Hey guys I appreciate your feedback I do believe I will give gw2 a good shot, the main deal is I hate grinding pve as a pvp requirement, and gw2 pvp system solves that for me. I’m still gonna be finishing WoWs pvp season etc in meanwhile since I’ve got my team etc.
This is my channel if anyone is interested to see I mean what I mean and ty again guys

So I’m a WoW vet and me and some friends want to go to try a new mmo with super competitive PvP […]
PvP is pretty dead, no real competition at all. Many PvP’ers including most top tier players left the game. There are no official tournaments anymore, just ranked PvP with terrible matchmaking due to low population. .
“Pretty dead” as in overall or just at top bracket of pvp its 2 to 3 teams queuing into each other back to back?
It’s “Pretty Dead” as defined by melodramatic forum community that has been insisting that PvP is dead for the last 4 years.
Haha

If all you want to do is sPvP then you need nothing, don’t even need to level up a character. All equipment, weapons, traits are open for you from when you enter the game and you are on a level playing field with other players.
WvW you are better off leveling and opening HoT professions but that takes if focused only on that about 30 hours in game time, and all can be done inside the WvW maps.
That’s good and if we did try some casual PvE like that personal story which looks cool hadn’t seen mmo with that or raiding, are there any cost needed towards gear runes buffs for competitive raid etc?
Thanks again
So I’m a WoW vet and me and some friends want to go to try a new mmo with super competitive PvP (e.g. I’m currently #7th rogue “thief” in US in WoW) and while some are voting for like Black Desert etc I want to try gw2 cause I bought this game and the expansion when it was on sale but I never fully got to play the game.
I want to know how much does gw2 truly require to play competitive and all the costs. Example, Black Desert sure you can pay once that’s it and have access to entire game but you’ll be lacking without pets for combat etc unless you use real money
So in gw2 I already see things like extra character slots, bag space, and some outfits cosmetics. Asides that, can you fully play the whole personal story, wvw, and spvp competitive ranked and not pay for anything other than the expansion?
Essentially I dont want anything to pop later on and I’m pretty used to paying 15/month and having full access to EVERYTHING in game for sub fee.
Thank you
Edit: also, how much do you have to grind? Because part of the reason we’re trying to swap games is cause WoW is currently requiring to much grind for Pvp.
All I wanna do is PvP. So wow now requires you to level the character, okay.. I hate it but every mmo is like that… And it requires you to level your artifact weapon, which requires you to do PVE and I hate PVE cause I just wanna PVP, so they require you to spend about 8 hrs/week doing quests to level your artifact, then crafting for world pvp, and the system is so stupid I had to spend about 8 hrs week for 2 months before I could fully max level pvp. Like I’m just trying to play the pvp thats what’s fun and we’re having to be like those kids from south park for countless hours when you just want to play competitive not grind, you know?

So now there’s a “dismiss” button when queue pops and that’s great! but it only lasts 2 seconds until everyone chooses a map then the map roulette stays there for like 20 seconds and it won’t go away.
@guildwars2 can u make it so that once the queue pops and you choose your map, EVERYTHING the whole queue pop UI just goes away until you actually get in the game?
It’s super annoying to not be able to see anything if you’re fighting the target dummies or classes NPCs and have a huge box on top of your screen.
Thanks
Does toughness and all damage reduction take effect during Infuse Light?
Infuse light transforms all dmg taken into healing for like 2 sec etc,
but does toughness still apply? cuz i would think it’s better to take as much damage as possible to get the best value out of infuse light lol
Is there a way to turn off the overhead names of the mesmer pets so that only the player shows? Or is there an option on the keybindings so that I can set a Target Enemy PLAYER only, not just “enemy” (which would include pets/NPCs)? Like in WoW, there’s keybinding options where you can target the closest enemy, but also an option to target closest enemy PLAYER.
I’m asking because it’s nice if I could just easily target mesmers rather than their pets by accident.
Thanks.
Revenant best class super fun
It will depend on your chosen vertical offset and whether you are an Asura or not. As I keep my camera zoomed out and raised, I find I can get better “selfies” if I shrink my FoV and toggle off the char height and first person options when taking the pic. I definitely get a dramatic change in the camera height when toggling character height view.
