I… found Glint’s spawn ugly. In that “We decided that the child of an ancient dragon should be SOOO CUTESY AWW” kind of way. Like, they tried to make it cutesy to pander to easily awed people but wound up making this weird abomination instead, like some Female Humans with the grossly babylike faces.

I also felt the story – as it has been – was pretty weak and the Lazarus twist was poorly done. Guess that’s a minority opinion, though. :B

So you’d rather they pandered to you?

About Ember Bay.

in Living World

Posted by: Snow.2506

Snow.2506

Will it have new resources?
Will it have at least one new pet?
Will we we be able to swim and fight creatures in the ocean?
I ask the last question because we haven’t had water zones added since Southsun Cove
on November 18, 2012. Since then we’ve had a joke of a jungle without lakes and rivers were frogs have to live in trees and don’t even know how to swim. Now that Ember Bay is coming on a Fire Island Chain surrounded by the Ocean, no less. Are we finally after 3 years and 10 months going back to the water? Unless of course the water is boiling hot and we would die, which of course would be another lame excuse not to go for a swim or create water content.

Please discuss!!!

Tree frogs are a real thing. The Itzel look like tree frogs. They have the colours and the basic shape. Tree frogs don’t live in water and only spawn their tadpoles in the cups of leaves that catch water high in jungle canopies. They are also poisonous…like the Itzel are poison masters. See the connection?

I’m pretty sure that beasty in the trailer is a Stonehead with a different colouration. Maybe a Fire Island special variant.
Also a point to note about Mordremoth not being a dragon that I thought was pretty clear is that he was in fact a dragon at one point. The “Mouth” as it is called is merely what is left of his draconic body, the head. He sacrificed his form to become the jungle, to become everything. I mean think of how often he proclaims that with pride, “I am everything, I am everywhere.”
The head could quite easily fit on a dragon’s body. I think all of the Elder Dragons were just dragons once…then something happened, maybe they went magic mad like the people affected by the raw magic from the bloodstone?
As to what kind of dragon? Well the earlier concept art of a plant Elder Dragon showed Mordremoth as looking a bit in the head like Guild Wars’s old Dragon moss. Even the final version of the Mouth is similar in some ways.
At one point a skritt in the battle for Tarir calls him Mordremoss. Perhaps a hint as to what kind of dragon he was before he got super powered?

Just because everything seems to be leading to Prime doesn’t mean it will. It also doesn’t mean he’s the only enemy we need contend with.
He does make a lot of sense, though. There is as much reason to explore him as the crystal desert. The dragon lab, Rata Novus, the asura in general, the fact that Prime has been awake the longest and been doing…what? And just because a portion of the player base has expressed a want or desire doesn’t mean we all have. I’d love to go to the Crystal Desert. But I also would love underground, twisting, winding cavern maps. Multi level. Underground mushrooms could grow, making our mushroom mastery relevant. We may have to glide from one high cavern to the next or use the hot air updrafts coming off of lava flow to get higher.
You have to think of it from Anet’s perspective. They are continuing the mastery system and keeping old ones relevant as is shown by Bloodstone Fen. But what are a deserts defining features? Flat….flat…more flatness, maybe some dunes, maybe a couple small sandstone caves but mostly one level….

Tangled Depths Looped Sound

Kind of an odd little bug I’ve been having and I’m not sure if it’s client side or not. But while in the Tangled Depths map I keep getting this ominous build up sound on loop. It happens every minute or less and will even interrupt and kill other background music that has started even if just in a few seconds on that track.
I know this probably doesn’t affect a lot of people because they play with the music off and their own music playing or youtube in the background or something. But I actually quite like the music in the game, especially from HoT.
It’s not game breaking or anything (I can turn the music volume down when in Tangled Depths) but I thought I should point it out.

Dear Anet, I would PAY for this. As a daredevil there are maybe 4 skins that seem appropriate. Only 2 that fit my theme. But if you allowed us to use spear skins as staff skins I would be spoiled for choice.
Also since it seems that you’ve turned away from underwater content it would allow you to reuse old assets.

Repetitive Plot

Snow.2506

You also just basically described a majority of all stories that use the Hero’s Journey, especially ones where the hero have to go against a superior force. The hero can’t confront the villain’s forces head on, so they have to either sneak behind enemy lines or call them out for single combat to exploit a weakness or use some sort of special move/knowledge/device/whatever.

I hadn’t read the whole thread before posting. Seems you beat me well and truly to it.

Repetitive Plot

in Lore

Posted by: Snow.2506

Snow.2506

Does it not bother anyone else that Anet resolves its plot the same way each GW game for the major antagonists?
1) What happens each game there is this enemy something bad happens to drive hero to do something.
2) Go find out who the bad guy is and/or how to beat’em up.
3) Get means to win
4) Go behind enemy lines and exploit weaknesses researched in earlier parts.

1) Sauron begins hunting The One Ring.
2) Go to Rivendell to discover that the One Ring could be destroyed in Mt Doom..
3) Forge a fellowship to transport the ring there.
4) Sneak into Mordor, behind enemy lines to exploit the weakness discovered in earlier parts…

1) Voldemort returns, threatening both the wizarding and muggle worlds..
2) Heroes discover that Voldemort sealed his soul into horcruxes..
3) Find and destroy the horcruxes.
4) Allow yourself to seem dead so you can get behind enemy defences and finally exploit the last weakness defeating Voldemort.

