Colin Johnson did say that professions where the last on there list and they where not working on that for now at all. That is the one thing he was clear about. The video where he says it is still available but I don’t have a link for you, you will need to do some searching if you don’t believe me.

So maps, classes and much more you can expect but forget about profession for a long time to come. Maybe she mend she could not say anything about it because there was nothing to say about?

That was said back in a livestream in July of 2013 – nearly a year ago. As to whether “the end of the list” is any closer than it is now, though, I can’t find a trace. It’d be nice to hear a bit more of an up-to-date stance on future content (both big and small), but I’m sure ArenaNet can only tell us what they’ve finalized – no point in telling us we’re going to get apples and, six months down the road, get bananas instead.

I like GW2 because of its business model, its armor/weapon models/textures/effects (I would love to meet and thank the person(s) involved in designing the armor and weapons), it’s combat, and its consistent updates – I think these are a few of the things it does well.

One thing I wouldn’t mind hearing more about is optimization being performed on GW2. I know they add changes over time that are subtle and in the works, but it’s one of the things that I just like hearing about – regardless of the game. But I don’t expect ArenaNet to take it upon themselves to pander to me. Not even I would advise they do that. :p

New Professions/Races Inbound?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

From: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Upcoming_changes_and_features

General Content:

  • New weapon types and expansion of current weapon types to more professions.
  • Character progression, new professions and races.
  • New regions and dragons.

Reading over articles on the internet… It looks like they could have content along the lines of an expansion coming out (at least in terms of size), but when I went to browse the forums, I noticed nothing being mentioned by, well, by anyone. If the information from the wiki holds any truth, I would imagine ArenaNet announcing it hopefully within the next few months. But that begs the question… What kind of new profession would they release? I didn’t play the original Guild Wars, but it looks like a number of the professions had at least some of their traits carried over to the existing professions of GW2.

Sorry if I’m bringing up something that’s already been discussed to death elsewhere (in which case, just tell me I’m blind and hand me the link), but I’m far from the most knowledgeable GW2 player, so I was curious to see what others thought.

I hope that Lion’s Arch is eventually rebuilt. I think it’d be neat of ArenaNet to implement an event where players can help rebuild it (if they actually do plan to rebuild it to some state of its former glory).

Hi everyone! I’ve had a GW2 account for well over a year now, but I haven’t been able to play much since last June. I’ve been looking into some of the new changes such as Lion’s Arch being destroyed and how ArenaNet has added a number of new features and overhauls to GW2 (example: the Hero interface is a bit different from how I remember it).

Trying to play my Engineer and Guardian right away has made me realize that I have forgotten quite a bit of the game, and the implementation of new systems only multiplied that effect. What I’d like to do is start a new profession, but to that end, I have a few questions:

1) Aside from Engineer and Guardian, what profession would you recommend I start anew with?

2) I noticed posts about traits being reworked – or something to that end – could I ask for a summary on this?

3) Has the game been noticeably optimized in the past year? My system could run the game quite well before, but I don’t think anyone can complain about a higher framerate.

That should be about it for now – if there’s anything else that was added and is relatively crucial, if anyone could bring me up to speed or just point it out so I could look into it myself, it’d be greatly appreciated!

FPS issues, Buy or Build new PC?

Im crunching numbers, and trying to decide if I should buy a new PC or build one myself. My main components that I want are these:

Intel Core i5-4670K Quad-Core Desktop Processor 3.4 GHZ
MSI Computer Corp. NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 Ti
Corsair Vengeance 8GB DDR
Corsair CX750 PSU
Gigabyte GA-Z87X-UD3H MoBo
NZXT Source 210 ELITE Midtower Case

I always recommend to people to build their PC if possible. Not only is it cheaper, but once you know how to put a computer together, it can save you a lot of money in the long-run when you just want to upgrade a sole component rather than buying a new system entirely. I say this because a number of pre-built computers come with proprietary parts that make it difficult or flat-out impossible to upgrade.

If possible, I recommend to get a GTX 760 GPU. Otherwise, it looks like a pretty solid system. Good luck!

