Are you at school/work? If you are there could be QOS running on the pipe throttling your patch.
One other way to fix this issue .
“Hey, I dont know what program you can be talking about.
This happened when i was setting up my 3 screens to make them into 1 but i was running Guild Wars while i was changing the resolution. Before i could get to the game to change the resolution to 5760X1080, it closed and gave me the error message. I even uninstalled and re-installed but i still have the error.”
Reset your 3 monitors to one log into GW2 open up options set to window mode (smaller than your one monitor)
close GW2
set your 3 screens back up
log in
reset full screen options
I am sorry to say your pics might be gone if she needed to “free up more space” it is an option during the upgrade process. One thing you could do depending on what options she chose for the upgrade is roll back it gives you 30 days. Roll back find your data make a back up and then do a clean upgrade and restore your data/game
Can't click back into Gw2 after alt/tab

Could be a resource issue. How much free Ram and Processor resources do you have once you alt tab out? If it just started maybe something new is running on the system locking the process or taking up- resources Maybe your video card drivers updated? Remove and reinstall your video card drivers. Once that is done you could also reinstall the game client. Instructions here http://help.guildwars2.com/entries/28148006-Repairing-the-Game-Client
Locate your Gw2.exe file.
Right-click on the file and select Create shortcut.
Rename this new shortcut to Guild Wars 2 Repair.
Right-click on Guild Wars 2 Repair and select Properties.
Locate the Target line and add –repair to the end. (Example: “C:\Games\Guild Wars 2\gw2.exe” -repair)
Click OK.
If that doesn’t work you could install Process Lasso and turn on gaming mode and see if the problem persists. If so it is a resource issue and I suggest running a Virus/malware scan to make sure strange things are not running
I get the same issue and it differs from day to day one day I log in everything is fine the next 20-40 FPS drop. Currently running a XEON and I found that on the days it was running poorly I open up task manager (details on win 8/10) Right click GW2 and set affinity. Turning off the “extra” 4 hyper thread cores seems to fix the problem for the day. As I said it happens one day and not the next and it all seems to be luck but setting the affinity seems to bring some relief to the problem not a perfect or long term solution.
The Brotherhood of the Old world is currently recruiting for our small but loyal guild.
We are all 30+ adults with Families, Jobs and other commitments. That doesn’t stop us from taking time every week to get together and venture out into the vast world of Tyria.
If you have found 4 and get the reference you are a perfect fit. If not don’t worry about it. We are easy going and just out to have some fun. Looking to grow our ranks so we can do more high level stuff, claim a hall, raids as previously mentioned, Glory Eventually! As life always comes first.
We gather Thursday nights in the MST time zone. Server doesn’t matter as we don’t do allot of WvW all we ask is that when we are together you rep. Our nights are filled with everything from helping with stories, map completion, boss trains, Silver wastes, /meta events, dungeons, or just chilling in a costume brawl as we catch up with each other.
So if you are looking for a great group of people to hang out with between work and children and eventually make your way to glory send me a message in game

I know some routers after time start to crumble under the load. GW2 can been intensive at time are you able to put a different router in place for testing? Are you using a telus modem/router combo before your linksys? If so disable all the router features so it is just a modem or set your linksys to run on a DMZ from the telus unit.
If your telus is like mine and is two different units modem and router. Remove the router from the mix and plug your linksys in directly.
Alternatively just use the telus devices and remove the linksys for testing only this would tell you if the problem is one your gateway device.
If it is the linksys replace it. Avoid using the telus included equipment their terms of service basically says by using this device you give us unrestricted access to any device you connect to the router. (they own it so they can do what they want)
I don’t know what you have in place but this is where i would start
good luck!
I had the same issue on my ATI card same RES it turned out to be a GPU temp issue turned the fan speed up and it went away.

Oh And what is the temp of your GPU if you open up the CCC provided my ATI you can click on performance and it will tell you the temp. I know when I switched from my 5770 to the 270X I started to have GPU temp issues playing GW and had to set the fan speed to 100% just to be able to play.