The dramatic change, like what does it do? Does it make it come in closer to the Azura’s height or does it raises up the camera so you can see everything like if you were human/charr ?
Thanks again
What does this exactly does and is it helpful?
I turned it on and off all I understood from it was that the camera went like 1 cm higher when you turned it on, that was it.
Thanks

Sounds like you are looking for WvW roaming if you wanna be a solo hero. You’re not going to find that in conquest on a day-to-day basis. Winning a 2v1 is does happen from time-to-time if you’re really good and they’re really bad, but you can’t make a build around it. I would recommend watching some PvP youtube videos or twitch streaming to get a sense for what to expect, and choose a class based on your desired role/playstyle. Just take every class into a hotjoin and see what feels right.[/quote]
i like that actually, i’ll try that thanks
@psizone@wolfric: i appreciate you guys’ response, made me think and re-evaluate a lot!
@mister fluffkin: I played rogue in world of warcraft for 4 years. In wow there’s no “diamond/legend” ranks as in gw2, everyone’s got their own personal rating and a number. I was ranked #12 in the US in season 6.1 (8 months ago or so), and rogue is the highest skill cap class followed by mage. Unlike some rogues who play Subtlety spec and are more of support and rapid bursts, I played a 1shot combo and i was able to 1v4 kids in a matter of seconds. I enjoyed what I did there so much, so now that I’m attempting gw2 i’m looking for something similar to it. I know gw2 is higher skillcap (or at least i can tell, by how everything has to be timed unlike wow many things are spammable), but I want something similar to what i’ve done for a long time because it’s what brings joy to my heart when i’m playing.
I’m trying to decide between Guardian/Rev/Thief/Ele right now, but I’m having a hard time making up my mind.
I’d like to play a class that either
1) can 1v2 and actually kill both kids not just tank it
2) lot of damage (big numbers)
3) can 1shot in 3-4 sec or less.
4) if tank, can tank 3 people at least and survive forever
I’m still fairly new to gw2 haven’t gotten any toon, my highest was like lvl 35.
So if anyone has a suggestion or details on which class would be best suiting for the department that I’m looking to play i’d greatly appreciate it
I don’t mind playing high skill cap classes. If there’s other classes that I didn’t list up there that you think may be able to accomplish what I’m looking for, that’s fine i’d love to hear it.
Thanks
Yo,
I love to make new characters from time to time to try all the different classes since I only have so many slots for the time being, so I keep 1 character slot empty for that reason.
Now, there’s a lot of players out there including myself, to whom the character being as perfectly designed, is a must.
To some, it’s important that the character looks just like ourselves in real life. To others, it’s important that the character looks fictional and fun. To some that it looks scary even. Regardless the reason, the character creation is one of the most important aspects of the game because it gives birth to the character/toy/doll, and to some who take it very seriously, individual/themselves in-the-game, who they will be playing.
Getting to the point, I would love it if on the character creation there were a saving option so we can save how that character looks so when we create a new character, we can just get the same looks on everything from the character model we’ve saved. And/or copy character models from the ones we’ve already made.
To me and I’m sure to many as well, it’d be a very nice feature which we would enjoy quite a lot. It’d be a lot easier than having to go back to my notebook where I’ve listed step by step how to create the same model I always create, and have the dragging squares like on the eyes, nose, etc. detailed by centimeters. So yeah, I literally put a ruler on my screen and make sure “okay eye angle, 5cm right from middle square. Eyebrow placement, 4.5cm left from middle square” and so on.
Thanks
what are some of the best 1v1 classes that have high mobility/fast and do a lot of burst /1shot dmg?
thanks
@flesh wound: are they going to charge me? or is it free? thanks again
I’d like to change my email address that I use for GW2
but i’m not sure how or how can i contact a gw2 employee so they can help.
could anyone tell me how or link me a post/video that could walk me through the process?
Thanks
do NOT play WoW.
I’m a 4-year WoW vet, i pved for 1 year, and pvped for all 4 years i played WoW.
I ranked the #11th rogue in the RBG ladder for WSeason1, hero of the alliance (highest title/achievement in pvp possible) for battleground, etc on both rogue and monk.
the game is BUGGY, people BOT like hardcore bot just search some of the issues Honorbuddy has with wow and you’ll see. If you want to win competitively, you will fight a TON of bots or teams with bots, even in PvE ladders the other teams script/bot/kickbot etc it’s a complete JOKE.
