Who is ‘we’? Is that a french mouse in your pocket?
Game is still new and I’m sure they will develop and add things over time. There is no substitute for the WvW we have now so I’m thankful to have it and look forward to more in the future.
your correct on one thing, there is no open world pvp game that does not allow you to see your enemy during a fight, or hit all the enemy attacking you.. both reasons why its a flop… you should check out some real open world pvp games.. it might broaden your attitude towards this game
Weird are we playing the same game? I don’t have issues hitting players unless I’m out of range, blinded or they dodge which are game mechanics.
Anyway I’m up for considering other MMOs with open world PvP as long the following apply.
- They do not require a subscription
- Do not feature a continuous gear grind where gear is king and skill/build is second.
- Does not require macro/3rd party utilities to be competitive.I’d love to hear of one that meets those simple requirements. I’d even be willing to waive the subscription requirement.
DAOC requires a sub, and once you get geared you dont need to regrind it… you dont need a macro to win. Its also skill based and your aoe attacks will actually hit everyone within the aoe.
My point was you hit a limited amount in guild wars so a group of 5 would only hit 25 people out of 50 in a zerg yet the zerg would hit all of us… that promotes zerging and thats what causes the culling issues..
You got me. I enjoyed DAoC back in the day until they added the ability grind that is RR, so I left for Shadowbane.
I’m done with continuous grinds of any kind =)
I’m not saying this game doesn’t have its flaws but I’m willing to be patient for improvements and having a blast as it is now. I’d probably be less patient if I was paying a subscription. I know I can take a break from this game and come back without being left far behind because of level/rank ability/gear grinds.
good for you mate, WvW was fun untill the was nothing to login for.. why bother loading up to not see your enemy and not have a chance agaisnt greater numbers? anets downfall is promoting a ZvZ and that whats casuing the majority of the wvw issues.. Anyway im off from these forums for another 2-3 months till i check back again.. but fingers xrossed i get into TESO better or camelot unchained starts its beta. <3 to all Opvp players xx
I know I’m about to be the bad guy forum poster here but the game has only been out for six months. They probably had no idea that WvW would be as popular as it is now and lettuce be cereal, we would not be posting in this section of the forum all the time if we didn’t want changes/implementations made to WvW cause admittedly, it is my favorite part of the game and it’s pretty great. Things do need to change, and being able to buy commander with gold was not only a bad idea but it shouldn’t have been a “feature” in the first place. I do agree with a majority of what you said but the commander icon acquisition is one of the things that bothers me the most.
Now with all that said, give them some time. I’m sure there are some major changes and quality of life improvements in the pipeline for WvW but development and testing does take some time to implement (I feel like things might be easier with a PTR type of thing, even if having perma-access wasn’t free, I’d pay 400-500 gems to be a PTR tester). Things will get better for us hardcore WvW’ers, just need to give them constructive ideas and such to go along with.
the culling issue has been in the game since release… they have had 6 months to fix it!
Im not bashing because you made a very valid post, but your a little foolish to think the beta testers didnt pick them up on these points prior to release.
1 person for 6 months working on the culling issue is alot of man hours, no considering its a HUGE fail not seeing your enemy you would imagine a team of atleast 5 working on that… thats a hell of alot of man hours and should of been fixed by now. My guess is they cant fix it and they are hoping people stop playing to make it fix it self.. but even that isnt working
I probably should’ve stated that I’ve only played this game since mid-December and I’ve only been reading/posting on the forums since a few weeks ago. The underlying message in my post was just to give it some time. There’s enough threads out there filled to the brim with complaints and such and it’d take a fool to think that Anet doesn’t realize there’s some serious problems that need to be looked at, however I know culling is definitely a problem but I have no idea if it’s always been this bad or whatever. I’ve only experienced it a few times which is probably what the problem is honestly. haha
these threads have been around since week one, have they listern? nope

Back in beta they were called on over and over again to change this mechanic: require badges instead, or kills, or tower captures – ANYTHING that was actually related to WvW and showed you had experience. We were rebuffed and instead we have a system that discourages the devs to create a guild raid system, encourages inexperienced individuals to lead WvW, encourages zerging and hobbles tactical play and engenders an attitude of petulance that simply because you have a blue icon – you know what’s best.
The WvW devs should honestly be ashamed that Commander is in the game the way that it is right now.
