I think a purely graphical indicator would be a bad move. look at the difference between having health % on monsters hp bars vs not. it’s the kind of qol that should not have taken 4 years and raids to implement. we should always have info that important available through 1st party software.
I feel extremely strongly about this and will not be convinced otherwise.
extremely important gameplay revolves around heat: explode with the 150% trait and you probably die. not maintaining it loses tons of damage. the visual difference between 100% and 105-120% will be next to nothing, but one means go to photon immediately and the other means go to it in like 10 sec, and 10 sec is a lot.
I definitely haven’t made up my mind on this, so what kind of an indicator do you think would be ideal? A simple heat bar would be basic, or maybe they can upgrade the actual character model visual, maybe even add a new color/effect for being just 10 points from exploding.

I’m really excited for the hobosmith. FINALLY a great DPS spec for engi, and the theme looks pretty cool as well. Plus the risk from the heat mechanic will keep it from getting boring. (bomb kit, I’m looking at you)

I’m super overjoyed at the new hobosmith specialization. I feel like engi has always meant to be the high skill high reward profession, and the added self-risk from the heat mechanic will enable them to push the hobosmith’s power DPS above that of other classes who don’t have any risk.
From the footage, it appears that your hobosmith changes color in photon forge mode based on your heat level. Presumably,
blue = 0-50%,
yellow = 50-100%
red = 100-150% (with the enhanced capacity storage unit trait).
As is, when in the top 50% of heat tolerance, where you will be doing most damage, there wont be a guaranteed indicator of when you will explode. In order to absolutely min-max hobosmith DPS, we will be required to try to count out our heat points from 100-150%. Something that will require a lot of practice and allow experienced hobosmiths to reach a greater effectiveness than others.
Or alternatively, they could be adding a heat bar that will show us exactly when we need to end photon forge. But that would take away a lot of the risk, so they wouldn’t be able to justify as much of a DPS reward. Maybe a heat bar would synergize too well with AED.
What do ya’ll think? Do you like the current heat visualization or do you think Anet should add a heat bar to the hobosmith? Do you think my interperetation of the photon forge heat colors are correct? Discuss.

It would be cool if they were to add the heat bonus from the hobosmith sword (25% crit for every 50 heat) to the rifle.

There was a big dev post listing a bunch of nice changes that were coming into fractals, it seemed to be implied that those changes were to come in this update. I saw absolutely nothing in the patchnotes that had anything to do with fractals. I suppose it is possible that they forgot to add the changes to the patchnotes, or perhaps the changes haven’t come yet?
Does anyone know whether the fractal changes have been implemented yet?

I think this issue is important enough to justify a patch immediately as soon as the fix is ready. I hope Anet doesnt wait until the raid patch.

got map completion on 2 maps on my engineer the first completion being on day 5 after release, did not get my fix-r-upper wrench that I so desire. 13/14 cannot progress until they fix this bug.

I still think its kinda silly that they cant just go in the order: gauntlets → pauldrons → helmet → boots → legs → chest then repeat. by them time very many people would reach that many achievement points there will probably be another more prestigious armor skin.

I think you should take a look at/consider Sinister gear. engineer has so much access to condition damage that replacing ferocity with condition damage would result higher dps over time. You can get a full set of ascended sinister trinkets from getting the second half of LS2 achievements.
you will be getting 1-2k condi dps without even trying, 3k or more if trying, while still dealing high non-condi damage.

I noticed that the hammer engi from the trailer did not have a hobo-sack. maybe the new spec for engi trades kits for something else.

They should give mortar lich-form DPS to make it competitive. it will still be balanced because of min range and its easy to dodge.

I had this same question. I did log in during wintersday and have since deleted the letter. after learning of the awesome reward of doing it, I decided to try and to it but I havent been able to find grawnk. is this a bug? maybe I was looking in the wrong spots, is there a map of grawnk’s locations?

The only thing about flame blast that needs to be fixed is the bug that causes it to miss. Back during the betas, flame blast did not have the problem, and was my very favorite engineer skill. It’s usage is similar to the elementalist’s burning speed, where you use a knockback such as air blast or overcharged shot, which puts them at a distance where the flame ball will hit them twice, dealing a good burst of damage. I designed whole builds around it, ant it is great as is. They just need to fix the bug that causes it to fail 50% of the time. Making it ground targeted would be horrible, it would become another grenade skill except worse and shorter range.
Flame blast is supposed to be somewhat difficult to use, but is
rewarding when used correctly. I believe that is intentional.

Awesome day of WvW for Kaineng. We finally took green keep, which was the one place I needed for map completion. The commanders did a great job, and gave us the winning strategy. Perhaps we can win this week.
