Did you know that if you click the button on the left of your screen for single/team matches, it puts a green check by your name? If you do that when you hop into the game before you go afk and/or jump around, it will start the match when 10 ppl have clicked it.
I have exclusively played sPVP/tPVP the whole time this game has been out except to get my character to 80 via pve and finish the story.
I tried to step into WvW yesterday for the first time ankitten ot sure how to play because I don’t know how the playstyle is different from small scale PvP and if I have any hope of actually standing a chance, considering I don’t have time (nor want to) grind for gear. Should I just stick to s/tPVP and quit when I’m bored? From what I understand, WvW was always gear-dependent, and I never had a lot of time to devote to this game in the first place, which is why I stuck to s/tPvP. I don’t have friends that play anymore and haven’t played in like 2 months.
I have 1 class only—mesmer. I haven’t played nor really wanted to play other classes and pretty much got the game, so I could play this class and have been frustrated with how it is turning out in tPvP. I feel like other classes have it better in s/tPvP and am trying to try a new venue…should I even bother?
Today I had to fight a team full of Asura Mesmers. Tell me how the size advantage isn’t an EGREGIOUS advantage.
I’m TIRED of fighting ASURA. Make them the same size as everyone else with similar animations. They hide in clones/minions/particle effects and you can’t even tell when they are about to do something like you can on all other races. It is NOT FAIR. Remove the Asura or remove their size and animation advantages!
Not sure what happened to the last post on this, but I do not see any changes addressed or proposed. If they’re gonna polish off class balance, how about a race patch for spvp and tpvp? It’s not fair playing a large character with obvious animations versus one with unfinished animations or no animations because they are so small. Compare an Asura mesmer to any other race of mesmer and they have a huge advantage because they get lost in the crowd.
Simply an asthetic effect change request.
When illusions die, either through shatter or killed, while traiting Confusing Combatants and Debilitating Dissipation, I assume it’s the same with Crippling Dissipation as well, they sort of explode, something that has been annoying me since it really doesn’t fit with the rest of mesmer spell effects.
Would fit better if they exploded with the a similar effect to the Prestige skill, purple fire, butterflies etc.
Anyone else feeling the same or am I too obsessed with details?
I see this patch didn’t do much to the engineer placeholder graphic my illusions have when they are killed.
If you come up with a good build, don’t share it with others. Be selfish. Otherwise people will come to the forums, copy your build, and faceroll mindlessly because they lack any creative juices of their own.
Anyone come up with anything good yet?
Have you no shame? You have to copy others’ builds?
I’m on board for some sort of standardized race checkbox we could do in the options or perhaps enlarging the asura and actually finishing their race animations to be as ostentatious as everyone else’s.
Brb modifying post name from “Remove Asura from PvP” to “Asura Animations are too Advantageous”
i wouldn’t remove them, some ppl love the looks
they should just make their models bigger in pvp
you can’t tell earthshaker from dodge apart since they have almost same animation; add to it smallest model ever in dark clothing among 10000 of pets from ranger…. yeah gl seeing anything
Agree. Just make them the same size and standarize the animations. There’s no need for them to be small. It’s too much of an advantage. Again, look at all the people playing Asuras in pvp. People gravitate to whatever class/race/build combo wins. Everyone “good” is Asura and this is not ever talked about. They wouldn’t be as “good” if they didn’t have the size advantage.
The only reason people in pvp play them is because they are small and it is an advantage. None of the other races have such advantages…only the disadvantage of being large. It is hard to target mesmers who are Asura moreso than any other mesmer race. People in pvp do not play Asura for lore reasons, let’s be serious…just do a poll and compare what races people play in pvp. Easy Asura will outnumber all the rest.
Just get rid of them and your game is that much more fair. I’m SICK of their tiny kitten animations, their annoying voices, and the targeting advantage they have. It was nice you fixed the targeting necros among their petting zoo, but the same issue still exists for mesmers who are Asura. Their animations are too hard to spot and see. That’s completely outrageous.

Just had a tournament with 6 guardians total in the map. All are that stupid burst damage build and they can still go invuln and heal back up and block any interrupt attempts. kitten this game.
I wish they’d get rid of this “esport” mentality. MOST people who play this game don’t give a crap about the leaderboards and rarely if ever look at them (if they ever have).
Are you saying that those finishers are reserved for people who have achieved a certain rank in the leaderboards? Because that’s kittened up. I want a dragon/phoenix finisher too, but there’s no way I’m going to quit my job and practice pvp like a pro would.
I second the notion. I’m sick of waiting on people who signed up for something to come.
There’s no reason not to arrive on time and click the ready button other than to troll 9 other players.
Hotjoin doesn’t award points anymore unless you stay to the end, so no excuses. 2 min is too long to sit around for a solo Q. Heck people don’t even use it in team Q.