I really hope that ArenaNet sees this thread

Buying new Gaming PC

I’d definitely suggest to go with an Intel CPU; it’ll do you well for gaming compared to an AMD processor. If you’re completely against building your own computer, then I suggest looking (as stated before) around for a better custom-PC shop.

Laptop, <$800, low settings

Sheer.7529

I would, but I’m halfway through college four hours from home, so buying a desktop is rather impractical at this point in life. I can always get a desktop after I have a more permanent living situation.

While I can’t say how you’re exact situation is, I can say that, I too, am at college four hours away from home and recently bought the parts to build my own desktop. The only downside to it is that it lacks the mobility of a laptop – since I don’t need a computer in any of my actual classes (outside of the computers that are provided), having a desktop in my dormitory for gaming and working on projects fit well for me. Again, I can’t say what your exact predicament is, so this may seem irrelevant, but I hope it might provide some feedback.

Nevertheless, if you want a laptop that could run this game on low or medium settings, I’d suggest looking for something that has at least:

Processor: 2.0GHz, quad-core
RAM: 4GB
GPU (Video Card): GTX6xxM series or Radeon 7xxxM series

For example, something like this:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834216457

I can’t say whether GW2 supports Windows 8, though. So make sure you look into that before you buy a laptop. At the very least, have a way to put Windows 7 on the machine.

Another example of a laptop that’s under $800 and can run the game (although, again, I highly suggest getting a desktop – even build your own, if you can. You get a lot more bang for your buck):

Depends on your budget, Evogrin. For example, the i7-3930k is really nice, but it’s over $500 (over half the cost of my current build). If you’re on any type of budget, the i5-3570k (assuming you intend to overclock) would be your best bet if you aren’t concerned about hyperthreading technology (which, if you plan to replace your processor in 2-3 years anyway, you shouldn’t be concerned with when it comes to games). If you’re going to use your computer for running multiple applications at the same time, then the FX-8350 would be your best bet; when it comes to just gaming for the next few years, though, the i5-3570k will definitely give you a nice bang for your buck.

As for a GPU – I’m running the Radeon HD 7770 (1GB). It was $114 when I bought it, and again, was a nice bang for my buck; definitely not the best to run GW2 without any FPS drops, but I have all my settings except LOD distance set to max and, outside of intensive situations, I run 50-60+ FPS. If you can spend more than I did, I’d say to go with the GTX 680 unless you have a ton of money to drop on this build.

For RAM, you’re going to probably want 8GB; you can get away with 6GB if the MB you get supports it, but 8GB is what I’ve found “comfortable” for most games on ultra/high. 16GB is being able to handle any situation; 8GB will handle 90% of them. I personally wanted to save $50 and stuck with 8GB.

For your MB, it’s really up to what CPU you get. Make sure you get one that is capable of handling overclocking (even if you don’t intend to do it right away, it may prove useful down the road) and it can support up to however much memory you want to get for your computer.

The rest of the parts can be left up to you entirely as they won’t really effect your gaming performance; the HDD will effect your load times but not much past that if anything. Be sure to also get a decent PSU – the last thing you want is your system to burn out because of the power supply, especially if you want to overclock.

Alex -

Actually, the AMD FX-8350 holds the world record for the highest stable overclock speed; with the fact that he said he hasn’t been playing GW2 much lately, I’m assuming he’s also using his computer for things other than just this game in particular. In which case, spending the extra $50 for a generally better processor across all boards is worth it, in my opinion. Nevertheless, see the following regarding my opinion for this specific thread -

Zerk -

I apologize; you’re correct. I didn’t look into the motherboard much past the AM3+ socket type for the sake of time when I posted. In this case, yes, it would be best to go with an FX-6300 since the FX-8350 isn’t compatible with the specific motherboard.

thanks for the reply sheer, didn’t know that about my motherboard, and you’re right the 8350 looks like a good choice as its the best benchmarked amd cpu. thanks again!

No problem! Just keep an eye on when you do intend to upgrade your motherboard/CPU that the sockets match so you don’t run into any problems. If you’re familiar with Newegg at all, you can find the socket information simply by looking in the “details” section of the component.

