New matchmaking seems pretty good. I played some matches with some friends and we won and lost at a near equal amount. All of them were all quite close games regardless of win or lose which was very enjoyable.

Interestingly, all the matches i lost were in unranked queue, while all the matches i won were in ranked queue O.o (was alternating arenas due to queue times)

Question about Air Training

Air Training: Deal 10% more damage in air attunement.

So if i started on Fire attunement, used Dragon’s Tooth and then swapped to air attunement before the dragon tooth lands. Will the Dragon’s tooth benefit from the 10% from air training?

Your suggestion that players should get more points based on what they did would bring the game a step backward and back into the era where points were based off individual score. Under your suggestions, 5 people could cap the same point and get rewarded for it. This is NOT what we want. The idea of Anet to make the game based off win/loss broke this “zerg” mentality up.

The problems in hotjoin (not an exhaustive list) is thus:
1. The winning team gets a substantial amount of points for winning (500) compared to losing (200).
2. There is no incentive to join a losing team in the middle of a match.

Currently as we all seem to agree on is that a match will start with 2 players one on each side. One of the players is rank 80, the other is rank below 20. Another player in spectator (maybe say rank 60) sees this and joins the rank 80’s team creating a 2v1. Now, no one else will want to join the rank 20 team because there is a decent chance of losing and the match already is lopsided in that regard. If someone does join the rank 20 then another player in spectator will join the rank 80 and 60’s team, thus causing an imbalance of 2v3.

I personally like DaveGan’s idea of changing the Win/loss points to something closer to 400/300 as opposed to the current 500/200. This means winning is less important and so people may be less inclined to join the rank 20’s team. Another solution may be to award players who join the losing team bonus points for how many points they help to close up the deficit.

Now, with regard to spectator mode as an imbalance tool:
As mentioned by other users, a stopgap measure to change team stacking would be to make it so that other people can’t see ranks in spectate. While I think this should be implemented, I also think it is a stopgap change. After a few rounds, players will begin to realize who they feel is better and will want to team up with those players again which again leads to team stacking. Changing spectator mode so you can’t see ranks will not remove this issue of heavy team stacking.

Another suggestion I have is that players kitten-enter spectate mode after a match has started should not be able to get any points even if they rejoin. This could help prevent players who try to use autobalance to manipulate wins for points i.e Player 1 goes into spectator to force imbalance, this forces a player from the winning team to be autobalanced to the losing team, Player 1 then joins the winning team to ride for free win points. Re-entering spectator mode should mean you don’t get any points for the game, this would at least mean that it is better to lose to get some points rather then enter spectator and get nothing at the end.

Ultimately though, suggestions to change spectator mode are stopgap solutions. Ideally it would be better to change the team stack mentality at its roots by tackling things like the imbalances in win/loss point ratios.

On a concluding note, it would be a wise decision for anet to invest some time in making hotjoin a more desirable place to play. Hotjoin is likely the first pvp a new player will get. Therefore, for the game to grow Hotjoin is essential in attempting to hook a new player into pvp and get them invested enough to learn new strategies, attribute setups etc (which spectator mode is for).

Please, don’t say new players should just play Solo-queue as there were enough threads whining about imbalanced ranks a while ago.

TLDR:
We should not make points based off individual actions otherwise we will get the old zerg problems where 5 people would try to cap 1 point and not try to win.
Stopgap measures to fix spectator mode would be to hide rank and make re-entering spectator mode disqualify you from earning points.
Ultimately we need to change the problems at the root level which encourages people to team stack and manipulate spectator.

Why is everyone trying to pin the blame of leaking the summit out to Mordremoth on particular NPCs? The summit was not some super secret meeting was it? I mean they had cheering crowds, a procession, plenty of people were watching it could have been any simple civilian?

Why is small scale group stuff called “havoc” in wvwvw?

I get that the term “Zerg” for large scale groups probably originated from StarCraft but where did “havoc” come from??!!

Best way that worked for me is to use the mouse.

Use Hornet’s Sting and then as you are rolling back turn around with your mouse to face the direction you want and then hold both mouse buttons together to force your character to go in that direction and finish off by leaping.
During the time you are moving around with your mouse though you need to find time to click in empty space to deselect your target (or press ESC if you can either one works).

Good luck with practice, it feels great when you finally get it down.

Honestly there isn’t much of a problem. The traps were probably designed against veil zergs like many others in this thread has stated.

