God Backpack Gliders (suggestion)

You can still get the jetpack? I thought that was only ever avaliable during the LS1 dungeon. Did they add it to that fractal as well or something?

I am specifically talking about the god themed backpacks.

Right. Point is, it would be weird to do collection upgrades for gem store items, and weird to do them for items no longer obtainable, but totally cool to do collection upgrades for stuff you can acquire through normal play.

However, wing skins seem to be to anet like outfits. Almost a completely gem store based system. IDK if they’d want to break that paradigm from either a financial or design standpoint.

I have no idea what gem store items you are referring to, and what unobtainable items you are referring to. I am suggesting that we have collections that unlock glider skins, themed after the god backpacks. The god backpacks are still obtainable, and they are not gem store items.

We already have some God themed backpacks:
- Shadow of Grenth http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Shadow_of_Grenth
- Light of Dwayna http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Light_of_Dwayna
- Chaos of Lyssa http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Chaos_of_Lyssa

certainly, we miss Balthazar, Kormir and Melandru.

There is a balthazar packpack. It is acquired from an sPvP track.

A melandru pack was added as part of supply line mastery vendors.

But yeah, expect to pay gets for matching wings, since unlike the matched gliders we have now they’d actually be entirely new models in stead of some slight alterations of the existing backpack models.

Other, easier glider skins from existing packs:

Wings of the sunless
Holographic dragon wings
Decorative molten jetpack
Invisible glider? (I’d really like this one)

Or perhaps they could be collections? they could require the backpack, the gift of gliding, etc.

It would be cool, but anet pretty much already cast a die on gliders. Like outfits, all gliders skins come from the gem store in one way or the other. This is why I highly doubt the items I listed will get a glider conversion, as they were content rewards rather than gem store purchases.

But hey, they could suprise us. After all they did put an outfit on halloween vendors, which is breaking with the normal model for outfits.

That said I highly doubt they would ever use a gem store item like the god packs as part of a collection. Collections are entirely made up of objects found ingame because they award achievement points and are usually intended as a sort of content.

No, not the god weapon/armor packs, i’m talking about the current backpacks, which are certainly attainable in game (in fact that’s the only way to get them).

I could see them making them gliders with a collection in that case for half, but it doesn’t seem worth the effort for the items that are no longer obtainable. People would complain like crazy that they made these new glider skin collections that they can’t do.

I’m torn on this. On one hand I like that certain skins are “retired” and no longer obtainable as they were linked to time limited events. On the other hand I’d like to see some of those with a glider conversion.

Maybe grant the unobtainable ones for free (so if you have a jetpack you get the free glider like with the wings) and the ones you can still get as collections?

Those backpacks are still obtainable, I crafted one a few weeks ago.

Simple thought: It would be great if the god themed backpacks had associated gliders that look just like the backpack, but with fanciful magic wings attached.

Balthazar: Wings of metal with fiery trails
Dwayna: Wings of free floating feathers (like the female phoenix legs) with golden glowing trails.
Grenth: Wings of bone and darkness with icy trails
Lyssa: Purple illusory wings (one may look like it’s mid shatter, mesmer style) with illusory butterfly trails.
Melandru: Wings of branches, covered with moss, with a pollen trail.

etc.

these would hopefully be unlocked upon unlocking the associated backpack skin.

I am absolutely on board for every one of the current suggestions. #9 would be really handy, I would love to be able to use my Super Boom Box on any character without having to ferry it through my bank first, this would be especially useful if it allowed me to also access Copper/Silver fed salvage-o-matics across my entire account!

What world do you live in where it takes 200 hours to get to level 80 and be equipped for end game content when you have already played the game for 1000 hours? You could easily whip up a set of exotic gear and have a character leveled in a few days (assuming you don’t have an experience scroll or a single tome of knowledge, for some reason).

Can we *please* not call it "Daredevil"?

Every class forum is the same, crying about how their elite spec is terrible, or if their elite spec isn’t the second coming of jesus that they will re-roll revenant. I for one like the name Daredevil, perhaps we should wait and see what the elite spec actually does before proposing our own (95% terrible) alternative names.

My staff elementalist regularly uses all the fire skills, water #5, and earth #3 in combat. The others skills only see very limited situational use, and i only use lighting to change the attunement of glyph of storms (or for a speed boost of out combat). My guardian regularly uses all 10 of his weapon skills, as each skill is more valuable than 80% of ele weapon skills.

Show multiple weapon sets [Suggestion]

The clipping issue still is only one of the many issues.

But the problem with the clipping is, I’m sure that most situations and combinations of weapons would result in clipping.

Saying that you don’t need to check the “display all weapon sets” box is fine in theory, except that there will be a lot of people in the community complaining that it isn’t fair and how the new feature is useless/ugly for them.

Weapons could be angled slightly so that their hilts remain in the same location but the body of the weapon hangs in a slightly different location to avoid clipping. Honestly, I’m not 100% certain what lengths the devs would have to go to for a feature like this. What I do know is that having weapons teleport out of my rear looks so ridiculous that weapon swapping kills some of the immersion for me.

Show multiple weapon sets [Suggestion]

It’s a common request but it’s something that a lot of people won’t be on board with.

Here’s a quick list of all the reasons I can think of (brought up in previous threads):

-Graphical clutter. Can you imagine somebody wielding multiple legendary weapons, or any weapon with particle effects?
-In addition to the above, the fact that not only is it unsightly, but would decrease performance for many.
-Clipping: not only with the additional weapons, but with armour and backpieces. Even if it was optional, A-net won’t want to add something less than perfect to the game with the intention of fixing it later (to add to the long list of fixes)
-What happens if I have a shield in each weapon set? Both shields will be overlayed on my character’s back at the same time. The same could be said about other back-stowed weapons.
-Where would the other weapons go, without being awkward? Especially on smaller characters.
-Requires a reasonable amount of development- new animations would need to be made to suit the repositioning of the additional weapons.

If you’re weapons are clipping heavily just hide the second weapon set, the same way we can hide helmets, shoulders, gloves, and backpacks. There could be a setting in the options to only display other players active weapon sets. If using multiple weapons that use the same slot the inactive one could be automatically hidden.

I propose a hide show option for secondary weapon sets (similar to what we currently see for gloves, shoulders, and helmets). Having the secondary weapon set checked would allow you to see your inactive weapon set, in addition to your active weapon set (this would have no effect on single weapon classes like engineer and elementalist, unless the option was added to display equipped weapons while wielding kits or conjured weapons).

I believe this would benefit players who greatly appreciate the aesthetics of their characters, especially for those who might enjoy it for the RP element (warriors might feel more like the masters of martial weapons that they are when they can see their greatsword, sword, and axe all displayed on their model). This function would be completely optional, so if weapon sets clipped through each other (such as a greatsword and hammer) the feature could be disabled (though, if weapon model mounting points were adjusted while showing multiple weapon sets, that would be dandy).

Thanks for reading, and I would appreciate to hear what you think!