What you described is pretty much the formula for ANY epic type fantasy arc that exists by default of the nature of story telling. You might as well complain the Anet tells a story at all.

“[…]finding anything like a Katana or even a Samurai Sword skin.”

“[…]Belinda’s Greatsword also, a Nodachi.”

Katana and “Samurai sword” are one in the same. Though I suppose “Samurai sword” Can describe anything from wakizashi, kodachi, katana, daito, to tachi and odachi.

Which brings me to Yumiko Ishida’s comment. Nodachi Doesn’t exist. It’s odachi.
Dachi is from tachi, a word for sword. T and D are interchangeable when words are combined together to create new words. “O” means “Great”. So it’s literally a greatsword. You’ll see that this fits since the weapon in game is of the greatsword type.
Nodachi would literally mean…. hmm, “Of sword”, which makes little sense. The misconception arises because when you say odachi in English you are naming a proper object so you say, “That is an odachi.” But the N in “an” blends into the word. It would be like a non English speaker hearing Nonion when we say, “An onion.”
Someone heard it spoken as such and it just kind of stuck.

Hope I don’t sound condescending, just wanting to educate.

To answer the question, the katana skin in game has been used, so far, for the swords that the Quetzal Tengu weild in the jungle.

what “META” dude, ROFL. The game got broken as kitten because Anet went the greedy road and released ridiculous and overpowered specs only to get more cash and then they decided to silence everyone with bans instead of responding to them properly or logically like they used to do in the past,
now they are just like every other kittenty cash grabbing company.

Im gonna list the problems with this game in a short and understandable manner so maybe if we’re lucky the ceo of arena net is gonna be checking forums while drunk and see my post by chance and then on the next morning get a brain and fix the game

- the elite specs are kittening overpowered as kitten
- before when you wanted to do something you had to sacrifice something else for it, for example to do dmg you had to sacrifice survivabiltiy (unless you were mesmer cause the class is a joke) , now with the new specs you can be tanky as kitten and do 500 million damage (daredevil tempest chronocancer reaper revenant,DRAGONHUNTER, etc)

This is where you lost me. When you included Daredevil as a tanky, high damage class. That’s like calling Cheerios “gourmet cuisine”. Daredevil has middling mediocre damage.

Obsession with trench coats

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Snow.2506

Snow.2506

Maybe I am the minority, but I actually like them. It just feels better. Speaking from a historical armour standpoint, a leather brigadine or gambeson that stopped at the thighs was very common among footsoldiers. Brigadines/gambesons that reached past the knee were reserved for those of high rank or those that rode on horseback. The reason is simple: more material=higher cost. So, by all means, if you wish to look like a footsoldier, do so. A lot of the armour you see that appears short is really under armour. Cloaks and long gambesons would the be worn over the armour.
What they should do is take out the horrid backpieces, and add cloaks, long coats, and gambesons, that can go over your armour.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I guess you could always go for a melee weapon on your weapon swap. If you get a legendary bow I hope they do a melee staff.

The problem with legendary staff, the 2nd legendary staff was released so,no hopes for melee staff atm but there is still hope for the longbow.

Don’t get me started on that. They had the chance…the CHANCE to add a melee legendary staff with 2 classes now using melee staffs… And didn’t. The Lightward Battle staff goes a way to make up for it though. I’m not a fan of overly flashy, so who’s to say I’d like their idea of a legendary melee staff anyway. Nevermore is perfect though for any caster I might play.
I’d never use a long bow, but I wouldn’t complain if that’s in the next batch of legendary weapons.

Why? It talks in first person with Mordremoth’s voice. There are a couple times it is referred to as mordremoth, it is clearly a dragon because it used the fear breath weapon, like all other dragons.

Is anyone else wincing at the phrasing of “Katana Dagger” and “Katana Sword?”

It’s like saying sword-sword and sword-dagger. A dagger in that style is a tanto and the sword, depending on length is a Wakizashi or a Katana.

Belinda’s Greatsword on the other hand, is more resembling a “Zanbato” which is a fictional/fantasy sword that’s uber long. Translates to somewhere around “horse-slaying sword” or “horse-chopping sword.”

Zanbato swords are most commonly seen in fighting-style anime, highlighted most especially by Bleach.

Anywho, just wanted to know if anyone else winced when they read that.

Mentor Tag: great idea, now make it better!

I can’t justify spending gold on an attention grabbing, “look at elitest me” commander tag, (Or that’s how I see it) even though I could have purchased one many times over. I’m a solo player at heart so I never saw the point. It basically says, "I may not know what I am doing but I had enough money to look like it! " But I did manage to get the mentor tag by default of gaining that one mastery in central Tyria.
And then we made it to the second to last phase of the Dragon Stand meta, where you need to fight the legendary in the blighting tower/trees while a zerg destroys any pods that pop back up and preservers. No one could or would tag up for the boss group. Knowing the fight, I reluctantly did, and have several times since.

Neither of these are particularly auspicious. I made my first chunk of gold by a lucky precursor drop for a legendary I would never use. And I definitely didn’t know what I was doing then as much as I do now. And the mentor tag is just too easy to get.