$15/month for cartoony design too not worth it man seriously. i am also guild master of a guild with 400 ppl on it i’ve been trying super hard to get all my friends and high ranking captains and team mates to transfer to gw2 but they dont like gw2 apparently cuz it’s too high skill cap -_-
so there you have it. wanna cheat pay 40 bucks a month to be a bot and rule the game, be my guest. but should you take that route, DISHONOR in my book.
do NOT play wow.
my wow rogue:
http://us.battle.net/wow/en/character/khaz-modan/R%C3%B8d/
my wow monk:
http://us.battle.net/wow/en/character/khaz-modan/Poel/simple
don’t play that game
example: sigil of force = increase dmg by 5% & sigil of bursting = increase condition dmg by 6%.
if i sigil of bursting i get it only would increase conditions (bleed/poison/torment/burning etc), but if i equip sigil of force, would it also increase my condition dmg overall or just my weapon strikes?
thanks.
@Booms hey man ty for reply n knowledge.
any notes on warrior, thief, mesmer by any chance?? thanks again!!
hi im new to pvp and still learning the game. me and my friends want to do ranked 5v5 and we wanted to know what are viable classes in those “conquest” modes i believe it’s called??
i’ve heard ppl say that ele/guardian are great, but then again ppl dont stack 5 of those.
could someone give me some incentive on what each class normally does in every game, like do they team fight/do they just defend the base?? do they go on a more support role?? for example i’ve heard “d/d elementalist” is always neeeded and for team fights cuz they cleave, tank, and offheal. so what about the other classes?
what about thieves, normally all i’ve been hearing is they only steal bases and constantly move, but are there thieves that go to the team fight?? same for every other class – can every class/specialization do any job, or are some better at certain ones n why
as far as revenant, i know it’s still fairly new class but how have they been doing in pvp??
thanks
@coco they’re at max im runnng windows intel® i5-2450M CPU @2.5GHz (4 CPUs) ~2.5GHz directx11 6.144 ram intel r HD graphics 3000
normally i get around more than fine with medium graphics, i’ve lowered them but just the glint animation lags, it might sound weird but i think it has something to do with the color blue? LOL it’s hard to explain but when all that blue clusters around the screen it lags.
i had a similar problem in world of warcraft when i was facing shamans, they’d throw the riptide totem or whatever it’s called and the blue circle it left behind would always lag me unless i had particle density to lowest.
any thoughts? thanks
it doesn’t happen at all with any other animation or clusters of animations, just glint.
when i use the glint elite where dragon wings come up and everyone gets interrupted, everything lags for a sec i think it’s the animation etc does anyone know if there’s a particle density option in the graphics so i can tune it down and it wont lag?
thanks
When the pvp queue match pops up it blocks everything
can you make it so that when we click ready it goes away until it asks what map it’s gonna choose etc,
and then when it comes to chosing maps, ok we click on the map thats it make it go away otherwise can’t click on anything
@Revolutionen: i’m fairly new to game still i tried ur build jesus christ i slaughtered the entire enemy team my name wouldn’t stop being spammed i was on rampage thankz doo!!
they were all good players too
@Doug @Agemnon I see, thanks for all of that. Since im a more pvp player I guess i don’t need that atm, not to mention i dont have any lvl 80 characters yet. maybe later IF i get into pve but doubt it.
So just to be clear, in "s"PvP (im guessing by “s” you mean instanced pvp?) all stats are equal, but in WvW actual PvE gear does come into play?
Thanks once again!
@Agemnon thank you for that, but what is it?? Like I don’t know what that is?? is it pve??
All I really do is pvp i have little interest for pve, i want to know if it’s pve/pvp, something else? and if it affects pvp in any way.
as i understood it, even if someone has some legendary weapon equipped and i have a gray, trashed lvl 1 weapon equipped, in pvp, it won’t change a thing since all stats are equal, is that true??
and also, kind of going off topic a bit, but does WvW work the same way as pvp in the gear system wise? (all stats are equal for all players regardless of their gear?)
thanks a lot again
What is Living World Season 1/2 and is it Free?? I’m new to game barely understood what WvW was and now I’d like to know what Living World Season is and if it’s free.
