Rifle, especially on core, feels absolutely horrible. It’s garbage. I get kills with it (having ranged options is always strong) but it feels boring, weak, slow, and projectile hate is stronk. Some people like it I’m sure, but I feel like its been gimmicky since day 1.

Yeah…they tried to rework it awhile ago, and it was the saddest “rework” I’ve ever seen. They basically just gave it a backward dodge, then took away our ability to even make the auto-attacks pierce. I don’t know why they do some of this stuff. Was piercing auto-attacks on a rifle that you have to specifically trait for ever a balance problem?

IIRC you don’t even get the balls of dark energy from ascended rings. I think there’s a very small chance from the other trinkets, then a guaranteed chance from any armor or weapon you salvage. Just craft a cheap one-handed weapon and salvage it. Really not high of a price to pay considering you are crafting a legendary. The stabilizing matrices, you can buy off the trading post if you really really don’t want to do PvE.

I know lots of people feel that Warrior is sort of locked into 2 of their traitlines in any mode other than PvE (Defense, Discipline), and it limits builds a lot. Would giving all warriors the ability to have 5 second weapon swap fix this, or will Discipline still be necessary for Warrior’s sprint? Would this be too OP? Looking for opinions on this. I know I will get a lot of bias since this is the Warrior forum, but I’m sure many can look at it objectively.

I don’t know about others but I have tried playing warrior without Fast Hands and it feels almost like a completely different class. It’s a shame something so emblematic of Warriors should require a trait.

I probably haven’t played long enough to experience skill slowdown to the point i notice it’s effect in combat, as it’s such photon soup anyway that the only meaningful thing i can do is some skill rotation and hope that i tag as many people as possible while staying alive.

In my experience it only happens when all 3 servers are in the same place (with big groups obviously). And all you can do is literally auto-attack or use skills that have 0 cast-time. It’s not so much slowdown as it is just not being able to do anything. I know this is kinda off-topic, just wanted to let you know.

Warbringer is already way cheaper than Ad-Infinitum (the fractal backpack), and if 300g of that price goes toward a commander tag, that’s an even bigger pro to making it. Your complaint lacks perspective.

returning after more than a year

I’m relatively new to WvW but I have been playing it a ton lately so take this with a grain of salt. Warrior is still one of the best roamers, but they are outshined by Guard and Rev in zergs because those classes give way more useful boons to allies.

Main changes are Berserker is significantly weaker now. Berserker burst skills only count as 1 bar of adrenaline for the purposes of Adrenal Health and Cleansing Ire, which is a pretty big hit to the sustain of the class. I don’t necessarily know if it’s meta, but I’ve just been running core Warrior.

Another even bigger change is that the new elite spec willl be coming out with the next expansion, Spellbreaker, and it is designed with WvW in mind (especially the elite skill). You should read up on the class in the wiki. I think a lot of things will probably be changed balance-wise, but you can get a decent idea of it. There was a preview weekend last week where we got to test it in WvW and you can see peoples’ reactions in this forum as well. Personally I love the new Full Counter mechanic, but it does have its issues in other areas.

More servers were open a few months ago (I believe). Then recently every “host” server that has a pairing was considered full by Anet. I guess they are trying to get people to join the linked servers instead.

By “recently” I assume they mean a few months ago, not last week or anything.

Why is this a problem, just don’t play the spec then. It’s not like anything interesting has come out of wvw, ever, so why waste time worrying about balance in such a game mode.

Because huge aoe boonstrip that effects 10 people was so obviously designed with WvW in mind, that it’s kind of disappointing that it works against some aspects of WvW. Devs even said that it’s not designed for PvE.

I don’t think it’s a problem though with how many boons fly around in that mode. The bubble has 80 seconds of downtime. Even if you coordinate with a zerg to chain a few bubbles together, there’s still going to be a bunch of boons to corrupt in the downtime, or in the back line.

What if they made the 3 & 4 dagger skills into 1 skill instead? Like it would cast the 3 skill, then turn into the 4 skill. So you’d still get to have the combo of interrupt + big damage, but it wouldn’t take 2 weapon slots. I do like the quick interrupt, but it seems weird they’d dedicate 2 weapon skills of the new spec to this simple mechanic.

If you don’t get what I’m talking about, think offhand sword 4 (Impale —> Rip).

I have noticed this happening a lot more with Rev tablet, which apparently has the same properties as a blink spell. Moving that thing up a tiny set of stairs is way harder than it should be. Meanwhile, it can travel through an entire tower wall no problem. But heaven forbid I try to move it somewhere slightly above eye-level.