I’d rather not watch people jump around mindlessly with their Asuras, the most annoying character created in gaming history. The only reason they are played are because they are small and that is too much of an advantage I’m surprised they even created this race for a pvp game.
Icebow seriously? Way more balanced than the stuff thieves are allowed to do that are uncounterable like perma evade/blind/stealth and then 2 shot you from stealth.
I just play 1. Mesmer. The other professions don’t interest me. I know what I like, and it’s habit. It’s a unique class in MMOs that other games didn’t have, and I always play some sort of mage caster that specializes in control over nuke damage…even if I play the nuke damage class “bad” because I specialize in their control abilities.
I’m sure it’s no different than being single and polygamous versus married and monogamous.
It goes against the idea of the class. We aren’t supposed to be a “Minion master” we are supposed to be a deception class. However phantasms double as turrets.
I’ve tried builds based on reflection and blocks. They suck because even with all your defensive traits, you are too squishy and reflects don’t do enough damage to punish anyone they can’t heal through. You also lack any ability to really pressure them if you happen to get them down, such as an on demand interrupt for a heal or actual damage (because you’re using a warden).
Have you ever played Scepter/sword? It is clunky. Block animations leave you vulnerable to the next few hits unless you abort the damage and clone duration and dodge roll the following attacks. The animations are too slow (you end up taking 3 hits or so…or the enemy just dodge rolls the counter attack).
At least try scepter/focus and Sword/Sword. However, again, you aren’t doing much damage to pressure anyone and you take too much damage in return.
This build is pretty much only good against someone who doesn’t have a melee set (so rangers who stay afar, pistol thieves, possibly elementalists). Even then, they can just run away when they realize you’re reflecting everything and are at best a troll build and can’t pressure them.
I have yet to find any viable mesmer builds that actually do anything worthwhile that are not burst based (so shatter/interrupt builds—bunker builds on mesmer suck, reflection/confusion builds suck). Trust me, I’ve tried all possible builds I can think of since this is the only class I play. Retaliation sucks on mesmer for the same reason: too squishy even with max defensive traits and it relies on someone else just hitting you (you can’t pressure them directly).
I’m speaking strictly for spvp and tpvp.

I actually like the current incarnation of Mimic. I don’t see why it needs a change. It fills the role of a selfish reflect and block and works extremely well in builds that like retaliation up.
It seems like it removes a condition when activating Torch 4 and 5. It also seems to remove a condition when the iMage’s bolt hits you. Does it also remove a condition when the prestige ends?
Is this intended that engineers can just punt you off skyhammer without any counter except precasted stability? Mantra of concentration is supposed to break stun and give stability and you just lie on the floor as though it didn’t do anything for the whole 2 seconds.
Why do stun breaks not let you stand up from being launched, pushed, pulled? If I use mantra of concentration during a lunch, the 2 seconds of stability are wasted lying on the ground.
I’m not a fan of any new rank system based off of tournament wins. FOTM build cookie cutters will be at the top. Not underdogs who make viable fun builds. People who join pvp guilds will not be having fun—they will be playing what they are told to play, which is fotm or get out and not play tournies.
Not to get off topic, but it’s like this for the rest of the game aswell. Top WvW guilds want their players running specific builds to compliment what the team needs, PvE guild and dungeon groups kick people who don’t run full zerk FotM builds. There’s nothing that can be done to avoid the build favoritism.
Yes there is, just don’t join groups with black and white thinkers who turn a game into a job.
You’re not supposed to go a full mantra build. If you do, it will have glaring weaknesses clearly. Also, no class, especially not mesmer, is supposed to stand around and act as cleric…this game intentionally did not make a cleric class. So trying to make yourself one via mantra is black and white thinking in terms of how heals support a team. You can be supportive without being a complete carebear build. Most people don’t understand this, which is why the “condition meta” is such a big deal. Everyone can spec to deal with any build in this game, but you can’t go all black and white thinking without having weaknesses. If you pack full condition removals, you lack stun removal or interrupts or some other useful utility you wish you had in some situations, etc. Full mantra = channeling all the time. There’s a reason why they are better than the other skills—they have a cost.
I’m not a fan of any new rank system based off of tournament wins. FOTM build cookie cutters will be at the top. Not underdogs who make viable fun builds. yeah that’s exactly how i see it..and of course i got owned in duels with my mantra build i just wanted to show you guys how strong it can be
i see it more like a challenge and i like challenges because most of the classes became faceroll in gw2challenge or self inflicted handicap? Interesting vid though. It’s amazing how viable the GS is in pvp now. I am curious why you go GS 4,3,2 instead of GS 2,3,4 since GS 2 stacks 6 might giving your iZerker a nice buff.