Thanks
I’m coming back to gw2, I’ve played a little on and off like 5 characters to level 20.
There was a patch a few months ago where conditions went insane I believe?? That’s around when I left.
I wanted to ask since after the patch and with the new xpansion, whats a profession that can:
-1v2
-hard hitting like a truck
-big time burst and/or cleave
and if don’t mind explain how each profession achieves these mentioned above^ lol
last time i was playing guardian/ele/thief/ranger/warrior i really liked all of these if one of these is in a super good state let me know
thanks
@Sparks thanks very much for your reply i found it to be very helpful
one last thing i probably should’ve mentioned is that i like speedy roles, such as those that can get from point A to point B the fastest. Professions that are slow might annoy me, and i’m not sure, some have told me that guardian/warrior can be fast but idk i would think a plate wearer would be rather slow.
thanks again for your insight
Hi I’m kinda new.
Between thief, ele, guardian, which can global one target in the least amount of time and which one is best for 1v2 in your opinion??
My preferred field is pvp.
thanks
I got there, but now what exactly do I delete??
There’s 1 folder, 1 notepad, 1 online file, and 1 blank file:
1) Coherent Dumps
2) ArenaNet
3) GFXSettings.Gw2.exe
4) Local.dat
http://i.imgur.com/MNziCOf.png
Which one do I delete?
@Many or anyone who knows
Thanks again!
When I go to Graphics options there’s not a Restore Defaults button like there’s for General Options, Sound, and Control Options.
Is there a Restore Default Graphics option hidden somewhere?
Thanks!
I’ve been browsing through the professions that I believe are most fitted for me, and I have a few questions. Hopefully some experienced people can answer them for me. Keep in mind my main focus is PvP:
1) Which’s better for 1v1: Ele, Thief, Ranger, Guardian?
2) Which’s better for 1v2: Ele, Thief, Ranger, Guardian?
3) Which’s the quickest/fastest, that can get from point A to point B between Ele, Thief, Ranger, or Guardian?
4) Which’s the profession that can global (“one-shot”/get enemy health bar from 100% to 0%) the fastest between Ele, Thief, Ranger, or Guardian?
5) In reference to Q1 and Q2, which is the most elusive – by elusive I refer to the one who can face (block or parry), avoid (dodge), evade (get out of the way), or tank (reduce damage) the most damage. All of those branches of what I call being elusive serve one purpose: Surviving. But every profession has a different way in doing so, thus, when answering this question please try to not be biased towards your main profession
I believe that this is it. I’m sure I’ve got more questions as I’m new, but I want to keep this short and sweet and really focus on the top topics and professions that I’m mostly interested in.
Ele, thief, ranger, and guardian are the professions that I’ve studied a bit more because they seemed the most appealing to me – I am up, however, to try other professions that you have in mind which would suit my interests
About me:
I’m coming from World of Warcraft (WoW), I main a rogue (closest to thief) and monk (a bit similar to elementalist as is tanky and quick).
Rogue is the highest skillcap profession/class in WoW, followed by mage. This last season I ranked #42th in the United States, so even if certain professions are hard to play – it’s okay. I don’t mind how hard the profession is, as long as it gets the job I like done.
My skills as rogue in WoW were really put to the test – I had to 1v2 double rogue five times this season in order to win the matches and I was very comfortable doing so – that’s why the 1v2 factor is super important to me.
I did notice some people are very affectionate towards the guardian profession. Some people suggested me, “Oh, since you’re new, try playing a guardian. Everyone welcomes guardians! And it’s easy to find groups as guardian!” – How easy or hard to find groups is not a factor for me either – In WoW, no one wants a rogue, mostly because how squishy they are and overall is really hard to play rogue. But I made that an exception – I was the leader of my own group(s) and most friends wouldn’t take off unless I was in the group.
Although may seem a bit ironic based on what I’ve said, I don’t want to seem biased towards rogue/thief class in any way. I just wanted to make it understandable that I don’t mind playing a very hard or high skillcap class/profession since some people that are going to answer may think back to when they first started playing and what was easiest/hardest for them. And the reason I say this is because some people have also told me that thief is very hard to play. I, however, don’t know this for sure since I’m the new guy hoping you guys correct me in this.
