The launcher image is much more fleshed out compared to the previous ones. It sounds like you are just not a fan of the color palette.

Personally I always liked GW2 art and the PoF launcher looks better then the previous ones.

My only gripe with it is its position when its launched. It sits vertically lower on the screen instead of center screen like the previous ones. Visually that part doesn’t feel right.

A lot of people are missing the point OP was trying to make. It’s not a matter of having a shortcut to get rewards. The suggestion he posted forgoes all rewards from zones as well as World completion. Meaning that while you get all vistas, poi’s hearts and waypoints unlocked you get absolutely nothing for it. No gifts of explorations, no Hot zone completion gifts.

I made a very similar post arguing this very point. I have three characters who have 100% map completions. That third time was a drag and I tried ignoring it, but by the time I was 80 seeing areas incomplete after finishing the core and HoT stories it drove me up the wall. So i forced myself to finish those zones reluctantly.

I am now working on a necro because the Scourge looks like an interesting profession to play. Compared to my first map completion which took 3 days my necro is at 56% map completion after a week and a half of grinding him through the zones. IT just gets too boring and irritating when your character slows down when entering combat when you’re trying to run past and explore.

I wish there were more body types in GW2

I didn’t intend to offend anyone with what I said. I tend to basically say how things are which I know that it can offend some people even if I don’t intend it too. I am not against having more variety in body options. I was just stating that when I come across a lack of body options I try to attribute it as an attempt by the developer to try and be somewhat realistic.

As much as I hate to admit it I was on the heftier side myself for a good majority of my life until 5 years ago. So when I made the comment that I made it was truly from self experience. I fully understand that people’s bodies can behave differently and that some may look fitter then others while others may not look fit but actually are. The principle however doesn’t change as much as people try to argue it. If a body moves enough it will change accordingly regardless.

In your example even if a mage or an engineer spends a good amount of time sitting around in a world like guild wars where physical movement and combat is a daily necessity for basic survival it would keep them in decent shape still.

I agree that there is no real excuse beyond technical / budget limitations that more varied body types should not be available for players in a game with with dragons, golems, magic and such. In the end it’s up to the developers in how they want to portray the characters in their game.

I understand how some may feel that not having “full” figure options for characters can be disappointing. However I always felt that when an option like that isn’t available I think of it as an attempt at realism.

You are playing a game in a universe where there is constant fighting, lots of walking/running, jumping and dodging. Basically constant daily workouts in a way. A person’s body wouldn’t be full figured if they did the aforementioned on a daily basis as the very actions you do in a game would realistically work to slim the body. So it wouldn’t make sense that way.

Unless you throw logic and any notion of attempted realism out the window then yea sure why not? Another big problem is the one onevstheworld mentioned about the armor and meshes, not to mention the clipping issues.

Completing the map has nothing to do with the elite specs and leveling. It’s one of those things that some people don’t care for and some do.

I fall in the group of people who feel the need to complete the map regardless of the 2 gifts and rewards. Be it due to being a completionist or some one like myself who can’t stand being playing a lvl 80 toon that doesn’t have all zones cleared.

So PoF is releasing in about a month and new elite specs are coming. With the way the elite specs are introduced and how it changes each class it made me realize that as the game evolves and new expansions come out with new content. Each class may get that specialization that plays just the way you as a player want it to play. For me I had my eyes set on the Spellbreaker and Scourge, but settled on leveling a new necro by the time PoF comes out (way too many warriors for my liking to start one as well).

The issue is, clearing the map for the 4th time is excruciatingly mind-numbing. Some people enjoy it and I did too the first two times I did it (guard then rev). By the 3rd time (engi) I almost couldn’t do it, but not having the map completed irritated me to no end that I ended up grinding away at it on my engi.

What I’m trying to get at is what if there was an option to unlock the core map completion after meeting a set requirement. Maybe something like this:

1. You need to have already completed it with 2-3 other characters.
2. Before unlocking it on the character they need to be lvl 80.
3. It only unlocks the core game zones. Or it only unlocks the core non-lvl-80 zones.
4. This is optional if the requirements are met, but doing so removes all potential rewards that would have been earned from completing each zone along with not receiving the 2 gifts of exploration.
5. Only unlocks the map, the story must still be followed in order.

As expansions and living stories come they will expand the map open new zones continually. This means that as the game grows the amount of time investing in exploring the map increases.