IF the repair option above does not resolve,
Run a offline mem test of your ram it could be that GW is using more RAM than any thing else you are running and hits a bad sector of RAM. Alternatively you could check processes see how much ram is being used at say it is 4 Gb (mine hovers around 4.5 GB after hours of play) and determine what stick of ram it is based on that and take the stick out and see if the problem goes away. So in my case I would need to remove 2nd stick of ram (16/4).
Could be your router wearing out GW tends to send allot of packets and requires allot of overhead on routers/firewalls. Dlinks are notorious for this type of problem. A side from that maybe an update to you AV or firewall program was install automatically and settings have been changed
I use this application on terminal servers/app servers at work to balance out CPU spikes and memory leaks caused by poorly written programs. Anyways One day I thought I would try to boost my GW2 performance by setting it to the highest possible priority within the application. all these settings are set to “always” So set Priority to “real time”
Memory – Normal I classified it as a game and the one that made the biggest difference is I/O =critical. Gained 35 FPS on my Xeon with a 5770 in a pci-e8x slot
gained 25 on my gaming rig (after I turned the shaders and model quality up noth from MED to High/highest
gained 45 without changing settings

They sBuheir first night under a cherry tree just staring up at the stars sharing each others hopes and dreams. I know the story needs some work. Really to come up with why the moa was there on the first place was it a gift from his nemesis the butler at caudecustomer manor? Why were they nemesis’ did raven truly abadon him when he needed him most.? This thread has inspired me to flush this story out allot more thanks!
I don’t have much one more of a neurosis. My engineer kills every single moa and chops down every single snow cherry tree. Why? his child was killed by a deranged moa and his wife blamed him for not stopping the Moa,angry and depressed she killed herself. Now every time he sees a Snow cherry Tree he is reminded of her and so he cuts it down to avoid the pain and every time he sees a Moa he fills with rage and goes on a killing spree.
I spend 75% of my time running around with my flame thrower or elixir gun out. Why are there no additional skins for these weapons? All other weapons have skins and don’t get me started on the amount of backpack skins. I just think it Would be awesome to see a zodiac Flame skin or a Atherblade or Toxic flamethrower skins.
Are the colors not being introduced to encourage tactical strategy and organization VS massive zerg running around the map? Maybes it’s my server but I have yet to play WVW and see anything the remotely resembles strategy. It is nothing more than form up on my tag run around from site to site, with the occasional other team spotted here get your speed boost out and run over there for a bit and hope we have more people ! It make sensethat on a server with a well-organized team who communicate with each other the colors are needed each person picks a color and from there they are able to provide better coverage on a map and focus on individual tasks.
The descriptions of WVW has always been that some large teams will take large targets smaller teams and the occasional individual will take smaller points. Allowing players to be part of the action in a manner they choose- from the press releases just before/after the game was released and clearly reading this press release the developers are trying to push players to play WVW the way it was intended. Additionally the extra colors will make great addition to massive Living world events that require a bit more organization such as Teq and the marionette allowing players who may not be commander identify what they are supposed to be doing (assuming the commander knows and is just tagging cause hey they paid for it!)
On the PVE side The commander system is in place to organize massive events not to form a zerg rush/farming run. Sadly the game although planned and designed well, It falls short because a large player base insisting on crafting grind and loot drops.
I suspect most of the rage comes from that fact that everyone wants to be the great leader and forcing people to pick a color and possibly forcing them to play “smaller” role in the attack could be upsetting to some and fair enough that’s what video games have traditionally been about. Being more than you are in life; an escape into something more exciting, and who really wants to give that up?
Might be your NIC. Is it onboard? If so try picking up a off board NIC.
I play Solo Eng, Thief, Guardian, ELE, Necro. Any class can be played solo as long as you focus on skills that do a good amount of AOE. I found Thief the hardest to get to started but once I sorted out the class (around lvl 25) It became really easy to solo most groups/ and champions. My advice is to find a class that you enjoy, take a look at a character builder online and plan out your build ahead of time. My guardian is the simplest to solo I don’t even have max dmg weapons and mow down almost everything in ORR without issue. Eng, focused on toughness and turrets so dealing dmg can feel slow at times but it is do-able. Necro use minons to take the dmg,
Thief – keep moving
