Why doesn't this game have overworld dueling?

in PvP

Posted by: Searingarrow.4637

Searingarrow.4637

“Dueling” in SPvP servers is incredibly inconvenient. Having to run long distances to get out of combat in order to heal, accidentally tab targeting players you aren’t dueling and wasting spells on them, having to be on opposite teams, all in all it’s just a frustrating experience.

I feel like dueling in any MMO with PvP is necessary to help people learn matchups. Not only does it do that but it teaches you more about how to play your own class, it brings the community together, it adds to immersion, and overall it’s just fun to be able to duel anywhere in the overworld.

Most other MMOs have overworld dueling and you would think it would be standard for MMOs at this point. I mean the games been out for three years. So why doesn’t a large, successful MMO like this have something that seems so basic?

Need better matchmaking system for SPvP.

in PvP

Posted by: Searingarrow.4637

Searingarrow.4637

In the current system people of any skill level can get paired against each other so someone who is just learning the game could get put against someone who knows what they are doing and have been playing for awhile. This makes SPvP unattractive to new players and overall less fun for everyone. It’s not fun to wreck people who are new and its not fun to get wrecked by people who have been playing for a long time.

There needs to be a matchmaking system that puts players of the same skill level together.

I have ported to every zone and I have not found one that needed that extra 1 POI.
It is quite frustrating! =/

What about POI near the final boss in the “The Light in the Darkness” personal story quest?

As far as I know there isn’t any PoI in a personal story quest that can’t be get without the story, also I don’t remember that there is a PoI at the end of that storyline. (Else this one can be get by completing all the area’s)

My guess is that all of you aren’t member of the Order of Whispers, and therefore never have been to the Chantry of Secrets. If I’m right you should check at the Deadend Cave PoI in Bloodtide Coast and go through the portal, you’ll find a PoI in this new area. The Deadend Cave is the first PoI directly south of the Lion’s Arch portal. (at the Deadend Waypoint and Skill Point) I hope this helps.

This actually worked! That was the missing POI. Thank you very much!

I’ve finished world completion but it says I’m missing one point of interest. I’ve gone back and double checked every zone in the game, including WvW, and they all say I have all the points of interest. Even when I log out on the bottom right it says I have 100% map completion. However when I mouse over the medal on the character select screen it says 99% and it also says 99% in game.

I’ve double, maybe even triple checked each zone and they all say they are completed. I’m guessing it’s bugged.

Swamp…. No really- that fractural can be removed from the kitten game. On a serious note- Either Kitty Asura Cube area or the Volcano Stage…. I’ve done the collusus way too many times to enjoy it and when running it with new people it gets even more frustrating.

People wanted harder things.Anet listened and we got what comunity wanted. Now people complain it’s too difficult.Gosh give it time.

Who wanted harder things??? Really? The forums have been ablaze for weeks about how dungeons are a haphazard mess with little or no reward for hours of labour. Quit trolling

Me. I wanted harder things. I wanted boss fights with real mechanics that couldn’t be ignored. You don’t know how happy I am that they actually did it. They made challenging content that makes sense. Dugneons before were these casual easy zergfests…

Casual players will cry because they can’t beat everything on their first try. If they are so upset that there is challenging content in this game that actually requires thought, then they can go back and do well… EVERY OTHER DUNGEON IN THE GAME.

The 45 character title limit prevented me from making a title that made sense… Why is there a 45 character limit again?

In Fractal of the Mists when you die you can’t respawn until the party wipes. This is a great thing to have for all dungeons. It makes it so that dying is actually something you have to care about now.

Right now in the other dungeons you can just die and run back while everyone is still fighting and it becomes a zerg fest instead of a boss fight. Dying in every other dungeon but fractals has no consequences besides repairing. It’s nearly impossible to fail a boss fight because of this and it’s stupid.

