as I stated previously in this thread, I can’t ignore it if it has AP. I need all I can get and can’t afford to skip it in this regard. so if it’s going to have associated achievments then I have to do them. once pvp/wvw/dungeon/storyline/jump puzzles/fashion collections/other misc collections are done the AP scene gets scarce, and I still need 16k to get my full hellfire set which is something I’ve been working toward for years now. so yes I could “just ignore it” IF it was a minigame and had few or preferably No achievements associated with it. but this is not the case and so in my modern mmo I will be forced to play an 8 bit junkpile. hopefully this clears this up.

Which I get. But, you’re still choosing to do something you don’t want to do—you don’t have to get those APs, as I’m sure there’ll be other events/festivals/content updates that have their fair share—and telling a fairly large amount of people who do, in fact, like the S.A.B. that they can’t have what they want because you don’t like it.

I think that this is, unfortunately, gonna have to be a case of “bite the bullet” if you’re that adamant about getting the APs related to it. As for games evolving? Yeah, sure, evolution is good—but so is a nice bit of nostalgia here and there.

It is optional right? If not I want a full refund since it wouldn’t be the game I bought anymore. I bought this game three years ago knowing one could mouse turn and I didn’t buy Tera because it didn’t have mouse movement.

It is optional, yes.

Dungeons will stop drop things as well as they will still have some gold, they will just have much less gold.

Dungeons will stop dropping things as well as having a reduced gold output? Is that a typo or are they really being nerfed that hard?

Going by the rest of that statement and the following add-on, I’d say that it’s just a typo.

I get it that we all want different things but it’s surprising that the people who wants this glowing wrist change isnt bothered with the herald ground icon, which stands out by far more :p

The ground icon can be shut off with not using a facet. there is an option. thats the huge difference

It’s not really an option though since the point with glint is to run with one or two facets active, like swiftness for roaming or fury/prot/might as support. If you have glint you’ll spend the majority of your time with the ground icon graphic.

While true, what some people in this thread are requesting is OoC changes to the hand glow. When you’re standing in Lion’s Arch, for example, you can turn off Glint’s Facets— but you can’t with the hands. And that’s the main issue that was brought up by the OP.

Shevak, YES that is exactly what I am saying. looking for raid. click icon at top of screen. click the raid you want to join. 10 person raiding party assembles from the que. I am glad to hear that you don’t think it would be a bad addition. I am unsure how it played out in wow as I only played 8 hrs of the beginning of wow on a friends comp one time and didn’t enjoy it. haven’t played sense and it was so many years ago I barely remember it now. I am also encouraged by the comment one of the dev team members made saying “in HoT players will have to dust off that toughness gear and take some serious hits” playing a war tank from launch as my main having a place to belong in a raid system would be a welcome thing, I can see hesitancy in the idea of the raid system taking over all future content updates. unfortunately this may happen as anet said the raid system will play a heavy part in future updates as a “method of delivering new content in future updates”

LFR basically works like how you’d think: it pairs up random people to do a designated raid. The difference is that it’s “easier” to compensate for the lack of proper coordination—no voice programs, playing with strangers, all that—and it rewards “LFR Gear,” which is generally weaker than standard loot you’d get from the actual experience.

Which, you know, is fine: people get to see the content and do the fights, see the related stories, and they may get some nice skins or something outta it. The only stipulation I’d add then is that you can’t get the Legendary Armor precursors—that’d let A.net keep the whole “raids are for the hardcore who want those special prizes” thing.

I mean, I think A.net is generally opposed to the idea, but I could see them reneging on it once they’ve got more raids out. Which is fine. I’d support that.

an unkickable group leader would be one way to go on fighting the zerk meta. it is indeed an idea I had not thought about. thank you for this. I am still unsure if when I say “instanced” I am using that term correctly. in dc universe when you want to join a multiplayer raid you que your character up and a team is put together for you. the advantage I see in this is that all builds are allowed an equal opportunity to participate in the game. I think that raids would benefit from this system in gw2. the coding for this system is already in the game. it is how pvp teams are assembled. using this system for both raids/dungeons could see some advantages. I had not thought of the idea of an unkickable leader. that would at least prevent the group hijacking that you expressed frustration in. good idea.