Not everyone has all professions to 80 and some may want to reroll for a race change or because the new e-spec that you happen to drool over that was introduced is for a profession you currently don’t have.

Thoughts on Guardian

I am not sure if its culmination of all the changes that happened over the years, but playing my guardian it feel…weak…. Specifically the survivability as a guardian feels almost non-existent.

I played guard since release and the profession’s lore and design was a major contributing factor that lured me to the profession (coming as a GW1 veteran). A warrior that uses magic and light to support his allies and is able to survive. Although I hate the scepter and don’t see how it fits at all to the guard and I think staff should have been a long-mid range dmg/support wep, Battlemage anyone?

Over the years playing guard and encountering all different types of scenarios in the game it would seem that the profession no longer feels and plays as solidly as it did back then. For the past few month’s I’ve been trying to utilize different utility skills, but with spirit weapons being useless and the signet builds being utterly boring to me the choices of finding a good combination of skills that provide, good utility is rather short. other skills while they sound great are not practical like sanctuary and both Interventions requiring a target.

Dragonhunter added a longbow which was a godsent alternative to the scepter for me, but the trap skills are better used with melee weapons which kinda breaks the concept of using a bow and traps as a guard that the elite spec introduced.

Maybe it’s just me, but guard feels a bit “off” from its concept and role.

Just curious what the thought is on running viper armor with scrapper runes and berserker trinkets and backpack for a scrapper engi.

I’m in the process of painfully making yassiths via stat changing and to switch to a p/p condi build, but wondered if the viper + zerker stat setup would still work running hammer for non raid pve, spvp and WvW content.

Charr, Asura and Engi armor/gear (A bit long)

Revan.2015

tldr: (This is just a thought post) More armor designs that fit the Charr and Asura models could potentially encourage more racial diversity in the game. Also, racial engineer kits at least for Asuras

I’m writing this up as I’ve been playing this game on and off after the first year and during those periods I’ve noticed a decline in in non-human races. I believe we can agree that people relate more to more human-like characters like Sylvari, Norns and you know… humans. Also those of us who have played GW1 are also more inclined to play human characters as well. I also believe that aesthetics contribute to this trend as most gear simply looks better on human-like races. For Asura there is the armor details issue and for the Charr there are very few armors that look aesthetically pleasing as compared to the human equivalent.

I understand that Anet kinda cornered themselves with some of the design aspects in the game (ehm…chairs…) by having races that are quite different model wise. I have a human guardian (main), revenant(main) and mesmer and one asura ele, norn warrior, sylvari ranger and charr engineer that I love to play, but can’t get around the lack of aesthetically pleasing charr gear and superman gliding animation. I’ve been rocking the rubicon set with the scrapper helm, tool kit backpiece and a giant wrench for the longest time because of this. I like the whole engineer look (screenshot) and practical looking gear in general that fits for a class (which is severely lacking).

It would be neat if more armors were introduced that worked better for the Asura and Charr races instead of stretching armor models to work for them. I noticed for Charr any coat that’s not full-length tends to look a bit silly like a skirt… Take the Mad Scientist outfit for example, it’s a longcoat on humans but a skirt on Charrs. This is true for nearly all armor pieces in that category.

On a side note it would be really neat if enigneer kits reflected the racial designs. Lets face it Asuras with wood and iron turrets etc instead of magi-tech like kits is a bit strange no? (Just a thought)

Anyway I believe that if armor designs were designed first with non-human races in mind to work better with them it could encourage more racial diversity in-game.

Expansion - Hard to obtain equipment variety

Does it bother anyone else how there is a single legendary sword available (Bolt)? Or that ascended armor has a single look to it for each armor class heavy/medium/light?

What Anet did great was the inclusion of having Sunrise and Twilight in the game at the beginning. Both are greatswords that were highly sought after at the time, but it presented people with an option. Do I want the gold shiny one or do I want the dark glittery one?

HoT brought a few more legendaryies to expand on the variety pool for this tier which is great.

Personally it would be nice to see more options and choices be introduced in the future. Instead of having a single set of ascended armor be introduced, have two instead for each armor class. The same would go for other items that are currently the only one of its kind Bolt, or Eternity, or the Legendary armor that will be introduced.

This way the players can have the choice of pursuing different paths with end-game content.

So yesterday I completed vol. 1 for bolt and got the recipe and component on my Revenant. However my Guardian is the one with the lvl 500 weaponsmithing.

Can I transfer the recipe and component over to him to craft the item then transfer it back to my revenant to continue the crafting line or do I have to lvl up weaponsmithing on the revenant?

