That kinda sucks, most of my characters are screwed then. I think just starting everyone out at zero points spent would’ve been the least harmful, allowing us to chose, but nothing I can do about that.

I guess there aren’t enough non-80 players to warrant the respec option.

So I’ve asked in game and came to the conclusion that it’s not possible to respec your character under the new system. I shall explain and hopefully someone can tell me that I’ve just missed something really obvious somewhere.

For example, my Necromancer is level 25 and when I logged in the game client put all his points into Well Training and Death Magic. But I cannot seem to find how to remove those points and put them where I would like them. Surely he’s not going to be stuck in Wells and Death Magic? Previously one could click the reset traits button to respec, but no such button exists that I’ve found.

None of my characters are yet 80 and they all almost all have this problem. Any assistance is much appreciated.

Am I the only person that finds this to be rather crappy. My last gem purchase was in March. Since launch I spent more on gems than I would probably spend on wow in a year…. but they only give them to people that spent money within a specific time frame.

It’s not the fact I don’t get a kite, it’s just the … crappyness of how they are being issued that bothers me.

And then they will add them to the gem store so those of us that spent more than enough money on the game already and go and spend more to buy a kite. Just seems… crappy.

Ok so it’s been almost two weeks now, and this issue has not been resolved and no one has contacted me regarding this situation. May I say that this is an entirely unacceptable level of customer service.

It’s bad enough at the most basic level, but then to have someone of seniority (yourself Ms. Gray) not bother to follow-up and resolve a problem that you said you would, is appalling.

A problem so easily fixed, turns into something much worse than what it really is :S

I appreciate your taking the time to look into this Ms. Gray. The ticker number is: Incident: 130226-002544.

When I referenced the change to the item, I meant to it’s tool-tip (which was updated). Code is a funny thing, especially in mmo’s and the strangest things can happen from something very trivial. But it does seem that no one else is having this problem, or I was the only person with a kit in the bank? the latter is not likely. So I’m stumped on the cause.

Customer support were very polite in their reply, but I’m just left feeling rather stuck, because I’m not sure what the next step is.

P.S. I had another thought, it could be a bug relating to deleting a character. I’ve gone through and pretty much started over from my launch characters and made all new ones, it’s possible that when I deleted that character that I bought the kit on (even though the kit was in the bank) that the kit when with it. Again, just a thought.

Recently I purchased two Self-Style Hair kits from the cash shop, (when they were on sale), and this is indicated on my purchase history in game. I used one on one of my Charr characters and I should still have one left.

With yesterdays patch I noticed that the kits also have some new hair colours, so I wanted to check them out (particularly as I’d really like actual, real blue hair on my Asura, who has blue skin), but when I went to my bank, the hair kit is gone. And as I said, I only used one.

I have carefully examined the bags of each of my characters and my entire bank. But I cannot find them. My guess is that when the tool-tip on the item was updated to reference the exclusive hair colours, this caused a bug that removed my kit… but that’s just a guess.

I contacted customer support, and cannot fault them for their reply time which was within the hour, however they tell me there is no way to track items, or use of items or anything of that kind, so in short; there is nothing they can do.

So, I have given Anet money for something, they have ‘lost’ that something, and there is nothing they can do, so they get to keep the money. This seems very wrong to me. We are in 2013, systems should be in place to track and monitor these things, especially when real money is involved… heck Blizzard can tell me how many times my character has sneezed, but ya’ll can’t return my hair-style kit that you removed :S

Since the launch of GW2 the ArenaNet we know and love from GW1 died a quick death, and this new draconian Anet was born. This is another example of them shoving stuff down people’s throats rather than working to better their own infrastructure.

Not as if they even have to invent their own security, it’s 2013 there is a litany of past mmos and security measures to learn from.

An ‘optional’ password change, or ‘recommended’ password change would suffice. ‘Mandatory’ is very Orwellian.

Odd, which driver set and which cards are you using? Are you sure they are a matched set with matched clock settings?

