Allow us to add the Bitterfrost Vantage Point and Noran’s Safe Room Pass to the Living World Portal Tome. I’m aware that it doesn’t quite fit the tome’s flavor text, but it would be awfully convenient since they are basically portal scrolls to Bitterfrost Frontier and Lake Doric but they’re still filling up my shared slots.

FIXED: Can't select characters at char screen

in Account & Technical Support

Ravenor.3612

I’m having the same issue.

I select a character and it hangs up without going to the loading screen. After somewhere between 30 seconds and 2 minutes, it gives me an error with Code=42:4:11:143:101. When I click OK, the game closes and tries to restart.

I was already in-game and trying to switch between characters when it first happened about 10 minutes ago.

Chuka & Champawat's footprint effects

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ravenor.3612

Ravenor.3612

Hiya Anet!

I completed Chuka and Champawat yesterday. I really like it, but the footprints disappear way too quickly. They start decaying immediately after generation and disappear completely in about ~1 second. By comparison, Twilight and Juggernaut (my other legendaries) have footprints that fully decay over about ~3 seconds, making them much more noticeable.

Are there any plans to increase the amount of time the C&C footprints survive? They’re one of the cooler effects IMO.

Party Search Category Update

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ravenor.3612

Ravenor.3612

Hi Anet!

Apologies if this has been suggested already – forum search seems to be broken for me right now.

I was wondering if there are any plans on updating the Party Search UI. Basically all the HoT content (raids, metas, and everything) is getting thrown into Open World Content, causing that category to become very hard to search through. Raids made it much worse, sadly, and random other content gets thrown in frequently (Fractals is a common one). That last one is unavoidable, but it doesn’t help the general lack of organization in the Open World Content category right now.

I suggest the following:

Rename the Living World category to Open World Content, with two subcategories:
Central Tyria
Magus Falls
(you can also add other regions as they are added)

Adding a dedicated Raid category, similar to Fractals of the Mists and Dungeons.

Renaming the Personal Story category to Story Missions, with three subcategories:
Personal Story <— everything from the main Zhaitan story
Living World <— the Living World Season content
Heart of Thorns <— HoT story content

In any case, I think this would be a huge help for a lot of players.

Secure Warmaster Jofast's Camp spawn rate

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Ravenor.3612

Ravenor.3612

This issue has been happening for a while. When there are a lot of players around, the scaling on Jofast’s camp seems to break, causing the event a good 5-10 minutes longer than normal to finish because people are waiting around for spawns.

Basically, the number of enemies that need to be killed seems to scale correctly, but the spawn rate remains very low, spawning only 1-2 enemies every 20-30 seconds at times. The zerg blows these enemies up in a few seconds and then has to idle for the next spawn. I’m literally taking the time to write this now as I wait for the zerg to clear the event.

I know it’s relatively low priority compared to some of the more serious HoT bugs, but could someone look into this when they have a chance?

14. Sign Cutting.

Can’t continue forward as this track is unresponsive.

For the record, this issue can happen on any of the markers. After quitting/restarting the episode, it’s happened on the 4th, 3rd and 1st marker for me.

Additionally, even though the poison requirement was removed on the Hero panel, a lot of people who were already at that step still have it marked as the next step in the story. A workaround is to quit the episode, restart the episode and either relog or go to/return from another area, which wouldn’t be so bad but for the unresponsive marker bug.

Identical Book Ascended Back Item Skins

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ravenor.3612

Ravenor.3612

The only collection I’m aware that requires one is the Style Guide achievement (Koss on Koss), but even so collections often operate off of individual items that aren’t in the wardrobe at all so if there was a collection that required multiple ascended books it could probably be modified.

Actually, it was completing that achievement that made me think about this, since we’re able to use There with Yakkington: A Traveler’s Tale since it shares the “skin” with Koss on Koss, but none of the other identical books do.

Regardless, either way is totally acceptable to me, I would just like to see a change. The skins are really lackluster compared to other back skins now. I remember when they came out they were really cool since they were among the very first first visual back skins in the game (after the Mad Memories books and alongside the Fractal Capacitor), but now they pale in comparison to all the new ones with their animations and particle effects.

