW by yourself. You may like beating your head against a wall, but not everyone does.

Let’s rename the whole system “handouts” then. In fact, why bother requiring anyone to do anything to get them at all? Just fill in the blanks of the character sheet when you log in. Actually, that would exclude people on vacations. Just automatically attribute them to accounts! But then what about people who don’t have accounts yet? Actually, we’d better just give them credit when they establish the account too.

In fact, why is there a losing team in sPvP? Why are there TWO losing teams in WvW? We should probably change those systems too, so that the rewards are fair for everyone that tried.

You see what I’m getting at?

Extraordinary effort or skill should absolutely rewarded with extraordinary rewards. That content should exist, and certain rewards should absolutely be reserved for those who go above and beyond to get them. That’s a large part of the problem with GW2. It does a great job of adding inclusive content, but it doesn’t implement any sort of enhanced risk/reward mechanics to give people any reason to attempt to improve.

“Trying” should never be grounds for completely optional and supposedly “elite skill based” content. Just because it’s PvE doesn’t automatically entitle every single player to every single reward. Just as PvP, there should be variant levels of challenge with corresponding levels of reward. Doing well should confer greater rewards.

The achievements are permanent now, so there’s no applicable excuse outside player ability, which can be practiced and improved upon, for those who want an achievement to not, uh, achieve that goal.

The problem is with players that feel they deserve every achievement, and drop, and rare thing in the game simply because they tried to get it. Achievements are not and never should have been things people deserve but rather things people have to make a concerted effort to earn

I agree somewhat with what you are saying. I think there are already a lot of built in challenges that not everyone can complete (legendaries, ascended gear, fractal rewards, etc).

I guess I was more arguing this point about the achievements that used to be available for only a limited time (which is still going to be a problem with holiday event releases). For example, I am a player that likes completing all content made available (which includes all the achievements). When the first Halloween event was released a big piece of the achievements was the Tower of Madness JP. After trying it multiple times and completing all the other achievements I went full force at it. I spent about 22 hours (spread out over a few days) trying to complete it and only got as far as 75% up. That JP is no longer available, the reward at the top isn’t either and probably never will be again.

This is where our points differ. I would be okay with super hard achievements if the opportunity to achieve them was not placed within a limited time. Some people may not be able to complete something in a given amount of time, but still want to try and put the effort toward doing it.. Why punish those people?

I would be okay with the extra hard challenges being placed within this new system where you can try to achieve them as long as you want. I guess my point was coming more from how previous releases were and for holiday content that isn’t always available. But still I don’t think that mass majority of players should have to beat their heads against walls for hours and hours just because they like completing things in their entirety.

As someone said already, I think the point was to make you focus on story the first time through and then achievements the second time. Not to mention, getting you to do the content 2-3 times (or more) also nearly doubles or triples (or more) the life of the content. This makes a release relevant for longer and keeps people people the game for longer too.

I think people are way too nit-picky about what NPC’s say and what the zergs are like and honestly about content releases in general. I swear, they could release new content every other day and you’d still complain. At least they do SOMETHING to keep the game fresh and going forward so you don’t get bored and just log out.. If you can’t imagine your way past an NPC referring to players in the singular or plural and that seriously poses such a problem that you have to complain about it.. Then I worry about you ever finding any kind of satisfaction in gaming or in life for that matter.

it’s funny to call players who want to save time (and don’t have much to begin with) lazy……

I’m talking about players that don’t want to run anywhere and complain profusely about contested waypoints (running an extra minute from here to there). I’m also talking about people who rely on WP’s to champ train or event train or quick-farm nodes or spam-rush world bosses. Basically, the extremes. Yes, I find most of the people who do these things to be “lazy”. They want, quick loot or quick levels or quick achievements. Then they complain that there is nothing to do..

I use WP’s too and like their convenience. I also don’t have a ton of time to play this game anymore either as I work multiple jobs, but I would enjoy there being a bit more exploration in such a beautiful game. Instead of mindlessly grinding away at map completions and world bosses and champ trains. Sorry, but I don’t think thats the way any game was meant to be played.

That being said, I don’t think that all WP’s should be removed and we should have to run everywhere all the time. If someone wants to emerge themselves in the game that much then they could simply not use WP’s and run everywhere. Problem solved. But I don’t think that removing a good portion of them is a totally bad idea. It would add more to the game play experience and enjoyment of scenery built in. But that’s also just my opinion.