Outside of my #1 slot card always tracking 10-15 degrees hotter than the bottom card they track fairly evening as far as load goes.

BTW: Any SLI “issues” is a Nvidia problem, not an GW2/Anet problem.

Nvidia have stated that they have done as much as they can to make GW2 run well on their cards, the rest is up to ArenaNet, who seem in no hurry whatsoever to optimize their game at all. It’s a mess atm.

All good questions, 1hr 17minutes after the ‘start’ and still no word from Anet. If it’s bugged, then fine, just tell us. Ignoring the problem solves nothing, not communicating with your customers is worse than having a bugged event.

The new Living Story event is bugged on Tarnished Coast. It has begun in Wayferer but not in Diessa. We have been waiting 45 minutes, with many many people streaming into the zone to ask if it’s started.

If it is bugged or whatever the reason for the delay, please communicate to your customers rather than just ignoring the issues in silence.

How to start the flame and frost story?

Check in with the heralds for updates. There are hints of things to come already in the game.


The playable Living Story content will start appearing tomorrow (January 29) at around noon Pacific Time in Wayfarer Foothills and Diessa Plateau. When the events start in Diessa Plateau, you’ll be sent an in-game mail letting you know about it. However, if you’re already logged in when that happens, you need to change maps to receive it.

Would be great if that was in the patch notes, and where are these heralds anyway? I’ve searched LA and Hoelbrak, asked in chat… then i gave up.

I too was looking for the event, the patch notes are as follows:

When I asked on various map chats about the event, people said that it hasn’t started yet, but the patch note indicates that it has started;

While I cannot help with the problem, I did report during beta that there was no colourblind setting in the options. Obviously this was ignored, and no effort is being made to accommodate anyone who wish to play the game with any kind of disability or impairment.

so i take it you work for anet now since you can say with authority that they are not making any effort to supply a fix……good to know.

Not at all, were I working for Anet I would’ve written up a dev blog explaining exactly what the company is doing to support users with disabilities and impairments. I apologize if I gave the impression I was working for them, or had inside knowledge.

Each patch I read through the notes and try the game again, only to realize within seconds that there has been zero progress made to optimizing the graphics engine. For a 2012 release game it’s very poor in it’s performance (in relation to how it looks). Just standing still in LA, with no people around, causes horrific fps lag. Walking through a city or zone with people causes them to suddenly appear and then vanish again. WvW … well we all know about that.

I’ve been hoping since beta that progress would be made in this area, but it’s been months and so far, nothing. Even the fps limiter doesn’t work, so i spike from 115 to 22, and everything in between.

Do we know at all if there is a dev team at ArenaNet actively working on the games performance, bugs and complete lack of optimization? I really would like to play the game, but so far it’s a no go

My earlier statement in the previous thread was buried, so I shall repeat it here. Please note that I am not asking for the Halloween event to start ‘now’, I’m saying that not giving a time is extremely unprofessional. And should a technical issue arise and cause a delay, you can create a forum post and tell people that there has been a delay, and you then update that forum post every 10-15 minutes until it’s fixed. This is called being a AAA mmo. Hell you even put it in the launcher too, for people that don’t visit the forums.

Six days with no reply, after multiple emails and a violation of my account information, against my express wishes in the aforementioned emails. This is in addition to a prior seven or so days of not being able to play the game at all.

I’m also waiting to be provided with contact information for NCsoft directly, that I may write to them and lodge a formal complaint.

It is beyond atrocious that an alleged AAA mmo, launching in 2012 does not have sufficient infrastructure in place to deal with these kinds of mistakes. It doesn’t matter that there is an ‘are you sure’ confirmation, people will always make these mistakes, it’s going to happen.

I as a paying customer, do not care that it’s ‘labor intensive’ (nor do I for one second believe it). You should have a system in place that allows the customer to submit a ticket, and have GM (IN GAME) inform the customer of what will happen, remove the item from thier bag and refung the currency. It’s your own fault for not creating a ‘sell back’ feature.

If you had either (or both) of those systems in place, imagine all the ‘labor intensive’ tickets you wouldn’t be stressing over, and your customers can actually go back to enjoying your game.