If that’s what you mean, then you’re effectively asking for LFR—Looking For Raid.

Well, the issue with wanting to drop the social aspect of the conversation, Warlock, is that it’s pertinent to one of your desired pieces of discussion: instanced raids.

Granted, raids are already “instanced”—what I’m guessing you’re asking for is flex raids akin to World of Warcraft? Go in with however many people you want (below the normal max) and have it scaled to accommodate?

See, I think that goes directly against what they want out of raids: to offer challenging endgame content for larger groups, to give the people who’re veterans of “old school” progression a place in the game. Could they add in something similar to flex? Sure, but I don’t see that happening until they’ve got a few raids under their belt. You’d also have to deal with restricted rewards (as a guess), but if that’s something you’re willing to deal with, then alright.

On Revenant? Bar none, my favorite class in the game. I love all the themes it has going for it, and I adore the legend swapping mechanic—I don’t mind that utilities are bound to them, making it “limited.” To me? It means I have to adapt better; I have to step up my game to compete and think outside the box when the going gets tough. It’s the old classic of “easy to play, hard to master.” Not to mention it cuts out the middle man of figuring out what abilities I want. Want some condition? Mallyx, go. Wanna be a walking boon fountain? Hey there, Glint.

I wouldn’t consider this bickering. It’s more people trying to explain that your way of doing this is in the minority, and that there’s no way A.net can appease everybody. I mean, Just a flesh wound has a good idea—hire people out who’re willing to help take your guild hall with you. Hell, I’ll even do it with you; conditions are entirely on you, and I don’t care how you play.

But as to why A.net offers it? Well. They figured that somebody who’s getting this for the guild decorations is already in a large enough guild/has a plan for taking the guild hall. It’s generally impossible for them to plan for every single contingency without risking intended value/purpose of said content.

And A.net is affording you the ability to play said content. But it doesn’t matter how much you’ve played or paid—everybody has to make a conscious choice on what’s attainable and what’s not. Would I like to try some of the PvP content at a higher tier/rank? Sure, but I also realize that I’m just not that great in a PvP environment.

So despite what I paid and how long I’ve played, I’m not gonna “get” to play that content because of a choice. The content of HoT is still very much open to you, but you’re making a choice to -not- adapt and flex. Which is fine. But it also means A.net isn’t necessarily responsible for it.

For you and your wife, you’ve the following: Open World content with World Bosses, HoT Personal Story, Adventures, and Guild Halls (if you can stomach getting the people).

No, you didn’t. I wouldn’t call them insulting or derogatory, however.

As for the “toxic” discussion: I’m afraid I’m not seeing it. People have offered their opinions, as you have, and tried to give you alternatives/answers in an attempt to help you find a solution to your problem. For example: when you were going for your Dungeon achievement, you could’ve started the group yourself with an advertisement of “non-meta run, just for fun.”

As for the “social misfit” bit you seem caught up on? I normally always saw it as a term for people who willingly decide to stand away from the “majority” in a social atmosphere—it’s not a bad thing, really. It just means you don’t like the majority.

I wouldn’t expect them to put it out yet, even if it’s just to level in the old zones.

If it’s coming specifically from the pillars, it does seem like a reactionary function in regards to the Legendary. It could be another altar similar to the Glaust one, and it may play a central role in the Personal Story—the purification of Sylvari who’ve been corrupted? Maybe, at some point, Glint’s egg due to possible corruption?

If that’s the case in either respect (or more), I’m very interested in the implications. If there’s two, how many actually exist? Maybe Glint had a variety of precautionary plans for the return of the Elder Dragons, and used the Forgotten to enact them.

Alternatively, I recall reading that the Forgotten are from the Mists, too, and are far older than even the earliest civilizations. Maybe they were a vanguard sent by the Gods to “scout” the world? Maybe these altars exist as contingent plans for what the Six foresaw.

On one hand, yeah, I agree with Amraston: it wouldn’t make sense for Ronan or Ventari to have gone outta their way to purify the seeds in the Maguuma Jungle. But, in contrast to that, who said it had to have been either of them?