Arenanet did an infinitely better job on fractals in comparison to their other dungeons and I’d hope to see the other dungeons reworked to be of the same quality. But for that to happen theyd have to bring the fractal death mechanics over to all dungeons and theyd have to rework A LOT of the fights in most of the dungeons to be as good as the fractal dungeon’s. That means adding more mechanics to fights that cannot be ignored. A lot of fights in other dungeons have mechanics you can ignore and it basically because a tank and spank and thats never any fun.

So I’d like to see a rework on other dungeons fight mechanics and I’d like to see the fractal death mechanics carried over.

After the laggy auto-attack fest that started this event you get a letter in the mail telling you to visit 3 people in different zones and gather information from them on the karka. After you go and help each of these people with there little quests (taking roughly 45 minutes) you come back and give what you’ve gathered to Researcher Levi in Lion’s Arch.

She rewards you with 5 Captain’s Council Commendations. These commendations can be used to purchase things from a vendor where the lions statue used to be. What you can purchase from the vendor with these commendations is absolute trash and a complete rip off.

So basically I just wasted 45 minutes to get a fraction of the amount of tokens I need to buy vendor trash I could go and purchase from any vendor in the game for 32 copper – 4 silver depending on what I want. Oh and lets not forget the cool weapons they sell that you’ve always been able to get for a cheap amount of karma… Weapons that you never see anyone with because nobody wants them….

TL;DR – Phase one feels like a waste of time to me because the opening event was a generic event no different than any other dynamic event in the game and the rewards are a complete rip off…

I feel like the “donations” to fix Lion’s Arch are ArenaNet’s way of trying to remove a large amount of items from the game. Possibly at an attempt to regulate TP prices of goods. (Like how they’d done with that Mystic Chest thing that I missed out on)

…. What are you talking about?

Didn’t you hear? They’re trying to make GW2 the new WoW.

Grinding the a new set of dungeons every few months for the highest stat gear.

It certainly explains why the crafting professions are so similar to WoW, but you can’t really out-WoW WoW.

Sigh this crap again… They added a progression dungeon for people who want progression. Know how many other dungeons don’t require progression… Well lets see yeah I guess you only have EVERY OTHER DUNGEON….

Honestly it frustrates me how casual players get mad because they want to play a couple hours a week and be as good as people who play regularly. Lets face it. The game had no end game. You get whatever set of armor you liked the look of and then after that there is NO reason to run a dungeon more than once. Not a single freaking reason unless you really like that dungeon.

I’m disappointed with what I’ve seen so far. I understand the event isn’t over and there could be amazing things on the next 2 days. But unfortunately today’s phase of the event has been a complete waste of time so far in my opinion.

Here is why:

The opening event for this phase of the Lost Shores event consisted of spamming abilities at veteran crabs, some of which were not able to be hurt except through dots that were instantly removed after one tick of damage, in an extremely laggy environment. The event was lackluster, the only cool thing about it being the cutscenes.

I understand that there’s a few other quests out there related to this but they give the same rewards.

Here’s what she sells:

Black lion key – 285 Commendations. This is absolutely ridiculous. 285? I only got 5. Black chests don’t give anything worth that much effort.

Crude salvage kit – 1 token. This is the lowest tier of salvage kits in the game. They can be purchased from nearly any vendor for 32 copper. So I can get 5 of these. Neat.

Disasembler 3BEK Kit – 25 tokens. A low tier salvage kit with 250 uses… Neat.

Then they sell you versions of all the gathering tools in the game but with 250 uses each instead of the standard 100 uses. Why would I go and work for these commendation points to buy this crap when I can just go to any regular vendor and buy it for a few copper?

Next they sell you Lionguard weapons. They cost 40 commendation tokens each. You have always been able to just buy these from a vendor in lions arch for 9,800 karma per weapon (which is very cheap)

Why doesn't this game have dueling?

It probably has something to do with the fact that players will scream for 1v1 balance. Like, the Death Blossom Thief build where you bleed -> stealth -> repeat is basically one of the ultimate 1v1 builds.

And people like that should be ignored… They’re idiots. I don’t understand why this is an issue.

Give them some time they’ll likely get around to it, they’ll add dueling and gear score and a dungeon finders …. they’ll probably even replace hearts for exclamation marks.

