Proposal Overview

Phase 1 : Instanced Guild Halls that is a physical representation of its members’ interests / achievements and a showcase to the general public.

Phase 2 : Ability to load Guild Hall Structure against another Guild’s for capture the flag map GvG for exclusive structure upgrade rewards.

Phase 3 : Release of a worldbuilder client with tools to customise Guild Hall Structure. Think Lego Sandbox.

Goal of Proposal

The existing towns and cities serve as meeting points, afking with legendaries and utility for players but there is no sense of ownership or ability to change/modify them. Guild Halls allows players to express their style of play and show to others their achievements as a guild. It will also bind and keep players together in a guild to maintain the structure.

Example A : A guild that specialises in socializing and helping new players will choose a guild structure concept that is open and inviting with gardens / lawns / water features to make a pleasant place to hang out and chat. They may have training dummies to teach players how to do combos or a hologram boss generator that spawns a dungeon boss (no loot) to teach their members tactics. They may hold speedclear contests on hologram bosses or other player RP events.

Example B : A guild that specialises in WvW / PvP / GvG will choose a guild structure that is imposing, defensive and add upgrades like oil, cannons, arrow carts for use to square off against other guilds’ structures in a capture the flag game.

Example C : A guild that specialises in achievements will choose a guild structure and upgrades that maximizes their trophy space and " in your face " flaunting of their uberness.

Example D : A guild that specialises in acquired tastes will choose a guild structure that confuses visitors where the entrances are, unexpected falls, mazes and dungeons with potential to RP like Moon Guard (WoW)

Proposal Functionality

Guild Halls are to be instanced and available with Research Architecture Level 7. They are meant for a group of players (10-20 and above) and not single player housing. They will experience weekly decay to encourage members to invest time and resources and work together to maintain the structure. Weekly maintainance will cost guild merits and member’s laurels . It is important that players focus their time on one Guild Hall rather than spread out to the maximum 5 guilds. Players are free to rep whichever of the 5 guilds (current max limit) they want to for earning influence but they must commit to one guild for the Guild Hall. Cosmetic / Functional upgrades to a guild halls can come from a variety of sources like gold (gems) , guild achievements, rare drops from guild started Teq/Karka Queen and GvG (phase 2).

Access to Guild Halls will be in 2 ways.
Each player will have an unique Guild Teleporter Stone that summouns an NPC wizard . Talking to the NPC will bring up option to zone into that Guild Hall. The cities will also get an NPC wizard that allows players to search for guild names or abbreviations and zone into selected Guild Halls as visitors.

Phase 2: I have always found it strange that there is no guild wars activity in Guild Wars 2. Allow guilds to set up capture the flag maps that loads in their Guild Halls at opposing ends of a GvG map. Damages to each Guild Halls will require Badges of Honor / PvP currency to repair or they (cannons, oil, traps etc) will not function in the next matchup.

Phase 3: Worldbuilder client will truly allow players to use their creativity to design unique Guild Halls within the confines of their Guild Hall instances. GvG oriented players will find strategic value in designing their layout to suit their fighting style.

Associated Risks

Guild Halls instances must have a restricted list function to prevent trouble makers / gold spammers from zoning in. This can take the form of a filter that restricts chars < a certain level / members of certain opposing guilds / private guild members only / open to all.

Customised Guild Halls maybe data storage hoggers so by making sure that Guild Halls remain exclusive to 10-20 players guilds onwards and having weekly decay will put a limit to wasted abandoned guild halls. By having different layouts and specialization, Guild Halls can be an unique destination for players to visit. It is certain that there will be websites that come up with reviews of extremely well done Guild Halls with great communities and advertise them. This may become a problem with too many people queuing to get into their Guild Hall.

@Sol: Competition yes..i am definitely up for that and agree with u…. Seeing someone (SoS) trying their absolute best to loose on purpose to come over someone who invests in that competition…definitely not. That’s something wrong in my view…..very wrong. That’s not the kind of competition ppl want to be part off. This effects more ppl in a negative way then it does in a positive way.

It’s the exact same thing as saying “hey u can learn however much u want in life….a slacker will still beat u at the end”. That’s not a good image to promote specially from a competitive point of view.