We’ve no prior knowledge of Mordremoth’s activities following the last rise of the Elder Dragons; we’ve no idea if anything like the Sylvari/Mordrem Guard have existed before in this capacity, in these conditions. It’s very feasible to think that, following the transition to dormancy, something stole the seeds necessary for what is essentially a minion factory, purified them, and hid them away to reduce the power Mordremoth would have upon awakening.

Did the barrier look like anything special? Maybe hints of Divine Fire/Forgotten influence? Or was it more just general “barrier”?

The posters here are not debating design choices but personal preference. My argument is about the design choice.

Besides: Just because in this instance there are other people posting in favour for the effect (or against it) doesn’t mean either side is representive. In the end, it’s ANet’s call and all we can do is bring up valid points for either side. No gain in trying to confince anyone that your view is the only correct one just because there are others agreeing with you. That’s not how this works, sorry.

Design choice? What? That’s like people saying that Revenant’s shouldn’t have weaponswap because of design choice of making it equal across all armor types. That makes no sense.

Also, major rules. That’s how it always works, sorry.

So then why not support a compromise?

I’m honestly not in favor of the idea that “majority rules” in this concept when there’s a clear answer that’d satisfy both parties—a toggle—and that’s coming from somebody who does, in fact, like the glow. There are good reasons from both sides for their preference; this alone makes it a valid “let’s compromise” point.

Stubbornly sticking to the idea that it has to be one or the other with this simple cosmetic is generally what’s going to keep it stuck to one or the other, and I’d rather push a suggestion that helps out both parties. Now, if A.NET -can’t- do it for one reason or another? That’s a different matter.

I just wonder why the “no hand glow” people don’t ask for an option to toggle it off like the death knight eyes and voices in WoW? that option harms NOBODY, and yet they jump straight for “NO I DON’T LIKE IT! REMOVE IT!”

I personally hope that they keep the PERMANTENT hand glow, in combat and out. if you don’t like it, ask for a toggle, don’t ruin it for other people

A lot of us did, me included. Was never touched upon.

Honestly, I love the hand glow, but it’s a bit much for when you’re just standing around and waiting for something to happen. I’d love a toggle to make it appear only in combat/with weapons drawn, but it’s up to A.net to decide on that.

I noticed this as well for the BWE2.

On a somewhat related note. Is it possible to not have our legend auras present when out of combat? The way it is now it seems the auras are always present (Which is why Ventari stood out XD).

Ugh, I’d rather seem them on all the time. Let’s you quickly know ahead of time what Legend the Revy is in if facing him before combat. Also, the Legend is supposed to be manifested with you at all times, not just out of combat. The arm glows sort of shows that. Plus, it’s a really cool effect.

I Voting for not seeing it out of Combat too! Or at all in PvE Content and make the Glow only for WvW/PvP were it matters?

pretty pretty please from an Roleplayer?

I’d never expect this from a roleplayer…only reasonable complaint is about the screenshots since the effect is “in the way”.
No other reasons for me.

Well Roleplayers are annoyed by any unwanted Glow Effects (namly Elementalist Hand Glow, Guardian perma Aegis shield and now the Revenant Hand Glow) and not only for screenshots

I don’t understand why though. Don’t those effects define the class that your roleplaying with? Or, are you roleplaying as something besides what’s in the GW universe class? IE, you’re roleplaying as Wolverine from the Marvel Universe.

Well, speaking as a roleplayer, I love the effect—it’s a clear, blatant sign of what you are—but at the same time, I don’t think my character would be consistently channeling a legend. They’re not always fighting, after all, and they may not want the random chatter that comes with using an imprint when they’re simply trying to enjoy a drink.

Maybe it could be offered as a choice, though? Kinda like Death Knight voices in World of Warcraft. As a base, they’re off in non-combat situations, but on during a fight. The toggle could simply make it so that the aura’s always on. Or you could flip that around, either-or.

And to add to my growing list of edits: why would Lion’s Arch—a city that’s open to anybody—be restricted at all ‘cause of HoT? If anything, it’ll just be a patch that suddenly changes how the city looks for everybody. No event, just a notifier saying “Hey, we updated it!”

Well, herein lies the problem – because if Colin actually meant what he said, it will just not happen. Because LA is in core content, and that gets “frozen in time”.