Identical Book Ascended Back Item Skins

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ravenor.3612

Ravenor.3612

Hello Anet!

I tried the search function and came up negative so I don’t know if this has been asked already.

Currently, all of the “original” Ascended back items (books and quivers) seem to have the same models, one for quivers and one for books. All the quivers use and will unlock the same wardrobe entry (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Quiver), but several of the books (Koss on Koss, Book of Secrets, etc.) have their own spot in the wardrobe despite looking exactly like each of the others.

Would it be possible to either get all 5 or so book items united in the wardrobe under a generic term (e.g., “Tome”)? Or, unique skins for each book and quiver? The latter option would probably cause some headache for us collectors, but I really don’t want to unlock 5 very expensive wardrobe skins that all look identical.

Windows 10 Compatible?

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: Ravenor.3612

Ravenor.3612

For future games that support Dx12 is one reason. Not one for this game, unless there is a major surprised with the expansion.

Yes and after 10 they will try some subscription BS. That’s going to go over like a lead balloon for the consumer. Brings the whole concept of the Micro$oft tax to it’s final evolutionary form.

Could you provide a link from MS that they are moving to a subscription model?
I believe that it is an unsubstantiated rumor being circulated.

I’d like to see this too. If it’s true I’m staying with Win 7.

I opted for the free upgrade myself. If we don’t hear anything official from the Devs by the time the update is live, I can easily opt out of the free upgrade and stay where I am. Hoping a dev can shed some light on this.

http://www.forbes.com/sites/gordonkelly/2015/05/08/microsoft-windows-10-last-windows/ <— Not a Microsoft link because they’ve only hinted here and there about a possible subscription model.

I want to shed some light and give context on what is said in this article, since again, it isn’t explicitly stated that they’re moving to subscription.

Anyone familiar with Adobe products (Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.) knows that a while back Adobe took away the up-front cost and put in a subscription fee for the latest version. The version you are subscribed to is constantly upgraded, so you always have the latest version. The subscription fee for the full Creative Suite adds up to about a new Suite every few years, which is roughly where they were previously with their release frequency, the only difference being that you’re paying for it over time and get new features as they’re ready instead of all in one go. In the end, Adobe makes more money because not everyone upgrades immediately.

Other software companies like Autodesk (maker of a lot of 3d development software) have introduced subscriptions as well. In Autodesk’s case, a full copy of Maya in the pre-subscription days could run $5,000+ (not a typo) and upgrade yearly, so this is a welcome change for a lot of people, even at subscription prices of $200 – $300 a month.

What seems likely is that Microsoft is looking at doing something similar with Windows: free to download and install (see link at the end), but a small monthly subscription that adds up to basically upgrading to the “next version” of Windows as soon as it comes out, given their frequency of release (in reality, it would be one streamlined, constantly evolving OS, as opposed to different versions).

Of course, this is still more than a year off in the future and since nothing’s been officially announced yet, things can change. Whether or not I get Windows 10 will depend entirely on two factors: 1) the subscription price over 3 years, which is about what their release frequency has been for Windows 7 (2009) and Windows 8 (2012), and 2) whether or not it allows me to install on multiple machines with a single subscription. I have a desktop and laptop and possibly a tablet in the future, and I won’t pay three times just so I can use them all.

EDIT: Ho hum. It seems MS has released pricing after all. Yesterday, even. http://www.pcworld.com/article/2929385/microsoft-releases-official-retail-pricing-for-windows-10.html

Is there any specific reason for this, or was it simply overlooked? Is there any ETA to adding one?

$12.50 Charge for Convenience of Lions Arch

in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

Posted by: Ravenor.3612

Ravenor.3612

I don’t really blame or resent Anet for a bit of a cash grab, and honestly they could always do much worse. Lion’s Arch (or a free equivalent city, depending on what they want to do) will come back once this story wraps up.

