Is there any reward for playing in S4? I have the wings and I’m not seeing a title in the achievement section and have 210 pvp tickets rotting.
The reward is the satisfaction of winning games when you must carries bad players wins.
I still don’t find any logic in removing the Gift of Battle from the vendor.
Why does it have to be one or the other instead of both?!?
Not broken really. Only broken if you don’t know how to fight it. Easiest way to beat them, get a dragon hunter, drop some traps, laugh as they can’t dodge out of Dragon’s Maw.
But there’s one piece missing in our vision of PvP—one feature on that road map that was to serve as a place for beginning PvP players as well as up-and-coming PvP talent to compete, see progress, set goals, and be rewarded. We have regular competitive events for our top PvP teams; now we’re adding a system that allows everyone to compete and be rewarded. I’m excited to announce our PvP League feature for Guild Wars 2.
Problem is people trying to make out of the League something that isn’t. Saying casuals shouldn’t play? That’s people generating toxicity when Anet stated themselves the league was made for every kind of player. If one have a high competitive drive, they should try to aim and focus on the weekly tournaments and the Pro League more than the League.
Then Anet has to figure out a way to keep newbie or starter players with other newbie or starter players and more experienced players with more experienced players.
The toxicity starts the moment you get a guy on your team that has no clue what to do. And I expect that in amber or emerald even. But what’s something like that doing in Ruby?
Ruby is 2 tiers away from “legendary” – I’m thinking that at least in theory we should not be seeing “new” or “inexperienced” players there.
Also the toxicity has increased not because of “high competitive drive” – we all know that any decent player with a high competitive drive won’t bother with THIS game’s PvP – because it isn’t really worth it.
The reason people have PvPd a lot recently is the backpiece. People have a high-reward drive – and all that “toxicity” that comes with people wanting their reward and being upset with others that get in their way has now spilled into PvP on top of the already existing “normal” PvP toxicity.
All I can suggest is to get more eyes on your gameplay and to record your play to review and see what you could have done better.
As far as getting top scorer or some other metric data, there’s really no way to measure your performance as a thief without often being a liability in some respect. Winning the game and being a cause for it is often the only benefit you’ll really be able to measure by. Boosting outgoing damage numbers in terms of team placement or something isn’t going to verify you’re a better or worse thief, because that’s not what the class does in sPvP. Almost anyone can get top damage on a thief. But doing so often comes with most deaths and being a total liability to the overall game’s score.
Really, without a video breakdown of your play with people critiquing your play and decisions as the game unfolds, there’s little anyone can suggest to improve.
If you want to get better at the thief or sPvP as a whole, play other builds, professions, etc. to better learn about their nuances so that you can increase your fight effectiveness should you be forced into one or be a potential point-saver in a critical make-or-break skirmish for the game. Otherwise, you really shouldn’t be participating in combat much because our combat effectiveness in sPvP from a mathematical perspective is fairly poor.
Just had a game vs Zoose who is diamond and I’m ruby T2. If e-harmony had this type of matchmaking they’d be out of business.
Reporting DOES work, but you need more reports for it to work, and most people won’t report because they don’t see any specific option for it, or think it does nothing.
And so we have players who keep cheating and griefing going at it without repercussions.
Reporting doesn’t work. I queue into same ppl all the time, every day and i don’t see them being punished even though i reported them. Fun fact: don’t you dare to leave any tiny comment about Anet job, you get insta 2 weeks bann on forums slapped in your face. But hundret of players griefing other is no problem apparently.
There must be some competition for game developers to dish out the worst content imaginable, EA is bad, Ubisoft is bad, but ArenaNet, guys, you certainly racked up the points with this one.
First you push the new gem store boosters on your players. “Check out or new Magic Find and Exp Boosters!” Then continue to produce content that neither gives exp or loot from mob kills. You make it, 30 minutes long, and only reward players who slogged through to the end. Counterproductive for players who go LD in massive overpopulated areas, have lousy internet connections. The list goes on.
The reward doesn’t even cover the cost of all the WP usage the players do. The fights are gimmicks, unfun, and simply zerging from event to event. If this is the kind of content design we’re looking foward to in HoT. Quite frankly, I’m worried.