They aren’t linking WvW/PvP updates to expansions anymore. So they can ship those separately instead of all at once. If you think the new elite specs aren’t going to change much about WvW combat, you’re kidding yourselves. If you don’t want to buy it, then I respect that decision. But let’s not act like elite specs won’t be a complete game-changer.

I think the problem is just lack of variety in general. Since all utility skills are static and there aren’t that many weapon sets. There just isn’t that much to play around with there. For instance to use the shortbow, we’ll have to forgo using the shield. Then we’ll get a few more non-weapon skills that we can’t mix and match with others. From a build-crafting perspective, it feels so limited at times.

I don’t understand how people can justify arguing this:

Can you be effective in all Soldier’s stats? Realistically: no.

Can you be effective in all Dire stats? Proven and common knowledge: yes.

Is someone in Dire stats effective as someone in Berserker stats?
-In zergs: Yes, more effective than Berserker.
-In small scale: Yes, equally as effective, and in some situations, more effective.

So where is the justification that one person who is just as effective as another, gets to have ~10k more HP and ~1000 more toughness?

Condis need rework/heavy nerfs, there can be no argument against that.

So you’re quoting a post saying that soldier is not working and it leads you to the conclusion that condis needs to be fixed ?

To me, if soldier is not working, then soldier needs a fixing.

Soldier’s and Dire are both “defensive” stat combos 2/3rds vit and toughness and 1 stat dedicated to power or condition damage. So why does 1 do so much more damage than the other? Because the power and condition damage builds are inherently unbalanced in the sense that power needs 3 stats where condition really only needs 1, maybe 2. The problem isn’t with soldier’s, it’s with condition damage. The only way to “fix” soldier’s to be on-par with Dire is adding a ton of precision and ferocity. Then it would be pretty OP and almost a no-brainer for many classes. Doesn’t that tell you something? It’s not soldier’s that’s the problem.

Alright as a little update, I think not using Blood Reckoning was one of my biggest problems. I don’t know why I didn’t change to this before, but the burst heal is soooo much better than healing signet for sustain, especially in instances where you take massive damage quickly. I no longer have to just run around useless waiting for my signet to top me off, and the cooldown on BR is very low as well.

@Roderick, those are some interesting points you bring up about utility skills. I have always just brought banners and FGJ – all offensive support abilities. So it would make sense I have very little utility or defensive options. I just assumed that if I didn’t bring these things, then I’m not really doing my job. Is that true to an extent? I definitely see the need for Endure pain during the nightmare CM though. Maybe I’ll start being more selfish with utilities for really challenging content. I guess the offensive support abilities are no use if I’m dead.

Old habits die hard lol. I think I tried BR a few times but I never really got used to it. That’s on me of course, I will adjust. I’ll probably just tough it out a bit and wait for the expansion before I make any huge equipment changes though. You never know how things will change. Thanks for the advice, I appreciate it!

Warriors heal by doing damage

I assume you mean with Blood Reckoning? Maybe that’s a big issue then, because I have always used healing signet. I guess the passive heal just isn’t enough at this point. I probably need to get better at using Blood Reckoning in that case. I agree it is sad about Power PS though. I get that Berserker meta was the norm for years and it got really stale, but I don’t think making condi so much stronger is a better alternative. I wish they were just equally viable, but hey…no sense in dwelling on that I guess.

I have played Warrior the most out of any class, and I think it’s the one I’m most familiar with. But recently in high level fractals I am just feeling completely useless a lot of the time. I’m not the best player by any stretch, but I feel like I have no survivability whatsoever. I know condi PS is the preferred build at the moment, but I (rather stubbornly) don’t want to convert my dude to a condi build after all these years.

Is Power PS just not really viable, or do I just need to git gud? The build on metabattle has pretty high ratings, but this comment also stood out to me:

Overrated, No survivability, Has no place in high level fractals imo.

That’s pretty much exactly how I feel. But I also fully realize it could just be me sucking and my own bias is making me think it’s the build. Anybody play power PS in high level fractals like CM 100? How do you stay alive without a healer? Are there any build variations you’d suggest? Should I just scrap the idea of Power PS and try another class?

Still with the loyalty thingy now even people u transfered to overpopulated servers will think twice b4 transferring again.

Its only 1 pip and theyre going to reduce it to 1 week.

What? Why? They should increase it to 1 year. These server hopping bandwagoners that just want to win have been ruining the game for years. They should be punished for it.

I agree the bandwaggoning sucks, but if they increase it to 1 year, then nobody will ever leave the top servers. Going down tiers and not receiving rewards for a year? Yeah….no incentive to leave whatsoever. You are in fact punishing the people who do consider leaving at that point. It works both ways.

Mainly PvE player here, but casually play WvW. Just wanted to make some things clear. And I will preface this by saying I do not think they should reduce the rank requirement.

