Same as posei.9248.
The update has now rendered the client non-responsive after all the tips given on repair etc. still no joy.
Put in a ticket 2210394: Client will not launch, and still nothing from Anet.
Clearly they don’t want my money that I spend in game…this is not good for the brand, not good at all.
Has anyone had an issue with client fail to launch?
Worked fine before patch.
I have, run repair and no joy.
Opened the client, using repair, last night before bed and still didn’t open by this morning, 8 hrs later..
Any help would be appreciated.
I am running Mac client.
One guy in here said he is frustrated at being at 161 Mastery Points (MP’s), well I am stuck on 16 and I have very little interest (at this point) in doing most of what the “game” insists you need to do to get a point to unlock whatever. I for one have simply stopped looking to get mastery points altogether, I can glide (on the few accessions I am in the HoT zone), I can jump using the mushrooms and buy stuff off the locked vendors, after that I have lost interest, if I happen to get one while playing the game as I enjoy it. so be it.
To have the dev’s tell us(me) that to get MP’s you need to do, and look at all their work with regards to story or jumping challenges or what have you so they then can reward you with an MP, what are you (they) twelve??? Look at what I did with this game mummy….
Sand box in relation to MP’s would have been better, make the points mean something, get points for helping other players that unlocks bonus material for those who help. Or, if you love PvP MP’s are then spent in a PvP line to make it so you have better support capabilities in WvW ( I don’t know, sticky care bear player myself) or if you enjoy crafting and cooking have it so you can sell (once a day) direct to the public at a food stand in you home instance. But to have points relating to nothing to lock xp progression behind time sink activities that have nothing to do with the core game that gives everyone who completes the same stuff is, well, BS.
IMO the only thing good that came out of the expansion was the elite professions, the rest is poodle faking, time sinking busy work to keep you distracted from the fact they have run out of ideas on how to entertain you (us). Also why have the MP’s displayed? Is it so the elite can show us theirs is bigger than mine? Well good for you.
If we are talking punishment, the new HoT zone and Hero Points, if not gated then it is hard as ’ell to get to or kill the boss guarding it and if that not enough to get the mastery point you need the skills they give you to get them??? Wot O.o
Now I must admit I am not a fan of (not so) HoT (to date) I tried getting around the map, only issue is I have no clue where, when and what is what, you turn left to head towards a point only to be turned around and end up in a pit of ninja assassins who kill you in a blink and they are so close together (with lag) you’re pined and defeated b4 you can say wot the kitten…
I get the need for challenge but lets make the difficulty a little like Orr, delete Dry Top all together and start that again, and for the I want good stuff and hard game play, create group events to help them get their fix and not make GW2 a WoW clone of mod stashing mind numbing knuckle busting time sinking kitten fudge, give some fun in the grind is all I am saying..
(edited by Rex.6954)
I, as a recently new player and purchaser, would say No. Wait about 6 months and see if they’ve fixed any of the conversions to a WoW clone they’ve made.
Agreed, that is why I like GW2 it was not WoW. Even auction prices for basic stuff has gone gold grab crazy.
I see WoW players everywhere, they think they are GW2 players but they’re not, they are WoW players who don’t know it yet….
Depends on what you enjoyed doing in-game. There’s a lot of topics discussing everything in detail but generally..
Dungeons are dead due to nerfs.
Fractals are a lot easier and less time consuming.
Raids are tough as kitten but have received favourable reviews
WvW has been neglected.
SPvP is a little tumultous but still fun
Core Tyria is still fairly active. You can get top tier crafting mats by completing open world events which is nice.Overall they’ve added a little to the core game but also taken some critical stuff out as well.
The new content is hit-or-miss. If you enjoy challenges and large scale events then Maguuma is definitely the place for you. If you just want to cruise around, taking in the sights, occasionally gathering at a node or two you’re probably going to have a bad time. As a thief you will probably love the Daredevil Elite Spec though. Only takes a couple hours at most in the new maps to get enough hero points to max it out.
Honestly, it’s a relatively small price to pay so I’d say go for it.