If YOU a single lone thief takes an anti stealth trap then EXCELLENT. It saves your team later on from being hit by one of these things and may help out in the grand scheme of things. This may even make a new role for thieves in zergs as minesweepers (teamplay gogo). Furthermore the trade off for dying is a better deal for the thief anyway. You pay maybe 1 silver for repairs. They need to pay 15 badges which is essentially 15 silver and a bit of karma too.

If you are in the open field and maybe 1v1ning a person and they SIT STILL for FOUR seconds to put down an anti stealth trap then it really does become an L2 kitten ue for the thief as you can clearly see where they have put the trap and just avoid it.

Considering that spectating builds is only available in hotjoin i dont see it being an issue. If it were tournament i can at least imagine maybe someone would enter spectator and feed the other team information but for hotjoin no way.

Id like to quote another user on these forums which sums up this ridiculous whining about not being to hide builds.

Education is key to building a competitive PvP community.

Besides, true skill is displayed through excellent performance in gameplay, not through the ignorance of the opponent. There is no reason to keep secrets.

Nighttime Coverage: It’s very aggrivating to completely dominate your tier all day long, but still never manage to get anywhere because from the hours of 2am till noon your server loses every single point because of work/school. After the initial cap, if you’re not actively defending something (because no one is attacking) you really shouldn’t get the same number of points.

I thought people would work out after a few months that everyone has different peak times. It really is childish and selfish to even suggest a system where one persons efforts are worth more than another simply because they don’t play in your peak times or have school/work.

Getting better. Loved the little hints around the place (whispers dead drops) that elude to whats going on and to keep us interested for the next part.

Biggest issue is pacing. While i understand it takes time to make content id rather we have maybe one smaller additional part per week then a big release every month similar to War in Kryta in GW1 (extra missions each week).

Im going to be fair and say that FA (im on FA) have complained about 2v1 for quite a while so its only fair that i guess TC also get to complain about it too.

Something funny (but understandable) is that its mostly either about TC and Kai teaming FA or FA and Kai teaming TC but its very very rarely about FA and TC teaming Kai.

As others have stated there are 3 exits use another one. If they are camping all 3 then their forces are divided and then you should be able to break through one of them. If you dont have enough to break through one side of a divided force then the battle for that borderland is likely lost or you obviously dont have enough to make a meaningful impact anyway (outside of whoring camps) and you should move to another one.

Game Over.

Initially i wanted to have it stay forever but the other posters make a good point. This minigame will prob stop being as fun if it is here forever. I think also a large part of the sucess of the adventure box is due to nostalgia for the old times.

It doesnt seem right for a minigame that invokes so much nostalgia to be available forever.

So as much as i love the adventure box maybe the thing we should take away from this short interlude back to the “good ol days” is that all good things must come to an end

Im not usually one to sing anet’s praises and am usually very critical of them but… HOLY KITTEN they really put a lot of effort into these extra things and god the outcomes are amazing.

I even went to youtube to find the mario theme to play this with (zelda prob fits better).

Please make this permanant it is such an awesome part of the game that it would be a shame if it were only available during april fools

For those who want to play FA and AB I’m setting up a group of people to play every Thursday at 8pm GMT.
Which will happen from this Thursday onwards, we’ll try AB first and if we simply don’t have enough we’re going to FA.

Your character wouldnt happen to be Silven Shadow would it (ranger)?

If the AB idea doesnt work at least we can always play during double weekends haha.

Otherwise GW2 has taught me that having Frenzy+Mending+Bstance is good on a warrior so im gonna go try that in GW1.

I think atm it is 4 gold for 200 gems (approximately) so it would be pretty bad for spvp players (who the custom arenas are really aimed at) to afford consistently over a long period of time

Having said that we may be jumping the gun a bit who knows Anet may surprise us by allowing us to get them via glory or through tourney chests or w/e

They’ve already surprised me as i expected CA to appear in 2016.

Actually i play all classes (except mesmer which im just starting) so i do play a thief and other classes with stealth.

Seriously? This is getting freaking annoying. When someone stealths, the pet should drop targetting, until the owner re-engages and attacks themselves. Pets should not be heatseeking missiles that just lock on to the target after stealth. Fix it, fix it NOW!

TBH this is a really silly topic. You are saying that pets shouldnt attack you unless the owner engages again? You will find that that isnt actually that hard to do as if a thief is going stealth most players will usually spam their closest target button. It isnt a stretch to press f1 after to make the pet attack. I personally have made it a habit to lock my pet on first in any fight i am as a rule of thumb.