Reason I’m quitting WoW? WoW is too gear dependent whereas GW2 isn’t. I’ve heard and watched some videos on how GW2 really puts the player skill to the test, and I’m always up for a challenge (such as the 1v2 matches ). ArenaNet also seems like a much more professional and friendly company compared to Blizzard Entertainment: These last few expansions in WoW have been ran by tyrants. Everyone there knows it – it’s like they (WoW devs) don’t even play the game. Blizzard barely talks to the community and I’ve seen ArenaNet/GW2 devs Twitch.tv stream more often than WoW and talk to their community. Also, ArenaNet doesn’t seem scared to admit when they mess up, and walk the community through what they’re doing to fix the issue and how they’re doing it. To me that doesn’t only seem professional but more friendly. In comparison, Blizzard pretends nothing wrong’s going on and instead of fixing the issue they mess up one-hundred more things. Their logic is very stupid too – they buff the most OP classes/professions beyond imagination and nerf the ones that need a buff. There’s more videos about what a joke WoW has become than actual gameplay. Also, there’s a lot less 14 years old in GW2 by the looks of it. There’s no trolls, and the forums seem clean. Fingers cross the badly mannered kids don’t find out GW2 and move over here.
Thanks a lot for listening (err, reading) everyone. All responses are welcome I read the replies that are even in the very back, all player knowledge very much appreciated
Thanks for both of you guys’ replies.
Now, is it hard to acquire the Transmute charges? Do I have to pay real money to get them? I’ve gotten a few and haven’t even hit level 20, but will I get more that easy?
Thanks again!
Hi, I’m new to GW2 coming from WoW and wanted to know which crafting art provides the most in-game gold/income here for the least amount of effort. Or, does crafting here even provide any gold source (I know in some games crafting is purely for the individual’s benefits but doesn’t provide gold income)?
Thanks!
I I transmute a helmet, will ANY helmet I equip look as what I transmuted the helmet to, or it JUST transmutes the individual helmet, thus, if I equip another helmet it won’t have the transmute effect?
Does transmute apply to the slot or to the individual item?
Thanks!
Does the pet I choose at the start for Ranger determine something about the personal story? Thanks
It is a playstyle thing, Elementalist and Thief are probably the biggest offenders in the “super-annoying” category in WvW, but Elementalist is much more mechanical in its playstyle.
What do you mean by mechanical? and how is thief not mechanical per say? And thank you for all your insight =)
You might be able to do 1v10 if all 10 are afk
LOL
I’m not a PvP/WvW expert, but look up Thief Roaming on Youtube. Roaming thieves can be deadly and very difficult to counter. They can easily pick of targets in a small group and demolish a small group entirely.
“Exploding” 10 people in 1 minute? Unlikely to happen unless you’re against a lot of very clueless squishies. Everybody has access to heals and defences along with CC.
Since you mention that: Another thing that is HUGE for me is being able to 1v1. As of now, I can literally 1v1 any class/spec/build with my Rogue, and I want to be able to do the same with the profession I play in GW2. Is 1v1 overpowered by anyone specific profession?
Hi,
I’m coming from World of Warcraft (WoW) to Guild Wars 2. I’ve been playing for a little bit, but still have quite a bit of questions. One in particular about PvP/World vs. Word:
The classes/professions I play in WoW are Monk/Rogue/Shadow-Priest, and out of these only Rogue can be the very equivalent of a Thief in GW2.
I am high rated in PvP – I do care about competitive PvP – but the most fun activity in-game for me is joining random battlegrounds (which I think is most similar to World vs. World) and farm all the people with low gear, no skill, and all the noobs. Wait for the to resurrect and boom! Kill them again. And me and my friends can do that for hours laughing our behinds.
And the thing is, we can do this because WoW is broken so if I have much higher skill and better gear, as well as a few potions/elixirs, I can explode 5-10 people all by myself in a minute. Even as classes/professions that are considered “squishy” by most people, such as Rogue.
So, my question is if I can do the exact same in GW2 playing a thief? Can I go superman 1v10 people, or is the PvP/World vs. World actually balanced/NOT broken like WoW?
