I’m not sure about the math behind it but the average score from the 3 defense events needs to be high enough to receive all chests. I think 1 bronze and 2 gold work, 2 silver and 1 gold. And so on. You can’t afk or slack through it and expect full rewards. :P
Killstealing doesn’t exist in GW2, KS could mean “Kill Sharing” in GW2 because that’s how it works here. You can’t steal kills, but you can share them and the rewards aren’t split, everyone gets full.
I don’t understand why anyone would run without the helmet. How do you attach an organic head to lava? And why would you even if you could? The body has no function. With this outfit on, your character is no longer a normal living being. You can not mix like that. I propose making the helmet non removable.
As someone who knows coding I can imagine that this issue is a major headache to them.
Hi
As I understand it, daze normally interrupts and prevents downed enemies from casting abilities. Why doesn’t Diversion work though? It makes no sense at all, seems like a bug unless it was done this way for balance purposes which I don’t see much of a reason for anyway.
What’s the opinion and history on this?
Regards
Oah, well it wasn’t like that on my female Sylvari.
See it like this, Tyria != the real world. In Tyria gods are very important to the human race, not believing in them is out of the question. I know it’s very popular to get and do whatever you want in this century, but I really don’t agree with it.
Hey
After the recent popularity of Guardians in high tier matches paired with my own experience in game, I’ve started to question their power and utility. To me it feels like Guardians are an extension to Warriors. You’d think that a Guardian is supposed to be the more durable and support oriented profession, while Warriors are geared towards damage. Both being heavily armored, you could assume that they’re supposed to be a bit less mobile than other professions.
I know things don’t have to be this way, but Warriors are support oriented with banners and shouts. Their mobility is decent. Damage is good. Their CC is good. Survivability is great.
Then we got the Guardian. Their supportive functions are at least on par with Warriors I’d say, what do you think? Then they got a 1200 range blink for some reason making their mobility good/great. Damage is great. CC is great. Survivability is godlike.
I know that Warriors are also very welcome in a team but I don’t think there’s any doubt that the general opinion is that Guardians are better?
Considering my description of how you’d think a Guardian works, what would you say if I told you they can teleport to you from 1200 units away. Cast one spell and then have inflicted enough burning to kill you in two seconds without even the need of attacking anymore. 9000-something burning damage caused instantly and dealt quickly. Was close to 10 000. Again, I get that things don’t “have to” be a certain way, but come on, do we really need to abuse that statement this hard?
I’m by no means a great PvP player, so I could be totally wrong. In fact, I’d probably be told so regardless by those holding on to their crutches. However, I believe some will have genuine counter arguments, which I look forward to.
There must be something about Guardians though, since they are currently the most popular along with Thieves. That’s undeniable and I think it’s a tad unfair.
TL/DR: Guardians are the most durable, with higher damage than Warriors and mobility of lighter professions. Could be called the Swiss army knife of GW2.

I hope they fix it this upcoming week. :/
Believe it or not but I for one like the current system with having some restrictions. I know restrictions are so 20th century, guess I’m getting old. I’m not used to getting everything I want.
I hope unlocking professions will be done by other means than just leveling. Like some training system, perhaps a set of achievements acquired by killing certain bosses and such. And each (bunch of?) profession(s) should require a different set. I want to work a little to get them.
Another patch with fixes is coming out any minute now, gotta say they iron them out quickly.

The images seem to be below 1920×1080 resolution, they always looked upscaled and bad on my screen. I guess they decided to show them at native res with black bars for higher quality. Looks sharper now.
I think one of the new female faces looks very serious, don’t mind the pink color in this picture.

Great, I created my 9th character after my exam yesterday and was tired of the tutorial instance so I thought maybe porting to the HoM would allow me to skip it…. but then this bug occured. So what’s happening now? Guess it’s best to not play at all now in case everything gets reverted… Just my luck.
I’m excited for the delayed camera patch. Hope it comes this week, that’ll be enough for me. So excited for the new faces as well and other things in the update.
Actually, the character selection screen is pretty much the impression a new player gets and we all know how important that is. I used to play a game where the developers’ explicitly said this same thing when they started reworking the UI and chose the log in + character selection screens first. It helps the retention rate.