Let’s use sports competition as an analogy.

If we are in a 100m race, it’s bam and everyone bursts at max speed and it’s over in 10 seconds. If we are in a marathon race, pacing and strategy becomes important. You do not run a marathon by using max speed from the start and expect to last all the way to the finishing line. There are also teams whereby the main runner runs behind in the wake of his team mate to conserve energy before finally going max speed in the last few kilometres.

The 9 week tournament is more like a marathon race. Your view is that SoS will purposely lose which is against the spirit of competition but I view it as pacing. They still fight to the best of their abilities but conserve their strengths and not go for PPT.

If you watch soccer or football, you will see that there are important matches and less important matches. Each team does not go bam from start of league season at max effort all the way to end. They conserve strength, rest their key players during less important matches to reduce injuries and red cards. The football manager also has strategy and the half-time talks in the locker room is not just : ok fellows, fight all the way to get max points. There are matches whereby teams play super defensive to gain advantage for next match.

When you see WvW evolve in this matter to reflect real life sports competitions, it is a good thing. If it is a bad thing, why are these sports competition worth billions of dollars with millions of fans watching them ?

If you look at Season 2 in EU tournament, the only interesting thing going on is the untargetable underground naughty golem . The server rankings are pretty much set. This means they get the same old deal as in Season 1, except switching the name of the server coming in 1st, 2nd, 3rd etc.

In comparison, NA has a new meta : player initiated strategy got many people excited and many posts on it on forums, even player created caption humor flash.

Some BG players have also given feedback that they enjoy the increased competition and more bags from fights, making them rich. Since players now can affect the rankings of their servers apart from the usual biggest stacked coverage server wins, it has made more players interested and participate in WvW .

Each server can change the final outcome of predicted rankings, which makes it so exciting to watch. Remember that the war council of BG is still capable of counter strategies like buying more mercenaries from other time-zones. Their first wave of foreign reinforcements from Soviet Russia and EU should be landing on their shores this week with more to come after serving the 2 week penalty.

With GW2 on sale till 11th May, servers can also invest in more accounts to flood opposing servers to reduce the numbers of active real participants. They already have spy accounts and the next level is probably to take up a server’s slots in each map with multiple dummy accounts. Do not write off BG yet . Anything can happen !

Chris, you do not speak for the majority of SoS. The top 3 servers of Tier 1 have functional war councils that can decide and execute strategies. It is no small feat to coordinate many guilds to follow the same strategy.

The only server that is worried about SoS strategy these coming weeks is BG as this post’s analysis suggest a possibility of them ending up as 5th place in season 2 rather than the predicted 1st place. This is potentially a fatal blow that can cause mass exodus of their guilds to other servers. I am sure SoS understands very well how it is to fall from rank 1 , free-fall and struggle back up again. However, to pull off a grand strategy, it all depends on SoS war council ability.

This is an interesting analysis of the multiple possibilities a server’s war council can position themselves to get better rewards for their population.

The definition of :

Battlefield Tactics : Multiple short-term actions taken by field commanders to influence the results of a battle.

Strategy : Broad long-term actions taken by strategists to influence the outcome of a war.

Buying guilds / attracting people from other time-zones to fill in coverage gaps is a long term strategy which translates into capability to field superior numbers on a battlefield ( tactics ) . Entering into alliances ( long term strategy ) to field superior numbers on a battlefield ( tactics ) achieves the same results.

If you read Sun Tze Art of War, there are strategies such as :

Empty City Ruse
Pretending to be weak while one is really strong
Tactical Retreat

You can lose battles but win the war. Results matter. Imagine the possibility of a rich merchantile server using their economical might to buy alliances and win wars in Season 3. This would be really a player-initiated strategy that changes the WvW meta of just brute forcing with a bigger zerg.

TC and JQ have already created a first in breaking the norm, surpassing the EU servers in coming up with new ideas / alliances and tactics to make the matchup interesting. The whole world is watching this development, even the China players on their new servers.

The worst case scenario is that players start leaving BG and it starts freefalling down the ladder to languish in Silver league. But, what’s the big deal ? Many other servers have suffered the same fate. If players start leaving BG now and make for the "sure win " servers in Silver and Bronze league, they still can get 1st place rewards.

