You dont have to be one to love one.
You dont have to be one to love one.
Well, my past mesmer Armaeas, sylvari level 80 100% map completion, did it for server transfer before the megaserver system. No regrets.
I bought this game almost a month back now and I’ve barely played it. Couple hours spent on it, thats all. I was looking for an MMORPG because I’ve enjoyed them in the past. Played Runescape for years. Played SWTOR for a month and only stopped because I didn’t have much time on my hands. I enjoyed Runescape a LONG time ago, and SWTOR recently.
Did some research on MMOs, found this, saw great reviews, how its the MMO that breaks the norm of grinding, saw an awesome review by Angry Joe. In particular, he mentioned he couldn’t get into SWTOR despite the awesome concept because of the lack of interesting game play. He struck me as someone who was looking for an MMO experience that actually had a soul to it.
So I spend 35$ on this, start playing, and what do I get? Maybe a few minutes of interesting story and then hours of follow the arrow, kill stuff for WAY longer than should be necessary, level up, move on. Seriously? This is exactly what I was told this game DOESN’T have. Why do I have to spend 15 minutes dancing for cows and killing worms by spamming a key to fill up a bar?
Honestly this is the reason I hate spending money on games these days.
The only reason I’m still trying is because I feel guilty for spending money on this.
So please help me find ways to make this experience more “fun”, since the game refuses to do that for me. I discovered the random events already. Besides that so far I’m just following arrows and doing side quests that involve killing 20 of something. Does this end? When does this end? Is there any other alternative to progressing in the game and hopefully getting somewhere better? What else can I do except be the NPC’s kitten?
HONESTLY despite being a WoW clone I found SWTOR a lot more fun.
Sorry to tell you this, but you fell for the hype.
next time learn from this mistake.
Yep, levels don’t really add anything to a game. On the contrary, they hinder and hold back. If the playing experience is so empty that you need that “ding” to feel like you accomplished anything, maybe that playing experience should be re-evaluated.
You don’t need a ding to want to explore or want to move forward in a story, or want to defeat some challenge to gain something (be it new loot, new features, new places, etc). Certainly don’t need it for smashing face in pvp. Leveling is just this pointless arbitrary thing that gets in the way of what you want to be doing.
I loved that GW1 had only 20 levels (still could have been 0, but a low number is still better than high). And I look forward to EQN having no character levels (instead, class “tiers” and only up to 5).
Server: Tarnished Coast
inb4 “it’s easy”
inb4 “you don’t have to do it”
inb4 “go back to WoW”
I’ll make this brief,
The only thing I’ve found enjoyable about this event is the snowball fights, and I don’t even do PvP! I found the jumping puzzle to be less puzzling and I found the bell choir to be more difficult than playing “Through the Fire and Flames” on Guitar Hero. And surviving the toys? Have fun with that; it’s a joke of a dungeon. Might as well have put Scarlet back in Lions Arch.
My point here is that seasonal events should be a moment for players to refresh, loosen up, and take a nice break from all the heavy grinding they do on a daily basis. Not for them to sit hour upon hour trying to perfect something in a trial-and-error way. That’s ridiculous.
ANet, seriously take a moment and FOR ONCE make your leisure content…leisurely. Otherwise your Wintersday will continue to be confined to a winters day for people like me; one day. Thats it. A day.
Good day.
Why do players lump the Traits revamp in with the NPE? So odd.
The trait changes (still) aren’t obvious unless you level a character created after the change. Thus, the player response has been more of a slow burn than a brush fire like the gem exchange deal, which garnered immediate attention. I’d guess there are still players out there who remain unaware of the effects of the trait system redesign.
Perhaps some of these players created new characters around the time NPE was implemented, and therefore conflate the trait system redesign with it.
Next patch:
D/D – nerfed
D/P – nerfed
S/D – nerfed some moar
Reasoning:
Thought we would expand build diversity by changing the meta builds for thieves.
Man, who am I kidding, that would mean the devs read the thief forum… ha!

So OP in answer to your question, it seems like a lot of people do want Season 3. Including me.
A post full of negative opinions…
“The opinions expressed in this thread are those of the vocal minority.”
Only 1% of the players post in the forums, so in the end everything posted here is the opinion of a minority.
Source ( in german ) :
https://forum-de.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Mehr-Transparenz-beim-Runden-Tisch/416077
I hate to be the bearer of bad news but this isn’t how it works. We don’t know what percentage of people who play the game post on reddit and the forums. We do know however that these are the only mediums of communication that the devs have available. There are no in game polls to express content with the game and opinions on certain issues.
If the forums/reddit were such a minority, why would they be so influential in Anets decision making. Balance changes have been made because of them, the Gemstore Apocalypse was prevented because of them, Cantha, SAB, temporary content, CDI CDI CDI, etc. Anet creates the CDI for a place of discussion for certain future/current areas of development because they want to have a perspective on the communities desire.
Plus, if you truly believed that this place was a minority, then I guess you and Vayne are wrong because then that would mean your belief that the majority of people on this thread who say they want another Season 3, are only a small percentage of the population. I could just as easily say that the majority of people don’t want another Season, but they just don’t use the forums or play the game anymore.
“Does anyone actually want a Season 3?”
I don’t, I rather Anet just do a eComic accessed maybe through our personal home instance library (more room to tell a story and show off that great art style) throughout the year that leads to a real expansion worth of content that LS has proven it can’t provide. Anet quarterly reports should give a pretty good idea, time will tell.