Guardian vs Revenant

Returning player here.

Anyone able to tell me where these two classes stand in the current meta? I am trying to figure out which one to play, but am having a hard time.

My guardian is nearly 100% decked out in ascended gear along with a Sunrise (which I got right before finding out the Revenant can’t use GS…), while my Revenant is running only with 4 ascended accessories and Glint’s Bastion, but had a great time playing him.

I don’t play as much as I used to so a grind to collect a second set of ascended gear for my Revenant is a bit discouraging.

So I guess my question is: In the current state of the game which of these two is more versatile in pvp/pve/raid scene.

Thanks in advance

So I finally got my engineer to 80 after he sat around at lvl 48 for more than a year. I main a guardian and spent most of my pve/pvp time on him, but always found the engi play-style more… fun. Except that it always felt weak for some reason.

That is until I decided to play again after a break and with all the changes that have happened I’m enjoying it even more so now.

My question is what are some effective builds for pve as well pvp. If anyone has any builds that can be easily altered based on what you’re doing would be great.

Fissure of Woe and Underworld?

Seeing as ANet have gone all, “only if it fits with the story” about adding things, like people asking for sab while we wait for HoT, and ANet saying “No, it would not fit with the flow of the story.”. I’d not get my hopes up. I too have been waiting since I found what was left of ToA to go back to UW and FoW.

There is so much in this game that references GW1 it’s a shame that most of it is no longer accessible at all like the those memorable areas. It would have been awesome if they had made plans to keep Cantha and Elona within the game as they were in part part of GW1. How cool would it have been to travel to all three regions within GW2 and see what 250 years of change has done to those regions?

As many GW1 veterans remember these two areas were accessible through the Balthazar and Grenth Statues at the Temple of the Ages.

With the Shadow Behemoth being a creature of the underworld is it safe to say that we could expect the return of these two regions at some point?

I’m just having a bit of nostalgia from reading some GW1 references and it got me wondering.

Hello,

I’ve recently started playing GW2 again after a decent break and saw that the trait system was completely overhauled. I’m curious where each profession stands with the changes now in pve and pvp and what builds are currently actively favored?

I was hoping some of the experienced and well informed individuals are able to give me a quick rundown of things?

Thanks!

Revan.2015

I am considering starting a new character since I’ve played the living crap out of my Guardian since the 3-day head start. Well, that and the fact that my 2,000+ attempts at crafting Dawn or having it drop from supposed chests as well as burning through 400-500+ Ectos and Obsidian shards only to yield 55 mystic clovers have left me crying on my keyboard….. ehrm… ANYWAY…

I did level an Ele to 37, Engineer to 38, as well as a War and Necro to 21. I’ve decided against further leveling my ele, necro and warrior. I am torn however between further leveling my Engineer, starting a mesmer or a thief.

So, my question for you folks is, which of the three would be most versatile in combat at 80(pve and pvp), and which would I least regret grinding through the early content again for the 12th time?

Thanks

Revan.2015

I started doing WvWvW more for the past two weeks to get some badges for the Gift of Battle since I’m nearing the point of having all the basic mats needed for a legendary.

Problem is badges are simpy not dropping for me even after hours in WvWvW. I’ve been doing WvWvW with my guild and even though I get anywhere from 150-400 kills I barely get any badges. A good example of this was three days ago, we went into wvw at around 8pm and got out at around 11pm. 460 something kills later and 3 hours in WvWvW I managed to get 5 badges.

Yes….5 badges…… Is it really that random of a drop? On the other hand my guildies have been reporting anywhere from 60-145 badges in less time and less kills. How does this work?

I’ve read somewhere in another thread that guardians(which is what i’m running) have a hard time getting badges. If so will this be fixed?

At the moment i’m just doing the jumping puzzles each day for 16 badges since i can spend less time on it and get more badges then run around WvW for hours killing hundreds of ppl getting barely any.

if the Auto attack had some form of chain to it to maybe it wouldn’t be as boring. Maybe cranking the base dmg by just a few points will also add to the viability to it since without spamming Smite like a maniac it doesn’t do enough dmg to be actually damaging when getting hit by it.

It’s understandable that some feel a lack of change in these events. You have to understand that GW2 is the first of it’s kind with incorporating Dynamic events to such a massive scale. Maybe Anet is testing what the Dynamic system is capable off and have more plans for improving it in the coming content.