In your post you’re implying that by adding duels they would be making the game like WoW. What kind of argument is this? Because they added a basic feature that doesn’t effect the state of the game at all would make it like WoW? I don’t understand… So I guess all first person shooters are the same because they all have guns am I right?

What point are you even trying to get across here? Dueling is bad because it exists in other games?

Thats like saying cheese is bad because it was used on more than one food…

“But no promises” Absolutely ridiculous. “Oh hey, we’re not going to add something that has no negative effects that would make the game more fun and enjoyable for a lot of players.”

Their explanation was how they didn’t want players to assume the game was balanced around 1v1 but around groups. Doesn’t satisfy me. Hopefully we’ll get it soon.

That’s a stupid argument as well. Theres no reason you would balance around duels. It’s stupid. People who think that the game is balanced around duels are equally as stupid and should be ignored.

I agree with everything; although I understood what some pve players said about a bunch of jacktards dueling around you. But then it’s like, what about the bunch of jacktards sitting in a mob 30 strong ignoring pre-events for dragon for 45 minutes. It’s an mmo of course theres going to be some jacktards let us have some effing duels.

I don’t understand why the whole “I don’t want people dueling around me” Is even an arguement. I go into WvW. I don’t want people PvEing around me yet WvW has kittening PVE BASED EVENTS IN A WVW ORIENTED MAP. What the actual kitten. If they will purposely implement stupid kitten like that that actually has a negative effect on the players around them, why won’t they implement something that doesn’t have a negative effect on people.

Seriously, getting mad because someone is dueling next to you in an MMO is like getting mad because someone is reading a book next to you in a library…

There is literally NO reason for this game to not have dueling. People don’t like getting duel requests? Easy, make it so you can disable duel requests.People don’t like going out into the world and seeing people dueling? Well thats stupid since it doesn’t effect them. That’s almost the equivalent of walking outside and seeing to people eating lunch in a park and getting pissed off. But if for whatever reason its such a big problem that it prevents it from getting implemented, make an area dedicated to dueling away from everything else so these selfish people won’t have a reason to complain.

Theres no reason not to have dueling in this game and it’s ridiculous that it’s not in here. One of my favorite pass times in WoW was watching people duel outside of main cities and participating in duels myself. It was a huge social event that brought the community together every single day. I miss that and I don’t understand why it’s not here.

It also helps people test out builds, abilities, combos and tricks, and helps people learn how to fight different classes. I’m ONLY seeing positive things here yet for some reason it’s still not in the game. Completely ridiculous.

I can’t say I agree with your other complaints, though. I also prefer the more “fantasy” oriented pets and a few more would be nice, but there’s a decent split of fantasy and realistic animals. You seem to mention Devourers as the only ones, but fire breathing lizards, giant spitting spiders, leafy dogs and prehistoric bears all fit the bill just fine, for me anyway. And I’m sure in time they’ll introduce more pets and hopefully use many of the fantasy-themed animals in the game like Griffons.

I definately don’t agree with the idea of rediculous effects for pet attacks like conjuring storms or lunar strike (whatever that is, sounds like an over-the-top Final Fantasty attack). They’re animals, not gods. Bites, claws, pounces, thats how animals attack. The wild animals in the game don’t do anything silly like calling forth storms, so why would Ranger pets?

Ah, I forgot about fern hounds. They are neat. But yeah they are really dull generic creatures in my opinion. Spiders are in every game, fire breathing lizards are in a lot of games, bears… are you kidding me? Bears are in everything, fantasy or not.

As for the whole storm thing I was thinking more along the lines of spirit beasts from WoW. Nothing too over the top like final fantasy lol.

I miss the days of GW1 where you had to equip a skill and go out in the world and fight a pet until it was a tamable health lvl…

Taming in GW1 was just equipping Charm Animal, run to a tameable pet, use Charm Animal and wait for 10 seconds (and hope your team mates don’t kill it).
You’re confusing GW1 with Pokemon or so.