Even if you were to Shadow Refuge and get downed, the heat seeking missile (pets) will still start attacking you as soon as SR/any stealth wears off, and now you’re forced to try and kill it, while their owner caps the point.

Considering there isnt any culling in spvp why shouldnt the pet be able to attack you AFTER stealth ends?

After I reappear, even if the owner is halfway across the map.

I also highly doubt you will reappear halfway across the map. You yourself stated you dont cheese like the WvWvW players and go for backstabs. If you dont cheese like them then you are probably aware that stealth doesnt last nearly long enough for you to get significantly far enough in which case player can just get targetting back and proceed as normal.

One day fellow brother our class will reach the hallowed halls of OMG OP NERF ENGI NOW! in a consistent manner (i know it has happened for 100nades but no one complains about our class in general).

why is quickness usable?

What I’d like to know is why the warrior’s quickness skill induces 50% more damage, but none of the other classes do.

Unsure if im reading this as “why does it cause warriors to do 50% more damage” or “why warriors take 50% more damage in frenzy.” My apologies if ive misinterpreted your statement.

If its the former then you are incorrect as frenzy causes wars to TAKE more damage not deal out more damage.

If its the latter then its because other classes also get a drawback on quickness where the warrior’s one is you take 50% more damage. Rangers will not be able to heal in QZ and theives also lose the ability to regen endurance in the time they are in quickness. Each class has its specific drawback when using Frenzy.

Indeed there was 5 people coordinated but the mentality still remained the same. As a Warrior spike caller you still needed to ensure your target died in 2 seconds. While the method was different your mentality was still the same (unless you were playing pressure).

So i ask the question is there a problem in having that mentality to kill someone faster?

What is wrong with the mentality to kill someone faster in pvp? There are many games that have attack speed increases. In gw1 your spikes had to be over in like 2 seconds anyway otherwise a monk could just infuse (burst heal) them back to full and no one complained then. One simple dodge more or less negates most of the time of quickness anyway.

Doesnt need to be nerfed. You can always bring stability/invuln stomp? You can always CC or kill the pet? In tpvp rangers will usually never get their lickwounds off against a half decent team. Most decent players will take a form of stability and just kill you off.

Changes sound ok i guess. Not sure about it being Account bound but i at least see Anet’s reasoning. It will really depend on the specifics of the bonuses you can get from world exp.

To the players complaining about zergfest:
While i understand and agree that this update will probably promote more zerging what is the real problem with zergs? I usually play in a small group and go around capping camps etc etc but really WvWvW is about large scale combat is it not?

As others have stated if you wanted smaller group action you could always spvp?

Lastly (while understanding this will prob derail the thread a bit) what would you do to fix zerging? I hear a lot of players complaining about zerging yet very few actually offer reasonable suggestions.

Reaction time really is just something to be learned and as many have stated just practicing will make it better. In GW1 many classes had to react within milliseconds (Spirit Bond on spike for monk, ranger rupting, etc etc) yet no one complained about the speed of that game. It is definitely however in contrast to many standard mmos where the average cast time is 1.5-2 seconds.

Regardless just practice and you will learn muscle memory to just stunbreak out of the spike or use an antispike skill.

I can’t believe a thread like this was actually made and i’m not sure if were all being trolled or not. That said ill take a bite.

It’s player’s like the OP who give decent thieves a bad name. Too many thief players see Stealth as some all-encompassing escape and as a result don’t pay attention to the field, go rambo mode and expect that stealth will save them. If you didn’t notice say Kill Shot being charged at you and stealth then that’s your fault for not being aware of the field. Thieves already have pretty high mobility and movement so if you aern’t able to get away from that in stealth then something is going wrong.

In regards to the method where one person stands ranged and the others go melee while that does work well it sometimes backfires due to the fact the ranged character will get crystalled and subsequently obliterated by the ice spike. Having said that if the other team members actually watch out for that too you can easily break the crystal but far too often pugs go afk and forget about it completely.

Agent Spire however fulfills this job the best. I believe no player character can tank as well as she can against Alpha :P

There’re no problem with people guiding new players through dungeons. Just mention that it’s your first time in the beginning or ask questions along the way and people should help you.

The problem most people have is if you don’t say anything and you end up not doing what you are supposed to and that causes the team to have problems or wipes.