Already you can see many BG players and guilds in Eotm rather than helping in their 4 matchup maps. I guess running the karma train there is boring but they don’t have what it takes to help fight on main maps, hence they bring their illogical comments to forums.

TC and JQ are doing a great job making the NA Season 2 tournament interesting. It would have been really dull if winners were already determined from the start. Of course .. some x-fers paying cash / gems to transfer for a "certain 1st placing " may feel cheated but surely they are the minority and BG is full of Spartans there for the fight.

Bringing intrigue and alliances into WvW , I say JQ and TC deserves a special award for progressing the WvW meta. If having the biggest stacked forces / coverage does not guarantee a win, it would encourage people to invest and build solid foundations in their servers rather than auto x-fer to biggest server.

Hello. My name is Kaga, and this week I was in the worst spot in edge : Frostreach. The fantastic always outnumbered Bigbear Castle.

And yet, i was able to hold frostkeep for more than 3 hours yesterday, farming the zergs coming in, giving us a great baggie harvest with a generous side of zergling tears.

Against the grain of the karmatrainers that believe you should let it be capped and just recap it, The ice castle got defended against overwhelming odds. and a great many defenses ( for season) and kills were obtained by the happy edgerunners of Frostreach. Best moment was me on burning oil and a mate on a door cata killing 50 guys rushing the backbridge entrance in 10 seconds. It was that brutal.

If i’m around and running things, beware! Commander Kaga farms j00!

I guess after PvF matchup threads gone and Magumma retreats from their GvG not PPT claims after losing 9-0 to EU is bully farming uplevels / new players in Eotm ? This will make Magumma really popular with other server players.

You gotta be realistic ; when a server starts falling, u continue to bleed players for a few months until you stabilize. Diehards and ‘too poor to transfer players’ cling on to the belief that they can turn their server fortunes around but the WvW system favours stacked servers and players " want it now " mentality will make them transfer sooner than later.

I have yet to see Anet come out to say that Sabotage and Spies tactics are illegal.

They are unsavoury game tactics much like real world espionage. Spies get the death penalty for treason in many countries when caught by enemy but is not outlaw by Geneva Convention 1949 .

GW2 is 50% off this weekend. Any server worth their salt will be purchasing additional accounts and stationing them on enemy servers, if not already. War is unfair, get real ! It’s not aiming for e-sports status.

*Hint : New accounts are not valuable because they have little MF and ach points. If you hold back due to moral reasons, you will lose the chance to be top 3. Competition is brutal at the top, use whatever legal tactics you can.

The foundation of WvW is based on unbalancing and unfairness : big dog eats small dog. There is no pretense of evolving it into an e-sport.

Just like in real life, a certain developed country has access to drones that carries out assasinations in third world countries’ enemy combatants hiding in caves. Technological unfairness ! War is chaotic and unfair.

Rather than waste your brain cells coming up with ideas to make it fair, just switch to sPvP or player organised GvG tournaments.

When you breakdown the 2400gem cost to 250g, it does seem like a lot of money, about half the price of a precursor.

Considering that some of the WvW meta achievements may reward half a component to craft a Season 2 skin, the top 3 ranked servers in each league have a very good chance to end up with 2 Season 2 skins due to the large amount of points.

With the upcoming wardrobe changes, this means unlocking the skin for use with all your characters on account. Imagine a warrior using mace/shield having access to both skins.

As a friendly poster up there pointed out, the season last 9 weeks. The ‘rest period’ in between seasons is about 1-2 months. This means the access to skins is minimum 3 – 5 months. Lots of players have the " I want it now " and would pay 250g for a skin rather than wait.

The longbow and shield skin looks very yummy !

GW2 sustains itself by gem sales rather than subscription based model. The WvW team has a hard time justifying putting resources into WvW if they do not sell gems. I can only think of PvP finishers as one revenue. By allowing server transfers during the tournament, it is a way of selling a 2400gem skin ( equivalent to 4 pvp finishers cost ). It also allows PvE players to throw money into WvW content.