ELE- there are a good amount defensive skills to desquishfy them.
Oddly enough have not yet sorted out the the ranger in a solo situation. I found the Ranger traits and skills were heavily focused on support. And the Mesmer well not my thing so there he sits at lvl 7…
So after that long winded explanation, Find a class that you enjoy playing and you will find a class you can solo
I love walking around a area and stumbling across the Dynamic Events however it gets a little boring when it is the same 5-10 events every day at predictable times. Perhaps having a collection of events that are randomized so you never know what event you are going to get. For example any area would have 50 events.
Over week 1 of a month 15 of these events are randomly implemented into live status and timed triggers would be also randomized
next week a random selection of 15 more (this could include a couple of the 15 from the previous week to aid int he randomness of it all. ) are selected and implemented.
Then the 3 and 4th weeks of the month would have different events as well. This way if I stroll through and aid a caravan today, and next week I am playing with a guild mate maybe we are attacking an enemy caravan in the same area?
Random events strings could contain 1 common string with a set time for example the centaurs maintain control of a village and are constantly pushing into the world via a collection of random quest sharing this theme and then on Sunday night the events triggers to re take the village. Out come village taken next week- random quests themed around a human managed village. Out come village held by centered – a collection of random quest different from previous weeks centered around centaurs having a strong hold in the area.
It would create a more vibrate living breathing world because for a week to week any area could be different and by having a collection of events to pull from ensures that each time through truly is a new adventure with a feeling of a ever changing world.
Would love to see a “Moa Culling” monthly achievement. “Remove 1000 Moa’s from the breeding population.”
These birds have injected themselves across all the lands of Tyria and they are a menace to the local ecosystems. In addition they are are particularly dangerous to the Asuran population as they have been known to kill Asuran babies without provocation. Won’t someone think of the children!
It is the day you created the character not the account. I have 2 that got gifts and 5 more that will get gifts as the year goes on. So again it is the day the character was created not the day the account was created so if you re-rolled cause you didn’t like your first choice well then you just have to wait.
Both GW1 and 2 have scaling resolutions so as long as the graphics card supports the resolutions should not be an issue. I am running 3 screens with a total of 5040×1050 without issue.
I think it would be great if you could manage your collectibles and junk items in your inventory. By this I mean define a slot in my bank as a collectible slot and whatever I place in that become a collectible. For example extra crafting materials (beyond the 250 stack in the collectibles slot), dye’s, Jugs of Karma, or whatever items you want.
In addition setting items as junk within your inventory to make it easier to manage your inventory and sell items quickly. After a year of playing any of my level 80’s I would much rather have all White and some blue drops just get sold when I click “sell Junk”
My first was a Charr Guardian- He was soon replaced by my Norn Engineer. Love the Norn, and the engineer is amazing because no matter what situation I am in (Solo, group event, Dungeon) A few small changes to my skills and he is ready for any situation be it suppor/ buffs support/healing or dmg/tank.
@ BillFreist I am very pleased with this, now the the UI scaling works having everything on the center screen is actually kindof nice
. But I still stretch it across all 3. Sadly I do still have problems when I alt+tab from full screen to windowed mode on the log in screen.
I have opened a support ticket over 3 weeks old and nothing has come of it. So I thought maybe you should be made aware. Does not affect game play but man is it ugly
Awesome Bill, That made my day. Thanks!
To confirm I just doubled my FPS by using a local account on the computer with no document folder redirection.
Any error messages? BSOD or does it just reboot? Have you run the repair option on GW2? If so I would guess bad RAM or heat but without anymore info it is hard to say
Anyone know of anyway to relocate the local.dat file from the documents/guildwars2 folder. I have 2 problems
1. My wife and I have shared network drive that all documents are redirected to and so we can not play at the same time as local.dat is locked once one person starts playing.
2. Local.dat is located on a network server and I would really like to move it to the local systems without disabling folder redirection.I suspect having this file on a network share is affecting performance and we are not turning of folder redirection for backup purposes.
[quote= The ma kitten hifted as well. When I attempt to use a fast travel point I have to click to the left and down of where the actual point is shown on the map for it to register.[/quote]
Adjust your interface size to normal I had the same problem. at least it is playable not a fan of the layout but at-least I can play.

