There are no capes because they cause major clipping issues. If those can be solved, capes will be back, why do you think we have a back accessory slot in the first place?
It ultimately boils down to this: you might not like travel costs, but they are not expensive at all and they’re really good for the economy as a whole. Eat your vegetables, kids.
I believe he meant server resets, not downtime. These usually have 1 hour warnings, but sometimes kitten happens.
What it really does is just park everyone in orr and make them rarely if ever leave.
It is also a poor inflation reduction tool considering the people REALLY causing inflation A) Do not move much (13+ hour a day people who farm) or
Telehack (botters who farm).
All it does it hinder the player base from easily meeting up and doing dungeons and the such – which is not much more then a drastic annoyance.
People park in Orr because it’s currently the best farming spot, not because travel is expensive. Even if travel was free, there’d be little incentive to be elsewhere.
The effectiveness of this game’s gold sinks can be seen in that there has been remarkably little inflation since launch, with the notable exception of legendary precursors. Anet has clearly done something right here.
As for it preventing people from meeting up, this is fiction. It takes maybe 5 minutes to offset the cost of the most expensive waypoint fee you could possibly incur. If you can’t be bothered to pay that, then you couldn’t be bothered to meet at all.
The reasoning behind people complaining about the waypoint costs is the same as people that want monsters to drop more gold or better loot: you want to be richer, without realizing that if everybody gets more money then prices will simply go up by that much and you’ll be no better off.
The travel costs are one of the most efficient money sinks in the game. Removing or lowering them would increase inflation, which would defeat the purpose of saving money on travel.
Current travel costs are around 4s for going from one corner of the world to the other. That amount is easily gained back by doing a single event (up to 2s) and killing a few mobs (~40c per drop). That’s hardly expensive.
Corax is right, though I couldn’t find the actual quote from the devs. The problem with capes is clipping, if they can fix it then be sure they’ll come.
Also, petition threads are against forum rules, so be careful when writing “sign this” at the end of a suggestion.
DDO has an in-game voice chat system, but all hardcore users still use Ventro or Mumble.
Let me try this again. What are the advantages that Vent and Mumble have over DDO’s in-game voice chat? Why do hardcore users still use them?
The game was made to encourage cooperation and to prevent griefing as much as possible, so open world PvP would run against some core design choices.
Furthermore, servers with different rules segregate the community and demand specific fixes, spreading developer resources.
If you like open PvP, GW2’s version of that is WvW. Have you tried it?
I do agree and think voice chat is one of the major features that could be implemented. I’m sure there are issues with server load and bandwidth, but if at all possible, do it.
I believe the official comment on this issue was “all is fair in love and WvW”. Since the servers are from roughly the same time zone, there is no unfair advantage.
Hi there! First, congrats on doing RP. Rock on.
Your suggestion to add a bio page is fun and I have nothing against it, but it should be very low on a list of priorities, since I don’t see such a feature as being very useful to the majority of players. And it absolutely should not include a clickable link, because virus/malware/scams/gold sellers.
On Reddit the programmers have said they’re working on APIs and other ways of interacting with game data, such as a virtual armory. Once that feature or something similar is online you could probably add a bio page to it pretty easily.
Have fun o/
I remember doing that. I got killed a lot too. Eventually I stealthed my way to the top (Mass Invisibility + Decoy as a Mesmer) and killed the three dredge that are there. Watch for the knockback attacks and dodge them, shouldn’t be too hard.
Any nerfs for warrior or afraid to lose a job?
Makes me start to wonder if they’re trying to balance with their eyes closed.
Why insult the devs? You think this makes your requests more likely to be heard?
Dont get me wrong here…why cant you look at the party bar on the left of the screen??
We can, but an extra cue would be welcome, much as you can see the dodge bar right in the center of the screen and yet there’s an audio cue for when it is full.
Did they say anything about player houses?
They did not.
We don’t even know how Magic Find works in the first place, it seems premature to rethink it.
I find it very strange that the game, as it is now, lacks some easy mechanism to group up — either dynamically or at least in an easier fashion.
As Sam pointed out, GW2 is designed not to require parties, as essentially everyone around you is already part of your party. If you feel like starting a conversation then go ahead on /say or /map, I’ve personally found players to be very receptive to it.
As for his points about the challenge involved, we agree that events could deal with large numbers of players better, but we disagree on how to do it, so I’ll leave it at that.
I second that. We already have a sound to tell when the Dodge bar is half full, this would be welcome, especially if optional.
These are punishable. Just document everything with screenshots and file a support ticket.
How can not including a user adjustable FOV setting be anything other than a design decision ?
Could be a technical limitation on the engine, could be an issue with player culling and network load, could cause problems with the planned console version… we don’t really know, but I expect the programmers do.
As for the possibilities of bugs in FOV calculations, I don’t really care if they are bugs or poor decisions. I just want them fixed.
Now that’s just unnecessary. They acknowledged the issue and said there’s a team involved. They’re fixing it.
You can hide the UI (including the chat) with ctrl+shift+h.
Devs have repeatedly said this is not being considered right now. Just roll an alt.
I don’t get what you’re saying. How would the dead mesmer be able to bring his team inside?
Search the forums for FoV and you’ll see a LOT more about this issue. Basically, the reason why you feel you need to zoom out is because the FoV is really narrow. Anet is looking into it.
If there were no sales taxes flipping markets would be just too easy.
No need to create different areas. Just make a harsher downscaling option available and increase rewards accordingly.
Fresh from Reddit:
“We’ve heard players loud and clear on this one. But we’re not prepared to answer yet because we just convened a team to investigate, on Monday in fact, and we want to give them time to investigate. For example, there may be a bug affecting FoV calculations in widescreen resolutions. We want to know what’s a bug and what’s by design before we change the design.”