There are also online guides and youtube videos you can reference before hand if you want to go in with some knowledge, but for the most part people will help if you ask for it in the dungeon team.

Also, GW2LFG.com is the website you want to use to join teams.

Please if you are new just dont be shy and say that you are. Im sure most people would perfer to tell you what is required to beat a certain part then to find out you don’t know what you are doing in the middle and cause a wipe. Had quite a few runs in CoF p1 where one person didnt know to stand in the braizers and it causes quite a headache

CoF Farming perfers high dps so people naturally use warriors. That being said you shouldnt be kicked from any group on any class on any run that is not CoF p1 farm.

Its usually stated its a farm on gw2lfg.com so just dont join them or start your own group.

Unused Fractal Items

Been doing FoTM since they were released and im now filling up with unused rings that i can’t find a purpose for. Please let us salvage the rings for Pristine relics or Shards so that we can find some proper use for the rings.

On another note could we make Fractal Weapons be available via pristine relics or fractal relics? The whole RNG system is silly and i thought one of the reasons Anet added dungeon tokens to dungeons was to eliminate the RNG factor of getting items you need that was present in other games?

Why does Fractals not have a similar system?

Myself and many of the EBG JP portalling mesmers I’ve known prefer to work together with their opponent servers’ mesmers so that everyone can benefit without worrying about being severely murdered without warning.

What more warning could you want besides the enemy showing up in red? I don’t understand why people don’t expect to be attacked in a JP which is pretty clearly designed for ambush and is in a PvP area.

May sound extreme but id go as far as saying to remove badges of honor from the JP completely. That way there will be no question that you actually have to do WvWvW. Most of the complaining about the JP from PvErs is simply because it seems to them the best way to get badges with little effort and so they feel inclined to complain about it when they get attacked. If badges were removed then all the PvErs wouldn’t even go to the JP and there would prob be less complaints about the JP in general (although likely more at being “forced” to do WvWvW).

While i understand some people just do not like doing WvWvW for w/e reason i will reiterate on what many have said in this thread and that is that Legendaries are supposed to show mastery at ALL levels of the game. You shouldn’t feel entitled that you can skip a part of the game simply because you don’t like it.

On an offhanded suggestion to the OP is why don’t you try to PvP in the JP with some friends? You yourself suggested that PvP players have a better “gear of mind” which also helps in other areas of the game so maybe you could take this time to become a better player? who knows you may be able to get revenge on those dirty campers its certainly a satisfying feeling.

Its fair enough if you don’t enjoy it but why not give it a try? hell you may end up liking it O.o

The jumping puzzle is just another fun place have some pvp. Fighting in the jumping puzzle requires more tactical thinking and is an enjoyable place to get more fights when your bored of zerg action.

I feel more strongly however towards the argument of why it shouldn’t be neutral ground.

The OP has stated that he only does the JP for Badges for his legendary and has no interest in WvWvW. However, Legendaries were designed with the intent that you had to do WvWvW and in my opinion making the JP a neutral ground would just allow people to avoid this area of the legendary.

You can say that you are simply not interested in WvWvW but again legendaries were designed that you needed to do WvWvW and were designed to show mastery in all areas of GW2. What about a WvWvW player who doesn’t have any interest in PvE and Dungeons? Would you let them just simply walk through and not be attacked by the NPC’s? You don’t see many threads of WvWvW players complaining that they shouldn’t be attacked in Dungeons so why do PvE players (or players who have no interest in WvWvW) complain about being attacked in WvWvW? It would ultimately simply be unfair that PvErs get a free pass from part of the content of making a legendary but WvWvW players don’t.

In response to the OP above saying players in WvWvW should be better geared to do PvE (i dont know how to use the quote function). How is that possible? PvE players should be able to get exotics and ascended way easier then WvWvW players with the latter not even being available in WvWvW as of yet.

I would go as far to say that tank armors are completely useless in this dungeons since alpha will one shot you most days anyway if you cant make the dodge.

Key for dodge really is as simple as 1, 2 dodge. The dungeon is a lot easier after this dodge has been mastered and if all classes take some sort of Vigor skill or vigor like skills or traits.

Its also easier if people stack on alpha also because then if someone gets crystal (which causes most of the deaths due to unable to dodge while frozen) you can simply melee and break it fast. If someone does go down it is imperative everyone stop what they are doing and rez him up straight away. You should always be keeping an eye out on your allies health bars anyway.