I didn’t play GW1.
If people manage to play GW1 for 8 years, I don’t see GW2 having problem to run for a long time.
dude i have seen horrible and insanely bad super F2p games run to this day, since like 2006. its not about THAT, and it will never be about THAT. its, will the game ever go anywhere? no1 wants to stick along for a game that never improves.
Since I now know that most folks don’t read the entire thread and since concerned posters have advised me as such, I have put up a “spoiler” to clarify the situation.
Its very heartening to hear all your comments (so far).
In reality, my brother was the victim and I really have no idea why he was kicked except it was sudden and without warning (the guy admitted as much).
I have no idea if its really because they have a guildie who has Nomads/Magi but when I thought about it, it was the only reason I could think of.
I apologize for presenting the scenario in this way but I felt from the victim’s perspective will make me look whiney… And, to increase awareness of establishing a pattern to combat such behavior.
To the OP: I understand your technique in trying to make a point across, but I don’t think it was as good idea as you possibly thought it was, so I suggest you change it as some people are still clearly not understanding that you’re not trolling dungeon parties even after you’ve revealed you are not.
To those who read the entire thread and understood my point, thank you!
The original OP can still be found as quotes in some posts but I urge you to take a look at the screenshots provided before jumping to conclusions.
If I learnt one thing today, its that people don’t read the other posts before replying. :\
I am glad for the community’s indignation and outrage to such a thing but am unsure if it will make a difference in the end. I can only hope.

Well my norn ranger has been level 80 for a while now and I have 4 traits unlocked. I’m mapping Lornar’s Pass now so hey, I’ll have 5 soon (4 adept and one master -wooot!!)! I wonder how many more months of WORK I will have to do to get an actual build?
Clearly he was not intelligent enough to understand the system before, and now that he can understand it he is so happy he has been brought to tears.

You have just made my 6 year old son cry.
He was happily playing until the patch went down, running around chasing his green storyline star raining death on his enemies with his longbow ranger(lvl 6)
He logged back in and started playing then sounded really distressed and came over to me telling me his game was broken, about to cry because he couldn’t find his star and his weapon isn’t working properly because his last skill isn’t unlocked. So friendly to new players. :<
Just explain to your son that the metrics indicated that these changes are for the best, I’m sure he will understand.
Does anyone like the new leveling changes?
Reportedly, some young guy in China.
Makes those level to 20 scrolls a lot more valuable now.
Thankgoodness I had one in my bank. I had certain unlocks pop up retrospectively having used the scroll to jump to lvl 20. This kinda peeved me though… it seems new players wont be able to join a guild and benefit from the experience of other more experienced players until they are level 16.

A dev in disguise?
There are a lot of calls for “revert” here – but I don’t think people realise how hard that is to do from a software development perspective.
GW2 is an extremely complex game with many interdependent systems. It’s inevitable that there will be other systems in the game which now depend on code in the new Traits system. Rolling back to the “old” system would break things elsewhere.
This practically means that a roll-back or revert might take nearly as much development resource as building Traits 3.0. Thus the desire to “hotfix” as much as possible and then use the learnings from Traits 2.0 (current) to make a really good next iteration. This learning comes from data analysis of actual players (e.g. how many are really getting stuck due to traitlock at level 40, 60 etc. vs getting to 80 and playing regularly) – as well as forum members and other feedback points.
Of course, implementing Traits 3.0 means adjusting all of the parts of the system that depend on the current system. As a result, this can’t just happen any time. It needs to be part of a “whole-of-system” review. So maybe we’ll see this in Feature Pack 3, 4 or 5…
In the meanwhile, the best thing readers of this thread can do is give them info to implement hotfixes within the current system. If we can help them get 60% of the way there with hotfixes then they can focus Feature Pack 3 or 4 effort on making new stuff vs. fixing existing stuff.
Well, if they were willing to actually read the thread, there are plenty of ideas for new iterations and hotfixes both. But since they went for almost 5 months without responding to the feedback, there are nearly 50 pages to read, and they don’t want to expend the energy.
I know what Jon Peters wants from us, I just find it insulting.
-Mike O’Brien
Because we can’t be angry about both?
Yeah, I mean, that’s the bit that’s most annoying. Since the day the April patch dropped, this thread has been active. Then, after months and months, they come in and say “Oh, this thread is too long to read, could you summarize why you’re all so unhappy?”
Summary: The system sucks. It’s absurd to gate character development that way. The cost to “buy” your character is completely out of range for a new character. The quests are absurd. Complete zone completion for a single trait on a single character? Madness. Quests that require champ trains, quests in zones 20 levels higher than the player, WVW objectives that nobody wants to do. The whole thing is stupid, game breaking, and frustrating, and will probably be the reason many of us never level another character. Thus, when we get bored with existing 80s, we’ll probably stop playing. New characters are already leaving when they realize the game is dead levels between 10 and 80.
There. Summarized.
Talk about insulting.