This appears to be the one thing that won’t be in the WvW patch. According to a post made at the beginning of Jan a dev said they had no plans to change this system anytime soon.
snip
they will never change it because its to much of a cash cow for them

Ive just loaded up the WvW forums to have a look how its going after i quit for all the reason the OP just stated, and one additional one… i got forum banned for saying how bad they had implemented WvW and how no hardcore openpvp player will stick with this game…..
Its sad that now after so many months they havnt fixed the culling issue??? they still only allow aoe’s to hit like 5 people? how the hell does this promote open field tactics within there small maps?
I could go on but i cba to put that much effort into a game that has flopped so badly, and i feel sorry for the OP. He/She obv cares alot about this game as have many others who have left disappointed.. i can ensure you theres hundreds if not thousands of people who will never ever reinstall this game ever again due to the game breaking flaws they cannot fix..
doubt ill even check back anymore, eclipse just quit mate… they got your money they dont care…
I like you idea Stiv….. people are going to think we are daoc mad soon but im only using it a reference as the longest serving mmo i have played… uo close second…I personally think we should have ra’s also in gw2.
When fighting enemy players in daoc you see there race and there rr title depending on there realm and at rr 12 you got to see the players name infront of there title. this gave you a good indication of how well you was doing.. if you beat someone higher rr then you played well if you got owned you have a excuse and if it was close then you can pick out the positives… people get to stuck on giving people a bonus for playing more… people who play more create a better game for the casual players, a stable environment so to speak
The problem I see with this is; Who chooses what to build where?
Everyone sees thier ideal placement as the best spot, and with 166 players per server per map. Nothing would ever get built.
or griefed to poop
Think of it this way. Imagine it was me versus you versus Joe.
Suppose we fight in Eternal as it is now, there is freedom in what we the players do. But as for the map itself, there is no freedom because Eternal is the same this week, next week and the week after.
Now suppose we were on a clean map with free building capability. This week I might have a keep right on top of a mountain, next week I might have a castle by a river, the week after I might have a “Great Wall of China” on the map.
Not only are your tactics going to change, the map play differently every week because of the free building choices. Technically it is the same map but we the players build it into something different.
you are explaining a game 1million% different to this game, it would be impossible currently.. and the near future.. sorry
add more pve to a pvp situation? bad idea imo
^^^^^^ about time someone with some bloody sense at last
sorry and where does it even mention daoc?
how have they made it quite plain that it wont be offered? Im sure i read a dev post saying that it was going to be implemented after release yet i havnt mentioned it as i cant remember where i seen the post, so without evidence i wont say that as fact…. may i ask where your evidence is?
Also a difference of opinion isnt trolling.. you may wish to broaden your mind a little and start to except that others have opinions that are not the same as yours but just as valid and worth just as much….
(edited by Scilly.9315)
Also with the ra system it gave classes that are the same different routes to take… you can back yourself more to attack or more to defense, or a spread of the two. diversity also adds to player improvement and players fun
i cant stop laughing at the mock of my accidental typo.. anyway i dont want to pwn noobs i want equalish fighting pvp.. out and out players v players….
Like i said WAR flopped cause as you described its rr were to unbalanced, daoc wasnt that way and such the only person ( that i know of) that has hit rr13 is just that one person!
Im not trying to make gw2 daoc, i just putting a point across that adding to your char is what keeps people going…. tell me one game where you have played a char for 6months+ without gaining anything other than money!?
@webley… there are tons and tons of posts on the forum about thief rendering issue lol your investigative skills suck, irl you would suck as a thief! :P
the most likely solution is to just put a invisble wall like the guardian skill that drops when the door “dies”….. I rekon that would fix it
So, I’ve done these puzzles since the betas and it doesn’t take long to do them. Got the two key parts and went to the vault. But, the vault just doesn’t seem to open. I talked to someone else who had the same issue with all three of them. Only seen it happen since the Oct. 7th patch. Not a huge deal, but I want my loots >_<
Anyone else having this issue?
There is another thread with a game dev saying thanks for bringing it to there attention… so i guess they are working on it
Someone i forget who, had the amazing idea of swapping orb bonuses with the outmanned bonuses.. im guessing the said intern might of just messed them up in the first place as no one in there right mind gives people out numbered xtra cash drops to “help” get them back to even lol
IM loving the fact that if the orbs are hacked the community gives them back and shuns the hacker!!!!! Its this community we want/ need to keep but i fear unless something is announced soon its going to dwindle away
what people forget is that daoc IS the best test of player skill in any mmo ever created.. u can have all the gear, all the skills and all the realm ranks…. but if you dont know your class or your naturally a bad player ( like i am ) you will suck and die….
