As a warrior who uses hammer in every aspect of the game (PvE, WvW, and PvP, all with varying success, I just like the style), I please request that Arenanet not take Daecollo’s post about the warrior hammer seriously, along with the other 5 posts he makes daily about things that don’t need fixing.

Please, hammer is fine, l2p.

I’m one of those guys that sticks to a particular combo of weapons because it’s what I like to play with, and I stuck with mace MH/shield OH from launch until last week. Honestly, the stuns and interrupts are not quite worth the slot if you have a hammer (which I usually do), the damage is not as high if you never complete the last swing, and, well, I like the parry ability.

It’s just too slow for anything but PvE, and honestly, if you don’t mind using a hammer, there’s no reason to use a mace.

[Idea] A Defensive Burst skill for warrior

I think this is an intelligent way to address an issue. It wouldn’t be like you were cluttering up our bars or granting us “too many options,” rangers have a basic set of skills for all the different types of pets they have and that doesn’t get overwhelming.

Even if this idea were simplified and the potential for group support were removed, I think having a defensive adrenal ability as an alternative would be outstanding.

5. Stuns and other disabilities hitting one player from multiple players should not stack. For instance getting paralyzed by 2 mesmers and then killed by a thief in WvW and being unable to move and watching your HP go from full to zero in 3 seconds is disheartening and makes you want to throw you computer out the window.

I found this one amusing. You are, in essence, complaining that three other players combined their builds and skills to kill you. You are complaining that a 3v1 happened and you lost. I wonder how kitten you really are to complain about such a thing.

By the way, if this situation warrants such a gripe, there is such a thing as Stability. The rest of us modify our builds to counter or at least accommodate our own frustrations, there’s no reason that you cannot either.

How much HP for Vigorous Shouts?

Samulus.3025

Since I was kind enough to explain it to Guardians on their mace skill Faithful strike, here is the formula for this trait.

40+((Level^2) x 0.18) + (Healing x 0.8)

so at 0 healing at level 80: 40 + 1152 = 1192

at 1500 healing at level 80: 40+1152+1200= 2192

Not sure what the point of putting the formula with 0 healing is. You are required to get 300 points in healing power just to get the healing shout skill. Saying its 1192 for 0 healing is somewhat confusing to noobs, because they are thinking*oh, i don’t have any healing power gear so this is what it is", when in actuality its a bit higher since they have 300 healing power default to get that trait.

The formula is there for folks who know how to apply the math. For people who don’t like to complain and analyze instead, the zero is just a placeholder for any number they choose. Math is fun!

I’m confused

1500 healing = 2192
1464 healing = 2363?

(And before anyone asks, the food buff is an omnomberry bar, no healing power)

I am willing to bet you have a medic bonus from WvW.

Both of the Blocks will go off if a range attacks you. This doesn’t always happens, but if you have the reflect trait its quite annoying. They need to fix that as well as either get rid of the cancelling or make it that cancelling it will trigger the attack. A lot of the warriors weapon skills need tweaking. Especially traits since they are in a lot of random places.

I agree many warrior abilities do need tweaking but I have never had the ability cancel from a ranged attack with the reflect trait. I do remember it cancelling on a range attack while NOT having the reflect trait, but it’s been so long since I didn’t have the trait that I can’t remember the conditions under which it happened. The idea that it randomly cancels in the middle of it’s duration to ranged attacks is completely false with the reflect ability, I use this ability MORE as a ranged block than anything else, and I’ve done that for months.

I do just fine with a hammer, I came back to it after 2 months and realized I was using it wrong. Dolan and Seren have it right, hammer 4 is an ability to use after the targets are already controlled (to extend the control time) or to hit someone you know is on the way (defensive.)

As for hammer 3… I almost agree with this. It can REALLY cripple a LOT of people in the right situation, it sorta makes sense to me that it is limited in that respect. If you weigh this with the “how often are you actually in that situation” argument, I’d have to say, “hardly ever,” and you’d have a great point.

No, there is not a single situation I can think of in my play experience where I would NEED or feel like I NEEDED to cancel this ability for 3 strikes of adrenaline. Other than the fact that I was done blocking and wanted to continue an attack, that is. I’m happy I’m not forced to block the full duration in those instances.

