The skill is redundant on X/P but it works great on some builds.

For example, on D/D+Staff power build it works great to execute those whose passive defenses are down.

Big difference between thief and war is that the thief is the worst class at any N vs N fights (it is better then some for certain N vs M, but never for equal numbers).

If some lose in a duel to a thief (while playing any other class on a roaming build), then said thief is simply miles better skill-wise. The same is not true for a war though.

One question though:

In video #1 at 3:37 a chrono is getting attacked, then he does nothing till 3:41 when he teleports. How is that possible? It is like 4 seconds of reaction time? really?

Ok he was immob, may be his teleport was on cd that just went off at 3:41 (which is highly unlikely of a coincidence but ok). In any case, between he got first condi and he got immob at least 1 second passed, with good player reaction time of 0.2 seconds it was 5x time he needed to move away (since it is obvious that the trap is coming). Even with terrible reaction time of 0.33 seconds, he would still have 3x time…. (in the worst case 2x, since ok mb it was less than 1 second, the video has no ms count to see)

So the question is how is that possible? I mean its hard to imagine you set up with so many guys, but also hard to believe in 4 seconds of reaction time.

Permanent stealth is indeed annoying but far less game breaking then bunker builds, so before fixing the permastealth issue Anet better nerf all the cheesy bunker builds (its ok to be tanky, it is not ok to be tanky and deal good damage).

As a suggestion I would restrict might stacks depending on how much power a build have without them:
<= 1800 power: max 1 might stack (newly coming simply replace existing one if they are longer)
1900 – max 3 stacks

3000 – max 25 stacks (maximum possible)

Thief is the weakest class for any scale battle that involves an equal amount of participants from both sides. If a thief wins a duel it either means that his skill is miles above the other player or the other player did not have a proper 1v1 build and the thief had.

Thief is the weakest class in all departments (including the chasing since the sword nerf) no doubt, but one positive aspect of it is it actually require efforts to play and gives some thrill of a battle.

I have Reaper, Berserk, Herald and Druid and can not play more then an hour or two in a raw (talking about WvWvW) with them because they are so easy and boring.

Well I can make an advice here:
I’m plying 0 30 0 30 10 build without centarus runes (use lyssa) and I can keep perma swiftness. I have 13s swiftness from trickery on steal + around 3s every dodgeroll + vigor on heal every 15s.
What concerns HS: I only need to dodge once to make 3 HS in a raw with swiftness

Any way to get perma swiftness as thief?

while I agree with the most sad, where did u get numbers for roll for ini and withdraw? I remember without swiftness they both have the same range 600 pt (compared with sword 2 which has a stated range 600 pt) which gives with swiftness + 33% -> 800 pt for both.
HS has range 450 -> with swiftness 600, if u do it without swiftness up it’s just ini waste

Well thief has: 1200 shadow step + 1500 steal + 800 withdraw (if u turn fast) + 900 Infiltrator’s Signet + 3000-3600 HS spam (takes 3-4s) = 7400-8000 range is u use all…

no you couldnt. srry not being mean…but you cant :P …. your only chance is CCing if u get it off early…if not just wave goodbye.

Why not? Every HS is 600 pt jump with the swiftness, and you can make 5-6 of them in a raw. Warrior however needs to be bad enough so you can beat him without ini…

While I think P/P as a main set is quite weak due to relatively low damage output and low defence capabilities, I found it to be quite good as a second set together with my D/D in WvW. After I burst someone down to 30% hp or so he usualy tries to use gap opener and heal, at this moment it’s (at least I found it to be so) quite efficient to change to P/P interrupt and finish him with unloads (to burst down anybody from 100% hp with unloads is much more difficult and most probably ini will be over faster then enemy goes down).

I play thief and necro now (enjoy both in WvW and up to now like 98% of changes with patches). Also planing to make a warrior (just need to find those 5-6 h to level and equip him)

Have no trubels with thiefs disengagement and here is the reason:

Thief designed to play on the enemies backyard (flipping camps, towers by sneaking in and killing dollyes), not on the main front of battels and for this thief need to be able (have a chance) to escape from multiple enemies chasing him. As a consequence it could be used to troll people, well I do not see a big deal (just do not feed trolls…).