The greatsword is THE easiest weapon to interrupt in the entire game…let alone dodge. It’s really only good against bads.
So you’re saying they’re just going to reward those who rank farmed skyhammer while it was allowed and punish those who didn’t take advantage of that opportunity by not taking away their rank status or making it easier for people to gain rank?
You are probably dodging too much. Use a dodge and make sure you have vigor up from criticals. I never said shatter. People overuse mind wrack. Phantasms do more dps alive. The only shatters I really use unless I have excessive clones from doing things right are diversion and distortion—which both do the same thing—you stop taking damage. Your offhands, except for the focus, all do the same thing. You avoid damage with the blind on the prestige, you avoid damage or daze with sword 4, and pistol you stun to avoid damage. Greatsword lacks defensive skills completely outside of when AI decides to attack your clones or the 30 sec cd knockback. You can always rotate dodges, interrupts, diversion/distortion, offhand damage avoidance, and your other weapon set is only on a 10 second cooldown, which likely has more damage avoidance/blocks. It’s much more of an active playstyle than greatsword. If you run an interrupt build for a while, you will get good at this.
Mantras can be charged in combat in stealth, with stability, with distortion, when the focus is off you, or after stunning someone. There are traits that let you get a kitten nice heal off too when you charge one.
This is true, but then you’re using your skills to avoid a flaw in the mantra design – not to gain an edge in combat.
Personally, I rather focus on the actual combat and defeating my opponent than finding a way to safely channel the mantra.
Don’t use a mantra then. I find it worthwhile for the 2.5k heal, toughness, and the utility after. I also find leaving stealth early usually a bad idea due to the revealed thing.
So does greatsword 2 on a much more guaranteed basis (not on the end of a chain you rarely finish in pvp)
Spatial surge rewards you for playing ranged by giving you more damage. It is also a beam that hits everything in between, allowing multiple target damage. It does have a “long channel,” but it also does more damage even at the closest range compared to Ether Bolt/Blast/Clone.
Ether bolt is a non-comboing projectile that fires just as slowly and does less damage. Explain how this is fair and not overlooked?
Well if you backroll you can create a clone which can be used for shatters or debuffs if you trait them. Stuns and weapon swaps are for when you need endurance time or blurred frenzy is down. I find greatsword to be boring and avoid it in all builds unless I’m in need of long range (although someone explain to me how it does the same damage in close range as a scepter auto attack and can be through multiple people…that needs a nerf).
Poke and dodge and evade bigger attacks with blurred frenzy, distortions, interrupts. If you are using a sword, you likely get vigor from crits (or maybe have the vigor on shatter trait). You also weapon swap.
Just preventing extended games isn’t doing enough to curtail this. That would also affect people who spvp while waiting on tpvp queues such that they wouldn’t get any glory/rank for killing people on the way to tpvp. Just remove the glory.
Hm, in my view – mantras have one big handicap. They are limited and have “long” uploading times. This effect will make them weak against all good players.
Not only the fact, that an enemy can see what u got left on your buffbar is crap – even more it´s quiet hard to recharge all mantras in a fight. When i see a player charging their mantras i give them hell. because it´s like a cc from your own. he is forced to finish the cast when he needs the effects and dodging is impossible in this action – so he receive a huge amount of dmg.
Without skill changes mantra builds are just ineffective compared to alternative specs.
I disagree. You are assuming that everyone plays like you and nakedly charges mantras. Mantras can be charged in combat in stealth, with stability, with distortion, when the focus is off you, or after stunning someone. There are traits that let you get a kitten nice heal off too when you charge one. Not every class has direct heals outside of a heal skill. You can also charge them as a tactic to bait other interrupts out so you can just heal later. You can charge them with the toughness trait (400 toughness is a lot…the whole chaos tree is 300 toughness…). Mantra of concentration can be 2-3 stun breaks on a 20 sec cooldown, or it can be used to stomp, res, or channel another ability (such as a mantra, confusing images, elite skill). These aren’t builds you’ll find on the internet!

Maybe it is easier to roll back everyone and harder to roll back one person?
Also, this is GW2. Not GW1. Different game. That’s like using Diablo 1 as a template for Diablo 2 and 3.
Seems like people think mesmer is only a berserker glass cannon class. Mantras are really good if you go more hybrid. Anyone can chain together videos of you owning people and edit the ones out where you get rolled over and over and over because you’re too squishy or someone dodged that greatsword predictable sequence.
One way they could get rid of this problem is just make it as easy to level to 80 in pvp as it is in pve. This would penalize the exploiters for investing all that time exploiting the past few months. Obviously the best way is to just remove all exploited rank acquired, but for some reason, MMOs don’t ever take this approach (upset a few people to please the masses)
I would like to have a shark/phoenix finisher too, with 20 slot bags, with cool armor skins, but currently the only people who have these exploited.