Thats how it was in WoW essentially. Use charm animal and it had a 10 second cast time. The effort came in when they made things interrupt you so you couldn’t finish the cast or finding ways to keep the animal locked down with CCs so you could get the whole thing off. It was fun.

With the current 50 character limit on thread titles, I couldn’t make a proper title that actually described what was in the thread. The title was supposed to be “Ranger pets – Dull, generic, effortless to obtain, and nearly uncontrollable in combat.”

The current process of getting a ranger pet is boring and uneventful. You run up to it and press F. There’s no skill involved, no effort, and it doesn’t make ranger pets feel special. In World of Warcraft there were pets that were rare spawns that had their own unique models, had their own unique interesting abilities, and the process of getting to them and taming them usually had some interesting mechanics.

Now keep in mind that in WoW there were plenty of pets that were easy to obtain and had their own abilities as well and were no better or worse than the rare pets. These rare pets were for people who wanted a little bit more from their pets, a challenge and a reward.

I have to say that the pets that are currently in the game are dull and generic. There’s nothing interesting, creative, or exotic that is tameable. They are all generic pets like spider, wolf, lizard, ostrich, bird, ect. Which is fine but why are there no interesting, unique creatures that you wouldn’t see in any other game that are tameable? Why are they all completely bland animals that you’d find in real life and any game ever? Absolutely no creativity, none. (minus the devourers) I mean pigs are a tameable pet for kittens sake. The somewhat interesting things like rock dogs, cave bats, skelks, ect. aren’t tameable. Why? Bring in elemental pets, bring in the challenge, bring in something interesting and unique to look at that makes people go “Wow, that’s really awesome! I’m amazed that he has that!”

The current taming process is so boring and effortless, make it creative, make it a game, make it a challenge! Why would you want dry effortless content in your game? Think of all the things you could add to the game with something just as simple as WoW’s tame cast bar? You don’t need a cast bar, but put in SOMETHING. Pressing F is not a very interesting, rewarding task.

I see a ranger pet, I walk up to it, I press F, I say “Neat.” and walk on giving 0 kittens. You got a lashtail devourer? Who cares? All you did was go to ascalon and press F, here let me go get one I’ll be back in 5 minutes… You see? It makes ranger pets seem so meaningless.

Now on another topic; ranger pets abilities are also completely uninteresting.
Most of them are cliche, one purpose abilities with overused visual effects. Nothing interesting, no conjured storm, no lunar strike, no abilities with unikittenfects. All we have are generic abilities like is roar, bite, breath (which is completely worthless), poison, slash, and forage (neat idea, completely impractical.)

Some of the ranger pet’s abilities aren’t even functional or are so impractical that you would probably never use them. Take for example the drake’s breath ability. Not only do they have a ridiculously long and obvious cast time but their range and width are extremely small. Let’s not forget that while your pet is casting this it is completely stationary and doesn’t even change directions so that it fires the ability at its target if it has moved. Even if your opponent is stupid enough to stand still for the 7 seconds it takes to get the full effect, the damage and effect of the ability are so small and so useless you’d honestly be better off letting your pet auto attack instead of using these worthless abilities.

Also you only have control of ONE of the ranger pet’s abilities. The other 3 the pet uses whenever it feels like it. “What’s that? You wanted didn’t want your devourer to burrow away just yet? Too bad. You can’t control your pet in combat, deal with it.” Who thought this was a good idea?

It would seem that the only thing that arenanet got right with pets was allowing a player to be able to get ALL of them and be able to access them from anywhere.

hardcore is synonymous to “play a kitten lot”.

hardcore is 20+ hours steadily week after week.
and that is almost “softcore” for some.

i cannot understand how you can find nothing to do in GW2 if you are under 300h played so far.

and 300h would mean almost 2-3h per day 7/7.
so really… players complaining about the content qty… i mean…

Now I’m not deep into either WvW nor PvP – but afaik there is a new PvP map coming out, hopefully that will be fun, plus they are working on the matchmaking.

More mini-games, I’m all for it. I know this sounds odd, but I actually miss the typical “fishing” hobby.

I guess you are not a fan of the puzzles?

