Nobody would take that… I mean who goes 30 in fire? Also the traits in earth are too lackluster to warrant going all the way to grandmaster.
The water one is nice but it competes with aura share and cleansing water, who are both leagues better then what you suggest.
Fun.
What more reason do you need to play a game, to play an elly?
Make an out-of-combat weapon swap option available to engis and eles.
Like all the other classes but then the ~ button is grayed out while in combat.
Now you can have your stacking sigil on the off-set while still being tied to only 1 weapon set (in combat).
This has been requested numerous times before the sigil issue was even an issue at all.
Applying large quantities of a duration stacking condition is usually a bad idea, especially if you don’t have a lot of cover conditions. You’d need to find a way to slowly apply the chill so that it’s on the target near-permanently but applied in small doses each time it times out/gets removed. That said, Chill is a very underrated condition. The insanely long cooldowns are a real killer.
Looking at nearly every other on-hit effect with an ICD it doesn’t look like it’s going to be per target. So 1 single blind per 5 seconds. I hope I’m wrong.
The damage isn’t the problem. Eles are capable of outputting the highest damage in all aspects of the game. It’s the ratio between damage and survivability that could get some tweaking.
It also can be quite hard to actually deal the damage, and in most cases it’s easily avoided. Doesn’t mean it’s not there though, just means you gotta work a bit more for it.
But to give you an example that is often overlooked or underrated:
Drakes breath with a balanced(celestial) build. That kitten wrecks people!
Glyph of Elemental Power has a 5 second ICD.
The reason I said scepter → Earth is because of the bleeding it does.
Step 1: get scepter / x + condi set.
Step 2: get blind on burn + crit invulnerability in earth attunement.
Step 3: activate glyph of elemental power in fire attunement then switch to earth.
Step 4: auto attack.
Step 5: ??
Step 6: Profit!

Q: How to achieve WvW Server Balance?
A: Make people spread out evenly across all servers.
Q: How to accomplish this?
A: Simple, we don’t.
2v1 doesn’t make a matchup balanced, it makes the score more balanced. In turn the larger populated server will have lesser score then they should have due to the teaming up they had to endure. Ensuring that they will not gain the points they deserve, therefore staying in a tier that is in actuality too low for their population.
The current issue with eles is that they are at the extremes. They can no longer play an all around type role. Their main options:
Spec 1. They have a virtually unkillable build in 1v1. At the same time, they do not put out any damage.
Spec 2. A GC ele has the highest burst in the game. If they go down that route, they also die quickly. The issue is there is no viable spec anywhere in the middle.
mmh that is balance? bunker have to bunker. if they do good dmg that be op. i mean u cant kill them and they kill u in longer fights?
and glascannon builds do great dmg but die fast. ele do with fresh air builds one of the highest dmg ingame. so why the hell should they not die as fast as other GC builds?
Bolded the part you need to reread. When a warrior using zerker amulet & jewel has more effective health than an ele using soldiers amulet & jewel you know things are unbalanced right from the get-go.
In every other MMO I’ve played the lack of stats at one location was compensated for an increase in stats in another location. So the abilities of both classes could be balanced without having to factor in the difference in base stats. I’m not asking for 700 more base power on low health classes but Anets way of trying to balance playstyles around the difference in base-stats is simply not working out for them right now.
I hope they’ll use Fractals of the Mists to replay or revisit some of the past (LS) events, I mean it would fit the lore.
For people who have problems with elementalists having a cheesy high damage combo:
Put some confusion on the ele while he’s in tornado.
Now back to numbers.
I’ve hit 20k once. The zerg was big so I have no idea on who it was but needless to say they wiped and it was the most satisfying moments in WvW history for me. Was at Danelon camp. They were pushing out of the camp and we flanked them with a small group consisting mostly of full glass cannons. They had at least 50 people downed in the first 10 seconds of the engagement.
If you’re good at something, never do it for free…
I think it’s a cool thing for people who are good at dungeons to make some extra buck from people who are lazy. Sadly it’s based on trust which is usually hard to find in online games.
KOBW has been reported (with proof) lots and lots of times. All we can do is keep reporting them and hope Anet will do something about it.
Reset was better then what I expected when I saw Drakkar Sea and Abbadons mouth.
Some people actually fought O__O Thanks for the fights and keep it up!
Just here to point out that you’ll lose out on a lot of healing if you chose to spec for Diamond Skin.
Other then that I’ll reserve judgement because I haven’t sufficiently tested it yet.
Elemental Attunement is a class-defining trait. A caster-only version of it should be baseline, with a 10pt arcana trait to restore the AOE effect.
I still think this is the bestestest idea on the internets.
Want group support? trait for it! But at least allow elementalists to keep their boons.
Other then that I’m not so bummed about the patch. Got some interesting ideas which I will be testing and hopefully I’ll like it. If not, well my old build remains unchanged so I can always switch back to that.
I completely agree with you in a situation where you have a clear target and he can dodge to deny you a larger heal.
My concern however is that even in a stack of 20+ people, with some bad luck, you will hit none. I get the point of the AoE limit, but it’s a pure technical issue, as Anet has stated many times. Hitting a group of 20 only to know that not only did you not deal any damage but also healed for ±4k less then you should have is a very bitter experience.
Now don’t get me wrong, I don’t say this is a bad spell, neither do I say that being able to counter it is bad. Because counterplay is always a good thing, and preferable over rock/paper/scissors type of play in any way, shape or form. I’m merely expressing my concern for the fact that AoE behaves strangely in this game, which would make this spell less effective then it would have been if there were no technical constraints.
My biggest concern is the fact how AoE behaves since this patch:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Game_updates/2013-10-15
“AoE spells with a maximum number of targets will now count combatants that block or evade the attack towards that maximum.”
Just a friendly suggestion, could these people:
I’m against changing it because, hey, some people have already bought it and they like it the way it is. It’s a very small part of the game for everyone else, and not worth changing.
a great many people have bought it precisely because of how it currently looks. One person’s opinion is not going to sway ANet into a re-design when so many people want it to stay as it is.
Denying options to others in an MMO just because of your own pet-peeves is being immature. Suck it up and deal with it. It’s not as horrible as one may think.
Also, feel free to suggest more armor variations but don’t ruin for people that liked and have made efforts and investments in getting the armor.
Please copy-paste these replies in this threat:

It’s of similar concern.
Sorry for going offtopic a bit here.
I agree with the opposition on this one.
In a game where the endgame and basically the objective throughout the game is acquiring and changing the visual aspects of your character, having your looks changed AFTER you spend time/money customizing your character is the worst thing that could happen.
Few matchups ago I fought a guardian who did the exact same thing, except he was in downed state. Also it doesn’t seem like rubber banding because he’s creating distance between them without having swiftness while the ranger has SotH.
Last time, I checked, it’s neither our job to entertain you, nor our fault, your wvw population has structural flaws, which won’t allow your dedicated wvw guys to take a break, if it’s too much for them.
You guys showed some terrific effort at tuesday, when you amassed that mega zerg and just kept on piling up the bodies like in some sort of zombie apocalypse, but I guess, it took too much of a mental toll on your guilds to have this kind of fights when they have been through the treadmill for more than a week already.
It’s a game, entertainment should be the ultimate goal. There is a reason why mechanics that make things “anti-fun” for 1 party are the first to be purged by developers. As a player I usually make sure my fellow players are enjoying themselves as well. I’m not purposely going to lose a fight, but I tend to avoid using strategies that frustrate the hell out of people.
And about our WvW population, 4 weeks before the leagues we got beaten by FoW. That’s where we were at, after the last mass exodus. We hardly had a community left. Simply adding more guilds to a server who was still in the first phase of trying to rebuild its community doesn’t work in such a short time. We certainly improved as a server at an astounding rate. And I’m very impressed and proud of what we did manage to achieve. But we simply didn’t have the time or dedicated people to get things in order before the big matches, nor did we have the coverage to compete with a server like Drakkar Sea.
I’m not going to commend on the Tuesday part because I was in FoW borderland that day and we didn’t have too much trouble there. And getting a mental breakdown over a game is a serious sign that you should play less, just saying.
Anyway, as I said before you lot are very dedicated and as such you deserved the victory but, and this is not meant as an offense, I hope we won’t meet again for a long time, if you know what I’m saying. So good luck to you and have fun!
The problem with your strategies Drakkar is that you take away all the fun of the opposing servers.
It’s good that you found something that works for you but I hope we never ever have to fight against you ever again. Not because I don’t like losing, hell I like losing more then stomping the opposing servers, but it’s because I like to fight.
In 2 weeks time with a lot more time played then I should have done I didn’t get more then 30 minutes of good fights against Drakkar. (massive props to the champion guildless thief with those new green daggers for the duels)
I mean I don’t condone what has been said on the forum in these past 2 weeks but they do give you an indication of how frustrated people are, fighting you.
I think RoS did a great job this matchup in holding the lead for so long against the odds that pretty much destroyed us last week, but it wasn’t enough.
Deserved victory for Drakkar but still a bit soured by the lack of enjoyment in these last 2 weeks.
I just have to say, Drakkar has some good dedicated bunch at least in EB most of the time.
I always admired the dedication of most german (and french) servers. Running dolyaks in a completely owned borderland with up to 30 people for example. It’s a great way to secure upgrades, but I’d get bored out of my mind after 30 minutes. I did a bit more of these boring jobs during the matchup because well… winning is great, innit? But I don’t see myself doing it more often.
One tip I wanted to give you after last weeks matchup is to come out and fight, at least when you’re already secured of victory. It was friday or thursday and you had like a 150k point lead and still nobody left their towers. This week has been more favorable to us so of course we had more “good” fights, so less frustration now.
Also regardless of what many people claim your zerging capabilities are great. We’ve actually been avoiding direct confrontations with our pug zerg against yours, for obvious reasons.
Anyway, keep it up. The week is not over.
Let the best (biggest) server win!
Cmon Surmia, don’t be sleepyheads! Drakkar are driving 550 PPT right now!
I’m rooting for you!Night cappers, something Anet did not foresee as being the deciding factor in many matches.
Last week: Nightcapping – the only appropriate way to stop DL; tremble before the mighty nightraid of Surmia.
This week: Nightcapping – DL’s unfair playstyle; shame on DL for being so awake after midnight.
I’m looking forward to this weeks forum posts, there’s going to be hypocrisy all over the place…
Nobody from Surmia complained about night capping, so I suggest you change your tone a bit.
Yes, and in such a case both servers will be awarded the first place price.
I’m cheering for Fissure of Woe this matchup.
Screw both the blobbers and the bandwagoners!
Allow XP share? Guild members can set to share their XP with a guildy who stays behind to guard / scout a keep, runs dolyaks, trebs for 7 hours straight (wtf?)
(edited by Ray.2640)
Maybe they thought that by now people learned not to get hit by it so we don’t need the floaters anymore.
1 minute 20 seconds:
That’s what happens when every few months either the entire WvW population leaves or you get more people transferring to your server then you started out with.
Between the “bloody retribution alliance” and the Riot/vcy etc lot joining us we at least had time to rebuild and get the balls rolling. Before leagues we weren’t even halfway on our way to creating a stable community yet, when all the people started joining.
It doesn’t sound like you know otherwise you wouldn’t have a problem with this hammer warrior. All good players will get hit with all your burst combos it is just a matter of knowing when to cast them and not making them a predictable button mashing move. Even a warrior with gs and sword/shield will easily get kited. Have you tried to use Rtl and lightning flash to gain distance instead of using them for offense and fgs skill 3 and 4? I bet you haven’t because that’s how you kite a warrior and burst him down at distance; once he comes close you burst him more while avoiding the moves that benefit him the most.
And it doesn’t sound like you’ve actually fought a warrior who’s not just a random fotm noob.
As I said, there were duels where I did manage to burst him, but not reliably.
I’m not going to discuss my capabilities as an elementalist and my experience fighting warriors here with you.
I did over 50 duels with my warrior friend and we both agreed that there is simply no reliable way of beating him. Also note that this is in arranged duels in WvW, surprising someone while roaming or Spvp might be different.
the scepter burst is instant and very hard to dodge…. i suggest you wait until he dodges then burst him after. If you do get hit by a earthshaker use the instant blind on air 3 to mess up his combo
The scepter air-burst didn’t even get his HP below 80%. Trying to hit the other combo’s reliably is nearly impossible against someone who knows how to play, not to mention that if you get your combos off the chance that you’ll end up with less %HP afterwards is very high.
I did much more then just blinding to screw up his combo but it’s not about how many hit’s he can get off, it’s about how long it takes me to recover / re burst him and the pressure he will put on me in the meantime. A good warrior won’t let himself get kited, he has 4 gap closers, 2 of which take half my HP when they land, 2 of them stun me.
As I said, I know how to beat warriors and I rarely lose a 1v1 when I’m roaming. It’s just this one build that I have no possible theoretical or practical way of beating, unless I play perfect and the warrior makes grave mistakes, but even then it’s a matter of chance.
I tried going s/f and even though the damage was higher then his regen it still wasn’t enough to down him before I ran out of defensive CD’s. Remember that you’re not hitting an AFK target, he’ll dodge your burst just as much as you’ll dodge his, his will come off CD about 3 times as fast though.
Something to note: I’ve not had many problems with warriors while roaming.
In fact I’d say I have around a 90% winrate against them if the fight is even. The problem I have is solely with the hammer build that my friend uses. I used to beat him pretty reliably when he still used GS/Axe/shield. Just that duels against skilled hammer warriors are not going to end well.
After doing about 50 duels with various different builds and gear, I’ve concluded that the sheer number of CC / regeneration / damage is too much for us to handle.
Even though I’ve not lost 100% of the duels, the majority of them ended very one-sided.
The main problem is that the elementalist has a clear “offensive rotation” and “defensive rotation”. However the warrior can stay offensive and will keep damaging you, while healing himself up passively.
You can dodge his stun rotation, but doing so will only put it on a 7-8 second cooldown, you can heal his damage up but during your healing he’ll keep damaging you and healing himself at the same time, resulting in a loss/loss situation for you and a win/win for him. Not to mention all his condition cleanses / health regen come passively as he keeps on hitting you.
Getting a good burst on the warrior will not take him down, and between your bursts you’re going to be very defensive in order not to die. During that time he’ll heal back up. And that’s assuming he got hit by your burst in the first place.
Playing the attrition game simply doesn’t work because you’ll be spending most of the time rotating water heals and his passive healing is simply better. Not to mention that even with toughness on every gear piece and 20 points into earth (1800+ tougness) and pretty much permanent protection uptime with 17k hp, his combo dealt around 60-70% of my HP.
Some duels lasted for over 5 minutes where I would be able to survive but it’s all pointless if I’m spending all that time trying to survive and not pressuring him.
I can dodge his combo only so many times but it doesn’t impact the duel at all.
All my duels were against the same warrior using a hammer build.

Anet will do nothing, it’s the player’s responsibility to spread out across the servers.
YOU HAD ONE JOB!
aspirine, it doesn’t matter how many times you say it, it’s not going to change. Just wait till the leagues are over so we can all go back to being stomped by other bronze tier servers.
Ohh, and after 14 months of unbalanced matches, still complaining about it counts as whining. Thank you very much.
Classy Ros, taking fow keeps and stuff with 50+ people. Nice going against one of the weakest servers. I bet you are proud of your bandwagon server now huh.
“We’re not bandwagoning.”
“We’re not blobbing.”
“We came to the bronze league for the fights.”
“We don’t exploit, just glitch into towers & keeps by accident.”GJ RoS!
If you make a list of situations in which this trait is good, you’d end up with a very short list.
I can see why dire geared condi necro’s are fearing it (badum tss) but any other heavy condition spec has many ways to drop an ele below the threshold easily. Engineers, warriors, rangers, even mesmers shouldn’t have too much problems with it.
This will be a situational trait at best, annoying to fight against in a 1v1 if you’re 100% focused on conditions but completely useless in any other situation.
Not to mention this could make glyph builds finally viable.
Get all the effects from all the lingering elements when you activate the glyph.
This could create some fun gameplay, and the best part is that it has it’s drawbacks and counters.
See someone switching trough his attunements in rapid succession? Stun / daze him for a second and he’ll miss the chance to get a tripple effect on the glyph.
You’re also handicapping yourself by putting cooldowns on unused skills by switching trough the attunements fast, so you’re sacrificing efficiency to get the stronger effects.
I’d say, get this done!
Poor Anya
.* whistles * Wasn’t me.
The trusty old 0/x/x/15+/30 build is now completely removed from the game. So much for build diversity…
Why is it that when changing something in the Elementalist you always accompany it with huge nerfs to avoid “power creep” and when buffing other classes it’s just a flat out buff with no strings attached?
Nerfs for the meta stun-lock warriors.
Nerfs for the meta burst necromancers.
Nerfs for the meta s/d evade-spam thieves.
Nerfs for the meta spirit evade-spam rangers.Say again?
I was talking about buffs. Buffs with strings attached.
EDIT: I realize that most other classes are being nerfed next patch, which will indirectly help the ele.
Overall I like the changes, as I said. It’s just the fact that my trusty old D/D will now be shelved and probably be replaced by some generic burst build.
(edited by Ray.2640)
First I was happy, then I saw this:
Arcane V – Elemental Attunement. Moved to Master tier.
Arcane VI – Renewing Stamina. Moved to Master tier.
Why is it that when changing something in the Elementalist you always accompany it with huge nerfs to avoid “power creep” and when buffing other classes it’s just a flat out buff with no strings attached?
Royce did you type that at the exact time Jd was wiping us? Don’t tell me you missed that
Thanks for clarifying. I do not agree with just slapping on some extra heals, but I understand your point.
I think a more active and reactive playstyle would be better for the overall fun of all classes but that would require too many changes to be a feasible solution.