In fact, anytime you go to upgrade a part of your computer, make sure it’s compatible. It can save you a headache in the future.

Getting an AMD FX-8350 CPU would be your best bet; if you get an Intel processor, you’ll need a new motherboard. So again, if you’re on any type of budget, just get an FX-8350.

Your GPU is fine, I use the same one; FPS drops are a common issue no matter your specs, but upgrading your processor should definitely help.

Well I for one wouldnt swap out a tripple core CPU for a dual core i5, and yes I do know how good an i5 is particularly in heavy single threaded apps. In my opinion more physical cores are the best option.

Erm, just to point this out, but if that was in reference to the post talking about the i5-3570k, then it’s a quad core, not a dual core.

Guys I actually find out my problem.. kinda dumb i know.
I did NOT uninstall my nvidia drivers before updating to this card… and without an nvidia card (sold it) you cant manually remove them from programs list. So i had to get drive sweeper and manually go into the registry and specific folders to clear out all traces of the installation.

Now that im in game, i have 50 fps with medium settings in divinities reach. VERY happy right now! =D.

I see a lot of people with this problem, and maybe they could have made the same mistake i did. I read somewhere that you didnt need to erase old gpu drivers on Win 7. Ha.

Glad ya got that sorted!

You really don’t need to upgrade from an i5-3570k for games. Adding an aftermarket fan/heatsink and overclocking it is a better solution. Other CPUs with better performance per core would have an easier time with this game is what they’re saying.

The GTX Titan is a great card performance wise, and tbh i was planing on buying maybe 2 of them for my current rig. That was till Nvidia release the expect retail price.

Taking the price into account the Titan is a POS. Your paying 100% more(double) for a ‘up to’ 60% (max) performance increase over a 680. Total ripoff. In the UK it costs around £950, a good top end 4gb 680 costs around £450.
450/100 * 160 = £720. So the absolute max the Titan ‘should’ cost is £720.

Untill the Titan comes down in price i wouldnt recommend it to any1 becouse there are cheaper ways of getting the same performance.

The Titan is a GPU for the enthusiast as of now; not a GPU for a gamer who has any sort of budget. It is purely for those who will pay any price for any increase in performance.

Sheer: agree with most of what you said, but vista in its patched state is no worse or better for games then 7 or 8, infact, if your system can run it smooth and fast, its kinda stupid to pay to upgrade to 7.

I have told a number of clients this because their systems ran vista SMOOOOTH, i mean just as smooth as 7 would run, a few even had me install 7 and then where upset it was no faster…….because everybody they saw online was saying it would be….

vista was CRAP when it came out, but once it got a couple sp’s under its belt, its a kitten good OS just like 7.

To be entirely fair, I’ve never tried running Vista and Windows 7 on a PC with the same specs, so I can’t directly say whether it is actually still better or worse. What I can say is that, when I used Windows Vista about – I want to say a year ago? – it had a few compatibility issues with some games, and after all the research I did it essentially came down to “Vista stinks for games, Microsoft needs to update the OS, and you’re outa luck until then”. When I built my new computer, I used Ubuntu 12.04 until I got Windows 7 (it was either that or Windows 8; I got it free through my university). To be safe, I have always stuck with Windows 7 since then. If it’s not having its little fits of “I don’t wanna work” anymore, unless the person is building an entirely new system, then I don’t see an issue of sticking with whatever is more readily available [i.e. cheaper].

Allow me to share with you my build that I am currently running; the prices listed are those directly from Newegg at the time of me posting this except the DVD reader, which is currently discontinued (some parts were cheaper when I bought them) -

NZXT Guardian 921RB Mid-Tower: $69.99
Intel Core i5-3570k @ 3.4GHz: $229.99
G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 × 4GB) DDR3 1600MHz: $55.99
AMD Radeon HD 7770 1GB 128-bit GDDR5 PCI-e 3.0×16: $119.99
ASRock B75m-DGS SATA 6GB/s: $52.99
SeaSonic M12II 620 Bronze 620W ATX 12V: $89.99
SONY Black SATA DVD-ROM Optical Drive: $17.99
Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200RPM SATA 6GB/s: $79.99