My thought process about a Rogue/Thief, for example, is to avoid damage, try to find an opener, and take the opponent out quickly. Most people can agree on this. But in WoW, I can literally go out of stealth all game and 1v10 pugs.
Would I be able to farm people in GW2 just like in WoW? Thanks =)
PS: So you have an idea of what a skilled player can do to 10 other people, here’s a visual: http://i.imgur.com/b2N8ToE.jpg
If anyone could compare that image^ and tell me if I could do the same in GW2 it’d be awesome. Can’t wait to farm those noobs!
I don’t want to just take out 1 or 2 people and struggle. I want to be able to go and explode the first thing I see moving and and eat everything else alive. That’s my theory of fun. =)
Is GW2 balanced in 1v1?
I watched Sodapoppin play this game and it looked really cool, then I went to check it out and there was that 75% sale going on so I couldn’t pass on it.
So far, I’m really liking GW2 a lot. Probably more than World of Warcraft (WoW) which is insane! I’m a WoW Vet, and so I had a few questions I wish some could answer for me:
#1: I’m still skeptical of the “one-payment and play forever” thing. Is this really true? I’ll never have to pay again to log in? Because if so, I’m guild master of about 600 people in WoW and I swear if I tell those 600 people to come play GW2 they will as well as 1/2 my server that would follow me.
#2: I’ve always been a PvP Hero – What’s OP in PvP? And more or less, I like thief/guardian right now i have both near same level: Is either thief or guardian good in pvp?
#3: I feel so noob walking in Divinity’s Reach at level 15ish and all these level 80s have such cool looking armors etc (probably transmogrified etc.) —> I notice there’s some gems you can buy with real money, BUT --> in the long run, can you save up gold and buy gems with gold (so you don’t have to pay IRL) and get some transmogrification charges/etc (still not very familiar on how this gems/gold system works, but basically, can you do everything in this game with gold if you save up and would it take a lot of effort)?
#4: (This isn’t a question) I don’t know if it’s the server that I got into, but I haven’t run anywhere close to 8 year olds spamming servers/“map” chat. That’s a good thing!
#5: (Money questions): What professions are good for money-making etc? Can you make money off from PvP? What would you consider in-game to be poor/medium/rich? (For example, in WoW I’ve had like 250,000 gold which is considered wealthy, but some people with 800,000g++ are legit rich). Here in GW2, I went to the AH and the most expensive thing I saw was about 4,000g, thus, what are player’s gold savings range like?
#6: Though I normally get high achieves etc., and do lead a large group of people, I’ve always been a casual player – I do my own things, and simply support my fellow guildies etc. in other ways. Would I still be able to get in a little competitiveness (specially in PvP) simply by playing casual? As well as be wealthy simply by playing casual (2 – 4 hrs/per day, every other day is usually what I’d do).
#7: 1v1 is always a big thing for me… If you’ve ever heard the “1v1 me bruh” that’s how I settle sometimes lol. Is guardian/thief good 1v1, and what are some best 1v1 professions/what counters who?? —>>> Or can any profession beat any profession assuming they’re equally skilled (so it’s totally based of skill)?? Can you also 1v2 if you have better strategic skill than the other 2 guys you’re fighting? Or is there one profession that’s “OP” above the others per say. If you find this question odd, is because in WoW you can roll a Death Knight and 1v40.
#8: I’m really loving gw2 a lot right now! @Devs put out some more advertising! If I hadn’t watched Soda play gw2 on twitch, I would’ve never ever come to know of gw2. Like I’m glad I watched his stream specially on the date when the 75% off sale was going on lol (success!!)
edit:
RIGHT, of course I would forget to ask about guilds…. lol…..
#9: (GUILDS!) Is there a population cap for guilds? Such as you can’t have more than 800 people in guild for example? Guild bank —? any fellow guild masters with solid guilds out there? how do you run your bank, tips What are ranking systems like and what bonuses do guilds offer? What determines a casual guild, a solid guild, a competitive guild, and a popular guild in your opinion? Is there any special guild feature I should be aware of? What do guild masters and their members like to do casually in gw2? How do you interact with your guild and how do you like your current guild and why?
Thanks for everyone’s help! Any tips for new player welcomed too (not THAT noob though. Well maybe we’ll see)