Well, I for one do like that there is no rare dungeon loot. Works a bit different here, thinking about mini’s (companions) I guess they all come from the store and then the doubles end up in the TP (?).

I do like the puzzles. I forgot about those. Eh, having rare vanity loot keeps things interesting in my opinion. An extra thing to hope for or go for while doing things.

Searingarrow.4637

I am still not sure what exactly you want for the “endgame”?
What would be worthwhile doing?

WvW would be fine if it was more interesting and didn’t have rendering issues that completely break the game. SPvP would be fine if it had a proper matchmaking system. Dungeons would be fine if the fights were better designed and the rewards consisted of something interesting besides neat looking armor. You’re all going to be at my throat for this but WoW had some cool rare drops from dungeons; like mounts and companions and other random cool things to play with.

SPvP completely consists of capture and hold with their own unique twists. Which is cool and I love capture and hold but how come we don’t have other game types? I like capture the flag too.

Add some cool and unique mini-games with worthwhile rewards that will keep players playing it. Kegbrawl is pretty neat but theres not much incentive to play it and its the ONLY mini-game in the game at the moment…

PvP could really be a lot more interesting than capture and hold. You just have to be creative with it…

So I guess to summarize I want a more fun, interesting, functional WvW that requires tactics and not just a zerg fest, I want a matchmaking system that puts players of equal skill against eachother, I want more PvP modes besides capture and hold because variety keeps things interesting. (don’t get me wrong their capture and hold games are pretty awesome) I want dungeons with interesting fight mechanics with better telegraphed abilities (Overlapping red circle vendiagrams are not working, arenanet) with more interesting rewards. Many dungeons fights either consist of a tank and spank with literally no fight mechanics or a wipefest from poorly telegraphed abilities and ludicrous damage.

Don’t get me wrong I love guild wars 2. I just want to see it in a better state. I mean some of the things I like about guild wars 2: The leveling process was great, dynamic events are genius. Personal story is amazing minus some bad voice acting. Map completion is pretty fun, rewards could be more interesting and unique. Art style for the game is awesome and legendaries are a great idea although some of them don’t really seem “legendary”.

Edit: I also love the puzzles. Jumping puzzles are great.

We have WvW which I don’t like because its dry and repetitive and has game breaking issues. I also don’t feel like farming for a legendary atm. So what is there to do? Just SPvP? SPvP doesn’t even have a good matchmaking system it allows for people who have no clue what they are doing and little PvP experience to play against people who have skill and know what they are doing. The game feels like it’s tailored for casual players who only get on for about an hour and a half every couple days.

To confirm, what do you want to do?

If it’s repeat the same instance ad nauseum until you get a piece of gear with leet stats so you have a stat advantage then there’s not much for you here.

However, if it’s playing the game rather than being given an advantage that you enjoy then play it however you like.

This game is not designed for gear-grinders. You can level many ways and get the best stat gear in various ways too.

I never said I wanted “OMG UBER LEET GEAR TO PWNZERS MY ENEMYS WITH GEAR ABVANATAGE LAWL” I just want something to do that is fun and I can do more than twice without getting bored with it .Dungeons are horribly designed, the fights at least. The traps are amazing and I love things like the laser hall you have to pass in CoE and the last boss in CoF but the fights are terrible. Poorly designed, repetitive, boring, tedious, the list could go on for awhile. Theres not much incentive to do them either except for “Oooh look at my pretty gear, don’t I look fabulous?” and even once that’s gone theres no incentive. The problem with doing things for looks is if you only like the looks of one set of armor you’re just going to do that dungeon and not have an incentive to do any of the others more than once or twice. Theres no real reward except for neat looking armor. Nothing to enhance gameplay or make things more interesting.

No. I do not want gear progression. I don’t want to do dungeons for gear and that’s what all of you seem to think for whatever reason, I never even mentioned gear. Theres just not enough to do end game and theres no incentive to do what is currently the “endgame”.

