Ryst Stryden – 80 Thief
Rystle – 80 Mesmer
Thanks Habibloew.
Sounds like you guys are on the right track:) Really looking forward to seeing your ideas take physical shape.
DaoC realm point system would be awesome. Rather than skill rewards that risk balance issues some sort of rank based buff system that effects siege gear, guards, walls and doors would be ideal.
i.e. at Rank 3 you might get a skill on a 30 minute timer that buffs the fire rate of a piece of siege equipment for 5 mins and/or at rank 5 you might get a buff on an hour timer that allows you to increase guard level by 1 for 10 minutes and at higher ranks maybe a insta cast supply free seige weapon on a daily timer- like an arrow cart that you could use in defence of a point with no supply.
Are there any plans for rewards from WvW?
I’d love to see some incentives for people to participate and for guilds to take, upgrade and defend strategic points.
Suggestions:
1. when a guild takes a point, the NPC’s should display the guild emblem and Tag.
2. guild influence could be earnt based on the duration a point is held and allow guild influence to be spent via the quartermaster on upgrades; and
3. allow guilds and players to earn ranks in WvW as in sPvP – with some sort of reward at each rank.
Love to hear other suggestions as well.
WvW is great fun but to keep it viable you really need to incentivise it and it’s important to do that before enthusiasm wanes not after.
How can we one shot anyone?
I suppose if they are low level and we are stealthed and get of a BS theres an outside chance but really most glass builds work on a chain that starts with steal, moves to CnD and then goes to BS.
That makes burst damage and kills situational and as it should be.
Wow a call for increased stealth duration when everyone is screaming for a stealth nerf – an invitation to flamers.
We don’t need boon love, we just don’t need to be broken.
Seto
I am an older player too and aussie based so latency is an issue for me.
I find that with slower reaction times i needed to spec high burst dmge and rely on basilisk venom to get off an attack chain.
So I went a BS build and SB. Short bow is great for running with a group and defending towers etc.
Alternatively you could go a stealth heavy spec and contribute to your guildies by finishing from stealth – that is always a big help in zerg situations.
I can see the problem – you’re playing a ranger.
Reroll a mesmer or glass cannon rifle spec warrior and own the thief downed or otherwise.
Edelweiss is a well known unskilled troll.
You’re not going to be able to engage in any reasoned discourse with him – best strategy is just not to feed him.
Asp – True, however, most of the complainers are players that don’t run around aware or prepared for instant action and don’t know how to play their classes as well as they should.
Dank, it sounds like you run a very similar set up to my Mesmer – are you traited 10,20,15,15,10?
Spying is not the only problem, a lot of the people that transfer now (at least to Mags in the last few days) are just real kitten.
We’ve had a good group of people running defences and fighting consistently against the odds and that has led to a tight knit and unified team that co-operates and functions very effectively for its size.
Now we’re doing well, all of a sudden we have all these new faces around that are just plain painful to deal with – largely self centered kids I suspect.
Yes we got a few good people , but the reality with the whole transfer system is that a lot of the people that move regularly from server to server are doing it for a reason (and i suspect one of the more prevalent reasons is that it quickly becomes apparent to people that they are kitten – so pull up stumps, transfer and make a whole new group of enemies).
Please ANET, get rid of the free transfers ASAP.
Yes we have a lot of dedicated people on Mags that run supply and defend in smaller groups.
A good 5 man group can defence a tower or keep for a long time against most zergs if the keep is upgraded and sieged up.
I have noticed a worrying trend this week though. We seem to have a lot of new players popping up that are mouthy and just plain painful to deal with.
I don’t mean any offence to Ebay, you guys generally do a great job and the fights are always fun when you have the numbers out there, but I suspect we are getting a few of your crappier players transferring over.
I really loathe the whole transfer thing and wish they just put and end to it – just leads to the worst elements moving from server to server and ruining it for everyone – I realise that there are cases of good people transferring for genuine reasons but they seem to be the exception rather than the rule.
If the thief opens with Basilisk venom and Steal, chances are you are done for.
I have an 80 Mesmer and an 80 Thief (80 Ranger too).
Spec the trait that throws up clones on evade.
If you see the thief first, Berzerker straight away for cripple, then evade, then veil, then nuke until u can Bezerker again or switch to scepter and hit him/her with the 5 stack confusion.
When the thief goes down either mass invisibility or decoy and finish from stealth or just throw up a Warden and /Dance.
Or go staff, evade and throw up retaliation.
I see GW2 going the way of DaoC sadly.
Vicious nerf cycle which will effect every class eventually, leading to massive immigration to some other mmorpg.
A hardcore base will stick around and keep leveling toons to 80 to compensate for the fact that their other toons have been nerfed beyond utility. Sadly what then happens is that competent players start playing under appreciated classes is innovative ways and the nerfs calls just move to that class.
One day a designer will just say, this is the game we created, find ways of dealing with it, that is the challenge you face.
Sure, that approach will mean all the whiners will leave fairly quickly, but history tends to demonstrate they do that anyway – after ruining the game for everyone else.
I want to play THAT game.
I’d love to be proved wrong but I suspect if the nerfs keep coming you can look for server merges in the next 3 months and expect population levels to be dismal by February/March 2013.
Thief was my second toon actually.
Lvl 80 Ranger
Lvl 80 Thief
Lvl 80 Mesmer
The funny thing is, out of the three and 1v1, the Mesmer is the most powerful class. Sure I’ll die on my Mesmer to a thief if he gets the jump on me with Basilisk Venom, but in every other situation I’m going to win.
What’s worse, chances are I’m going to win most fights 1 v 2 on the Mesmer – best result so far was a running fight with me and another Mesmer against 6 Ebay guys and the Hyleks. Okay 3 of the 6 were less than 80 but we cleaned them all up and the Hylek spawn as well. And the three stealths on the Mesmer make finishing a breeze.
So let me understand this – when a warrior specs for high dmge and low survivability that’s okay because the guy doesn’t know his own class.
However, when a class that is built for high dmge and low survivability actually has high dmge – that’s just wrong a needs a nerf?
Thieves need a nerf because they can kill warriors, but warriors should be able to spec higher dmge and still have more surviviability than thieves?
Let’s be honest, people don’t like the thief class because no one likes getting owned 1v1 and that is what the class is designed to do.
Want an effective counter to the thief – run in a group – problem solved.
“I wish people would learn to play their toons. I’m so tired of farming badges off ungeared, hopeless players while they’re afk and whinging on the forums.”
Perma Stealth is not a BS Glass Cannon build.
My thief is a glass cannon build and the only stealth I use is the heal.
Standard fight: Steal, CnD and immediate backstab (so stealthed for about 1 tenth of a second there) then HS, then heal stealth for the finish.
Yes I do huge damage very fast, but I have 11K health and no defence – Guards kill me if they see me in about 3 hits.
Every class can spec for high dmge yield output and low survivability – it’s just a question of learning to meet the tactics – if you can’t survive a glass cannon built thief, solo – don’t solo.
So many whiners in this game.
I died therefore you must be OP. Please nerf everyone until I win without having to L2P. Seriously sickening stuff.
Wow – that’s a great build for a warrior obviously.
Now if I killed him with my thief with Steal, Cloak, BS, and the stolen warrior blade storm ability combo, I bet you’d see a post on this forum calling for a thief nerf:)
Seriously the answer to all nerf calls should simply be L2P.
I guess it’s okay when Warriors spec and gear right:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=Ru_rXq2LYg0
Not calling for a nerf of warriors – just pointing out that any class played well and spec’d right is lethal and should be lethal.
Having said that, I bet this guy would call for a nerf if I killed him with my thief:)
Please nerf every class that I don’t play, so that I don’t have to learn how to play my class…
I missed sharpening stone in that equation – you need that for the bleed to take down thieves that have spec’d the vanish at 10% health trait. (I hit that at the same time as zephyr basically – if you have a progamable keyboard you can probably macro this so its super fast and never fails).
OP
1. Can’t see why it’s not a valid tactic to employ. It would be a crappy build for anything else.
2. I have an 80 Thief, Mesmer and Ranger – I finish from stealth with bot the Mesmer and the Thief and don’t bother at all with the ranger. My preference would be to get rid of the downed state altogether. If I couldn’t finish from stealth with the Thief I’d never kill another lvl 80 player.
3. You’re just wrong.
4. Agreed.
People honestly need to learn to play their own toons and stop kittening about balance. My thief is a special build with only 11K health. If I see you first, you’re solo and my timers are up, you’re dead no matter what class you are (with the possible exception of mesmers – I’ve killed a load of high dmge spec’d thieves with my Mesmer from the downed state – as a thief I tend to avoid mesmers, inm y view mesmers and not thieves are the most op class in the game and if you don’t think so you haven’t fought a good one).
So I will almost certainly kill you if I’m on my thief, you’re solo and I see you first. But that is basically my one shot. If you’re in a group I’m going to die before I can finish you, even with stealth (unless it’s a really crappy group of people or their all very low level).
If you see me first, I should be dead, no matter what toon you are on. I’m not going to tell you how to do it on each class because if you can’t figure it out yourself you should be pveing until you can play your class properly.
I will tell you how to counter with a ranger, however, because rangers are, unless well played, basically meat when facing a well played thief. Also they seem to constitute a large proportion of the biggest whiners.
Assassination spec thief sees ranger first, ranger is dead unless basilisk venom doesn’t hit. If basilisk venom misses or the thief’s timers aren’t up, the first thing the ranger should hit is Protect Me and then burn the thief down as below.
Ranger sees thief first, switch to short bow (rapid fire is too buggy to waste Zephyr on), Rage as One, headshot, zephyr, (hit headshot and zephyr keys simultaneously) go to town – if the ranger’s spec’d and geared right that’s 12-15K damage in about 4 secs and that will take out most high dmge spec thieves. If the thief is still up or manages to get into stealth, either hit protect me, switch to longbow and hit rapid fire or set your pet on him and run. Yes they have heartseeker and the shortbow port to try and catch you with but that will burn their initiative, so watch for it and turn and fight. Once a assassination thief misses the opening opportunity they are a poor class – oh and save dodges for any thief who is poorly played enough to think Dagger Storm is an effective tool in a 1v1.
Going to be a great game indeed if you lose all the solo players and smaller guilds.
Seriously this need to be revamped fast or people will just start to leave the game.
I realise ANET needs to make an income but the upgrade costs are ridiculous especially when timezone population imbalance mean that upgraded points can be capped by small zergs.
Reduce the kitten costs please.
Alternatively remove the costs altogether and base upgrades on guild karma expense. If something is claimed by a guild they can spend karma upgrading it. If unclaimed, it doesn’t get upgraded.
And give guilds some benefit for taking and upgrading points – at the very least it should be stated on the map which guild holds the point, even better would be for the NPCs to display the guild tag.
That or make upgrades automatic based on time held by a realm. So if you hold something for 12 hours it upgrades slowly to max.