The point that you seemed to have missed is that this ability is meant to be triggered to allow the player 1 second to block an attack. The fact that it gives you ANYTHING upon an unsuccessful block (i.e. you pushed it at the wrong time, mistyped/clicked, were just plain bad) is gravy.

Now, the fact that you are given the ability to cancel midway is irrelevant, because the warrior is given the same rewards whether he cancels immediately or waits the full duration and lets the ability expire. There is only one situation in which this is BAD, i.e. the player is experiencing lag (internal or external) and did not wish to cancel. This is an unfortunate side effect and is not the case for the majority of players.

Does this mean this ability is broken?
No. It gives an option, however useless or horribly situational 10% of the options for the abilities use may be.

Does this mean the ability, as a whole, needs to be buffed?
No. The ability is solid, especially considering the trait that can be specced into to improve it. Yes, this trait discourages the cancelling of this ability (the thing some people are saying is useless) but that doesn’t mean that every warrior needs to be adjusted to accommodate one trait.

I think some people here don’t have their priorities straight. Go check out the “Comprehensive List of Warrior Bugs” thread and choose a topic that wouldn’t mean a month’s worth of waiting for a bugfix that hardly improves anything (COUGH Harpoongun buffs.)

I don’t see the adrenal reward as lackluster so much as I see it as a concession for not blocking. These abilities are meant to block, even considering your posited, comparable mesmer abilities. The warrior is meant to be less of a “blocker” than the guardian because of multiple factors, so as a result the abilities are made to be more skill-based to land a block. This issue is even more exacerbated by the blocking of a mesmer. I think these skills are just fine, I think they are able to be cancelled just in case a person doesn’t want to wait out the whole process, but the fact that it exists makes it an accessory feature, not useless, considering the fact that it is really only there to provide a benefit of not landing a block.

At least give us a decent outmanned buff

in WvW

Samulus.3025

I currently like the way it is right now… Once the servers are done being swapped around and free xfers go away there won’t be such a wide player differential. A scaling buff to help the undermanned team just turns into Wintergrasp in WoW and that was a highly undesirable way of doing it if you ask me.

If 500 people show up and there are only 50 people defending, the 500 people should be able to take that point unless the 50 people are phenomenal. I wouldn’t begrudge a small buff possibly, but I kinda like the one we have now.

For the record, I have only played WvWvW for about 2 weeks now, and am one of the “leftovers” on HoD.

Fixes for WvWvW

I honestly feel as though sPvP is not quite my cup of tea due to its sterility… Mind you, I’m not saying it is horrible or that it’s a bad aspect of the game, it’s very fun. I just can’t do it for hours upon end like I can WvW, because unlike sPvP, you can make advances that affect your activities in PvE. Plus, it’s just the nature of conquest, as someone said above, it needs to feel like a war, not a game.

As a result, I have to politely disagree with your proposed changes. sPvP, PvE, and WvWvW are the three major options of play in GW2, and I love the diversity that they all bring to the table which enables you to play your character differently to fit your task at hand. To make one more like the other would be disrupting this balance.

How would you fix the warrior?

in Warrior

Posted by: Samulus.3025

Samulus.3025

My changes would be in the general direction of giving more protective capability and altering adrenal skills. Right now, the Warrior doesn’t fill any single role as well as 2-3 other classes that can also fit that role. I’m not asking for better performance, I am asking for competitive performance.

In my opinion, the guardian is the group protector, but an adequately-traited warrior should be able to outperform anyone in terms of soaking up damage done to just him, especially if they dump all of their points into making themselves fill such a role. The shield is not quite protective enough, despite it being one of the only warrior weapons with two dedicated traits. The +90 toughness really needs to be changed to a flat 5-10% damage reduction, or as someone said above, 5-10% chance to block an attack.

I agree with the posters above in their statements about the near-worthlessness of adrenal skills. I’ll outline my problems with the most obvious ones below:

Flurry: Only useful for the immobilization unless you are a condition build, and even then it’s difficult to get full effect in pvp since it ALSO immobilizes you for the duration of the attack.

Skull Crack: The stun used to be 3 seconds, but now it’s 2. Why? Why is a full rage bar only worth two seconds of stun with less damage than the chain attack. The only good thing about this skill is that it is the only mace swing that hits as soon as you push the button.

Arcing Slice: See all other posts about this skill.