All I’m getting from this is it’s supposed to be a money sink for players to shill out gold for token bought rewards (+gold cost) for old content stuff, and spend lots of silver which adds up between WPing around. Sure, if you simply MUST HAVE the scarlet gloves or something, it may be worth it, but probably not even then, as you could literally do anything else in the game and make more ten times the reward, and probably have more fun doing it.
Yeah, pricing on these is non-nonsensical, but pretty much in line with the generally flawed pricing strategy on many items offered. It should be fairly obvious that a lower price on the hair kit would not only be fair, but might actually encourage more frequent purchase/use of those kits by people to routinely change their look.
It could be that the narrow price gap is meant to encourage people to just spend a little more for the full make-over kit, but, imo, that just results in far fewer people buying/using look changing offerings far less frequently, leading to far lower annual revenues.
I’ve stopped trying to make sense of gem store pricing. We are talking about virtual goods with zero per item cost. Pricing for maximum sales and revenue should be the goal, rather than trying to see exactly how much they can eek from a few buyers with deep pockets and/or poor impulse control, regardless of over all revenue.
It goes to show that this will probably turn out to be more smoke and mirrors so they can claim they listen and care. ET/DR are not medium, not unless you consider low, no one on the map at all ever.
They need to merge servers, they need to get over their pride and realize that 3 years is a decent amount of time. Things die down after awhile, GW2 is no different, there is no shame in admitting that their player base numbers have dropped, it happens in every game. This refusal to merge is just blind pride getting in the way of reason.
Serious folks. Since the beginning, Anet has made wvw a backburner task… meaning… they don’t care so much about us.
This golem week proved it more so, when we complained, they ignored. Even ignored the golem buff bug.
THEY IGNORED THE FACT THAT EXPLOITERS WERE RUINING THE GAME PLAY OF THOSE WHO DO NOT EXPLOIT. I should not have had to type that in caps, but everyone is forgetting so fast.
They still haven’t banned the blacktide hacker, even though they have gotten real time information and should have been able to stop that fellow from ruinging people’s game play.
NOW, they say they are going to make changes to populations, BUT, no change to transfer costs.
Seriously folks. Man up. Anet has ignored wvw almost exclusively for three years, made no real attempts to balance population balances, and forced us to pay for transfers out of our own pockets to try and improve our chances to have fun in the game.
For F sakes guys. This is so maddening. They milk wvw players more then anyone else (we are the only ones who pay for transfers), and even though the responsibility is for them to make the wvw balanced and us somewhat happy, they still want us to keep paying for extremely late changes.
You actually think, that after so long, they are going to get something right? Won’t happen. it is all about draining the sheep of money.
And again. This one of the reasons anet has no integrity and why I am not buyuing the expansion. I’m going to play for free because I would not pay for this drivel.
You guys purchase if you like.
With respect, no information was actually shared other than something may in some way change with HoT. Ambiguous information is often more frustrating than none at all.

Definitely not a requirement. Even min-maxing, a 5% margin of gain just isn’t worth the fuss.
People that went crazy about the might nerf apparently do not agree. And it’s bigger than 5%.
If you work 20 hours a week and a Co-worker works 60, Do you feel you are entitled to the same rewards? No.
It’s supposed to be fun and entertainment. If i wanted hard work, i’d stay in RL where i have enough of it already, so using examples based on how RL is supposed to work (no pun intended) is getting you nowhere.
Also, in RL there are actually lot of people that work less and yet earn more than others, so even in that regard the example is flawed.

This is ridiculous hehe. This whole point of not needing the best gear hehe.
Its like you say:“you dont need the best drug to treat your disease, the generic drug is just a LITTLE LESS effective”
This ridiculous rationalization attempt goes against human nature. We could have lived in stone age to this day,“we were killing just fine”(its totaly not “I can do hearts just fine” parody). But guess what we are not because we NEED and WANT the best,we constantly progress. Its our nature…
Whay can Russia or US do whatever they want?Simple they both have full Ascended(and best food ). Unlike Ukraine that is in blue gear and has no “food”(not in a fancy guild also).