I recall reading that in order to churn out these Living World releases every two weeks that Anet has four full development teams working on 2 month cycles. FOUR. The vast majority of MMOs can only dream of that, and definitely only the top few MMOs at any given time can actually have it… WoW, LoL (yes they count) and so forth. Don’t cry and complain if it looks like they are trying to get a little extra cash. They’re a business, as is NCSoft above them. They have bottom lines and revenue goals and massive overhead on top of that to maintain this level of production quality and release frequency. Their goal of player enjoyment, in the end, is to make money, and it takes a lot of money to keep the GW2 boat afloat. Be very happy that they recognize that player enjoyment is an integral part of their cash-earning strategy. I’m happy to drop a few dollars here and there to get a nice item that I will actually use. I managed to get a Royal Terrace pass as a drop during the Jubilee and you bet I used the hell out of it for the 2 weeks I had it. I know that I’ll use this one too.

Just be happy that you’re getting content that you don’t actually need to pay for, that the game isn’t P2W, and the (slight) convenience that you do need to pay for is entirely optional and not even remotely necessary to progress your game.

Warrior or necromancer for wvw?

in WvW

Ravenor.3612

6) Loot: Necro far and away wins this, over every class. You’ll tag everything. It’s not uncommon for me to get 25+ loot bags in a large engagement (probably well over 30). My warrior would probably get 10-15 in that same engagement.

Nothing beat a guardian’s #1 staff in that.

Btw, roll a warrior. All the arguments in this post about why choose a warrior over necro are true. I have both.

Forgot guardian staff, but they’re the only ones that can contend.

Warrior or necromancer for wvw?

in WvW

Posted by: Ravenor.3612

Ravenor.3612

I play both fairly extensively in WvW and both are excellent classes that are in high demand. I’ll assume you want to play a hammer warrior, probably the most useful for zerging. Here is my breakdown:

1) Ease of play: Warriors win out slightly because Necros have to think more about when they use their Soul Shroud and Elite skill (normally plague but sometimes Lich Form) for maximum effectiveness/survival. Warriors just have to F1 at the start of the fight, and maybe use Battle Standard to revive a keep lord. Plague and Battle Standard are two of the best elites in the game for WvW, for completely different reasons.

2) Mobility: Both classes can maintain permanent swiftness. Necros with Warhorn and Spectral Walk, or Warriors with banners or Warhorn/Signet of Rage. Warriors win out because they have more movement/leap-style skills (GS 3/5, Sword 2), and underwater Spear 5 will get you places really fast.

3) Survivability: In terms of base stats, warriors are more survivable. However, Necromancers have Soul Shroud and Plague, and steal health with every hit. I would say a well-played Necro is more survivable than a warrior, but a poorly played Necro is less.

4) Group Utility: Warriors focus more on stuns and condition removal in a zerg. Necromancers focus more on damage and conditions/boon stripping. Both have excellent group ability. I would rate them tied in this category. Battle Standard, the preferred Warrior elite, is invaluable for defense as it can instantly revive a keep lord (combine with stability and Endure Pain to ensure a successful cast). Plague on the other hand can blind a LOT of enemy players (5 a second for 20 seconds, plus poison), providing huge damage mitigation. The choice is yours.

5) Solo Utility: Both can clear camps solo. Warriors might be faster with the right build. I’ve had better luck with a Necro due to increased survivability. Some Warrior builds (mostly those built for zerging/group play) might have trouble clearing solo due to lack of damage, while Necros can clear with full Knight’s/Cavalier’s.

6) Loot: Necro far and away wins this, over every class. You’ll tag everything. It’s not uncommon for me to get 25+ loot bags in a large engagement (probably well over 30). My warrior would probably get 10-15 in that same engagement.

Night capping - final solution

in WvW

Posted by: Ravenor.3612

Ravenor.3612

ANet won’t (and shouldn’t) EVER punish people for where they live, the hours they work, go to school, etc. Aside from being counter to some of their core design philosophy, it would drive players away from this game. I for one would like to see the servers keep running.

I’m saying this as a west-coast NA player, the very kind that frequently gets nightcapped by OCX, SEA and EU coverage, and someone who spends over 50% of his play time in WvW. I’m no stranger to the arguments and frustrations that spawned this thread. Here are my two cents:

It is a game. Deal with it. Fair to you is not fair to them, but allowing everyone to play when and how they want is fair to everyone.

