I don’t think this is the right forum to talk about exploits. Have you posted about this karma exploit thing on the Bugs forum?

If overall prices rose, this wouldn’t change profit for trash. Items that are selling for vendor +1 simply have no value other than the artificially set vendor one, and overall inflation would not increase demand. You’d still make no money out of those.

What makes waypoint fees a good gold sink is that everyone uses them, which is not the case with, say, legendary weapons. Also, they’re not “arguably” necessary.

You make a good point that they seem to inhibit helping people out, though. I certainly don’t much care about spending a few silvers (or about 5 minutes of playing time) to hang out with a friend, but some people do. Then again, those must be pretty lousy friends.

If you want survivability, Staff is where it’s at. Phase Retreat, Chaos Armor, Chaos Storm, and a +50 Toughness trait.

You want a Power/Precision build, though, so I guess Sword+Sword for the block. Sword/Focus can be traited to reflect projectiles, I found this and the swiftness to help tremendously in high-pressure areas. Also, save Mirror Images for just before when you want to heal, and for christ’s sake don’t use your sylvari heal, it’s really bad.

This needs to change!

I cant kill group event content or some skill challenges.. Its really annoying.

So you can’t solo content designed for a group. I don’t see the problem. At all. Just do something else. Also, you say you can’t find people playing? Try moving to a fuller server, Crystal Desert has people everywhere.

As a side note, the title for this thread says nothing.

Racial Elites

SevenSigma.7462

500 hours?! Holy kittens.

Anyway. Yeah, racial elites are a bit on the weak side, but I’m perfectly fine with this. If they were strong, then you’d have builds that depended on them, and all of the sudden every non-Asura Elementalist is second-tier. That’s extremely bad, and indeed was a reason why many GW1 players were very worried about this whole “races” thing in GW2.

The racials are there for flavor and for niche situations. I myself use the racial healing as a sylvari Mesmer simply because my class has no other reliable way of providing Regeneration. It’s much worse at healing than my class heals, but Regeneration also gives me Protection so it evens out.

SevenSigma.7462

I don’t mind it either if it’s optional, but it really doesn’t seem like a good idea to me. Movement is everything in GW2’s combat, and there’s no way you’d not accidentally move while trying to aim an AoE with the mouse or select a Volatile Bloom on TA. Honestly, I think they’re saving you a lot of frustration.

SevenSigma.7462

Travel fees are really cheap compared to the money you make. Just do an event (1-2 silver) and kill a few mobs (~60c per drop) and you break even. The only way you lose money on this is if you teleport just for the sake of it.

Also, the waypoint fees are effective gold sinks, and without it the inflation would be higher, which means everything would be more expensive, which kinda defeats the point of saving money on waypoints in the first place.

SevenSigma.7462

The current downscaling still makes you a god in lower-level areas, so I really don’t see the problem here.

And you think making earlier areas even more trivial than they are now for level 80 characters would make things more interesting? No thank you.

Edit: read my reply and realized it sounded a bit aggressive. Not my intention. Anyway, if you feel like you’ve beat the game… have you tried dungeons? WvW? Cool new skins for your armor and weapons?

Auto-adaptable toughness of jumping puzzle suggestion

SevenSigma.7462

There are so many of these posts. The formula is “make X easier!”, where X is a completely optional part of the game that is meant as a challenge. Legendary weapons, map completion, explorable mode dungeons… today it’s jumping puzzles.

I mean, what do you get out of a jumping puzzle? A chest and an achievement. It’s not even a title. It won’t impact your character in any way. It’s not like the difficulty is preventing you from progressing in the game, or getting somewhere important.

Think of it like a bonus dungeon in a classic RPG. It exists because it’s challenging. It’s ok that not everyone is able to do it blindfolded. In fact, that’s kind of the point. If you can’t do it, rethink your strategy (Mesmers have a nifty skill called Portal that you might want to check out) or just go do something else and no one will think less of you because of it.

I feel its a very bad model and promotes less teamwork. Which in that case you might as well go play a console game. Whats the point of a MMO if you do most of the content by yourself?

I don’t think most people feel about this as you do. Kotaku, Eurogamer and several others credited this casual system as being much more social and “multiplayer” than other MMOs.

There is remarkably little griefing in the game. The best you can do is aggro mobs and drop them on AFK players.

Dead branches have been abused on pretty much every game they exist, and since Anet has a strict policy against griefing… it’s not going to happen.

You never have to group with anyone at all except if you want to do dungeons

This is intentional. You just casually group up with whoever is around and doing the same thing. This is why all support skills are AoE, this is why there are no targeted heals, this is why you can share loot. You might not like it, but it’s intended and it was explained well before the game launched.

You never have to group with anyone at all except if you want to do dungeons
So to be different they got rid of the basic D&D model and went with something else

GW1 had heavy Magic: The Gathering influences. GW2 seems to draw from D&D 4th edition, especially the focus on mobility and damage mitigation.

Make PVE More Challenging

  • Event bosses suffer from poor DE scaling, which is already being discussed on a number of threads.
  • PvE challenge is about right for players on the same level of the area, once you over-level it becomes trivial, despite the downscaling.
  • Each dungeons is its own thing and needs to be treated as such. Devs seem to think explorable mode is too easy. I find them challenging, but not exactly hard.

Discussion of outward scaling for DEs is being discussed here

From that thread:

Siege us. Nuke us. Blast our groups, break our formations, bleed our lines. Make players split up to take down multiple objectives in a massive fight, and force teamwork by giving the opposition their own strategic cohesion. The zerg won’t be defeated by more zerging by the NPCs. The zerg will be broken when the opposition steps up its game, and forces players to do the same.

reward support in wvwvw

SevenSigma.7462

Banning is a good deterrent to exploiting but by no means perfect, or you’d see no bots around. As for safe areas, anywhere near an Asura gate is basically safer than PvE. You could also go to a remote area, and since allies can’t disrupt the combo exploit and you don’t show up on your enemies’ map, it should be reasonably safe.

If getting badges from support would be so hard that a couple characters doing nothing else only got 10 from a night, then it’s essentially worthless to everyone else, who might maybe see one badge drop in a month.

Anyway, we’re getting bogged down by the specifics of an hypothetical system. Point is: we all agree it would be nice to reward support, but it’s trickier than you might think.

EDIT: If auto-attacking didn’t work anymore, people would just switch to AutoHotKey. If it was that easy to flag people for automatic behavior, there’d be no bots.

I like this idea. The “Legendary” comes from the other requirements of the weapon, the exotic precursors don’t need to be THAT hard to get.

Let me expand a little. First, I hate those posts about people wanting to make X easier to get. Vanity items can be arbitrarily hard to obtain, no problem. I just thing RNG is bad design, and creates unnecessary frustration on some of the game’s most dedicated players. You can keep the current difficulty the same (in terms of time to achieve it), but make it so you feel like you’re steadily progressing instead of just throwing money away.
