My ticket’s title has changed to Eligible Account Restoration. I am so incredibly happy right now, but I hope it finishes in time for this event!

Thank you Anet! Godspeed!

Edit: If someone on the support team reads this, you should seriously consider sending out a message that says “We’ve given your account the OK for account restoration” or something like that, I kept checking my email and seeing nothing, assuming that I was being ignored when it wasn’t true at all.

I hope your account gets restored, as well as mine. My guild wars experience has been mostly great so far, until this. This makes me feel sick that someone can hack your account, steal your stuff, and might get away with the only person punished being you.

Hey there, here’s the real support ticket.

“121219-000861”

Sorry I got confused about that. Anyways, someone came by and removed all the unauthorized networks from my account. Thanks for that, by the way!

However, I submitted the ticket originally as a “Hacked Account” ticket from the Login Issues tab of support, and they made it sound like they thought that was my only problem. I’m REALLY running out of time for this christmas event, this is driving me NUTS.

Yeah, it looks like someone just bought themselves some gifts.

I just logged in for the first time since the fractals event last night, and found myself miles away from where I logged out last. I was in fireheart rise with an inventory full of junk, missing all my unique dungeon armor and my Ancient Karka Shell and more. They apparently left me 1g50s in my inventory so I could teleport out and check that, yes, they also cleaned out my personal bank.

This included some runes I was saving, ectoplasm, extra exotics, rare mats, and at least one rare shoulder skin I got from opening a black lion chest using real money.

I wanted to play the christmas event, but this whole affair has left me feeling like garbage. Is there any way that my stuff can be returned to me?

I went to the “Login Issues” in the Guild Wars support section, and filed the ticket “10548488” and would like to play with my brother as soon as possible! Thanks!

EDIT: Also, I just realized there are 3 “Authorized” locations in Korea and China that I can’t unauthorize. Can someone help me with that?

Dungeon Token Fix - Daily Achievement

Well, the idea would then be to increase this amount. 10 tokens is almost meaningless for a difference.

I’ve listed a (hopefully) decent fix to dungeon token rewards which has the potential to reduce farming by encouraging running dungeons once a day.

This should make the people who don’t run dungeons run them more and the ones who run them too much run them less.

How would that work? Wouldn’t failure in a fight mean that you lose time and money? Wouldn’t that make fights take longer and make token gathering less efficient?

It doesn’t seem worth it, so I think you’re observing a rare case of what we call “stupidity.” Who knows?

SeedsOfYggdrasil.6315

There’s a flaw in this plan, which is glaringly obvious when you consider it:

It doesn’t keep every dungeon populated. One dungeon would have the highest token/time ratio, meaning that everyone would farm one type of dungeon over every other type. That means that when you want to organize a party for Sorrow’s Embrace, nobody will be interested because they will be busy farming materials from another dungeon path.

I’ve posted a suggestion in a different forum if you’re willing to take a look.

Dungeon Token Fix - Daily Achievement

SeedsOfYggdrasil.6315

So, why is this idea good?

1. It has the potential to reduce the total number of runs that you must perform to complete a dungeon. This is great because not only would it make dungeons less repetitive, but it would also do a lot to fix the perceived grind involved in obtaining this armor.

2. It would add incentives to reduce farming of dungeons, while not making farming less effective. This idea would make farming dungeons less efficient than, lets say hypothetically, doing one dungeon a day. This would free up time for your character to do other activities, like world versus world or PvP. However, by not punishing farmers, this also allows those who want more instant gratification at a sloppier time-to-cost ratio to continue doing what they are doing.

3. It would make dungeons more of a long term investment, and hopefully keep players participating in dungeons longer. If we were to increase the token drops from dungeons by 200%, then players would “finish” dungeons quicker than if the drops were smaller. This would likely mean that dungeons would be obsolete in half the time, because there would be no reason to perform the explorable mode anymore. If we implemented a system that rewards doing ONE dungeon a day, without punishing multiple completes, players would hopefully spread their time in explorable dungeons over multiple days, rather than multiple times over small periods. If this would work as planned, it would be great towards making sure dungeons stayed populated, even if just at certain times of the day.

4. The non-skinned non-80 dungeon armors would be affordable if you wanted a quick boost. This is something many players complain about, because there is little to no point in listing those. However, with this addition, you could complete a dungeon and patch up your armor with minimal effort, if you so desired.