Earthshaker: Pretty solid skill other than the fact that pathing/use on slopes renders half of the targets unaffected. Even so, when compared to the VERY similar Skull Crack, Earthshaker has the following:
1. Better damage to the target
2. The same stun duration to the target
3. A blast combo possibilty.
4. The ability to hit infinite targets inside a ring.

Why?

In my opinion, the worth of these skills could be fixed by doing two things: Increasing damage/effects of all adrenaline skills by 100% potency and decreasing the buildup speed of adrenaline by 50%. In this way you can give warriors the extra utility, complexity, and added burst umph that they need while not increasing their overall damage. It would be a sort of penalty for not killing a warrior before we finally come down on them like a ton of bricks.

I am also a denizen of HoD.

I have been playing WvW for 2 weeks tomorrow, so only 13 days. Pretty rotten luck eh? I had no idea until the last week or so that HoD had been so high in ranking, but I did know that our server had all of a sudden gone dead. Hell, I thought getting your kitten stomped on a regular basis was a normal, frequent occurance in WvW, so it never bothered me. In fact, this has turned into my favorite aspect of this game, losing or not.

We are vastly outnumbered all of the time. It is a major achievement to take a tower with the status quo. With all this adversity, we have a chance for this server to develop a loyal core of lead-on-the-fly players.

As a result, I would be more inclined to say we as a now-low-pop server should just tough it out and show up to get our kitten kicked until we learn something. I would not be in favor of having us bumped down a bracket so as not to set a precedent. Let some folks realize nothing gets done unless they show up and try. Run headlong into those zergs guys! Take repair damage! Quit crying about it and change it!

Shields are scaled too small

in Asura

Posted by: Samulus.3025

Samulus.3025

I know this is an extension of a few other topics here on how small Asura weapons are, but this one actually bothers me.

On other races, the basic wooden shield covers the whole upper half of their body when drawn, why can’t the Asuras have the same coverage? For the first 60 levels of play on my warrior I felt as if I was never going to find something bigger than a buckler-sized shield…

The issue seems to have been addressed in the past since the shield is actually smaller when it is on their back i.e. undrawn. It looks absolutely tiny here.

Other than that, I absolutely love everything about my racial choice, even the weapons being smaller than they should be isn’t so bad, though as someone mentioned, it is harder to see the detail.

Samulus.3025

Hah, no kidding huh Corrian? That, in my opinion, is one of the strengths in this game as playing one of a possibility of three approaches to your class has never been fun for me. But I will try out Spiked Armor for sure, your point about the lockdown gaps is actually very good and I hadn’t thought of it that way. As an auxiliary question, does retaliation scale with power or cond. damage?

Ksielvin, your post was also very helpful, I guess I always took Defy Pain because it “made the most sense,” and what you said about not being able to rely on it consistently is pretty much my problem with it exactly. It does function as a stun break, I sparred with my brother and it did happen to break a stun once, but that factor is an order of magnitude lower than our other issue with respect to its reliability. With your info I’m just going to have to go ahead and try out the mace/shield and sword/mace idea to see if it feels right. If the cooldown reduction is as useful as the similar trait for shields, I may find that I really like it. Of course, at the expense of the warhorn in my secondary set… Unless I take the mace trait and then use the warhorn for weakness then switch back to primary… Bah, the tweaking will never end.

Thanks, guys.

Warrior Heresy? Too many good Traits!

in Warrior

Posted by: Samulus.3025

Samulus.3025

When I started playing this game, I already knew what build I wanted to have when I got to endgame: the tanked-out shout warrior that specializes in lockdown in favor of actual damage. Basically, the support/lockdown warrior that is a pain to kill.

I’ve recently arrived to a problem in my build, though, being that the only two weapons I’ve decided I REALLY like are the mace/shield. I actually leveled from 1-80 with this weapon set always present and my secondary set varied. That being said, I have general problems selecting my traits in the toughness line because the only mace trait and both shield traits reside there and I would like to have all three… But I would be using that grandmaster slot on something, well, not grandmaster.

Would you guys think that me selecting Sundering Mace over Defy Pain or Spiked Armor would be a bad idea? I am toying with the idea of playing in sPvP and WvW with my secondary set being sword/mace in order to maximize the “wasted trait” by having it active in both sets.

On another not, I have a very similar problem with the fact that I like a warhorn in my secondary in WvW, but I’ve already come to love shouts…
