OP – I’m level 36 and haven’t done the story mode yet. I’m looking for complete noobs to run AC with me this weekend and will be advertising this point to them.
One thing I hated about Dungeon running in WoW was the fact I joined 6 years after the game came out and everyone knows everything about the dungeons, whilst I wanted to explore.
Good luck finding people to run with – I’ll be in the same position tonight!
T4R
I’ve googled and couldn’t find a lot. Just wondering if anything has been mentioned and I’ve missed it.
Go to the lower-level areas and help people like me taking their time and levelling alts…we need more people on the group events!
I get 50-60 with everything on ultra (or very high…whatever it’s called) but turn down my shadows 9like every game).

You’re not the only one OP – this is my first MMO and am loving the hell outta it!
It’s nothing like any game I have played before…it’s so deep and rich in playstyles and atmosphere sometimes I’m dumbstruck as to what I should do.
I’ve been playing since launch, and kept making new characters to try them all. Because of this, my main is only level 36, so I’m nowhere near end-game yet. Just taking my time and have found a decent friendly guild who give me the items they don’t need anymore hehe.
Enjoy yourself!
I believe you are fairly accurate in your assumption. Us forum goers are definitely in the minority. Even considering the 113241 views on the thread “Ranger update” which was posted about a month ago, helps reassure this point. Assume any ranger that attends the forums looked at this thread at least once in that month. Then you have 113241 rangers on the forums. As a rough estimate for forum goers, multiple this by 8 (all the professions) and you have 905928 players.
I don’t think that’s how it works.
The ‘views’ is how many thimes the thread is opened, regardless of who opened it. It isn’t 120k indivivduals, it has just been opened that many times.
It could just be 500 guys checking the thread over and over in the space of a month.
OT: yes, every game’s forum is always in the minority in comparison to the player count, even though the forums often shout the loudest.
No – I’m making far too much money from selling them. I would be flat out broke if they were bound to me.
Completely off-topic, but where is your signature from? That’s a nice quotation.
I’m level 25 and regularly see people doing events.
Apart from last nite, when I took on a Giant Toad boss in the Sylvari homeworld by myself for 30 minutes..
There are Dragons ó_0
I didn’t know this. I’m guessing they are in the high-level zones?
Lvl 50 area
Lvl 65 area
Lvl 80 areamy post above gives their names and rough locations.
Nice. I am trying to avoid learning too much about laters zones (I’m only level 25…), but you just got me excited now.

I just think that Anet needs to slow the respawn rate on enemies now that people are in the higher-level zones. I’m level 22(ish) and am forever getting jumped by enemies spawning on me.
I tried the fire imp / burning bush DE in the Sylvari worl last night – I would kill 5 of the 7 imps, and then they would always start respawning again. Took me 30 minutes by myself and still couldn’t do it.
So, the gems used to cost about 60s and now reached 1g40s, i understand that due to the events(lost shores + black friday) there should be a demand for gems but this is really becoming too expensive to buy with gold.
It’s the same with any game with an economy.
Take Diablo 3 for example – during the first week, gold was about £&-8 iirc. Now it’s about 30p for a million. Gold / whatever currency loses its value as time goes on and everyone has lots of it.
I see more Char Engineers than I do any other race/job, hosing down enemies with flames about 5 seconds before my Thief gets to them
I think that people who didn’t expect new items / weapons to be introduced into an MMO is delusional.
If you were expecting to play the game for 5+ years, I would be bored stiff after having the same items for 4 1/2 of those years.
Besides, Anet has already said the new gear will be aquired via different means – gamers nowadays are jumping on another bandwagon of hate.
People say they don’t believe in “Gamer Entitlement”, but looking on ANY game forums nowadays it’s hard not to notice it.
Now that the game has been out for a while, are there any plans to look at the respawn rates of enemies, especially in the starting regions / lower level areas.
I’m loving the game.