With all respect to your point of view:

I play not only thief and currently mostly necro, but I like how the game works now.
I will not be too sad if ANet change thief towards what you preffer, but I like their unique ninja-stile gameplay (you want to make them another warrior type class).
And most importantly I do not think ANet gona change meta.

Well I will actually agree with you here that WvWvW is designed in a huge portion of it for small GROUPS. When did thiefs become superior for that kind of things? Did I miss something?

Sorry if I missunderstood you, but I thought you was whining about thiefs being superior for SOLO-roaming, which is, as I sad before, is not what important for ANet’s balancing. If you are saying that thief class is superior for 5vs5 or 8vs8 and such scale…. its just so wrong… but it’s not what you meant, right?

So ANet made a game called “GUILD wars” and a part of this game called “WORLD vs WORLD vs WORLD” where solo roaming is 5-10% of what is important. And 20-30 people here on forums disagree and keep spaming it with ideas of making WvWvW some kind of dueling-roaming arena. Why should ANet care about those 20-30 among thousands who play? Why would they change the whole game design for those few?

What he meant is actually 1 condition is removed upon entering the stealth and another one if thief stays in it for 3s.

If it would remove cond only after staying 3s in stealth it would be totaly useless.

2)Thief needs to attack from stealth and far not all builds have 4 s of it, so if thief waits for 3 s in stealth then he miss bs. So in reality it’s only 1 cond per kitten (don’t forget about reveal).

1) you are calling others noob and you can’t do a good perma stealth chain? lol. Count 3 sec in your mind and use CnD or smoke at 2.5. You will get out of stealth for only 0.x sec then enter stealth again. You can do that on a wall, on a siege, on the dolyak or wild animal even when you sip on beer. Heck you can even macro this and both your hands can be on something else.
2) why do you want to get yourself revealed when you got a whole bunch of condition to cleanse say from a condi engi? And you dps is probably better than a BM ranger without pets even if you are only doing CnD or smoke+leap attack every 3.x secs. (shrug)
3) even for a noob like you 2 cleanse in every 4 secs and occasionally revealing yourself, you got a pretty decent condition removal there. And that’s exactly the point of my argument against ‘Thief lacks condition removal’.

I think it will be good if thief receive revealed on miss, BUT at the same time stealth attack such as backstab become unblockable and ignore blind (block and blind are both too cheap mechanics to avoid bs in this case).

Think such change would promote skilled play from both sides:
-thief now can not just spam bs
-his opponent can not just press 1 button for the counter

Need tips on countering thief.

Hey man, I’m playing both Thief and Necro so I guess I can give some advises.
1) Do not overestimate thief’s healing in stealth. It’s only 300 hp per second and trait that increases stealth duration do not work for D/P leap combo so it only gives 3s stealth. And those 0.9k healing is negated by 1 auto-attack of my necro’s axe.
2) Necro has channeled abilities on axe and dagger, if you fight a D/P thief just pomp it up at the moment he use black powder, it will deal around 3.5-4k damage on a power build and the stealth will not save from it.
3) If after using you channeled skill thief is still stealthed use death shroud 4 ability. It’s channeled and do not require target, so it will damage him in stealth automatically for another 3-3.5k damage.
4) Necro has lots of chilling skills with long (5-7s) duration use them 1 by 1 on thief it will help a lot.

The game is not supposed to be balanced around roaming. I think your complain is about WvW which is “World versus World” not “Roamers Dueling Arena” .

And the game is MMO RPG where “R” states fot “Role” which means every class has a role and solo roaming is for thieves.

Anyway like it or not ANet don’t agree with you, and I and some more people as I can see from comments also. So if you dont like the meta of the game its your own problem.

Well I do not really think it’s a bug there but it is completely ridicules.