Us DAOC players came to gw2 as it was hyped up to be similar to daoc… which it is!
IMO whats holding anet back is all the carebears saying " i cant play the game 40 hours a week like X does so he shouldnt beable to be better than me QQ"
Well i dont play 40 hours a week, i still want players to be better than me! if someone has worked hard getting a high rank then good on them!! get more people and go smash him up!
Also to the people moaning that daoc failed due to rr progression you are wrong… plain and simple!!!! Me and 7 guild mates pl’ed a group setup, got them all geared, went into big boy rvr at rr1… and got 30k rps/ hour consitantly!!
TACTICS win games not one guy who is high rank.. stop thinking that better is worse and you may get better yourself
(insert game company name here) this is directly @ you!!!!!!!!
There are alot of PURE wvw/rvr/pvp players… we dont want to kill npc to gain wvw/rvr/pvp credability WE WANT to kill people and have progression.. something to make us want to go out and die to a zerg and go back….. something to make us want to log on go out there and kill people!!!!!
Yes fighting is fun.. its what makes all mmo fun… but us pure wvw/rvr/pvp players want to kill people, using better tactics and NOT having to run and stand in a little circle.. thats what spvp is.. run stand in circle <depending on class> move to next circle or wait there and try not to let someone kill you… YAY fun!
ANET have now annouced what they are doing to SPVP as they can make $$$ from that but what about us WvW players!?!
We need you to talk to us ASAP with what you have planned for WvW and fast because if you leave it another 3 weeks the WvW is gonna end up with people just dabbling and all the pro’s… < the people we all want to fight> are going to go back to thier other games..
this is the editied version after i was infracted for “demanding” a response and “calling out a company”
Its not the ticking counter.. i dont give a poo about that to be honest..
Its all about progression.. after 80 and gear WVW has no progression just a continuous stream of zerg and fight npc… People that play WvW need something to work towards otherwise its pointless.. Like spvp, it has progression and now its getting even more love and attention. they always state the customers drive them to produce material that the customers want and yet they seem to be making decisions based on income over the games needs.
just keep on the wvw mate no real rush
what monsoon said and ill add the lack of progression in WvW after lvl 80 and geared
yes Zsymon a dramatic drop off of players…. And GW2 launch wasnt amazing lol first 3 weeks there was no trading post or guilds, both down or not working due to bugs….
now we have game breaking wvw hacks that anet dont seem to want to bite the bullet and stop, WAR failed due to similar details- bad rvr/wvw < war had bad lag gw2 has invisble zergs> progression < war was to quick to gain ranks, gw2 has no ranks> war didnt have any rvr hacks from memory but i could be mistaken.
Sadly ANET are to busy with trying to find hacking solutions that they dont have time for reasons to play wvw..
I am fed up with gw2 atm.. pvp is just pve and wvw is the same… cap npc held objectives move on fight invisble zerg die rinse repeat.
WVW has been seriously overlooked in the deveplement stage and now we are seeing the dramtic drop off of players realising that wvw has been given the short straw of the game.
As much hope as getting a UI for Commanders, the engine getting fixed so you can see the people you’re fighting, and the end of Tranfers. So… get your patience cap on.
1, change your gfx settings untill they fix it <npcnames off helps alot>
2, transfers will remain free untill the end of wvw ques
3, my idea would increase wvvw que times your right it probly wont happen untill 2014
Hi, This is my first post here on GW2 forums!!!
So Realm Ranks!? anyone familiar with DAOC knows Realm Ranks and Realm Abilities where the whole reason to play RVR.. enjoying the killing was a far 2nd best.. REALM RANK was and still is everything in daoc. DAOC did not start life with a realm rank system… it was implemented soon after.
I really hope ANET are going to implement a ranking system for WVW soon because if they do not there will be no real reason to go WVW… I am lvl 80 with full crafted armour,75% jewels and a crafted staff combined with the look of mystic staff….. I am pure RVR person… i dont like PVP its to much npc realm rank bull**** with op classes filling the enemy slots just so they can think themselves the best..
So what hope does a DAOC vet have of getting a realm rank system anytime soon?
wont happen.. EU is a big place as has a pretty large time zone diff