Guide to maximizing Season 2 rewards

Whenever there is new content, players login to quickly get the achievements and rewards, resulting in massive queues for WvW . EoTM helps but some achievements like capture castle, flip mercenaries etc cannot be done in EoTM. Not to mention grinding achievements in EoTM takes longer with the tricky terrain.

The price for a WvW Season 2 weapon is 300 tickets which means the top 5 servers in each league will be guaranteed one without having to wait for Season 3. With gold, silver and bronze leagues, there will be 15 servers that benefit. This means that any player can spend gems to xfer to these 15 servers during the Season 2 tourney to get a guaranteed weapon once the rankings are fairly stable.

There are now free xfers to low population servers where the WvW achievements can be easily farmed due to towers, keeps and castles not defended. Camps and sentries in borderlands can be soloed with little danger of meeting a zerg. Instant entry into any WvW maps due to low population.

When season 2 start, low population servers will be medium population due to the influx of pvers chasing achievements and rewards and they will become a zerg capturing objectives but not defending as there are no defend / yak escort achievements. This mode of play will be consistent with all low population servers and likewise their opponents. This becomes maximum efficiency in getting achievements done and no queues.

With Season 2 set to last 8 weeks, just xfer now for free and spend the first 2 weeks on a low population server grinding up all these achievements. On last day of week 2, look at server rankings in each league and spend gems to transfer to the final server of your choice. Spend week 3 and 4 in EoTM to finish up the kill enemy opponents achievements.

From week 5 to week 8, play normally on your final server to get representation on that server. Check with historian NPC to see this flag. It should not be a problem as you have only spent 2 weeks on low population server and 6 weeks on final server.

This method ensures that you do not have to deal with frustrating queues lasting a few hours. By week 4 to 8 , queues on your final server would have died down.

The maximum amount of gems you have to spend is 2400, just treat it as a quality of life gemstore purchase for no queues and buying a Season 2 weapon skin.

I guess the free xfers works because Kaineng has not been score leading for months.

Poor Ebay, I would have thought they were a mid sized WvW server not destined for the bottom pile.

WvW Season 1 - Low population servers

Instead of complaining about your servers doing badly and moving to higher tier ones, you should build up your community and DRAW people from tier 1-2-3 servers to your low pop servers because you have a nice community and NO QUES/little lag….

We are playing a game for fun and leisure. Why would we attempt to turn this into a job ? People will always take the path of least resistance and to win : that is to cheat using hacks and transfer to a T1 server. Even if u build up a decent WvW fighting team and commanders, Tier 1 servers’ scouts will come knocking and offer them free transfers and gems/ gold/ legendaries to transfer.

WvW coordinater dev Devon is playing in underdog NSP server in silver league. Care to see him lead and inspire that server to a top dog ? It is his job after-all and if he cannot do it, how can you expect players to do so ?

Limiting Offensive Siege

Superior versions of siege requires more supply which does not hinder a zerg much. Such a design promotes zerg mentality. Superior versions should require gating requirements like the guild versions that uses commendations so that they are truly special and not used by a zerg at every structure.

There is very little reward for hardworking players / community that put in hours of time and gold to upgrade towers/keeps/castle. They are better off following the zerg to recap stuff.

Notice that :
(1) No WvW season achievement that involves defending objectives
(2) you earn more karma, WXP, silver from capturing objectives than defending for the amount of time spent.
(3) No meta achievement to record amount of gold a person spent on upgrading structures. No title awarded to players who spend 100s of gold over a month upgrading structures.

Hey matchup mates, Beasty CO [BC] joined Kaineng earlier this week to help fight the good WvW fight in Bronze League. No Ques equal big win.

Anvil Rock, we must apologize, but nothing can be red until we solidly have 2nd place in this fight in hand. Sorry for the inconvenience. I heard the Toxic PVE is pretty good.

I have been reading Anet WvW Coordinator Devon reply to this thread and would like to give my thoughts to them.

First of all, I would like to give credit to Anet’s Christ Whiteside for polling the players’ concerns and validating that population issues is not a minority opinion of the playerbase.