Increase in power you get from ascended gear is noticable.Again its DPS base from weapon all added power and mults. This translates to around 15-20% bonus dmg.Faster kill rates also reduce the dmg you recive,so in the end you are much stronger then in exotic.
Ascended gear was not made because exotics were so easy to get.Who ever belives that is well…“sapecial”.Ascended was created to force people to think:“credit card vs time wasted”,“buy the gems and have fun”.Conveniently exchange rates are better by the day…
I can understand alot of people cant afford Ascended gear,or they get dishearted when they see what is needed to get that gear. But dont tell me people dont NEED and WANT best gear, its just ridiculous.
“We doin hearts just fine,Me and 100% of mi guild” and “we gots nottin but pants on”
“All day, every day and is so fun,all day, everyday…”

MMO Revolution,soon in jungle…
But..but….they said you dont needz it!
BiS, optimal play…it’s all in your heads, you thilly muppets!
Time to re-condition your way of thinking as to be more in line with the game’s vision to have BS…I mean BiS gear by the time you’re 80!
Who knows, perhaps the ‘i’ in the manifesto’s ‘BiS’ was but a typo all along-

Used 14 tomes of knowledge then a level 20 scroll LOL
I once saw someone having a tough time in fight and rushed over to help but was too late. While reviving her I apologised for being late. She didn’t say anything back and once she got up I saw that I’d been talking and helping an NPC.
It had been a long gaming session.
1200 range……………….
I’m not an RPer although on every MMO I play, I usually reside on an (un)official RP server. Why? Because RPers help to build that immersion that it often missing in MMOs where your typical activity consists of go here, kill that. It’s fun being able to stumble across RPers in the wild and listen in on their conversations (much as you would walking into a pub and listening to the conversation at the bar) because it helps to create that sense of a dynamic living world.
The Megaservers, for me at least has all but killed off RP in Piken Square outside of the main cities. The hunter’s lodge in Queensdale is now deserted when I go by, no doubt because the RPers are on a different instance, and the Sunday night meets that used to take place in Shaemoor near the BLTC posts have all but vanished.
I would like to see an option where clicking on an RP option somewhere, places you in an instance with RPers but I doubt this is even possible to implement with the game as it is. It was telling that in yesterday’s HoT annoucement, all bases were covered (PvE, WvW, PvP, Guilds) except for RP.
What a shame.
Hello, my name is Ravid aka ROovid the Quaggan…..amongst other names….and this is not the type of post you thought you were going to read on a saturday morning after a great big PAX announcement. I am a roleplayer and I realize now….after much struggle, debate, and hoping against all hope that things would be different….that I am no longer the target demographic of arenanet.
I started playing back in beta….bounced around servers for a few days…before finding my long time home on Tarnished Coast, which at the time was the unofficial RP server and oh the fun we had. There were parties and RP weddings….there were heated political discussions about the Queen and the Pale Tree….and frantic random RP sessions that would happen out in the world or in Reach with the friendliest of people that would stretch on into the night….there was even the Quaggan News Network…QNN for short…where a wee little Quaggan named ROovid would wibble wobble about the lands of Tyria.
And all was good for a time….and then Mega Servers happened….and we in the RP community tried our hardest…with taxis to populated instances and focused guilds….but…it just took so much effort….folks drifted away….the element of surprise wasn’t there anymore….every time you would login…you were always somewhere new….no one was familiar anymore.
I lost friends…family….people I cared about…I played for a little longer…I did the living story stuff…but even the lore began to fall short of what I knew could be written…but wasn’t….finally I logged in a few weeks ago…told my usual holiday story “How Quaggan Saved CoOOoOristmas” in mapchat…got reported by mostly everyone…and saw that no one on my massive list of contacts was on….I went to Reach….I vented…I ranted…and raved to some ANET staff member….of the loss I felt and the hatred that burned within me for those that stripped my family away from me…I logged out…the next living story update came….suddenly I was only able download at 3 KB/s…instead of the 3 MB/s that my connection was capable of….took that as a sign…and now I sit here writing this post on a saturday morning…wondering if any of it even mattered at all, all that time….