Well I paid $140Aus and I question the value for the few hours grind to max elite profession, that’s not so HoT. Even $70Aus for the basic pack is over priced in my opinion.
And the mastery system that gave you credit for core (old) content so you could grind XP and quickly get gliding and jumping mushroom etc this will make the new area much simpler and easier to navigate, so if you had max everything before HoT, with stacks of boosters, you’ll do fine.. wait did I say before HoT, wait a minute, wasn’t this meant to be knew content???
Yet I did (pay $140Aus) and I am sad I did, wish I could get my money back, but I can’t so; meh!
I’m genuinely getting more and more baffled by the complaints on this forum.
You can’t expect content to be balanced around 2-3 person guilds. That doesn’t even qualify as a full party!
The game type should clue you in… Massivley-Multiplayer-Online.
If you can’t stand the rest of the community to thebpointbyou have hamstring your enjoyment of the game… Well, that’s your issue and not Anets.
And for the love of Dhuum. Does ever single tiny tangential complaint need a new thread?! This forum is already hard enough to navigate without “I’m quitting HOT because X” thread number 9000.
You should all start an anti hot support group guild, then you will have plenty of people to get a guild hall.
/rant
It is called an MMO because of the fact lots of people from all over can play at the same time in a “living world”.
But pushing people into big guilds can also have a negative effects, like only the officers and high level guild members get the top stuff and access to what have you, then they don’t tell you how to get up the rankings and if you do the I believe the GM can simply demote you anyway. This can all be offset by, does this guild support my play style and offer support to it if I need help or will they just pay me out then stop responding to my requests and questions as they are up to their armpits whit what ever they are doing.
Then there is the guild coded talk, only people who were there at the time understand.
These are just some of the reasons that some players shy away from big guilds and would like to have their own for them and a few close friends. This more common than you may realise, so stop picking on the little guy.
And lets face it, if everyone who played MMO’s had the skills to survive in highly complex social situations, they probably would not be playing an MMO in the first place….
As my work required personality test pointed out… being able to function in social situations and liking it are two completely different things.
I agree..
As my work involves working with people who have issue with social environments and anxiety, I too understand your point, yet I do believe the point of an effective MMO is to make as many people comfortable in game as possible, it would seem that, in this case, Anet is trying to be that guy/girl who always tries to get you going out with people you simply don’t get along with then tells you if you can’t do this then we will no longer be friends..
I have read a few of the posts in different parts of this Forum and I get the impression that this is an attempt to pander to the elite players concerns regarding difficulty and related challenges along with endgame content, well on a different thread I put this out to air;
A point to finish on, elites players by designed and definition are in the minority because if they weren’t then they wouldn’t be elites, so the majority of players are more casual, now, if the developers are creating game play to make the elite, hard core players happy, then they are pandering to the vocal minority and not the silent majority.
What do you think.
(edited by Rex.6954)
You are just way off base.
The problem is that small guilds had everything they ALREADY HAD EARNED taken away and put behind massive grind / pay walls that only a large guild can afford.
Guild halls are another issue to be sure. But the theft by ANET of all the work done already is total BS.
Agreed, and for players like me who hear and don’t understand some time what is being said as it’s over my head, I just go, well everyone seems keen to see this, so must be good. Then on launch (or just after) are kittens, that’s kitten they took or I didn’t know I would lose…. so you come on here and have your say, just to be heard, then someone responds in the exact talk I just said I didn’t understand saying well they said they would do that so what are you complaining about.
I was just saying I was not happy with my guild loosing what it had and now I can’t see what a real guild hall looks like without destroying all I worked for as a small three man guild……
Just spit balling here, why not make it so there is more than just the Arenanet’s it’s our way or no way. Have a similar guild system for the small guild that give reasonable rewards and keep the small guy happy, it want hurt the big end of the guildtown, just saying; Try thinking that is inside the sandbox and leave the core, that I would say most players liked, alone.