I’m just glad that there are events/quests you can still find to do at your difficulty even after hitting max lvl unlike any other MMO I’ve played. You can either choose to do them or not, it’s your choice.

I played WoW since the days of World of RougeCraft until BC and then on and off through lich king and cata.

The game has always been broken. Vanilla wow was broken, but it was fun. BC ruined the whole game and every expansion afterwards put another nail in the coffin.

The PvP is literally unfixable. you can’t ever hope to compete in arenas unless you spend the next 2-3 years grinding badges for gear that will become outdated by the time you have enough.

Not to mention the ridiculous gear dependency which basically nullifies any personal skill and forces everyone to run the same build in which the victor is decided by who has wasted more money and time getting armor that has 1-2 more stats.

I can easily turn this into a book just from my personal experience, but to end it i’m just gonna throw out that 15/mo is not worth any of the content, pvp or pve, as well as the low graphical quality and horrendous sounds and lastly the brutally agonizing grind to max lvl just to find that no one wants you because you don’t play enough to be of use.

Gw2 has been out barely 4 weeks, and if you have played GW1 you will know there will be an good amount of content added.

The best way I can think of maxing both dps and survivability is to go 30 Zeal for GS and 30 Valor for Toughness and then dump the last 10 into Honor.

As for gear you can either capitalize on these traits or stack whatever else you find you might need, vitality, precision, etc…

A good combination I found with weapons is the GS and Mace/Shield. One will give you the best in dps and the other the best in survivability. With the Valor trait you have the option of getting +90 toughness if you wield a shield and have 5% toughness be transferred to precision for crits.

But, like some have already mentioned if you enjoy playing your engineer more then it’s up to you if you want to invest time on your guardian or play what you enjoy.

Kind of regretting the Guardian since 80

I feel you man, I noticed a slight increase in getting downed when doing 80 dungeons. I did find a way to alleviate some of the stress tho. If you want to push dps and such and still survive try cross stat stacking. Armor for dps and traits for defense or other way around. Also the Superior Guardian runes give a great amount of toughness with heals. I myself run the Valkyric Draconic set with 6 Superior runes of the Guardian.

I am specced into 20 valor 20 honor and 30 virtues. It gives me a solid defensive basis and the Virtue traits allow for some really nice retaliation. Which helps in dps and works miracles in pvp.

In the long run I learned that the amount of dps is irrelevant if you can’t stay alive long enough to actually dish it out.

Guardian stats/weapon sets

in Guardian

Revan.2015

Greatsword is power oriented with slight benefit from precision. Sword is Precision oriented and adding a torch just adds slightly more dps to wielding a sword.

If you want to go with this build push Zeal for dmg and Radiance for increased crit chance.

Depending which you want to use more use your traits accordingly, for Greatsword 30 in zeal. for sword/torch go 30 radiance.

Note that this build is mainly focused on dishing out dps. I would suggest dumping the rest of your trait points into valor to at least increase your base armor when fighting in melee range.

As for armor stats it depends what you want to play more, GS or S/T power/precision with +crit stats and such.

Hope this helps a bit.

From the limited experience I’ve had with the Engineer, is that it’s basically a glass cannon by default. It’s extremely good at being a supporter, but it simply cannot tank as far as I’ve seen.

Try going Pistol/shield with a defensive trait set and pushing Vit/tough. My buddy rolled an Engineer with this build and he is loving it. According to him it’s pretty hard to get killed especially with magnetic shield against ranged classes.

Why do necros get nearly double our base health?

in Elementalist

Posted by: Revan.2015

Revan.2015

Just wanted to point out a few things to clear the fog.

Regarding the health on necros, they need it. Why? because their damage is done mainly over time. When engaging a warrior or any class for that matter they can’t burst dmg effectively. Not to mention all the conditions they can apply to themselves. Health in general only helps with dmg over time not much else. they have to be able to do some amount of damage at least before the gap closes.

I don’t know why ranger was brought up here, but you have to understand that they are mainly ranged fighters. That said, if they let an enemy get too close to them it’s pretty much GG. I know this from firsthand experience playing my Guardian against them. Unless, they wep swap to melee weapons which doesn’t happen too often.

As for your other classes are easier to play comment. Please understand that if you feel that your class is hard to play maybe it’s not right for you. Some players just have an easier time playing a certain way and maybe ele isn’t for you. Or, you’re just saying that because you have never spend at least a proper amount on any other class to see that they play relatively at the same difficulty.