I like the idea ROM talked about on his stream, that a druid would be able to turn into an animal instead, like a bear or wolf. That would be ace.
I never found this to be an issue when I bought the game and missed out on some episodes. I believe most (if not all) of the “Omg episodes not included” or “Omg the NPE” complaints come from long time players that pretend to be new.
The only thing I find sad is that I missed out on LS1, but that’s my own fault and I understand why they created it the way they did and why it’s not replayable. kitten happens you know.
Welcome! Glad you’ve enjoyed it so far. I gotta say GW2 is a truly beautiful game that does so many things right that pretty much every other mmorpg doesn’t.
You do all those hard things but can’t handle some easy tasks despite wanting the AP? First world problem right here.
You can still explore, and the vistas/et al are still there, but the icons don’t appear on the map for <L10 characters. Not everyone who plays is an MMO veteran, and can find a multitude of different icons in the first 30s of play kind of overwhelming.
For me it had the opposite effect when I started out a few months back. I played with a friend who already had played for almost half a year and we both started new characters. It was incredibly frustrating for me, hearing about Vistas (and more) but not being able to find them. He tried his best explaining where to look and eventually I gave up and took a screenshot to show him what my map looked like. At that point we realised our maps didn’t look the same and after more talking we assumed it was bugged for me. I was quite annoyed at that point.
And now a few weeks back I met a new player ingame and I tried to explain how things worked, it was really really hard since he could either not see the things (Vistas) and/or access it (PvP, WvW). He mostly wanted to explore the world and complete zones… I had to tell him he couldn’t see map progression yet. :/
All in all, it seems to make new players feel very handicapped compared to the rest. Now in hindsight it doesn’t seem so bad, but during my first and second day I had no idea for how long I would be severly handicapped compared to everyone else. Most people who quit do it early and I was close to being one of them due to the NPE.

No, leave fighting to the adults. I don’t want to see kids and seniors running around in tarzan and jane clothes while wielding greatswords. :/ Would break the immersion completely.
Say, about those revenants…
New professions, historically, have come with new lands/cultures. These professions were new to the player, but not new to the game world, and, at least as primary professions, were specific to their region of origin. No Canthan paragons, for example, or Elonian ritualists.
If Rytlock is indeed the first revenant, then this is a profession not only new to the players, but new to Tyria as well. So… how will new revenants come to be? Will Rytlock train them all? Or train a train of trainers to train others? Will knowledge of how to be a revenant be ‘gifted’ to various individuals by the grace of the gods? Which gods?
Who what when where how and of course why not Boromir?
Well, he could teach some and they would in turn teach others. But remember, every single player character is represented by only one character story wise, the pact commander.
I honestly believe that they accidently added a zero too much. It was hopefully meant to be 10. That would put it in line with the other achievements.

I find his post pretty clear.
Hey folks,
“Now that the HOT is out of the bag, we’re able to update this thread with more details. With the introduction of the new account based mastery system for end-game progression and growth in PvE, we’ll also be re-evaluating our other systems of character progression to ensure they match our over-all pillars and goals for Gw2.
In doing so: we’re going to be removing the current trait unlocking system currently on live and replacing it with a more simplified system that supports where skills-traits-specializations are going in the future. We’ll go into more details between now and the release of HOT on how skills, traits, and specializations will work in the new Gw2 world.
Thank you for all your passionate feedback on this topic – it not only helped our dev team lead to this decision, but has played a large role in helping us define how to build our exciting new account based mastery system for end-game progression in PvE as well.”
It tells us that the new system will be simplified and following the trend of their account wide mastery system.
It tells us that specialisations need a system revamp to work traits and skill, since the new sub-classes will use new traits and skills.
It tells us that details on exactly how it will work are coming later closer to the release.
To me that says more than enough.