Masterys are one time job. It’s account bound. I did Tomé a elementalist to 80 2 days ago. It took me with around 1-2 hours tp get elite spec. It’s only 25 HP u need to tskr. Very easy solo IF u do The easy one on each map. And it’s fun aswell. You can even take it slow and earn some exp ön your way. I have 4 elite spec full unlocked. And im 4-2-4-2 in masterys. Not a single grind for me. Just run around dö event when i pass by, and do HP
Really, you had only 25 HP’s to get elite spec after launch of (not so) HoT, I have over half left and who knows how long that will take as I can’t get past most of the mobs and gates in HoT to finish them. Don’t have enough left in core areas to finish elite so, not sure really…
I simply want to play the story, I can’t, it’s gated by masteries. :p
If you want to play a game where you’re allowed to set your own rules, perhaps a board game? Monopoly? Screw the rules…you can make Mayfair cost the same as Old Kent Road if you want. Maybe go around the board in the wrong direction so that it wasn’t as grindy to get the higher value properties.
This game has to try to cater to so many types of individuals. I don’t like Raids, so other than an occasional trip in with my Guild, I can’t see myself grinding them out each night. This’ll mean I likely never get Legendary Armour. That’s fine. PvPers hate it in PvE. WvWers are bitter about every other game mode. …and everyone, everyone complains when they “have to” go into game modes they don’t enjoy to get rewards they
wantfeel they are owed “because they paid money for the game”.
First off, a little condescending don’t you think? Also, having only one path to get to the same or similar point is simply bad design and lazy. As in life there is more than one way to do something, in (not so) HoT however it is this one way our your out of luck, so yeah if you pay $140 Aus for a game (as I did) you would expect a little more flexibility, and take it easy and have fun, it’s a game.
As an interested observer, this is my concern, also. The meta events may be possible at certain times of the day with a dedicated group using the LFG system to bring interested parties into that shard. That’s cold comfort to those who play at odd hours for their region. One-and-done objectives like HC’s, on the other hand, may become a real problem for some players.
Sure, When I get on most of the maps are dead, I have also noticed that now the dash for masteries and elite professions are over there is not much there to help the newer slower to level players…
GW2 is an MMO RPG, which stands for Massive MUTPIPLAYER Online RPG.
If you want to do everything solo, go play a solo RPG.
The HoT maps are fine. Either group up or get better at the game.
No, they are not
Getting a group or getting better at a game does not, in any way, help you with the sync-times maps. When you playtime is from 19:00 – 20:30 of your local time and it just happens that DS is 1:20 hours left on the map … you’ve lost. Taxi maps are full and you won’t get DS started with 1:20 left. Grouping? Doesn’t help. Getting better? Doesn’t help. Hey, let the kids rot in school and let wifey rot at her workplace and … yes, THAT helps, now we can enter the map when it has just started and get a taxi ….
HoT has A LOT of bad design choices … (like locked adventures – with a fixed timeframe when you can play you can get VERY unlucky and arrive 10 minutes before nightfall and then you have 10 minutes to get to the adventure and play it maybe once before it is locked again) … none of those have anything to do with how good you are or if you play solo or not. It’s those “well, I can play 6h a day” types that have no issue with that because they can catch multiple cycles per map. For those with 1 – 2 hours gametime and that usually in a fixed window HoT has nothing much to offer and this will show in the coming weeks and months when people will struggle to fill even one map via taxi.
And you’re saying your schedule is so set in stone that you can’t play an hour later?
Even if that’s the case, that is your problem.
Many things in MMOs take a lot of time. It’s the nature of the genre.
I mean what solution would you propose? Turn DS into a 10 minute cakewalk? That would be hella boring and ruin it for the rest of us.
Your air-tight schedule isn’t Anet’s problem and I’m sorry, but I don’t want them to drasticly change the game to pander to people like you cause that would ruin it for the rest of us.
It’s not just “my” problem, believe me. Let’s see how many people with that kind of regulated life are out there and how many have fun with HoT. From my point of view and what I see in my guild … like 80% are no longer doing HoT and about 20% still do it – but they do raids and hardly anything else in HoT.
Ever been to Dry Top lately?
