When I say “easily exploitable”, I mean as in “automatically”. As in, “you don’t even have to be playing”. Just let one combo skill on autocast in one character, a finisher on autocast on the other, go to sleep, wake up with shiny new badges.

Killing is very hard to exploit because it would take extended cooperation from both teams. Even if you and your friends go to some corner and start sparring, soon someone from either team will com up to see what the kittens is that green dot doing all over there, and then the gig is up. The only killing exploit I’ve seen involved bots and dozens of different accounts making a Death Ball.

You are not forced to do anything to get Mystic Coins. Not only you can get them from the dailies (that do not involve PvP), but you can also buy them on the TP, quite cheaply in fact.

People really don’t seem to grasp the concept of “achievements”.

How is killing exploitable? I’m interested.

Combo Field is the easiest to exploit, just get one character spamming a field and another spamming a finisher.
Healing and Reviving could both be exploited by simply staying in the range of enemy siege weapons (often in the safety of a keep’s walls) and, you know, healing and reviving.

I’m not against the idea of alternate rewards, but we need to be realistic here.

Reviving – 10% as its at least as important as killing. Might be even a bit more important.

Healing – 0.005%*(Amount/100) its important aspect too. We don’t want those capable of keeping our offence alive to camp damage just to get those darn badges. Well, they shouldn’t camp healing either, and they can’t since when people are at max HP, they aren’t getting any heals.

Combo field – 0.005% for every activation. Combo fields give a nice bonus to the speed you get your opponents down, and there are the kind of “support” professions that deal way less damage (and don’t get as many drops as they can’t seem to hit the treshold atm. At least not by playing support.)

These are all easily exploitable.

Bosses and chests need to give better rewards.

Chiming in to say that I agree, tough mobs need to have loot comparable to their difficulty. Not sure they don’t already, though. Loot is random and champion mobs are somewhat rare, so even if they had a much better chance of dropping good stuff, you wouldn’t necessarily notice it because of the limited sample size.

That era is far from gone my friend, and it will never truly be gone if a game company wishes to continue to have a solid player base.
I don’t want to see this game lose the player base. I want this game to be successful like EVERYONE else. The current system implemented is not good enough.

It’s exactly the same system as GW1, and it worked fine. You’re just used to a different way of doing things, and that’s ok, but Anet was very clear about how things were going to work. There is no gear grinding or carrot-and-stick character progression.

Now, we can discuss other improvements for the endgame (I for one think downscaling could be much better), but we really need to get over this obsession with gear grinding.

I really liked getting elites from bosses. Not only it felt like an achievement, it had a cool collecting element to it. The problem is that it’s very tricky to balance, and it forced players to do content they might not like just so they can compete.

I feel the current system of skill points preserves some of the collecting and achievement aspect from GW1, while avoiding those balance issues.

If you could only make one change to GW2 what would it be?

Look man, I get you, but it’s just not doable. Think of how much work it would be to create instances for every single dynamic event in the game. How many are there? Think of the server load as every party in every event in the world gets its own copy of the map. There is a point where it stops being a suggestion and it starts being a magic wish.

And like I said, DEs are supposed to scale to the number of players. This system works well for middle-ground numbers, and breaks for too many or too few players. Fixing this issue could be as simple as tweaking the scaling.

If you could only make one change to GW2 what would it be?

in Suggestions

Posted by: SevenSigma.7462

SevenSigma.7462

If I could make one change suggestion that made it into a future patch it would be a feature that allows a party to enter an instance of any event. This would add team-oriented play back to the open world and not limit it to dungeons, it would be a significant change for the better and bring the fun back.

While you’re absolutely right in that events are often dull because there are too many or too few people, this could be fixed by tweaking the scaling. Instancing the whole world is simply not doable. And I do find plenty of teamwork on the open world, especially in the tougher areas. Players will spontaneously group up to explore the maps or do event chains. They don’t party up because there is no need to.

Now to answer the original question, I’d change downscaling. As it is, you are still too strong when you get back to lower level areas, and the loot is orders of magnitude worse. I’d be happy to explore low-level areas if I could still have some semblance of challenge, and the loot was at least in the same ballpark.

Yes, but you have a small number of them, and they are very time waisting.

Missions usually took around 30m, while also requiring a party.

There will be more dungeons as they add more content. For now, each dungeon has three different paths + story mode, so there is more to do than you might think. As for time, you can certainly do dungeons in 30 min if your party knows what it’s doing.

Considering that you only get the tokens when you kill the boss, that would be extremely frustrating. I’m all for dungeons being hard, but no second chances? What is this, Demon Souls?
In the current system, if everyone waypoints back the boss resets, so someone has to stay alive and fighting while the rest runs back. If the team wipes, the boss fight starts over from the beginning. Seems fair to me.

Remember the GW1 “endgame”? GW1 max level was 20 and max stats gear was trivial. The “endgame” was to explore the world, get achievements, do Hard Mode versions of the regular content, do elite missons, get cool skins, engage in PvP.

Stop me when you realize GW2 follows the same model. If you expect something like WoW… you won’t get it.

Plus the game is a month old, and everyone knows they’re working on more content. They have a huge live team. The first expansion is doubtless under development. There is plenty to do. If you’re really bored, then take a break and come back later, it’s not like there’s a monthly fee.

SevenSigma.7462

I agree with most of what you said, so I’ll focus on where I disagree:
Pets getting loot
Since only a single class has pets… no.
Dungeons difficulty toggle for less than 5 people
That would be crazy hard to balance, and I really think it’s not a good investment of the devs’ time. It’s perfectly acceptable to have content designed for people that like to play in groups, just as there is a pretty large chunk of the game designed for people that like PvP. Just get a group or do something else.
Duel skill system
The game is barely a month old, expect major balancing for quite some time. After that is settled, sure, implement PvE and PvP skills if you must.
Rotating skill bar
What makes the utility skills interesting is precisely their opportunity costs. If you can just carry all of the good ones all the time, then you have no meaningful decisions to make in skill selection.

Is Mesmer the worst class in the game for Dungeons?

SevenSigma.7462

I hear Rangers are the worst class for dungeons. I ran quite a few explorable dungeons with rangers and had no problems, though.

As for us, maybe try something different? I had a much easier time once I switched to a staff toughness build. I’m sure hardcore dungeoneers have their own strategies, but as a regular mesmer I don’t feel like I have problems with dungeons at all.

As to when you’d want a Mesmer over any other class, I can think of two situations: tough mobs with lots of ranged projectiles (Feedback, iWarden, traited Distortion), and whenever you need to run past lots of enemies (Portal, Mass Invisibility and Blink).

You can go to the Heart of the Mists and try stuff out for yourself. This is what I know:

  • Phantasm damage scales with your Power
  • Phantasm damage is not affected by which weapon you’re using

Now, this is what I think:

  • Phantasms seem to inherit your stats when created, including not only Power but Precision and Toughness as well.
  • Condition Damage sometimes seem to affect phantasm condition damage and sometimes it doesn’t, I’m not sure about this one.

Also remember that the WvW servers reset each week, so if thinks are looking dire for your side, just try again a few days later. Follow the zerg around and get the points on its path, and then stealth whatever it’s left. It’s really not that hard.

  • Unique weapon/armor skins, similar to how the HoM ones work
  • Town clothing, miniatures and other items already available on the store
  • An achievement/title for opening chests, similar to the Lucky/Unlucky one in GW1
  • “Eternal” Tonics, rarer tonics with boss and major NPCs skins

And so on. I’m sure Anet has already thought of many of those.