If you really don’t like the nightcapping, get a job that lets you play at 3AM and take care of it yourself. Don’t come here to cry.

The adds in Orr events are off the charts

in Dynamic Events

Posted by: Ravenor.3612

Ravenor.3612

Yes this is ridiculous. I play a very tanky (All PVT/Knight’s) warrior/full Soldier’s Runes with very close to 30k HP and 50% damage reduction from toughness. It takes me all of about 15 seconds to die in these because I literally have upwards of 10 mobs all hit me in the same second. I get immobilized by veteran spider hatchlings and pulled by the risen spiders. If I’m lucky, I’ll get away with half health, no cleanses/stability left and no endurance left, at which point I am promptly pulled back in and killed.

These veteran spider hatchlings are completely off the charts. They and the champion spider that spawns them persist upwards of 5 minutes after the Shelter’s Gate event ends.

Plus, on multiple occasions Keeper Jonez Deadrun has been one-shotted by monsters who spawn on top of him during the final Grenth event (the spawn on him happens two or three times during that event, and previously was manageable as long as people were aware of it). The monsters aren’t even visible due to culling but they one-shot him.

I understand perfectly that you guys don’t want players to just be able to constantly and mercilessly farm these events. Previously, the enormous numbers of easy-to-kill trash mobs with good loot that only scaled higher with more players was a farmer’s dream. Even when champions started spawning it wasn’t bad. This, though, is completely nuts. Between this and the Arrow Cart buffs in WvW I am really starting to question the quality of your balance assessments. It feels like this was done without forethought or enough testing.

We all really want a response to this. This is not a case of the few players who were abusing these events complaining. This update has stacked the balance so far that it actually makes the game less fun, and hurts one of the (very) few worthwhile things to do in this game’s PvE endgame.

AOE limit 5 targets favours zerging

in WvW

Posted by: Ravenor.3612

Ravenor.3612

I feel a higher AoE cap (10 or 15) would be good. The issue is that in cases of 50 vs. 5 with no AoE cap, those 5 could conceivably wipe the 50 assuming they were in a choke point (like the SMC lord’s room or hills) and had enough damage in their builds. No AoE cap means warriors would be able to stun 20+ people with a single Earthshaker. Now multiply that by at least 5, which is the normal minimum number my guild runs with. It would become very OP very quickly. Imagine a thief being able to skull fear an entire 80 man zerg from stealth over a cliff. Imagine that same thief stealthing 80 people for 12 seconds with Shadow Refuge.

At the moment it’s too easy for enough players to negate AoE through sheer numbers, but there is a tightrope of balance in that a small group should not be able to outright destroy a larger group.

Another modification to the cap: could we have it so that neutral targets (non-red) don’t count towards the AoE cap? In other words, siege, gates, white animals and yellow targets (until they turn red) should not take up that precious spot, as each one negates 20% of your AoE for that pulse.

Leg Specialist + Arrow Cart = Enemy lockdown

in WvW

Posted by: Ravenor.3612

Ravenor.3612

We are aware of this little strategy and have our top minds hammering out possible solutions.

Let me ask you something: why take away something that gives defenders a chance to hold a location, just because a few people cried over it? It seems pointless. You might as well remove traits altogether, and have only 1 attack, that way everyone quits crying… :|

-Sir Tryce

P.S. Devon, can you give me a VALID reason to get rid of something like this? I’d appreciate it.

Where, exactly, does that quote say that they’re removing it?
It’s quite possible that they are working on making it available to every AC to some degree (maybe 3 pulses instead of 5 or something) instead of only being available to one class.

They will likely tweak it a little bit so as to not completely remove or change the trait and its effects, but rather bring this into balance with other traits that affect siege. A likely outcome would be an internal CD long enough to balance the AC issue without affecting any of the warrior’s other abilities that cripple. In all likelihood perma-immobilize will still be possible, but will require much greater numbers (i.e. 6 or 7 ACs as opposed to 2 or 3).