I agree, (no so) HoT was not a good investment for me, if I could, I would ask for a refund and go back to GW2 core and continue having fun without the HoT.
Please just stop labeling yourselves as casuals.
A casual player doesn’t have or doesn’t want to constantly invest time in a game. You, on the other hand, are bad at the game – not casual. This is the biggest bullkitten I’ve ever seen. What gives you the right to demand a nerf in ANY game? Do you see posts on Fallout 4 demanding to nerf the game? Of course not, because that would be kittened. You know why it would be stupid? Because that’s how it was advertised.
The content was advertised at challenging – they said it is going to be more challenging than anything else in the game, they said that numerous times. Many of us bought the expansion exactly for that, don’t kitten up our experience with your nerf posts.
You can overcome anything with the help of mapchat, guilds, friends, lfg, or even random people in the area. But if something gets nerfed and is too easy for us, we don’t have any options, just facerolling like through the rest of Tyria. There is tankier gear and countless guides – it’s your fault for not TRYING at least to adapt.
I swear to God, this community wants to be spoonfed.
I for one got it because it looked cool, didn’t read or see much about the actual content, just thought it would be fun….
Well I don’t want to be spoon fed, I do want to be able to understand what the kittens is going on and how to get the best from the game.
I am a casual player, will spend 30min maybe an hour two three times a day, so (not so) HoT was a waisted investment for me and I wish I had stayed with GW2 core game.
The issue as I see it is that you (and elite players), and I am guessing here, play Fallout style games and enjoy the hard core play style, now as I understand it GW2 has never been that, but I am getting the impression that is what it will become to apiece people who want that (harder style) gameplay and alienate care bear players like myself, and that’s fine if it no longer floats my boat I will take my cash to another game, no problem.
A point to finish on, elites players by designed and definition are in the minority because if they weren’t then they wouldn’t be elites, so the majority of players are more casual, now, if the developers are creating game play to make the elite, hard core players happy, then they are pandering to the vocal minority and not the silent majority.
Give that some thought…
(edited by Rex.6954)
I think the main issue for casual players is that there’s no way to get zone rewards unless you stay 2+ hours in a map. Which is fine for ‘those who have no lives’, but many of my guild mates have things limited time. Some have to travel far to and from work, some rather like spending time with wife/husband and kids, some just have THAT kind of job. And for people like that, two consecutive hours is a very long time.
Add to this the pain of HAVING to group for a lot of things, when 70% of them prefer pottering about solo, and you have some pretty irritated people right now.
All I can see is that this is a LONG way removed from the casual friendly game this used to be.
I (also) enjoy the casual core game play, and spending that much time waiting on timers and grouping is a frustration I just can’t put into words.
Not to mention the health issue, you can get DVT’s from sitting that long, that can kill you dead.
I found the $140 Aus for the top of the line expansion was not a good investment as I simply can’t get what’s needed to finish my elite profession and get anything worth a knob of butter in regards to masteries…. At the moment I can run fast in a city and wield a staff, but that is about all, not what I thought (not so) HoT had to offer…
I think the issue Ardenwolfe was arguing about is that while the events can be done in small groups, you cannot cannot reliably progress the map meta. For all four maps, you need a full map.
There’s also a limitation as you only have so much time to work towards the map meta before your progress gets reset via a final map meta (nightfall, gerent, defend tarir) or an entire map reset (DB). Players with limited, or fragmented, play schedules can never participate in the entire meta and are often times unable to join maps as they are full.
It’s less about being able to do events and more to do about wanting to participate with other players while progressing the meta in a meaningful way.
Well said, I am one of the above mentioned players, causal fun has now become hard core time management, neglect the pets game play. Not what I expected from (not so) HoT.
So I finally went into the new expansion. This Map is WAY to hard core for me, as a casual player. Every Hero Point is a freaking champ? Really The whole thing is simply confusing, and its hard to find anything.
So its impossible to really wonder around alone, no way you can snag a lot of the Hero Points alone, and good luck finding a lot of them.