I’m a casual player and to acquire 1 ascended item I need to make daylies for almost a month. I have only one character because with one month for ascended it’s impossible for me to equip more.

I’m now playing for 3-4 month in total and today was able to buy my second ascended ring and what a nice surprise when I figured out I can not equip it with another one I have because they are the same…

So if it’s supposed to be so unique that I can not equip two simultaneously, then why

1) There is no big warning about this nice feature when I buy it? (also in properties it says “unique” without any explanation)

2) Why am I able to have 2 same “unique” items in my inventory simultaneously?

PS.
May be one should not be able to buy another same “unique” item if he already has such soul-bound item for the char he is trying to by it with?

Just frustrating 1 month of daylies for nothing….

Have you tried a pistol/dagger build? I would go with condition damage if you’re trying to make a ‘bunker’ build.

Not true at all…I run this armor set with ruby Orbs and Zerker everything else and I still get 5-6k backstabs…

Why couldn’t’ you just take another picture.. Now we all know this is photoshopped.. . Son I am dissapoint. Next time try not to have the same exact picture with everything the same just the time is different lul.

1v1? No way if thief do things right and this is how it is intended to be. Because the thief is only intended scout profession in the game. Others simply do not deserve to have escapability close to thieves because they didn’t sacrifice their AOE, long range attacks, damage sustain, invulnerability, etc. Good example that Anet also think so is eles rtl nerf.
Unlike others thieves do not meant to be on the main battle front of WvW, they meant to be on the enemy backyard making destruction there. To be able to do this they are given with great escaping capabilities (enough to escape from zerg and definitely from 1 player).
To pay for this thieves also not very good duelists. On the same skill level thief will more lose (run away) than win. So yeh you should play what your class made to do, if you want scouting – roll a thief.

Make stealth atacks ignore blind and unblockable, then steath can end on miss. Otherwise those blinds and blocks way to easy to apply for certain classes.

Full Apothecary buld with 0 0 30 20 20 + food that stack might on dodge (keep up 12-14 stack from stealth and dodges) + caltroops on dodge and P/D set.
Woks if your group do not overstack bleeding.
That build will give you enough heal to survive almost everything and medium cond damage from bleed.

Hey all,

We lost a lot in PVE stealth efficiency after those agro “fixing”, while it realy helped with those skill challengers who tend to become friendly=invincible on stealth use, it created much more problems like making downed in dungeon equals to dead if nobody come to res you (before we could use 3-2 combo and mobs lose us).

So here is the suggestion:

When object become stealthed move it to the lowest position in an agro table

It will return our PVE stealth efficiency and will not touch problematic skill challengers because if thief is the only one in their agro table it will not change anything from how it’s now.

Think Anet should warn people when they choose to play thief. It’s like if you choose thief in class choise big window pops up: “Warning, noobbuster class – good to demotivate nabs and make them cry, but highly underpowered in skilled play” . That would be just fare, so people who want to have skilled play would not choose this profession.

Well let’s see thievs maximum have 15 ini, the lowest skill cost is 3 so on all the ini thieves can use 5 skills maximum. meanwhile all the other classes can use 8 skills in raw by switching weapons (eles can use 16!!!!)
Think will be fare than if all other classes will have comon cd for 2-5 so if they use 3 for example and switch to other weapon 3 is on cd already

As I mentioned before there are a lot of ways to avoid BS (may be too many, I didnt name all, there are still fear and different leaps and all classes can stealth also). On skilled player its almost impossible to place BS if only he aware that you are coming, so for the sake of balanse BS need to buffed not vise versa.

Well let’s see. ways to avoid backstab:
1) block longer than 2s (no skill required)
2) 2 dodges (no skill required)
3) aoe blind for more than 2s (no skill required)
4)invalnurabiliti for more than 2s (no skill required)
5) aoe knockback (almost no skill required)
6) 1 dodge + smart move (some skill required)
7) aoe cripple (skill required)

U might want to have buttom “defeat the opponent” with some cd and than call it outplay when you saved that cd for some fight, but it’s fortunately not the case.