I dunno. Sometimes it seems a bit petty to me that people won’t run dungeons with sub-80’s or that they request certain classes, when I’ve seen dungeons completed easily with 4-5 of the same class built a few different ways (especially SE). There’s a delicate balance and fine line when implementing something like this. For sub-80/new players it can make dungeoning in the game much harder and sometimes unbearable.

I could understand this more for a dungeon like Arah where a couple of its paths are extremely fickle on how to complete them in a reasonable amount of time. But for sub-80 dungeons, it seems a bit extreme.

I say remove all the waypoints, and if your character dies then he can’t resurect anymore and you’ll have to make a new character from scratch. Maybe get your new characater and bury your old one. And get a hidden achiev for doing that.

I really hope this is sarcasm, because I laughed really hard believing it was. I think that the “dying” process in GW2 should be a should definitely be a little bit more of an inconvenience.

They got rid of WP rushing in dungeons and it made the game harder (but better) in my opinion. Maybe you should have to restart farther away from where you were, maybe this would encourage people to build sustainable builds and not want to die, instead of having a bunch of people running around with zerker builds, dying and just quickly WP’ing back.

So it begs the question, are the elf-substitutes writer fangasms, or is there some long-range sinister plan, as curious speculation suggests?

The Pale Tree is actually a terrorist cell and pumping out bad Sylvari left and right. The new enemy becomes the Pale Tree and all Sylvari (including player characters) are put into prison camps until the issue is resolved in Season 3 Living Story.

That aside, I agree that Sylvari enemies are getting a little old/bland.

Why is there no Walk Through on how to defeat this Aerin, I am getting sick and tired of fighting these vines and dying all the time. Why is there no walk through on this?

Too many flaws in this part of the story I am avoiding it until it is fixed and there is a Walk Through in Wiki but I don’t plan on holding my breath to see if it gets down.

Uhhhhhhhhh

Walkthrough:

When the fight starts ignore all tendrils/mobs on the ground floor. Run up a ramp on the far side of the room and jump across to Aerin on the center platform. Hit him with melee until he jumps away, then dodge bombs while he is on another platform (if you are motivated, use your ranged weapon to hit him from afar while you avoid bombs). Once he jumps back to center again melee him. At intervals (75%, 50% and 25% HP) he will put up a shield which you will break by simply grabbing a Sun Crystal (the yellow one) and use the 2 skill directly at his shield. The shield will break and you continue to do damage until he’s dead.

Rinse and repeat all steps above each time he either 1) jumps to a different platform and 2) sheilds up.

To call this the hardest boss fight to date is very extreme… You don’t even have to compete with ridiculous adds.. If you really want to see the hardest boss fight try doing Arah P4 Priestess of Dwayna fight. If you want to quit the game on this fight you will want to destroy your computer too after the Dwayna fight……..

The new gem store item in question, the Captain’s Airship Pass (permanent one, sold for 1,000Gems) promises “a lifetime of luxury” in the announcement post about this item here on the website. The one I am most concerned about (and why I bought the pass) was this one: “Quick Access to All Cities.”

So in short, if stuff was moved around again, would the pass still hold up to all its promises?

So you made WvW maps part of World Map Completion? This is oxymoronic. Players should also not be punished or unable to experience and view the same content as everyone else because they play on a different server..

How free server xfers ruined WvW for some

in WvW

So this is definitely going to come across as a rant, but playing on Henge of Denravi and going through the “fall from grace” in the WvW standings has left me annoyed and appalled.

To put it simply: free transfers lasted too long. Masses left HoD for Jade Quarry and then in the weeks following that with HoD gradual decline, the majority of the competitive WvW’ers we had left also jumped ship. Now we get pummeled every week and staying loyal to a server for this long has proven to be a grave mistake as it pertains to actually enjoying the WvW part of the game.

Some people might say the solution is simple, to leave just like the rest. Which at this point I might consider due to the absolute downer it is to even attempt WvW anymore against dominators like Sorrow’s Furnace.. but the guild we built up before the mass abandonment has a lot of perks and etc, that are non-transferable. So at this point its a catch 22 to start over.

I guess I don’t expect any apology or anything, but ANet preaches that they care what the customers think.. so there it is. I’m not sure if this happened to any other servers, but it would be nice if some other HoD people or from other servers stood up and spoke out about this as well.