I gather from Devon’s replies that Anet’s cardinal rule for GW2 is to encourage players to play with each other and build communities. Hence, some of the forum posters ideas are not good because they will affect community building.

Now, I would like to remind you that the league system destroyed WvW communities on lower tier servers especially those in Bronze as the Gold Tier servers went on recruitment drives before league start with free transfers and legendary weapon gifts to capable Guild leaders and commanders to bring their team over. This means that the gold league servers’ community grew at the expenses of the lower tier servers.

Despite the warning of long queues from Devon and threats of not meeting achievement requirements, nobody listened to him and transferred anyway, resulting in 8 hour weekend queues. Now, question is : Did the gold league servers’ build up community or are the long queues = not being able to play at all with your friends ? Are people blaming the transfers now for not being able to enter WvW ?

The easiest solution would be to go to Finance and ask for bigger server upgrades and more bandwidth from your service providers, but the truth is that you cannot do so. This is because Finance will come back and ask you if ALL your servers are full. If not, it just shows that you are not optimizing your available resources.

My point is to Devon : Not to trash ideas on the surface that it might / will affect communities. Digest and think over them and reach a compromise that benefits your playerbase.

P.S. My new year’s resolution is for world peace and an end for poverty. If it takes pointing nuclear warheads at each other to enjoy world peace, I’ll take it. I cannot end poverty alone but my monthly contribution to charity plays a small part.

Collaborative Development: World Population

WvW and PvE population has to be separated when classifying server population. With guesting option, the only real main reason to pay gems for server transfer is for WvW content.

Point 1 :
There exist a PPT calculator that adds up points every 15mins. Expand on this to record number of players on each server on all 4 maps. This will give you the numbers to properly classify servers as High / Medium / Low and price gem transfer accordingly.

Point 2 :
Anet already has a very powerful weapon against overpopulation and that is called queues. Expand on this to enforce queues on each server in a matchup rather than on map basis. In other words if the participants limit per map is 300, allow 100 spaces per server for that map. If Server A has already 100 players on a map, their players have to queue. Server B which has 60 players and not reached their quota will allow their players to enter immediately. For 4 maps, that means 400 players per server allowed to participate in WvW without queueing. This limit can be adjusted if Anet invests in better server hardware and software improvements to cope with more players.

Point 3:
PvE players and new entrants to WvW are very easily influenced by WXP and achievement rewards. Increase the WXP and Magic Find bonus to outmanned servers to ease the pain of getting roflstomped continuously. The bonuses have to be OPed big so that players seek out less stacked servers. This will obviously only affect the low population servers but will make huge PvE guilds hesitate to bandwagon onto successful Tier 1 servers to piggyback on their success.

Point 4:
Follow the guild influence system and restrict WvW ranks to server specific. When players switch servers, their ranks get reset to lvl 1 for new server. If they choose to return to original server, their original ranks come back. This will create a sense of belonging and will encourage players to commit to build up on a server rather than hop to the winning flavour of the season.

Mad about long queues and achievements?

Scut is very kind to explain the loophole. Maybe it was planned as this lets Anet earn more gems from transfers. Players looking for easy levelling and WXP with no queues and plenty of objectives to capture can transfer now to bronze leagues to karma train / keep / castle swooping.

It is a creative way of buying WvW League Season Loot using gems. Quality of life for 2months in bronze league is worth it. No queues, no skill-lag and average skilled players seem like supergood.

Kaineng tried a big effort on Monday Oceanic / SEA to take back our keep in Eternal Battlegrounds but were stopped by Ebay zerg defending /repairing / sieging the inner walls / doors fiercely. It didn’t help that HoD decide to come sabotage our efforts by capping all our camps. We failed to get back the keep but got Garrison in borderlands back. Garrison ownership lasted 6 hours and upgraded to Tier 2 amidst the repeated assault attempts by Ebay – golems / trebs / superior ram zergs ; then we all had to go sleep. But it was good fun.

Today I saw a NSP player in KNBL that was mad at his server for “chicken-tanking-shenanigans” and decided to transfer to Kaineng. It was refreshing to see someone coming in than going out and he had a lot of praise for us.