Factor in your basic OS that costs $99.99, and that comes to a total of $816.91 (minus tax and shipping, but Newegg doesn’t make you pay shipping or taxes if you take the standard three-day delivery option). Nothing is OC’ed yet; everything is stock and I am using only what came right out of the box. I am running WoW constantly above 100FPS with all the settings maxed out, and 50 during the heaviest fight scenes. I run Rift easily over 70FPS with my settings maxed out; I haven’t gotten into the larger fights, so I can’t say how it handles there. I’ve played Skyrim (again, with all the settings maxed out) and typically keep a steady 60-80FPS. In GW2, I’m running everything on high except LOD distance and I keep two settings unchecked; I do have vertical sync enabled, so my FPS stays around 60 to match the refresh rate of my monitor. In WvW, I keep above 30FPS from what I’ve experienced thus far; I doubt it’s been the most “intense” fights, but I have gotten into a few that were quite large and took note of my FPS then.

I personally don’t prefer AMD cores for gaming – Intel wins in that respect, although I will not deny the list that Jazhara listed you is a nice setup. AMD cores are good if you’re a guy who gets into rendering software or has a lot of multi-tasking going on; eight cores will definitely help you there. If you’re just going to be the guy to have something like GW2 and TeamSpeak open, I suggest Intel. If you’re going to want Fraps, a game, TeamSpeak, a web browser, and Steam all running simultaneously, then I suggest to go with Jazhara’s suggestion of an AMD 8-core processor. If you can drop an extra $33, then get the Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo for your CPU and you can overclock the i5-3570k until the cows come home. Or until you turn it up to some crazy number like 12.9GHz and it fries like bacon. Lol

Oh! And one last thing. Cash was limited for me, so I got a good motherboard that had only one x16 slot, but it is PCI-e 3.0 (which benefits my GPU’s 3.0 speed). It also only had two slots for RAM, but it supports up to 16GB. Personally, I would never see a need to go past 16GB unless you’re an enthusiast – same with running SLI or Crossfire; one GPU is plenty if you get one high enough up the chain. While it is a micro motherboard, they did an incredible job in terms of its layout (unlike a number of other micro motherboards), so it was well worth it for me.

Edit: One last thing! Since I’m also at a university that’s a part of Microsoft DreamSpark, I got my OS for free. So my build was an extremely good bang for my buck in this case.

I think my question is relevant to this topic.

I have Windows Vista:
Processor: AMD Phenom™ 9850 Quad-Core Processor
Memory: 6142MB RAM
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT

What should I upgrade to get the most out of games?

CPU and GPU, definitely. 6GB RAM should be alright, but if you can spare the cash, it’d never hurt to get a bit more. Windows Vista is notorious for not cooperating with games, so if you can get something like Windows 7, get it.

As said before me, the short answer is you pretty much want to upgrade everything.

I may just be not seeing it, but are you using an aftermarket fan/heatsink? If you’re overclocking an i5-3570k to 4.0GHz, I strongly suggest you get an aftermarket heatsink and fan. I’m currently running an i5-3570k @ 3.4GHz with the stock fan/heatsink and it gets up to 60C when I play GW2 on nearly max settings; the last thing you would want is your processor to get too hot to the point it starts to cause physical damage. If the HDD you chose is 7200RPM and SATA 6GB/s (just looking at it, I would assume it is, but I’ve been surprised before), I would say to not even bother with an SSD unless money is no object.

First off 60c is a joke if you think that is pushing it…lol Dude the chips can run hard for years a 90c straight….they aren’t cheap crap like back in the day if you went over 80c your kitten died in less than a year….non sense. I have 2 3570k’s and 1 3770k the one 3570k is sitting solid at 5.1ghz 1.48v week after release and it reaches maybe 80-85c while gaming bf3 or gw2 etc. Point is don’t tell people that they need to spend money for no reason 4.0ghz is nothing these days….and a stock sink will easily hold you to 4.1-4.2. Unless you want the chip to last 10 years…

Money is a factor to me; I’m in college, so I don’t exactly have a good source of income. If my computer parts go kaput – especially my processor, I’m out of a computer for the next year or so (unless I have a valid warranty, which is becomes void when you overclock your processor. Thus the reason I want to get an aftermarket fan and heatsink before pushing it further). I’m all for stress testing systems and whatnot when I know I can fix whatever breaks or get it replaced, but with my current computer, I don’t. Not to say I don’t trust your experience, but I’d rather be safe than sorry.