My only issue is with PvE difficulty at the minute – some areas I faceroll, and some like Kessex Hills are an absolute nitemare with really high respawn rates.
It took me about 30 minutes yesterday to destroy that road block by myself as the 8 or so bandits would start respawning after I had killed about 4 or the group.
…isn’t Tarnished Coast always full though?
I appreciate everyone’s feedback but please stay on topic. They have already locked one of my other posts. Do not want to give them a reason to lock this one.
I would really like someone to explain if they believe adding “gear stat progression” makes GW2 distinct now, a different MMO. And if you feel it does not, why not.
All I’ll say is this:
As a level 13 Thief, I am looking forward to earning better weapons and items for my class. I want this feeling to last until level 80. I am also excited that there is now gear for me to aim towards, that is not mandatory for every player, and is entirely optional.
As a result, I am finding myself getting overwhelmed by unbelievably high respawn rates in somewhere as simple as Kessex Hills. Kill four guys, and by the time the fourth is dead, #1 is already beating on me, and #2 has just risen from the grave to join in.
I’m so glad someone else mentioned Kessex Hills.
I’m new to MMO’s, and was dying constantly due to high respawn rates. Keesex Hills to me was like pulling teeth.
I’m slowly getting stronger, and used to the respawn rate, but kitten if it didn’t kick my kitten the first month or so.
Edit: is the profanity filter Kitten? How quaint. And it looks worse filtered than what I actually said hehe.
When the 99% is discarded because you only get “top tiered good stuff” from the 1%, we do get upset.
It’s like if you had a mansion but were forced to live in the shanty mold infested room with no heating. People could kitten “Sure but you still live in a mansion”, for the good it does you locked in the room you hate.
You can’t have it both ways dude.
You can’t say “I don’t want a vertical stat progression of gear” and in the same sentence say “I want the new gear to be available to me too”. That is being a hypocrite.
You can either go for it now (or later, when new avenues to persue it arrive), or ignore it.
You can’t have it both ways.
99% of the game is the same to how it was 1 week ago.
1% of the game has now caused upset.
It literally makes no sense. You can choose not to get the new gear, or wait until it is available via different means. Everyone has chosen to spam the forums instead.
Good work guys.
I’m option G:
I play PvE, haven’t touched PvP or WvWvW as I;m an MMO newbie and don’t want to get destroyed, am only level 15 and nowhere nrear the end game.
Saying that, I like the idea of new gear, and am not opposed to a bit of hard work to earn it. I think people who expected everyone to have got the best items 3 months into the game and for it to remain that way for the next 6+ years I think are deluding themselves a bit…
Same as you Southern.
Furthermore, the art-direction in this game is just amazing, i’m continously blown away by the environments.
Totally agree.
I’m new to PC gaming, having bought my rig coincidentally after seeing a GW2 vid on YouTube.
It really blows me away how gorgeous this game is. I was in Godslost Swamp yesterday and it was beautiful.
My screenshot folder is coming along nicely
I don’t understand all of the anger towards Anet at the minute.
This is an MMORPG. RPG games, since the dawn of time, have been about stats and vertical progression.
Anet has, from what I understand, introduced 1 end game tier dungeon, and items needed to progress in this dungeon, and everyone is acting like this is the death of the game.
Am I missing something? Surely you can choose not to do this dungeon? It is specifically aimed at those who want to grind, which is what the other 50% of the fanbase has been moaning about since launch.
This is meant to appease them, not alienate you. Why is this such a bad thing? I honestly don’t understand…
While I agree to a certain extent, RPGs are not defined by stat progression. RPG stands for role-playing game. No where in a rule book does say that an RPG needs to be designed with vertical scales, or even numbers for that matter.
No, but every single RPG, video game or table-top, has had stats and progression. It is not defined by this, but it is a part of what the genre entails.
I’m the opposite.
Bought the game and been playing since day 1, but as this was my first MMO it was all a bit daunting and off-putting.