I doubt there is a concerted effort on HoD or Kain to purposely drop rating as the PPT goes up and down through the day / time . I have not heard on forum or ingame chat on anyone ordering other players not to play / cap stuff. Everybody is still doing as they please.

We welcome proud NSP players that wanna play WvW to come to Kaineng. I’m sure HoD will too. Transfers are cheap, come now and boost our PPT and have fun ! The matchup thread for NSP is positively toxic .

Kaineng should probably take one for the GW2 WvW community and let Mr. Arrowcarter lead NSP to glory in the silver league. He will the Moses that parted the Sea, except that the NSP zerg will part away from him when meeting enemy zerg to let them steamroll him. This will be the best practical experience for a WvW dev to experience and not dismiss the forum feedback as the minority.

SBI are really good, easily on par with Tier 2 in terms of numbers , skills and strategy. We cannot even capture a camp without an enemy response team driving by. They are just holding both YB and Kaineng back at same time.

It is extremely unfortunate such a matchup occurred for all 3 servers. Firstly, SBI have almost no objectives to capture and a week of steamrolling will blunt their skills. Second, both YB and Kain players will not bother to show up. There is a difference between trying hard and stupidity of coming into WvW to accomplish nothing. I hope SBI will gain enough points to move into the gold tier before the league starts.

I make a guess that there is fighting between kaineng and Ebay over Durios. You guys follow Prada and the poor commander on left side gets no love. This guy with epic-sounding name : Ragnarok Duskborn seems to be a begger ?

You are running the standard cookie cutter support guardian build. Mag has bloodlust buff. Your team all lvl 80s and food buffed except the lazy one. Suggest penalty of buying one stack of bluff food for guild bank. Killing grub because too bored probably ?

i wanna know how the fuk we (Kaineng) got matched up against such higher ranking
servers than our selfs…… i thought that the new matching system was to make things more fair… we almost always seem to be match with servers alot higher than our own….. HOWEVER!! what we lack in numbers we make up for in spirit, courage and skill. LONG LIVE KAINENG!!!!!!!!!!!

I would agree that you got the short end, but your server spokesman Sol has enlightened us that quality is greater than quantity. Maybe you should contact him on how to improve if you aren’t winning.

At 6.37am Friday morning, Kaineng players engaged a Maguuma zerg boosted by many Omega golems in open field combat. Despite lagging Magumma by 140k points and less than 24 hours to reset, Kaineng rose to the threat and came to protect their paper towers and keep. This shows tenacity and fighting spirit.

On top left corner of picture, you can see this lvl 80 warrior partied with a lvl 21 necromancer and lvl 72 elementalist. The lvl 80 warrior is using a long-bow and having skills in bar that suggest a team support build. This is very admirable and rare to find ! A player that puts his friends and team-mates before himself to help them out. He was not running the more fun PvP condition builds to ensure a higher chance to win fights but chose a build that benefits the team.

Next look at the chat box, polite and sensible chat text that shows very civilized players. All these points to quality players. A picture like this is much better than the generic propaganda that many servers post in their recruitment thread.

And talking about winning – we knew we were not going to make up the 140k points difference in less than 24 hours, but that didn’t stop us from coming out to fight the leading server in this match-up.

If anyone has pictures taken 5mins after this picture, you will see many dead bodies and Omega Golems on the floor and the rest of the Magumma Zerg hiding inside SM Castle with their superior ACs and ballistas. In my point of view, we won this fight and beat back their zerg.

Being from a lowly rank 14 server, I learned a new tactic from a server 6 ranks higher tonite. Omega Golems is the new wvw league meta in open field fights ! I am not sure how many is considered effective thou so let’s have a contest :

How many Omega Golems is needed to beat Kaineng in an open field fight ?

Omega Seige Golem Blueprints are 1gold 69 silver each on Trading Post.

Magumma (Rank 8 ) built 10 of those to engage in open field fight with Kaineng (rank 14). These 10 OMEGA golems were supported by an additional 20 players on foot, but they were all beaten back by Kaineng players to hide inside their SM Castle. Superb show of class and skill by the bears.

It’s all about the money.

You pay gems for extra character slots , bank slots, char bag slots etc.

for standard account with 5 slots,