As for a valid reason, that’s been stated everywhere in this thread. Immobilize is a very powerful condition (definitely more powerful than the other traits that affect siege) and this allows it to be applied in massive quantities for very little cost. While it is not without counters, it allows a very small number of players to overcome or stall a very large number of players not through skill, for a length of time that should not be possible.

WXP Booster?

Posted by: Ravenor.3612

I think a WXP booster would be an excellent addition to the game, in the same vein as a PvP Glory booster, Gold Booster, Karma Booster, etc. Honestly I was a little surprised nothing like this was added to the cash shop in the March 26th update.

On the same point, the WvW community is very overlooked in terms of cash shop support. Sure, we have the finisher consumables, but honestly not many people (at least in higher tiers and in hardcore WvW guilds) are going to stop for 3 seconds just to drop a cow on someone else. For example, a “Bag of Siege Plans” that gives 3 pieces of siege that require less supply to build.

Lots of TL;DR in this thread so sorry if this has been posted. I’ll keep it as short and sweet as I can:

In their whole design manifesto for the game, Anet has said they want to remove barriers preventing players from playing together. Not splitting loot and rewards, eliminating the concept of kill-stealing, the downed system, farming nodes instanced for each player, etc. The reward system was designed from the ground up to reward players playing alongside each other. While I do not like the lack of rewards for alternate playstyles in WvW (especially small groups), the fact that zergs are more profitable is a consequence of the core game philosophy and is not likely to change.

Ravenor.3612

Please stop with these “its a skin, you dont have to get it” posts, because they are the pinnacle of idiotism.
Obviously everyone wants to get items that are ingame and are a part of the price we payed for the game, and are a part of everyones goals in the endgame.

Everyone should have the same chance of getting it, and atm that is not the case. Get lucky – get legendary / be unlucky – dont have a legendary.

Besides, there are an abundance of legendarys already existing, which should in term make them easier and easier to obtain?!
So, i dont know why not implement a system for legendarys that would make them easier to obtain the longer the game exists. Now its basically harder to get it, than it was in the first months of the game.

Please, no. Read the definition of legendary. It means mythical, rumored, the stuff of legends. They are a long term goal and many players work towards them for months. They are not a goal for casual players to expect to earn unless they work towards them for a long, long time.

You bought the game; you are therefore entitled to work towards a legendary like everyone else. You are not guaranteed to get one, though you will if you are lucky or if you work hard enough. The instant you make something easier to get, you devalue it for everyone. I’m not just talking about in-game gold – the actual satisfaction you get from earning it decreases.

While I’m on the subject of luck, keep in mind that MMO’s are essentially a luck-based genre. Rare drops that you need to sell on the TP, for example, are due to luck. Even crafting is through luck since you need fine mats to drop. The Mystic Forge is all luck. Running dungeons is like learning a dance; there are definite steps involved, but at the end, your rewards are random. There is relatively little skill in any of this until you get to the TP players. The instant you take that random chance out, and everyone can get something guaranteed, it becomes worthless.

Apparently, that is what is going to happen anyway with the scavenger hunt. I dearly hope that the scavenger hunt patch introduces a whole new set of legendaries with their own precursors.

It’s broken, no idea why anyone would argue against that. Stun locks are always bad for PvP game play. This is basically the same thing except it immobilizes. Those kind of mechanics make players leave PvP games.

If you can’t kill enemies without broken abilities you shouldn’t PvP and should definitely not come to the forums and defend something that is so stupidly broken.

I’m sorry but your generalization of the discussion is off. The fact that warriors on arrow carts can hold a assault on a keep or tower of long periods time is just imo. Why should it be easy for hordes of people to take a defended keep easily. The players defending should have the tactical advantage with defensive siege and choke points into the lord room. The arrow carts are powerful towards Rams and players trying to PvDoor there way in. The counter is to build catas or trebs out of arrow cart range and take doors or walls down. If the arrow carts are holding you from entering through a choke point, regroup and attack a different point.

Most choke points can be held with out a single arrow cart. It happens all the time…I see it first hand anytime JQ or SoR are attacking a BG keep I’m helping defend. I would bet JQ and SoR could say the same vs us.