So I’m saying goodbye, I’m not the type of person that ANET is building their game for and I don’t think that they ever considered that roleplayers would take to their game with such passion and joy….they didn’t know what to do….they had to make a game that made money…so what if a few people left…there would always be others to replace them.
So it goes.
That’s it from me, this is is ROovid the Quaggan of The Quaggan News Network wishing you all a very CoOoOOo day fillled with many fishies and coOOokies and hugs…mellaggan and melandru bless you all….safe paths, dream well…
Be good to each other
You shouldn’t play any of the core professions at all. The real profit is in playing an Economancer. As an Economancer, you will have to acquire or utilize your existing proficiency in spreadsheets and data trending in tandem with other existent resources to identify profitable markets and systematically exploit them.
In this fashion, you will generate the class’s core resource – gold. With gold, you can acquire virtually anything you might desire in the game, up to and including Legendary weapons. Via careful cultivation of your class resource you will meet and tackle Trading Post challenges that will subtly differ from week to week, ultimately earning your way into the almighty Legendary flipping market, where the stakes are at their highest and your entire fortune might be multiplied or lost with the shifting of the economic climate’s tides.
The Economancer has no need to pvp – they can, if played to a respectable level, afford to simply buy anything they might desire anyway, with very little to necessarily entice the Economancer to direct involvement.
The Economancer has no WvW advantage except perhaps for the distantly secondary advantage of never needing to bother with it if it isn’t in their interest.
The Economancer will be as specifically suited to PvE as their skill, knowledge and willingness to expend Gold for just the right combinations of gear and utility items to support themselves and a team in dungeons, at world boss fights and even in lower-tier pre-agony fractals allows.
Don’t settle for being a mere peasant-caste vagabond! Play an Economancer today, and learn the powerful truth of that the Golden Rule means that whomever has the gold, makes the rules!
I only had like 4 hours to play on saturday and sunday, but i popped a Killstreak booster and an XP booster too and got my thief from lvl 45 to 72 by doing map completion. I guess i could’ve done better but……
Yeah, I found it disconcerting that they didn’t say how much it would cost. I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s more than $50.
That was the most important piece of information they left out, for me.
Hi guys,
I’m a Senior UX UI designer and I’ve been playing GW2 since the betas, with long breaks in-between and since I’ve spent quite a lot of hours with this game, I’ve noticed some flaws in the games UX (user experience) and thus I decided to tackle it in order to diversify my portfolio. This lead me to redesigning some of the in-game UI’s & the official website.
About the project
The project started last summer, as I was redesigning my portfolio website, I wanted to take a break from my regular website design so I started redesigning the GW2 official website, since I missed working on a more creative & artsy website. This last holiday season I had a few days free so I decided to continue this project and tackle the in-game UI’s since I wasn’t really a fan of how some things were currently done.
What I’ve redesigned
The Entire Design in PDF format – Horizontal layout
The Entire Design in JPG format – Vertical layout
Note
There are a lot of explanations that point out to different things & the reason behind my design decisions. The entire project took roughly 2-3 weeks, so It could be better, but unfortunately I don’t have access to actual game or player data and I kinda ran out of free time.
Hope you enjoy.
UPDATE:
Since some of you wanted to see how this would look in-game, I made a quick in-game prototype:

In case some of you are interested in seeing the behind the scenes process like the research, sketches, what I learned and so on, feel free to check out the link from my portfolio.

There’s a very distinct chance that some unknown-but-tacitly-relevant quantity of people would quietly abandon GW2 and never come back if they raised the level cap and effectively rendered all our gear collections obsolete.
Personally, I’d be gone the moment I read the confirmed intention. If I’m going to play a gear-treadmill game, I’ll play one that never tried to be anything else and has been doing it right from the start.
GW2 trying to be that? No. That is not why I (or probably some/many) are here. That is not the game experience I want here. That is not what I will accept here.
Rha, I proposed some hairstyles, and I still work … But I do not know if the developers involved Asura like it, or do not want to deal with the Asuras.
Thanks for making the world a better and safer place!