On a side note, for my processor, the Tcase is 67.4C: http://ark.intel.com/products/65520/Intel-Core-i5-3570K-Processor-6M-Cache-up-to-3_80-GHz

Alright. I just checked a few sites, and long story short, the i5-3570k gets better performance, but that’s about it; when it comes to things like multitasking or hyper threading technology, i7-3930k wins by a long run (i5-3570k doesn’t even have hyper threading). If you’re a bit savvy with overclocking and/or not afraid to tinker with it, you could try overclocking your core a bit to see if you can get better FPS in-game.

Also, I would personally geek out a bit if I managed to get my hands on a Titan GPU.

You guys make it so hard

My dilema is the following:

• Going Intel and staying intel for atleast 4 years since I will have to replace the whole mobo AND cpu. The reason is to guarantee a good performance for GW2.

• Go AMD since it really can be said that it is more future proof as I only have to change to steamroller/excavator cpu as it seems that both will be compatible with am+. Not only that but certainly games will start using multithreading in the next year or so. (PS4)
BUT, by this route my only solution is to pray that GW2 optimization improves; especially for amd…

If it makes you feel any better, I intend to stay with the i5-3570k for the next couple of years for gaming; I do intend to replace my motherboard simply because the current one I have is a micro board and I bought it cheap ($55), but it had a PCI-e 3.0 slot which was perfect for my Radeon HD 7770 GPU. I do intend to add some more to it in the future, though – when I have the cash.

Straightforward answer: I intend to stick with the i5-3570k for the next few years, and I would encourage others to do so as well if they’re building a computer purely for gaming.

Terrible settings for performance/visualquality ratio. U can just set up everything to ultra including LOD it does not hit hard on the CPU, the turn reflections and shadows down, u will get easy 20+ FPS without any noticeable visual quality hit.

I beg to differ; LOD distance is essentially the distance at which characters render – rendering is typically CPU-intensive.

However, as Rampage said, turning down reflections and shadows may prove to boost your FPS.

Also, I just looked into it – the i5-3570k is 3rd gen and an Ivy Bridge; the i7-3930k is 2nd gen and a Sandy Bridge. So it’s possible that I am getting more performance particularly for GW2 out of my CPU than you are; are you using the stock speed of 3.2GHz or have you overclocked it? I would think it’s only your processor that would be bottlenecking your performance, since your RAM and GPU is better than mine (I have 8GB 1600MHz RAM and a Radeon HD 7770).

Yea, you need a heatsink and a fan for your CPU or else you’ll pretty much be able to do nothing but cook breakfast on the processor before it’s dead. It shows that it included one, but it included the stock heatsink; not seeing where it mentioned a fan, so that’s why I asked. But you’ll always want an aftermarket heatsink/fan for overclocking (to be safe). Be sure to look for some temperature monitoring software so you can make sure nothing is getting too hot, too. I personally use Speedfan for keeping a general overview on my temperatures and manually controlling my GPU speeds – especially for when I’m gaming.