WvW is stale, tedious, repetitive, and has gamebreaking issues. SPvP doesn’t have a proper matchmaking system and the rewards are pretty boring too. Nothing interesting, just more pretty pixels to wear. Legendary weapons are cool but once I get one what am I going to use it to do? The same stale, limited, broken content?

The leveling process was fantastic and I had a lot of fun with it. There’s just nothing to do at 80 that is worthwhile.

So play something else? I don’t know why you expected this to be hardcore.

Because its an MMO and most MMOs have some decent content for non-casual players? Honestly I’m not even an “hardcore player” I’m just a person who likes to get on for more than an hour and a half twice a week. Why don’t casuals go back to playing farmville or ipod apps instead?

SPvP doesn’t even have a good matchmaking system it allows for people who have no clue what they are doing and little PvP experience to play against people who have skill and know what they are doing. The game feels like it’s tailored for casual players who only get on for about an hour and a half every couple days.

Please lock this thread. It doesn’t add anything that already isn’t in the other huge thread, and to me looks like it may be a troll looking to create flames.

How am I a troll? I’m expressing my opinion and because that doesn’t agree with yours its a troll post. Interesting.

The game isn’t dying. Ascended gear won’t be a better Stat Stick (It’ll work like Infused Armor from GW1). GW2 doesn’t need a carrot on a stick setup like other MMORPG’s. If you don’t like those things, then maybe GW2 isn’t the game for you.

The game IS dying. Most of my guild and everyone I’ve talked to’s guilds have died out and people are bored of the game because theres no endgame and no incentive to keep playing.

I love guild wars 2 but theres not much of a reason for people to do things. “Oh I got my pretty glowy shoulders, I guess I’m done now!” You’re not going to play dungeon content more than twice if theres NO GOAL OR REWARD. Face it, it’s true, you won’t do it.

Doing a dungeons for gear is a universal thing. It gives a reason to do all the dungeons multiple times. The way it currently works is you get the armor you like from one or two dungeons and then completely drop doing dungeons because you’ve gotten what you want.

Also dungeons are extremely poorly designed at the moment which makes it hard to want to do dungeons even if there is a worthwhile reward.

Ascended gear having better stats is a good thing.

As far as I know it’s only the armor that has better stats so legendaries will stay on top… Now that that is out of the way, why are people so upset about there being better armor with the new patch and possibly more patches afterwards? Having to continuously get better gear gives people a REASON to go and play content they otherwise might have never touched. Most people won’t go and do all of the dungeons. Why not?? It’s not because the dungeon isn’t fun, it’s because the dungeon isn’t rewarding. There’s no motivation or incentive to play content once you’ve gotten the pretty pixel armor set you want.

With a “gear grind” in place it gives people a reason to go and play content they otherwise might not have. It gives people something to do and a reason to keep playing. Let’s face it, the game was dying because there was no end game and nothing to do and no incentive to do explorable modes if they didn’t have the best looking gear. People just go do CoF until they get all their fire gear they want and then don’t do anything else because there’s no reason to. They’ve already gotten what they want so there’s no reason to go do dungeons.

People will say “It shouldn’t be able the loot! People should do things because they are fun!” Well unfortunately that’s just not how people work these days. Most people will only do something if there is a good enough reward for doing them.

So that being said I think a “gear grind” would be necessary for the game to stay alive. So that people will have a reason to play the content and have something to do. Because currently it’s far too easy to just log on, get to 80, farm a few dungeon badges from that one place with the armor you want, and then go play some other game until there’s a reason to play guild wars 2 again.

Edit: Also it would help if the dungeons in this game were better designed. They currently have some cool things in dungeons I absolutely love, like the last boss in CoF story mode and the lasers you have to pass in CoE explorable, things like that. However the boss fights are boring, tedious, and repetitive and generally poorly designed and that is the other main reason people don’t do dungeons.

Why do we take damage in tornado?

in Elementalist

Elementalists are extremely squishy as it is… Tornado is an ability that you HAVE to put yourself in the center of your enemies and even chase them around a lot to get the max damage out of…. But it’s very hard to use this spell as intended because everyone focuses you when you do it. 80% of the time I use tornado and try to use it as it’s supposed to be used I get killed during the duration of it or come out of with with 10-5% hp…. I just don’t understand why you take damage in a spell like this. Why isn’t it like mist form where you are invulnerable to attacks except from conditions you had before you went in?