These aren’t the only good things about this system, but I’m sure there are more positive impacts this could add to the game.

Please offer positive and negative feedback, and help address any issues that I might have missed!

Warning: TWO POSTS! Skim to bold text if you want to cut to the chase. Also, this idea is NOT intended to be added to the current “Daily Achievement” for your character, but rather it’s own “daily achievement” entirely.

I was talking with some of my guild-mates the other day on the topic of dungeons, and specifically the special skinned armors that come through them. As we were talking, I had what I thought was a BRILLIANT idea that would go a long way towards improving the experience of completing dungeons for tokens.

Here’s the meat of the idea: The first time you complete an explorable mission each day, you will be rewarded with bonus tokens from the dungeon you have completed. After the first run each day, the system defaults to the current amount of token drops in the game.

It sounds like such a small fix, but I think it has the potential to make a huge positive impact on the game. Here’s why:

At the moment, there is a very vocal portion of the game population who are upset with dungeon rewards. Most players say that dungeon rewards are too slow, and that you have to make unrealistic amounts of sacrifices to receive what are more-or-less special looking pieces of armor. At the moment, it takes about 60-72 runs through dungeons to receive a full set of armor, which could very well translate into 60-72 hours of playtime, without considering speed-runs and exploits. These players believe this is too much.

On the other hand, there are many players who believe that those who put the effort into receiving these armors deserve them, and that there should be a significant time investment involved as opposed to more instant gratification. This is a perfectly valid response, because it rewards players who make commitments, and can be used as a trophy to show how much you invested in your character.

I personally agree with both sides of this argument. Dungeon armors should be a long term investment you make with your character, but you shouldn’t be forced to perform a repetitive action in excess to receive gratification. To this extent, a daily bonus for completing a dungeon would, hopefully, help bridge this gap. I’ll detail why in the following post.

This is because Arenanet has taken a stance that:

1. Dungeons should be very hard.
2. The rewards should be limited.

These two pillars of their philosophy have accidentally made dungeons unfun, unrewarding, frustrating, and a waste of time that could be spent doing something else. Nobody wants to put themselves through dungeons anymore.

It’s more like 30 for the first run then 20 for each afterwards. Also, non-exotic armor doesn’t even have the SKIN for you to transmute. It’s literally useless to buy anything but the most expensive items.

It used to be that you’d spend 210 for a non-exotic armor which had the right skin for the dungeon that you’d transmute onto your exotic armor and make it have the right skin you wanted for your effort. Arenanet decided that grind is great and now makes it so that you have to grind for 65 runs or so just for your skin.

God kitten it.

Who isn't running dungeons for gear only?

SeedsOfYggdrasil.6315

When you lose something instead of gain something for working in an MMO, it’s intensely flawed.

Some people just dont get it. Money and gear are not the main part to play a dungeon or a game. Its to play with friends, to enjoy the game, to work together, to relax after a long day of work. If I lose money every time I play a dungeon then i’m oke with it. Because I had a great time and the experience I had was a lot greater then the money and gear I can get out of it.

No, you don’t get it. Everyone loves to work together, relax, and have fun with friends. That’s how dungeons are if you complete the story, then complete each explorable path.

As soon as you attempt to do ANYTHING more than that, relaxation, teamwork, and fun go RIGHT out the window. They’re replaced by boredom, memorization, and repetition. We’re practically PLEADING with Anet to at least make the act of gathering gear enjoyable for us somehow. Making it less enjoyable is a marked step in the wrong direction.

Dungeons on my behalf

Guildwars 2 stated that there is no need to grind, there isn’t! Having these speed run dungeon in the game will inflate the economy. Where you can’t afford your armor set because the people who does have more free time will just keep increasing the cost for weapons/armors because those are the one that are able to afford it and keep it up. (I’m not a big statistic guy when it comes to the economy so you’re free to fixed me if I’m wrong. I like other people opinions.)

I barely understand this statement, but it sounds incorrect.

If anything, it will decrease the price. If someone has a full set of exotic armor, it becomes less likely that they will buy other armors. When there is a smaller demand for exotic armor, the price will drop and make exotic armor more affordable for other users. In addition, if the availability of dungeon armor increased, more users would attempt to get them, meaning more dungeon runs and more populated dungeons.