Carts already filled all these niches without being able to immobilize indefinitely. They were fine as they were.

Pinko actually hit the balance issue on the head: for 12 silver (or 12 badges) and 60 supply two coordinated warriors can hold up to 50 people in the same spot indefinitely, assuming no condition removal is used (which would not be terribly uncommon for those who aren’t hardcore about wvw). Without that trait, they can maybe delay for 10 seconds while the enemy hobbles through. Because of the skewed balance (very little cost to very high reward), this is inherently a balance issue, not a l2play issue or a strat issue (though those certainly play into it somewhat).

Quickest solution IMO is to change how the trait operates with siege so it either does not immobilize at all or has a reduced duration (.5 or .25 seconds). IMO the trait as it is without siege is fine.

Walls/gates not down yet and carts hitting you? Don’t stand so close.

2 warriors holding a choke point against 50? If you got 50 people and none of them have the skills or guts to push through (hint: 2 warriors could counter this with endure pain and shield #5, then hammer-slam the 2 enemy warriors off their carts, or 2 elementalists with mistform>lightning flash>earthquake, etc.) the fault lies with your team, not the arrow carts.

Not saying it’s beyond counters or unbeatable. Just saying it’s overpowered and those 2 warriors should not be able to hold 50 people up for that amount of time.

That said, it could probably use a duration cap or something. Put a 2-3 sec cooldown on leg specialist procs and that should solve it. Several warriors could still chain it, but it wouldn’t be nearly as easy to stack it to OP levels or whatever.

Pushing a warrior off the cart does nothing since predominantly they’re just waiting for cooldowns and I’m pretty sure the cart doesn’t stop firing if the skill has already been used. The person who pushed through will be immediately pooped on and business will resume as usual. Endure pain also doesn’t protect against immobilize.

Finally our condition removers (null field mesmers, shout warriors) go up there. We killed them, but it took a ridiculous amount of time for that to happen. Way too much influence for 3 people to have.

Add in engineers with Super Elixir and have everyone projectile finish (or whirl) thru it. Engineer with Kit Refinement on Elixir Gun and a Ranger shooting thru the field with Quickness, even better.

Your suggestion is to have the entire zerg be balled up into the size of a super elixir? Because I don’t see how they’re going to cure their immobilized if they aren’t already in that ball. And if they do, it’ll just be applied again in a second or two.

I think he was just adding in his bit to the condition removal. NERF is a Fort Aspenwood guild and he’s been in the fight with us pretty often, he may have been one of the ones that got up there yesterday.

I think you’re being picky about numbers. I don’t think the goal should be that 5 people can take on “200”, and even if it is, that’s not the most common use case here. As the RET guy pointed out, zerg v zerg is all about mobility. Put one or two warriors on arrow carts and suddenly one zerg has no mobility and they’re all dead. You can theorycraft about counters all you want, but I think you should experience it before making a judgment call on its brokenness.

Glad someone sees my point.

We were defending FA Garrison yesterday against War Machine. They had broken into the lords room and were wreaking havoc and it took us and at least one other guild to break them and push them out. I was in a squad so I couldn’t see which other commanders were there, but I recognized the tags.

Meanwhile, three of their warriors were on top of the dome with arrow carts spamming immobilize onto the stairs and into the lords room. It completely changed the dynamic of the battle. Normally we can go toe-to-toe with WM pretty evenly with the commanders we had, but we literally had to overwhelm them to stand a chance as they literally had dozens of us trapped on the stairs trying to get up there. Finally our condition removers (null field mesmers, shout warriors) go up there. We killed them, but it took a ridiculous amount of time for that to happen. Way too much influence for 3 people to have.

While many of the other traits that deal with on-hit effects may be kinda nasty, this one really takes the cake. Zergs rely heavily on their mobility; it’s how they avoid getting AoE bombed and wiped. Here is a pulsing AoE immobilize that is excessively easy to coordinate (only needs 2 or 3 buddies in VoIP, doesn’t even need a full guild or actual group), has a huge range and affected area, that can literally hold down a full zerg and pin them helplessly in AoE damage and 5+ stacks of bleeds. Even if some people are able to avoid/dodge/cure themselves out of it, it’s still going to hold up maybe least half of that fighting force. With 2 people. And they can just continue to rain on them until they die. Superior siege would do it even better, and no, the answer isn’t “works as intended.”