All that aside, it’s very disturbing that ArenaNets attitude is one of ’it’s too much work, so we aren’t gonna do anything about it’. I guess we are all learning just what a subscription get’s us, and what happens we aren’t paying every month.

Oh guess what, I got a reply after my ticket was escalated…. they changed my account name from @plaync to the email address tied to my account. This was done against my express wishes that it not be changed to an email address, that I wish to continue to use the name provided my by Ncsoft.

I have asked them to correct this violation of my account.

This also screws up my GW1 login information too.

Until ArenaNet has sufficient security measures in place, using an email address to log in with is not secure imo. I am shocked that they ignore what we write in our support tickets, they read a few key words and that’s all.

This isn’t the first time we have heard people being banned for being ‘afk’. ArenaNet has some serious issues.

I’m not a mother, I don’t have children, but I go afk to get a drink, check my email etc… people go afk in mmo’s, it’s normal, everyone does it. They [arenanet] really don’t seem to understand how mmo’s work :s

Don’t feel bad Ben, no modern mmo should launch without sufficient security options for players, and without back-end systems in place to deal with hacks when they occur (i.e. the ability to restore lost items/gold).

Personally I’m nervous about this ‘roll back’ feature. It’s a very ‘blanket’ response, what will happen with people that bought the wrong item with marks, or accidentally deleted their favorite mini pet… this is 2012, and you have countless mmo’s before you to learn how to run your company and what services need to be provided. See, now ya’ll got me started

Oxymo, that solution won’t work for people with @plaync account names, because @plaync isn’t a real email address. It’s also quite disturbing that ArenaNet are aware of these issues for six months and do nothing.

As a side note, I managed today (don’t ask me how, I don’t know) to submit a support ticket. So, in about eight days I will get a generic copy paste email telling me go and put the kettle on, which will in no way help me log in to the game. :S

That’s interesting, when I log in, it wants to ‘validate email’ as you say (as it always has) I press cancel, and in my case, it logs me out. Prior to Tuesdays patch I would just ignore the message and click play.

I wonder why for you when you hit cancel it gives you an entirely different window, and for me it just logs me out.

I use a Naga and Nostromo (also a Blackwidow.. the mechanical keys are excellent). I could not play games without the Nostromo and Naga, I highly recommend them.

Will take a little getting used to, but not long, and then you wonder how you ever gamed with a keybaord.

Absolutely no one should be telling you to ‘’get over it noob’‘. You lost items/coin due to a fault with the game and that absolutely should be corrected, I don’t care if it was 1copper or 1000gold.

It’s little comfort, but you are not the only one being ignored

I will remind you though, that for some ludicrous reason, ArenaNet does not have the ability to ‘restore’ lost items/currency. I think they can do ‘account wide rollbacks’ but that’s probably going to do more harm than good. Once they sort themselves out, hopefully they can restore your lost gold

I am not able to access support (it won’t let me log in), they appear to not have telephone support, and the email I sent about three weeks ago concerning another issue has yet to get a reply.

Additionally, people get ‘generic copy/paste’ answers from customer support, to which you must then repeat yourself, wait another five to eight days… rinse and repeat.

This thread will not likely get my problem fixed for me individually ( I have no delusions of that), but hopefully draws more attention to a problem that affects some people (myself included).

More than likely a complete waste of time, but I figured I’d try. It’s now four days and counting, that I have been able to log in and play the game.

I have posted in threads that cover the same problem as myself, and we are generally swept under the rug, (merged) – with no resolution.

So I have little recourse now but to create my own thread regarding this problem.

I use a @plaync account name to log in to GW1 and 2 (as well as my NCsoft master account). I have no interest in changing this to an email address, that can be more easily acquired. Currently the log in name and linked email address are different, thereby making the account a tiny but more secure. Since the changes in the last patch, the ‘Play’ button on the launcher window is grayed out, and I am unable to play.