It’s not a problem just for people that do not buy an expansion. I am (at the moment) planning to buy it, for example, but i’d rather HoT expanded the game, and not just moved it to new areas, leaving old ones abandoned. That would be a bad move, and would run contrary to the original idea that assumed that players will continue to revisit low level areas and that the whole game will be the endgame. Not just HoT.

I don’t want to be limited to just the new 3-4 zones until the next expansion hits. I don’t want to see the rest of the world becoming dead. And it has nothing to do with me “wanting something for free” (since, as i have already said, i will be buying HoT).

Thing is, didn’t they confirm that LA would eventually get an update?

As for old areas being dead: I think that’s why the second part of the Mastery System—specifically the part about Precursors—is called “Pact Tyria” (at the moment). It’s supposed to encourage you to go back and replay the old content. The other part of this? HoT is supposedly their “framework” expansion for what’s to come. Which could mean any number of things.

So, yeah. Right now? I can see why people might be worried— but on the same token, I can also see there’s points where people might be overreacting. The expansion is, by and large, focused on what the Living Story has been alluding and building up to—the Maguuma Jungle. So it makes sense that we’ll be spending a bit of time there.

Once we’re -done- with Mordremoth? I imagine we’ll then spend more time along the borders of wherever the next threat is with a blend of LS seasons 1 and 2 styled content.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Shevek.2691

For the duration of the expansion? Sure, I expect all content releases—including anything having to do with the Living Story—will involve Maguuma. They have to recoup development costs somehow, and pushing people into playing (and possibly buying) the needed content requirements does this.

When they actually start working towards a -new- expansion with a new foe? Then I imagine the Living Story will switch from Maguuma to wherever is closest. Meaning people who didn’t buy HoT (for whatever reason) will probably get to experience that again.

As for leaving “old Tyria” in the dust: well, we kinda do that already. Barring, say, Tequatl or Triple Trouble? Most of the content is either instanced or focused on the new areas they’ve introduced. There’ll always be people doing said content, though, to make their legendaries or level an alt, especially with the introduction of Precursors as a Mastery gain.

This isn’t the definite death of the Living World forever, just the suspension of it until HoT is done—it’s best to -not- read into everything a developer says as “Word of God.” They’re fallible, after all, and they’ve shown they don’t always come off as clear as they think.

Thieves have a very special sort of magic, and it involves a dagger in the back of the neck. We like to call it “backstabbing” but I’ve been assured by the Displaced Assassins Guild of Cantha that is too derogatory a word for it, and I need to find another name for it….

Cool story, but it absolutely does nothing to answer the question.

http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/An_Empire_Divided

That has reference to shadow stepping; essentially, the Shadow Arts were a branch of Denial developed by assassins in Cantha that more than likely spread to the other races/non-Canthans through Canthan refugees. Though you could also possibly argue that the asura developed it on their own via experimentation.

You can see some of the similarities it shares with mesmerism—stealth and instant teleportation being the two big ones.

Honestly, I never even played the original dungeons for stat-based gear—I did it because I liked the looks of the armor. I could get better optimization just by buying a set off the TP and slotting in some runes.

In general? People are freaking out over nothing; you’re simply getting a reward (that’s barely better than what we currently have) for playing more difficult content. I wouldn’t be surprised at all if Ascended gear is just as easy to get as exotics, given enough time; we’ll have people rolling in them and no one will care about the so-called “gear grind” anymore.

Which is what’s happening now, at this very moment, by the way.

Mounts [Merged]

Shevek.2691

Mounts are great. I don’t understand why few players dislike mounts. Mounts are just like cosmetic gears in guild wars 2. It’s just like collectables and be proud to own a rare “mount”. We farm and make efforts for better looking stuffs.

All I could think of is that those few anti-mount players are afraid of competiting for “better/exclusive” mounts. They don’t like the idea of other players being more “special” than them. Seriously, if you’re feeling that way, why play a mmo?