My only gripe was that the developers seemed unprepared which resulted in a lot of “Uhm” and “You know”.
Edit: The best way I can describe the feeling is like someone interviewing a fireman who has just put out a massive fire and saved many lives. Everyone is amazed except the fireman himself. To him it’s just another day at work.
On a positive note I think what was shown was enough, unlike most people who want more. I just wish it was presented better to give it justice.

I fully support it, I love having my light armored sylvari running barefoot. Everyone should be able to without losing stats. You see plenty of Norn NPCs walking barefoot in the shiverpeaks for example.
I think what would be cool is, rather than making footwear toggle-able (which in some cases would be immersion breaking), they could rather just introduced more options for footwear that catered more to different people’s tastes. Things like sandals, slippers, shorter boots or shoes (especially for males, .
To be fair I would find slippers more immersion breaking than doing something as natural as walking barefoot, especially in a game with the theme GW2 has.

Weird, I’ve never received that error. Not even with ~max settings and 6h+ of running, not even encountered degrading performance over time.
That’s an alternative method but I’d recommend to use their official method for doing it, using their new-ish Dynamic Super Resolution feature as I assume it works better or at least as good. Perhaps users of 500-series and earlier could use the method shown in that thread though.
1. Right click on your desktop and open NVIDIA Control Panel.
2. Select “Manage 3D settings” on the left side under “3D Settings”.
3. In the “Global Settings” tab you will find two DSR options.
DSR – Factors: This enables higher resolutions that will be downsampled to your native resolution. I use 2.00x and 4.00×.
DSR – Smoothness: Blurs the picture in case it might be too sharp. I use 0% but it really depends on the game, some games are unbearable with blur, some look better with a little bit.
Edit:
4. The new resolutions will now show up ingame in the graphics options.
But remember, the UI can become very small depending on how high resolution you pick.

Ok, so I take everything back. I got to do the event for my first time just now and received two (2) Carapace Coat boxes and I’m super happy.
I think RNG does add some excitement, it should be in the game but there should also be a system regulating it. So that your chance gets higher the more times you do it to avoid those rare cases with people who can get massive streaks of bad luck.
Are sylvari ‘warm-sapped’ or ‘cold-sapped’? Do they generate their own heat, like mammals, or must they rely on environmental factors?
If I remember right, from reading Ghosts of Ascalon, they are neither warm nor cold.
About the luck, I believe all types of kits should give the same amount of luck?
after not getting a coat for the last couple days of trying, I decided to keep track of my attempts today. So far, 6 tries in 4 hours. This is not fun especially when I am hearing about other people having more than they need. RNG is a bad design and I am confused about why it is still being used like this.
Be glad you had the chance to at least try, especially 6 times in 4 hours. I got to try 0 in 1 hour.
I dced (again) just before the Vinewrath event started. Logged back in immediately but on an empty map. It would be great if players who dc or log out for any reason had their spot in the map reserved for 5 mins or even less so their effort is not in vain.
I know that feeling and I believe it’s the servers’ fault for those DCs, making it feel worse not being my own fault even.

I really don’t like it the way it is. I came home late after a long day, wanting to give it a try. I joined Silverwastes and the progress was around 0%, so I started using the lfg tool to find a server with more progress like suggested around the forums. I found a few groups popping up but being full already and disappearing. So that didn’t work, spent around 10 minutes refreshing the list.
Then I noticed the progress bar starting to move so I joined in to help for 50 minutes, it was almost done (ready to start the 2nd and last event before the Vinewrath) and I got kicked out. The server probably dropped players due to the insane amount of people wanting to join it once it’s almost completed… Now I’m really tired and starting to feel ill again with 0 progress in game. Wonder if I will ever be able to get the coat box… let alone play the Vinewrath event even once.
This sort of mirrors my experience with edge of the mists lately too. Almost every time I want to join it for a little leveling I face a map 100% captured by another team with no commander or players (apart from 3-5 people afk:ing) from my team.