Out of curiosity, have you had any previous experience with building computers? I ask this because it’d be better for you to buy the parts and build the computer – I know I bought my parts around the holidays and saved about $400.

your buddy is either full of something brown and smelly, a fanboi or you missunderstood him……

I have been at this computer building game for over 20 years now, neither intel or amd have chips that in themselves dont last, there have been some pretty bad boards, and some bad chipsets(never seen a bad amd chipset, but intel had a few that where horrible, and SiS intel chipsets where suq….dont get me started on via….)

and unspec, no, to me intel isnt as fun or challanging to push, all you really can do with intel is change the multi and volts…with amd you can change the buss without breaking anything, you can tweak the HT, and teh cpu/nb clocks….
FSB – 280
DRAM – 1866Mhz
CPU/NB – 2520Mhz
HTT – 2520Mhz
thats my current settings……quite fun really

To be honest, my thought on it was that it was purely the luck of the components he had that worked well or didn’t work well, but I figured it wouldn’t hurt to post about it anyway. I think that, as long as both cores are subject to the same load respective to what they’re capable of at stock, they’ll last about the same time. He’s not really a fan of AMD/Intel in particular, but he does like Asus and will buy Asus whenever he can.

The very brief and condensed stance I have on AMD/Intel is when it comes to my digital artwork and programming, I do appreciate AMD processors purely because they kick Intel cores to the curb with rendering and just general multi-tasking; I wouldn’t think twice about even considering Intel cores for a machine that would be specified towards such tasks. However, when it comes to gaming, I believe that – as of today; right now – Intel takes home the trophy. I don’t think there’s a “bad” choice unless you choose a system that isn’t tailored to how you intend to use it.

You should definitely be getting more. I get around 60 FPS with nearly all max settings in 1920×1080, and my specs aren’t as good as yours.

As Unspec said, unless it’s a k series, it pretty much is a waste to overclock the Intel processor.

One thing my friend has told me about – he’s used two AMD cores before switching to Intel; he’s used one and currently uses two Intel cores in his computers (he has two computers) – is that AMD CPU’s life tends to be much less than that of Intel’s.

Well, if my opinion matters at all at this point, I’d like to provide some input. My current system is:

CPU: Intel i5-3570k @ 3.4GHz (so it’s not overclocked; I am using the stock fan.)
GPU: AMD Radeon HD 7770
RAM: 8GB DDR3 1600MHz
PSU: 620W SeaSonic M12II
MB: ASRock B75m-DGS
HDD: 1TB Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM 6GB/s

While I can’t really say what my FPS drops to during larger battles – because I haven’t really checked – I can say that my FPS stays well above 50-60 most of the time when I’m playing, and I keep all my settings on high. So I’m quite satisfied with my build; I can try getting into larger battles later tonight after I finish my project for computer science and checking my FPS.

On a side note, I don’t think Intel cores are just for “Intel Fanboys”. I think it’s safe to say that AMD and Intel each have their pros and cons compared to each other. For example, an i5-3570k will run better than an AMD FX-8350 on Skyrim, Diablo 3, and WoW. On the other hand, an AMD FX-8350 will run better than an i5-3570k for things like rendering, 3D modeling, and photoshop. In terms of just gaming, Intel is typically the better processor, but is also a bit more expensive (AMD FX-8350 is $30 cheaper on Newegg right now). So while I don’t agree with Jazhara’s opinion that AMD is the “way to go”, I don’t think that AMD is all that bad either. It really depends on what you specifically intend to use your processor for and how software applications adapt to the current technology offered by today’s hardware, which leads to the typical “Do your homework” reminder when it comes to these sorts of things.

Pardon some parts of my post if they seem off-topic; I meant for it all to be relevant and hopefully useful information. If you’re looking for a processor specifically for GW2, I would say to go with an i5-3570k. But again, there are numerous factors regarding the i5-3570k and the AMD FX-8350 that you should look into and read up on before deciding.

Edit: Sorry for the wall of text! I’m a bit of a computer enthusiast.

I personally don’t see anything wrong with humans. They could use some fine tuning if I actually sit down and think about how things would need to be re-scaled, but there’s nothing about them that makes me go “That’s completely off”. Comparing the proportions in the picture to how my body is proportioned, they aren’t off by much. At least, not enough for me to notice humans look disproportionate.

I’m most certainly excited about the new content; regarding what people have been saying before me – every game has its issues and bugs, that’s just expected. So to be upset over the ones that are in GW2 would seem rather… Pointless. I may just be optimistic and trying to look at the bright side of things, but I really enjoy this game. It’s nice to sit down and play at the end of my day when I’m done working on whatever college decides to throw at me.