I’ll make this quick. I posted something similar to this thread months ago but I feel like now might be a better time for this to get noticed because of ANET’s great success in the plush backpacks.
Situation (Optional Read): So I’m walking down Lion’s Arch and the sylvari ladies are swooning (and some of the men). A little flex of that 3 inch circumference bicep and they go wild. That Nightmare Court Set shows how much of a bad-boy my sylvari is. I’m feeling a little kitteny so I decide to put on a little fire show for my amazed spectators so I slot my grenade kit. However, to my dismay, the hobo sack instantly drains all of my charisma. My 3 inch bicep reduces to a 1 inch instantly. My nightmare court gear instantly withers away to dust. The show was over before it even began. The once entranced sylvari ladies now walk over to the suave elementalist who displays a fire show so great, it nearly made a steam vegetable mix out of the audience. I log out, uninstall, drive over to ANET HQ, and dump 10 lbs of freshly steamed garden salad in front of their doors.
—————————————————————————————————————————————————————————-
Story Time over
-This game is based on cosmetics. Endgame is based on cosmetics. Dungeon armor serves only to provide cosmetics. People spend hours and hours on cosmetics.
-Engineers must wear hobo sacks and stow their weapons during parts of fights. Almost all engineers have at least 1 hobo sack in his/her utility slots.
- Hobo sacks are ugly. They cover the beautiful plush backpack items. My hobo sack doesn’t match my bad-boy Nightmare Court wardrobe.
Solution: 1. Allow cosmetic upgrades to hobo sacks available in the gem store (Maybe I can turn my cute quaggan backpack into a grenade bag?). 2. Allow us to use kits without having hobo sacks. 3. Let us display our stowed weapons while using grenades or a flamethrower, etc.
———————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————
Simplest and most efficient fix: Give us a toggle to hide or show hobo-sacks when we have a kit equipped. It’s probably an easy update, it is optional (so those who want to keep the hobo look can), and it will probably help sales for the new quaggan and charr backpacks.
Thanks.

Tell them you will not use your elite skill if they don’t use their healing skill. I think it is reasonable trade.
A moderator locked my question about Personality traits and sent me here. But I’m not talking about these traits. I’m talking about Personality
Where did Charm, Dignity and Ferocity go? In character creation, you choose if you are charming, dignified or ferocious. “Trouble may follow me, but I use my _ to overcome it.” Those stats are gone from my Hero page. Not that it really matters, cuz they never made a difference in-game anyway.(sorry to post here but the moderator told me to)
One of those traits was Ferocity. So probably this was the decision process.

My favored LS1 was the minion invasion from https://www.guildwars2.com/en/the-game/releases/august-20-2013/#events
This was the day that the zergs took form in open world, and never let up. They existed, sparingly before, but this is another day in infamy, along with the November 2012 patch.
The day will go down in infamy? Really? To whom. I’m willing to wager most people who play the game don’t even know what you’re talking about when you say the November 12 patch.
Again here we see people who actually liked the living story and posting about it, because they miss something that “everyone on the forums” was complaining about. My point keeps getting illustrated again and again.
This isn’t a unified player base that all want one thing. We’re an extremely divided player base that all want different things.
I doubt any one group has any kind of clear majority. But many think they do.
Anyone who has been around since launch knows what the November 2012 patch brought. It started a trend of controversial design decisions by Arenanet, moreso than any other MMO Ive played.
But please, feel free to continue to use the same old argument with me that there are different strokes for different folks. I didn’t hear you the first time(or the second, the third, etc).
The day is forgotten by mostly everyone. Many who left have, unlike you, moved on to other games and they’re not here, thinking about the day the lives in infamy. It’s a gross overstatement of a tiny minority of players who absolutely can’t have any vertical progression in their game at all. I remember all the slippery slope outcries since that day, all the new tiers of gear and the gear treadmill. Well it’s a long time ago and I still don’t see a new tier of gear. So much for the conspiracy theorists.
I was against ascended weapons and armor and I still am. But the day isnt’ going to live on in infamy, Guild Wars 2 has moved on. You haven’t.
Race changes are free but then you pay $50 for all of your new char’s kitten traits though…
I’m a bit confused as to how this is going to work now – if we purchased a commander tag right now (for 100g), do we get the four colours after the patch comes in?
Regardless, it’s good news that the 300g per colour plan was revised!
Unlock the blue commander tag on a single character right now for 100g (plus 250 badges of honor) and after 9-9 when the feature pack is implemented all current and future characters on your entire account will have access to using the commander function, along with the additional colors. Wait to purchase it until after 9-9 and it will instead cost 300g. It is recommended that you unlock it now while it is still at 100g even if you will not have need for the commander feature immediately so you save 200g over waiting until a future date (after 9-9) to purchase it.

It won’t happen. They make too much money for too little effort selling skins in the gem store.
With the recent patch, I was really hoping they would do the right thing to fix this terrible new system. Sadly they didn’t!
You know…..things were going so well before the China release. Makes ya wonder huh!