“fixed” mine to be playable by adjusting the interface size from small to normal and that moved everything to fit the center screen correctly. World map is limited to one screen but works. Lets just keep moving backwards one day I hope to play at 640×480 with text so large it fills the entire monochrome screen

Please tell me how this is an improvement. The release has made the game unplayable. The UI is all crammed into one screen but at a smaller resolution. First pic is before the the update second is tonight. The way points on full screen map are unclickable. Even if it was only one screen and the UI was on the edge it would still be a step in the wrong direction making the screen so cluttered you can’t see what is going on is not good. Why can we not move the UI around like we could in GW1?

Same problem here using EYEfinity was awesome until the patch. Can’t even use the map way points. Tested different resolutions works in “windowed” mode.
changed my eyefinity primary monitor to center, left and right and it moved the UI/full screen map to that monitor but UI seems stuck at a lower resolution crammed into the middle of whatever monitor is the primary. Have wished since day one that the UI wasn’t locked down and could be move like in GW1.
This should be fixed I was soooo happy when the game was released with triple monitor support.
I play on Henge of Denravi and I find the population of the map any seems to do be dependent on if there is a world boss to be farmed and where the daily’s are sending people.
I remember making it to ORR months ago and only seeing 3 people in a 4 hours making events impossible. This changed as time progressed as people started getting to the higher levels and now ORR is full. The Starting areas have also surged in population with the past weekend trials and the other areas are very dependent on farm-able events.
I can also attest that on Henge of Denravi the evenings (6PM – midnight Mountain time) are very busy and full of people and in the afternoons you will find people to play with and tend to be more willing to help out. The mornings tend be very quiet. Weekends are busy all day. You may need to find a server that fits your play times.
If the system is new and the supplier made changes to the bios to accommodate the graphics card that says to me he didn’t build it. Take the system to the store that build the system and have them test the monitor/computer. If the system was built by someone else there should be some sort of warranty and if they didn’t put a big enough PSU in to handle the load that is on them.
It is possible that the monitor is stuck at a lower resolution (640×480) and this resolution is supported by the GPU on the older machine. Have him plug it into the older machine and turn the resolution to 1024×768 or higher and make sure the refresh rate is set at a low standard like 60 hz.
Unhook it and move it over to the new PC see if that sorts it out.
If not head on over to his house (if feasible) with your monitor and give it a test.
If the known working monitor still doesn’t work it is possible the PSU is just not supplying power to the GPU. Are there any alarms when the system boots?
One other thing – If you have RDP enable on the workstation have him power on the computer give it time to get into windows and RDP in to see if the system itself is running correctly and it just a monitor issue.
Did you try a different monitor on the computer in question? I would start looking at a possible PSU issue is it big enough to handle the graphics card you have installed? If you power on the computer do you get anything on the screen bios logo maybe and then it shuts off when the windows logo appears because that would indicate a driver or configuration problem. No signal means the graphics card is not working or the monitor is trying to connect using some other input (vga vs dvi or Hdmi). Forgive me I was confused reading above does the monitor work on the same pc with the on board graphics? if so and the bios is configured to display the break out video card? Also that could indicated that the PSU has a bad rail and the graphics card isn’t even turning on.
Do you have a lower end video card handy to test with? or you could even try a different rail on the PSU.
I agree Kal, I don’t want to see real money being used to get items any more then it is now. Maybe they could stop introducing new currencies for every new round of content. Why not use the currency that already exists so that if you play all aspects of the game you can collect your prizes from the vendor with the items you want without being forced to grind a single section of the game.
How many currencies are truly needed? If with every new patch we have to acquire a new form of currency to be traded for our rewards why is there not a currency exchange?
That is to say turn
Gold> Laurels >guild merits > Relics> karma
Have an excess of Karma and there is a laurel reward you want exchange your karma.
have relics and are eyeing a cultural weapon for that special someone exchange them for Karma or gold
If Tyria is to have multiple currencies there should at least be a market to trade with people. If everything wasn’t soul bound the players would have already created this market.
So going through the Snowden Drifts and seeing the fallen OWL hall and doing some events with the Owl Shawmens/devotees and after reading all the tidbits of info in the destroyed Hall I would have chosen OWL over any of the other spirits. I think it would be awesome if there was a world event or living story that rebuilds the the Hall of the Owl and at that point Norn players could change their animal guides. Or a personal story bridge that allows you to work towards honoring OWL and eventually as Norn becoming a devotee of OWL and change your spirit animal. For example a DE could be to help rebuild the OWL hall, run defense on supply trains, a personal quest could be to organized a moot (scavenger hunt style ongoing quest where you find NPC’s all over Tyria and invite them, gather supplies for the moot as sort of a grand re opening of the Owl hall).
I think this would be fun and only people who were truly interested in the spirit would need to par take in the personal story archs. It could also be cross races because lets be honest living among the different cultures you could have humans worshiping Norn spirits Norns who worship the human gods and even Char who find their path under the pale tree. SO i guess the Owl Idea is not limited as there are all kinds of lore nuggets floating around in the different cultural areas that could be utilized to allow for player growth and expanded personal stories.
I have had the same issue with these drivers and same video card. Rolled back the driver and it is back to normal for me.
Really the game was rate T or pegi whatever? Who cares it is not up to corporation’s governments or advocate groups to determine what is best for you and your family. This is as bad as saying that the remote controlled monster truck should only be for 8 years old and up and should not be given to a 3 year old because they might drive over their foot or there are some complex components with it(replacing and charging the battery) Yes there are going to be things the younger child can’t do but spend some time with them as a parent and a mentor to help them through the more complex tasks.
As far as the original post sadly there is no easy setting however with a bit of help from you and some strategic thinking your granddaughter will soon find the game fairly easy to grasp. I will also add that this game can add her to own development as she learns to function in a specified set of rule outside of the daily norm, and this can lead to greater success later on in life as she will be able to quickly adapts to new situations be it at work or at school because she will learn to identify new rules and restrictions and be able to apply solutions to problems quickly.
My two year old sits on my lap and press the skill cast buttons I say press 2 he presses 2. He has done this since 8 months with GW1. He has also developed a strong grasp of reality vs fantasy and clearly identifies what is make believe (pretend game in the back yard or something he has seen on tv or in a game) and what is reality. Before you go off about someone’s choice about what their children are experiencing stop and consider that as the parent they know what is best for their child at that point in life. Video games are not an unhealthy for children excessive video gaming is. GW is not filled will over the top blood and gore like many FPS games fantasy violence and stylized graphics are a far cry from the latest COD. Games cannot be lumped together into once massive group. This post was not title my 7 year old is struggling with COD, no the young child is having trouble with sword fighting and dressing up her ranger in the castle.
Before I get the “I am terrible parent because my son plays video games”. We also go swimming together 4 times a week, everything in moderation. Video games are becoming a huge part of family life and with correct guidance and support children will be able to develop lifelong skills from these games. The catch there is that the games have to be designed in a manner to foster these skills.
I know its an old post but the blind rage towards someone wanting to share an experience with a family member really set me on edge.

Core temp with the graph plugin works great to monitor your CPU and GPUZ will give you up to date GPU temp
Sandra lite also works but doesn’t work well while playing games.
Heat or bad stick of mem springs to mind. I would lean more towards heat as the problem resolves its self and doesn’t kill your computer. first thing is to blow out all the dust from your processor/video card make sure that all the fans are set to run at max. I know this will be loud just do it for testing purposes and see if her performance is better.
All CPU’s and GPUS are designed to slow down to save your hardware by lowing the clocks speeds so they generate less heat. Heat issues for me in the past have had me playing games with the case open sometimes a desktop fan blowing directly into the case.
On my current system I had to flip over my 210 MM side fan to pull the heat directly off the GPU as I had the same problem, once I flipped the fan over temperature on GPU and CPU both dropped by 15 degrees.
It is also possible that cleaning the heatsinks on the video card and the CPU is all that is needed depending on the air flow of your case.
Have you attempted to re download the game/client using the – repair command ?