I don’t think it’s fair that some people knew about rank farming months ago and have got 20 levels out of it, then I find out about it this week and it is getting nerfed. How about take away the ranks people illegitimately farmed? Why can’t they do that? That seems like the logical solution. Having got to 38 the hard way and the fact that I actually seek out the gear skins, it is NOT FAIR AT ALL that people have such a leg up. There is no way I can ever catch up to them—the only sound solution is to remove all illegitimately acquired rank. Surely they have the technology to do this on their end…
Well that site says that Frozen items can be made from Deer recipes…and I’ve wasted so much glory not getting any frozen items from chests or mystic forging.
The website is ok but sometimes for no reason the recipe gets swapped from a crystal to an orb meaning you waste like 10 tries on something only to find that for that particular item, you need to use an orb to get the same prefix that is a crystal for other weapons. This happened with the Trident with the forest prefix—supposedly it should be a crystal (all other forest recipes are) but this one I got on a first try from an orb.
With the Wolf rank stuff, I got a “Gladius” while working on my Norn Sword which isn’t even supposed to come from this (no prefix or anything or hints that I should be trying to go for that…).
This is just a bit frustrating considering all the other areas of the game are pretty mapped out and this is uncharted and disorganized (and I’m a casual guy who just focuses on pvp and all of a sudden have some time to play this summer/fall and wanted to make my character look like a rank 36… instead of my salmon robes ;P)
I’ll just leave this here.
http://www.guildwars2guru.com/topic/55030-pvp-mystic-forge-recipes/
This is over a year old, unfortunately. It isn’t accurate. If you try crafting Frozen items with deer tokens you will be wasting all your glory because you won’t ever get them. Some items are double named in the locker (same name different item), and some items apparently are of rare quality but aren’t labeled with the appropriate prefix. The website that shows pvp rewards is for armor only—there is no version for weapons—yes the listed website gives a general guide, but for specific pieces, there is no guide and the general guide is dated by 1 year (and things have changed and been renamed since).
Woodenpotatoes youtube—I’ve watched it (wish it wasn’t 25 min…) and didn’t learn anything I didn’t already know from messing around with the forge based on the general guide. Again, there is no webpage out there that lists item name = recipe for weapons.
As far as I know it is random, it depends on the rank token you put in… So the recipe is always the same, and you may get something from the rank you put in or below.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/PvP_reward
And the recipe is in the wiki as well: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mystic_Forge#Structured_PvP
The PvP_reward wiki link is to the armor, and I’m looking for something that does the same thing with the weapons.
For example: arcane dust + arcane orb/crystal/sliver + [rank token] + [weapon] = [specific weapon skin]
where [specific weapon skin] = {destroyer torch, Sylvari pistol, peacemaker sword, etc.}
It looks like pvpers haven’t filled out the wiki because no one collects the gear???
Bump because no one answered.
Hello, I am looking for a guide that says combine x,y,z,t and you get p.
I am not looking for a generic guide (ie orbs give you peacemaker weapons—I can google and found those pages, which are crap). The current pvp locker isn’t set up that way that I am looking for something where I can type in a name and it will spit out a recipe. Sort of like that exists for the pvp armor sets—you have specific pages for each item set.
Does this exist? Thanks.
I have been playing around with the 30 domination trait chaotic interruption and am disappointed. If I actually do interrupt (it says interrupt) someone more than once in a short period of time, they do not get the immobilize. Furthermore, I tried it with Imbued Diversion and they all do not get the immobilize. With the latter I’m pretty sure I’m interrupting, but of course there could be factors like stability/immunity or just a limit on the skill’s usefulness.
Again, it seems to not be procing the immoblize if you use to interrupt multiple times within some time period. I’m guessing it has an internal 15 sec cd just like the Dueling Furious Interruption trait. Correct me if wrong?
Look at this roster. HOW THE HELL does this setup get made? May as well have been 1v5.
Second, how do you get rid of this popup in the upper left? I checked my items in pvp and pve…none can change stats…

Posting error log in this thread. Posted in other crash thread too.
Mine crashed 3x in the last two days. The last two times were just when I just finished logging in. I get to the character select screen, select my toon, the loading screen pops up, and then crash after I think it loads whatever it was going to load.
I’ve let it do the scan about 3x also. Doing the scan doesn’t help nor does not doing the scan help.
Hopefully this is addressed soon. Too bad today is the last day of my weekend.
I’ll have to log in to check this out. I haven’t been on since patch…maybe they got rid of the ridiculous engineer explosions. Not sure why explosions were there because nothing about my class has gunpowder.
I posted an in-depth bug report on the Bug forums that I want yall to be aware of. Please see it:
