How do I join?
Who are we looking for?
Friendly Faces
Maturity
Respectful and sociable newcomers
Active players

Joining Silent Sorrow is as easy as going to the website, creating an account, and filling out our application for review by the Recruitment Department (Because we are in the process of building a new site and are using guildlaunch, login with your guildlaunch account and apply to our site with it ^^). Remember, your application is your first opportunity for us to get to know you! While we don’t expect you to be super-serious, we do ask that you to take a moment to show us who you are.

If your application is accepted, you will become a “Recruit.” What does this mean? You will begin an Introductory Period which is planned to last two weeks from the date you accept your in-game guild invite. During the Introductory Period, current guild members will make an active effort to welcome you and show you the ropes. We ask you to take steps to get to know us, as well! Be active in Teamspeak (if you like), on our Website/Forums, and of course, in-game! Please don’t hesitate to ask if you have questions about the guild or the game in general.

FAQ
Is there an age minimum?
Yes and no, but unofficially it is 15. Specifically it is because we cover a wide variety of interests, from the silly and family friendly things to the dark and bizarre. Our roleplays can have “Rated R” material in them, and while we ask all to be respectful there are ‘mature content discussions’ in both our TS3 and forums from time to time. Remember though: Age is a number, and maturity extends far beyond it, so we examine new applicants on a case by case basis: exceptions will be made for the exceptional!

Is Voice Chat Required?
Absolutely not, but it is preferable for when the guild is running dungeons or large events. You’ll sometimes see people responding/ talking to invisible voices in guild chat; they are usually answering someone on our Voice server! As of now we are using TS3 and our information can be found by recruits and members on our forums.

Who can I go to if I have questions?
Well first off, anyone! Don’t feel afraid to ask around if you have ANY questions, but if it’s something you’d like to discuss a bit more privately then feel free to send a message to any, or ALL of the officers in the guild. You can find a full list of them here. You can also post any questions you have here on this thread and we will be happy to answer them as we come across them, or even ask us in game or through PMs on these forums.

What kind of activities do you have?
That’s a handsome question right there! We offer daily events ranging from various dungeons and fractals, RP events (Guild Story progression and more), and sometimes we just like to all get together and run some puzzles or [do a few missions when applicable]. We may not have every event every day, but we try to provide you as a member a plethora of activities to do. If YOU would like to do something and it isn’t on the books, well then you go ahead and ask an Officer to schedule it… or put it up yourself! We encourage all members to organize events if they wish, whether spontaneous or calendared on the forums.

When is your guild most active?
Right now, we are mostly active in the evenings from around 6-12 est (A majority of our events occur around these times!), but we do have several members that play at various times throughout the day and night.

Who are we?
The founders of Silent Sorrow are a group of friends who departed from the same previous guild. We have been playing Guild Wars 2 with each other for around 8 months, and Silent Sorrow was officially created on July 12, 2013.

We are a friendly, energetic, middle of the road RPvX guild who set out to enjoy all GW2 has to offer! Within Silent Sorrow you will find those who dedicate most of their time to roleplay. You will find those who never seem to appear outside Dungeons and Fractals. You will see those whose “Location” is constantly within WvW. And then you will find some who do it all! We feel there is so much GW2 offers that a guild should not limit itself to one aspect; else it limits its membership drastically. If you are happy to hang out with us, we will be happy to hang out with you, regardless of your in-game preferences!

We do require an application before we’ll invite you to the guild—this is simply to have an idea of whether Silent Sorrow is the best guild-home for you. Once your application is accepted, you’ll be a Recruit for about two weeks: this is the time for you to get to know the guild and for the guild’s current members to get to know you!

Roleplaying & Lore
Many years ago, a small bastion in Elona barely escaped, hidden under the oppressive rule of Palawa Joko. It was harsh living in this strict land; a dervish, valiantly protecting his people, a fallen paragon with nothing to her name, and a thief who only cared for himself. Not one of them ever thought they would have to do more than try to get by, until Fate intervened in the form of an unlikely duo- An asura merchant with his Norn protector. Now on the run, they must figure out who can be trusted…and how to survive.
-Story Credit to surviving members Revonin and Alaric Doomflayer as well as previous player Vae

The story so far…..After discovering the secrets of a crazed ancestor and an ancient relic, the guild now ventures into Fireheart rise to discover the heart of the Flame Legion war efforts, and why they are winning on so many fronts. Will any of them survive such a dangerous mission?

Guild Culture
We hope that our members will all get along and conflict will never arise. This is, unfortunately, unlikely! In the event that disagreements arise that cannot be resolved by the involved members, the Guild Leader and Officers may intervene to mediate when a situation affects our culture and/or our members negatively. What does it mean that we will intervene? We will take an active role in resolving conflict within the guild by speaking directly with involved parties (alone or as a group) in an effort to find common ground, whatever the dispute may be. If the concerned parties do not desire intervention from the guild, they must find a way to keep the situation from negatively affecting the guild, or they may be requested to leave the Community.

It is important to us to maintain a Community that is enjoyable for all; not affected by conflict and drama. While our first attempt will be to assist in resolving conflict, it is our responsibility and concern to consider the guild as a whole. Members will only be asked to leave and/or removed from the guild due to disagreements when all other attempts to resolve conflict have failed.

RPvX
We are an RPvX guild, meaning we represent all types of gameplay! If running dungeons is your thing, then we’ve got people to do it with! Like to take the fight to your fellow players and knock some sense into a few people both in the Mists or on the fields of WvWvW? Then we have a burgeoning PvP section that would love to have you and appreciate your involvement and support! Perhaps you prefer to relax in a tavern setting, or solve a murder case, romance a noble, or explore a hidden past….if you can RP it, then you can likely have it. Above all things, none of this is required, it’s all optional; we want you to have the freedom to choose what you’d like to do, and have a group of sociable friends to do it with.

How to continue Orr's story.

Rayean.8726

Other MMO’s tend to handle this with Instancing, not sure if GW2 can. Frankly if they added a new part of Orr it should be one that is in the process of being purified or has been purified so there are far fewer Risen and more (new) wildlife moving in. You could make it so that once a character has completed the PS in it’s totality on an account unlocks the zone for all further chars (Since not everyone wants to retread the last half the story/do Arah SM on different characters).

Election: feedback

As a very wise officer in my guild says, “Vote for Kiel, complain endlessly until Abbadon Fractal is eventually released in the future. Everyone wins”. That they already stated things about protests and caving before, or that the race is FAR closer than people would have thought (I personally though Kiel didn’t have a chance and I’d be stuck with Abbadon AGAIN – Also I think the race is a bit rigged; personal opinion though and not relevant!).

Organize a mass protest and try to do something about it in game? Frankly I guess it goes to show maybe more people want to explore the lore of GW2 and leave things in the past a ‘mystery’.

Something that does a little of both, maybe? Either way, power to the Rifle supporters, for while it may not fit into the lore it shouldn’t be surprising to anyone if it gets tacked onto us.

Do the freq LS updates keep you playing?

in Living World

Posted by: Rayean.8726

Rayean.8726

I’m still playing, but with every event I tune more and more out. I’ll never have a fully ‘completed’ character for my weird MMO OCD’s sake, and with every LS update I become more disinterested.

Someone tell me why we are screwing around while the Elder Dragons are out slowly doing their thing on schedule? Every LS seemingly takes us further away from the PS, and THAT is why I’m interested in GW2! I like them, but it’d be nice if it were like…2 LS, one Big PS chunk, etc. I’d be fine with stretching Living story content out longer – I’d encourage it.

So far, I haven’t been able to recommend the game to my friends on the weird basis of “Oh man, this event was amazing! You should have come tried it since it was a one time only thing and you can’t get the awards again or experience the cool content that was in it.”

Will PS ever continue?

A thief plus my Bomb Engineer (With EG for Condi removal as normal setup) had everything blinded nonstop and made the dungeon pathetically easy. Unfortunately I had to go before we reattempted the final boss but I can say with certainty they beat it without me, took about 40 minutes to get to it and this was when it first came out.

Point Being, enemies cluster up like mad and blinds are hilariously effective. Dropping bombs and running around as a tanky engineer was quite easy on Frizz too, though I’d suspect grenades would have let me do more dps when I got caught on the other half of the room sized field away from Golems and team.

Survey: 2 weeks or 1 month?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Rayean.8726

Rayean.8726

One Month would be infinitely better. It’s still fast enough to constantly churn out content, there is more of a buffer zone for completionists, and it would also (forgive me, but it’s true) stretch out content updates so there wouldn’t be some sort of ‘dry streak’ (if even possible).

I have to phrase it like this, from my point of view. I am a peculiar sort of completionist, in that actually having a character WITHOUT a meta event completed or missing something out can drive me up a wall – I get annoyed that I am NOT able to complete something and often stop playing a game or the character all together. In Guild Wars 2, that is less so – but I absolutely KNOW that in the future I WILL miss out on something that I really want, but I love being able to come back and play. I’m half arsed training myself already to be disappointed by not completing the Sky Pirates meta (Thankfully, GW2 already freed me from my ‘catch ’em all’ minipets obsession with the expensive market and mega limited time offer pets) or playing much right now….that way I can go “Eh, it’s not a big deal since I’ll never have a FULLY complete character…it’s ok to miss an event!”

Weird, but yeah. I feel like changing the time to longer than two weeks or adding more permanent content instead would be a MASSIVE improvement. I’d like to invite people to play and not have to go…“Well, I’d show you my favorite part of the game but it only happened for two weeks and you can’t do it anymore ever again!”, hahahaha!

I love the utility of the shield – The off hand pistol makes it a bit easier to apply certain things with ease (Glue shot, Flame) but really….the combo heave nature of the shield makes me never leave home without it. Need an interrupt…or two? Shield. Knockbacks to help with reviving a poor soul being wailed on by a mob tag team? Shield. Combo field blast finishers? Shield. It meshes so well with bombs and elixir gun….I just never leave home without it!

I need Help to Rescue my Small Guild.

in Looking for...

Rayean.8726

Hey there! I was actually in your position in my previous guild; the GW2 division activity dropped from about 30-40+ at launch to just 1-2 people online at a time (Most times it was the same one person, or me.). A fellow officer and I underwent a major revamp of the division: We recruited our butts off, established new ways to keep people interested, and soon went from that 1-2 to 5-6, then 6-10, then 15+. As far as I know, they still have activity and are doing well!

Here are a few things that helped us!

1) Establish a goal. You need a good end goal – it could be “I need 6 people for constant RP nights” or “We want to always have enough to do dungeons so often, or guild missions”

2) Talk to your guild members! Communication is very important, try holding a guild meeting (perhaps once a month, even!)and see what everyone is looking for. Maybe they have the same goals as you and will help work towards them. Approach them individually as well; let everyone know the happenings and what you are all trying accomplish – you may see more representing if they all want to get to that next level of Guild missions! While being a guild with a Min representation goal is admirable, don’t be shy to let them know “Hey, we’re a home for you! We don’t want to pressure you into any particular heavy rules, but anytime you think you could help us out on influence and represent so we can all hit that next level of missions it’d be great”

3) Don’t get discouraged. People WILL leave! They’ll ind something else, or they may stop playing; such is the way of an MMO guild…what’s important is to not let it get you down and to keep forging ahead. It sounds simple, but it’s hard in practice. We lost our whole pvp section when rebuilding (All…4 players. But still, it was a hard loss) twice over.

4) Have fun. That’s it – you have fun!

5) Organization and Delegation – Having someone(s) on to let everyone know when things are coming up, or putting it in the message is a simple, yet important lifesaver!

6) Having an accessible calendar helps, A LOT. I know a lot of people don’t do it, but having a site with something as simple as a calendar people can put events on is AMAZING. It lets everyone know when stuff is, and what they will be doing.

Above all (Sorry, this was and is a long read) not everything works for everyone. Consider trying to do a contest where people recruiting those they run into earn points, or try to hold a server event and get people interested in your guild. Don’t ever be afraid to branch out in new ways; the worst you can do is fail and start over. Everyone above me has offered fantastic advice; all of us who have lead, created, and held onto guilds know that the one of the most important…if not THE most important thing is Quality. Quality over quantity makes the best community – You could have 300 members but if they don’t all get along…well that’s a headache for the higher ups on a daily basis (Heck, it is even with 60-100, I know from experience XD). A group of 10-20 tight knit players can last through things others would crumble over; and a friends to help you out and place your trust in is a commodity you’ll never have enough of. If you ever need to talk about anything or are looking for ideas, just let me know in game and I’ll be happy to answer (assuming I’m not AFK staring at the Traders in the Grove)

Safe to say, but I’m done with the RNG stuff, forever! It kinda ruins the entire fun of the whole festival for me. I get that things should be rare, but they should also be accessible. I feel awful for people who spent far more than me and also got nothing. Sorry guys, but we can all assume this is what it will be like from here on out.

Finding the pages and completing the book an a level 17 alt was fun; comedic gold for my Guild Escort as well while he attempted to stem the tide of an entire zone that wanted be dead. The Mad King instance was pretty fun albeit annoying, and all the side activities are an entertaining diversion.

Tying a timed jumping puzzle to the Title that is next to impossible for me to complete while looking at 10 other people, several of which are Charr…..not fun. I was doing well in my own little instance and almost made it until the game decided to merge me into an instance of another group :/. At this point, I’d rather put on a fancy outfit, don a pumpkin on my head and set it on fire while I walk around town in agony telling terrible jokes before attempting that Jumping Puzzle again.

TL;DR : It was all fun except for the Clocktower. Cut out the group instances of it or cut it from the title.

Server Transfer 1 per 7 Days. Instead of 1 Per 1 Day.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Rayean.8726

Rayean.8726

One issue about this is when you have a Multi Server guild. Take the one I am in for example; because of some problems we are rebuilding the population of it from the ground up at the moment. As an RP-PvE/PvP guild we have a section of players on Tarnished Coast, and many of our PvPers are on Jade Quarry. However, once this new limit has been established we will not be able to transfer over for a large RP event on Tarnished Coast and then return back the next day, and it will also make it harder for us to help out a side if they are having trouble running a Guild inclusive dungeon. Guest passing would greatly alleviate this problem, and was one of the reasons we went with a split server (To satisfy a the RP/PvP sides of the guild, as PvE would be on both.

I realize that this doesn’t affect everyone, but to some of us the 1 week transfer limit is a big problem that we will not be able to create a solution for….it is hard enough trying to find an overflow server to run Jumping Puzzle events and scavenger hunts to include everyone fairly.

I play with those on Tarnished Coast and am almost always around in our TS3 or the forums so if you’re looking to join or are interested just shoot me a message and we can engage in jolly conversation. You may find it hard to see me in game (I…uh realized that having almost double the playtime of anyone else in the guild wasn’t healthy so I’m taking a break >>;) but when I’m on I will generally be RPing in Divinity’s Reach or just out on the road.

I look forward to seeing you in game, and may you ever find the light in dark places.