This increased popularity of dungeons would not last forever, though. After collecting every style of armor, there would be less incentive to run it again. Personally, I think that this would not be a problem, assuming that Anet will deliver with new dungeons and content by this period.

I hate the alternative, which is where nothing changes and we’re forced to do repetitive content as some rite of passage into MMO fame, aka nobody really caring what you’re dressed like in-game.

SeedsOfYggdrasil.6315

There’s this argument that’s been going around that’s absolutely ludicrous.

“If you don’t want to put in the effort for the gear, then don’t do it.”

First of all, yes. Obviously, that’s true. However, it doesn’t make it a justification for the cost of gaining exotic gear from dungeons. It shouldn’t be chore to gain the armor in the first place. It should feel like you’ve accomplished something, not just the hollow feeling that comes with knowing you threw away a weeks worth of casual play just to look slightly different.

Anet didn’t promise us that they would give us a piece of gear after every run of the dungeon. They implied it, and used vague language which made us believe they were doing something great by abandoning the formula used by other MMOs. Maybe you can believe that they didn’t lie to us, but I know what they did. This is just disappointing when I look back and look at how I participated in every playtest and promised my friends they removed the grind. The dungeon skins could be obtained super easily, and I was very happy. My friends didn’t believe me. To imagine the absolute irony…

Arena Net’s solution to complaints of lack of end-game content is as follows:

1. Make dungeons, and accidentally make them tedious and unrewarding.
2. Make a blog post explaining how dungeons are great end-game content.
3. Make dungeons even MORE unfun and unrewarding to counteract how players attempt to make dungeons fun and rewarding on their own.

I know this is basically a caricaturization of the facts, but sadly, this is still what I honestly believe has happened.

That’s always bound to happen though. Even if there was a game where you had absolute freedom, some things would be forced upon you whether you liked them or not. If there is a thunderstorm outside, you can’t just decide you don’t want it and it’s gone. Working for the order means you have to take orders for a while, until you become more important.

And with that last sentence, you will NOT be happy when you meet Trahearne…

I’m only at around level 65ish in my personal story and I’ve already decided I hate it.

Seriously, who thought it was a good idea to take the HUGE variety of story quests and then make them all converge onto the same stupid plot line? There choices you made in the past DON’T matter at all. They don’t change dialogue, or plot, or anything.

This became SERIOUSLY apparent when The Pale Tree didn’t say “Order of Whispers” when I finished the vision quest, but instead she said “Your Order” which stood out as “Oh, whichever order you choose before this point does not matter now either, so lets use a generic qualifier to save time” and that REALLY bums me out.

My brother was Asuran, and he had a personal story which included Gorr the Asura (I think his name is) and he was very happy to see him again in the Order of Whispers quest line… up until the point where I saw him too. And he treated me just like my brother, with the same dialogue. He was really depressed about that. It ruined the experience for him, revealing that his choices did not matter at all.

Of course, this is all falling upon deaf ears, because there’s NO WAY Anet intends to remake new personal story paths after release, but still. It’s just disappointing.

There’s a second tab which has level 80 armor with unique skins.

Go look again.

That being said, the prices on that are EVEN WORSE. If you thought that Guild Wars 1 had end-game grind, just wait until you run the same dungeon 72 times to complete a SINGLE suit of special armor. Imagine the repair costs and time not-spent ACTUALLY HAVING FUN with the game. Utterly ridiculous.

Better nerf dungeons now

SeedsOfYggdrasil.6315

The gist of most people’s concerns about dungeons are not that the dungeons as a whole are too hard, but rather much too tedious.

Non-boss enemies in the dungeon instances have far too much health, which means that most fights are an unnecessary grind. Due to this, dungeons take a very long time for most teams to complete. The slayer of Issomir and the Hero of Queensdale shouldn’t need to spend a full minute or two fighting a guard dog. It’s immersion breaking and time wasting.

The bosses are normally great, and in some instances AMAZING, for instance in Sorrow’s Furnace story mode (no spoilers!).

All-in-all, random mobs BAD, bosses GOOD. And don’t get me started on dungeon tokens. I love Arena Net, but this is just ridiculous. You shouldn’t have to run the same dungeon 10-12 times to get a single piece of special skinned armor. The dungeon rewards make me SERIOUSLY want to reconsider my trust in the company which promised every dungeon rewards you with unique gear and that they want to remove the grind from the MMO formula. Excuse me, what do you think YOU just did?