Made my 4th caharcter on Friday, a human female thief, and am loving her to bits. Totally got hooked this whole weekend and havem’t stopped playing.
It’s a shame I didn’t really take part in the Halloween event (faced the pumkin dude alone asa level 7 warrior – didn’t know what to do…) or this weekend’s events, but am really looking forward to the future of this game now.

Has anyone got any hints for an MMO newbie, mainly around combat?
I seem to struggle when a few enemies rush me at once. I play as a Norn Warrior using double-handed weapons like hammer and sword.
I have a few attacks which can target multiple enemies, but it seems like I’m punching above my weight at the minute. Dying means I have to go miles back to a waypoint and I just get frustrated that I end up losing so much progress each time and switch off.
I like the game but am terible at it. Help!
So…
You added a new layer of security to your account, only to moan it is doing its job when asking you for the authenticator number?
I’m guessing everyone is in the higher zones.
I’ve only been playing a few weeks, and can’t find anyone in the lower zones.
I even joined a random guild invite for some grouping-up – only 3 people out of 300 were online.
w-where is everyone?
Totally agree.
I’m only level 14 and bored of my skills already. Doesn’t help that every 2 handed sword is the best item I own, so I would be a fool not to use the best tool for the job.
I like grinding in games. Always have since I played Diablo 2 all those years ago.
I’m nowhere near endgame content as of yet, but I keep hearing mixed thoughts on it:
On one hand I hear player arguing there is nothing to do, nothing to grind, etc. However, I also hear the grinding for one Legendary item can take ages with the 250 of each ingredient (or whatever it is) which I am looking forward to personally.
I just think that Arenanet needs to provide more grinding for those who want it, and other avenues to explore for those who don’t. Neither should be better than the other, simply a different means to the same end.
Well, I’m no expert on the game, and struggled myself to find a role I liked.
I started Necro, then Guardian, Engineer and have now finally settled on a Norn Warrior.
Really enjoying the fact I can use 99% of the weapons, which means more skills availible to me.
Only level 11, but really enjoying him so far.
Slightly off-topic, but where can I fin dinformation about Legendary Items? Is there anywhere in game? Or just use a Wiki?
You’d really need to use the GW2 Wiki unless you wanted to drive yourself insane as you hunted for the countless bread crumbs of information.
Thanks dude.
I’m new to the game and don’t know anything about anything yet…

I’d like to know this too.
I wanted to swap onto a server with some guys from another forum I post on…but don’t want to if it costs anything.
Hell, I only have 3 silver pieces to my name as a level 10 Warrior – I can’t even afford upgrade my stuff!
I rarely see anyone any more in the Nord home City and Hoelbrek.
Yet I got the started edition of WoW last week and the starter town was rammed with other players, 8 years after the game came out.
..where are you guys all hiding? I can’t be the only level 10 player out there?
I’m only level 11 (I think) – can I participate in the events?
I’ve only just really got into the game since launch and wanted to get stuck into the first major update for the game. Would be a shame to miss it.
I didn’t really know about the event as I’m just getting into the game and still only in the Nord starting area.
Tried a random event game though but didn’t understand it and left.
Guess that’s it for this year’s Halloween event…
As someone who is new to the MMO genre, the game was initially daunting at first. The more I play it, the more I like what I am playing.
However, one thing that I don’t like is the fact that the skills are tied to the weapons. I’m only level 10-ish, but the fact I like using my 2 handed mighty hammmer means I will be using these same 5 main skills for the next 70 levels…
…which will grate on me, no matter how I dress it up.
I spend more time pressing my ‘Print Screen’ button than any of the attack buttons!
This is my first MMO…and I have a bad case of buyers remorse.
I’m literally bored senseless.
Events are all the same, so are quests. Collect this, protect that, kill X of these.
Nobody communicates, events are just a spamfest of magic. I’m in 2 guilds and nobody has spoken to me since joining.
I really want to like this game, but its like everything is working against that.