Under no other circumstance am I aware of two people not only holding up a huge zerg, but being able to outright wipe them. It literally takes a minute for two people to set up two arrow carts and start firing.

NONE of the other traits can do that.

The Living Story - far too vague.

My main problem with the story in Flame & Frost is the inconsequential nature of the threat, as has been stated many times in this thread.

Norn and Charr routinely thrash dredge and flame legion. They’re by far the most physically powerful, combat-oriented races in the story, and in the case of the Charr, also the most technologically advanced. I’m assuming every Charr has had some level of military training, and Norn are consummate hunters.

There is no reason these cultures should be steamrolled like this without it being huge and obvious/world-changing. A single dredge fort and some portals are nothing that hasn’t been seen before, and this detracts greatly from the believability of the event.

Granted, there probably is something yet to be seen, however at these stages I’m unimpressed. When it was first announced, I had hoped this might be the first foray towards Jormag. Hopefully it is, though Icebrood have yet to appear. We shall see.

I don’t see why those country’s opinions have to factor into the decision either. What is so hard about saying, “It is not your country. It is not that other person’s country. It is Cantha, and it is a made-up country in a fantasy universe.”??

Really. Get over it.

I was just thinking this.

I live in America and am German and British by descent (well, many many generations have passed since my family lived in Europe, but you get my meaning). Currently, the overall human aesthetic is “European,” meaning I have to watch my German and British castles get mixed with French, Italian, and Arabic influences? Unacceptable! I won’t have it! You have to change the game! I have to see NPCs named Doern Velazquez, a mix of Spanish and German?! Heresy!

…I’m kidding of course. I don’t give two kittens what they do to my ancestral cultures, even though they have butchered each other for most of human history. The thought that these people don’t want to be associated with each other even in fiction does not bode well for world peace.

EDIT: I see the person two posts above me touched on my very point. Well played, tunnel vision.

Skill vs Gear

in WvW

Ravenor.3612

How do you know they have exotics? With reskinning and transmutes I have no idea what people are wearing us they link it.

Honestly, it’s easiest and best just to assume that every level 80 player you come across is in full exotics, hence why it is best to be in full exotics. That way you know the worst case scenario is being on an even playing field stat-wise.

Another thing to consider in skill vs. gear is that not all classes and builds are ideal for 1v1, where individual skill has the most influence. D/D thieves will always excel in 1v1 fights whereas, for example, a shout warrior excels in group fights with heals and buffs. If they meet in a 1v1 fight then the thief will have the advantage by default. In a group fight the warrior will provide the greater advantage to his team.

Also in large group fights (zerg vs. zerg) skill becomes less a factor and gear, discipline and organization become key. Ten mediocre players in full exotics closely following a commander who knows what he’s doing will more often than not win against a less organized/less geared force of the same size, no matter how high the individual skill of the players involved. Skill certainly accounts for something in this scenario, but mostly for the commanders (assuming the ones following him are disciplined enough to do exactly as he says).

Easy: hit them with an immobilize after they go down but before they use mist form. They’ll enter mist form but be stuck there until the immob runs out. (easiest if you just pile on all your immobs once they go down).

Either way, I agree that it’s quite broken compared to the others since this seems to be the only way to deal with it. Would fear maybe work?

Whether or not EU servers have a higher standard of play is irrelevant. If that’s what you want, go ahead and make your own recruitment thread.

We have forged FA into an incredible community that has shown both top-class abilities on the field and a welcoming, collaborative attitude. We are team-builders. Most of our guilds have been here since launch and the ones that have arrived since (especially those from the IoJ exodus) have been welcomed with open arms and much gratitude.

Any guild looking for a transfer should really look at FA as a potential new home, especially if you are in the time slots we need. Feel free to ask any of the FA players in this thread, or better yet register at www.fort-aspenwood.com to get to know us and better inform your decision.