The official comment was that Anet has nothing against farmers. The DR system is supposed to hurt botters and exploiters only. Expect the system to be tuned for the next patches.
I think this is a reasonable request and shouldn’t be too hard to implement. But seriously, how do you sell stuff on the TP by accident? I can totally understand double-clicking stuff on a merchant, but this is hilarious.
I don’t have a Ranger and I have no idea how bad the nerf was, but can’t you just use another weapon until the next content patch?
- Being able to see my Name and Guild over my head as an option
Why?
As for the Asura eyes, they glow in the dark. That’s it.
It bumps the post to the first page and increases visibility. Some ideas are so simple that you can’t really improve on them, so all you can do is voice your agreement. Example: Karma should be account-bound.
In a related subject, what the kittens does the +1 button do, anyway?
Huh. So I was wrong. I guess I should freak out then.
Seriously, we all agree Warriors are not OP. I believe the next content patch is Oct 22, let’s see what we’ll see about the other classes then.
A dev was talking about this on the Dungeon forums. Basically, it’s a very bad idea to talk about stuff that you’re not sure it’s going to make it to the game, because players take devs to be Word of God. Especially considering the iterative nature of their development, any idea they’re brainstorming now will more than likely be killed or changed beyond recognition by the time it appears on the game. It’d just upset the players.
Sure, I get that you want devs to be more active in the forums, but consider how swamped they must be right now. There are bugs everywhere. Give it time.
Like the Zaishen Missions in GW1. I’m sure the Live Team knows how popular it was, and consider it as a tool. However, that was particularly relevant to GW1 because it had few players, and unless they were pointed at the same direction it was near impossible to find groups for older content. So I guess it’s not needed for now.
Thanks for that opportunity, I’ll take it.
This is how they work: first, the devs spend 8 hours a day scouring the forums for any signs of disgruntled players, especially poorly spelled threads with nondescriptive titles and posted on the wrong forums, such as this one. Basically, whoever whines the louder gets a buff.
I don’t get this at all, I’m in Crystal Desert and I’m tripping up on people.
-Looking For Group
This is being worked on.
-Trading Post
Also being worked on.
-Instance Kicking
GW1 had this, shouldn’t be too hard to implement.
Sylvari glow
Indeed you can preview Sylvari glow in character creation. Just click the lightbulb and the lights will go out, allowing you to see how you’ll look in the dark. This also works for Asura eyes. Not to mention there’s a “Glow Color” picker, that should’ve tipped you.
Dear kittens. Let me try this again.
You said was that your class was getting “screwed”. I pointed out that the game is very young and that there is a dedicated team to balance it. Some rough patches are to be expected. What is your point, exactly?
Fixing issues should be a much bigger priority than nerfing.
These aren’t usually done by the same team.
“Who’d want a perfume that gives you harpies”?
Heh, classic Wark.
A lot of classes have reasons to nag. Atm, wars and thiefs are pretty well balanced. The rest have issues. A lot of them. Ranger is one of the worse and so are eles.
Sure, but why do you think devs are not doing anything about this? It’s not a matter of blind faith, GW1 had weekly updates for its whole life. There was an Elementalist balance just a few weeks ago! The game is a month old, there will be_lots_ of nerfs and buffs until things are somewhat balanced.
General PvE is a relaxed area where many playing styles should be welcome. I don’t think they should change it. By the time you hit Orr, just try not dodging an fury-stacked Abomination and see how that works out for you.
If you wish for more advanced tactics and teamwork, try dungeons, they’re awesome.
Read the Mesmer forums, everyone there is complaining. Or read the Elementalist forums, they’re pretty unhappy too. Or read any class forum on any MMO ever. Players always complain that their class is too weak and whine about nerfs, it’s just how it is.
Luckily devs have access to actual data from which to determine if a class is losing too much in PvP, or dealing too little damage, or not being played, or whatever. GW1 had a pretty good balance record (in PvP at least), so I trust Anet to balance these things out over time.
My only issue with sigils, etc is that I don’t see them existing at all on my Engineer kits. I switch from pistol/shield to grenade kit/elixir gun/ whatever and my HP drops suddenly by a couple hundred, I lose a bit of crit chance, and I lose some Magic find in the process. Makes me sad.
I believe this is being fixed.
The sigil of your main hand weapon can only proc off of auto attacks and the 2nd/3rd skill slots while your off hand sigil can only proc off of 4th and 5th slot skills.
I did not know that.
Wha… but… where did…
Ok, let me try to be constructive here.
Warrior has been said to be the profession that the devs were most happy with, so they’re the stick by which the others are measured. No sense in nerfing something that’s working fine. If it was needed, they could always buff the rest.
Other than that, warriors are not OP. They’re definitely not “much more powerful than any comparable build on any profession”. If they were, you’d see nothing but warriors on sPvP or dungeons, those guys are pretty quick to identify OP stuff.
Suggestion on Anet communication regarding bots...and karma exploiting.

Considering how swamped they are right now, I wouldn’t assume they know about anything. This looks pretty serious.
Then again, there’s no way to inflate karma prices, so I guess this is harmless to the economy, just really annoying.
Hardest one i’ve done is Weyandt’s Revenge….in Frostmaw Caverns in Lions Arch…in the dark. Took me hours….but that’s life… There is a chest at the end. These people who thing the game should be a walk in the park are hilarious….
Fun fact, the Fiery Dragon Sword (HoM weapon skin) gives enough light that you can see your way. I’m sure other weapons and skills work as well.