They already throw “gear stat progressions” out of the window especially for the minority of you who’re fearful of competition. That’s enough. If everything is equal, players won’t feel special among each other. There won’t be anything to play for because everyone wants to be equal with people who make efforts. Cosmetic gears doesn’t make a good end-game. There should be more. Like mounts and housings. Something that can grow/progress, compete, compare and feel special about it. The game must appeal to both casual and very active players. Players who give more time spend in-game must be given some rewards.

Housing is coming—and will be outta the way. Mounts? Generally aren’t. They clog up streets, hog resources (which is something GW2 already suffers from with loading times for player models), and are often abused to the point of irritation by players “looking for a laugh”.

To me, having gear comparisons for your achievements in the game is enough—that takes time. That shows your dedication. That shows you’re invested.

Just as having a mount would.

Human magic- the next evolution

in Lore

Posted by: Shevek.2691

Shevek.2691

Humans I think are often portrayed, at least in this game, as the Wild Card race. It seems if we put effort towards it, we can become a force to be seriously reckoned with. This doesn’t just go for Magic Mind you, because it should be remembered that even Palawo Joko when he was on the brink of conquoring all of Elona for the first time was laid low by a mere mortal soldier named Turai Ossa. When pushed into Corners, humans seem capable of pulling off some of the most terrifying feats. This is seen with the Vizier Kilbron who upon seeing the Charr horde at the doors to Orr took it upon himself to read the forbidden scrolls to try and stop the assault.

So while I agree that human efforts seem to be on the surface underplayed, I think the fact that at the time of the story the Humans are fighting multiple wars on different fronts. From the Risen among other Dragonspawn (destroyers are afterall appearing in Human territory), to Centaurs, to having up until now also been holding back the Charr from taking Ebonhawke.

Also I’m not entirely sure if Magdaer and Sohothin are human crafted weapons. They are relics of the Ascalon Kingdom to be sure, but truth be to told they could have been found similarly to how Rytlock somehow managed to stumble upon Sohothin. I don’t think any lore has been released concerning the origins of those Fiery Dragon Swords.

The swords were were crafted in Orr before the Exodus, and given to the Ascalonian royalty as a symbol of good faith and continued peace. The fact that a certain myth exists—that if a descendant of King Doric returns to Ascalon with either blade, the ghosts will be put to rest—might mean they’re as close to god-like/blessed as you can get.

As for humanity, there’s a lot of theories on how powerful they can truly become. My personal theory? The current pantheon started off as mortals, too, and usurped their positions from former gods from a distant world that’s now lost between the pathways of the Mists.

I mean, if Kormir could do it… and the past does have a way of repeating itself.

Trahearne - initial impressions

in Personal Story

I didn’t like Trahearne at all during my initial play of the game, for essentially all the reasons stated—but then I made a sylvari. That shed some more light on him; in the end, he’s a pretty tragic character who eventually -gets- a happy ending of sorts.

The problem is the execution of that.

As people have said, we don’t get to see why he has all three orders indebted to him. We don’t get to know he has a debt from a watery assassin that’s just as equally mysterious. We’re missing out on the twenty-five years of history that shaped this character, made him into who he is today, and very little is ever actually explained.

Playing as a sylvari made me realize that, even among his own people, he’s basically an outcast. He was the only one of the Firstborn “blessed” with a dream they all thought impossible. He was the only one who’s dream would lead him to a dead land with rotting corpses and ruined texts for friends (besides Caithe, but she never stayed there long-term).

And that plays up a -very- tragic character.

But as covered, we don’t get to see his real rise to glory beyond suddenly becoming leader of the Pact. We don’t get to see how he became this charismatic marshal that everybody has respect for. If they could flesh this out in a future expansion against one of the other Elder Dragons? I think it’d do wonders.

… And furthermore, get his VA to put a little more passion into the role. I know he’s capable of it; it’s apparently the same guy who does Fenris from DA2.

Bump for support. I mean, it’s obvious we’ll be hitting Cantha up at some point—make it available then, along with entirely new fish dishes for cooking.