I’d ask for information on a timely resolution to this matter, but we are well past ‘timely’, so I can only hope for some kind of resolution ‘soon’.

The general attitude from the ‘new’ ArenaNet, seems to be ‘we have your money, we don’t need to help you’.

P.S. When did GW1 ArenaNet turn into this new ‘Orwellian Corporate Monster, ArenaNet’ ? It’s so sad, you guys were amazing.

Authenticator Questions/Concerns [merged]

Would be nice if possible to do it by hardware rather than ip.
Even i’m getting sick of having to goto my e-mail everytime i reboot my pc or router.

Better still give us a mobile authentication prog.

I read somewhere on here that the developers are working on a mobile authenticator. They were working on something in-house which they have now scrapped and are going with a ‘google authenticator’ whatever that means. Why can’t they just use the same thing wow/rift/swtor use?

I would also like to know how to do this please. I use an @plaync account name, which combined with a linked email is currently more secure (imo, given the current state of GW2 and ArenaNets security failings). But since the patch I cannot log in because the new system won’t let me without a ‘valid’ email.

Prior to the patch I would just click play, but now that is grayed out.

This is day two of not being able to log in to the game.

Indeed, I get the feeling (I’ve been thinking this for a couple weeks) that they [ArenaNet] are overwhelmed, in every department, almost to the point of indecision. I don’t think they anticipated what being a AAA mmo is like, and I don’t think they expected the amount of bugs and problems that have occurred (which to us as gamers, we expect).

That’s the feeling I get anyway, and thats why I fear they are being so silent… they don’t know what to say, to whom, or about what. I hope that MoP will alleviate a lot of the pressure, and given ArenaNet time to catch it’s breath so to speak. The ArenaNet we ‘see’ now, is not the same on that we saw in GW1 or leading up to GW2.

I’m going to wait, I wish to continue to use my @plaync address, as I feel it’s more secure than using an email address, while there is little security on our accounts. As i mentioned in my post on the thread thats now been merged… email address are fine for WoW because they have behind the scenes security and authenticators.

The lack of customer service is disheartening, that’s all. I appreciate they cannot tell us in great detail what is wrong, but some kind of acknowledgment and regular updates that we have not been forgotten, would not go amiss.

I am in the same position and as of today I can no longer play GW2. And I take umbrage to the forum moderators that keep merging threads that are not related, please do not merge this thread, with the ‘Verify’ thread, this is a different issue relating solely to the use of @plaync @ncsoft log ins.

I’m a little disheartened because we have no word on this, and consequently are unable to log in to the game. This not being a subscription game one cannot cancel ones sub, so how do we get the attention of the developers, and not be ‘merged’ and lost in other threads.

Likewise. Combining them (which also then affects GW1 as well) makes the account less secure.

It’s fine for WoW and Battle.net because they have a lot of behind the scenes security and Authenticators, so you are more secure even though you use an email address.

I have the same sort of problem. I use @plaync for GW1, GW2. I DO NOT use an email address to log in, the @plaync is more secure (imo, because its not an email address flying around the Internet).

Previously I have ignored the verification and just clicked play, but as of now the play button is grayed out… I imagine this is to do with some security changes or some other ‘barrier’ between the players and the game being created in the name of security.

So can we please verify with our plaync names. Until then I am unable to log in.

Since the first BWE i’ve had fps problems, and always had faith that ANet would sort it out. We are now launched and things are getting worse not better. Since the last patch especially I’ve been getting insane fps drops (to below 20) for no apparent reason. Fps is never consistent, anything large scale is a joke to try and play. I’m also now getting the ‘blue’ flickering and tearing and distortions. Along with guild emblems and character portrait flickers.

I get fps shutdowns when i pan the camera, sometimes even just walking into a zone obliterates my fps. Shadows on ultra is a huge no-no. The only way to get consistent fps is to put everything on the lowest possible settings… something that, given my computer specs, I find insulting.

P.S> I’d like to submit a ticket about this, to work with someone from ANet on the issue so it can be resolved, but there seems to be no way to submit a ticket only a bug report.