Will Guild Wars 2 have frequent content patches?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Searingarrow.4637

Will there be frequent content patches that add permanent content to the game? I know people will be at my neck for mentioning this game, but WoW had content patches every couple of months that kept players playing the game because there would always be new things to do and new adventures to have together so often! I want that for guild wars 2 as well…

I’ve been worried wondering if arenanet will be doing this or not. I’ve been under the impression that they wouldn’t be doing frequent content patches like WoW and that the only new content would come from expansions or that their content patches would be extremely spaced out like 5 months apart or something… I didn’t play guild wars 1 so I don’t know how arenanet works.

I’ve just been looking for some clarification on all this because I want to have new adventures in guild wars 2 often like I did in WoW.

This would help stop the snowballing effect and would create more skirmishes away from towers and keeps.

Right now it doesn’t really make sense to have the winning team dominate even harder with an extra 15% hp and +150 to stats. It makes it even harder for losing teams to get back into the game and I feel is a big contributor to why people tend to stop trying in WvW and go back to doing other things. With this change people would have a way to come back and it would give hope to those who are losing.

CoE explorable is broken in all paths.

Well my biggest issue with this fight and dungeons in general is. The poorly telegraphed abilities. Overlapping red circles are not a good way to telegraph an attack. Like if rocks are about to shoot up in a circle have the circle start rumbling before the attack. If the entire floor is about to be covered in ice (first boss of HotW story) have the floor start to ice up except for the area that is safe to stand in. Don’t throw a bunch of overlapping red circles around and expect people to be able to tell where to stand and where not to stand using that.

Subject Alpha. One of the most poorly designed fights in the entire game and you have to fight him 3 times in every path.

His biggest problem (and the biggest problem with ALL dungeons.) is that his abilities are not well telegraphed at all. Overlapping red circles are NOT a good way to telegraph abilities, arenanet.

The next problem is that his giant cluster kitten of red circles will one shot you if you get hit. Oh, also you fight him in relatively small areas so that giant cluster kitten of red circles fills up about 70% of the room with about 2 seconds to react to it.

He also has imprisonment crystals that completely prevent your character from being able to do anything until someone breaks it down. These things have a decent health pool and they don’t protect you from damage. Everyone is too busy trying to figure out which places are safe from the cluster kitten that they don’t have anytime to damage the crystal. Also the crystals can happen at any time which means you can get imprisoned and then have that giant, poorly telegraphed AoE under you right as you get imprisoned so you get instant killed with nothing you can do about it.

He also has a line of rock spikes he’ll shoot at you. You’re too busy trying to deal with all the rest of this bullkitten to even try to dodge that. This fight is a constant wipefest full of poorly telegraphed AoE instant kills.

Not to mention hes a legendary mob with a ludicrous amount of HP and guess what? You get to fight him 3 times in every path.

That or they could go back to the guild wars 1 set up.

@OP, instead of just saying these abilities are boring, I’d like to see you replace each of those skills with abilities that are “interesting”, without increasing the overall power of the kit.

Yes because every person in this thread is a capable developer.

I don’t mean to sound egotistic or like a jerk or anything but I think I could create some more fun weapons. Right now I’m about to head out and pick up a friend but when I get back I’d be glad to rework any weapons you suggest. I mean I’d probably leave some abilities because some are fine but I’d change others…

I also hate the dodging mechanic and the downed system. But that’s just me. Call me old fashioned but I don’t think the gameplay should focus around a mechanic where you call for help and just magically become healed when you kill a monster.

I really like the dodging mechanic. It adds a lot more skill to the gameplay. You have to keep in mind how many dodges someones used and you can dodge roll and completely negate someones burst. It makes it so you really have to pay attention to whats going on for both the person dodging and the person attacking. I think it adds a whole other level of skill and thought into the gameplay.