I’m gonna sound off and agree that this would be a good idea. I mean, with the holidays alone—and I will be buying all of them, because I’m a holiday who— lover—that’ll be a lot of bank/inventory space being taken up. I’ve already delegated one of my alts to holding everything, which is less than optimal.

i love when people bring up WoW like it’s the only MMO out there with mounts. every freaking MMO on the planet has mounts. why? because people love them and they generate huge amounts on money.

it isn’t about “waving them around in people’s faces”. if you think that then we might as well remove legendaries and cultural armors too.

as for the lore, you seem to be forgetting that they CREATE the lore. they can do whatever they want with it. there’s no such thing as mounts not fitting with the lore. bad argument.

if you hate the idea of mounts because you want to walk around for some reason then don’t buy a mount. you don’t have to use them but i don’t see why’d you deny them to everyone else simply because you like walking.

WoW is the current juggernaut—people will use it as the epitome example. And from what I know, the first Guild Wars doesn’t have mounts—and how would they generate large amounts of money? If they put it on the gem store? It’d automatically become a “buy your way to power” situation. If they allow it to be put on the TP? It’ll immediately be set to a ridiculous price that’ll force people to grind even more than they have to, or they’ll just buy gold with gems—thus equaling the first argument again.

Furthermore, people have indeed expanded on why they don’t want mounts. And it goes beyond “not wanting to have one” and “like walking”.

As of now, A.Net has made their MMO to not compensate for mounts. Adding them now would be both a PR and technical nightmare.

U can not be serious on this one. GW2 is all about fluffyness, hunting costumes, hunting cosmetic items, hunting for pets even (we dont have pets, are u sure abt that? think again please).

U have concerns about the devs work, really? U do care that much? I am sure they will get paid very well for their work u dont need to worry about that.

Saying it breaks immersion is not a good reason; we have asura gates and instant teleportation at our fingertips.
Saying it’d bring people back into lower level zones is not a good reason; the zones are already small. If you’re not there now, how would a mount -feasibly- change that?
Saying it’d be another grind for glory is not a good reason; we already have those in weapons and armor—we don’t need mounts cluttering up an already taxed system in the cities. Plenty of people already have it hard enough with the load times in LA without additional memory being devoted to extra animations/particle effects/etc.

Because saying why u are AGAINST the mounts is too mainstream i see.

I had thought my tone made it evident: I don’t like mounts. In WoW, they were an annoying measurement of your- lower extremity. At least with weapons and armor, they aren’t clogging up my screen. In SWTOR, they were obnoxious in sound.

As of right now? I don’t see a point for mounts. The zones are small and instanced, A.Net still needs to polish and optimize their engine to even handle multiple -players- on the screen at once, and we have enough ways to measure how well you perform at the game.

when you read claims people leave a game for the sole reason of not having mounts, you really wonder what the world is coming too… unless theses games are equestrian simulations.

I know right! Or a jumping simulator! (u see wut i did der?!)

Mounts are simply cool, and all those smartypants who are against the mounts, cant provide one logical reason why.

I’m pretty sure “the developers have said no” is a pretty logical reason why we’re not getting mounts. On top of that, not one person has given a good/logical reason for why mounts would be useful—they’ve all got a counter that shoots it down fairly well.

Getting the Mad King’s head would’ve been redundant—you can already buy that off the gem store with the Mad King’s outfit.

As for rewards, it’s yet -another- chance to get the rare Halloween skins; those drop from the chest, as well as other exotics. I mean, beyond those, what else could they possibly give that’s not already there in some fashion?

Yeah, but I thought we were getting a major content update. The game’s been out a while now, right? Turns out, the Halloween event IS the content update? Then nothing but more little tweaks and nerfs until Christmas?

Except they’re unveiling something in November, too.

As for the Halloween content being content, well. Look at it all—that’s a lot for just a holiday. And for a new game that’s pretty much still outta the gate.

I wasn’t too impressed by it, as far as I can tell the one-time event that we all needed to log in for was a 20 second cut-scene of the mad king breaking a fountain. That given, I completed the dungeon twice with guildies and the Mad King glitched back up to the second floor after we almost killed him on the third both times. Would’ve preferred the event from GW1 over this, never was really a fan of dungeons.

Well, there’s still one more stage left—you’ll probably get your wish in addition to everything else.

Now think about what it’ll be like next year. A.Net continues to build on the holiday, year after year, adding more and more. And we still have multiple holidays to go through—if they’re all of this quality, at least, I’ll be impressed.