In my humble opinion, the whole expansion needs one serious nerf. Leave the hero points at 10 points, turn them into vets, calm down all the freaking mobs, let us casual players enjoy the game, and do so alone. No fun if you have to spend all your time running for your life, instead of enjoying the game, exploring the map, and checking out the fun stuff.
I have read a number of posts regarding, how hard or how confusing HoT is, and as a non-elite/hard core/do this kitten all day everyday with top gear and eye hand co-ordination guru with the latest gaming mouse and mechanical key board GW2 Veteran, also find it an issue.
I don’t think a nerf, as much as a rethink..
Most of the time I get to an area only to find I need mastery in “what ever” and can’t get to or do anything worth while. overall I regret buy the expansion (wonder if I can get my money back?), I will call it ‘not so HoT’…
3/10
3 only because enjoy Revenant in core area. HoT map not hard skill like many say but just annoy with so many trash mob can not enjoy explore. Some say HoT PvE for challenge but not really. Just endless trash mob can not stop to enjoy or explore map in endless jump puzzle. I try over and over for many hour. I will never go back to HoT map any more because one huge jump puzzle with glide thing and trash mob all over. Feel like it was person that made SAB also make HoT map and make as annoy as possible. Wish never bought HoT.
So 3 point because I have Revenant. I hate HoT map not because hard but because no stop trash garbage mix with jump puzzle.
I will not ever buy next expansion until I see how work. I learn my lesson.
I agree 3/10, your getting hit by mobs so often, unless your in an area with other players, you can’t enjoy the map and what it has to offer as well as getting lost or falling to your death to get a hero or mastery point.
I also wish I didn’t spend the $140 Aus to get the expansion, I wish I could just go back to running maps and helping out when needed and having fun. I think HoT is the new Microsoft XP/Vista debacle, you should have the choice to down grade to GW2 core (or from Vista back to XP) to fit your personal needs.
I love the people complaining about not being able to get elite spec day 1, really? lmao
9/10 so far, loving everything to bits. The new prorgession system is very fun compared to just gaining a LVL but you gain something totally different with masteries
Vayne, I agree with you, this is a much better system, so now I have had my “rant” I will just keep playing, I find the trait system much easier to get the best out of your toon, all said and done it works well, I was just blowing off some steam is all
Vayne, Thank you for pointing me in the right direction, clearly I have misdirected my efforts. I also feel if I have a grievance I should be able to express them.
I will also venture a little further and say most of the people who have replied saying get over it and move on all have a number of max level characters and are not really effected by this, and as a result do not understand the frustration it caused, also for your information I have done more HP challengers and now have 19 points to play with (after patch I had zero left), but not the 30 odd I would have had if this had not happened and now having to work my way through levels 30 to 45 using a specialisation that does not fit my play style or the weapons I like making this less fun than it should/could be…..
Not confused just annoyed, For example my Warrior, no points in defence at all, duel axe and rifle all points (I had left for later) went into defence and shield skills. How is this helping, please, mtpelion.4562, enlighten me!?
Well, I had a lot of Skill Points (saved) to spend on a number of my toons waiting to get enough to do what I wanted when I wanted, after patch I now have all my SP/HP spent in the exact place I did want them…. fine lvl 80 toons get to do what ever they want and have points to spare.
My question is why didn’t they just refund points spent and let the player put them in areas they want at the level the toon is at for the play style they are exploring, would that have been so hard.
Also a post had, and I am paraphrasing, well you should have known it was stated in the poi, what is the poi????
I Like to Run Randomly Around the Map
Same, sometime you find underwater caves that come out in an underground cave.
On the naming convention, I find most of the names in game are tic, so a name like Regina Lightfingers would be good for a thief, not an Asurian name by convention but not a bad name I think.
Hi all,
Helequin, count me in.
My friends call me fossil, Fos for short O.o
Dose GW2 have a sign off like EvE’s “Fly Safe”?
(edited by Rex.6954)
My names are, when I make them, “name REX” for boys and “Regina name” for girls.
Not sure WWorW to do first. so may or may not see you guys (and girls) around, hope I do..
And I am an altoholic on all MMo’s I play, this will be no different I expect..