PvErs are not going to ruin your mode in the long-term. I’m sure the quality of play has gone down temporarily, but I guarantee all of the “casuals” will get filtered into one of two categories:

1) They will take a liking to the mode and slowly start to adjust/learn. That means getting WvW-appropriate gear, asking questions, joining voice comms, etc.

2) They will have a bad time, look at how long it will take them to get to rank 2000, and quit.

It will take a bit of time, sure, but this is how things will play out. Nobody likes dying over and over and over again in any game mode, and they will eventually adjust or quit. It’s absurd to think someone will mindlessly bang their head against a brick wall for thousands of hours for a shiny skin.

I also want to say that PvErs don’t solely play the game for rewards, they play the game because they enjoy it. Rewards are pointless if you quit the game because you don’t enjoy it. In addition to this, if you really care that someone who has spent less time in WvW than you can get the same skin as you, then rewards are also pretty important to you as well. You can say otherwise, but people wouldn’t be arguing so passionately in this forum if it wasn’t the case. So these arguments that one “type” of player plays for solely superficial reasons, while another “type” just plays for the pure love of the game is such BS. Both “types” love the game, clearly.

Which brings me to my last point…why are we even categorizing people into these “types” anyway? You don’t have to exclusively play one type of mode. I know people on this forum and the people in your WvW guilds are hardcore WvW players and probably spend the vast majority of the time there, but that same type of experience does not apply to everybody in this game. I’ve been playing a lot more recently because of a recent transfer. I’m playing because it’s fun, challenging, and I want to get better. I’m not even earning pips because of the recent transfer, but I don’t mind. I get that WvWs are a super loyal bunch, just don’t make everyone an outsider.

With that said, I have found the majority of WvW players to be pretty welcoming (more than I expected). I know prestige items are cool, just try to keep some perspective here. Some people are a bit overly defensive about the mode to the detriment of the game.

Looking for general advice for WvW Rev

I’ve been playing a Ventari/Mallyx rev in WvW for about a week now. It’s definitely hard to get used to, just looking for some advice or tips from anyone who has played it quite a bit.

I’m roughly running a build similar to this one:

However I am using Corruption instead of Invocation. The idea is I can pretty-much have Resistance on demand and draw conditions from allies while surviving myself. Then I have a lot of burst AoE heal with Ventari of course.

In general, here are a few things I’m having trouble with.

Energy: In general it seems like I can barely even use weapon skills outside of autoattack otherwise I’ll use all my energy needed for more important utility skills. I would say this is the biggest issue I’m running into at the moment. Am I just going about this the wrong way? It seems like there are just not enough resources to go around.

Staff: How the hell do I use this weapon? lol. It doesn’t really feel like I can do much in fights as a melee character. Along with the energy problem I mentioned above, it seems almost useless. However I know it’s in most WvW builds, so I must be doing something wrong.

Tablet positioning: Any general tips about positioning ventari’s tablet? I’ve just been shuffling it along with the tag on pushes and maybe using the reflect in chokepoints. Any additional advice or tricks with this thing?

Thanks in advance for any tips. I know it’s not an easy build to pull off, but I’m enjoying the different type of gameplay it brings.

I noticed this in the personal story as well (pre-HoT). All NPC allies will just stand there and watch you fight. They will have their weapons sheathed and are obviously not engaged in combat mode. You can get them to aggro to enemies if you get an enemy to hit them, otherwise they will do literally nothing. It’s not a matter of them being weak, they’re clearly bugged in some way.

I think people are misunderstanding the problem. Go into any story instance with a lot of fighting and an ally and you will see. It’s really apparent on the Claw Island missions for instance. Ally NPCs will not fight unless they are struck by an enemy (often incidentally as enemies don’t seem to aggro on them either).

Status changed to online when leaving groups

I noticed lately when I leave LFG groups, my status is automatically changed to Online when it was previously Invisible. It’s pretty annoying and can catch you off-guard if you aren’t paying close enough attention. I would appreciate this being looked into. I remember this happening to me as early as this most recent Mad King festival. Sorry if this was reported before but I couldn’t find it by searching.

I have always found The Dreamer to be very annoying. I realize that a lot of the people who make it love the sound though. So perhaps a solution is to make the sound client-side for the weapon owner, so they can still hear it but it doesn’t bother everyone else around them? Maybe that’s going too far, but it could possibly be a compromise. I guess I’m working under the assumption that people who actually make the weapon love the noise.

I’m looking to complete my last step for my fractal capacitor, and it requires a Crystallized Mist Essence. The wiki says that it drops from lvl 20+ fractals. My question is: did that change with the new update? The fractals seem to be re-balaned around level 100 being the maximum ie: no agony damage until level 20, etc. Did the levels for the mist essence change too?
